Schnitzelhaus Alte Münz in Heidelberg

The Münz is always worth a visit. The rooms are rather small but very cozy, so it's best to call and make a reservation in case of bad weather.

Deep-fried schnitzel? It's more like a cafeteria schnitzel. It's pressed and completely covered in greasy breading. The sauce, unfortunately, is from a bucket, and the mushrooms aren't fresh either. At that price, I expect a different quality.

We were here today with 27 people. The food was excellent. The restaurant is located a bit outside the old town, but right on the Neckar River. A very nice atmosphere!

Unfortunately, we didn't have a good experience at this restaurant. I had foreign guests visiting, whom I invited to dinner to show them typical German food. I chose the Schnitzelhaus for this. The waitress was friendly at first, but then a series of events began that could quickly ruin the visit. We sat inside and asked for an English menu for the guests. The waitress then said there was only one, and the prices on it weren't up to date. We should therefore look at the German menu. In such a touristy place, I find it incomprehensible that there are no up-to-date English menus, and only one! The waitress said she would be there in a minute to take our order. In fact, we waited for almost 20 minutes before I complained. The restaurant was almost empty; there were maybe five tables occupied outside. The guests were hungry, but also pressed for time, as we wanted to visit Heidelberg Castle before taking the train back to their hotel that evening. Only then did the manager arrive and make an effort to take our order. However, my complaint was ignored and not taken seriously. Then the guests wanted Diet Coke, which wasn't available, only Coke Zero. Okay. But on a hot summer day with almost 30 degrees Celsius, the guests wanted a glass with ice cubes, which wasn't available either. How could that be? We ordered another bottle of water. In the end, there was a nasty surprise: €8.40 for a glass bottle of still water with no brand, no label, apparently just filled with tap water. We felt like this was a rip-off, especially because I couldn't find that price on the drinks menu. Then the food arrived. The salads were smaller than before, and the sauce wasn't to my taste, but that's a matter of taste. The schnitzel was okay, but nothing special. The three of us only got a shared bowl of fries. That might be okay for a family, but with guests, it's uncomfortable. Everyone should really have their own portion. So we had to be considerate; one didn't want to take too much, the other preferred to go without, which was very unpleasant. Things got particularly unpleasant when the waitress had a nervous breakdown in the middle of the restaurant. She was furious and even threw cutlery on the table. I was ashamed and thought it was a mistake to bring my guests there. At least paying was quick, and now you can also pay by card, which should be a given these days with digitalization. It's a shame. I used to really appreciate the Schnitzelhaus with its large selection of over 100 schnitzel variations. But after this experience, I won't go there again.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it, very disappointing. Considering it's a schnitzel restaurant, the schnitzels aren't good at all! Whether breaded or plain, our schnitzels were all overcooked. Some of them were burnt and rubbery on the edges. I can do much better at home. The tomato sauce was very spicy and, for me, didn't fit the Italian schnitzel theme. Here, you can tell the schnitzels are simply prepared incorrectly. It's a real shame; we won't be going there again. The staff was friendly but rather inattentive. When ordering, they didn't communicate changes to the kitchen. The ambiance would be nice if the people from the buses weren't constantly interrupting your meal.

Tried the Jägerschnitzel (004). It was delicious and the portion is big for 1 person.

It's a matter of expectations. I was looking forward to a "good, home-style schnitzel"! And what I got was a good, home-style schnitzel! But also a hearty, tomboyish host who strikes the right tone for every guest, and a young waitress who does her best to provide excellent service, even on the terrace. She always has a kind word for the guests, and you feel like you came as a guest and left as a friend! Thank you for that, it was great with you!

Very nice place. We were a group of 30 and the owner and staff outdid themselves for us to have a good time. Schnitzels were very tasty and generous portions. Very friendly welcome.

We found it as a suggestion from ChatGpt, we went without a reservation at dinner time and we had immediate access, it is a small restaurant but with a warm atmosphere, the menu is extensive but simple (very adequate), the background music is perfectly livened up without causing too much noise, the service was amazing! The lady who served us did her best to do it exceptionally, she even said she didn't speak much English and yet she did her best, she offered us an English menu (which IS NOT updated in prices) so we could understand the dishes but in the end it wasn't that necessary because of the ease of understanding regarding the meals, I would definitely go again!! Leave a tip if the service was as good as mine!!

Great variety of schnitzel. Wife has been trying the jagersnitzel all week and this has had the best!! Tried the pumpkin and it was awesome. Daughter's had the Herb and Cream. All were delicious and each had it's own unique flavors.

Ich verstehe diese Bewertungen nicht. Wir waren jetzt im Mai 25 im Schnitzelhaus und waren mächtig enttäuscht. Bei einem Preis von 27 Euro für das angeblich beste Schnitzel im Haus, wurden wir eines besseren belehrt. Wir nahmen einen Klassiker (Paprikaschnitzel). Die Soße war aus dem Eimer und die Schnitzel wurden in der Fritteuse gebacken, welche dadurch nach Pommes geschmeckt haben. Dies bei solch einem Preis ist einfach unverschämt. Weiterhin hatten wir Cola Zero für 4,60 Euro bestellt. Wir bekamen alles, nur keine Cola Zero. Eigentlich kann man bei einem Schnitzel nicht so viel falsch machen, um eine vernünftige Qualität zu bekommen. Hier ist dies aber durchaus machbar. Der Beilagensalat war sehr Essig lastig, was sich bei uns alles zusammenziehen ließ . Die Kritik ist objektiv, da ich selber gelernter Koch bin. Leider viel mein Urteil nicht besser aus. Wir hatten uns auf gute Qualität gefreut…. leider wurden wir enttäuscht!

The food was good and the view is of course good it is near the Alte Brüche, Heidelberg. They serve Schnitzel also with Puta. For parking, you can park in nearby Parkhaus.

We visited the Schnitzelhaus Alte Münz on May 3rd (Saturday) after a city tour with our relatives from Sweden – and what can we say: It was simply fantastic! Our wishes were taken into account right from the reservation, and a table was reserved for us outside. It was particularly thoughtful that upon arrival, they informed us that if the forecasted storm came, a table would already be ready for us inside. It couldn't be better! We were five adults and four children – and both the chef and the entire team, especially our waitress Nathalie, were extremely friendly, accommodating, and welcoming. Nathalie's professional and personable manner made us feel completely at home. And the food? Absolutely fantastic! The schnitzels were huge, crispy, and juicy – ​​simply a dream. There was something for every taste, and the price-performance ratio is absolutely fair. We highly recommend the Schnitzelhaus Alte Münz. A perfect end to our day in Heidelberg. The prices are still reasonable for Heidelberg. They offer schnitzel with various sauces. Fries and a small salad are served with it. Unfortunately, we didn't like the schnitzel, as it tasted and smelled strongly of pork, which is probably an indication that it was meat from older boars. The fries were also unfortunately nothing special. At first, the service staff were quite annoyed and seemed overwhelmed, but as time went on, they became friendly. We won't be going there again due to the (inferior) quality of the meat.

Used to be fantastic with an great selection of tasty schnitzel. Lately however I was only offered a small section if their original menu. And portion sizes became substantially smaller while prices got higher... Disappointing

We went in and straight out again. The atmosphere was like an old, run-down pub. Lots of flies! We didn't eat there, so we can't comment on that.

After the unpleasant lady at the cash register, I encountered worse on the phone. I will not be buying cake from here again. 😕

A typical old town restaurant with a beautiful view of the Neckar River. The outdoor area is quite pleasant with a simple beer garden atmosphere. The owner was a bit overwhelmed with serving our group. The value for money is quite OK.

We ended up here after searching the internet for a schnitzel dish. After waiting for 10 minutes, and having someone walk right past us several times, we were told that ordering food wasn't possible at the moment because it was very busy and the kitchen was taking a break. Strange...but okay. We then waited a bit until we could order after asking. BUT...the disaster continued. Instead of the advertised 100+ schnitzel dishes, there was a menu with—I think there were 17—dishes. The ones we had previously selected online weren't available. None of the three employees who stopped by to see us offered it either. Okay...so, I selected a pepper cream schnitzel. I would have also liked braised onions. These were available on the mini menu. But not in addition to my pepper cream schnitzel. When I asked what the problem was, they said it was their policy and that there was a new chef and a trainee in the kitchen today. That would be too much. At that moment, I felt like getting up. After about 45 minutes, the schnitzel, fries, and salad arrived. The salad was okay, except for the carrots, which were practically pureed instead of grated. The fries were terrible. They tasted of grease and were completely unsalted. The schnitzel itself was okay. However, you had to search for the peppercorn sauce. There was so little that nothing ended up on the plate; it was all soaked into the breading of the schnitzel. Terrible atmosphere Heavy street with a bus stop where the engines were running almost the entire time. We also learned that the place isn't just for drinking. Guests who just wanted to enjoy a beer or something similar were asked to leave... We will definitely come back to Heidelberg, but we'll eat schnitzel somewhere else!!

While sightseeing in Heidelberg on the weekend, I visited with a local guide. As the name suggests, this is a schnitzel specialty store, and they have a huge menu! There are so many variations, from the classics to the slightly unusual ones, that I was having a hard time choosing. But that's also part of the fun. Although we visited with a large group, the staff were very friendly and helpful. There were some people who were not good at German or English, but I felt at ease because I could see photos of the food on Instagram and order by number. Of course, the beer was absolutely delicious, and it was a great way to end our sightseeing tour. This is a tourist-friendly store that you can easily stop by!

Loved this schnitzelhaus! Great ambiance in a little room (few tables, but lots of character), with extremely polite staff. The jägerschnitzel with mushroom gravy was one of the best things I tasted all week, and my companions loved the "Vienna-style" schnitzel (pork, though... not veal). And the beer. So good. We tried a pilsner & a dunkel (I think) and I was reminded that Germans had mastered bier long before my home existed. Crisp, light, and delicious.

I had a fantastic experience at Heidelberger Schnitzelhaus! The restaurant has a cozy and welcoming vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. Rustic restaurant with a huge selection of schnitzels. It would be difficult for us to decide. I finally decided on a Röhner Bauernschnitzel. It was super tasty and a decent portion. All schnitzel variants are also available with turkey or as a vegetarian version. We will definitely come back and try and continue through the menu. The service was also very friendly.
