Schatull in Gengenbach

Mit einer sehr starken, Geh und Sehbehinderung wurde darauf hingewiesen, das unten im Lokal die Plätze reserviert sind. Wir mussten eine sehr steile Treppe nach oben gehen. Oben ganz angenehm möbliert, aber Toiletten im Keller. Das wären zwei sehr steile Treppen gewesen. Das ; was wir bestellten war maßlos überteuertes Kantinenessen! Die panierten Champion waren klein zu stark paniert und knochenhart. Es war ein tiefgefrorenes Billig-Produkt Die dazu bestellten Wedges waren braune Pommes-frites somit ein stolzer Preis von 9,90 für ein paar Fritten und gleicher Preis für Kleine Kanonenkugeln. Salat und Gemüse dazu bestellt . Optisch gut, ohne Geschmack, Diese sogenannte Soße war im Töpfchen als Dip am Salat und über dem faden Gemüse . Als wir der Wirtin , auf die Frage , ob es gut war unsere Meinung zu diesem Essen freundlich sagten, kam keine Entschuldigung , Nur, dann solle man nichts frittiertes Essen bestellen. Wie bereits erwähnt Spitzenpreise und Kantinenniveau. Ganz sicher: Wir waren das erste und letzte mal dort

Unfortunately we chose the wrong restaurant in this beautiful place. The only fresh thing about the Vegetable Pastorale dish was the fried egg, everything else was ready-made, the vegetable tarte flambée was also a disappointment. Service couldn't keep up and incorrect orders were often brought. Really a shame.

Röschti (boss) way below the belt. You just can't offer it like that. Terrible. Liver dumpling soup. I have no idea how you can bring something like that to the table. A cut dumpling floats in a liquid that cannot be described in more detail. Paid a lot of money for very poor quality. The location is overall appealing. Seems very comfortable at first. When the rooms fill up it is very loud and the air soon becomes stale and stuffy. We are definitely not petty. But no one will see us here again, especially since the prices in no way do justice to the offer. Too expensive. It's sad what today's gastronomy delivers overall. Clear downward trend in quality and strict rip-off. ☹️👎

Mediocre food, if you don't speak German, they don't pay any attention to you and customers who arrive later eat much earlier, even though they understand you perfectly in English. According to them they do not accept cards, unethical

Good cooking. On the other hand, we received a cold welcome from the staff, we waited 1h30 to be served while other tables that arrived after us were served before us! And it seems that the national sport in Germany is the "breakdown" for card payment...

I have no idea how this restaurant got 4.7 stars. The only service person did what she could, but we waited forever. The white wine came with foam (?). The food was at the lowest canteen level. Ready-made sauces for the Maultaschen and the salad and not as described in the menu. Not even fresh chives, but dried ones. Sorry, that doesn't work at all. Only the space under the plane tree was nice. I can only advise against it.

Although the ambience under old trees is really cozy, the quality of the food is poor. Greasy, unseasoned, pre-prepared food (Spätzle and Maultaschen from the bag, hollandaise sauce from the package...), the fried potatoes clearly tasted of old, burnt fat (inedible). Although one waitress was friendly and always managed to smile, she was completely overwhelmed by the number of guests. We had to wait a long time before we were even served and over an hour before the food finally came. Unfortunately, in our opinion, completely unjustified good reviews. Too bad.

op zich een leuke binnenplaats, bediening werkte precies tegen haar zin. Verkeerd drinken gekregen, bier ipv spezzi ?? Zelf moeten vragen om ons eten te kunnen bestellen, ondertussen hadden andere tafels al eten. Eten was niet top. Sanitair ook niet proper.

Die Lage und das Ambiente sind sehr schön. Das war es dann aber auch schon. Die Qualität des Essens ist normaler Standard, nichts besonderes. Geworben wird mit diversen Gerichten mit frischen Pfifferlingen, schade nur dass die alle aus waren. Also haben wir einmal ein vegetarisches Rösti und ein Schweizer Rösti genommen. Beide waren etwas faad das Fleisch zu trocken. Was uns aber am meisten gestört hat war der Service. Nachdem wir Platz genommen hatten mussten wir ca. 30 Minuten warten bevor wir bestellen durften. Dann kamen die Getränke, dabei wurde dann ein wenig auf den Tisch verschüttet, beim servieren des Essens spritzte Soße auf den Tisch. Alles nicht schlimm wenn denn dann mal jemand den Tisch mal kurz ab wischen würde. Auch wurden die leeren Gläser beim bringen der neuen Getränke nicht weg geräumt. Als wir bezahlen wollten (was nur mit Bargeld geht) bekamen wir zwar sehr schnell die Rechnung, aber bis zum bezahlen selber dauerte es dann weitere 20 Minuten. Alles in allem eher enttäuschend.

Zunächst das Positive: Service flink und sehr freundlich, Essen immer ausgezeichnet, der romantische Innenhof ganz zauberhaft. Allerdings darf an sämtlichen Tischen geraucht werden, besonders die Tische an der Hauswand stehen aber dermaßen dicht nebeneinander, dass man quasi an einer langen Tafel sitzt und von Rauchern total eingenebelt wird. Die nette Chefin meinte zwar, man wäre ja im Freien, aber die Abstände sind einfach zu gering, man wird zwangsweise zum Mitraucher verdonnert. Da wir unser Essen ohne Zigarettengestank genießen wollen, werden wir so schnell nicht wieder hier einkehren. Schade.

The food and the ambience were very good. We've been there several times over the years, but we've never had such listless and not particularly friendly service! Too bad. The guests around us weren't exactly thrilled either and we all just looked at each other questioningly.

Lavorare d’estate con questo caldo non previsto in Germania , e accontentare tutti i turisti con un sorriso non è da tutti. La titolare di questo caratteristico posto che si trova in una piazzetta ( piazzetta che divide con altri due locali) ombreggiata dagli alberi, ti fa accomodare, ti mette a tuo agio cercando di parlarti in inglese/ spagnolo/ italiano, e poi si sincera che tu sia a tuo agio con un sorriso. È coadiuvata da una collaboratrice che sembra abbia i pattini a rotelle tanto si muove rapidamente tra i tavoli e quando arriva a portarti i piatti ecco che ti sorride. Il menu è strettamente in tedesco ma nel 2024 ci sono fior di app che ti aiutano nella scelta dei piatti, generosi nelle quantità e di una buona qualità con prezzi per me decisamente alla mano. Qualcuno ha scritto che il servizio è lento, ma d’altronde si è in vacanza, il tempo non ci corre dietro e aspettare con il sorriso ti fa solo del bene

Typical restaurant with native Germans and German food, everything is very good, the attention, food, service, the menu is all in German and English but well, you need a translator or Google lens, one of the waitresses spoke Spanish and the other a little bit. That makes it a little easier, average price, about €20 per person for a hearty dish and a drink

Located in an interior square, next to the Fountain of the Jesters, a quiet area. Friendly staff and very good food. Totally recommended.

Terrible service. We were a group of 7 people who arrived to eat at 1:30 p.m. and they didn't bring us a plate of food until 3:15 p.m. A shame, they served the other tables that had arrived later and not because they were going to take out the 7 dishes at once, since they were doing it every 10 minutes at least. NOTHING RECOMMENDED

We were a group of 8 at the Schatull in Gengenbach and had an overall pleasant evening. The service was very nice and attentive, which definitely left a positive impression. We ordered salad, various tarte flambées and breaded schnitzel with fries. The drinks were ok, nothing exceptional but not bad either. The tarte flambée was delicious and the salad was fresh, although the fries were a bit too salty for our taste. Unfortunately, the atmosphere disappointed us a bit. Although the restaurant is located in the historic old town, you unfortunately don't have a clear view and don't get to see much of the charming surroundings. The spaces between the houses are rather narrow and offer little view of the old town. Overall it was a solid experience, but with room for improvement. I would rate the casket 3.7 out of 5 stars.

You only pay in cash and it is impossible to have a receipt to justify the expense. Place without air conditioning.

Super nice restaurant in the courtyard with a great outdoor area. Lots of shady spots and quiet seating area since you're not on the street. Food was very tasty and drinks were also super cool. The desserts are also recommended. The waitresses are friendly. However, payment is only possible in cash. Caution: There is a break between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. (no hot food ‼️), even if it says otherwise on Google.

Very busy place, especially with Spaniards. Correct food at an affordable price. Slow service, only two poor waitresses who go as fast as they can, one of them speaks Spanish.

The best restaurant to eat at and for me it is cheap. Typical German food with flavour, all good, and in quantity. The menu is in German but thanks to the Brazilian waitress who speaks a little Spanish we ate well and even though we arrived late and the restaurant was full, they served us with a smile and apologizing. It is paid in cash Menus in German Kitchen hours between 12 and 14, try to go early, they won't serve you

Pure German restaurant in the center of town. Nice decoration. You only find authentic customers. We ordered a beer and an ice tea. I don't give an opinion on food because we didn't order. They accepted card payment.

As a small family we went to the Schatull for dinner. The atmosphere, staff and food were very, very tasty. The dishes were all fresh and presented very attractively. The portion size was more than enough, everyone was full. The restaurant can only be recommended, we would be happy to come back.

Wir waren an einem Samstagnachmittag im Juli 2024 hier zum Mittagessen. Zwei Erwachsene und zwei Kinder. Die Bedienung war nett und kinderfreundlich. Wir bestellten und warteten dann hungrig auf unser Essen. Es wurde uns bald gebracht, nur leider fehlte ein Essen. Während meine Familie gegessen hat, musst ich dann nochmal ca. zehn Minuten auf mein Essen warten. Es wurde wohl vergessen. Das Essen ist okay, aber keine Sensation. Es wird viel mit Fertigprodukten gekocht und ist sehr fettig. Wir hatten danach alle Bauchweh, weil wir das nicht gewohnt sind. Mein Gericht bestand aus erwärmten Fertigmaultaschen mit Sauce Hollandaise aus der Packung und fettigem Bacon darüber. Zudem ist das Restaurant etwas schmuddelig. Vor allem die Toiletten, der Boden und die Treppe in den Keller sind alles andere als hygienisch. Auch draußen um unseren Tisch herum war der Boden dreckig. Die Location ist eigentlich sehr schön im Hinterhof gelegen, aber nicht sehr gepflegt. Wir machen hier in Zukunft einen großen Bogen drum herum.

Wow, that has diminished in the last few years... Service was anything but convincing, a hectic mess with moving chairs and seating people, my wife's food came wrong, so we ate separately because mine was already on the table. My steak only arrived lukewarm anyway. Prices increased significantly, stein with beer was anything but clean. And the food was also rather mediocre, so I claim I could do it better at home. Sorry, but I don't have to go out to eat. No card payment

Leuke authentieke plek. Zeer goed prijs kwaliteitverhouding. De schnitzel wordt ter plekke geklopt, dat is best wel uniek! Zeker een aanrader!!!

Ambience very rustic, service was okay. Went here because of the positive reviews, but the food probably consisted mostly of ready-made products... at least that's how it tasted. Nothing special, you can cook it yourself at home and maybe even better.

Catastrofaal. 2 personen voor de bediening, die vooral vanuit het jonge meisje onvriendelijk en onprofessioneel was. We bestelden 5 gerechten met 4 maal slaatje erbij als side-dish. De slaatjes kwamen zeer vlug op tafel, we dachten dat het eten er dan ook al aankwam, tevergeefs. Na 30 minuten dachten we dat ze ons of wij hen verkeerd verstaan hadden, misschien was het slaatje een voorgerecht. Maar niks was minder waar, na een uurtje brachten ze ons eten, althans voor 4 van ons, de 5e heeft nog een kwartier mogen wachten. De steaks waren zeer lekker en mals, daarmee is alles wat positief was gezegd. Ook aan andere tafels werd geklaagd, mensen gingen naar binnen omdat soms lang niemand van de bediening te zien was. Naast ons zat een koppel, waarvan de man zijn eten meer dan een half uur later dan zijn vrouw kreeg. Toen hij daarover een opmerking maakte, was het antwoord dat er maar 1 persoon in de keuken stond. Kan zijn dat er personeelstekort is, maar dan neem minder klanten aan, en zeker nog niet eens een tafel van 10-12 personen die ongereserveerd langskwam. Heb die avond geen tevreden klanten gezien, een verontschuldiging kwam er niet. Ps: het is enkel in cash betalen.

Catastrophic. 2 people for the service, which was unfriendly and unprofessional, especially from the young girl. We ordered 5 dishes with 4 salads as a side dish. The salads arrived on the table very quickly, we thought the food was already arriving, but to no avail. After 30 minutes we thought they had misheard us or we had misheard them, maybe the salad was a starter. But nothing could be further from the truth, after an hour they brought our food, at least for 4 of us, the 5th had to wait another fifteen minutes. The steaks were very tasty and tender, that's all that was positive. Complaints were also made at other tables, people went in because sometimes no one from the service was visible for a long time. Next to us was a couple, the husband of whom received his food more than half an hour later than his wife. When he made a comment about this, the response was that there was only 1 person in the kitchen. There may be a staff shortage, but then he accepts fewer customers, and certainly not even a table of 10-12 people who came by unreserved. Hopefully we were lucky at that moment due to various circumstances, but when I read the most recent reviews, it is exactly normal there.

The food is delicious. The service is catastrophic. Some of the staff are very unmotivated. The order was still partially forgotten. The ambience is nice and calm. Only cash payment possible! We are still waiting today for the staff to come to settle the accounts 😂

Highly recommended. You could pay only in cash. Typical German food: delicious, abundant and at an excellent price. The waiter's attention was excellent. Very very kind. We tipped him more because he deserved it. The restaurant is in an internal courtyard shared with other restaurants. We will return without a doubt!

Food was excellent BUT one of the waitress was pretty rude, handed us our cutlery into our hands only after asking for it despite having appetizers for 10mn + our food, which was one of their specialty, took about 45mn to arrive. But again, the food was Excellent !

The atmosphere in the courtyard is very nice. Unfortunately, the rump steak (salad with strips of rump steak) was tough, and we had to wait almost an hour for the food even though there was hardly anything going on. But as compensation there was an espresso.

Does what it promises. Food very good, asparagus season got off to a good start. Get a nice seat without a reservation. :)

The food (rösti), bone dry, tasted like frozen food, advertised was rösti with bacon, inside it were pieces of meat sausage..., on top of that it was lukewarm and for a great price, never again, not recommended..!!!

I'm on vacation in Gengenbach and spontaneously wanted to eat in the beer garden. Even though I didn't make a reservation in these summer temperatures, I got a spot. I ate very tasty 😋 and the price was right too. I would be happy to recommend it.

A very authentic atmosphere. The food was super tasty, the portions were filling. The staff (they weren't unfriendly, they seemed a bit stressed) should tighten up their friendliness a bit, otherwise it was a great visit. Something else for 2 adults and 2 children with ice cream for the kids and espresso for us about 80 euros with the good food, thumbs up. We will definitely be guests again.

You'll have a fun time working out what "Schatull" means and the restaurant is as funny and fun a place as its name implies! There is an upstairs and a downstairs, you will probably need to make a reservation, your hosts will make you giggle, your neighbouring companions probably having an uproarious time - join in. The food will make you want to come back again. The place will stay in your memory for quite some time.

Verbindung zum Grasbahnrennen in Berghaupten kommen wir seit über 20 Jahren jedes Jahr in die Schatull und fühlen uns sehr wohl in gemütlicher Atmosphäre und tollem Essen :-) Service und Bedienungen immer freundlich und hilfsbereit 👍🏻
