Martinsteinhiesli in Gengenbach

We were at the Martinsteinhiesle for the first time yesterday. We were very impressed and satisfied with the food; we've never had such good rump steak and cheese spaetzle before. The atmosphere and the very friendly service (the manager) also contributed to the experience. I can only recommend it.

We were very satisfied with our food and the ambiance is very nice - it's 6 km from Gengenbach and you can even leave the car behind.

This is a hidden gem. Quite remote in the hills, modest, but very popular. Expect to have to wait a little for a table. But definitely worth it. Lovely people and delicious simple food.

We always loved coming here. Unfortunately, things are getting worse and worse. Dogs are no longer allowed, and the recorded message already announces that all tables are fully booked for the rest of the week. Apparently, they no longer rely on hospitable and service-oriented behavior, as they're always fully booked anyway. The way they treat guests is very arrogant. We came with a voucher that had no (!) date printed on it. Neither an issue date nor an expiration date. Unfortunately, it was rejected on the grounds that it was 11 years old. A voucher without an issue or expiration date cannot simply be rejected. The restaurant would have to prove that the three-year limitation period has expired – if they can't do that, the voucher is still redeemable. No proof was provided. We would certainly have been understanding if a date had been provided. The stubborn insistence on a (false) opinion and the associated loss of regular customers is apparently more valuable to the restaurant than the value of a €20 voucher.

A very beautiful place on the edge of the Black Forest. First of all, you should reserve in advance. In winter, it's small and cozy. In summer, you can sit outside and enjoy the view. The food is good and the price isn't cheap. But the price/performance ratio, as well as the taste and portion size, is good.

We drove up from Gengenbach; there are a few parking spaces, but you can also hike up. The location is beautifully quiet in the countryside. A rustic dining room, and the terrace is also lovely, where you can sit together with others at large tables—no problem for me. The dishes were delicious; I definitely recommend it. I would visit Hiesli again if I had the chance.

Quaint restaurant in beautiful surroundings. Four of us had lunch here yesterday, in the beer garden. E.g. rump steak, perfect! Cooked to perfection, well seasoned. Burger, a little bit dry, but that's just a matter of taste. Friendly service. Highly recommended, we'll be back!

The house is incredibly cute, like a picture-perfect house from the outside and just as cozy and inviting inside. You immediately feel at home, surrounded by the warm atmosphere of a typical Black Forest house. The food is simply fantastic - from hearty snack plates to hearty dishes to delicious regional specialties that will make your mouth water. Every bite is a delight! And the service – wow! Simply warm and attentive without seeming intrusive. The location is simply fantastic - surrounded by green hills and idyllic forests that allow you to relax and forget everyday life. You can sit wonderfully outside or in the living room, enjoy the view of nature or take in the rustic charm of the wooden interior from inside, which radiates a pleasant warmth. In short: If you are looking for authentic Black Forest hospitality, you have come to the right place! A place that you will want to visit again and again - and that will definitely remain in your memory!

We love the Martinsteinhiesli and always enjoy coming back. The rump steak with onions, herb butter, and fried potatoes is amazing. The salad is super delicious. In winter, they always have delicious venison with spaetzle, and the Maultaschen (ravioli) are also among the best we've ever eaten (along with our own :P). I think it's a shame that so many people write bad reviews here because their dogs aren't allowed in. That doesn't substantiate any assessment of the restaurant's quality.

The historic Black Forest house near Gengenbach is definitely worth a trip. A narrow road leads the last km up to "Hiesli". The area offers enough space for cars and two-wheelers. The drive up will be too narrow for campers. What the kitchen offers is homemade, traditional and delicious! The area is the starting point for hikes, tours or a relaxing time. Nature plays the main role here! For the little ones, in addition to running around in freedom, there are animals nearby and a playground!

Le restaurant est perché sur une petite colline à l'extérieur du village, cela peut s'avérer périlleux de s'y rendre mais ça en vaut largement le détour. Le personnel est toujours très accueillant, pensez à réserver a l'avance (le restaurant est souvent plein). Le restaurant propose des plats typiques et traditionnels du sud ouest de l'Allemagne, les assiettes sont toujours très bien remplies ! Je recommande vivement de faire un détour pour découvrir cet établissement !

I've been coming here since 2009 when I'm in the area and can only say that the quality and quantity of the food is consistently very good is. So please keep it up. P.S. Went to eat at Martinsteinhisli during a visit to the Black Forest. It was super tasty. Service was very friendly. Very nice location.We will definitely come back.

Unfortunately it rained in July, because after the delicious meal you can still walk with a beautiful view, which we also enjoyed in November!! Simply enjoy it with your family 😀

We love stopping at the Martinsteinhisli inn! The excellent food, the super nice and friendly service and the great hosts make every visit a special experience. The rustic, cozy atmosphere invites you to linger and makes us want to return again and again. Highly Recommended!

Unfortunately I can't say much because they were on vacation. Large terrace and a small playground. A large part of the TERRACE is covered and parasols can be set up outside. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet marked. Overall it looked very comfortable.

A super great cozy atmosphere, great service and super delicious food

In addition to the great view and surroundings, we were particularly pleased with the friendly service and the surprisingly large selection of vegetarian dishes. These were super tasty too!

The price-performance ratio is consistent. So far my rump steak has always been first class. The ribeye last time wasn't good or was it the sauce, which unfortunately wasn't homemade and masked the taste of the meat. A pity.

Telefonische Reser wird empfohlen. AB wird nicht abgehört. 😞. Restaurant ist gut besucht, Rehbraten mit Spätzle von der Tageskarte war gut. Die letzte Scheibe leider trocken. Bedienung nett. Toiletten sauber.

Das Martinsteinhiesle ist innen schön mit Holz verkleidet, das Personal ist sehr freundlich, und Essen kann man auch sehr gut. Wir können dies nur weiterempfehlen.

Im Martinsteinhiesli weiß man, was man kriegt. Seit Jahrzehnten unvergleichlicher Geschmack. Schnitzel mit knusprigen Pommes und einem kleinen gemischten Salat (der Klassiker) besticht für die einen, für die andern ist der Favorit, ein Burger, ein klassisch badisches Vesperbrett oder das allseits beliebte Rumpsteak! Der Service ist unkonpliziert, schnell, gewissenhaft & höflich! Das Ambiente uhrig & familiär.

Leider wird einem als Hunebesitzer in dieser Jahreszeit komplett die Möglichkeit genommen, das Lokas zu besuchen. Es wird zwar angegeben, dass Hunde innerhalb des Lokals nicht zugelassen sind, jedoch es Außerhalb kein Problem darstellt. Allerdings findet in dieser Jahreszeit keinerlei Bewirtung im Freien statt. Also hat man Pech gehabt.

Hervorragendes Essen. Wir hatten die Schnitzel mit Pommes. Sehr köstlich. Aber: Schnitzel mit Pommes 13.50 Euro 2 Schnitzel mit Pommes 15.50 Euro Wir dachten uns, komm, wir nehmen 3 Schnitzel mit Pommes. Bekamen wir auch. Aber auf der Rechnung war dann 9.50 Euro gestanden für das separate 3. Schnitzel. Das passte dann irgendwie nicht.

Gorgeous location overlooking hills full of deer, the drive alone is worth it (keep in mind the road is a bit narrow). First of all, make a reservation. We’re not sure how - but perhaps try a phone call? We stumbled upon this gem via Google Maps reviews, just like you! Fortunately, we were afforded generous hospitality and were seated right away even as the restaurant was quickly filling! Now for the food…. Just amazing, and such a great experience. The fresh beans in the salad. The sautéed onions with the bratwurst. The decadent cheese sauce with homemade kasespatzle. So German, so good!! Love from Texas, USA 🥰
