Rüen Thai - Khao San 58 in München

I placed an order with Rüen Thai via Wolt at 5:32 PM. The delivery time was stated as 6:13 PM. The order finally arrived cold at 6:51 PM, probably because the courier had problems with another delivery along the way and, according to the app's tracking, was stuck there for about 15 minutes. This seems to be a widespread problem. The food was also more bad than good; for a dish costing €23, it's unacceptable. The difference between the photos in the app and the actual delivered product is striking! I wouldn't order something like that again and would definitely find a different delivery service.

Very good food, relatively inexpensive, and a nice atmosphere. I can recommend it without hesitation.

UPDATE June/October 2025 Still fantastic cuisine, very attentive service in a beautiful setting! UPDATE October 2024 This restaurant could be reason enough to relocate to Munich. The food is fantastic! We enjoyed the excellent avocado salad as a starter, and for the main course, the duck (original red curry with Thai basil) – ordered medium spicy – ​​was divine. October 2023 An interestingly decorated restaurant with very attentive service and excellent cuisine. Here, "Thai spicy" is truly authentic – and aromatically spicy at the same time. Unfortunately, the wine prices are a bit exorbitant (compared to other, quite expensive restaurants).

EXCELLENT A very nice restaurant with a modern interpretation of Thai cuisine. The dishes were beautifully presented, deliciously seasoned, and absolutely scrumptious. The spice level information was very helpful; what was labeled spicy was indeed spicy. Very friendly and efficient service and a lovely interior design. Reservations recommended.

I ordered there through Wolt. The soup was already cold and very small for the price (over €10), and there was hardly any meat or chicken in it. The prawn crackers were simply thrown into the Wolt bag and weren't even wrapped. A very unpleasant experience.

Very authentic Thai food and much higher quality than all other Thai restaurants in Munich (at a similar level as AIMY and Bistro Chang). We only had take-out food and even though we only ate it at home it was still very good. Will definitely come again to dine in.

I've been here twice now, and both visits were a complete success! The Pad Thai was delicious every time, freshly prepared, perfectly seasoned, and simply authentic. You can tell that they use high-quality ingredients and put a lot of attention into the details. The service is also really pleasant: friendly, attentive, but not intrusive. The ambiance is also a real highlight; you immediately feel at home. It's especially atmospheric in the evenings.

The food was absolutely delicious, and everyone of us was super full and happy. Both the portion and the taste were amazing! We also had cocktails, and they were also amazing! Definitely recommend it! + great service!

Food was delicious but very spicy, altought I love spicy but this was too much even for me and that was 1 out of 3 on the scale. Service was kind but maybe a little bit confused. The restaurant is beautiful inside but without any deception, I paid well for all of the above.

The food was not that nice ever. And now their service has also become extremely bad! First of all, it takes forever for food to arrive even for Lunch menu! The whole idea of lunch menu is that it should be quick because people need to go work after that. And then an unimaginable thing happened today. When I asked my leftover food to be packed, the waiter made a face and rolled his eyes at me! Why would you be so unfriendly to a customer and how can you expect them to ever come again if you treat them like this!

A very nice, small Thai restaurant with excellent service. Fantastic food and cocktails! Very cozy and without the usual Asian-Buddha folklore. Cool music invites you to linger. Can be booked via Open Table. Highly recommended!

Everything was freshly prepared, lovingly presented, and simply delicious – just the right balance of spice, sweetness, and freshness. The attentive service deserves special mention: friendly, prompt, and competent. Even special requests were fulfilled without hesitation. The ambiance is atmospheric and authentic, decorated with great attention to detail – you almost feel like you're in Thailand itself. The food was okay for me, but not for my wife (who is Thai). We arrived at 5:30 p.m., and the receptionist greeted us with rubber gloves on. It wasn't a good feeling.

Ordered two Pad Thai chicken dishes – drenched in soy sauce, over-seasoned, and inedible. Absolutely disappointing for €43 including delivery. Reviews completely misleading. Poor value for money. Unfortunately, never again.

The food was okay/good. The service was very poor. We waited a long time for menus and drinks. Even during our meal, we had to get attention several times. Each of us tipped €5 (4 people in total), and no one was thanked. In the end, we were practically thrown out, even though drinks were offered and brought to us 5 minutes before closing time. The Rüen Thai restaurant was once, in my opinion, the best Thai restaurant in Munich. After changing owners several times, this restaurant, now called Khao San 58, is only a shadow of its former self.

The food is extremely delicious, as are the cocktails. The portions are quite large considering the price. The ambiance is very nice and relaxing, and the service is fast and very friendly. I have no complaints, i would gladly come back again. All recommendations! ☺️

Wir hatten das Silvestermenü. Dieses war für 95,5 Euro wirklich gut. Vier Gänge, die definitiv satt gemacht haben und einige Highlights hatten. Wenn man einzeln bestellt sollte man jedoch ca. 25 Euro pro Gericht einplanen. Der Service war sehr nett.

Food was nice and they do have vegetarian options too. Slightly on pricey side though. Also even after checking multiple times my vegetarian Tom yum soup had shrimp in it. My husband it allergic to shrimp so this was just very very bad.

I've been here for lunch a few times now. It always tasted very good, especially the Thai red or green curry with duck or chicken. Price-wise still absolutely OOK. The dishes are fresh and beautifully presented. There is always rice on the side. Service is very courteous and quick. The only drawback would be that it is a bit dark in the rooms. Otherwise I'll come back for lunch or sometimes in the evening :-)

Essen wie immer sehr lecker, leider war nur dieses Mal das Surf und Turf nicht so toll, da das Steak Medium bestellt wurde, aber durch ankam. Zudem waren ab ca. 22:00 nur noch wenige Gäste im Restaurant, wodurch die Servicekräfte uns unmissverständlich zum baldigen Gehen und Abkassieren aufgefordert hatten, obwohl das Restaurant eigentlich bis 24:00 geöffnet hatte. Dadurch wurde die Stimmung etwas getrübt, da unser Tisch erst auf 21:00 Uhr reserviert war. Schade!

The food was good, although no longer as sophisticatedly prepared as it used to be when it was still Rüen Thai. The ambience left a lot to be desired. Modern cold furniture, kitschy Thailand graffiti on the wall and very annoying, monotonous and way too loud club music. I wanted to eat and not go dancing, so what's with this music with the penetrating beat for lunch? This has nothing to do with Thailand, just as it has nothing to do with a pleasant atmosphere in which to dine there. I don't expect something like that from a restaurant in this price category. Unfortunately, the former Rüen Thai, now Khao San, is no longer recommended

A very nice restaurant on the Schwanthalerhöhe, the food is really highly recommended and very good. The waiter was a little confused and came several times and always asked the same thing. Otherwise very friendly and also good cocktails.

Our visit here exceeded our expectations, it tasted incredibly delicious and authentic! The Pad Thai, green curry and soups were outstanding!! The ambience is also great. One of the best addresses in Germany!

Essen und Atmosphäre sind einfach toll :) Auch das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis ist ausgezeichnet, wir haben in München schon deutlich teurer und dafür schlechter Thailändisch gegessen. Auch der Service war sehr nett und es gab keine Wartezeiten. Klare Empfehlung, wir kommen gern bald wieder!

A very nice restaurant with perfect service!

I went to this restaurant for dinner and was very pleased by the amazing service, delicious food and pretty location, which fits to both a romantic dinner but also to a lunch with friends. The restaurant personnel was very friendly and portions were quite big. We tried both meat (duck) and fish (cod) dishes, all very good. I can definetly reccomend this place

We had four different dishes and each was wonderful. The starters and desserts were also a heavenly delight. However, the prices are very high. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the service is top!

The ambience is unique and really detailed. Looks even better in real life than in pictures. The service was also very nice and the glasses the drinks were in looked very fancy. I had a Pad Thai and I have to admit it tasted like any other restaurant. My fried shrimp tasted fishy (but I think that's just how they taste). The plum sauce is to die for. If I go to this restaurant I would rather eat the exceptional dishes. The other dishes like satay skewers etc. tasted pretty normal, so not exceptionally better than in other Asian restaurants, except that you get a small flame bowl (Looks cool but doesn't change the taste). If you don't like coriander, you should mention that beforehand.

Unser erster Besuch bei einem Termin in München. Tolle umfangreiche Karte, jedoch hochpreisig. Kann diesen ersten Eindruck aber nur schwer halten. Leider einiges sehr fad gewürzt und ausgetrocknet. Luft nach oben. Die Präsentation der Spiesen ist aber TOP.

Very tasty Asian Negroni, excellent wine list, good food and top service. We had spring rolls, wontons, duck and salmon in coconut sauce both with 1 chilli rating. It was very flavorful. :) Recommended!

Das Restaurant bietet wirklich leckeres Essen und ein sehr schönes Ambiente. Ich habe das Pad Thai und andere Gerichten probiert und es hat mir gut geschmeckt, auch wenn es etwas anders war, als ich es erwartet hatte. Die Portionen waren für den Preis leider ein wenig klein.

Das Essen war gut, aber nicht überdurchschnittlich. Grosser Punktabzug für fehlende Terrasse bei einem Sommerabend mit 26 Grad, ohne Hinweis auf Open Table, oder der Webpage. Weine eher gehoben/zu teuer

The food was OK across the board and I can recommend Khao San in bad weather. BUT: We had made a reservation for our team dinner for 6 people, on an (exceptionally beautiful and warm evening at 26 degrees). There was no indication on the website or on Open Table that the facade was being renovated and there were no outside seats. Disappointing!
