Royal India in Aachen

We made a quick stop at Royal India in Aachen and ate there. The chicken biryani was very well seasoned, but a bit too spicy for our taste. Unfortunately, the accompanying yogurt was also spicy, so it didn't help to balance the heat. It was the first time we've ever had biryani served that spicy. A note on the menu would have been helpful; then we could have asked for it to be less spicy when ordering, which we will definitely do on our next visit. Nevertheless, we would gladly eat there again. The service was very friendly and attentive, and our order arrived very quickly. The mango lassi was very good; an alternative with plant-based milk, such as coconut milk, would have been perfect. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained.

This was our first time at Royal Indian, and in my opinion, it will also be our last. The food was okay, but the service was simply disappointing. The waiter was completely overwhelmed. We sat at an empty table for 50 minutes before anyone even took our order. After that, things continued with mixed-up dishes and utter chaos – even though, as guests, we should be able to expect a smooth experience. I also found it disturbing that all delivery orders were handled directly through the dining area. Constant running back and forth, pushing and shoving, and general commotion – that's not how a restaurant should be. I looked around and realized: It was just chaos. Thanks.

Worst i have ever get. We friends order food from them, they send the worst. The food was cold and its not tasty at all.

Scam deals.. I ordered from uber eats.. they had offer buy one get one chicken fried rice.. price normally 15 euro. So after it was delivered I opened one pack and saw there is only 2 piece small chicken. Then I called them and they said it’s just like this because this is offer menu and he said all these in English. After that suddenly he said he can’t talk with me unless I speak in deutsch. They he cut the call. As a prove I opened the second box and made a video to show what they are providing for this price. See how they are scamming people.

Food was close to the authentic Indian food. Not spicy at all. Fast service. Quiet place.

The biriyani was okay for the price, but it was more like fried rice than original biriyani. There were no side dishes of papadam and chutney, which should come along with any biriyani in general. The staff were so kind and they kept the restaurant clean and tidy.

Ordered food 5 hours ago. Still hasn't arrived. They're not answering the phone either: they've obviously received the advance payment. I'm filing a complaint now; it's not about the 30 euros, it's about the principle.

I do not recommend this place. The food quality is not good in my opinion.

I don't even know where to start. We ordered on a Sunday evening, and received the cold food after one and half hour. The vegetables of the Lamb Sabzi were uncooked. When looking closely, we recognized the frozen supermarket mix with broccoli, yellow and orange carrots. I cannot describe how unpleasant it was. The rice was overcooked and literally no salt. But this is not all, the delivery person was very rude, and even though I paid when I ordered, he told me his receipt didn't say whether I paid and he was not believing me. This is not about getting authentic or not authentic Indian food, this is about overpriced tasteless cuisine, that is not accepted within any standards. I remember them to do better food, not sure what happened to them since 2020.

We ordered at 8:15 p.m. on the website itself; the stated delivery time was 60 minutes. After about 90 minutes, we called and asked how the order was. An employee said he was sorry and that it would take about 10-12 minutes, so everything was fine. After another 38!!!! minutes, we called again and asked where the food was. The employee became extremely rude and asked why we were causing so much trouble. I said that we wanted compensation and then it became disrespectful, no joke. He said he didn't need customers like that and would call the driver now and get him back to cancel the order. I said that I wanted the food but that I would have just liked appropriate compensation and more understanding. He then hung up and after another 10 minutes the food arrived. The food was good as always, but unfortunately I won't eat there again because how can you treat customers like that 🤡 In the end, we waited over 2 hours for the food and received zero insight, zero understanding, and zero compensation. Just doesn't work

Absolutely unacceptable experience. I ordered Kadhai Paneer, and they delivered Kadhai Mutton instead. As a lifelong vegetarian, this was not just disappointing but deeply upsetting. What made it worse was their complete lack of accountability — no apology, no concern, just a casual “human error.” For anyone who understands how important dietary choices are, this level of carelessness is shocking. I later checked other reviews and noticed similar complaints, which clearly shows this isn’t a one-time mistake. This kind of negligence is simply not acceptable in the food business. I will never be ordering from this restaurant again, and I strongly advise others — especially vegetarians — to be extremely cautious.

The food arrived extremely quickly. The rice was excellent. The meal looked delicious. Unfortunately, the sauce tasted more like a lot of tomato paste for both of us. My chicken dish had three large pieces of chicken in it, which I found a bit too little. Besides, if I had eaten the dish blindfolded, I definitely wouldn't have been able to tell that it was Indian food. I wouldn't visit the restaurant again.

Delivery today via Lieferando. The food arrived at my house two hours later (one hour after the scheduled delivery date) ice-cold. Even after warming it up, it was practically inedible.

Ordered something spicy, got something sweet, delivery took over an hour, you can get better taste yourself.

Two of us went to the Royal India in Aachen and were seated right away. One dish was initially served incorrectly, but it was immediately noticed and replaced. Small mistakes like these happen, and the friendly service made it seem more likeable than annoying. The food arrived quickly, was truly delicious, and the price was absolutely fair. The coconut lassi, in particular, was something different and a nice change. All in all, a very pleasant visit – we'd be happy to return.

Tried placing an order through a delivery app, where I received a confirmation about the order. I then called the restaurant after waiting for more than hour, where without verifying the details of the order, they simply informed, they never got the order and hung up the call. After contacting them again, I gave an order number and he says, oh, it was stuck in the system. I didn't expect the level of unprofessionalism for their own customers. It was less of a frustrating and more of a disappointing experience. And then the order has been rejected.

We ordered food to home. The main dishes were very tasty. Order before you get hungry though. Delivery might take a bit of time, probably due to distance which is normal. I recommend this restaurant.

Really shocked to see 4 plus rating for this place. Personally I found the food below average, service slow and environment unpleasant and unclean. Toilet was stinky and the whole environment was just depressing. Most importantly food was quite tasteless.

I have been here only once and logically I have not tried much from their menu yet but what I did try was delicious (lamb with grated coconut). It is not the cheapest place on Earth but with such good food, it doesn't have to be.

We ordered two dishes from Royal India today and have to say we are very disappointed. The butter chicken and palak paneer we ordered seemed watered down and of poor quality. This was confirmed by other reviews, but unfortunately, we saw this too late. The food lacked the depth or complexity of flavor you would expect from Indian food. The portions were also very small and inadequate for the price we paid. We expected the food to be at least adequate for the price, but that wasn't the case. We were also disappointed that the dishes didn't look or taste like what we're used to at other Indian restaurants. The delivery was also disappointing, as the food was already cold and tough when it arrived. It seemed as if it had been prepared long before delivery and then reheated. Overall, this was a very poor experience, and I would not recommend this restaurant for delivery. There are much better options in the area that offer high-quality Indian food and better service. We will never order from them again and advise everyone not to!

Personally, I didn't like it at all. The naan was too burnt, the mango curry was way too sweet, and the Royal Biryani was dry and not flavorful. A real disappointment if you're used to Indian restaurants outside of Aachen.

To my vegan friends: They have a very good vegan selection here upon request :) I moved to Aachen 5 years ago and have been a customer here since day one. I've eaten at many Indian restaurants while traveling throughout Europe, and hands down, none compares to Royal India in terms of taste. Both when you eat in and when you get it delivered. The service is very relaxed and friendly, and the food doesn't take too long to arrive. The portions are easily enough, even for a glutton like me. My tip would be to eat in-house. It really looks great with the dishes, as you can see from other reviews :)

Highly recommended! The people who think they should give a star here after it was always good and then not once are really lost. Very good food and everything else is just right. Really spicy! In a very good relationship. The only thing that can be said is that the waiters could be a little more attentive/active. We haven't had anything to drink for a while and didn't manage to reach the waiter. We will come again :)

The food used to be very good but on our last visit it was inedible! We were told there was a new chef in the house! 4 meals, 3 of which, as I said, were inedible and the quality was poor! It's a shame, we've often eaten well here but that was our last visit there!

A new chef has recently been employed. The old chef's contract had probably expired. The food is disgusting since the new chef. It cannot be compared and the waiter showed absolutely no understanding for it. The family dinner will now take place somewhere else!

Best Indian food I've ever eaten. I ordered a tandoori dish. Super deliciously seasoned. The service is very nice and attentive. The music is pleasant, relaxing and soothing. Lots of vegetarian dishes. If we lived here, we would definitely come more often.

Really outrageous and terrible! Order very often, every Sunday but today it was really very disrespectful! Complete order delivered incorrectly, instead of duck, chicken also with wrong sauce. When contacted, I was hung up on in an unfriendly manner several times... I had to call 4 times, new food only arrived within 2 hours. Me - we have to work tomorrow! We will never order from there again. Boss couldn't be reached! Sadly thrown 40 euros out the window and hungry. I have an allergy to broccoli so couldn't eat the incorrectly delivered food, there was no excuse! Nothing Very sad! The boss just came personally and gave us the money back and apologized! The employee would lose his position. Unfortunately we still have to go to sleep hungry because we have to work tomorrow. We'll give it another chance

I ordered via Uber Eats. Therefore, it's possible that my review might not reflect a review after visiting the restaurant in person. First, I have to praise the delivery service. The delivery arrived almost 20 minutes earlier than Uber Eats indicated. The delivery person was also very nice. Therefore, my review of the service refers only to the delivery service and not the in-person service. I can't comment on that. But the most important thing is the food. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and a warm appetizer (Royal Pakoras). Restaurants aren't exactly a recipe for success, and margins are certainly very thin. I'm aware of this. Nevertheless, I would argue that the prices don't correlate strongly with the quality of my meal. The rice was average and not really worth mentioning. While it was better than rice from a cafeteria, that's hardly a standout. Likewise, the amount of meat wasn't particularly large. The four or five pieces were quite small compared to the amount of sauce. Additionally, while there were more pakoras than advertised, some of them looked truly sad, the paneer pakora was missing, as far as I could tell. Overall, the food was okay and nothing more. I wouldn't order from Royal India again, but that's just my personal opinion.

The food lacked the spices so typical of Indian cuisine. Essential ingredients like nuts, which were listed in the dish, were also missing. The constant coming and going of delivery people made it very hectic. The waiter was nice.

I've ordered from there several times, and the first few times were good. What I received a few days ago was truly disappointing. The chicken curry was like water and tasted of almost nothing. There was hardly any meat in it and very little rice. We also had to wait two hours for delivery, and by the time it arrived, the food was almost cold.

The Biryani is the worst, it's fried rice not a biryani and also I guess they use the same gravy for every curry we order and just play with spices and panneer or chicken in it. Worst biryani ever Please visit Swaad in Düsseldorf where you get to know what biryani is. The place is so overrated according to me.

The ambience and service were ok, but I had a bad stomach ache after eating. In the coming days it turned out that it was food poisoning. The incident was reported to the health department.

Butter chicken with nan is too good

I always have delivery, always super fast, tasty, warm and always friendly! I order regularly and it's always good!

I just ordered butter chicken and chicken biryani there was food colour on every piece of meat. To be honest I have not eaten such bad butter chicken

Unfortunately just average food. The delivery took much longer and the food was cold, a very small portion, once and never again.

We reached late for lunch and hence the place was empty. We were surprised by the courteousness of the host and the quality of the food. The vegetable soup was amazing and one of the best I have had. The tomato soup was a bit spicy and had a hint of rasam. Saw a Bhaingan Bharta on a menu in Europe after a long time and had that with Masala Naan, which is a stuffed Kulcha. But the quality of both dishes was again good. The Fried rice is a cross between fried rice and Biryani.

We order there from time to time. The food is delicious and always arrives very warm. Sometimes after 15-20 minutes. The restaurant itself is not particularly fancy.

I ordered food through Uber Eats and waited over two hours without the order arriving. When I tried to call the restaurant to inquire, I was repeatedly ignored - I called more than five times and no one responded. When I finally wanted to cancel the order, that wasn't possible either. I had to contact Uber Eats customer service for help. Such poor customer service and organization is really unacceptable.

Maybe it's better locally - but unfortunately there was no delivery. The extremely long delivery time was announced and the driver informed himself that it would still take some time. The taste really wasn't great. Lukewarm chicken that was fried way too firm and therefore dead. The Nan wasn't good either due to the long time in the aluminum foil. Salad, sauces, samosas, well.

The place advertises to be authentic Indian food, but last night's food was as further away from it as it can be. Both Palak panneer chicken tikka masala tasted just sweet? Absolutely zero flavour, just sweet tomato gravy taste. The waiter specifically asked for spicy or not, and we mentioned spicy and that was what we got. I dont wanna know what not spicy food would taste like. There seems to be so much food coloring in both panneer and chicken. And Palak panneer tasted like gongura (sorrel leaves) rather than palak (spinach). Definitely never going there again at least for north Indian food. Not sure about how biryani and all taste, but wouldnt wanna try. And to top it all off, the prices are too much. Agreed, the prices are competing with other places, but they at least serve good food for that price.

As of September 16, 2024 While looking for a good restaurant with Indian cuisine, I came across the Royal India at Karlsgraben 4 in Aachen online. At around 2 p.m. I ordered a table for two people at 7 p.m. by phone and at the same time asked if it was okay if we brought our two dogs with us. That wasn't a problem, we were told on the phone. When we arrived at the restaurant at the agreed time, a sullen-looking employee came up to us and explained to us in no uncertain terms that dogs were not welcome in the restaurant. Our reservation was ignored. When we objected that we had been told by phone when we made the reservation that we could bring our dogs, he excused himself by saying that we hadn't spoken to him. We do not support this kind of treatment of customers! We then had a very nice evening at the Maharaja on the Alexianergraben. Our well-behaved and calm dogs were welcome, the food was tasty and the service was extremely friendly. What more could you want? The Royal India will have to do without us as customers in every respect in this life! The Maharaja at Alexianergraben 47 in Aachen has gained two new customers. Thumbs up for the Maharaja 👍👍👍👍👍

This is what I received as soon as I opened it—completely untouched. Unfortunately, you pay more and get less now. The quantity and quality aren't what they used to be. All I can taste is cardamom and sugar; it's like drinking flavored tea. Don’t be fooled by the restaurant’s name!

I was insulted by the delivery person even though I approached him from two floors up. The food was ok, but not outstanding.
