Unfortunately, that wasn't for us. I'd compare the food to that of an average chip shop. The service could be much better, considering the ambiance. They brought the wrong thing twice. The Roof Restaurant was not impressive in any respect. While we were waiting for our room at lunchtime, we ordered drinks. The glass of Coke Zero served was in an unhygienic condition – the rim was sticky, and there were residues of an unknown nature inside – absolutely disgusting. This first impression unfortunately continued at breakfast the next morning. The cleanliness and organization of the buffet area were by no means in keeping with a professional restaurant. Unwashed glasses were placed dripping onto the buffet straight from the dishwasher, plates with leftover food were re-set, and overall, the service seemed inattentive and unprofessional. Overall, the restaurant gave a disorganized impression, which neither lived up to the standards nor the category of the establishment. A recommendation cannot be made on this basis.

I ordered a beef fillet with side dishes. The meat was inedible—wobbly, tough, and visually more off-putting than appetizing. When I asked for it, the plate was taken to the kitchen without comment, but the dish never came back. So, in the end, all I ate was a potato with quark for a whopping €37. An absolute no-go for me: lousy food quality, coupled with service that didn't even attempt to rectify the mistake. I certainly won't be going back.

I ate there today and, unfortunately, I have to say: it was an absolute disaster. The value for money is absolutely terrible – the food was overpriced and the quality was disappointing. I had hoped for much more. To make matters worse, there was a fly in my drink when it was served. The glass was immediately replaced after I complained, but that shouldn't happen. The view and the location are truly stunning – I give them a clear 10 out of 10. The food, on the other hand, doesn't even deserve a single star in my opinion. You can get far better and cheaper food at the Italian restaurant down by the beach.

A beautiful restaurant. The breakfast was excellent, and so was the service. Unfortunately, we have to complain about the evening service. As hotel guests, we wanted to have dinner and sat on the terrace. After 15 minutes, no one from the service department had come to our table. When my husband went inside to ask if we could get tickets, he told us the terrace was closed. What was the reason? The weather was fine, and guests should be free to choose where they wanted to sit, or a notice would have been nice. Instead, the two gentlemen continued chatting. What a pity. But we've now found what we were looking for in a restaurant outside the hotel.

I don't understand the bad reviews. We've had several wonderful stays at the Roof. Whether it was morning, afternoon, or evening, the staff was always very attentive, even when it was busy. The food is always delicious and beautifully presented. The sushi variations are served on a boat. Simply amazing! We will definitely be regular guests.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it! The view doesn't make up for the high prices and poor service. The sushi was good, but the vegan bowl for €24.95 was a total disappointment. Cold, unseasoned rice with edamame and some tempured vegetables, no cilantro, no sauce. The waitress didn't ask us how it tasted or if we wanted another drink or dessert. What a shame! Over €60 for two main courses and two drinks is a steep price.

Unfortunately, we were totally disappointed. We wanted a slightly upscale restaurant for our wedding anniversary, which it apparently promises. We got a seat at the front facing the sea, which would have been really nice if the windows were halfway clean. Unfortunately, we waited almost half an hour before our drink order was even taken, even though the restaurant was only about half full. I'll just write off the half-forgotten cutlery as a minor issue. The rib eye, which cost a hefty €30 without a side dish, was unfortunately full of gristle. My wife's sushi consisted of 8 small rolls for €20, which wasn't enough to fill her up. We raised these issues with the waiter, but apart from a sheepish grin, there was no response.

Some people have mentioned poor service, which I can't confirm. We were served immediately, and the food came quickly and completely. Unfortunately, I forgot to order the aperitif first and then the starters, so both came at once. The soups were good, the sushi was quite expensive but plentiful and truly delicious. The tuna was also very good and cooked to perfection. The view of the Baltic Sea is, of course, spectacular, and you can also enjoy a cocktail there. Conclusion: a bit too expensive for Scharbeutz, but otherwise delicious.

We've been coming to the Roof for years for a nice drink. Delicious food, and a fantastic view of the Baltic Sea. On Monday, we had dinner at the Roof. The Aperol was only mediocre. The food was a disaster. I could only eat half of my rib-eye steak, ordered medium; the rest was raw. My wife's meal, a red curry, was completely unseasoned, and the rice was dried out. The waitress's response to the poor food was, "Thank you." Simply disappointing. We won't be coming back...

The renovation of the terrace hasn't done the ambiance any favors. The two of us ate at the Roof today. The service is absolutely terrible. We didn't get menus, so I looked them up online. When we finally got around to ordering after 20 minutes, the food arrived very quickly, unfortunately only before the drinks. The sushi isn't as good as it used to be; 20 euros per roll, for that quality, is very steep in my opinion. The two men were helpful, the woman was rude. The restaurant used to be a highlight and worth a visit. We definitely won't be back.

Roof Top Sushi Bar Grill Scharbeutz – great view, unfortunately a somewhat weaker overall impression First of all: The view here is truly impressive and almost worthy of a 5-star rating. You enjoy a sensational view of the beach promenade and the Bay of Lübeck – truly a highlight that you don't get everywhere. Unfortunately, that was the biggest plus point of our visit for us. The service left us with the feeling of a rather half-hearted welcome. The staff did their bare minimum, but lacked the warmth and commitment that you would expect in such an ambiance. The food was expensive, and overall, the taste wasn't really convincing. This unfortunately somewhat overshadowed the beautiful view and tarnished the overall impression. It's a shame, because the potential here is definitely there. Perhaps we just had a less than perfect day – we would still give the Roof Top Sushi Bar Grill a second chance, because the view is truly something special.

The waiter noted the complaints, but there was no response or even a "we're sorry" – we should have read the reviews beforehand. Absolutely not recommended. Completely overwhelmed staff, an hour-long wait for the food. The lady at the reception, however, was very friendly and attentive.

I'm sorry, but I personally don't need that again for that money. It was even better in 2024. The cafeteria charm is new after a renovation, but the view is magnificent (if you get a window seat). The fact that there are no salmon dishes (in a sushi bar) was never mentioned when we reserved the table, when we arrived, when we were seated, or even when we were handed the menu. Overall, the food was really average. Unfortunately, the staff isn't attentive. The tables around us aren't cleared or wiped down; everything is very slow. There doesn't seem to be any kind of management. Too bad... We're out!

⭐ Tourist rip-off with a beautiful view – nothing more. We went to a surprise party – lovingly planned, with great anticipation. In the end, we were left with only disappointment: endless waits, forgotten appetizers, barely any service, overpriced mediocre food. Drinks only came upon request, and dessert wasn't offered at all. The hostess was so disappointed that she could barely touch her food – even though she had been so happy to see us all. Instead of joy, there was frustration. This is a pure tourist rip-off. They rely on the view – there's nothing more to it. Our advice: Take a photo, enjoy the view – and then quickly go somewhere else.

The reason: we're currently renovating... there's more to come 🙈🤔 I'd offer to buy eight table lamps in Scharbeutz tomorrow 😉 Unfortunately, the photo brightens up the atmosphere far too much, as it was 11 p.m. when it was taken. The waiter ran away... and didn't come back. Probably already in his final days. We'll see how breakfast goes 😅 I sent a long email to management about the matter. Unfortunately, there was no response from the hotel. Sadly disappointing.

The Roof is a restaurant that truly surprised us. The beautiful view from there is particularly noteworthy. Especially in good weather, the view over Scharbeutz and the Baltic Sea is a real highlight and contributes greatly to the relaxed atmosphere. The service was also consistently friendly, attentive, and very professional. The waiters had a pleasant, polite manner and always tried to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We noticed the warm nature of the staff right from the first visit, and this was confirmed on our second visit. The lunch menu was truly outstanding on both days. The food not only tasted very good, but was also of impressive quality. The dishes were fresh, attractively presented, and of a high standard. It was clear that great importance is placed on good ingredients and clean, precise preparation. The open handling of a minor technical problem with the cash register system was particularly pleasant. The staff honestly informed us about the problem, apologized politely, and handled it with confidence – this impressed us very positively and shows how professionally the work is carried out here. Another highlight is the open view into the kitchen, especially the area where the sushi is freshly prepared. It's truly interesting to watch the chefs at work and observe the precision and care with which the dishes are prepared. This adds a special quality to the whole experience and inspires confidence in the freshness of the food. To be honest, we were a little worried at first, as the Roof is also a hotel restaurant – similar to the Jungle, where we unfortunately didn't have a good experience. But the Roof proved us wrong. Here, quality, hospitality, and a pleasant atmosphere are paramount. We felt completely at home on both visits and will definitely return on our next stay in Scharbeutz. Conclusion: The Roof is a modern, stylish restaurant with a great view, excellent food, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere. We definitely recommend it!

Disappointing Visit Despite High Expectations Our visit to this restaurant was unfortunately a huge disappointment – especially since we were so looking forward to the evening. It was my friend's bachelorette party, and we had made a reservation five months ago. However, our reservation couldn't be found. For a restaurant considered one of the best in the city, this is a disappointing start. The view from the restaurant is undoubtedly beautiful, but that alone isn't enough to justify the hype. The service was well-staffed, but still completely overwhelmed. Of our group of six, only four people were initially asked for drinks. The server disappeared so quickly that we barely had a chance to reorder. There were several misunderstandings, both regarding the drinks and the food. A particularly annoying mishap was the vegetarian sushi platter, which suddenly contained a meat roll – apparently, it belonged to another dish at the table. When asked, no one initially knew what it was exactly – first they said it was tofu, then it wasn't. Such uncertainty seems unprofessional. The burgers also arrived cold and tasted average at best. Salt, pepper, and even olive oil had to be requested separately, which further tarnished the impression of thoughtful service. Another point of criticism was the condition of the dishes: There were still food residues in the soy sauce bowls. I felt extremely uncomfortable having to point this out again. Unfortunately, there was no apology or small gesture of regret from the staff – only when we asked were we even taken seriously. After the meal was served, no one attended to our table. We weren't asked for any additional drinks, nor were we offered dessert. The staff seemed arrogant, even rude at times. It was also noticeable that other tables received significantly better service, which further worsened the overall impression. Conclusion: A disappointing evening in a restaurant that, in our opinion, doesn't even come close to living up to its reputation. It's a real shame – we would have appreciated much more professionalism and hospitality for such a special occasion. Unfortunately, a lot depends on the service.

Our visit to this restaurant was unfortunately disappointing. Despite a reservation made four months in advance, the staff had no information about it. This indicates organizational deficiencies. Service was consistently inattentive. There were several communication issues: A vegetarian sushi platter was mistakenly served with chicken, even though it had previously been confirmed upon inquiry that it was tofu. The staff's statements on this matter were contradictory. Furthermore, a person's drink order was not taken at the table. Another hygiene issue arose when an old potato was found stuck in a freshly served bowl. After the food was served, the table was not attended to. Neither an apology was offered nor any effort was made to adequately rectify the situation. Only upon our explicit request was a bottle of sparkling wine served as compensation – without any accompanying communication or discernible effort to remedy the situation. The view is undoubtedly appealing, but it cannot compensate for the serious deficiencies in service and organization. Improvement in these areas is urgently needed.

Beautiful view, mediocre food, poor service, uncomfortable chairs – that's our verdict from a Friday evening with four people. The veal schnitzel was covered in a completely tasteless breading, and the sushi selection was below the standard one would expect from the chic presentation (served on a small wooden boat). The staff are extremely inattentive; no menu, no drinks, no dessert, and no bill is brought without vigorous waving. There are quite a few staff members around at peak times, but they don't look around; they simply ignore the guests and walk on by. We're not talking about a snapshot here; we were there for three hours. Overall, a completely disastrous price-performance ratio. Sure, with a constantly changing clientele, you can get away with all this; the location obviously guarantees demand. But we won't be coming back, even though we live nearby.

Who actually owns this beautiful, stylish bar with the fantastic view? And why does this person place so little value on hospitality, professionalism, and the reputation of their beautiful and high-quality location?! On Saturday evening, we, along with over 20 guests, honored our reservation to round off a wonderful, milestone birthday and were looking forward to a special conclusion in a truly beautiful space. Then there must have been a communication and reservation processing error on the part of the rooftop bar. It can happen! But the reaction of the waitress in charge was simply disgustingly arrogant and dismissive! Over 20 people suddenly felt offended, their mood completely irritated, brought down, and shocked by so much unfriendliness and unprofessionalism! We couldn't use our reserved table in the adjoining room because the kitchen (we were never booked for a meal, but for a private evening of drinks!) was closing soon. After some unpleasant back and forth and standing in the way (no hospitality, no charm, nothing!), we were allowed to sit at the bar (but please don't stand in the aisle!!). I personally didn't order anything and only stayed for a few minutes for the sake of my dear friends. I found it so awful how incredibly arrogant, awkward, unprofessional, and dismissive the waiters were as they handed out drink menus one by one and finally took our orders. It was a decent night's work, and the bartender behind the bar did his job well, all by himself, even though there were probably five waiters milling around. I honestly couldn't believe I could experience something like that in a place like this in this day and age. If any other location had still been open at 10 p.m., we would have definitely moved on! From conversations on-site and also in the reviews here, experiences of poor service are becoming increasingly common. Untrained staff! Too much pressure for too little money? Whatever. Not a recommendation – unless poor service is the desired highlight. ;)

Based on recommendations and full of anticipation, we visited Roof last week. The view is truly beautiful. Apparently, it's what you pay for, and the prices are supposed to justify it. The sushi, however, could barely compete with a good sushi delivery service in Hamburg. Given the prices, I expected higher quality and a more balanced mix of spices. The service was a bit forced, but initially very good, but then unfortunately deteriorated over the course of the evening. The miso soup was very good, and the cocktails and wine selection were decent. All in all, I expected more for the price and was rather disappointed.

A real highlight in Scharbeutz. Ribeye steak cooked to perfection, beautifully pink, with an intense flavor. The truffle parmesan sauce was a perfect match. The restaurant on the rooftop of the Bayside Hotel: a large winter garden with a view of the sea, stylishly decorated, elegant, relaxing music, simply an atmosphere that makes you feel at home. Service was attentive but not pretentious. The prices for the food, ambiance, and overall experience were more than reasonable. I'll definitely be back!

We visited the restaurant based on the menu displayed outside (ground floor), but then discovered that the current menu no longer fully reflected the one on display. The staff were friendly but unsympathetic and, despite the relatively low occupancy at the time of our visit, rather abrupt. However, we did have the feeling that certain guests (possibly guests of the Bayside Hotel???) were treated more courteously. We also noticed that certain (good) seats were reserved for these guests. The higher prices do not necessarily match the drinks and food served. The food was good and tasty, but we have had porcini mushroom ravioli, for example, of at least the same quality for far less than the €27.50 we paid here. We also had a chocolate cake for dessert at a restaurant in Haffkrug, which was equally delicious and half price. All in all, a restaurant with good food, but not exactly the right price-performance ratio. The view, the name, and the proximity to Bayside are probably part of the price. Our conclusion: Food OK - service could be improved - prices a bit too high. We went there once, but we won't eat there again - there are cheaper, but equally good restaurants in Scharbeutz, Haffkrug, or Niendorf.

I thought, for those prices, they'd at least serve you something that didn't taste like stale shoes – wrong. I order a rump steak, medium, so pink and juicy – ​​what comes? A bone-dry, overcooked shoe sole. I might as well have deep-fried the insole of my hiking boot; it would have been cheaper and more tender. But the main thing is that the bill comes with a grin – and that for 70 euros for a piece of meat that could pass for either a doorstop or a medical emergency. CONCLUSION: If you have money to spare and are happy to be insulted, ripped off, and fed meat from hell – fine. Everyone else: Run. Run as far as you can. I'd rather eat a bratwurst at the gas station – it has more class and taste than the whole place combined. Never. Again.

Unfortunately, the rooftop has declined considerably. The menu lists corn-fed porridge with two sides. Hmmmmm, a bit strange, isn't it? I ordered a baked potato and vegetables. Even when I asked the waiter, there was no response. It costs €31.90, which is a real cheek. They poured balsamic vinegar over my sushi? Why balsamic vinegar in sushi? It's all very incomprehensible. The roof terrace has been renovated and is half as nice as it was before, but that wouldn't have shocked us...but the service certainly was!! We were there on a Monday at lunchtime (April 28th, a completely normal day) and, apart from ours, only one table was occupied. There were several waiters on duty, but apparently none were in charge. My girlfriend ordered steak, I had sushi. Despite repeated inquiries when a member of staff was finally visible, my girlfriend eventually got up and went over to ask, but after 75 minutes she still hadn't had her food. Our drinks were, of course, long gone, and no one asked about them. So after 75 minutes, we got up, paid for what we had eaten, and left. If they had really been busy, they would have had a lot of

My family and I wanted to celebrate Mother's Day at the Roof and treat ourselves to good food and a great view. It started out strange that the elevator was broken and there was no sign pointing to it... When we made the reservation, I had already pointed out that we wanted a special table with a beautiful view. However, on site the staff informed us that there was no such notice, so we were seated at an ordinary table without any decorations. This wasn't reserved for us either but had to be adjusted for six people. The service left a lot to be desired. Our waiters - there was no fixed responsibility - showed little commitment. First we waited for the tickets, then to order. The food was ok but not top notch enough for the price. The baked potato was standard at best, there was no special kick to any dish. The beef fillet was good, but all dishes were overpriced due to the individual orders of the side dishes and even sauces. The untrained service staff were really unbelievable. When the drinks and later the food came, the staff couldn't name either and we had to guess. Nobody asked in between if everything was okay. Nobody asked about satisfaction after eating. Nobody asked about satisfaction when paying. After the meal, the dishes stood on the table for ages, then an untrained worker came and gradually cleared everything away in several rounds, including the glasses. We had to wait forever to pay. In total we spent almost €200, but neither the service nor the quality of the food was appropriate for this price. The lack of customer orientation and the inattentive and non-professional service have left a lasting negative impression on us. A repeat visit is out of the question for us. It's such a shame given the great location and the view...

It's coming to an end. I've been here regularly since it opened, but it was difficult at the beginning. Then it settled in and was really good for years. Now a NO GO after the renovation. Bad, unskilled, friendly but completely incompetent service. Only the current restaurant manager / “head waiter” is working his way out of his mind, I feel sorry for him. Nice location with, if you get a seat at the window, a great view of the Baltic Sea. Unfortunately we had a very bad day of service. First we waited 20 minutes to place an order even though the restaurant wasn't even 20% full. Then the ordered sushi came for two people and then 10 minutes later the pike perch and soup for the other two people. I only got cutlery for my zander when I asked. Not once did the service staff ask whether more drinks were wanted. However, the food was very good. The kitchen is highly recommended. We then had to wait another 20 minutes for the bill. We were charged EUR 37 for the zander, even though it was listed on the menu as an arrangement including two side dishes and a sauce for EUR 21.50. When we asked, we were told that the arrangements only apply from 5 p.m. However, there was no information about this on the map. Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on my experience. The 3 stars are the result of 5 stars for the cuisine and 0 stars for the "service" at McDonald's level.

The food was always excellent, the service attentive and the atmosphere harmonious. Unfortunately, after the renovation, a lot of things changed for the worse. The portions have become significantly smaller, which wouldn't be the problem - if the service hadn't also deteriorated significantly. Unfriendly staff, long waiting times and an almost disrespectful tone at times. When we politely commented that the level of service had deteriorated, our comment was met with a laugh and the statement, “Should I cry now?” acknowledged - an absolute no-go if the bill is over €200. Really a shame. We have been regular guests for a long time, but unfortunately that was our last visit for the time being.

Four of us ate at the roof with a reservation. The restaurant was well attended. At first we were served relatively quickly, but then passed our menus to the next table because there was no service there. From our seat we looked directly onto the terrace, where empty and broken glasses were piled up on the railing. For starters we had sushi, which was placed on the table without plates, chopsticks or soy sauce. We only received everything upon request. We waited over 2 hours for our main courses. When we commented on this in the meantime (even when a waiter asked if everything was okay with us), we were told it was full, that we couldn't expect anything else if we went out to eat on a public holiday and that he wasn't responsible for us at all... Since the waiter said that it would take about 20 minutes until our food came, we said we would be happy to pay and leave. We were then told we were stupid and could no longer cancel our order. Only another waiter who came along "saved" the situation somewhat by apologizing, buying us a round of drinks and (at our suggestion) at least giving us some bread. The food itself was very tasty. The service was still a total disaster and not worth a single star. Customer satisfaction is definitely not a priority here. Not a good reference for a restaurant that leaves over €200...

Wir waren mit Reservierung zu einem frühen Dinner mit der Familie, davon eine Person mobilitätseingeschränkt, im Roof. Obgleich bei Ankunft wenig Gäste anwesend waren, war der Tisch nicht eingedeckt und es herrschte Unklarheit, wo wir sitzen sollten. Nachdem wir uns auf Anweisung des Personals an einem Tisch -der nicht unsere erste Wahl war- eingerichtet hatten, wurde uns plötzlich gesagt, an diesem Tisch könnten wir nur eine Stunde sitzen, dann sei er reserviert. Wir zogen also -und nun war das plötzlich möglich- zu dem Tisch unserer ersten Wahl um. Es wurden dann unterschiedliche Speisekarten ausgegeben, was zu einiger Verwirrung bei uns führte. Irgendwann konnten wir wenigstens Getränke bestellen. Die beiden KiBa kamen mit dreckigem Glasrand, wurden zwar anstandslos ausgetauscht, aber das war schon eklig. Zu den Flaschen Wasser mit sportlich je € 9,90 kamen für 5 Personen nur 4 Gläser. Uns war auch eine Damenhandtasche versehentlich auf den Boden gefallen und diese war sodann schmutzübersät. Als das Essen endlich kam, wurde eines der Gerichte, ausdrücklich vegetarisch bestellt, mit Speck serviert. Auch dieses Essen wurde anstandslos zurückgenommen und in vegetarisch zubereitet, aber es konnte dann eben nicht zeitgleich gegessen werden. Die anderen Essen waren soweit okay, mit Ausnahme, dass statt grünem Spargel weißer Spargel als Beilage serviert wurde. Der Service insgesamt war nicht eines Restaurants in dem hohen Preissegment und der Lage angemessen. Wir haben kein Trinkgeld gegeben und auch eine Rückmeldung zur schlechten Serviceleistung gegeben, was lediglich zur Kenntnis genommen wurde.

Man muss dem Restaurant allerdings auch empfehlen, sich nicht zu erweitern, wenn man nicht in der Lage ist, einen entsprechenden Service zu bieten. Das Essen war sehr gut, der Service für den eher gehobenen Preis jedoch ein absolutes Desaster. Es dauerte alleine über 30 Minuten, bis das Geschirr von der Vorspeise abgeräumt wurde. Das konnten wir auch bei den anderen Tischen beobachten.Zum Steak wurde kein Steakmesser gebracht, auch auf Nachfrage nicht. Wir mussten zweimal nachfragen. Als das Steakmesser dann kam, war das Steak quasi schon verzehrt. Auch eine Bestellung wurden vergessen. Und am Ende bei der Bezahlung gab es keine vernünftige Entschuldigung, sondern nur eine kurze arrogante Bemerkung: Es sind eben ein paar Servicekräfte krank. Sehr schade, weil angesichts des Essens könnte das Restaurant auch eine fünf Sterne Bewertung erhalten…..Aber der Service gehört nun einmal dazu…

The atmosphere at the Roof in Scharbeutz is really nice, and the food tasted good - so promising so far. Unfortunately, this positive impression was significantly diminished by the service. The starters were served around 10 minutes apart, which is unfortunate for a shared meal. For my main course – the plaice – I was told that the fried potatoes were out. Although alternatives were offered (including green asparagus), there was an overall lack of attention and confidence in the service. The staff seemed overwhelmed, questions were sometimes only answered briefly and the cleaning of the tables was not kept up - used dishes and empty glasses were left standing for a long time. For a location that presents itself as an exclusive rooftop bar with high standards, the experience was unfortunately disappointing. Good cuisine, but the service doesn't match the image.

The three of us (and our dog) ate here today, and everything was delicious. We had pollock, zander fillet, and a fish platter, each with fried potatoes and salad 🥗. Friendly, attentive service. The food arrived quickly, was hot, and well-seasoned. We'd love to come back 👍
