Thin schnitzels, friendly service

You can tell tourism keeps the restaurant alive. Customers you only see once, who want to experience Frankfurt and try German food, are taken to pieces here. I wouldn't have eaten here voluntarily if our visiting friends hadn't been waiting. So I ordered a simpler Jägerschnitzel with Spätzle. When it arrived, the schnitzel was okay, nothing to praise even if the meat had been cooked all the way through... the Spätzle could have been mistaken for water, because that's what they tasted like! Halfway through eating it, there was even a hair in the food. When I said something, it wasn't found at first, or didn't want to be found, so I took it out by hand and showed it to them. Then the brilliant question was, "Do I want to keep eating it or get a new one?" I would have loved to leave a brown cake on the table and leave, but since I had friends with me, I didn't want to ruin the atmosphere. Conclusion: 0 stars and tourists should walk five minutes further. Not everything in the city center can convince with its location! In any case, there are 7 more dissatisfied customers until the end of his days

Absolutely terrible joke!!! I'd rather give it 0 stars. The price and taste were disgusting, I can't think of any other way to describe it. A carelessly spit-out cheese platter for €15. Four small pieces of cheese that were already rancid and rock-hard. The menu said it came with a baguette, but in reality, we got four slices of stale bread. We returned half of it. The schnitzel was edible, but the taste was nothing special. The spaetzle were certainly bought in and served cold. Our server was friendly, though, and gave us four shots of schnapps on the house as compensation. Definitely not recommended!!!

Four of us ate here and initially ordered a cheese platter for €15.50. It was inedible; what they sold us was an absolute disgrace. The cheese was already stale on the sides and rock hard. Then came the main course: four Wiener schnitzels, traditional style. The mushrooms were disgusting, very old, and the sauce was far too thick. The schnitzel itself also tasted spoiled. Unfortunately, the spaetzle were bought in from a third party and were very bad, as well as ice cold... I absolutely do not recommend this place! It's a total disgrace!

I don't know why people have given such negative reviews. We went there early evening in August and received prompt, attentive and very friendly service. Food was good and very reasonably priced, especially for the location. Some reviewers have whinged that you need to pay cash for any bill less than 50 euros. So maybe you should carry cash with you in any case.

We arrived at the restaurant and first had to wait for 15 minutes. The waitress apologized — okay, no problem. Then, my boyfriend and I ordered a beer, and after that, a shot of rakija. When we finished, my boyfriend went to order a second round — a different kind of rakija, since we’re tourists and wanted to try more. At that point, the waitress commented: “Look at everything your girlfriend is drinking.” This was a completely unprofessional attitude. It’s extremely inappropriate to make such a comment — even if we drank the whole restaurant dry, is it really her place to say something like that?

Stay away from the menu! We had two dishes: boiled potatoes with boiled eggs and green sauce, and the "homemade" bratwurst with sauerkraut and fried potatoes. The bratwurst was the only thing that was halfway decent. The fried potatoes were too greasy, the sauerkraut was completely unseasoned, and the green sauce tasted like parsley paste with mayo. Even worse: the boiled potatoes and eggs were clearly from the day before, and the eggs were unappealingly overcooked. Overall, a huge disappointment – absolutely not recommended.

We went to the restaurant today and ordered a schnitzel with potatoes and green sauce, and a beef goulash with spaetzle. However, the food was inedible: The goulash tasted like dog food, the spaetzle were dry, the breading on the schnitzel stuck to the meat and was mushy, and the potatoes were gray and sour. After tasting them, we immediately asked for the bill and left. Even though the staff saw that we had left all the food behind, they charged us the full amount. We absolutely would not recommend this place.

One of the best restaurants in Frankfurt. The cider is delicious. The service is spectacular.

IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO GIVE LESS THAN ONE STAR, OTHERWISE WE WOULD HAVE. The incredibly rude older waiter thought he was being clever with us. We hadn't even ordered yet, and they brought us the tourist dish. Instead of apologizing, he started attacking us and insulting Italy and Italians, and we were obviously forced to get up. RUN AWAY, plus the beer was warm. It's embarrassing. Close the door. (I should point out that I was also pregnant and I even said so, congratulations.)

A quick stop for a drink, not much to say. It's a shame they asked for a tip to explain that it's customary in Germany.

Delicious schnitzel. They brought us glasses of water, but they poured it down a bit quickly. It's good, and in a very nice place.

Centrally located, with direct access to tourists from all over the world... and in the middle of it all: an employee who clearly wants to personally scare away every guest. Friendliness? None. Service ethos? None. Motivation? Evidently somewhere between "not at all" and "I don't care." Whoever decided to employ this gentleman in the guest area should urgently attend a hospitality training course themselves. Frankfurt deserves better.

We were a group from the Community of Madrid on July 7th. It's inconceivable what this restaurant can be classified as. The food wasn't even suitable for animals. The staff treated us undignified, disrespectful, throwing our plates at us, and serving us quickly so we could leave for the next group. We went on arrival and departure, and the same thing happened both days. Please, let the Community take note and change to another restaurant and give us a decent meal. The way we treat Germans here in Spain can't be compared to the way they treat us.

Not recommended, not even to walk through the door. The food is terrible, the restaurant is not very clean, and the boss, who is a waiter, is an unpresentable, rude, and despotic person with no education or customer service at all.

We came as a group through the Madrid region. The service was terrible, the food was awful, they treated us like dogs, and the waiters had bad tempers! Not at all recommended. This is so we can roll out the red carpet for them when they come to Spain. Total disappointment.

Not recommended. The food wasn't fresh. The pork loin came in an oily sauce and, like the spaetzle, boiled beef, and potatoes, seemed not fresh but reheated from yesterday. This also explains the very short wait. The only positive thing is the location and the pleasant outdoor seating. Another negative point: cash only!

No air conditioning, horrible service and lousy food!!

Service was prompt but that's where good things end. Portions are small, food tasted awful, beggars and flower sellers keep pestering you interrupting your dinner. Advice to the management-go to Eisgrub in Mainz and learn how an excellent establishment should operate.

Brother did not mention that there is a minimum of €30 spend to use card until it’s time to pay. Directs you to the ATM downstairs of his property where theres a surcharge that costs more than a beer.

A restaurant with no sense of service. My husband and I went there for dinner and ended up having an extremely unpleasant experience — it only ruined the image of Frankfurt for us. We were waiting in front of the restaurant when someone who seemed to be the owner came out. I raised our hands to get seated, but even though he saw me right in front of him, he just blatantly ignored us. I was so furious. Maybe they’re so full of themselves because they get a lot of tourists, or maybe it was racism — either way, I can’t believe a restaurant like that exists. On the other hand, I feel lucky that we didn’t spend any money there.

Really good, freshly cooked food. They even kept the kitchen open late for us.

2021: Very tasty and inexpensive. Staff super friendly. 2025 Update: Nothing remains of the past; the food is no longer good, just acceptable, and the portions are extremely small. The staff are extremely rude, especially a man with glasses serving outside, terrible. The plates are very cold. This is my fourth time here: once in 2018, once in 2021, once in early 2025, and now in mid-2025, and this is my last time, which is a shame. The only thing that's still good is the location, but that's it. Now it's a complete tourist trap. I'm so disappointed. You can only pay in cash.

The location is perfect. You can order apfelwine here, the waiter has some recommendation for you. The price is reasonable , just you can pay in card when you order more than 50 Euro. So be prepared to have enough cash :)

The most special thing about this restaurant is, obviously, its location. Right in the center of Frankfurt, overlooking the city's most beautiful square. The food is nothing special, typically German, with its knuckle, sausages, meat dishes, and, of course, its beer. The prices aren't expensive compared to German prices. The apple strudel isn't worth the price. In short, nothing spectacular, but it has a nice little terrace.

Despite the various "complaints, we were very well attended to. The food was excellent, and the service was great.

We found the way guests are treated here when they "just" want a drink to be quite rude. They immediately ask if you want something to eat. If you "just" want a drink, you're immediately sent away, even though almost all the tables are free. We've never experienced anything like this before. Hospitality is a foreign concept here! The food also leaves a lot to be desired. Its taste is disappointing, unfortunately. No one sees us again.

Opening time is wrong, I was sent away

The food is really bad; there are 100 better and cheaper places in Frankfurt alone where you can eat delicious schnitzel. The breading here wasn't crispy, but rather soggy from the lettuce underneath. The fried potatoes were pale, the cranberries were poor convenience food, and the meat was also slightly acidic. The view is quite nice there, but this is basically a tourist rip-off.

Stopped by here by chance to get out of the rain and have a beer. We ended up ordering the fine beef goulash with German noodles and salad. Amazing! My husband had the Hunter style schnitzel with a mushroom sauce and noodles. Even more amazing! Thank you for a wonderful suprise.

My friend and I were strolling through Römerberg after lunch and decided to stop for a couple of beers. We sat down, got our menus, and noticed that outdoor seating required ordering the larger beer — no big deal. But after placing our order, the waiter informed us that drinks alone weren’t allowed — “2 drinks = 2 mains minimum.” Yeah… we got up and left.

Terrible experience - the food tasted like it was cooked previously, then frozen, then thawed and reheated in microwave and served to us!!! Nothing, but absolutely nothing was fresh. It gave me digestive issues that night and the following days. I suggest AVOID, I think any other choice around would be better. The staff were kind and helpful, but the quality of food is horrendous!

The pork knuckle was disappointing. It was rather dry. The spargel soup was pretty good. The sausage platter was pretty good. The servings are large so either have a great appetite or else share with someone else.

Tourist Trap, clearly. Worst, most over-priced experience. Frankfurter Grüne sauce was a tiny serving (1/10th of what one normally receives.) 1. While eating, the server asked me to pay so the colleague could go home. I happily obliged, understanding that it was an exception and respecting Feierabend. 2. I went to the restroom, and although not done, (fork and knife not set to show I was done!) they cleared my plate and my half full drink. 3. They asked us to leave because they needed the table. Unacceptable at the prices. We weren't even there for an hour. Absolutely rude and I (native to Frankfurt) will never ever take my tourist friends here again. Many better options in the city. Avoid.

Lovely terrace in the heart of Frankfurter Römer square. A nice little stroll in the old town and we wanted to relax and enjoy a beer and a homemade cider. Ultimately not possible since you have to order food... too bad. But something we did with a traditional pork knuckle and we had a great time! Incredibly unfriendly waiters. Ordered ice cream absolutely loveless, almost melted, ready-made cream! No card payment but own ATM in the restaurant. And that in a big city like Frankfurt! Absolute tourist rip-off. We won't be coming back

A disaster. Contracted menu and they put what they think. They offer apple wine courtesy of the house and then charge a high price for it even though no one drank it because it is a kind of cider that is worse than Qué.

Good solid place with good food for the price point. Our wait staff was very pleasant and offered us suggestions due to our lack of experience with Herman dishes.

If I could I would give the store 0 stars. If it's below 10 degrees, you can only drink outside Waiting briefly at the counter when someone goes to the toilet is not allowed. I don't understand the bad reviews at all. The service staff was super friendly and really accommodating! We had the goulash soup as a starter, the Jägerschnitzel and Nuremberger with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut as the main course. It was delicious and the service made it taste even better. The only drawback was the spaetzle but the rest was perfect! Above all, the bread that was served with the soup was fresh and excellent!! We'll be back!

In the most turistic area.....no credit card, only cash!

Rarely have I eaten such a carelessly prepared schnitzel, the fried potatoes were dripping with fat. Half the order was initially forgotten. Cash only, but luckily there is a Euronet machine on site where you can get really ripped off.

If you don't eat pork, I think it's the only German restaurant in the area for breakfast. Goulash (beef soup), schnitsel, kartofel pufer (like potato meatballs), and veal sausage.. the gayrt was good👍 we just didn't like the one with potatoes and mustard, which was the side dish of the veal sausage.. generally good👍

Very uncommercial. You have to finish a cappuccino quickly in case other customers arrive. But the customers don't rush. The European reception is definitely not up to par....

Potato pancakes were offered as a vegetarian meal, which unfortunately turned out to be thawed convenience products and are therefore not recommended. In general the portions were relatively small. We were served by the head of the house. He wasn't really friendly, put us under time pressure and didn't let us sit inside even though the tables were still unoccupied when we left. There is also an obligation to only order large drinks outside, even though we were forced to sit outside. I would visit a different restaurant next time. Unfortunately, the schnitzel with potatoes and green sauce for 17.50 EUR was very cold and tasteless. I visit this restaurant regularly every three months. The beer is just great, 10/10! But the schnitzel has become more expensive since the new year, the portion is very small and cold. I have been here ten times or more, but I won't come back until the food gets better. Not recommended, the place has gone downhill a lot.

So the service was ok, of course it could be more friendly. The ambience was very nice. Toilets were very clean and the seating areas were very comfortable. Now about the food, I couldn't give it a single star. In my life I have never eaten a steak that was cold in the middle. The fried potatoes were fried in old oil and also not cooked through in the middle. As sorry as I am, I can't recommend it more. Terrible experience! I've been to this place and unfortunately I can only tell you about a truly unpleasant episode. When I was served my plate, I found a hair in it. I immediately mentioned this to the staff and was asked if I wanted them to change it, but by then I had lost my appetite in disgust. The real problem came at the time of payment: the dish, which I didn't consume, was still charged entirely to my bill. I find it absolutely unacceptable that, despite the inconvenience caused by them, they did not have the decency to remove that dish from the total. A place that treats customers like this shows little attention and even less respect. I will not return and I do not recommend it to anyone.

Chanced upon this gem of a place while strolling around Römerberg in the afternoon. Tried the Frankfurt Grill Plate and Schnitzel Hunter Style with German noodles. They were delicious we had no regrets at all. The staff were also very friendly and made us feel at home. The waiter taking our order suggested for us to try their homebrewed beer and of course, it was a great recommendation. I will definitely return again if I’m in the area in future! Great food for a great price with great people. Just a note that they only accept cash, but there is a cash withdrawal machine located at the basement.

Unpleasant visit to the restaurant. 1. We had specially reserved a table on the 2nd floor, which was not allocated to us even though it was promised to us when we reserved it by telephone. 2. Old cards were handed out where the dishes were no longer correct and were no longer on offer. 3. There was butter on the starter plate that was over 1 week expired. When we talked about it, the service said it wasn't that bad. Actually a no-go and unprofessional in the catering industry. So be careful when choosing food.

Very atmospheric place and service!!!

Excellent service on a cold evening in Frankfurt. The waitress even checked to make sure the radiator was hot. We both had the rump steak with roast potatoes both were delicious.

This is one of the restaurants on Römerplatz. If you want to enjoy German cuisine and Apfel wine, this is the place to go. Of course, there is a wide variety of beer, wine, and soft drinks available. Since the portions of the dishes are large, it is best to keep the meat platter small and share it with everyone. This time, the meat platter was enough for 4 people, but even with 6 people sharing it, there was more than enough. Maybe it would have been better if I had one plate for two people and ordered another plate of another dish. Also, there seems to be a room on the second floor where you can eat. We relaxed and enjoyed dinner until the restaurant was about to close.
