What we're missing: Delicious Mai-Bock and light wheat beer and the delicious daily specials that were available until last year.

The beer garden is idyllically situated among plants and trees along the Rhine. The beer is okay. The white wine is rather stale. The food selection is very limited, expensive, and simply bad. It was much better under the previous tenant. Another major negative is the long wait times. The line stretches all the way to the sidewalk, and it takes ages to get a drink or order a meal. Things were better before.

Still one of the most beautiful beer gardens in the city. However, the waiting times at the ticket office are very long, but the old owner (God bless him) went much quicker.

I've been to the beer garden over and over again over 25 years ago!! I always found the old gentleman material and completely out of place. Didn't even want to mix a Kölsch/Cola. Now I was back after a long time because I thought: new tenant/owner = a breath of fresh air and an update of the whole thing! The shop is already getting old. Sorry, but nothing has changed... The shop could have been given a coat of paint/new seating/sanded/painted the ancient wooden floor or thought of a new concept for catering purposes. So I was super disappointed! And the currywurst was the worst I've eaten in a long time. The currywurst had an animal aftertaste and the curry sauce was a completely watered down paprika puzta sauce! It had nothing to do with curry sauce. The fries were good. The only nice thing about the store is the great location... It's a shame you don't do anything with it. Don't come back for a while. !

Super lovely beer garden! The only issue is that it's soooo hard to get a drink and the waiting time at the self-service counter is way too long on sunny days.

Opinions about the “swimming pool” probably vary widely. We love it as is and hope it retains its dingy charm and originality! You can read the sad news here that the former tenant died last year, he rests in peace.

We have known the swimming pool for many years. Were excited about Heller's reboot: Externally unchanged, I would have expected and wished for a new look and seating. Food pretty much identical, rather less. But nothing exciting or anything worth going to. Unfortunately. That's why we've been there less in recent summers, the food is always the same and rather mediocre. Now here are the fries, solid and small. Portion ok at 3.50 euros; BUT: Ketchup/mayo from Kraft in the well-known disposable plastic bags for 0.60 euros each??!!! It's still okay, we got a total of 4 pieces of fries for one time, 2.40 euros for them, plus the unnecessary waste that this causes. Checked: Purchasing costs 0.10 euros per pack of 100. So really not hospitable, in any way!!!! This makes fries 5.90 euros.....INRE!!! For a beer or a spritzer with the ambience still one of the most beautiful beer gardens in Cologne. Hopefully you will change this dilemma with Rut and Wieß and conceptually the kitchen too!

Disappointing. I was hoping that the beer garden would be spruced up after the change of ownership: none. I have the impression that things are going even worse now and are even trickier. Personally, I find that very unfortunate and difficult to understand. We would now have had over half a year to prepare for a great beer garden season.

Really nice beer garden but the promise to deliver "open-air fries" was not fulfilled at all.

A wonderful place, right on the Rhine, to relax, meet friends and of course to eat or drink something delicious. There are super delicious cakes, currywurst and other delicious dishes and super delicious rhubarb spritzer. In April, an abundance of beautiful wisteria delights the eyes and the soul.

Closed on Mondays. Today is Tuesday. Still everything closed. Too bad. Even though it is shown as open. :/

As long-time regular customers, we were excited to see how the Hellers team got off to a successful start. When we were there a few days ago the only food we had was schnitzel with coleslaw (unfortunately we didn't like it at all) or fries. The prices have also increased significantly again. The drinks menu is extensive, unfortunately you don't seem to have any Maibock in your range anymore. The ambience has remained, but the processes are still quite slow, so that even though the beer garden was only half full, a queue had already formed all the way down to the street. We're disappointed so far, but we'll definitely come back again in the hope that the menu and service have improved.

I enjoy going here every year because it is or was unique. Unfortunately I was very disappointed today. Top turned into flop. I fondly remember the gentleman at the window who made the shop an experience with his demure but unique manner. The staff was on their toes. the atmosphere was great and contagious. The staff today is miles away from that. Playing on his cell phone, sitting at the table and drinking Kölsch himself, he already seems listless and unhospitable at the start of the season. The whole atmosphere is gone. Currywurst fries didn't taste good. The currywurst is a normal bratwurst, which wasn't the case before. The curry sauce was none. Ketchup is now available in bags and even at the table there were wooden chip forks and not even a napkin. I don't think the prices are appropriate (currywurst fries 10.90 euros) and you don't need to justify them with increased prices. That's just too expensive. There was no cake. Everything is very provisional although there is no need for a new concept or anything like that to continue or take over this store. Sorry guys but I won't be back and I'd rather remember the good old days.

Norbert, the long-time innkeeper, left us last late summer. Now his beer garden belongs to the Hellers Group and the unique “swimming pool” no longer even has its own internet address. On the brewery side it almost disappears into the pompous nonsense. After all: the extensive selection of drinks, including the many different bottled beers, seems to have hardly changed and the reopening has been announced for spring. On the other hand: today, on April 4th, 2025, under current news it says "Our beer garden, swimming pool Rhein-Sommergarten is closed today, March 21st, 2025."

Wonderful beer garden in a prime location with a wonderfully mixed crowd because it's outside the tourist zone; one of the few beer gardens in Cologne that, in my Franconian sense, deserve the name (and the Franconians know a thing or two about beer gardens!). The boss only gets upset when amateurs don't understand the beer garden concept and only start thinking about what they want at the serving window when it's busy and then don't have the table number ready for food delivery. PEOPLE, that's the only way it works, unless you want to wait for hours like in the Cologne caricatures of a beer garden for a vagabond Köbes with his test tubes, who then just says that a colleague is responsible for the table. Addendum: The long-time tenant unfortunately died in 2024 (RIP, Norbert). Beer garden from 2025 under the management of the Cologne brewing family Heller, but apparently (and hopefully) according to a tried and tested concept.

The price is in proportion to the quality and the portion size of the food and the ambience are not justified and far too high. A fries with currywurst for 7.00 euros, the portion of fries was quite manageable and they are standard fries comparable to the big yellow M. As is the self-service.

It's all pretty old came. The showers are no longer nice. Expressed positively. The place as such has something from the Eastern Bloc. Here a building ready for demolition, there a pile of sand. The restaurant is a bright spot! Urgently needs an organizing hand. It was cheap. But I would rather pay 10 euros more.

Very nicely located on the Rhine and suitable as a stopover for a bike trip. Were there in very warm weather and sat in the quiet outdoor area. Staff was very friendly and the price was reasonable. We recommend.

One of my favorite beer gardens in Cologne, a former outdoor swimming pool complex, in the immediate vicinity of the Rhine. Good beer selection with delicious draft beers, family-friendly menu with reasonable prices. At the back there is a playground that is clearly visible from the mountain terrace. Whether alone or in company, you feel comfortable here. When it comes to service, you place orders at the counter, paid, drinks are taken to your seat, food is brought to the table. ....always happy as soon as the sun comes out 👍

Everything perfect. In the summer, a clear beer and a bowl of wedges… there's no better place for that! Keep it up

Nice atmosphere on the banks of the Rhine! You can have a good drink here, the food is either at the average level of a chip shop (self service) or good (for daily specials), but overpriced due to the mini portions.

Unfortunately, they only accept cash here. Unfortunately, a meatball "just like that" without fries and salad is not possible, the kitchen/service here can't manage that. The location on the Rhine and under the trees is very pretty. Anyone who likes exuberant black and red gold flags is in good hands here.

We like to come here by bike. Order at the counter and the food is then brought to the table. The meatball with potato cucumber salad was particularly delicious. Gladly again

Great atmosphere 😊 first day of summer in spring. No stress! Directly on the Rhine! Fries were a little too crispy! Otherwise, Hellers Weizen with rhubarb is an adventure (but I probably won't repeat it again!) As I said: great ambience and easy and relaxed to reach by bike, from Barbarossa Platz to Ebertplatz, using the secret paths through the city center and then from Bastei on the banks of the Rhine directly to the idyllic sky-blue beer garden! ... Top!

A real highlight in summer is the beer garden with a view of the Rhine. It offers plenty of space and a range of affordable meals. There is no service for drinks (pick up at the counter). The elevated location offers a beautiful view over the Rhine to Cologne-Mülheim. Most places offer pleasant shade when the sun is beating down. For me, this is a location I cycle to repeatedly on hot days.

Ok, if you value great chairs, you're in the wrong place here, but I love this slightly morbid charm and the casual atmosphere.

Leider war meine Krakauer Wurst nur von einer Seite leicht angebräunt, von innen noch kalt, jedoch der Biergarten an sich super toll.

Das Ambiente ist unschlagbar! Wirklich netter, uriger Biergarten mit Blick auf den Rhein. Das Essen ist für einen Biergarten total in Ordnung und die Preise sind auch okay. Aber darauf kommt es in diesem Fall gar nicht an. Perfekt für laue Sommerabende am Rhein mit Freunden oder mit der Familie. Dazu ein leckeres Hellers. Besser geht nicht...😉

Einer der schönsten Biergärten Kölns mit leider sehr mäßigem Essen. Selbst zur Tomatenhochsaison finden sich selbige geschmacksneutral und hellrot im lieblos angerichteten Eisbergsalat. Mit 4 Würfeln Schafskäse für 12 Euro wirklich überteuert. Für all das entschädigt das Urlaubsflair auf der großen Terrasse mit Rheinblick.

Sehr netter Biergarten im Grünen unmittelbar zum Rhein mit Selbstbedienung. Freundliches zügiges Personal und leckere Kuchen! Immer mal wieder gerne :)

Schöne Lage mir viel Grün und Rheinnähe! Bier war lecker… vom vom Salat mit Schafskäse waren wir enttäuscht. 90 % Eisbergsalat… Etwas Gurke und Paprika… Schafskäseportion war ok, aber für 12,50 € 🫤… es gibt so viele tolle Blattsalate und ausgefallene Dressings…. da ist definitiv noch Luft nach oben. Auf ein Bier kommen wir gerne nochmal… Essen eher nicht.

Der Wirt an der Getränkeausgabe ist absolut stoffelig und nicht gerade freundlich. Statt jeden Gast Willkommen zu heißen, fühlt man sich fehl am Platz. Das müsste nicht sein. Essen war okay,aber eben auch 08/15. Kuchen lecker,so wie man Käsekuchen oder Kirschstreusel letztlich erwartet. Bedienung sonst am Tisch okay. Was sich lohnt ist einfach die Umgebung.

Diesen Biergarten sollte jeder Kölnbesucher im Sommer aufsuchen. Hier passt Angebot, Atmo, Publikum und Lage 🙂

War jahrelang ein Ablaufpunkt um den Abend nach einer Radtour ausklingen zu lassen. Aber: Qualität und Menge der Speisen haben sich deutlich verschlechtert, obwohl die Preise kräftig angezogen haben. Gläser sind nicht immer sauber. Hatten schon öfter Lippenstiftreste am Glas... Ambiente hat sich auch verschlechtert: Die Stühle und Tische der Gastronomie wurden vor 15 Jagen wohl zum letzten Mal angestrichen und werden wohl nur 1x Jahr feucht abgewischt. Wenn regnet vielleicht häufiger😜

Toller Biergarten direkt am Rhein. Preise sind noch moderat. Man holt sich die Getränke selbst. Speisen werden an den Tisch gebracht. Super Aussicht.

Die Lage mit Blick auf den Rhein, an schattigen Plätzchen ist genial. Das Essen ist einfach aber gut und günstig. Bei den Getränken bleiben keine Wünsche offen. Getränke holt man sich selber aber Essen wird an den Tisch gebracht. Geht alles schnell!

Hier ist echt viel los. Nebenan der Spielplatz macht es für Familien interessant.

Wir waren enttäuscht, hatten wir doch die relativ guten Rezensionen gesehen. Leider war das Schnitzel völlig trocken, die Portionen eher klein. Im Vergleich zu anderen Lokalitäten ist das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis eher befriedigend. Da kann auch der nette Biergarten nicht viel rausreißen, unterm Strich nur 2-3 Sterne. Schade, wir wollten dort eigentlich noch öfter hin, liegt er doch gleich neben dem Womo-Stellplatz, aber lieber kein 2. Mal.

Sehr schöner Biergarten direkt am Rhein. Selbstbedienung Getränke,aber das macht Sinn. Keine langen Wartezeiten. Essen wird zügig gebracht und ist ausreichend und lecker,bei zivilen Preisen. Gerne wieder.

Das Restaurant hat Charme und ist schön gelegen, allerdings sind die Bedienungen nicht allzu freundlich und die Toiletten sind in einem maroden Zustand 🤷🏼‍♀️🙃

Lage und Vielfalt der Gäste Top. Doch ist die Lage alleine und vor allem, sind die Gäste kein Kriterium für eine Bewertung. Das Ambiente zum Rhein hin ist wirklich soweit schön, wenn auch verbesserunswürdig. Das Ambiente zum Spielplatz (ehemaliges Freibad) hin ist eine Frechheit. Man könnte meinen, Familien mit Kindern gehören hier bewusst in die Holzklasse, um es freundlich auszudrücken. Das warme Essen war soweit OK, die Salate waren für die Preisklasse auch eine Frechheit, da absolut lieblos. Getränke werden ebenso lieblos bereitet. Was aber überhaupt nicht geht, ist dieser Patriarch als Chef. Erst bekommt man mit, wie er vor den Kunden seine Mitarbeiter mehrfach anschreit und maßregelt, dann ist er Kunden gegenüber unhöflich und überheblich. Auf Beschwerden reagiert er mit (O-Ton): "MIR SCH.... EGAL" Hier sind wir ganz sicher nicht noch einmal, aber das ist diesem Herrn sicher sch.... egal!

Schöner Biergarten mit toller Lage zwischen Rhein und Park. Speisen waren lecker und die Preise un Ordnung. Getränke werden in Selbstbedienung geholt. Das Essen an der Theke bestellt und dann zum Tisch gebracht. Putenbrustsalat war (dem Vernehmen nach) sehr lecker. Ebenso das Chili 🌶️ con Carne. Dieses hatte eine mittlere Schärfe. Für mich gerade noch ok, aber für meine Kinder wäre das zu scharf gewesen. Aber für die gibt es ja auch viele Alternativen auf der Karte. Was fehlt zu 5 Sternen: Bei Regen oder Schlechtwetter gibt es keine echte Indoor-Option. Parken kann man kostenlos am Parkplatz 🅿️ vor der Auffahrt zur Mühlheimer Brücke. Schöner ist allerdings die Anreise per Rad oder schönem Rhein-Spaziergang.

Biergarten mit schönem Blick auf den Rhein von der einen Seite aus. Ich bin ja ein großer Freund der Barzahlung, aber ausgerechnet an diesem Abend hatte ich nicht mehr genügend Bargeld dabei Punkt von daher musste es für mich dort leider bei einem Bier ohne Essen bleiben. Das muss man halt einfach wissen. Dieses Bier war dann allerdings auch so wie auf dem Oktoberfest, also nur zu Dreiviertel, eingeschenkt. Da war wohl gerade die Schlange hinter mir zu lang.

Getränke und Essen muss man selber holen. Es kommt was in die Zeit. Man kann hier sehr schön sitzen

Ein netter Rastplatz während eines Ausflugs. Schön zum draußen sitzen bei schönem Wetter direkt in der Rheinanlage. Selfservice ging schnell. Essen würde sehr schnell gebracht, zu schnell für erwartetes, frisch bereitest Essen. Leider nur aufgewärmtes Essen und einen durchschnittlichen Salat. Geschmacklich eher neutral. Getränkeauswahl gut.
