Very inattentive and unfriendly. We ordered coffee, but the comb had a dirty lid. They informed the service and said, "Oh, yes, that's common here." They didn't even give us a new coffee, they just replaced the lid. Not recommended, and too expensive.

I'm not really a big fan of chocolate cake, but this chocolate caramel cake is simply sinfully good! The combination of moist chocolate batter and creamy caramel is perfectly balanced, making every bite a little moment of indulgence.

Cake from a jar... sorry... reminds me of baby food jars... not for me, no matter how it tastes. What's wrong with plates?

Everything was only bottled in jars. Whether it was cake or currywurst. No service, you had to pick everything up from the cart. It wasn't for us.

Thanks to Augusta, the Flora has become established on the terrace of the Festhaus. Previously, there was a large café in the Festhaus. You could sit either inside or on the spacious terrace, which was partially shaded by huge old trees. The park dates back to the mid-19th century. It is the Botanical Garden of the City of Cologne, not far from the zoo. It is therefore a center for weekend family outings and leisure activities for Cologne residents and tourists. Unfortunately, the café closed many years ago, for reasons unknown to me. In Cologne, it is traditional for particularly attractive properties to remain vacant and unused for years. Examples of this are the Bastei, the TV Tower, and the Messeturm. The Flora is a gem for any urban park restaurant. However, the building needed to be renovated and made suitable for larger and more modern events. So, a renovation was carried out – very successful – without destroying the character of the building. But from then on, there was no longer a café. Instead, a food cart was placed on the terrace, so that the shady part under the old trees could no longer be used. The cart blocked off the area. Chairs and tables (made of metal) were now only available on the unshaded parts of the terrace. This was unbearable in the summer. And you now had to provide the service yourself. Self-service is a somewhat euphemistic term... so much for outstanding hospitality... You first stand in a long line, possibly in the blazing sun, in front of the food cart to fill your "picnic basket": a euphemism for "You carry everything to the table yourself, and to make sure it works, you're given a hard plastic shopping bag in which you can put drinks and cutlery, glasses, or cake." Most tables are too small for trays. Hence the "picnic basket," which you can also place on the floor... The selection during my visit was rather modest, and everything was extremely expensive. Small jars of salad. Pretty and aesthetic, but tiny portions. I did it once and then never again. I wistfully thought of the wonderful afternoons I spent with my girlfriend under old trees, enjoying delicious plum cake, freshly made ice cream sundaes, and good coffee. Even though the service was always a bit slow back then. But it was there. And, as far as I remember, there were reliable opening hours, and it was also available during the week. I'm very sad that concepts like "Dank Augusta's" are spreading everywhere. They serve to save on staff. That's certainly an economic factor that has an impact. But they bring little benefit to the guest. The profit is higher when the guest handles the service themselves, and the prices are still high. So I can't join in the praise. The Flora is a great place, but that's not Dank Auguista's merit. They only benefit from the fact that, unfortunately, there seems to be no awareness in Cologne that good outdoor dining is more than a self-service concept like in a cafeteria, just not with the added benefit of being less expensive.

When I'm at Flora, I'm always thrilled when Dank Augusta is open. I love sitting there and enjoying something delicious to eat or just a good coffee. I've tried quite a few salads, meat dishes, and the amazing cakes, and everything is delicious.

A super nice location, I'm happy to wait a bit longer for my order. It was also super easy to order online. The prices are a bit high, but still okay (the pretzel wasn't that fresh). The concept of the little glasses and basket is simply great and cozy!

Out and about in my old neighborhood again. And made a quick stop at my favorite café. Enjoying a delicious chocolate caramel cake and a cappuccino in the sun. I hope summer sticks around a little longer so I can enjoy it more often.

You can sit on the terrace with a nice view. Considering it's self-service, it's expensive. I didn't think the cappuccino I had was good. I'm sure it contained either UHT or canned milk. Definitely not fresh milk. It also didn't have the typical cappuccino flavor, but tasted more like coffee with milk. Very disappointing. I later had a cappuccino at Backwerk, which was not only cheaper but also significantly better. My two companions, however, had no complaints.

I've been here several times because it's just so beautiful, especially during the week when it's not so crowded. Very cozy amidst the flora. Great concept with picnic bags that can hold anything your heart desires. They serve soups, salads, and cakes in glass jars. All delicious. It's not exactly cheap, but I think it's worth the money.

We visited this café for the first time today and were very impressed by the concept. It's really well thought out and offers a wide selection of cakes in a jar, vegetarian salads, and savory dishes. Everything was incredibly delicious! Ordering is very easy: You can pick up your food at the kiosk or order conveniently from your table using a QR code. Although it was raining during our visit, the atmosphere was still fantastic. The café staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. They were constantly busy keeping the terrace clean and providing blankets for guests. Overall, we had a wonderful visit and are looking forward to returning soon.

I haven't tried everything yet, but so far everything has been absolutely delicious. I also love the drinks selection, which offers something a little different from the usual. Vanessa served us warmly and attentively, was incredibly personable, and had a great sense of what you need without being intrusive. 🍃 The food was fresh, delicious, and simply comforting, accompanied by a glass of wine spritzer and a slice of cheesecake... perfect! We love coming here; you can relax with the beautiful view. The food is delicious, especially the cheesecake in a glass, which is to die for. And the terrace manager with the beautiful, big eyes gave us a friendly welcome; you rarely see such a nice lady who loves her job. We will definitely recommend it, and we'll definitely be back.

Last Saturday, we went to the beautiful garden restaurant "Dank Augusta" with some friends. The ambiance is truly unique and unparalleled in Cologne. The view of the Botanical Garden and the atmospheric water feature in the entrance area create a very special atmosphere. Dank Augusta impresses with its culinary offerings, featuring creative recipes and charming picnic options. The dishes are prepared fresh daily, according to the restaurant – and you can taste it! From a selection of vegetarian delicacies, incredibly delicious desserts, and hearty meat dishes, you can put together a wonderfully varied menu to share with a group. We'll definitely be back!

Super location, but prices are like those of the inflationary era of the last century. A wonderful money-printing machine for owners.

Beautiful ambience (Cologne can be so romantic 😳...), a spacious and pleasant terrace, a relaxed family atmosphere and an innovative and convincing gastronomic concept.

Unfortunately, it was a disappointment: According to Google, it was supposed to be open until 8 p.m. I arrived at 7:40 p.m., but it was already closed. When I asked, I was rudely turned away. That's not how you treat guests.

Fun idea! Picnic at the park without having to pack it yourself and sit on a lawn. Had the kartoffel salat, kartoffel brochen, bretzel and beverages. Simple and perfect.

The location is great, with a lovely view of the garden. You can order food and drinks online, and it was quick. Prices aren't cheap, but they're reasonable for Cologne.

In such an attractive setting as the Flora and Botanical Gardens in Cologne, I would not have expected such lack of style and unfriendliness towards guests. You can either request something via QR code, which is complicated and also requires you to already be a Facebook member, or you have to queue at various checkouts. Two elderly ladies sitting next to me were so disappointed by these options that they got up again and went to a café in downtown Cologne, which I could understand only too well. Since I had traveled from Düsseldorf by public transport in extremely hot temperatures and desperately wanted something to drink in the heat, I had no alternative. At the checkout where I stood in line, to my horror, an organic tea and a bottle of mineral water were placed in a small plastic bag while I was paying. I had never experienced anything so tasteless before. My complaint was promptly countered by the fact that this was the system, and it was very well received. I didn't even receive my tea in a pot or even a cup, but in an unidentifiable reusable container. On the table where I sat, there was also a plastic bag containing glass bottles from the people before me. Furthermore, the wilted flowers should have been thrown away long ago. The staff I spoke to were consistently unfriendly and reserved. No one seemed to feel responsible for wiping the tables or even clearing anything. Two more stars just for the rather pleasant ambiance and the view... PS: Cake is only served in a glass jar. 😧 ---------------------------- As of May 1, 2025

Although a bit pricey, I really enjoyed sitting here and enjoying my coffee. Ordering via QR code works perfectly, and the delivery comes in beautiful baskets. I find the chairs really comfortable, and the ice cream is incredibly delicious!

Great location, but no service at the table. The QR codes also didn't work. That said, easy enough to get it yourself and enjoy the goodness in a green space.

Great atmosphere. There were three people ahead of us in the order line. Apparently, three or four customers are too complicated for the young man. He repeatedly tried to send us to another checkout, even when it was our turn. His explanation was, "There was no business at the other booth." Outside, the line was much longer. And after we pointed out to him that he had forgotten one item in an order for three items, he became very rude and shouted something (which, fortunately, I didn't understand). Many thanks to the Augusta team, please take a look at your staff. It's an absolute disgrace! The cake and coffee were delicious, though. We'd be happy to come back, but we hope that this employee isn't there.

There are very confusing signs in the botanical garden indicating how to get to the restaurant. After walking around three times and finally finding it, chains hang there, and it's closed, even though the signs everywhere said it was open. A glance at the current map hanging outside, however, revealed that not visiting was no loss in this case.

It's actually always nice there, but I haven't been since they discontinued the chocolate caramel cake. It was my favorite cake. 😓

A beautifully located restaurant with an original concept (food and drinks are brought to your table in large glasses in a picnic basket). I had a delicious salad, but the chocolate caramel cream cake was unbeatable! For that alone, Dank Augusta gets 5 stars from me.

You get your order in a basket and can picnic in the entire Flora wherever you want or directly on site at the table and chair in the great idea with a lot of fun😀 that we tried. The dishes were all very tasty. So top recommendation!

I love the relaxed atmosphere on the terrace surrounded by greenery. Here you have exactly the mix you want: delicious food, fair price, sustainable concept and everything beautifully furnished. What I particularly like: the price-performance ratio is right. You get really tasty, home-made food in good portions. No overpriced hipster food, just delicious dishes that fill you up. And the choice is large: various salads, hot and cold dishes and lots of delicious cakes. The concept is as simple as it is well thought out: the food - including the cakes - is available in reusable glasses, the porcelain cups come with lids (finally the coffee stays hot for longer!) and even the practical picnic bags that you can get at the kiosk are sustainable. Totally charming and cleverly made. Ordering is also possible digitally using a QR code at the table. You simply scan, select and pay easily with PayPal. No waiting, no queuing. In this place you can have a good time - in a large group or just alone for a coffee with a chocolate-caramel cake. I'll treat myself to that more often this summer.

A really nice restaurant in the middle of the botanical garden. It is easily accessible by public transport and the zoo is in the immediate vicinity. The team on site really puts in a lot of effort and is super friendly. It is even open on public holidays and despite the heat on May 1st the staff was quick, friendly and helpful. Great! I can highly recommend the apple pie, it tastes “like grandma made”. There is only seating outside, which is made clear by the name “Garden Bar”. When it rains (and heat) you can easily find shelter under the large umbrellas, which are opened by the staff. The concept of “picnic baskets” is unusual and refreshing. A return visit is already planned. <3

A very interesting concept! There are many savory warm and cold as well as sweet snacks in glasses, e.g. salads, currywurst, American cheesecake etc. There is also an extensive range of drinks. You get your order packed in a bag and can take it with you to the table. From the terrace you have a wonderful view of the park. The park and the restaurant are close to the zoo and a real tip if - like us - you don't find the zoo's restaurants appealing at all.

We were there again today! ☺️ Simply wonderful! Self-service, but you don't have to wait too long in line and the young lady behind the counter today was very friendly, courteous and quick. My daughter loves the American cheesecake and the 🍋 ice cream. The potato salad was also very delicate. The baskets are a great solution for transporting drinks and delicacies. 2 nice girls made sure that all the tables stayed clean and tidy. Great concept! 🤩

We were there last weekend, and it was already very crowded. It was the first beautiful spring day of the year, and the whole of Cologne and the surrounding area seemed to be there. With such a great view, that's more than understandable. The lines at the counter looked worse than they were. The staff were young, friendly, and generally quick. We had to wait about 10 minutes, which we thought was fine. In the meantime, my wife easily found a seat with a wonderful view. We had a pasta salad in a glass (it seemed rather small at first, but turned out to be a good portion), which was very tasty and fresh, and a goulash with a lot of meat. We also had a cappuccino and cheesecake in a glass (unusual but absolutely delicious). We were completely satisfied; a beautiful spot.

The botanical garden/flora is beautiful especially towards spring! When the weather was nice, we sat down in the garden restaurant to enjoy the sun. It's really nicely made, but really outrageous prices as far as aperitivos like Aperol Spritz go. Self-service or walking to the stand is completely fine, but then asking for an Aperol for €9.80, which you don't even prepare yourself, but comes already mixed in a bottle. The Aperol is made with white wine instead of Prosecco and without ice cubes. Paying almost €10 for that is really steep. Too bad...

A very beautiful place (like Flora and botanical gardens in general), food and drink were always very tasty. Staff friendly. Especially on weekends and when the weather is nice, it can sometimes be a bit crowded and then you occasionally realize that there are limits in the catering industry if you still want to offer good service. Overall, of course, a clear recommendation!

45 min waiting time for table service for drinks and food. Many foods and drinks are not available at all. Food in glasses was still hot but unfortunately the taste and quality were not very good. Nice idea, bad implementation. The ambience is convincing, but you sit at plastic tables and chairs, you could get a lot more out of it here. Employees are nice and try their best, but they can't help it because of the organization of the store. It was okay once, but won't be repeated.

Anyone who is here in the park should definitely stop by. The food and drinks can be purchased and consumed as a picnic. The view of the park also gives the whole thing a nice atmosphere.

A beautiful garden restaurant in the middle of the flora. As has often been described, the concept of self-service and the special presentation form give it a picnic feeling. There are all sorts of delicious things, I've already tried a lot of them, in the glass and there's also a very successful and wide selection of drinks. It leaves nothing to be desired and is still special. Both the salads and classics have a real kick and are excellent. The desserts and cakes are also worth trying. So to speak, a luxury picnic in a great ambience. I feel very comfortable here and have often enjoyed the good food and delicious drinks. Nice staff, beautiful furniture and well-kept gastronomy make it a really great experience here. Thanks! I'll definitely come back.

The restaurant is a great place to spend some time out, regardless of whether you want to protect yourself from the rain or are looking for shade. You order from a food truck and take your order with you in a small picnic bag - a very nice concept! We also found the cakes and tarts in jars original (and delicious!) as we had never heard of anything like that before.

Sunny Sunday -- thank Goddess -- not too crowded thanks to Augusta. More comfortable 2 table with metal chairs. I send Fetch my friend for food and drinks and look at the other guests. Very tasty Kraft 🍺 and the currywurst in a glass is very good/the potato salad Also, the view of the bot garden is unique. Whenever possible, I went there with my visit. All in all: definitely go Recommend and much cheaper than the zoo next door.

I LOVE the food, the atmosphere and did I say it? - exactly, the food! We come here as often as we can in the summer and enjoy Sunday afternoons under the parasol with a picnic at Dank Augusta. One of the most beautiful and relaxed places in all of Cologne💓

I would give the whole thing 5 points because of the concept, quality etc. but if I have to pay €18.40 for 2 meatballs, a small salad in a glass and a juice spritzer, unfortunately I can't do that. I'm happy to pay and even go along with it if they say everything has become more expensive, but that's a rip-off and is disproportionate! Especially if you know what kind of company is behind the catering.

If you are around Cologne and want to chill under the sun with a beer or a coffee, this is your place. The staff is lovely, the views are amazing and they give you a basket with your food so you can go anywhere in the park to have a picnic. Amazing experience!
