We request 2 plates to share the food and at the same time we point our plate to the waiter because they seem like they don't know English. But he sends us bread, we immediately reject it without touching it. And explain again for plates, finally we got 2 plates. But the moment we pay, they asked us to pay for bread, we said that we didn't order it and even rejected it when the waiter sent it. Then the waitress deleted the bread piece but asked us to pay for 2 plates. Is it racism due to us not being German and playing tricks like this to rip off tourists? I paid 4 euros, not two US dollars! So you charged an additional service fee without informing us?? That's fraud, right? Also, you crossed out something we didn't order and wrote down your additional charge of 4 euros instead – isn't this behavior very strange and outrageous? This is really a very dishonest merchant!

This is a true story! A weekend vacation with friends in Monschau! We explored the town on Friday, stopped in for a drink, and had a delicious meal at "Hüftgold"! Saturday was supposed to go pretty much the same way! Ouch, fatal mistake! The goal was to have dinner in sunny weather and warm temperatures at an outdoor restaurant near the Rur River! The restaurant "Zum Stern" seemed suitable (Google review 4.1 (???)), so we took a table and waited for what was to come! The "first" server had only a rudimentary grasp of the German language; the word "Bier" was understood, but the number only with the help of a raised hand with three outstretched fingers! It got more difficult with "Bitte ein Radler" (Please, a Radler) with an outstretched finger! Phew, we made it! A previous question about which draft beer was being served was ignored with questioning eyes. A subsequent shoulder roll on my part, with eye contact with a "Warsteiner" decoy, provided the answer. I can drink a bad Warsteiner at home, not a regional German beer, not even in bottles, unlike the "hüftgold" (hip gold)! But back to the story! Two minutes later, a second server with good German skills came and took our food order: Hawaiian schnitzel, Monschau schnitzel, knuckle of pork with sauerkraut, and paprika schnitzel with poultry instead of pork! Two question marks on their foreheads! "Poultry instead of pork!" Ah, just one more question mark, so slow down! "Poultry instead of pork!" "Chicken?" "Yes, chicken!" Done, everything will be fine now! The food arrives, the drinks are missing! A "third" server appears, but understands us very poorly! "Drinks aren't here yet!" "Huh?" "No beer, order!" "Ah, girl, crazy in the head, get some beer!" The drinks arrive while we're eating! The food doesn't taste very good! Knuckle of pork with wobbly rind; mashed potatoes from a bag; Monschau sauce with (Monschau (?)) mustard, stirred into a packet of sauce; all dishes cold to warm instead of hot! Sending everything back? No! No, that was a mistake, but we wanted to pay as quickly as possible and leave! The "second" server comes by, "We'd like to pay!" "Was it delicious?" "Hmm, um...!" If we list everything now, it's midnight! "To call this lettuce leaf decoration on the plate a salad plate is downright outrageous!" "Didn't you get any bowls?" "No!" We adjusted the bill and quickly left! The subsequent evening of board games with lots of laughter was terrific!

Great service! Friendly people. I didn't have a particularly good meal here, though. I ordered pasta olio, a spicy pasta with peppers and garlic. I was practically eating spaghetti without sauce, soaked in oil. Not that the food was terrible; I was full, but I can't say I got my money's worth. It's also a shame you couldn't pay by card.

I had the seafood pasta, which was delicious. My girlfriend had the spicy pasta, which wasn't very good and was mostly oily. The atmosphere is good, though.

We were there for lunch. The welcome inside was friendly, and the assigned table and surroundings were clean. The food, Jägerschnitzel and fries with a side salad, was delicious and fresh. The portions were sufficiently large and filling and were attractively served with fries baskets and vegetable garnish. The two young ladies serving were consistently friendly and asked about our satisfaction. This made up for the somewhat longer wait for the food.

The experience was okay overall, but I wouldn’t return. We arrived at 11:45 and were told the kitchen would open in 20 minutes, which was fine. Unfortunately, it ended up taking nearly an hour before anyone came to take our order. We asked for still water but received sparkling instead. I suspect this may have been a language misunderstanding since the waitress isn’t German and German naming of water is kinda confusing, so I don’t place full blame on the waitress. The food itself was disappointing, the quality and portion sizes did not match the high prices. To make matters worse, when it came time to pay, the restaurant only accepts cash, which is absurd in 2025. On top of that, the bill was wrong. In short, service was slow, the food poor value, and the payment process inconvenient.

The location of the restaurant is nice but they have horrible service. They served us in dirty dish with stains and there was hair inside our food. This is simply unaccapteble. Unfortunately, my visit to this restaurant was a bitter disappointment. As soon as I entered, I was struck by the unkempt appearance of the place – dirty floors, dusty windows. The absolute low point, however, were the restrooms: They were in a terrible state – dirty, smelly, and seemingly uncleaned for days. Such hygiene conditions are simply unacceptable and reflect poorly on the entire restaurant. The food, unfortunately, couldn't save it either. I was particularly impressed by the mashed potatoes – bland in taste, watery, and more like wallpaper paste in consistency. It seemed anything but fresh or homemade. Overall, this visit was a disappointment. I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone who values ​​cleanliness and good food. It's a shame, because from the outside, it looks like a beautiful place.

The restaurant staff are very unfriendly. You can't pay by card for amounts under 20 euros, and you're sent to the bank to withdraw money and then pay cash. They say you can't order food after 8:00 PM, even though other tables could still order. They then give you a drink you didn't order, but they corrected this error. But if you try to pay by card for amounts under 20 euros, they snap at you that you're the second person to ask. Either you have to order something else to bring your total over 20 euros, or go to the bank and pay cash. We won't be going there again.

Hello, I went there around 3:00 p.m. to ask if it was possible to reserve a table for 7:00 p.m. The people speak Spanish, I was very surprised in Germany. I used Google Translate. They said OK, take note of my reservation. Arriving at the restaurant at 6:50 p.m., we waited in front of the entrance. Several waiters walked past us without greeting us, only to finally tell us they were full, no seats. I said I reserved a table earlier, and they didn't listen to me and repeated "full, full, full" several times. We left very disappointed because the setting is magnificent. It was a Monday, many restaurants were closed, and the ones that remained were full, which is understandable. We ended up at McDonald's.

Beautiful location, the food was okay, but the service: terrible!!! Especially that one Spanish waiter. They can't handle the crowds, are rude/impolite, don't make eye contact, and orders were constantly getting wrong. They make customers wait unnecessarily long, so most of them just leave. A disaster. 2 Koffie en 2 appelgebak besteld. Koffie was ok . 1 Appelgebak kwam 10 min daarna en was niet goed gaar. Andere appelgebak was vergeten maar zou na 1 min komen? Kwam pas na circa 15 min en was niet gaar. Ober vroeg of het lekker was, eerlijk antwoord was nee. Meegenomen en 1 appelgebak stond niet op de rekening, dat was nog gelukkig positief. Niet gevraagd of we een nieuwe wilde of iets anders. Na tijdje gevraagd om te betalen, rekening kwam niet. Aan andere ober gevraagd om te betalen die niks te doen had en antwoord: ja, 1 minuutje. Vreselijke ervaring, vergeten van te voren op TripAdvisor te kijken anders hadden we al aan de recensies kunnen zien dat we daar niet hadden moeten gaan zitten.

Wir waren spontan zum Abendessen dort. Leider war das Essen wirklich schlecht. Die Schnitzel waren lauwarm, die Pommes fast noch roh. Geschmacklich war alles eine Katastrophe. Die Spaghetti Bolognese waren völlig geschmacklos und wurden auf einem schmutzigen Teller serviert. Auch die Servietten waren unsauber. Eine Reklamation am Tisch war nicht möglich, da das Servicepersonal zwar bemüht war, aber die sprachliche Hürde zu groß war. Wir haben versucht, an der Theke zu reklamieren. Dort wurde uns lapidar erklärt, dass es neues Küchenpersonal gebe – und dieses eben sehr schlecht sei. In Summe: ein absoluter Reinfall.

Ho chiesto del pane e mi sono stati serviti tre pezzi di pane duro e riscaldato, davvero immangiabile. Per principio ho chiesto di toglierlo dal conto (anche se costava solo 1,50€) perché trovo assurdo far pagare per un prodotto simile. Il s'agit plutôt d'une soupe tomate bien industrielle avec ce goût chimique et addictif très présent. - assiette 1 : Viande carbonisée, purée qui ressemble nullement à de la purée (poudre + lait?) tant au niveau du goût que de la texture. Qualité sous-marque du supermarché et aucun effort pour rendre cuisiner et servir cela correctement. - assiette 2 : Salade iceberg, olives sèches, carottes qui n'ont probablement même pas été râpées sur place,... grande masse de vinaigrette pour masquer les produits qui ne sont probablement pas frais et de sous-marque. - desserts: nous avions très envie de prendre une désert mais ayant été tellement déçus par la cuisine, nous n'avons pas osé en commander.

We visited the restaurant, but it was rather disappointing. The staff didn't understand you and seemed overwhelmed, the drinks were still sparkling, and the food wasn't great and there was very little of it. A shame... The manager, who came later, was friendly, but she still needs training and trust in the staff. Card payments are only accepted when the manager is in the building, which is also a bit odd.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this restaurant at all. The salad wasn't washed properly, and it had insects and dirt. They still charged full price and didn't offer a replacement. Service was very slow and poorly organized.

I can't comment on the hotel. You should avoid the restaurant. The atmosphere isn't appealing, nor is the food tasty or of good quality. I doubt there's a trained chef behind the stove here. The soft drinks have little to no carbonation. They probably come from 1.5-liter disposable bottles from a discount store. Everything seems dingy.

We ate a breaded pork escalope with mushroom sauce and a pasta bake. It was good and plentiful, and the waiters were friendly. The only downside was that we asked for bread, which was only served at the end, but it wasn't included in the bill. The location is ideal, and it remains one of the best in Monschau.

I've rarely experienced such friendly service in a restaurant! Even though ice cream wasn't on the menu, they conjured up two delicious sundaes with fresh fruit. And at a great price. Thanks for the flexibility and friendliness 😀

You can...but you don't have to. There are much better restaurants in Monschau. Our schnitzel was probably just pressed meat, the asparagus looked like it had just come out of a jar, and I don't even want to think about the greasy fingerprints on the glasses.

Horrible place. Unfriendly, disinterested waiter who barely spoke German. Requests for salt or pepper took several attempts to be successful. The schnitzel was pressed meat smothered in mustard sauce from a packet, with a small portion of unsalted fries. Then, the craziest part: The waiter spilled a full glass of beer on me and a friend. No apology, no free shot, or any similar gesture. We were handed napkins and were allowed to wipe the table ourselves. At least I didn't have to pay for my two beers. Contrary to what was stated, card payments are possible, but only with great effort. Separate bills are not issued, however; you should work it out yourself using the large bill. Absolutely outrageous, I'll never come here again.

I would like to have reviewed the food from this restaurant, but as my wife and I were refused an indoor table I can't. When there are plenty of empty tables inside a restaurant, and you are told you have to sit outside with all the disgusting cigarette smoke blowing into your face, it's extremely unprofessional and unexceptable. I'm an asthmatic, and with a lot of asthmatics, cigarette smoke can trigger an attack. This has happened to us in other German restaurants and it should not happen.

We had dinner at the restaurant yesterday. Very attractive outside, but time seems to have stood still inside. The spiders inside the windows liked it. We sat inside and were looking forward to delicious food. Unfortunately we were disappointed. Three very small mini pieces of pork medallion, 3 (!!!) sticks of asparagus drowned in hollandaise plus a handful of fries for just under 25 euros - you have to bring that first!!! There was a lot of room for improvement in terms of taste, not to mention “getting full”. The service was also rather poor for a restaurant: a side salad was not brought after being asked twice. One meal had an “accident” and only arrived when everyone else was almost finished. It can happen, but the waiter should explain the mishap to the guest in a way that makes them feel valued. Last but not least, it was cleared away, even though some people at the table hadn't finished eating yet. When we were approached by the service staff, we got an eye roll... Conclusion: We wouldn't go there again. A lot of money spent on little and bland food.
