Restaurant frequented by 2 at lunchtime with a starter, main course, and dessert menu for less than €25 per person, excluding drinks. Beautiful arugula and young shoot salad, goat cheese, almonds, tomato, grapes, honey vinaigrette. Then fries, sweet mustard schnitzel, ice cream or coffee (2 coffees chosen) + 1 Altbier 50 cl and 1 Coca Cola. All for €60.40. Discreet but helpful staff. Ideal location on the other side of the Rur. Cash payment only as indicated. Clean, beautiful, rustic, and romantic.

I've rarely seen anything so bad. For one thing, we waited almost 30 minutes for our drink. When the food came, it was cold, the schnitzel was raw and there was hair in the salad. We had to ask several times for cutlery and side dishes. Really unbearable for a restaurant in the city center of a tourist town on a sunny Saturday. Never again!

We ate this afternoon with my husband. Deplorable service. Slow, sighing waiter... no cutlery... or even the next table for that matter. Content worthy of a canteen without taste or flavors. Pleasant location, only positive point.

So the location of the restaurant is great, there's a large terrace outside right on the river, feeling like you're in the south. Unfortunately I can't say anything positive about the service or the quality of the food. The service staff is very uncoordinated, untrained and can only speak German very poorly. I ordered a latte machiato and received a coffee cup with milk. The apple strudel with cream and ice cream I ordered also didn't meet my expectations, it tasted like a ready meal. I say there is still a lot of room for improvement. Very unfortunate.

We ordered the drinks, they didn't come. Went back to recommend the drinks. They don't come. The server changes. We recommend the drinks and food. We have a "local specialty" of sauerkraut and a schnitzel. The dishes arrive, no cutlery at the table, we have to wait, the dish is cold. The waiter sighs to give us the cutlery. The meal was tasteless, very poorly served and not at all cooked with worthy products. We ask for the bill. The waiter waits next to us to collect. We report the poor service and deplorable quality to him. The next table had to ask for cutlery for their soups. We had the impression of being inconvenient to spend a moment there. Never again.

Unfortunately the restaurant disappointed me.

We were only here to eat. The service was noticeably unfriendly and the portions were small for the prices. I returned my food because it was cold. After waiting for a while, I initially just received it back without the cold ingredients due to the language barrier with the English-speaking staff. After again pointing out the temperature problem, the entire meal was microwaved, lukewarm and mushy and returned by the waiter without comment. The taste was okay at best. The fries were really bad and completely unsalted. Salt was provided to us by the neighboring restaurant, which clearly felt sorry for us. I returned food for the first time in my life and the experience was really crazy.

The visit was very disappointing. We had to wait over 45 minutes for our food, the waiter was super unfriendly and the food was below average. The schnitzel was much too thin and drowned in sauce, the rump steak was so mixed that it was really hard to eat. We definitely won't eat there again. Some people left because no service came at all.

We really liked the restaurant “zum Stern”. We visited twice and each time we felt welcome here. The service is attentive, friendly and polite. We were served quickly and didn't have to wait. Cozy warm atmosphere. Relaxed music. The food is tasty, well prepared. You can't complain about the price. This restaurant has become our favorite in Monschau, always worth a visit. And it is right in the center, has a good location.

We did not stay at the hotel, but only had a bite to eat. The trout was very tasty! It has a nice location on the water, in the center of Monschau. Definitely recommended for a local dish with a beer! A point for improvement is to make the menu available in English, for example.

We didn't like the food, we had knuckle, and it didn't meet our expectations. As it happens, we ate half of the food and then complained when we paid. A big compliment to the operator here. We should have said something and we would have been offered something different. We didn't have to pay for our food. Everyone else in the restaurant seemed happy. 5 stars because of the operator's great service.

Our visit to this restaurant was very disappointing. Schnitzel from the deep fryer with thick mustard sauce and soggy fries. Salad with dressing from the bag. Never again. Every fast food place is better. The service did not respond to our criticism. We then got two Amaretto on the house. :-(

Disappointing food and unfriendly service – not recommended! I was at the Hotel zum Stern restaurant in Monschau today and was greeted by a bad-tempered waitress upon entering. No friendly greeting, no smile – just plain rude. Since I was hungry, I decided to stay anyway and ordered a beer and the mustard schnitzel with a side dish. The beer was actually the best part of my visit, even though the glass wasn't even properly filled. The small salad that was served beforehand tasted okay, but unfortunately had large chunks of stalk – that shouldn't happen in a restaurant. When the schnitzel arrived, I was extremely disappointed: a simple piece of meat with a careless mustard sauce smothered over it, with no decoration or presentation skills as portrayed online. The fries were unsalted and completely soggy – absolutely inedible. The worst part? The waitress apparently had no confidence in the food herself, because she didn't even ask if it tasted good. Conclusion: Absolutely disappointing! Terrible service, terrible food, and zero appreciation for the guests. I can't recommend this restaurant and definitely won't be returning.

Disappointment across the board – never again! Unfortunately I cannot give this restaurant a good rating at all. The service was poor and unfriendly, you didn't feel welcome from the start. No trace of hospitality or interest in the well-being of the guests. To eat: I ordered a baked schnitzel with ham, cheese and tomato sauce - a real disappointment! The tomato sauce was tasteless, just a red mush with no seasoning. The schnitzel itself was bland and completely carelessly prepared, the cheese was tough and hardly edible. The fries were also disappointing: unsalted, soggy and not even cooked properly. When I returned the food almost untouched, the waitress showed no interest in whether anything was wrong. No inquiry, no regrets – just ignorance. This restaurant is by far one of the worst I have ever visited. Neither quality nor taste is taken into account here. That has absolutely nothing to do with good food! Definitely not recommended.

Today we left for Monchau for the weekend. It is still low season. Fortunately, this hotel is open to eat a mega delicious rum steak. This made our day. You can also go here for a delicious Apperol. Super good food. Rum steak 250 gr.

We ate pork knuckle at this restaurant on our last trip to Monschau and were very impressed. That's why we came back just to eat there. The prices have increased significantly compared to last time, but in my opinion, they're justified, and the portions are also significantly larger. I couldn't finish my portion this time either, and my boyfriend couldn't take my portion either, even though he can eat a lot. So we asked the waiter to pack the food for us. Unfortunately, it wasn't until we were eating that I realized something had gone wrong with the packing: 1. The mashed potatoes were missing, and 2. There were leftovers from other guests in the sauerkraut (shrimp shells)! This kind of thing shouldn't happen at all, and for me, that's reason enough not to come back. Too bad :(

From a culinary point of view, it's a total failure. TK schnitzel fried with a pitiful mustard sauce sold for the same price as if it were freshly made. I can buy frozen food better there. Service only with the necessary friendliness, friendly demeanor and serving differently. Location is great and also very nice porcelain for the dishes. But we urgently need a new chef who enjoys his job.

Eigentlich eine ganz nette Location. Der Service war freundlich, das Essen kam schnell, das war es dann aber auch! Wir waren zu zweit, bei beiden Gerichten war das Pürree und Sauerkraut noch fast kalt und im Grunde völlig geschmacksneutral ausserdem Convenience! Es wurden zwar, mit Entschuldigung, direkt und freundlich zwei neu Gerichte serviert, die dann zumindest etwas wärmer waren aber immer noch nach nichts geschmeckt haben! Für diese Qualität dann auch noch diese Preise aufzurufen ist schon sehr ambitioniert! Unser Fazit einmal und nicht wieder

For thrill-seekers I can only recommend Monschau mustard on a bed of Schnitzel! Warning, sensitive souls refrain!!

The review only refers to the restaurant as we were not in the hotel. The restaurant itself makes a very cozy impression from the outside and is also quite attractive from the inside. What was immediately noticeable, however, was the (in our opinion) much too bright lighting inside, which seemed almost bright and not very atmospheric. But to the actual thing, food and service: The two waiters were quite friendly, but sometimes seemed a bit overwhelmed and overscheduled. Unfortunately the food was below average. I had ordered a so-called "Monschauer Senfschnitzel", which according to the menu should have been a schnitzel with mustard cream sauce and fries and a side salad. In the end, however, it was a schnitzel that was simply smeared thickly with regular mustard and that was it. To call something like that “cream mustard sauce” is misleading and to then charge a good €21 for it is almost cheeky. The fries were ok but only half cooked and the side salad was a bit bland. The quality of the food of my two companions was probably okay, but not significantly better. It's certainly not an extremely bad restaurant, but unfortunately the price-performance ratio is simply not right and there is still some room for improvement in terms of preparation/quality.

Delicious knuckle of good mustard and fast service

Great place, great hospitality, wonderful beers, sausage. We were with children and they gave us colored pencils to color. We had a great time, we will definitely be back.

We had dinner in the restaurant, it is highly recommended. The service is super friendly and the food is delicious and generous. They are also very child-friendly and my son was given a coloring book and crayons straight away so that he could keep himself busy. Thank you for the lovely evening

Were in Monschau and went here for dinner. The food was disastrous. Carpaccio was cut so thick that you couldn't chew it. Goulash soup tasted like a beef broth with mushrooms without meat. The knuckle was cold and mashed potatoes from the bag.

Bij aankomst stond de dweil emmer nog in de gang. We kregen een tafeltje bij de klapdeur waar het constant tochtte. Bij navraag een ander tafeltje gekregen. Brood met aioli was aangebrand. Na half uur nog geen drinken gekregen. Bij navraag zeer onaardig afgeblaft. Capaccio zeer dik en bijna niet door te kauwen. Cordon Blue was nog rauw. Toen we dit lieten zien pakte de bedoening het bord weg zonder iets te zeggen. Nog nooit zo een slecht restaurant meegemaakt.

If you want to enjoy snack food and atmosphere at high prices, this restaurant is the place to eat. The order was taken quickly and drinks AND food were on the table after just 10 minutes. This shows clearly that nothing was fresh. Frozen schnitzel, packet sauce and half-cooked fries... The male waitress doesn't understand German well, talks loudly with a colleague, runs back and forth and constantly slams a door. At the beginning of January, "Hardcore" Christmas music (Silent Night etc.) was still playing, but luckily this was changed later. It is also important to mention that NO card payment is possible, because only cash is real!

Nice location by the river. Kind service. Cuisine less than basic for the offered prices. Next time I would go to a restaurant. No english, no cash. Card payment is a common problem in Monschau so be prepared with some cash.

Were only in the restaurant. But service was really nice for us. 5 stars for that. The food was just ok but a little too expensive for the quality. And with tea it was just a cheap tea bag in too much water.

Great experience with the waiter named Mo, very friendly and helpful. We were in Monshau for a couple of days and really enjoyed this place. Food was very good and service was great. Had to try the Apple Strudle for desert, it was very big. Highly recommend!

We had dinner with our family in the restaurant the weekend after Christmas. It was cold outside, it was nice and warm inside. The food was tasty and not expensive. Service was good.

It's a shame I didn't read the reviews sooner: The waiter is very unprofessional, he shouts so loudly at his colleagues that it makes sitting uncomfortable. I also think that the waiter could be dressed more neatly. The staff speaks German very poorly. We waited almost an hour for the dish, which looked like it had been reheated from a can. The cutlery was dirty, the glasses too. They didn't clean the table we were sitting at, so I had to pick up the crumbs myself remove. In the end the waiter tried to give me back 10 euros less change under the pretext that he was confused. I wasn't full either, so I went to the next snack bar, where it was much better. If I could, I would give zero stars because one star is too many. Never again!!!

Außerdem finde ich, dass der Kellner gepflegter gekleidet sein könnte.Das Personal spricht sehr schlecht Deutsch. Wir warteten fast eine Stunde auf das Gericht, das aussah, als wäre es aus der Dose aufgewärmt worden.Das Besteck war schmutzig, auch die Gläser.Sie haben den Tisch, an dem wir saßen, nicht sauber gemacht, also musste ich die Krümel selbst entfernen. Am Ende versuchte der Kellner, mir 10 Euro weniger Wechselgeld zurückzugeben, unter dem Vorwand, er sei verwirrt. Satt bin ich auch nicht geworden, sodass ich danach zur nächsten Imbissbude gegangen bin, wo es deutlich besser war. Wenn ich könnte, würde ich null Sterne vergeben, denn ein Stern ist zu viel. Nie wieder!!!

We had dinner at the restaurant and it was delicious and the service was excellent. They were really kind and let us in right before the kitchen closed. The schnitzel with the mustard of Monechau & the schnitzel with mushroom sauce were both very good. As was the amazing glühwien! 😍 danke !

Schnitzel op een koud bord. Champignonsaus in een koude schaal. Zo is het eten snel afgekoeld. Salade niet vers maar reeds voorbereid uit de koeling. Kwaliteit van het eten was redelijk. Bediening daarentegen echt vreselijk. Chagrijn straalt het uit. Zoek ander werk en laat vriendelijk personeel het werk doen.

Went here for dinner. Food was ok, portions not as big as I am used to in Germany. Owner was rude, even served the plate of food on top of our snow hat. No thank you, asking if we were ok, etc. The Spanish waiter Mo made it a pleasant dinner after all. He was great, friendly, charming and helpful. Thank you Mo!

I can't rate the hotel, we were only guests in the restaurant. Unfortunately we cannot recommend this. The staff seems overwhelmed, it takes a long time until an order is taken (including drinks), other guests were no different. The sauce was out of the bag and the fries were 80% undercooked. Overall not a good price/performance ratio.

We came with a group and each ordered the “Monschauer Senfschnitzel” and Jägerschnitzel. The sauce on the mustard schnitzel was rather disappointing. It seemed to us as if cheap mustard from a bucket had been thickened with milk and starch and served on equally cheap schnitzel, with the price of the dish being €18.00. It would have been much better to use Monschauer Dijon mustard, as we all thought. The side salad was served after the main course was received and came with lettuce leaves and ready-made sauce that were definitely not that fresh. However, the staff was friendly and often asked about our well-being, hence the 3 stars. Unfortunately we wouldn't eat here again. It seems to me that it's more about making as much money as possible than offering really good food. You can do better! Nothing can be said about general hygiene as the sanitary facilities were not used.

Unfriendly service: The cosy place got impacted badly by the personnel. The spanish guy reacts not properly to the clients of the restaurant/hotel: Too loud, flirting or even arrogant and rude. Communication between them is by walkie talkie so that all the presents can enjoy their noise. Unbelievable..

We were there for lunch, impeccable service and perfectly fried schnitzel! We will come back.

Zeer bizarre plek, Spaans sprekende bediening die beetje Duits kan. Enkel cash geld, geen kaartbetaling wat wellicht onwettig is. Als je betaalt, draait de ober zich zeer ostentatief weg zodat hij denkt geen wisselgeld te moeten teruggeven. Als je toiletpapier vraagt, komt er een agressieve vrouw met papiertjes voor aan de lavabo aan, eerst scheldt ze toeristen uit die op ‘haar’ brug naar de ingang staan want ze moeten doorlopen en binnenkomen of weggaan… dan probeert ze met een mes de papierhouder aan de lavabo te openen, als dat niet lukt, zwiert ze er alles boos bovenop. Als je dan vraagt naar toiletpapier scheldt ze dat ze er wel mee zal komen om je gewoon te laten staan. Geen zeep of niks aan de lavabo dus hygiëne…? Voelt als een echte toerist trap. Bediening klaagt ook dat het koud is in duitsland en dat het lekker weer is in Spanje. Heel bizarre tent. Geen volgende keer meer in het gezellige Monschau.

The waiters were extremely rude the dessert wasn’t so great. Plus the restroom was dirty. The restaurant inside is nice.

Recession only about the restaurant Price performance is not okay. We all ordered schnitzels, 2x with mustard sauce and 2x with mushrooms. Unfortunately they were cheap molded chips from the deep fryer. The mustard sauce tasted like a ready-made sauce from a bucket, the fried potatoes were strangely made with indefinable vegetables. Normally there is only doubt and, if you want, bacon. The food was on the table within 5 minutes, which indicates mass processing. For us it was a better "chip shop".

We went to the Christmas market in Monschau and just wanted something to drink and we were thrown out. We were only allowed to stay if we ordered food!!!! A huge disgrace, that's the last one!!!!

The other day I stubbed my little toe on the corner of the table and it hurt less than when they tell me that they don't have a table to eat at in this restaurant. Carlos and the rest of the waiters are charming, the food is delicious (especially the Schnitzel Gabriel and the Haxe) and they were very fast. I can't wait to return to Monschau and be able to enjoy this restaurant!

Constantly loud chattering walkie-talkies, there was never a moment when the order was complete and the staff had a special attitude.

Unfortunately, our visit to this restaurant was very disappointing. The waitress was unfriendly and bitchy in her dealings with us from the start. Another problem was the food. The steak was cold and the venison goulash was probably from a can. Hygiene in the restaurant was also particularly worrying. There was no hand soap in the toilet. Overall our visit was very unsatisfactory and I cannot recommend this restaurant.

The food was lukewarm and the second plate was warm but unfortunately just not tasty! Monschau was a great adventure, the restaurant wasn't! That's not even worth one star!
