Restaurant "Zum Alten Fährhaus" in Rostock

We had lunch, all 3 fish dishes were so delicious!!! We were served friendly and the old ferry house was very comfortable! 5 stars from us ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍

We had an iced chocolate on the terrace. We weren't greeted so friendly by the staff (a young woman). We were initially made to wait 30 minutes until the order was taken. A young man from the service department then served us in a friendly and quick manner. The interior of the restaurant is extremely old. The entrance area and the toilets also require a thorough renovation. The ferry house is not using its potential. But it scores points with its location. We can't rate the food.

Good and cheap carbonated water bottle... just fill it up with tap water and then sell it for 2.50. Profit is fine. However, I find that really cheeky.

After the boat ride, 7 of us wanted to have a drink here...it was 8:55 p.m. on August 20th, 2024. The waitress said, ok, that's no problem. When we took a seat in the outdoor area, another waiter or bar man came and said that they were closing now. When we pointed out that it was open until 10 p.m., we were told that there was nothing going on (although 4 tables outside were still occupied) and that it therefore wanted to close. "We should come earlier next time"...What a cheeky statement. When we complained that that couldn't be the case, the gentleman got a little annoyed and said, OK, I'll bring you the drinks, but then we'll be billed straight away and then it's time for work. We politely declined and drove to a nearby restaurant/bar who warmly welcomed us. Never again.

Food was very tasty. It was just very warm in the building. A ceiling fan or two would definitely help. All in all a good stay, nice service.

An adventure of a special kind. I'm just describing my impressions. Everyone has to form their own picture and everyone has good and bad days. A nicely located location. I was received by an emergency service. A gentleman who was probably overindulging in alcohol was being transported away with the remains of his cold drinks on his shirt. It can happen, but it tends to be disturbing at the start of a family celebration. Well, don't worry about it. Let's look at the inside. It was only after about an hour that I saw the face of the person sitting next to me for the first time, as a thick wooden post right next to my head not only restricted the seating comfort but also obscured the view. This could have been done much better given the available space. The service was similar to the railway's availability during strike times. Either someone came or not. Actually not bad at all - that meant you avoided the fate of the poor ambulance passenger. The food was also arranged more in a tent camp style. A thick leg of pork for self-filleting flanked by whole cauliflower and - at least that's what it looked and tasted like - frozen vegetables. The salmon was tasty - the blind chicken and the grain. To quote colleague Rosin - I was missing a culinary line. After about two hours, which took longer because I hadn't had that much to drink yet, I went to the sanitary area for the first time. When I entered these rooms, I felt pangs of conscience. Did I jump to conclusions? Had this sight made the poor man so sick? No matter - what has to, has to! I was greeted by a completely collapsed toilet (is this art or can it be removed?). The smell and the wet, sticky floor at least kept the flies away. I only visited this area when I was in an emergency. So back behind my post. From here I was able to follow the evening - at least 50% of it. I have never experienced such “remarkable” service. In my opinion there was no trace of organization. I could go on and on but at a certain point it just becomes personal and I want to remain objective. Conclusion: I felt very sorry for the host. For such service (sorry, I have to give the child a name), quality and chaos in the process, I would have taken half the money back with me. Personally, I certainly won't be visiting this restaurant again and can't recommend it to anyone else - at least as far as my experience that evening is concerned. Sure, everyone can have a bad day - unfortunately that was the day I was there. Maybe I have too high standards (you might think if you read all the other reviews. I hope that every visitor has the experiences of the reviewers before me rather than mine. In short - an adventure that I only needed once...

Super good food, service very attentive, prices completely okay and the Hansesail right in front of the door. It couldn't be better.

We spontaneously came across this restaurant...opposite the Hanse Sail 😍 so the view is of course a dream. The food was very tasty. Came relatively quickly too. Large portion. Hardly manageable. The schnitzels are huge. The service was a bit disorientated...but everyone was very friendly.

This is the third time we have been rudely and annoyedly turned away within 2 weeks due to an alleged lack of space. Unfortunately for a Gehlsdorfer it is the only way to go out to eat. The Fährhaus no longer sees me as a guest 😠

Bad service, the restaurant opens at 3 p.m., but what is not communicated when making the reservation is that the kitchen doesn't start working until 4 p.m. Therefore, food cannot be rated.

I had invited guests and booked a table for dinner. Even though everything was empty, we weren't allowed to sit down beforehand and were rudely "evicted". When we were finally allowed to sit down, we were told that food wouldn't be available for another hour...very embarrassing for me. I then took my guests somewhere else, were greeted very politely and were full and happy after an hour!

It was very nice there and a quiet atmosphere. Unfortunately we only drank coffee there. Will definitely go there again for dinner.

Time simply stood still here. But actually that's not true - you just haven't done anything over time. The outdoor terrace is slowly falling apart. At least the tables in the interior look like they are from the last millennium, without any idea or love for this place. What could you do with this location? You can see this gastronomy from the early nineties, 30 years ago. The food is good even 30 years later.

It's a shame about such a beautiful house in a perfect location. Loveless terrace and food... that's how it goes.

Food delicious and reasonably priced.

We had schnitzel and I have to admit that I found it almost disgusting. It takes a kind of “skill” to ensure that the pannade was soggy on all sides. The meat didn't taste good either. The fries (Twister, clearly not homemade) were of low quality. The service was good and very friendly.

The restaurant has been around for many years and has developed well in recent years. The food and service were very good for me. The good gypsy schnitzel is also on the menu You can sit outside and have a nice view of Rostock, the city harbor.

We were looking for one last meal from the weekend trip to Rostock. Then came across the location. Very nice service and incredibly delicious food😊 the price/performance ratio is absolutely right here. The view from the terrace of the city harbor is also great. Can only be recommended

Today we went to the ferry house for coffee and cake with our kids, grandmas and grandpas. Thanks to the weather, we were even able to sit outside and enjoy the great view over Rostock. There was something delicious for everyone on the menu. Some also ordered a warm snack. Everything was so delicious that we will come here for lunch soon. The staff was also great. The children were kept busy with the sandbox and toys. Thank you for the lovely afternoon!

I was there with the family for the first time today and was very satisfied... The food was really tasty and the service was very nice.... Really recommended

The food was very tasty; Portions and prices completely okay. Unfortunately, you can't order ice cream after 7 p.m., so our dessert only consisted of coffee. The view is fantastic and a little insider tip as this corner is not yet too crowded. The toilets were clean, although the rooms could do with some renovation. The service could be improved; We didn't have to wait long for our food, but we hardly saw the waiters after that. Conclusion: If you want to eat at a good price-performance ratio with a fantastic view and don't expect first class service, you're in good hands here. In any case, we would love to come back.

We went out to eat yesterday, the service is quick and the portions are large, but the taste leaves a lot to be desired. Fried potatoes are much too big and greasy, the seasoning has no taste, perhaps from a finished product?

6.5 people + dog were looked after in a friendly and quick manner and provided with delicious and generous portions. - Point for fried potatoes

We recently celebrated our wedding here. From the uncomplicated reservation, the implementation of our wishes to the always attentive, committed staff and the delicious food at fair prices, everything was wonderful! And the location is great anyway. Clear recommendation if you want to have a nice meal in Rostock!

Delicious food, good German home cooking. The employees are sometimes overwhelmed because there is simply not enough. But always nice. A magnificent view of Rostock. Guests like to wait a while for the panorama.

Only had a drink but the plates laid out on the other tables looked good! If the weather permits, you can sit outside and have a beautiful view of Rostock.

This is the worst service I have ever experienced. We were there for the second time today. Last year only three guests were served out of five. The others only received their orders when they asked. Today it was the same. We were five people. Two have received their orders. The rest of us waited for over half an hour and only got our orders after asking. Positive. We three latecomers didn't have to pay for our drinks. I cannot recommend the restaurant

The restaurant is a cozy maritime place to relax. With friendly service and a small but fine selection of dishes, both warm and cold. The fish sandwiches are really tasty and the potato pancakes for the dwarves are also great. All in all recommended.

Nice corner but... food can be improved (looks great but the taste is okay) And the service is even worse... look for new ones who are also friendly and quick (they'll see when something is empty) So if I come back it will only be for the café and beer :( It's a shame actually... As of: 2022

Rustic but cozy. Ideal for stopping off after a walk along the Warnow on the Gehlsdorf side. Great price-performance ratio. Always happy.

Hier findet man noch etwas Ostalgie-Charme wieder. Die Küche und das Essen sind hervorragend. Probiert die Schnitzel mit den Bratkartoffeln, klasse! Auch die Mitarbeiter sind sehr bemüht, der Service passt einfach.

Ein rustikales maritimes Restaurant, auf der Karte ist für jeden etwas dabei.

Das Essen war wirklich schmackhaft und sehr reichhaltig. Der Service war sehr höflich und schnell. Aber am Ambiente muss unbedingt gearbeitet werden, vorallem in den Waschräumen.

Wir waren mit einer Gruppe von Kindern und Jugendlichen mit Beeinträchtigung aus Leipzig hier essen. Alle wurden ordentlich beraten und behandelt. Der Service war tadellos. Sehr freundlich und liebevoll. Das Essen war super lecker und frisch. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und kommen gerne wieder. Vielen Dank ❤️

Sehr gestresstes Personal. Die Speisekarten sind absolut eklig. Unsere Speisekarten haben alle geklebt! Zwischen den letzten beiden Seiten war Schimmel. Die Eiskarte war auch absolut verklebt. Auf meinen Hinweis hin, hat der Kellner mit Unverständnis reagiert und die siffigen teile liegen lassen. Wenn die Karten schon so abartig aussehen, mag man nichts zu Essen bestellen. Die andere Bedienung brachte mir falsches Wasser, das sagte ich und sie diskutierte mit mir dass ich es schließlich bestellt hätte. Hatte ich nicht, denn sowas trinke ich nicht. Der Eindruck war absolut unprofessionell. Ich komme selbst aus der Gastro. Sowas hätte ich mir nie erlaubt. Hätte gerne besser geurteilt. Tut mir leid!

Also das Essen, Getränke und Service waren gut. Riesige Portionen beim Essen. Das Ambiente ist leider etwas runtergekommen. Die Terasse müsste mal dringend von Unkraut befreit werden, und drinnen ist es sehr lieblos und kalt eingerichtet. Die Treppen zum Innenbereich kleben leider sehr. Und sind sehr unansehnlich…. Mit ein bischen guten Willen und Tatendrang kann man das tolle Gebäude zu einem Hingucker und Publikumsmagneten machen

Das Essen schmeckt sehr gut. Der Service ist aufmerksam und freundlich. Im Sommer sehr zu empfehlen.

Wir haben den rundem Geburtstag meines Mannes gefeiert und waren wirklich von der Planung bis hin zu Essen, Dekoration, Service und Freundlichkeit begeistert. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis war hervorragend. Es gab nur sehr kleine Kritikpunkte: Die Gäste fanden die Toiletten nicht so toll und war anfangs sehr warm in dem Raum. Das sind aber wirklich sehr kleine Dinge, die der runden Sache keinen großen Abbruch taten. Vielen vielen Dank für die tolle Betreuung und den schönen Abend. Alle Gäste und das Geburtstagskind fanden es super.

Süffiges Bier an einem schönen Ort. Gegessen hatte ich nichts, deshalb konnte ich für diesen Punkt keinen Stern vergeben. Aber beim nächstem Besuch bestimmt.

Toller Ausblick, dazu sehr leckeres Essen! Obendrauf noch super sympathische Kellner; Bedienung Janine sorgt dafür dass man sich rundum wohl fühlt und gern wieder kommt. Wir sehen uns bald wieder 🙂

Kurzer aber sehr angenehmer Aufenthalt da auf der Durchreise. Saubere Zimmer nett im Stil der Schifffahrt dekoriert. Bad auch sehr sauber. Frühstück im kleinen gemütlichen Frühstücksraum. Ausreichend Auswahl beim Frühstück und nett in Gläschen und Bügelfläschen präsentiert. Tolle Idee.

Aussicht unglaublich! ein klares MUSS. Auch Essen und Service waren top!! gern wieder!!!

Sehr schöner und ruhiger Platz zum Entspannen und Genießen. Essen ist sehr lecker 😋 und preislich okay nur das Bier 🍺 für 5,50 Euro ist teuer auch wenn es von fass ist .Egal ich fahre nochmal dahin zum Entspannen und meine Ruhe genießen

Essen war sehr lecker und reichlich.😋 Die Bedienung (Janine und Martin) waren beide super nett und auch für ein Späßchen zu haben. Wir kommen auf jedenfall wieder vorbei. Die Drogeria Mädels 👍

Wir waren auf dem Weg zur Schwedenfähre und haben im Restaurant gespeist. Das Essen und der Service sind prima, grosse Portionen. Der Blick auf die Altstadt von Rostock ist genial. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Waren zum Eisbecheressen dort. Bedienung nett und bemüht. Leider wirkt vieles "provisorisch" ; von der Ausstattung des Restaurants und dem Zustand des Grundstückes.

Terrasse ist gut vorallem der herrliche Ausblick auf die Segler und die Skyline von Rostock
