Restaurant Taverna Hellas in Leipzig

The food has nothing to do with Greek cuisine, it is only for German customers who have no idea about Greek cooking.

Waiting time for the food was 1:45 hours, chicken skewers were not cooked through, meat was still translucent, fries were cold and the rice was missing, new food was brought but the waiting time for the food was extended to almost 2:15 hours, service was also extremely slow and disappointing, on top of that there was the waiter's hair on the salad, restaurant not to be recommended at all!!!

Unfortunately, we weren't satisfied. The grilled pepperoni was only warmed, not grilled. The salad starter was carelessly served in a bowl from a bag, and the main course was missing one of the three meats listed in the Athenian plate from both identical dishes we ordered. The taste was okay, but the rest was disappointing.

We ate there before a concert at the Arena. We reserved a table in advance, which worked out well. The food was mediocre, and there are much better Greek restaurants in Leipzig. Service was haphazard and disorganized. We won't be going there again.

Not possible, it was almost empty, but we were still seated at the most inconvenient table in the passage. The 17-year-old waitress was constantly using our first names, first intrusively and then no longer showing up, absolutely no feeling for guests. A Greek restaurant that smells of curry. It just doesn't fit at all.

We were there on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was very poorly attended. Despite everything, we waited almost 20 minutes until we were allowed to order drinks and then another hour and a half until the food came, which wasn't even complete. The food itself was delicious, but the waiting time and the service were subpar. There were four service staff there who didn't really have anything to do. Despite everything, we were unable to order another drink to bridge the waiting time. The food tasted good, but I think there are much better places to eat delicious Greek food in Leipzig.

The waiter was quite overwhelmed and it took forever until our drinks came and we could then order food. The grilled peppers were drowned in sauce and probably never saw the grill. My son's pasta also had a very untasty sauce. My minced steak was very good, but the rice with the fries was unnecessary and there was very little zazikie. My wife's gyro was quite dry and there was no need for rice with the fries.

We were during the week. There was nothing going on. There were 2 or 3 tables occupied and we waited over an hour for the main course. We don't come here anymore. The quality of the food was also below average. It's a shame, but there are good Greek restaurants in the center of Leipzig that are definitely more worthwhile.

We were here about 5 years ago and it was great. When we visited on Saturday it was really bad.. The service was nice, the food came with a wait of 1 hour Except for one dish, everything was cold/lukewarm! If we hadn't been under time pressure, the food would have been returned. We won't go here anymore!

It was very full, you should reserve in advance. The staff was quick, but a bit unstructured and definitely not enough. We had to wait almost 1 hour for the food, but it was very tasty 🤤. The four of us were at the Taverna Hellas restaurant before our “Gregorian” concert in the Quarterback Arena. We would like to thank the waiters again. We ordered food, the food came quickly and tasted very tasty. The service was very nice and very helpful. Mega fast processing when we called have reported.

We went to the Iron Maiden concert in Leipzig in 2023. Beforehand, we spontaneously stopped by the restaurant. Service was quick, friendly and good, food was delicious. My wife then reserved a table because she was in Leipzig for another concert a few weeks later

Considering there were only a few other guests in the restaurant, we waited a long time for the food. The portions are very small by normal standards and especially for the price. I definitely didn't leave the restaurant full. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was good and the service was very friendly.

On a Saturday evening before attending an event at the arena, we were treated to a culinary delight that perfectly set the tone for the evening. The service was super friendly, certain dishes were explained to us clearly, and the welcome drink was served at a perfect temperature. The quality of the selected dishes was excellent, very tasty, and plentiful. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire team. Keep up the good work, and we'll definitely be back.

We ate at the taverna for the first time today, and what can I say? We were extremely satisfied. Although some negative reviews left me a bit unsure, I'm happy to form my own opinion. I can only say to the team, keep up the good work.

Despite making a reservation by phone, no table was reserved for us. Our side salad wasn't served at all, the food was all too salty, and unfortunately, there was no ouzo either.

There were no starters, no garlic bread and that from a Greek restaurant 😳 The service wasn't really there, we had to ask several times to get drinks and someone came to the table to pay the bills. That was the first and last time.

It's been a long time since I ate as badly as last night. As soon as you descended the stairs, you encountered a toilet-like smell in the pub, like Klostein. The furnishings are simple and old, nothing at all to make you feel comfortable. Waited forever for food, which wasn't worth the money. Due to the fact that you had already had two drinks before eating, you had to go to the toilet again. The door to the kitchen was open, there was chaos and uncleanliness inside, help! The paint and plaster were peeling off the hallway and walls, apparently they have a huge problem with moisture and proper ventilation. Looking back, we should have stopped straight away. Finally ate the completely dry gyros, which every other Greek can do better. Only the service was friendly, although everything took forever, from ordering to the food and the bill. In this condition, you can only steer clear of it.

From the food to the service to the ambience, everything surprised me positively. I can't think of a reason why you shouldn't eat here.

We were in the restaurant for the first time, without a reservation, and got a nice table after waiting 5 minutes. Totally nice and courteous staff. We received our delicious food 15 minutes after ordering and were completely satisfied. Can only be recommended 👍

It was our first time in this restaurant and we can only say good things. The food was tasty, hot and plentiful, the waiter was nice and attentive. Price performance great. The only point of criticism we have to make is that the chairs outside are a bit uncomfortable to linger for a long time.

We (7 people) were at the restaurant shortly after 11:30 a.m. The outdoor seating area first had to be prepared, although this didn't include cleaning the tables and chairs, which we set up ourselves. I had cold and warm starters on a platter for €14. So the food was definitely not worth the money (in my opinion). Unfortunately I didn't take a photo.

Very tasty food. Reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the service isn't quite up to scratch. After we got the drink, no order for food was taken, after waiting over 15 minutes. We were afraid we wouldn't get anything. So we went to the counter to order our food. We ordered Sakanaki as a starter and gyros pan with garlic sauce and gyros gratinated with Metaxa sauce as our main course. It was very delicious. Unfortunately, everything was brought to the table together. So that the main course was only lukewarm after eating the starter. Reordering a 0.5l carafe of wine also takes longer. Well to apologize, the Roland Kaiser concert was over and it was a bit busy. At least the plates were cleared away. But otherwise it's great. If after the Peter Maffay concert on July 20th. If it's not too late, we'd love to come back here. So it is highly recommended. We were there again on the Saturday after the Peter Maffay concert. We had previously ordered our food and a table over the phone, a Zakanaki and Tzaziki. As soon as we registered, the waiter came and took our drinks. 5 minutes later we got our food. It was very delicious. Drinking was there too. Perfect. So we'll definitely come back when we're in Leipzig. B test passed with flying colors.

To be fair, the waiters were OK. If there is no event in the stadium, you can sit comfortably here. The food is the worst Greek food I've ever had. In addition, the portions are far too small for the price. The taste is mediocre - meat dry and pulp cold. Walnuts on the yogurt are old and rancid. Not recommendable.

The restaurant Taverna Hellas is a very nice Greek restaurant. You can eat very well here. I had reserved seats a month in advance. When we got there there was no table available, we had to wait half an hour. It wasn't possible! When we finally sat at the table we had to wait another half an hour before our drinks order was taken. And of course it continued like this until the meal. There was an event in the stadium opposite, so the staff was constantly overwhelmed. I think I wouldn't recommend going to this restaurant for events at the stadium. You have to expect waiting times. They were also quite economical with Ouso!

We were in the restaurant on July 19, 2024 after reserving a seat and wanted to go to the concert. Were very disappointed with the staff....very unkempt,....long waiting time...up to 1.5 hours...starter was baked instead of crispy, almost sticky...selection of dishes totally reduced...whole Staff was overwhelmed and inexperienced...although we know it differently from the former operator...it's actually a shame...the atmosphere inside is great...

Pre-ordered on Friday, sheer catastrophe, totally overcrowded. Seats assigned twice. Long waiting time for food. Waiter overwhelmed and what was ordered didn't come, so it didn't happen again

Catastrophe! Kitchen and service completely overwhelmed with a slightly increased number of guests. We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for the starters and the main courses only came after a very serious conversation with the waitress. Guests who arrived half an hour after us received their food a good half hour BEFORE us. The price for this, however, was an unwanted shower with the previously ordered drinks. The waitress, on the verge of a nervous breakdown, completely forgot to ask us if we wanted any more drinks. Guests at the next tables, which were never cleared, also asked for the bill several times in vain, almost to the point of nervous breakdown. Lirum Larum When the food was served to us, one starter was completely missing, a children's portion came when everyone else had already eaten. The portions were small and the food was basically cold. At most, I would recommend it to the tram driver who drove away in front of me on the same day 2 minutes before the scheduled departure because he only considers timetables to be a recommendation.

Disaster. Waiting for 1 hour for food, then my child would forget the food.. When I was finished for a long time and wanted to leave, they brought it.. It was right at the next table... Many people left voluntarily because they didn't even have it after 15 minutes had a card. Lots of waiters here but pure chaos. Eat salty

After the change of operator you can come back here. Solid performance from the kitchen. Service consistent.

I've eaten Greek many times, but I've never experienced anything like this. The staff unfriendly. You have to wait forever for the drink to come, let alone the food. While we're eating, I strongly recommend ordering something with bread. The bread is either baked or rubbery. The toilets are clogged, there is a very strong smell and almost everything is moldy. That was the first and last time in this restaurant.

I can only report positive things. Super nice and quick-witted waiter, good food and a nice atmosphere. It was my first time there based on a recommendation and I can only recommend it.

Highly recommended and delicious food. Service could sometimes be a little more attentive. Empty plates sometimes stood a little longer. But the price-performance ratio is absolutely right. The appetizer platter is highly recommended. We had it for one person. Was very plentiful. The prices are absolutely top for Leipzig city center/Waldstrasse district. Also highly recommended if you have tickets for the Quarterback or Red Bull Arena and want to eat something delicious beforehand 😉 And there are also to-go drinks for the way to the event 🍺🍹 We would love to come back ☺️

I enjoy eating Greek food, but never in this restaurant again. Ordered a table and waited almost an hour for drinks. It had been 2 hours before the food arrived. Despite reminders, there was no reaction from the staff. When the food came there was so little on the plate, we forgot about the salad and we weren't even asked if we would like anything else to drink. Left the restaurant hungry and thirsty.

Waited over an hour for the order, it should take a maximum of an hour. After an hour and 30 minutes my order was canceled I will receive the amount I have already paid back within the next 3 days. Great, thank you very much for nothing

A good address to fortify yourself with good food (the souvlaki was very good - my classic 😋) before going to the concert in the arena (less than 3 minutes away). It's definitely worth making a reservation.

Absolutely average Greek. Starters very tasty, main courses very mixed. My Bifteki was a frozen product, which unfortunately became apparent very quickly. The lamb shank and sea bream, however, were well prepared. Vegetarian main courses are virtually non-existent (one dish). The service is mediocre. We sat almost right next to the bar, unfortunately no one asked for drinks. For three starters shared by 8 people, there was a basket with 7 slices of baguette. I would have liked that to be more attentive. Upon request, a second basket was brought. Unfortunately, main courses came in two batches, 4 minutes apart. Ambience very old, it quickly became stuffy in the basement restaurant. Despite the outside temperature being 21 degrees, neither the outside seats were free of the safety cable nor was the door open for fresh air. Overall it's ok for a Greek, but not a big recommendation.

First of all: the food was very good and freshly prepared. Unfortunately, that was it. What happened here ??? As residents of the area, we have known the restaurant for a few years, but what we experienced today makes me sad. The five of us arrived around 7 p.m. and the restaurant was absolutely empty - except for two men 2 tables away - but a table was still "looked for" for us - the waitress chose the table next to the entrance (cough). Neither the candle on the table was lit nor the menus, which were lying on a wall right next to the table, were handed to us. After about 5-10 minutes, the Indian-looking man, who was obviously doing the service in the Greek restaurant, appeared again to hand us the menus that were next to the table. After just a few minutes of waiting, we realized that it was uncomfortably cool in the restaurant. A little later we were able to place the order. We were asked somewhat harshly to provide the numbers on the menu, even for the drinks we were asked to do so. So you couldn't just order a small still water, but rather number XY. A bit strange, but good. If, despite the large bottle of water I ordered, a small one comes and instead of the small cola I ordered a large one - then I question the point of giving the number when ordering. The food took a while to arrive, but it was freshly prepared and very tasty. Unfortunately, when ordering drinks, the "service person" tipped over a bottle of water on the tray exactly between two of us and the water partially spilled over the food of my table neighbor and over both of our clothes. More or less there was only a short apology. After we pointed out that the fries were now floating in water, a new meal was offered, which we declined. At the end we wanted (previously announced) to pay separately by card (2 families) - we even asked twice - then 1 invoice came with the note that the cash register only prints it out like that and it can only be paid in total and we can do that then you can calculate it yourself 🙄 We waited for free for the obligatory ouzo at the end, not to mention the fact that not long ago there were a total of 3 ouzo (before/during/after the meal) and children always got a "children's schnapps" with it. In short: food good, service catastrophe. Dear Taverna Hellas: please change it quickly, you need good and authentic service staff - for me that also means that I won't be served by an Indian at a Greek restaurant, and especially not if he doesn't know his craft - and that's not what I mean racist nor evil. In addition, if possible, trained employees who can communicate properly with guests and are present (we often didn't see anyone and guests left in between because they weren't noticed) should serve in a restaurant, then there are tips on the one hand and on the other Taverna Hellas will once again live up to its (unfortunately, formerly good reputation). Incidentally, musical accompaniment was also in short supply; the prevailing silence was only spartanly interrupted by Greek folklore. It's a shame... It'll probably be a while before we come back😑 When I got home, I had to warm myself up in the tub and when I looked at the bill I also noticed that the large water (bottle) I ordered was on the bill, but didn't appear on the table...

Nach einer telefonischen Reservierung vorab, war das mein erster Besuch in dem Restaurant. Die Location finde ich persönlich sehr cool an einer Hausecke gelegen. Wenn es draußen wärmer ist, lädt der Außenbereich auch sehr zum Verweilen ein. Leider wurden wir bei unserer Ankunft recht reserviert und kalt begrüßt. Nichts desto trotz, mussten wir nach unserer Bestellung nicht lange auf Getränke und das Essen warten. Das Essen hat uns allen sehr gut geschmeckt. Die Portionen waren angenehm groß und schmackhaft angerichtet. Jedoch hatten wir den Eindruck, dass einige Speisen weniger warm waren, als andere. Vielleicht hat das Timing in der Küche nicht so gestimmt. Wer weiss.

Nette Begrüßung ,freundliche Gespräche mit dem Chef. Gutes und schmackaftes Essen . Preis/ Leistungsverhältnis sehr 👍 Kommen gerne wieder.

… heute das erste mal hier. was möchte man mehr. sitzplätze draußen sehr entspannt und ruhig. das personal sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. gerade im hinblick auf die tierischen flug tiere (fliegen und wespen aufgrund der jahreszeit) findet man eine sehr gute lösung. der griechische bauernsalat ist mega!!! da dürfen sich gerne andere restaurants ein beispiel nehmen. wir kommen gerne wieder

Wir waren zu fünft das erste Mal in diesem Lokal. Der Kellner war sehr sympathisch und hatte immer alles im Blick. 👍Das Essen war absolut klasse. Rundum - wir waren alle begeistert und kommen gerne wieder 👌

Restaurante griego donde poder degustar la gastronomía típica del país. Muy buena atención por parte del personal y buen ambiente.

Essen war gut. Bedienung so lala. Nichts außergewöhnliches.

Freundlich war der Chef des Hauses, wie viele andere Bewertungen schon angemerkt haben, leider wirklich nicht. Es schien eher so als würde die Anwesenheit von fremden Gästen ihm nicht behagen denn die offensichtlichen Stammgäste wurden eher und auch freundlicher bedient. Das Essen war ganz in Ordnung aber ein Hochgenuss war es leider nicht. Da haben wir schon besser griechisch gegessen. Sehr Schade. Das Ambiente war sehr schön und an sich hätte man sich auch wohl gefühlt, wenn denn die Bedienung freundlicher und das Essen besser gewesen wäre.

Ein rund um schönes Ouzo Erlebnis

Ein sehr schönes Restaurant in der Nähe der Arena, dass somit bei Veranstaltungen sehr gut besucht ist. Man sollte also vorher Reservieren. Das Gyros ist super zart und das Zaziki ist ein Traum. Die Kretanischen Kartoffeln sind zu empfehlen für alle die es deftig mögen. Der Service war sehr gut, alle unsere Bitten wurden beachtet. Ouzo gab es auch!

Das Restaurant ist sehr gemütlich und lädt zum verweilen ein. Die Kellner sind sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Ich hatte das Saganaki und die gegrillten Peperoni als Vorspeise und das Bifteki als Hauptspeise war super. Alles in Allem Top! Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Als Vorspeise hatten wir Tzaziki welcher sehr gut geschmeckt hatte. Die Bedienung ist freundlich und aufmerksam. Der Laden an sich war recht gut besucht jedoch ein wenig dunkel gehalten. Auch die Hauptspeusen haben sehr gut geschmeckt. Nachspeisen hatte wir keine aber der Preis für 3 Personen war ganz gut.

Essen ist super, ich empfehle vor allem die Zucchinichips und Feta Spezial! Der Service war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir kommen gerne wieder! Ευχαριστω!

Das Essen war okay, allerdings würden wir nicht erneut dort Speisen. Das jüngere Personal war freundlich aber der Chef selber ,sehr unfreundlich. Ist jetzt keine Reise wert muss man sagen.

Gegenüber der Quarterback Arena gelegen ist dieses Restaurant eine echte Empfehlung. Man kann drinnen und draußen essen. Das Essen ist sehr lecker, die Bedienung freundlich und die Preise sind auch in Ordnung. Wenn man hier im Rahmen eines Events in der Quarterback Arena ist, sollte man auf alle Fälle vorher reservieren.

Wir wurden sehr freundlich bedient. Das Essen schmeckte und wurde schnell zubereitet.

Tolles Restaurant! Alle Vorspeisen und Hauptgerichte waren sehr lecker und der Kellner war wirklich aufmerksam und sehr freundlich. Wir waren begeistert kommen auf jeden Fall bald wieder.

Sehr nett, allerdings werden die Portionen immer kleiner. Wenn man noch etwas Zaziki zum Hauptgang haben möchte, wird einem ungefragt eine Vorspeise berechnet. Ich würde ja dafür bezahlen, will aber nur eine Kugel und nicht vier. Es könnte auch etwas mehr Brot vorab geben.

Einer meiner Lieblings Griechen in der Umgebung, sehe nette Bedingungen und schneller Service. Wenn es doch mal länger dauern sollte, gibt es genügend Ouzo 😉
