Restaurant Strandlust

It's a beautifully located restaurant with comfortable beach chairs to linger and enjoy. I've known the premises for several years, and we enjoyed going there, even with guests. It's a bit out of the way, but that also has its charm and is also ideal for a walk in nature. Opening hours are limited to a few days at set times. Unfortunately, this year we've found everything closed during opening hours – with no information online or just a notice board. We stood in front of locked doors and didn't know why!!! The trip was in vain, and the anticipation of a wonderful break with food and drinks was dashed! Annoying! Why isn't it possible to inform guests via notice board or online so that this trip isn't wasted? Surely groups don't book their appointments spontaneously, but in advance?

Cake and coffee were okay 👍 Service was very disorganized. No ice cream sundaes available because the kitchen closes at 2 p.m. 🧐 Today, after a year, we visited the Strandlust restaurant again. Pleasantly surprised, great, friendly service, fulfilling all our wishes. The staff deserves praise only once. We'd be happy to come back. Yesterday, after two years, we were pleasantly surprised. Good food, fast, attentive service, and a different ambiance outside. We'd be happy to come back. September 2025 We've been here again. Everything is just right here. We were very satisfied with the food and the service. The staff were very friendly, and our dog was well looked after. Thank you, see you in spring 2026, when we'll be happy to come back. Good value for money. We'd be happy to come back.

Great view in beach baskets in ideal weather at the end of October

It would have been nice to see a restaurant open. Despite the beautiful weather, it was closed on Sunday. Rumor had it there was a party the night before—well, not exactly professional, rather unreliable!

We had planned to visit it on Friday at 12:30 p.m., but unfortunately it was closed, but the information said it was open. That's annoying. A notice saying it was closed would have been great, but that's how it is.

The cafe could use a bit of sprucing up; everything seems rather dull and bare. The staff is very friendly.

The restaurant is only open on weekends but is a real gem in this area. Food and drinks are ordered and paid for at a small cash register. You then receive a pager for the drinks, which you then collect at the bar. The food is brought to you. The restaurant is busy and has a great view of the sea and beach. The food is more like snacks or very good takeaway food, but it's really tasty, and that's the main thing.

Great place, friendly service, delicious cake and cappuccino

Yes, I can recommend this place. You have a view of the sea. Either from the beach chair or you sit at a table with a parasol. But if you sit outside, you won't be served. It has NOTHING to do with a coffee shop or a restaurant. You order your food at a counter. After a long wait, in a long line, you stand in front of a window and can order your food. If you haven't studied the menu beforehand, you don't know what you can buy. There's no menu at the hatch. (It feels a bit like the food counter in a cafeteria.) After ordering and paying, you're given a small buzzer, and as soon as it beeps, you have to pick up coffee and cake from the counter in the restaurant. Only hot meals are brought by a waitress. You feel like you're not really wanted. You don't feel welcome, more like you're at a train station snack bar. Everything, quick, quick, next please. 2 cups of coffee and 2 slices of sheet cake cost €17. Opening hours in midsummer: Friday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM - Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Not very inviting. But as I said, the view and the sound of the waves make up for it.

Great restaurant. Excellent value for money. Very friendly staff. Even when the restaurant and terrace are full, there's always a smile and friendly service. We'd be happy to go back.

We were here on Easter Sunday. The restaurant was very busy, almost all the tables inside were occupied, but we wanted to sit outside and enjoy the live music anyway. You can get the menu by scanning the QR code at the table. Choose food/drinks and then order at the patio window. You receive a beeper and as soon as the signal sounds, you can pick up your drinks inside...or the delicious cake. Food from the kitchen is brought to the table by friendly service staff. We had beer, Aperol Spritz, strawberry cake, rhubarb cake, Mediterranean tarte flambée and the veggie burger, which is new on the menu and will hopefully have a regular place there. The cakes were moist, not too sweet and the size of the pieces was appropriate. The tarte flambée was very tasty with the Mediterranean vegetables and the crispy base and the veggie burger was probably the best my husband has eaten so far. Juicy, well seasoned and also very visually appealing. The price-performance ratio is absolutely ok. We'd love to come back.

Hello to the entire team! We had breakfast with you for the first time today. The buffet was fantastic!!! 👍 Unfortunately, we had to complain that the staff started clearing the buffet at 11:46 a.m. That's not appropriate! This should be discussed internally. After all, you're paying for it! Otherwise, it was excellent!

Very loud, the staff seemed overwhelmed when several people ordered at once; the music was so loud that you had to hold your voice high. The latte macchiato was OK, though, as was the cake. Value for money was OK.

Nice by the water a bit crowded but that speaks for itself

Unfortunately, the currywurst and burger weren't available that day. The baked potato was also very good, though. The location on the small beach is good, and there are plenty of parking spaces.

Unfortunately, food was no longer available to order, and the kitchen was closed, despite a beautiful early summer day, a good turnout, and live music. This semi-self-service experience was truly forgettable. We also lacked shady seating and clean tables. Glasses can also be cleared away.

1. No vegan options on the menu 2. Prices are very expensive for what you get 3. The staff there don't know how to pour a decent beer. The beer wasn't a crown, and it was still warm. After complaining, we got a second one for free, but it was just as bad as the first one, without a crown and warm. 4. You have to order outside and get a pager if you can pick up your food or drink inside. Do you have to pick up a drink yourself inside? We've never experienced anything like that before.

Right on the small sandy beach. Plenty of outdoor seating, including indoors. Beach chairs, beach loungers, terrace, etc. Delicious coffee and a selection of cakes. Also other snacks, hamburgers, etc.

We didn't order anything ourselves, but simply wanted to check out a place with good reviews on Google Maps for our next vacation. We were very impressed with the place. There were drinking bowls for the dogs everywhere and nice beach chairs to sit in. The atmosphere was very good, the view was worth its weight in gold; all in all, a really great location with a view of the sea. Very popular with campers and locals, as we heard.

Nice restaurant was unfortunately closed today

Unfortunately, many people confuse the beach directly below the bar with the dog toilet, er, the natural beach, a five-minute walk behind the bar, and let their dogs run around here. This has now deterred me from visiting both the bar and the beach directly below. The public order office should check this and take action.

Food was delicious, fresh fish, and very friendly staff

The food was very tasty and the portions were generous. The ordering system was a bit chaotic – ordering at the counter only worked with a table number, but there weren't any on the beach chairs, so we had to search with four people. They paged to pick up the drink inside, but the food was brought to us. This could definitely be improved; the wait was longer because it made the ordering process more difficult. We'll be back anyway, but please number the beach chairs 😄

During our visit, two machines were out of service and the staff was understaffed due to illness. It took a little longer to get served, but the staff that was there took great care of the guests and also the food and drinks. I will definitely come back. Overall, a very nice day by the water.

Sunday, June 15, 2025, I haven't eaten such good kibbeling in a long time: fantastic fish, delicious breading, fries (you can't see them, it was too windy 😊, there were too many for me) with aiolli, delicious rosé -- and then the view of the water: perfect!

We went there on Whit Saturday for the breakfast buffet. It was very extensive and varied, with a variety of salads and snacks you can't get anywhere else. The service was also very attentive, constantly refilling our food, clearing our plates, and taking new drink orders. We'd be happy to go again!

We were very pleased with our visit to Strandlust Emden. The location right on the water is beautiful and creates a relaxed atmosphere. Totally nice place right on a mini beach. The terrace overlooking the water is nicely decorated with beach chairs. The prices are quite high. Be sure to pay attention to the opening times!

In itself it is really nice, staff very very friendly, ambience of course a 6 in the lottery by the sea, breakfast buffet also really solid, just maybe a bit expensive for what is on offer (nothing compared to the East Frisian in Emden city center) Aaaabut I ordered a pot of black tea. I got a pot with hot water and ONE stinking normal tea bag, nothing special but a run-of-the-mill tea bag. I don't have a problem with... It's okay. But 10€????????? Let the bag cost 30 cents, the water heated cost 20 cents. Well, I got cream and milk with it maybe... 60 cents? So I paid around €8.90 for my black tea for the great view 😂 Unfortunately, there was a huge crash when we saw the bill, which ruined our great experience a bit. You can do it once for the view, but you don't have to do more.

We have been here several times before, but this time with a small group of 8 people. Even though it was Saturday, we quickly got a table on the terrace because we had several dogs with us. The order is placed at a side window, where you get a "beeper" that signals when the drinks are ready, which then have to be picked up at the counter in the restaurant. The food is then brought to you by the staff. We ate fresh waffles with ice cream and cream that were really tasty. The atmosphere on the terrace is very rustic, the few tables and chairs wobble and are getting old. We found the little attention for our four-legged friends that every dog ​​owner received particularly positive. Overall, very nice for an afternoon trip!

Sitting down in the beach chairs set up in the afternoon with a fresh breeze: good protection from wind and weather. There is virtually self-collection there, but well organized and fast. The selection of cakes and cakes could still be improved. Staff friendly.

Unfortunately, there is no indication anywhere that today (May 2nd) it is a closed party, so no food, drinks or snacks, not even on the terrace. Even at the restaurant you initially shake the entrance door (street side) in vain. About 25 tourists upset in 10 minutes. That says it all...

After 22 km by bike, we were really looking forward to asparagus. But unfortunately we were very disappointed. Unfortunately we had to return everything. The asparagus was very firm. When the asparagus came a second time you could eat it. Unfortunately, we weren't the only ones who had the asparagus returned. We had to wait a long time for everything. In the end they were very insightful 👍

We are generally satisfied with this restaurant. The location is unique, the offerings are appealing, and the service is pleasant. Our criticism: We ordered classic East Frisian tea. It came with a classic tea service and from the Emden brand Thiele - as it should be. However, it was a pre-packaged tea bag (not loose tea, as it should be, especially given the price) and we were not told how long it had to steep. This doesn't do justice to a region that celebrates good tea making as much as this one does. We hope that this can be professionalized and look forward to enjoying East Frisian tea there again.

Some reviewers complain about the service and staff. I can't agree with that at all. Very friendly, very pleasant and very polite. If a mistake is made, someone will come right away to apologize for the inconvenience. Only the toilet, both men's and women's, could sometimes use an occasional cleaning. The atmosphere is actually quite pleasant for an industrial port.

Highly recommended breakfast! We went to Strandlust for breakfast for the first time with friends on Boxing Day and were absolutely thrilled. In addition to the already very large selection of delicious dishes, omelettes and crepes were prepared individually according to our wishes, fresh before our eyes. In the meantime we were there again for breakfast and are still very happy with the selection. We have also been guests for coffee and cake a few times and have always been satisfied. The beautiful location invites you to take a walk along the Knock afterwards.

We went to Strandlust for breakfast on Saturday with our family (23 adults, 4 children and two dogs). It was very good 👍. The dishes are varied and there is a large selection to suit every taste. The staff is very friendly and professional so we felt completely comfortable.

Instead of the reserved asparagus buffet, there was only an asparagus menu, which wasn't a real alternative in terms of price. But the food was okay, the service was subpar. Definitely good for a snack on the beach, otherwise not recommended.

We sat there for twenty minutes until someone came and brought us the card. Then we waited another 20 minutes and then left again. So that doesn't work at all. And there were enough staff running around and weren't stressed. Well, I come from the catering industry myself, but we couldn't have afforded something like that.

A great breakfast buffet on the weekend, with very attentive and friendly service. Afterwards, we enjoyed the sun with friends with delicious wine, tarte flambée, kibbeling, and fries. A very successful day and finally another beautiful location on the Knock.

I thought it was very good, the staff was very nice, I ordered a large cappuccino but there was so little in it. After I told them, I got another really tasty large cappuccino, which wasn't included in the bill. I thought that was great, and we gave it 5 stars for that 👍💯 clear recommendation for the Strandlust restaurant.

Cozy atmosphere, even if there are a lot of guests, VERY DOG-FRIENDLY (lots of water bowls, occasional treat bags), nice view of the sunset at Dollard, very nice staff with long-term memories (they recognized us after a year) and the fried dishes are prepared with fresh fat (I didn't have to go to the toilet IMMEDIATELY 😁). Prices are okay for such a tourist hotspot. Highly recommended!

We were there on Sunday at lunchtime and although it was very busy, there was a pleasant atmosphere as the rooms were very well designed with partition walls. I noticed the table decoration positively and also the friendly staff. The food was delivered quickly and we enjoyed it very much! The restaurant is definitely worth a visit! Even in foggy and cold weather, you can warm up with a hot drink - the menu offers a good selection from real East Frisian tea in a pot to a mug of hot cocoa.

I've had breakfast there twice with my family now. It was great, lots of choice, nice service and a nice view.

Today we stopped at Strandlust after a long walk on the beach with our dog. The staff is very nice and friendly. The employee immediately had a water bowl and a small bag of treats ready. Thank you for that. The waffle with ice cream and cream was very delicious. The view of the Dollart is also very nice. But: Serving East Frisian tea with milk instead of cream and then only 1 tea bag in the pot for 2 people (at least it was Thiele tea) and only 5 cups (3 cups of tea per person are East Frisian law) wasn't that great for us, at 10, 50€ per pot.

Had lunch in the restaurant today after a nice walk along the water. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. Paying with the EC CARD didn't work properly, luckily we had cash with us. A small note on the side: "If guests are eating there, you shouldn't hang up the Christmas decorations where they are sitting and stand with street shoes on the chairs where guests might still be sitting." But it didn't bother us, which unfortunately isn't the case for every guest. We liked it here and will definitely come back when we are in the area

The sunsets are simply a dream. 5 stars, for the staff and the offering says it all. We celebrated a violet wedding there. And were very satisfied.

Nice service, was at the Knock on Sunday morning and went for lunch there, as it was very warm I went to the restaurant. The service was very friendly and all employees were very quick. The food was very good, the price/performance ratio was perfectly fine. I enjoyed my "THIELE" tea and the wonderful view. I'd love to come back.

The two of us had breakfast on a Sunday and were immediately greeted in a friendly manner and escorted to our table. Almost all the seats were occupied, but there was still a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Dogs are also welcome. The buffet was very rich, from scrambled eggs to salmon and herring, various types of bread and rolls, cold cuts, cheese, salads, fresh fruit, antipasti, pancakes and donuts. It was a cozy breakfast all around.

Favorite spot on Knock beach! We've been there many times since the summer of '24 ☀️. There is delicious food here from the breakfast buffet to delicious lunch, plenty of snacks for small and large appetites, good coffee and tasty cake - a great enrichment for Emden thanks to Haase Catering 🍀🍀🍀👍🏻

Die Lage ist sehr schön mit Blick auf die Ems. Die Bedienungen waren beide sehr freundlich :) An Auswahl gab es reichlich, es fehlte uns an nichts. Die Preise lassen allerdings zu wünschen übrig. 17.90€ pro Person, wo weder Heißgetränke noch Säfte oder sonst irgendwelche Getränke mit inbegriffen sind und es keine Brötchen vom Bäcker gibt, sondern aus einem Backshop, find ich den Preis nicht gerechtfertigt. Sehr schade!

The location is super nice and the fact that dogs are welcome here was a reason for us to stop by. However, that's all! The service is totally overwhelmed, the food doesn't really taste good and therefore the price-performance ratio is negative. It also felt like there were more flies in there than guests! It's a shame, a sensible concept could lead to great sales here.

We were there with our Lucy and after a short time a young lady came and brought a bowl of water and there was a free bag of treats. We have never experienced this anywhere before. The prices are not cheap, but normal and I had a portion of fries (homemade) that I could barely manage on my own. All in all 5 stars

I can't say anything about the food, we just had something to drink there. But the staff is very nice. Here you can relax and have a good time. Dogs are also very welcome, especially in the outdoor area. There are several clean water bowls available for the dogs, and you can even buy special dog snacks for your four-legged friend

Great view. We enjoyed a great breakfast buffet on Saturday. I particularly like the juicer.
