Very authentic sushi, you can practically taste the freshness. Really nothing to complain about from the side, it's worth the price. All in all, it was a little too tight for us and I would have liked to order in stages, which is unfortunately not possible. Something about the setup made it feel like there were guidelines for everything - it didn't feel casual. Trust your Peter!

The fish is super fresh! So delicious! I ordered red meat and medium fat separately for tuna. I also ordered a separate portion of scallops, which feels more cost-effective if ordered a la carte! nigiri added another portion of fatty salmon, and I was almost exhausted by the end of the meal hahahahahahahaha sake is also very good~ The environment is relatively simple, and I feel like all the money was spent on the ingredients. In addition, the guy who ordered the order was a bit pushy. We originally came here specifically to eat sashimi, but he kept telling us that we ordered too little and asked us to add appetizers, but we still liked it better. Eat part of it first and then add what you like.

By far one of the best sushi places in Berlin

Very, very good and above all authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. An absolute recommendation for lovers of sashimi and nigiri. Anyone looking for “fancy” new style maki rolls etc. drowning in a lot of sauce will be disappointed. Lovers of good taste who are looking for classic sushi where fish is the focus will find what they are looking for here! Absolute recommendation for real fans and connoisseurs. It's also worth taking a look at the sake menu. The service was very nice and all three gentlemen present were friendly and obviously had fun while working. ;) We'll be back - Arigato Gozaimasu!

Now one of my favorite sushi places in Berlin. Very low key environment, super peaceful / zen decor that fits both Japan and Berlin, with a cool and dedicated team. The sashimi and nigiri was fresh, beautifully plated and prepared quickly. Love this place. And the front of house team is super nice. I didn’t like that they turned walk-ins away even though they weren’t fully booked. A few small groups left disappointed because the restaurant had a few seats and all outside tables available, but the restaurant didn’t want to seat them, even one unlucky group was Japanese. Seems like the restaurant adopted a common German service practice of turning folks away… not sure why:

We've been here a handful of times... The food is always delicious, but the service has started to get a bit frustrating. As a couple, we asked for two of the same starter (eggplant), because we really enjoyed one particular dish. We were asked to only have one so that later arriving patrons might be able to enjoy it. We found this quite odd as we had the earliest booking of the day. When paying, we were told the amount, and then asked, "but how much do you want to pay". I don't mind a small tip for great service, but this isn't the USA, the service was weird, and to feel bullied into a tip audibly in a public environment soured what was otherwise delicious food.

It was the wrong choice for sushi lovers like us. This place is one of the peaks of nigiri and sashimi, that is, nirvana. Reservation is required and cancellation is subject to a fee. In this way, we tasted very delicious raw fish. There are plates for 2-3-4 people, but if you like roll sushi, this is not your place. The waiters explain and give information about the products on each plate they bring. Of course, they asked for 10% service during the bill, but it was not mandatory. It costs 50-60 euros per person. Natural white wine was very good

There's absolutely nothing to critique about this restaurant. The high quality of the fish, combined with the friendly staff, makes it one of the best Japanese restaurants in berlin.

The quality is beyond question, but for €35 you get a menu that is more of an appetizer in terms of portion. I think if you want to be full as a man you have to spend around €140.

We came at 21:00 The opening time is till 23:00 After an hour and twenty min The waiter/owner bring us the check We didnt ask it We wanted to order a dessert but we got the feeling they want to kick us out so we just left the place disappointment.

Best sushi in Berlin, and a lovely crew. An intimate place, where the quality of the fish, the rice, the wasabi, the ginger are all simply superb.

During my visit to the restaurant I was impressed by the quality and freshness of the food. There is no question that the ingredients are of a very high standard, and there are few Japanese restaurants in Berlin that can offer such high quality. This alone could make the restaurant a recommendation for Japanese cuisine lovers. BUT! However, I regret to say that the experience with service and business practices did not meet the standards set by the kitchen. From the first approach to the entire service process, I didn't feel welcome as a guest, which is in stark contrast to the excellence of the food. Without wanting to go into detail, I would like to encourage other guests to see for themselves, but I must advise caution. It is my wish that this feedback is seen as an opportunity for improvement. A restaurant of such culinary quality deserves to be outstanding in all aspects. Improving customer service and first impressions could greatly enrich the experience and would ensure the restaurant is being used to its full potential. Because the visit was what it was, only 1 star.

The staff explained the dishes carefully and the food was delicious. I was surprised that sushi fatty tuna can be eaten so deliciously even overseas! I would like to go there again when I come to Berlin. Highly recommended.

THE WORST SERVICE EVER I was very looking forward to a night of a great food with a friend. Our reservation is at 6:30 right when the restaurant is open and I arrived 5 minutes before that. The waiter (a man) told me that my reservation is at the bar but if I want to sit at a table, I can still do, until 20:00. That sounds reasonable so I took the offer thinking 1.5 hrs is plenty for us to enjoy the food. My friend texted me that she will be 10 mins late, but within this 10 mins, the waiter came to ask me if my friend is still coming, reminding me that we need to leave at 20:00. At 18:40 my friend came and we barely got time to look at the menu, the waiter came again and with the same reminder that we have to order now as our time is tick toking. By this point we were very annoyed but I asked the waiter if we could first order the appetizers, but he said no, that we need to order everything at once. So we rushed through the menu and ordered, feeling super pressured. The food came quite quickly, at 19:30 we already finished the food which is 30 mins before our "time" was over, while our drinks are not finished, another waitress (this time a girl) came and asked if we could pay ! ? !? She didnt even ask if we wanted anything else. We were seriously shocked because we clearly didnt over stay our time limit. We politely asked if we could speak to the manager, but the waiter (the first one) said manager is not there. We told him, that we felt very unwelcome and being rushed the whole time, that even though the food was great, there is no chance I would recommend this place to anyone or ever returning. He then told the chef about this and the chef was apologizing even though he did a fantastic job. For a restaurant that places food rather in the premium price range, the service is just unacceptable. When we were paying, the waitress apologized and said that they need to rush us because all sushi is made to order. Isnt all sushi made to order, regardless of restaurant type???? Part of the unpleasant experience could come from the fact that the staffs are not that fluent in english and german but this does not justify the horrible service.

Good food is only half the battle: Unfortunately, our visit and experience at SAN was marred by the rude and brash service. We reserved a table at 6:30 p.m., which was available to us until 8:00 p.m. A few minutes after our punctual arrival, the waiter asked us if he could take our order. We asked for a little more time. Normally one should treat the guest with understanding, but the waiter pointed out in a not very friendly way that we didn't have much time. Strange start, but good, we are cooperative. But he simply stopped right behind us and continued to “rush”. Less than a minute later he said again, again not in a friendly way: we don't have much time! So my companion and I agreed to at least order the starter. But even that was denied to us by the gentleman - we would have to order EVERYTHING immediately! I already pointed out to him that he was being rude, but in order to give the store another chance, we reluctantly placed the entire order, but the mood had already changed. The finale at the end: at 7:30 p.m. we were brought the bill without us asking for it. It's a shame, and above all not exactly smart as a host, because as a guest you could have possibly ordered a dessert or another drink. We decided to politely point out to the waiter that the specific events made us uncomfortable. He mumbled a short “sorry” and let off steam unnoticed by his colleague behind the sushi counter. Afterwards he stayed there. We paid to a waitress. She apologized to us for his behavior... As good as the food was, it's not something you'll remember, just the feeling that you weren't welcome here. We will neither come back nor recommend the restaurant.

Honestly, it was one of the best dinners in my life. It was just scrumptious! So so delicious. Thank you so much! The only problem is that I have no clue how I’m going to eat sushi elsewhere after this meal/experience. Definitely the money worth spending. Do make a reservation to make sure you get the table and, if you just walk in, try to come earlier than 9pm.

The best sushi restaurant in Berlin! I cannot count how many times I got disappointed about sushi bars in this city, but SAN was great. The waiters were very nice, but we were 3 ppl and got recommended to order 4-5 appetizer dishes cuz 3-ppl set wouldn't make us full. We found it a bit odd

Wonderful Japanese restaurant: high-quality food and very good service.

Don't normally leave a review but SAN needs to be praised. We came spontaneously on a cold Tuesday at 20.15u and were almost instantly seated, perfect! I truly appreciate the atmosphere. The light and acoustics are very good, which in Berlin is hard to come by. The waiters were so nice and helpful and gave good advice. I feel like the whole team and the restaurant are in perfect harmony. All dishes came quickly and looked outstanding. The quality of the fish (and miso) was excellent, each sushi was also very well made and balanced. It tasted like the guy behind the sushi bar was passionate about his work. The nigiri were our favourite. Especially the chu toro, wow. I wish for every sushi lover to have such an experience, and I wish for myself that I may return for more. For two: 2x miso, 2x 0.6l green tea and 1x naha koukou (mix 32 pc) was 109eu excl tip. Was so worth it and not at all the price that some restaurants in Berlin ask for lesser quality than SAN.

AMAZING fish quality, GREAT service and delicious sake. I think it is definitely worth the money and you will not get sashimi and sushi like this anywhere else in Berlin. I really recommend this place! It could be a bit more cozy in terms of lighting and atmosphere but overall I liked the minimalistic interior - very authentic.

Online reservation is a catastrophe, phone reservation not possible at all. It can not be that online reservation weeks ahead does not even give us a confirmation or any kind of information at all. Guess that just means we will never ever bother to visit this restaurant

This is the most authentic Japanese place in the city and the tastier food and sushi I have ever tried. The raw fish specifically,is so fresh it will melt in your mouth. Very high quality food. The waiter will explain in details what you’re eating and where the food comes from. Really impressive and highly recommend it. I will definitely go back!

Small Japanese restaurant with excellent food, the best we have ever tried. That's not expensive, the next thing, for a little more dinners in a 3* Michelin. If you are not German you will have a lot of problems booking and they will ask you for a 50 euro/person deposit. For once it's fine, but not for repeating.

Beat sushi I’ve had in Berlin, the fish and sashimi were soooooo sooooooo good.

As soon as I walked in, the male waiter said, you have a dog so you have to sit by the door. I was very puzzled that my dog is very small and there was nothing written anywhere you have to sit by door if you bring your dog. I and my friend spent 165€ per 2 people dinner and when I have a good quality dinner like that, I would expect a bit better service. The male waiter made faces so many times that I thought he must hate dogs... please probid dogs if you hate them. Then it's fair. The food was great but then there are same price range and great quality restaurants with so much better services in Berlin so I don't see the worth of going back.

Auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert! Dafür aber unbedingt vorab online reservieren, da es drinnen nicht viele Plätze gibt. Netter Ambiente und sehr netter Service. Ganz große Empfehlung für das Agedashi Tofu. Das Sushi war sehr gut, das Nigiri noch etwas mehr als das Sashimi. Der Reis harmoniert wirklich sehr mit dem Fisch! Ich komme gerne wieder.

Excellent Fish. I have feasted on a lot of sushi, and this was as fresh as it can be. Sashimi was excellent. The egg plant starter was the best delicacy of an egg plant.

Sehr unauffällig und schlicht gibt es hier High End Sushi zu fairen Preisen. Der Service war hervorragend. Zwei Dinge sind von Vorteil, a) unbedingt vorher reservieren, b) lassen Sie sich Zeit, wir hatten einen Termin danach, es war absolut schade, dass wir dauernd die Uhr im Blick hatten und letztendlich unruhig waren. Das Sushi wird frisch zubereitet und sofort serviert, die Zubereitung mit dieser Sorgfalt dauert eben etwas. Bravoo, wir kommen gerne wieder, wenn wir das nächste Mal in Berlin sind.

The place is really nice and original. I was there at around 7pm. It was not crowded at all. The tables are available both outdoor and indoor. My friend and I ordered Karaage and Miso soup as starters. Both were amazing, the chicken was crazy crispy. For main course, we order a naha set for 2 people. It was 90€ for 16 pieces of sashimi, 14 nigiri, 6 maki, and 2 ice cream. Everything tasted AMAZING and fresh. Totally money well spent! Apart from the food, we ordered a bottle of Grüner Veltiner (white wine). The taste was pretty mild. We had such a great night and enjoyed the food very much. Though, keep in mind that they charge extra for extra wasabi 😁

We went to SAN to celebrate my birthday. We ordered the Omakase set for 2 people, with some very delicious Agedashi tofu, braised aubergine and Karrage (fried chicken) as starters. The chef explained the dish when serving sashimi to customers, I also enjoyed the presentation and the fresh taste of sashimi! I’d recommend anyone in Berlin who likes authentic Japanese cuisine to visit SAN. :)

War hier einmal und wollte zu einem speziellen Anlass nochmal kommen, doch 200€ für eine Reservierung? Nicht unbedingt kundenfreundlich. Haben uns dann entschieden zu einem anderen Sushi Laden zu gehen.

never managed to eat here, as their table reservation system required all credit card information including CVC number, at the same time they warn that if you don't come at the booked time, they will deduct €50 per person, I have never experienced that before . I understand they don't want reservations that don't come to anything, but they obviously don't want serious customers either

The food here is absolutely excellent. Their chef is amazing. I found the service very polite but also slow. It’s likely to be expected given they have one chef and a pretty large number of tables for the space. The ambiance was a mix of casual and cute, but there were some things that seemed a bit discordant. For example, if I’m paying €70/person, I usually don’t expect to eat with disposable wooden chopsticks.

So this is not a traditional restaurant where you go to have a huge dinner to get full, thus, it will be unfair if it is compared to other traditional places. If you go to this restaurant then you go to try the different tastes of amazing sushi styles prepared by professional Japanese chefs. The amount vs price doesn't matter here, what matters most is the experience and the taste. As expected, the atmosphere is good, the service is good with friendly and cheering chefs, the sushi is prepared professionally with a very high quality and tasty fish. Of course the price is very high but this is justified by the quality and taste you get. I would recommend it for people to try at least once in their life !

Starkes Signature Das Restaurant liegt ungünstig nah an der Hauptstraße, wenn man draußen sitzen will. Alle 10 Minuten hat man Alarm. Der Service macht vieles wett. Nach einigen Missverständnissen haben wir unsere Bestellung platziert. Die Küche ist das Nadelöhr. Daher auch präzise und schnell bestellen. Sushi und Tagesgerichte sind stark. Weinkarte kann auch mithalten. Alles unkomplizierte Flaschen. Definitiv ein Restaurant für den zweiten Besuch. Vielen Dank für alles

Ein kleines und unscheinbares Restaurant, was definitiv eine angenehme und ruhige Atmosphäre hatte. Der Kellner hat uns alles ordentlich erklärt und sehr höflich bedient. Das Essen war schön angerichtet, sehr frisch und lecker!!!! Das musst vorher reservieren, da es nur ein paar Plätze gibt und die Preise sind etwas höher, aber definitiv das Geld wert. Ich empfehle die Gelbschwanzmakrele und den flambierten Lachs! Ich komme aufjedenfall wieder! :-)

Ich wollte für den Geburtstag meines Sohnes im Restaurant San reservieren. Nach mehreren Versuchen war der Anruf erfolgreich, das Personal teilte mir jedoch mit, dass Reservierungen nur online entgegengenommen werden. Ich habe sofort versucht, online zu buchen, aber es gibt ein Problem mit dem Buchungssystem von San. Ich habe eine gültige Telefonnummer eingegeben, aber eine Fehlermeldung wird angezeigt, in der ich aufgefordert werde, eine gültige Telefonnummer einzugeben, und ich kann nicht mit dem nächsten Schritt fortfahren. Ich rief San erneut an, um die Situation zu erklären, aber das Personal antwortete mir nur unaufrichtig und forderte mich auf, eine E-Mail zu senden, und versuchte nicht, mir zu helfen. Ich habe erneut geduldig eine E-Mail geschrieben, aber keine Antwort von San. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob ich den Besuch noch einmal versuchen werde. Denn in Berlin gibt es nach wie vor viele hochwertige Sushi-Restaurants.

Top sushi in Berlin, I haven’t found a spot better. The team who runs it are helpful kind and knowledgeable. The fish is fantastic the sushi chef a true master. The other dishes from the kitchen proper are great additions and beyond tasty. Make a reservation as it’s difficult to get a walk in. Everything about this place is 6 stars!

This place is the embodyment why I dont like Berlin anymore: it is cold without soul, while being pretentious and failing of being more than just mediocre. + half decent sushi in Berlin + sake selection is not bad, but too expensive - 12 nigiri menu for 70 euro: quality could be better, nothing interesting, just the usual - toro was meeh - cold, bland and boring interior, very Berlin - no sake cups: “We dont have those here”. how fancy. drinking sake from wine glasses. you are so special and awesome. - waiter REALLY asks while paying me: “Do you want to put any tip on?” No. The intention of the owner is clear: make money from pretentious Berliners while pretending to offer fancy, high quality sushi and sake. Sadly, but of course, it seems to work.

Went for the menu for 2 with 14 nigiris, 5 makis and sashimi for 78€ and I would order this menu again. It was a good deal for what we received if you were want to try a variety of sushi. Id skip the karaage next time and toro or the fancy special toro. What we truly enjoyed was the scallops, the chu toro aburi and their 6 makis for 12€. Fresh wasabi and high quality fish and ginger. Very authentic Japanese spot! Edit: They increased the price to be 84€ now for two people that includes maki, nigiri and sashimi. It definitely worth an order. Sashimi is incredibly fresh. Have the scallops nigiri flambéed. Tuna maki is not worth 10€, skip that and go with the daily special maki with multiple fish. Their tea is definitely worth an order. SAN is by far the best sushi spot in berlin

Let me say first and foremost that I am NOT an expert on the finer points of sushi. I'm used to the menu at places like Nobu where my go-tos tend to be the yellowtail jalapeno, the sashimi salad with Matsuhisa Dressing, the black cod with miso or, frequently, spicy tuna rolls. Based on what I'm used to, the menu items at SAN were not right for my palate ....I wish I had the same experience as so many of the other reviewers.

Traditional Japanese sushi at its best. The fish is top notch (O-Toro is like butter), the sushi rice (which differentiates the top from the rest) is awesome, and the service very friendly and authentic. Highly recommended. A small gem.

For me the best sushi restaurant in Berlin! Traditional sushi in absolute perfection. Very quiet and cozy atmosphere, perfect service and absolute attention to detail. For true sushi lovers in Berlin, there is no way around this fantastic restaurant. Very important, book in advance!

Overall not a terrible experience but 100% does not justify the price. The quality of the fish is great and you can tell that a lot of effort had been put into highlighting certain flavors such as ponzu and shiso that would be considered as “exotic” here in Germany. But the rice of the sushi is not great, it honestly tasted like they used jasmine rice instead of sushi rice. The quantity is not large and it’s the type of restaurant that charges you extra for every little thing you ask for. If you have a lot of cash to throw around, it’s not a bad place to visit casually. But if you are going for a treat/special occasion, you can probably do better.

Maybe one of the best Japanese restaurant in Berlin. Excellent Sashimi and Sushi with excellent ingredients. Liked the details like soy sauce that doesn't taste salty or wasabi made of real horse radish instead of powder. No chance to get a table without booking.

You won’t feel awkward there if you don’t know how to deal with artichoke or not sure which fish is better with soy sauce and which is better wasabi or salt. Sashimi plate is simply the best one I’ve ever tried.

Wir waren zu Besuch aus Taiwan und wollten ein bisschen Sushi haben. Ich weiß nicht ob wir einfach Pech hatten oder einfach besseren Fisch gewohnt sind aua Taiwan. Es war okay, aber für den Preis würde ich etwas mehr erwarten.

Sehr frisch und lecker, service ist auch ok, sehr authentisch! Kann man noch mal kommen.

By far the best sushi in Berlin .. excellent vibe and service, chefs prepare with passion. Most flavourful fish, the yuzu sauce is incredible. Also the chocolate cake?! to die for.
