Restaurant Oberkrainer am Hauptmarkt in Nürnberg

As a vegetarian, I was very happy that they offered the schnitzel as vegan. Unfortunately the portion size was disappointing. The pork schnitzel made of meat covers the entire plate and as a vegan alternative you get 1 small schnitzel which is perhaps a maximum of 1/3 the size of the meaty schnitzel. Of course for the same price. The meaty food was definitely convincing. Service staff was super nice, unfortunately the landlord himself wasn't. Very unfriendly and harsh.

Franconian hospitality with a beautiful view over the market. Food was tasty and plentiful. Staff very friendly and attentive. My recommendation would be the Schäufele and the Rotbier.

The food is very tasty and served quickly. The staff was very friendly, only the older gentleman was difficult to understand and reacted rudely to “excuse me?” We didn't have to wait long until someone came to take our order. We look forward to having fried dumplings again.

There is no cigarette smell and the food is delicious and not salty^^ Even my young son likes schnitzel. The shoulder meat is soft and the sausage is also good! The staff are also friendly and nice ^^

I stopped here on a whim after reading another review. I had great and friendly service, with delicious food and an amazing view of the church and square. This restaurant is a must try for anyone. If you like amber beer, try their specialty amber!

We were surprised and disappointed given the pretty positive reviews for this place. It was 75% empty on a Saturday night for a start. Our very average tourist-trap food took 50 minutes to arrive. The final straw was being charged €7 for a carafe of what was probably tap water. Avoid.

Sehr gutes Schäufele mit toller Aussicht. Wir waren auf Empfehlung im „Oberkrainer“ und waren genauso begeistert wie unsere Freunde. Super Lage, leicht zu erreichen. Das Restaurant bietet auch für größere Gruppen ausreichend Platz. Neben uns war eine Gruppe mit ca. 25 Personen. Das Restaurant bietet jedoch Platz für geschätzt 100+ Personen. Der Service ist sehr zuvorkommend, jung und wirklich flott. Wünsche wurden erkannt bevor sie ausgesprochen wurden. Das Essen kam trotz recht voller Auslastung zeitig und vor allem für alle gleichzeitig. Zusammengefasst sowohl für Paare, Familien als auch für Gruppen eine ausgezeichnete Wahl!

Der beste Apfelstrudel und Schweinebraten den wir je gegessen haben. Die Klöße selbst gemacht. Die Bratensoße ein Traum. Nur zu empfehlen!

The food is very tasty. When it came to drinks, not everyone at the table got them at the same time. We had to remind the waiter that something was missing before we could toast.

Fantastic personal service from all the staff. This is a family owned and run authentic Nuremberger restaurant in the heart of the Old Town. The food was absolutely delicious and with generous portions that left us feeling like we probably wouldn't need another meal for the rest of the day. Highly recommended not only for the cuisine, but the views are gorgeous as well. Definitely our go to restaurant whenever we stay in Nuremberg.

Soup was with bouillon cubes, Corona Bleu reminded me of Bofrost or Eismann product, beer tap system would have to be adjusted or trained staff would have to be used. Typical tourist bar

Nice view and friendly service. We ordered Nuremberg bratwurst, coleslaw and warm sauerkraut; with potato salad. In our opinion, however, the quality of the food was modest. Guess: sausages from the discount store, cabbage from a can, potato salad from a bucket. The prices are a little high.

The waiter was very nice. I don’t speak deutsh at all and he still made the efforts to explain me every meal, and regularly asked me if everything was okay. I recommend !

Sat on the outside terrace in a wonderful ambience with a view of the main market. The staff was courteous and extremely friendly. Had traditional Franconian dishes like Nuremberg sausages and roast pork and it was very delicious. The dessert is also a feast for the eyes. The restaurant is absolutely recommended if you want to eat delicious food in Nuremberg! We'd love to come back.

Waited almost 40 minutes for 2 bags of schnitzel with canteen fries in an empty shop. There was also a watery sauce. €50 burned!

The traditionally run, typically Bavarian restaurant impressed everyone throughout the evening with friendly and helpful service and traditionally prepared food that everyone enjoyed. We were also impressed by the beers from the region, which gave the whole thing a typically Bavarian flair!

The only positive thing was the view from the terrace on the market square. But you can no longer eat the combination of bratwurst, SAUERkraut and very sour potato salad. So the potato salad was so bad that even one from the supermarket could have tasted better. The worst thing is, for this potato salad you pay extra for the schnitzel. Unfortunately I was blinded by a few reviews. Franconian cuisine was poorly represented here.

If you like it classic, this is the place for you. Great schnitzel and delicious roast pork. However, the potato salad and sauerkraut are too sour, which ruins the enjoyment. Prices are quite high. The service was very friendly. Beautiful view of the main market, simply great ambience.

Oberkrainer is the restaurant where everyone would stay after a day beautiful but tiring. It’s like home, it’s like to meet old friends that take care of you. And the food is really delicious! Highly recommended!

Not recommended at all. In my opinion, the flädle soup and the lamb's lettuce were positive. However, my main meal consisted entirely of ready-made products. I ordered Cordon Bleu with “Grandma’s potato and cucumber salad”. The cordon bleu was frozen, the potato salad was from the refrigerated section (probably from yes!), only the cucumbers on it were fresh. Whoever's grandma made salad like that must have been quite the brat. Service was very slow, only came to the table to take the order and hand over the unsatisfactory food. My motto: great on the outside, poor on the inside. Hands off!

I have no idea how anyone can talk about good food here. The schnitzel couldn't be cut, everything was out of the bag. It's okay, as a tourist restaurant in a hotspot, but please at least keep it at a chip shop level...the service tried very hard to clarify the situation. By the way, there is no children's menu...

Prime location but with 1970s charm. The food is OK, the price-performance ratio is not OK. Unfortunately, people literally beg for tips.

We recently had schnitzel with potato salad here. Unfortunately (as already mentioned) it wasn't beaten and breaded myself. But for the price I definitely expect that. But service, location and location are top.

I was there today, August 3rd, 2024. Was disappointed with the Schäufele, mostly just fat, crust inedible. Afterwards there was apple strudel, a nightmare, decoration was splashes of vanilla sauce, never again.

Very nice atmosphere, great view and nice staff. Schnitzel with potato salad seemed very expensive for the quality. Probably not home-made schnitzel, the taste of the potato salad was suspiciously similar to that of Edeka, Lidl and Co. for us. The taste was still ok.

Great roof terrace with a great view of the town hall including the forecourt. Nice and attentive staff. We ordered the Schäufle without really knowing what it actually was... and were extremely pleasantly surprised. Absolute recommendation - rarely eaten something so delicious. We would be happy to come back the next time we visit Nuremberg. When we visited again a year later, the Schäufle was brilliant again. You won't find a nicer place to sit at the town hall!

The atmosphere is nice, as is the view from the terrace. Unfortunately, you pay for the location with the rather mediocre food. The roast pork and dumpling trio were ok, the Wiener-style schnitzel (i.e. cheap pork) was clearly too expensive (18.90), bone dry and even the fries were so hard that you couldn't spear them with a fork. I know this better from some snack bars with cheaper prices. Side salad was a joke, which consisted solely of lamb's lettuce. We were pretty disappointed. But the service was attentive and the food came quickly.

The view from the terrace is amazing, as you can look directly at the beautiful church. I have quite some dietary restrictions, but the staff was very attentive and left out some ingredients. There are a lot of meat dishes, but the vegan schnitzel is a very tasty alternative!

You can sit comfortably on the roof terrace without the midday sun. Unfortunately, the Schäufele is very small and has no crispy crust. For just under €23 without a side salad or cabbage, I expect more.

The food is bad and overpriced. Our scheufela was clearly burnt when it came out and we had dirt in our salad. Also, on our bill they had added several dishes without asking and over charged us. I have never been served at a place that just kept bringing out sides and upping our charges. Side step a bit of a trap.
