Great view, tasty traditional food, friendly staff - apparently it is family run. It is on the 2nd floor and has a great view of the Marketplatz; when we were there it was full of Christmas market stalls.

The location is unbeatable and the restaurant is beautiful. Lovely views of the square. The waiters were polite. But the food disappointed us. The schnitzel was dry and practically just the breading. And the rest of the dishes were also unremarkable. The quality-price ratio is very unbalanced; it ended up being very expensive for what they offer.

What a lovely place! We are living in Nuremberg on an expat and trying to find the best schäufele. So far this place takes the cake! Tender and a perfect crackling. Service was courteous and fast and the beer was ice cold! The red cabbage was also outstanding. We’ll be back whenever we need a fix of traditional Franconian food.

We were on a school trip in Nuremberg and went to this restaurant with my friends. We were very satisfied — the staff was incredibly nice

I ordered a Schäufele (pork shoulder), it looked quite good, but after three bites I realized it wasn't hot at all, just reheated. So I sent it back. The cook said he'd make a new one, and when it arrived, it was indeed hot, but incredibly tough and wouldn't even come off the bone. Since I was hungry, I at least ate the two tiny dumplings. Oh well... My husband had schnitzel, but the portion was more like a child's schnitzel; it was completely tough and hard. As compensation for the disastrous meal, I was offered schnapps, coffee, and/or apple strudel. I find that unacceptable. When I order food, I expect to actually receive it. We were charged the full amount, which I find outrageous. They certainly won't be seeing us again. Guests at the next table also had schnitzel and were equally dissatisfied.

This is a family run restaurant that started in 1970. Staff and food were amazing! They were so warm and welcoming to us. The food is from “Grandma’s” recipes. The beer was also a local “red” beer that we enjoyed. The view from the restaurant is also amazing. You overlook the markets. Prost!

The roast pork tasted like it had been reheated from the day before, the dumplings were made with pre-made dough. The cordon bleu was small, and the fries were like chips that had been fried multiple times. It was edible, but I have no idea how it got such a good rating. A shame, once was enough.

Fantastic spot to stop in for a beer or a bite. Food is authentic and top notch. Beer is excellent (isn’t it always in Germany?). Staff is friendly and wonderful. The grandmother of the owner started the restaurant 55 years ago and the grandson is running the restaurant with some of the old staff and brother and other friends. Stop in here! You will not regret it!

The food is of high quality: the pork knuckle and sausages are simply spectacular, prepared with authentic Bavarian flavor. The atmosphere is very peaceful and welcoming, ideal for relaxing and enjoying good conversation. Furthermore, the views of the square are beautiful, adding a special touch to the experience. The only downside is that the price of water is quite high, something to keep in mind. I was in Nuremberg alone for a business trip one evening. I wanted to try the traditional Nuremberg Rostbratwurst (grilled sausages) and spontaneously chose the Oberkrainer (a type of sausage). I had the Nuremberg Rostbratwurst with sauerkraut and potato salad, and it tasted exactly as I'd hoped – very delicious. What the other guests had on their plates also looked delicious. The service was very attentive and friendly. It was a lovely experience, thank you!

Their food is ok but certainly not in line with the reviews posted on Google. Their soup is certainly below par and needs a major rethink/redone. We had the two local porc dishes which were fine but nothing really special. Overall a decent restaurant but certainly not in line with the current reviews rating.

Food for two arrived five minutes late; instead of the ordered Franconian semi-dry wine (€32 per bottle), a bottle of dry French Blanchet arrived (costing €4-5 wholesale). After pointing this out, it was replaced with a different wine. Only the partially used Blanchet was left unpaid. The staff apologized, explaining that the ordered wine was no longer available and they had forgotten to mention it. The water carafe wasn't entirely clean (there was parsley on the inside rim). The restaurant makes a better impression from the outside.

We were in Nuremberg for just one day, which happened to be the opening day of the Christmas Market. Unfortunately, we chose Restaurant Oberkrainer at the Hauptmarkt – a complete mistake and a total rip-off. The service was anything but friendly. We felt rushed throughout the meal, and the staff seemed eager to clear the tables even before we had finished eating. As a starter, we were served a completely tasteless soup, followed by one of the worst schnitzels we have ever had. The meat was of very poor quality, and the potato salad was so bad it put German cuisine to shame. Truly pathetic. For dessert, we were given some kind of mousse in a cup labeled “tiramisu.” It tasted nothing like tiramisu at all. The regular menu was not available, we were forced to choose from a preset menu. For four people, we were charged an outrageous €300, even though a comparable meal would normally cost between €120 and €150. This was nothing less than a brazen rip-off. Had the quality and taste been acceptable, we might not have minded the price tag. But with such mediocre, indeed downright awful food, the experience left a very bad impression. We will most certainly never return to this restaurant.

I would have given 0 stars if possible. I visited on the first day of the Christmas market, and the experience was a complete rip-off. A menu that should have cost no more than 20 Euros was sold at three times the price. The service was just as disappointing—plates were cleared while we were still eating, which felt rushed and disrespectful. The food itself was below average: the schnitzel was overdone, the soup tasteless, and the tiramisu practically inedible. Drinks were outrageously expensive, adding insult to injury. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. I left feeling cheated and dissatisfied. Definitely not worth the visit.

For food of this quality, the price was outrageous and felt like a deliberate rip-off. Instead of leaving with fond memories of Nuremberg’s hospitality, we walked away frustrated and dissatisfied. This is not a place we would ever return to, nor recommend to others.

We visited the Christmas market and had a very good meal here. Even though all the tables were full, we still got a seat and the drinks and food arrived very quickly. Everything was great.

My wife and I felt misled when we sat down and were immediately given the set menu. At no point were we offered a choice, and the set menu had no prices listed, nor were we informed of the cost. We received a very small soup, a main course, and a dessert. Although the hot wine was included, the total came to €149 for two—double what we would have expected to pay. It was a very disappointing end to our evening. Be aware that the set menu is €69 per person, which is far too much for what you receive. If you go, ask for the regular menu instead; main courses are around €25, plus drinks.

I had roast pork, two thin slices with two small dumplings and red cabbage, and one beer -> €33! The food arrived before the drinks... only averagely tasty, not much of a rustic atmosphere.

We got a table at short notice, received very friendly service, and had a very, very delicious meal! We wholeheartedly recommend this family-run establishment.

Despite the size of the group, everything ran smoothly: top quality, fresh and delicious dishes, quick service, and truly outstanding service. Delicious! The schnitzel was tasty. The trio of dumplings was at the top of my list. We had the rosti fries as an appetiser. The view is across from the Christmas market.

The food is delicious, and the staff is friendly. The ambiance is okay, but it feels dated. Despite the excellent Schäufele (pork shoulder), it's unfortunately too expensive. The fact that the men's restroom was closed is also a drawback.

As for the food, the Franconian cuisine is absolutely my favorite, and the prices are really reasonable if you're not from Franconia. I would definitely recommend it as a tourist. Nuremberg residents are sure to know it.
