Wir waren rundum zufrieden. Das Essen war sehr lecker, frisch zubereitet und schön angerichtet. Der Service war freundlich, aufmerksam und schnell. Auch das Ambiente war gemütlich und einladend. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und kommen gerne wieder. Klare Empfehlung!

Gemütliches Lokal mit freundlichem Personal und gutem Essen

Eine Oase am Kanal, das Restaurant ist schön eingerichtet, das Personal sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Alles, was wir serviert bekamen, war handwerklich hervorragend zubereitet und schmeckt göttlich. Wir waren in Gesellschaft mit 20 Personen, aßen zweierlei Spargel mit Kartoffeln, Holländische Sauce, gebratene Pute und Roastbeef und Gemüse. Nachtisch war eine Rhabarbertarte mit Eis und dann gab es noch Kaffee und Kuchen. Alles hervorragend!

Am Eingangstresen wurden wir nett begrüßt. Dann haben wir in dem Bereich mit dem schönen Kanalblick Platt genommen. Es waren noch 2 andere Tische besetzt. Und dann ist nichts mehr passiert. Die Kellnerin hat uns gesehen, aber weder begrüßt noch haben wir eine Karte bekommen. Nach 15 Minuten sind wir gegangen. Beim rausgehen standen 7 Servicekräfte am Tresen und haben sich blenden miteinander unterhalten. Keine weitere Reaktion zu uns. So geht man nicht mit Gästen um. Sehr schade.

Wir waren an einem Samstagabend da und waren begeistert! Wir saßen in einem separaten Raum und hatten dadurch natürlich etwas mehr Ruhe aber trotz voller Tische, war der Service sehr freundlich und persönlich. Das Essen schmeckte sehr lecker, war heiß und sättigend. Die Preise sind gehobener Klasse aber der Leistung entsprechend. Auch unser Sohn wurde gleich zu Beginn mit Malstiften und Blättern versorgt. Wenn das Wetter besser gewesen wäre, dann hätte er auch noch auf einem coolem Piraten Schiff im Garten spielen können. Wir hatten auf jeden Fall einen schönen Aufenthalt und kommen gerne wieder.

Auf unsere Mail bezüglich einer Anfrage zur Reservierung für mehrere Personen, erhielten wir auch nach 1 Woche immer noch keine Reaktion oder gar Antwort. Entweder hat man es nicht nötig, ist überfordert, oder hat einfach nur einen sehr schlechten Service. Egal wie herum, wir sind nicht mehr interessiert und können diesen Laden nicht empfehlen. Wir streichen den einfach aus unserem Repertoire.

Leckeres Frühstück, reichlich Auswahl. Tolle Aussicht auf den Kanal

Positives Vorweg, die Limos waren sehr lecker. Das Personal war sehr unfreundlich. In der Karte steht zur Kuchenauswahl „Fragen sie gerne unser Personal nach dem heutigen Angebot“ dann wird nur patzig geantwortet „haben sie nicht geguckt?!“. An den Torten/Kuchen standen keine Schilder (woher soll ich also die Sorten wissen?). Nach über einer Stunde warten auf den Kuchen haben wir’s aufgegeben und sind gegangen. Dann wurde sich nicht einmal entschuldigt für die lange Wartezeit…Schade

Ich dachte nach der Aussicht, dass eine Einkehr für Kuchen und Waffel eine gute Idee wäre. Damit lag ich wohl komplett daneben. Ja es ist viel los, aber der Keller war unfreundlich und schnippisch. In der Karte steht aufgrund der wechselnden Kuchenauswahl solle man fragen, das haben wir getan. Dann wurden wir angezickt, dass dort in der Auslage Schilder stünden. Es standen dort keine und der Kellner konnte uns auch keine Zeigen. Eine Entschuldigung war nicht drin. Nach 1 Stunde warten haben wir die 4 Limos bezahlt und sind gegangen. Für zwei Stück Kuchen, Waffel und eine Kräuter-Roulade so lange zu warten kann ja an einem Sonntag nicht sein. Und dann beim Gehen noch besserwisserisch rumzicken geht gar nicht.

Wir essen immer sehr gerne dort. Gute Qualität.

Wir haben hier mit knapp 100 Leuten unsere Hochzeit gefeiert und das Restaurant dafür als geschlossene Gesellschaft den ganzen Tag komplett für uns haben können. Das hat auch alles super geklappt. Catriona war unsere Ansprechpartnerin und hat sich super lieb um alles gekümmert. Wir haben uns immer gut betreut gefühlt und auch das gesamte Team hat die Feier echt schön begleitet. Die Zusammenstellung des Essens war sehr frei (im ausführlichen Gespräch mit dem Koch Bernd) und wich sehr von der normalen Karte ab. Trotzdem hat es uns und allen Gästen sehr gut geschmeckt. Wir waren rundum zufrieden!

Leider sind die Büsche und Sträucher zum Kanal sehr gewachsen und man kann nicht mehr so schön den Kanal sehen wie früher

Wir sind hier meistens zum Kaffe und Kuchen Das ist wirklich jedes Mal wieder sehr lecker Aber das Personal ist einfach furchtbar, nicht Kundenotientiert, nicht sonderlich freundlich und definitiv nicht geschult.

Schönes Café direkt am Kanal - Zwischenstopp mit dem Rad. Beim Kaffee und leckeren Kuchenstück - Preis war okay - kann man herrlich Schiffe beobachten und die Landschaft genießen.

Der Service ist der absolute Höhepunkt. Besser geht es nicht. Das Essen war sehr sehr lecker. Ein rundum gelungenes Fest für uns.

Ein wirklich wunderschöner Ort für eine kleine Kaffeepause. Wir saßen bei Sonnenschein draußen im gemütlichen Biergarten mit Blick auf den Nord-Ostsee-Kanal – einfach herrlich. Die frische Torte war sehr lecker und die Atmosphäre mit Strandkorb und vorbeiziehenden Schiffen etwas ganz Besonderes. Eine rundum tolle, entspannte Kaffeezeit!

Wir waren in großer Gruppe zum Osterbrunch dort und wurden vom Buffet enttäuscht. Während es die letzten Jahren eine breite Auswahl frischer Gerichte gab, wurde dieses Jahr vermehrt auf qualitativ schlechtere convenience-Alternativen gesetzt. Ausser Lamm wurde auf hochwertiges Fleisch verzichtet. Viele Speisen wie die Salate waren ambitionslos und wirkten wie Lückenfüller. Der Kaiserschmarn war geschmacklich auf dem Niveau von Fertigtütten aus dem Handel. Der Blechkuchen trocken, die Zimtsterne und Brezeln hart. Saft gibt es auch nicht mehr. Getränke konnten auch nicht separat bestellt werden. Dass der Laden trotz Feiertage nur leicht gefüllt war, spricht Bände. Für 50€/Person stimmt die Leistung einfach nicht. Man ruht sich leider auf die Lage aus. Wir werden nächstes Jahr definitv nicht nochmal kommen.

Tolles Buffet. Sehr netter und aufmerksamer Service. Tolles Ambiente. Nicht so überfüllt, wie in anderen Lokalitäten und deshalb auch angenehme Atmosphäre. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.

Schöner Blick auf den Nord-Ostsee Kanal

Wir waren am 1. Weihnachtstag zum ersten Mal dort essen. Leider hat es uns nicht so gut gefallen. Die Bedienung war recht forsch, immer knapp an der Grenze zum unfreundlichen. Die Menüs waren relativ teuer, daher hatten wir auch gewisse Erwartungen. Meine Frau hatte den Salat als Vorspeise, der ihr gar nicht gefallen hat, weil er langweilig war und die Croutons waren weich. Ich hatte die Suppe, eine klare Brühe mit 2 Fleischklößen - für den Preis ein bisschen zu wenig. Der Hauptgang mit der Gans war dann eigentlich ganz gut, stand also einigermaßen im Verhältnis zum Preis. Der Nachtisch hingegen wieder nicht.

War zum Kaffee trinken hier... Der Ist sehr gut & auch die Waffel war lecker. Einziger Verbesserungsvorschlag wäre die Grütze zur Waffel heiß zu servieren... Trotzdem werde ich hier gern wiederkommen & auch das Essen probieren. Der Service war sehr freundlich.

Wahr nur zum Kaffee trinken im Restaurant 14 Uhr super Bedienung zu essen gibt es ab 17 Uhr haben aber schon mal Gegessen ist super würde wieder kommen

Wir waren vergangene Woche zu viert in diesem Restaurant essen. Einmal und nie wieder. Unabhängig davon, dass Spinnweben von der Decke runter hängen, stimmt das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis absolut nicht. Mit Kritik kann der Restaurant Betreiber gar nicht umgehen. Einfach rausgeworfenes Geld. Sehr schade.

Ein wirkliches schönes Restaurant am Kanal mit toller Aussicht. Wir waren dort zum ersten Mal und haben uns besonders über den tollen Platz mit direkt Blick aut den NOK gefreut. Zu Essen gab es für uns diesmal aus zeitlichen Gründen nur ein Stück Kuchen und einen heißen Kakao. Aber beides war mega lecker und sehr zu empfehlen. Das was wir jedoch an richtigen Speisen neben uns gesehen hatten, sehr super lecker aus und so roch es auch. Die Auswahl auf der Speisekarte machte ebenso einen tollen Eindruck. Es wartet einen schon mehr Hausmannskost aber toll angerichtet und mit eigenem Stil. Jedes Gericht ist irgendwo auch etwas Besonderes. Wir kommen gerne nochmal wieder und probieren dann auch mal die warmen Speisen. 4 Sterne gibt es jedoch leider nur da wir mit dem Personal nicht zufrieden waren. Alles wirkte sehr kühl und unfreundlich. Wenn man es in 2 Stunden die wir da waren, nicht hinbekommt einmal zu lächeln oder dem Gast hin und wieder in die Augen zu schauen, dann läuft dort etwas verkehrt. Etwas schade

Ich war nun schon einige Male dort zum Essen und auch letztes Jahr am 1. Weihnachtsfeiertag. Dieses Jahr konnte das Essen leider nicht überzeugen, es war nicht super schlecht aber auch nicht herausragend. Der Hauptgang kam nur so auf den Teller, ohne Deko, ohne Liebe. Für den Preis erwarte ich, dass mein Teller nicht wie in einer Kantine aussieht. Es fehlte einfach im Ganzen an Herzlichkeit, vor allem von der Dame, die uns bediente. Ich möchte mich an dieser Stelle jedoch bei Ihrem Kellner - (Runner oder Leitung? Er trug zumindest kein Portmonee bei sich) - bedanken, der uns trotz der Enttäuschung, mit seiner herzlichen, authentischen und wirklich sehr sympathischen Art ein Lächeln ins Gesicht gezaubert hat. Er hat wirklich einen sehr guten Job gemacht, davon hätten wir uns an dem Abend mehr gewünscht!! Wir werden im nächsten Jahr zum 1. Weihnachtsfeiertag leider nicht wieder kommen, das finden wir sehr schade.

Wir waren am ersten Weihnachtsfeiertag mit neun Personen zu Gast und haben nahezu alle angebotenen Gerichte probiert. Leider konnte weder das Essen noch der Service überzeugen. • Die Gans war nicht knusprig, insgesamt sehr fade und geschmacklich enttäuschend. • Der Kabeljau war zwar akzeptabel, das dazu servierte Wintergemüse jedoch größtenteils roh – insbesondere Rüben, Karotten und Rosenkohl waren kaum genießbar. • Die Rote Bete im Blätterteig wurde nahezu kalt serviert. • Vorspeisensalat und Suppe fielen extrem klein aus. Ein Preis von 15 € für einen sehr kleinen Salat, der fast ausschließlich aus etwas Feldsalat bestand, ist in keiner Weise gerechtfertigt. Reklamationen wurden zwar aufgenommen, die nachgebesserten Gerichte waren jedoch weiterhin nur mäßig verbessert; das Gemüse war beispielsweise auch danach noch fast roh. Der Service entsprach ebenfalls nicht dem Niveau, das man bei den aufgerufenen Preisen und insbesondere an einem Weihnachtsfeiertag erwarten darf. Bestellungen wurden quer durch den Raum zugerufen, anstatt die Gäste am Tisch zu bedienen. Die Gerichte wurden über den Tisch hinweg gereicht, teilweise falsch serviert, und das Personal quetschte sich häufig zwischen den Gästen hindurch. Besonders negativ fiel der unfreundliche Umgang mit Gästen auf, die höflich nach einer Alternative für ihre Kinder gefragt hatten.

My restaurant visit wasn't anything special; the food was okay, but nothing extraordinary. The service was adequate, and the location was lovely, but that's about it. Because of the quality, which I personally found lacking, I wouldn't come back.

Breakfast is good, but far too short. These days, you're asked to leave at 11:30 a.m. and aren't allowed to stay any longer. Shortly before 11:30 a.m., you're asked to leave and the tables are cleared. What's completely unacceptable is that breakfast is already being prepared at 11:00 a.m., or rather, quickly. And then the kitchen staff says, "We're allowed to do that..." Well, I'm paying for it... The scrambled eggs are lacking in seasoning! The ambiance is great, and so is the children's playground. Someone actually thought of that! Drinks are included in the price, which is a big plus. However, it's only water, tea, coffee, and apple juice. It's a decent breakfast overall, with everything you need. If these points of criticism were taken into account, it would be even better.

Very nice location...cozy and delicious food

We were looking forward to the roast goose and weren't disappointed. For a starter, we had the beef carpaccio. Breast and leg came with bread rolls and potato dumplings, accompanied by a delicious sauce. Everything was piping hot, and the service was quick and friendly. Even extra sauce was no problem. It was a world of difference compared to our first visit six months ago. The kitchen has improved significantly.

We had to wait an extremely long time for our food, the Spätzle were burnt, and the portions were expensive and small. Furthermore, we were seated against the outside wall, where our heads were burning from the patio heater, but our feet were freezing from the icy draft on the floor. We won't be eating there again.

Yesterday, we spontaneously went there with friends for coffee and waffles. We received a very friendly welcome and had a lovely table. The waffles were absolutely delicious! 😋 In short, everything was perfect for us, and we'd love to come back.

A very nice restaurant in a unique location on the Kiel Canal. We arrived unexpectedly at lunchtime and were warmly greeted. Despite not having a reservation, we were given an excellent table on the covered terrace with a magnificent view of the canal. The lunch menu was concise and offered something for everyone. Very reasonable prices. Friendly and attentive service. The food was excellent; absolutely nothing to criticize. We will definitely be back.

A very cozy location. The waitress was very friendly and asked if we needed anything. I can't comment on the food because we didn't eat anything. But it looked very appetizing.

We celebrated our civil wedding in a small setting at Margaretental. They responded quickly to our rather short-notice request, and all of our special requests and requirements were taken into account. Everything went smoothly and smoothly. All of the guests enjoyed the food, and the service was friendly, conscientious, and unobtrusive. We went to the Margaretental restaurant on recommendation and would recommend it anytime! 😊

We had a wonderful evening with friends on October 15, 2025, with a great atmosphere, friendly service, and wonderful food like Labskaus, roast beef, and venison. 🥰 We'll definitely be back here again. 👍

The location is truly beautiful, but upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted less than politely, even though we had reserved a table. The service wasn't particularly friendly either. We sat there for a long time and waited for another waiter to come and pay.

Delicious breakfast buffet, friendly staff, great view. We'd be happy to come back. My guests and I were very satisfied.

This is my third time at this restaurant – actually because I quite like the location, with its waterfront view, and the friendly staff. Unfortunately, one problem persists: Once again, not everything on the menu was available. Several dishes I was looking forward to were "just out of stock." Of course, that happens sometimes, but when it happens regularly, it's simply disappointing. What was served was at least solid – the food was tasty, but nothing special. The portions were decent, and the service really tried to make the best of the situation. However, the restaurant was once again lacking in flexibility: We wanted to sit outside by the playground because of the children, but unfortunately, that wasn't possible – even though there were still tables available there. That was a shame and further spoiled the overall impression. Conclusion: Not a bad restaurant, but the constant lack of dishes and the lack of flexibility take away the charm of the visit. If they can get this under control, I'd be happy to come back. Until then, unfortunately, only mediocre.

I was here yesterday on October 3rd for a cappuccino and a piece of cake, but had to sit outside as there were no seats inside. As it was very cold, I asked for a blanket. I was told that blankets are only for inside, not outside. I thought that was a joke, but it wasn't. Now I'm asking myself why do you need blankets inside and not outside where it's cool and windy?

Very good restaurant with a great view of the NOK

We were there for the breakfast buffet. A nice selection, and the food was restocked until the last drop. The staff was very friendly.

I can't recommend it. Four of us went for lunch. Three different dishes. Unfortunately, all of them were soooo bad... We were disappointed. We chose this restaurant on recommendation... Definitely not recommend it!!! The chef came to our table and, in our opinion, made excuses. The service was very nice and efficient. Too bad... But everything has to be perfect...Not just the view!!!

The food, no matter what dish we had, was returned. It was inedible. We were given a full bill, but we won't be coming back.

The menu is very straightforward, which is a positive in this case. It allows you to focus on the dishes available to order. Everything is very tasty, and the portions are very generous. I definitely recommend it.

The food is simply terrible. We've been there several times, and for about a year now, the quality of the food and the service have been declining dramatically. Even the view of the canal doesn't help.

Beautiful place directly on the NE canal

Despite having three employees alone serving, we had to wait more than 20 minutes before someone bothered to take our order. That's not what good service looks like.

The young lady who asked us to leave the restaurant at 11:30 a.m. was very rude and made us very uncomfortable with her loud voice. I don't think I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!! The food and all the young men (students) were very accommodating.

The outdoor area, with a covered terrace and additional tables in the garden, offers a sensational, elevated view of the Kiel Canal and the passing ships (without the noisy ship greetings like in Rendsburg). The interior is also beautifully decorated. The food is very good, except for one slip-up—but never mind that. The service is excellent, including the sense of humor. 😊

The food, service, and ambiance deserve 5 stars. We're delighted that this historic house, which lay dormant for many years, has become such a wonderful restaurant with a café and beer garden overlooking the Kiel Canal. Thank you!!! 😊

If you prefer mushy salad to fresh melon, this is the place for you. Very disappointing. I remembered the quality being much better. Despite a friendly comment, there was no response from the service.

The dinner was always delicious and plentiful

A very pleasant atmosphere with delicious food. There are lovely outdoor seating areas, in the conservatory, and inside. The price/performance ratio is right. With a view of the canal. Plenty of parking is also nearby. There's a playground. I was very pleased that the very friendly chef came to our table and answered our questions about the food. 👍I would have given it 6 stars.

I've always enjoyed eating at the Margaretental, but unfortunately, the food has deteriorated considerably in recent weeks. The atmosphere among the staff suddenly seems very tense, and one waitress even cried during our last visit. We'd actually like to come back and hope for better food and a nicer atmosphere next time.

I don't often write reviews, but we were very disappointed with the food at this restaurant 😞 The veal schnitzel was tough, the salad was tasteless and old, and the fries were cold. The view of the Kiel Canal was great. The playground was great, too. The food in the restaurant was not so great.

A place of peace and relaxation on the Kiel Canal. It's an ideal starting point for walks along the Kiel Canal. And after your walk, the Margaretental valley invites you to take a coffee break.

The location is, of course, top-notch. The rooms are as well. Everything is very nice, new, and modern. We were there today for breakfast/brunch. Well... the menu is published on the website, but some items were still out of stock, especially standard items like honey. There were three types of jam and Nutella, that's it, no honey. A fruit salad was promised, but nothing. They only served a watermelon. The waffles were charred and inedible, so the buffet didn't match the location, so you shouldn't go there for the food, just for the location itself. The heaters kept going out, and no one took care of them. The service was bored and standing around. A shame. But the fried eggs were very tasty. Otherwise, the rolls were uncooked, which is a real shame... Unfortunately, the plates weren't clean; almost all of them had some kind of stain.

Unfortunately no longer recommended due to a change in management. We were there for breakfast on July 26, 2025. Nothing exceptional. Fried eggs were placed on a plate with NO spit guard/cover and some of them were cold. The previous owner had just fried them and asked what kind of egg dish we wanted. The orange juice was watered down with ice cubes, the butter was missing the first time around, some of the cheese was dry, and all without covers! The small sausages were fried but unfortunately already cold, and no further meat was brought. Breakfast was from 9:30 to 11:30! At 11:10 we were given quite abrasive comments by the waitress with the black braid that we had to be out in 20 minutes at the latest. During the entire time, no one asked if we wanted any other drinks. The tables outside were very poorly maintained, not even a roof for smokers. There is still a lot of improvement/further training to be done here! NOT AGAIN for us. It's a shame, but a good location doesn't necessarily make a good restaurant!

Unfortunately, we were sent out of the restaurant. We arrived at 11:30 a.m. and wanted to eat. The server asked us to leave. They told us breakfast had just ended and they needed to clear up. We weren't allowed to sit down. Since it was raining outside, we left. It's a shame, actually, we were actually trying to check it out for a family celebration. We drove the extra 20 km. It would be good to announce this on the website if it's not open all day.

The location right on the canal is fantastic—you can watch the boats pass by while you eat. The food and drinks are of a good country inn standard. Always worth a visit!

Hey, I ate here with a friend and I have to say that we can't really recommend this restaurant. We both ordered a salad (goat cheese and chicken breast), which we often eat there, and apparently the recipe had been changed... this time we were unfortunately really disappointed and generally didn't have a good feeling about the visit. The portions were very small and tasted completely different than usual, and the salad contained ingredients that didn't go at all with the dish we were used to. The cakes are also unfortunately not what they used to be... it feels like they've switched from homemade cakes to ready-made cakes. But the service was great, as always.

Update: I was there again for a class reunion. I have to say the service was very good and attentive this time. Even the more than 35 meals arrived at almost the same time. This is all the more remarkable given that everyone ordered from the menu, so the kitchen couldn't react until we arrived. Hence the update to 4 stars. The location is great, that's the best part. The service is attentive, but there's room for improvement. But the 20 guests, without exception, found the cakes and waffles only mediocre to poor. We certainly could have had more to drink, but we couldn't stay any longer because the table was about to be booked again. For my part, this was definitely my last time here.

The food (pannfish) was unfortunately a bit too little for the price. Instead of the three kinds of fish described on the menu, there were only two types. The fried potatoes, although good, were also a bit meager. The side salad with the roast beef was a bit lacking in taste; the broccoli was so big and hard that you couldn't eat it. We were very disappointed with the dessert (Pavlova). The chef should take another look at the recipe. It was just a scoop of vanilla ice cream on meringue with strawberries that weren't really that fresh anymore. It had nothing to do with Pavlova, and the price of €9.50 was far too high. But the staff were very nice and attentive.

A very nice restaurant with a view of the Kiel Canal! A variety of ships, from very large to small, pass by regularly! There's also a nice playground with opportunities for climbing and playing. The food is delicious, but the prices are a bit high!

Good food, unfortunately a bit expensive. Poor service, but a nice location on the canal. There's a playground for children behind the house, so it's otherwise not child-friendly.

The food was abysmal, the worst veal schnitzel I've ever eaten. Absolutely not recommended!

Lunch, herring, simply delicious. Fried potatoes cooked to perfection. Not too greasy, crispy without being burnt. The house lime and mint lemonade was top-notch. The salad was fresh, the espresso was quick, hot, and aromatic. I'll be back. Soon on the terrace overlooking the canal.👍👍

We were here for breakfast today. We were seated in the larger dining room, which was very nice and had very comfortable chairs. The extensive buffet left nothing to be desired and was of high quality. The service was very attentive, and food was constantly being refilled. Definitely worth a visit!!!
