Really really good. Just like you imagine when you want to go out for something “better” to eat. Sure, it costs a little more than a McMenu or a taxi plate from your favorite Greek restaurant, but it's absolutely worth it.

I celebrated my birthday here with 28 people. My expectations were more than met. It started with the ambiance and the excellent menu, and ended with your attentive and friendly staff. We'd love to come back.

Good food, nice staff and a good atmosphere

The menu at the menu carousel was excellent. The service is friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere is unique.

The food and service were exemplary and approachable at all times. The ambiance was unparalleled. Open for anything, whether it was just a cold beer or coffee and cake or lunch, there was something for everyone. We took a Gropper beer home with us as a souvenir for our next visit. Thanks again for the warm welcome, even though we were stylishly equipped for a ride on our e-scooters.

In this beautiful atmosphere, we unfortunately had a rather negative experience: after we were assigned our table, we were largely ignored. We then had to actively speak to the waitress twice in the following 15 minutes to order both drinks and food. At this point, the space was around 30% full. You wait in vain for the “greetings from the kitchen” that is usual given the price level and demands of the restaurant. When we then asked for bread for the main course, the waitress explained to us that the dish already contained enough carbohydrates and we had to ask for bread again. The quality and taste of the dishes we ordered also didn't match the requirements: for example, the boiled potatoes were obviously warmed up and the bowl was missing the quinoa promised on the menu. Overall, the service team seems overwhelmed, poorly coordinated and not very professional, especially since the capacity utilization was rather low at the time of our visit.

We celebrated our civil wedding in the Knights' Hall and had a wonderful day. The food was great (very high quality!) and the service was great too. We have only received positive feedback from our guests. Thanks so much!

We had the menus from the menu carousel. Once vegetarian and once the meat version with duck. Both menus were excellent. The service was also very good. For us it was simply a successful evening.

We celebrated our wedding in this location last summer. There was a change of ownership between the reservation of the room and the celebration, which meant that some arrangements had to be made again. However, apart from a few price adjustments, this was not a major problem. The face-to-face arrangements went well, while communication via email was a little more challenging. For example, we asked for a cost estimate several times, but it was not provided. On the day of the celebration, we arrived at 3 p.m. as planned and were warmly welcomed by the service staff, who had already prepared a champagne reception. It was also possible to order an ice cream truck to distribute ice cream on the farm. At 6:30 p.m. our agreed menu was served, which was very tasty and met our expectations. However, contrary to what was discussed, the food was dismantled after about two hours, although we assumed that it would be left longer so that guests could help themselves. Additionally, we weren't asked if we wanted to take leftovers that we paid for with us, which we would have gladly done. At dusk we asked for fire bowls outside to roast marshmallows. These should be provided by the location. When we asked, it turned out that the service team was not informed about this. There was also a situation in which the service team came to me around 11 p.m. and commented that the 8-hour drinks flat rate was now over. It was originally agreed that the flat rate would apply until the end of the event, which was ultimately implemented. One unfortunate point was that the midnight snack that I had booked in advance via email was forgotten and I was only told about this when I asked. Unfortunately, it was no longer possible to get a replacement at this point. Overall, the location offers a nice ambience, plenty of parking and a good selection of food. The toilets are spacious, and both the dance floor and the outdoor area have enough space. The drinks menu is also very appealing. The location was also understanding and accommodating when a death occurred five days before the wedding and some guests had to cancel at short notice. However, after all the planning, a few small details would have made this day even more memorable.

We were there on Saturday with 4 people for the menu carousel. It was an all-round successful evening, nice ambience, delicious food and I would like to highlight the super good service. Despite the lack of staff, the cellar was simply great, you couldn't do it better

We were in the Burgstuben Essen back then and were treated like the last people. Food was OK. In general, judging by the waitress's reaction, card payment was a problem and the atmosphere was generally quite unsympathetic and oppressive. We were banished to a table in the far corner. Apart from us, the only other people sitting in the next room were the Frankenstein family (presumably regulars).

Incredibly good and attentive service, very tasty food, great ambience! There were twelve of us and we all got our hot food at the same time. We'd love to come back!!

Unfortunately, the Christmas menu for a whopping €70 doesn't do justice to its price. While the main course (roast beef) was certainly convincing, the starter in particular left more than to be desired. Unfortunately, there is also sometimes very unprofessional behavior from a service staff. There was a consistent lack of professionalism both when clearing things up and when making simple inquiries. However, the rest of the service was very friendly and helpful! Overall tasty but not justified in terms of price.

Unfortunately there was a catastrophic parking situation at a company event, so I didn't stay and can't rate anything.

Haus Kemnade offers a pleasant feel-good atmosphere inside and out. Although the rooms are not barrier-free, they are still very easy to reach. The finely designed interior was a fitting contrast to the rustic brickwork, surprisingly warm despite yesterday's freezing weather. The service staff were 👍🏼top👍🏼, always on hand with drinks and dishes, friendly and above all helpful. The food (buffet) was a feast for the eyes and the palate (pumpkin soup and game ragout were my favorites), incredibly delicious. Here too, constant attention was paid to freshness, order and cleanliness. So I say, gladly again and definitely 5*****

Very tasty goose dinner. The goose menu is well thought out, the portions are decent. Price-performance is right. The chair covers are nice, but unfortunately there is a lack of legroom.

A fantastic location. We had the goose for four, cut up at the table. Really everything about the food was first class prepared and very tasty. The ambience and service were in no way inferior to the food.

Today we were back at Haus Kemnade after a long time. The food was very good, but unfortunately the price-performance ratio was poor Ravioli filled with pumpkin and amarettini Roasted walnut | Goat cream cheese melted tomato fried rocket for €18.50 disappointing in contrast to the schnitzel for €22.90. In addition, an ingredient that was advertised was not included (walnuts), which were then added in a small bowl without a word of apology. That's a shame. So unfortunately no recommendation for vegetarians, they get their money's worth but don't get full...

Ansprechendes Ambiente, zuvorkommender Service gepaart mit sehr guter Küche, so kann unsere Erfahrung beschrieben werden. Wir hatten diverse Gerichte, vom Gänsebraten mit Knödeln über Lendchen mit Bratkartoffeln, Suppe, Garnelen, Rinderroulade bis zur Salatbowl. Alles war zu unserer uneingeschränkten Zufriedenheit . Sonderwünsche waren auch kein Problem . Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Abend.

Recommended for old and young. They are very child friendly. Also very fond of animals, dogs are allowed to be brought into the museum on a leash. The staff is very friendly, helpful and nice. The employees of the support association are also a dream. Simply recommended

This was our second time eating there. The daycare child and dog were warmly welcomed after the walk. The opening times can be wonderfully combined with activities with the family in the area. The menu reads well, the food was good and the service was great. Friendly, authentic, customer-oriented and attentive. Unfortunately it's not that common these days, but you really feel welcome here as a guest and you go home afterwards feeling like you had a really good time in this house. It's worth it!

The food is excellent, everyone is very friendly and the atmosphere is great. We had dinner with a group at Haus Kemnade. Personally, we always enjoy being there.

The food was very disappointing, which is a real shame given such a lovely atmosphere. Had the beef steak and it was just tough like chewing gum, the small potatoes with it were like small stones. The waiter gave the impression that he didn't want to do his job and kept us waiting for a long time. Very disappointing.

Great location, schnitzel was very good and tasty! Unfortunately, the soups and sauces were not homemade and the burger was also a ready-made patty.

We had booked a table at 8:15 p.m. in the Knights' Hall through Open Table. When we arrived at 8 p.m. we were told that we were already very late, that the kitchen was almost closed and that we urgently needed to talk to Open Table about it. You couldn't go into the restaurant itself anyway, only the beer garden was possible. They kindly agreed to cook something else. We then chose the summer menu so that we could still get something. The food was solid, tomato/burrata, the main course was pike perch with chanterelles and for dessert there was ice cream with fruit. But I was expecting something different based on the menu and descriptions, as there was the usual parsley garnish and a lack of spices. Which was all the more unpleasant for me because my companion is also a chef in a restaurant and I actually wanted to offer him something unusual. The service was attentive and nice, but there was only a candle on the table after we asked, so we could hardly see the main course and dessert and had to turn on the cell phone light to see what we got. I found that impossible. Really a shame! That really ruined my evening a bit. Maybe we'll go again when we can sit inside.

So far everything is great, only the prices are on the upper level. Just one main course won't fill you up and the starters average 13.50. Don't get me wrong, the food is worth the price.

This time Burghof enjoyed the summer evening atmosphere under a large parasol in the shade with 😋 schnitzel and a delicious dessert. Despite a large wedding celebration in the barn and another wedding in the knight's hall, the service was very attentive and extremely friendly. No waiting times for food. A very nice evening!

Bei Weinempfehlungen auf jeden Fall nach dem Preis fragen! Gewünscht war zu erst der Hausrieslich für ca. 20€ die Flasche. Daraufhin wurde ein grade verfügbares "tolles Angebot" empfohlen, auch ein sehr leckerer Riesling. Dieser kostete allerdings 50€ die Flasche, da wo ich herkomme, nennt man das ABZOCKE!

!DANGER! with alternative offers! We wanted to order the house Riesling, here we knew the bottle price. We were then recommended an “OFFER that is currently available”. "Also a very tasty Riesling", but instead of a good €20 (the house Riesling is within this range), this bottle cost a whole €50! Of course that wasn't mentioned! This is a RIP-OFF! In addition, the bottle for €50 was then opened at the table without being shown beforehand and poured into all available glasses. No trying or anything like that - that's also in my opinion. seems highly questionable when one is already serving such high-priced wine! It's a shame it left a very bitter aftertaste when I paid.

I was a photographer at Haus Kemnade and it was really incredibly beautiful there :)

I accompanied a civil wedding at Haus Kemnade in June as a wedding photographer and am still thrilled by the great historical ambience. There are countless opportunities to take beautiful photos and the registrar was also really warm and friendly.

We had an excellent meal and experienced very good and friendly service. In the knight's hall we had a nice, large round table for five people & a dog. We were immediately recommended a Blackberry Spritz as an aperitif, which I enjoyed. As a starter I chose a US pastrami and as my main course I had a wonderfully prepared flamed salmon with Westphalian side dishes and I enjoyed both dishes excellently. As a wine accompaniment we chose a Pinot Gris. What I really liked was the advice I gave my child about vegan dishes. She didn't like the vegan main course on the menu, so another dish was suggested and created, which she really liked. I really liked this flexibility and friendly advice. After dinner we took advantage of the beautiful location of this house and went for a short walk. We parked directly in our own parking spaces.

The historical ambience is very well maintained. Unbelievable when you consider that the last Ruhr floods always caused brutal damage. The food was very tasty and beautifully presented. The real hit: “Three soups in sample size”. The team is very quick and friendly.

Very nice staff, the food was very tasty. A large menu with a lot to choose from. Toilets are very clean and also a great outdoor area. Visiting with larger groups is also no problem. We will definitely come back again

Goose dinner: We were there on December 12th. Went there with six people and ate 2 geese. A bit much, but two guys canceled at short notice. Everything was perfect: big compliments to Heinz Bruns’ team. The goose was carved at the table. She was wonderfully hot and juicy. The sauce was great. Side dishes: red cabbage, dumplings, chestnuts, baked apples with marzipan. The service was very present, always friendly and in a good mood. That made everyone happy. We will go again this year. The rooms in the moated castle are also added. Modernly designed tables and chairs in centuries-old rooms. Overall grade: Unreservedly recommended.

We celebrated our wedding four weeks ago in the house's party barn. It was an absolute dream. The location, the food and the service. The owner even got us a replacement cake because ours couldn't be eaten externally. Super helpful and committed. I would recommend everyone to celebrate there.

Very good restaurant in a historic setting. Very varied menu that offers something for everyone and makes it difficult to make a decision. Very friendly atmosphere, the guest is king, at least a knight :). Very good parking options directly at the restaurant in the castle courtyard. Lovely again!

Everything was great and I would give 7 stars if I could. First we talked to the boss, Mr. Hoffmann, about the event and then booked the terrace. Everything was made possible. We were able to come and decorate everything beforehand. Every wish was fulfilled. Food was great and came quickly and hot. The waiter (unfortunately I didn't ask the name) was a force!!! Despite the heavy rain (which he was unfortunately exposed to) he came to the terrace and repeatedly asked what we wanted. Simply great all around! Thank you again for the lovely evening 🫶

It was wonderful! We were there as a group of a bachelor party. The lady who served us was amazing, my sister eats gluten-free and the lady did everything so that she could enjoy her food too. It tasted excellent, the location is beautiful. And as I said, the lady was amazing and gave us umbrellas. Very, very great! We would like to come again.

Friendly welcome, great ambience, delicious original food with a high standard. Service attentive, fast and humorous. A very nice evening. Again any time. Only the background noise when the knight's hall felt good was a bit annoying.

Obwohl wir bisher immer sehr zufrieden waren, ist dieses Mal so ziemlich alles schief gegangen. Der bestellte Sekt ist niemals angekommen und die anderen Getränke wurden nach dem Hauptgericht gebracht, nachdem ich mich beschwert habe. Das Hauptgerich war übrigens kalt. So etwas darf in einem guten Haus nicht passieren. Wir legen erstmal eine Pause ein und gehen woanders essen.

There are many different high-quality and beautifully prepared dishes. The price is reasonable. If you want to have a good meal in a great atmosphere, this is the right place for you. (Best salmon far and wide - repeated and reproducible several times -)

Excellent ambience, very cozy and tastefully decorated. The service is absolutely top. Totally attentive, courteous and really in a good mood. The food was very, very tasty and of top quality. Price-performance ratio absolutely justified. We were definitely not here for the last time.

We got to know the property at a larger birthday party and were very pleasantly surprised. All members of the birthday party were happy with their food and impressed with the presentation. The service staff were attentive without being intrusive and very friendly throughout. The location is ideal for all kinds of celebrations, but also for a cozy evening for two! Happiness would be perfect if there were guest rooms on the property... you wouldn't just be able to drink a delicious plum brandy!

There are numerous spots for classic, romantic bridal couple photos around the moated castle. Haus Kemnade is located in the middle of a huge paradise for cyclists and hikers. Absolute top recommendation!
