We spent an excellent evening at the restaurant. The ambiance, the food, and the service were all fantastic. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I am completely satisfied and will be back.

Yesterday, ten of us visited Blankenstein Castle in Hattingen and were served by an incredibly charming and welcoming hostess. From the moment we arrived, we immediately sensed that the work here was done with genuine passion and heart. Our group was well looked after – attentively, humorously, and with a warmth that is rarely experienced these days. Despite the size of our group, she always had everything under control, was prompt, friendly, and anticipated our every need. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere in the historic castle was truly special – but the evening was made an unforgettable experience, above all, by the wonderful hostess.

As a trip to eat, you have to have some nerves. There were too many people in one room and the buffet wasn't exactly well set up; the room was too small.

Super delicious waffles with a fantastic view!

Wonderful ambiance, amazing food (even the sauce on the side salad was to die for!), and impeccable service! We came with our dog, and she was treated just as well (maybe even better XD) as we were. We'd love to come back!

Absolutely recommended. We were there for Sunday lunch. It's called brunch, but honestly, apart from egg variations, there was nothing resembling breakfast. Who needs breakfast when you can enjoy such a delicious sauerbraten???

Exactly one week ago, on July 26, 2025, we celebrated our wedding at Blankenstein Castle in the chapel area, including a non-denominational ceremony on site with approximately 70 guests. During the planning phase, we were able to visit another wedding there to get an idea of what such an event might look like. Using a wealth of images, we were able to choose our decorations and flowers exactly as we wanted. Extras would have been possible, for example, a painting table for the kids was organized. However, we preferred to organize a candy bar ourselves, which wasn't a problem either. On the Thursday before the wedding, we delivered everything (e.g., guest book, photo booth, candy bar items, name cards, favors, etc.) and even assumed that our witnesses might have to set up some of it on the day of the reception. To our surprise, everything was already in place (except for the photo booth, for liability reasons). Our outdoor wedding ceremony took place around 3 p.m. in the courtyard, which had been beautifully decorated for us. Afterwards, there was a champagne reception with bread, pretzels, and dips. The buffet was set up from around 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and at midnight, we ordered currywurst. Everything was absolutely perfect! We barely noticed the other wedding reception taking place there at the same time, as everything was well separated. All the snacks and the buffet were incredibly delicious. In every conversation with one of our guests after the wedding, the quality and taste were praised highly. The truly extensive drinks package was also thoroughly enjoyed 😉 What also stood out again and again was the service. All the waiters were very attentive, friendly, and promptly available. And late into the evening, you could even see someone behind the bar joining in with the music. Everything was super professional, without being too stiff. We'd like to give special thanks to our main contact on the day, Thomas: Thank you again for your dedication and your calm, friendly, and accommodating manner! There was one minor hiccup: at 3 a.m., we were informed that we had to move all the gifts to another room, as ours would be needed for the buffet the next morning. We would have liked to have received this information a little earlier, but even so, we managed to get it done quickly with the last guests. So, it didn't dampen the mood of the day. Overall, the day simply flew by, even though we were there for 13 hours. That's just how it is when things are fun and there are no problems 😊 I know: we could certainly have saved money in one area or another by taking care of the flowers and decorations ourselves, for example. But we would definitely leave it in the capable hands of the Müller family and team. There are always plenty of other things you need or want to take care of yourself before a celebration like this. Thank you again for everything! And a definite recommendation as a venue for special occasions 👍🏻 Unfortunately, we don't have any photos from the photographer yet. So a few cell phone snapshots will have to suffice 😉

I celebrated my birthday there, everything was perfect

The worst service and maintenance! Very nice location and that's all. We waited 70 minutes for our order: it was ribs and onion soup. During this time, no one came up, did not offer anything. We were simply ignored. They brought "French" onion soup with croutons and cheese; as stated in the menu. This is a soup in which soft bread and cheese float. Croutons and cheese were not added on a separate plate, as is done in France. The soup was returned. Three waiters took turns approaching me and asking what happened. I explained THREE times that this was not the soup they stated on the menu. No one apologized. The answer was simply: Alles Gut. They did not offer to replace the dish. No one else approached us at all. The behavior is not worthy of a normal establishment. I highly do not recommend it!!!

The atmosphere was truly pleasant. The food tasted average, but there were some shortcomings in the service. The coffee was served spilled. In such a case, I would have preferred at least the cup to be cleaned, or ideally a new coffee to be served. In such a lovely restaurant, I would have expected more attentive service.

We got married on July 19, 2025, in the front area – the large glass pavilion – at Blankenstein Castle, and it was simply beautiful! The location is extraordinary, offering a unique combination of historic castle character and modern elegance. The opportunity to celebrate outdoors was a real highlight for us – accompanied by a breathtaking view over the Ruhr Valley. The service was first-class – very friendly, attentive, and prompt. Everything ran smoothly and professionally, allowing us to fully concentrate on our day. We were also impressed by the transparent pricing policy: There was no fixed flat rate, no hidden costs – everything was clearly and fairly regulated, which gave us a great deal of planning security. The food was absolutely delicious – from the appetizer to dessert, everything was freshly and lovingly prepared. Our guests were thrilled! Later in the evening, we celebrated in the restaurant for a long time – the atmosphere was fantastic, and the setting was simply perfect for an unforgettable wedding celebration. Blankenstein Castle is highly recommended as a wedding location – for anyone who values a special ambience, great service, and a relaxed, stylish celebration!

I was very lucky to get a table, as you can only get one with a reservation. It was a perfect evening from start to finish... super friendly service, super delicious food, and absolutely fantastic value for money. At around €35 per person for the main course, dessert, and drinks in a superbly elegant setting, it's definitely worth recommending.

We went to eat ribs today. To fill our wait, we had bread with a herb dip, then three salad options (pasta salad, lamb's lettuce, tomato and mozzarella), and then the ribs with baked potatoes with sour cream and a cabbage salad. My son ate the roulade with spaetzle. We were all very full. My brother-in-law and child managed to have dessert. They were happy with that, too. This wasn't the last time we were there.

Our absolute dream wedding at Blankenstein Castle – it couldn't be better! We had the privilege of experiencing our non-denominational wedding and reception at Blankenstein Castle on July 5, 2025 – and it was simply perfect in every way! The venue is an absolute eye-catcher even from the outside – this historic backdrop, the view, the atmosphere: a true dream for any wedding. The non-denominational ceremony took place outdoors, surrounded by this unique castle setting – many of our guests said they had never experienced such an atmospheric wedding. After the ceremony, we moved seamlessly into the large pavilion – a beautiful combination of outdoors and indoors. Here, too, everything was just perfect: the decor, the lighting, the setup – you can tell that the team at Blankenstein Castle knows exactly what they're doing. A huge compliment to the service: It was as if they had read our minds. Always there when we needed something – but never intrusive. Many guests told us afterward that they had rarely experienced such calm, yet attentive service. And the food! Literally every guest told us afterwards how delicious it was. Quality, selection, presentation – everything was of the highest standard. We couldn't have wished for a better culinary accompaniment to our day. We are simply grateful that we were able to celebrate this special day in such a special place – and that we didn't have to worry about a thing. Full marks! This was quite possibly the most amazing thing I've seen and experienced in recent times, both in terms of cuisine. The castle and its surrounding grounds, as well as the restaurant with its fine cuisine, were truly impressive. But what really impressed me was the exceptionally friendly and attentive staff, and of course, not to forget the landlady, who loves her "baby," and it shows. I'll be back!

We were there for a birthday. On 22.06 we booked a table for 18:00 in advance with the request to sit on the terrace with a view. On the spot the manager said that it was impossible because they don't serve food there. We saw people eating there and the waiters made room for us. Thanks to them for that. Nice service, but not from the manager. Food - steak for 31€ was killed by too much pepper sauce. Too much pepper both in the sauce and on the steak. Beer was warm... chip was tasty. Burger was ok. The place itself is beautiful and worth visiting for the atmosphere.

We ate there today. Brunch is served until 2 p.m. on Sundays. Everything was great. From the moment you arrive, you can tell that guests are welcome here. The very friendly staff are unobtrusively ready to fulfill all your wishes. The buffet offers everything in an excellent way. We sat on the terrace in the courtyard and had a wonderful view. I can therefore highly recommend the restaurant, and if you're in the area, you should stop by. Thank you for your great service.

We were in the restaurant and outside area a week ago for a friend's wedding. I have worked in the catering industry for over 15 years. Everything was just right. The boss is very nice and has trained her staff extremely well. The service was top-notch; empty drinks and plates were cleared away quickly, and she always asked if anyone wanted anything new. The bar staff recognized you quickly, and it usually only took seconds for the right drink to be in front of you. That is top-notch service; that's how it should be. The food was great for a buffet; no dry meat, overcooked vegetables, or side dishes, and that's a real art for a buffet. And all of this from an 11 square meter kitchen, for two weddings plus an a la carte service. That's simply a real art. A top team works in all areas here to deliver something like this. Many catering businesses could learn a thing or two from that. I'm glad to still see something like this these days. That there are still people who really enjoy working in the catering industry and who, on top of that, work so well as a team. Thank you for the fantastic experience. It was a very nice evening/night. The fact that the manager was actually there until 4 a.m. is a sign of professionalism.

We came from the Sauerland region for dinner. The spare ribs were amazing. So were the side dishes. Music played in the background. We sat outside with a beautiful view. The whole ambiance was simply fantastic. The staff was excellent. It felt like we were on vacation, like we were on an island somewhere completely different. All in all, a wonderful evening. Highly recommended.

We visited the castle restaurant for the first time today and were thrilled with the food. A bowl of water was placed in front of our four-legged friend. The service was very friendly and efficient. The value for money is absolutely excellent, and the menu is very creatively designed. We enjoyed it so much that we'll definitely return! If you're a good walker, it's best to park your vehicle in the designated parking spaces, as there is no parking at the top of the castle. Tip: There's a gravel parking area opposite the hospital, for example.

The day was rainy. We were invited to a silver wedding anniversary and celebrated at the castle. The ambiance and the staff brightened up the rainy day. It was a wonderful day. The rain eventually let up, and the view of the surroundings became heavenly. For those of us who love photos, it's a dream come true. The food is really good; everyone went to the buffet at least twice. The parking situation... you need a bit of patience.

It was a truly fantastic experience. We are absolutely thrilled. The staff and the manager were all very friendly. We had planned a knight's banquet to celebrate Father's Day and a birthday (13 people + 1 child). The food was delicious. We would like to thank everyone very much for the wonderful evening. Very idyllic little place with the castle almost in the middle. You can't park at the castle, you can only drive up to it Allowing people who cannot walk well to get on or off. Then you have to drive back down to town Finding a parking space in Dirt is not easy. The restaurant in the castle is very nice, you have a great view of the valley. There are also outdoor spaces. We were there with friends on Saturday afternoon and had waffles that were excellent and at a very reasonable price. €7.20 with cherries, ice cream and cream. There are several variants. Overall a very nice afternoon, 30 minutes drive from Essen. This was completely unknown to us, we can only recommend it!

After the first impression pretty much blew us away, we spontaneously decided to give the Müller family permission to host our wedding celebration for around 70 people. Even though things sometimes get a bit hectic at the castle, the subsequent planning was largely unproblematic and all of our wishes were met. Many points are accommodated here. The drinks flat rate, for example, only depends on the number of guests, but not on the choice of drinks. The final number of people for the buffet must not be determined until the Monday before the party. If you want to bring cake, they do not insist on booking cake from the restaurant. Getting to the castle is unproblematic. There is a large parking lot on the street and a bus stop that is served by line 350 every 15 minutes. We were also offered the opportunity to drive directly up to the castle by car. Only very wide cars could have problems here, as there is a bottleneck in front of the bridge where you have to drive between two houses. This should be checked beforehand. For the decoration fee per person, you really get an all-round carefree package. Everything was as agreed and very tastefully and beautifully prepared. Access to the “dance bar” in the chapel is also included. The sound and lighting systems are really of the finest quality and really created a good mood and atmosphere. In the evening the castle is generally illuminated with colorful spotlights, which we really liked. At some point the lights of the cities along the Ruhr also light up in the background, creating a wonderful panorama. The kitchen team must be considered the secret star of the evening, who prepared an almost entirely vegetarian buffet for us. Every bite was tasty and all the guests told us that too. But the rest of the service staff also impressed with their friendliness and helpfulness - from start to finish. When we finally did the tattoo at 3 a.m. (we could have celebrated much longer, here too without any extra charge), the remains of our cakes were thankfully kept cold and everything that we couldn't take with us in the taxi was locked up so that we could pick it up the next day without worrying about it. Thanks to the well-heated rooms and patio heaters for the outdoor area, a wedding celebration in March was no problem at all despite the cold temperatures and no one was cold. You only had to take a jacket with you if you wanted to climb the tower. However, it is very worth it to enjoy the view from up there. Apart from a few misunderstandings regarding the technology and our DJ, everything went perfectly that day and there were no unpleasant surprises. Mr. Patrick Müller or one of the staff was always there to answer our questions and be very helpful. We left with the impression that Blankenstein Castle really tries to organize an extraordinary party for its guests with a feel-good guarantee and not to offer every snap and snap as an extra for a separate coin. The performance you get for the price may seem high at first glance, but it is definitely worth it. It would be difficult to find a comparable high-quality offering in such a historically exciting place. Thank you for this dream wedding! 🌟 I would like to give an unreserved recommendation.

A sunny weekend lured us outside and took my loved one and I to Hattingen. Since we - completely unexpectedly - got a little hungry there, we looked for a nice place to stop. Coincidence helped us visit Blankenstein Castle and the restaurant there. In advance there were three types of bread, including a variant with cranberry and curry, together with a herb dip - very tasty and not too intrusive. After the medium-sized side salad came our main course - zander fillet for her and the Burg Burger for me - and it quickly became clear that we had made a good decision. The food was very tasty and the service was super friendly and accommodating. Ultimately, however, we had to have our portions packed because we couldn't manage the amount. The rustic chic atmosphere was really nice and we can only recommend a stay here. 😊

The food was delicious. The service was so-so, the waiter always forgot something, for example what we ordered or the side dishes we wanted, well we are all human, but in the end no one apologized.

We celebrated our wedding at Blankenstein Castle at the end of September and it was a perfect, wonderful day. We and all of our guests were particularly impressed by the delicious food and the courteous and very friendly staff. However, “staff” here does not just mean the service employees, but the entire workforce, from the employee who took such loving care of the placement of our decorations, the cooks, but especially Ms. Teschner and Mr. Müller Jr. and senior, who took care of the preparation in an exemplary manner and were always open to discussions and ideas. The entire location is beautifully preserved and decorated with many details. With the Kemnade, the village at the castle and of course the castle and the castle courtyard itself, there are countless places where the wedding couple can have photos taken of themselves and with their guests. The opportunity to take photos on the castle wall with the view of the Ruhr and surrounding areas is particularly unique and a special sight for the guests. Guests also get unforgettable impressions from the top of the castle tower. The celebration took place in the “Chapel”, the smaller of the two bookable rooms. The chapel has a very large outdoor area with enough space for the champagne reception, a photo box, the candy bar, seating and many decorative elements. The disco is separated from the dining room by a short corridor, but the music from the disco is broadcast into the hall via loudspeakers. Since the majority of our guests were not part of the “party people”, they still felt like “part of the party”. The wedding car may be parked at the entrance to the castle for the celebration. We are incredibly happy to have spent our celebration at the castle and grateful to the castle team for the unforgettable day. In the future, our wedding anniversary will always be celebrated with dinner at the castle. 🥰

Get married like in a fairy tale in a castle with a breathtaking view surrounded by nature. However, the prince did not come on the white horse but on a white Harley and the princess did not come in the white carriage but in the white Lamborghini.😉 The subsequent wedding ceremony was simply magical. We had waffles and coffee at your place and everything was very tasty ☕🌞 Milk for the coffee and vanilla ice cream was out and honestly that can happen on a busy day like today. It's great that we and the children were treated so well. Sometimes it's not that easy and you handled it very professionally. At some point, children become lurid and at some point it becomes difficult to keep them still 🤭 Really big ➕😃😁 Unfortunately you had a smartphone faux pas and luckily you were able to save the device. 🔝 Top 👍

We were there for coffee in the afternoon. It was very crowded. There were various waffles and apple strudel to choose from. The waffles were good, the apple strudel was ok. Unfortunately only the coffee came first. After a quarter of an hour one of the two waffle orders and the two apple strudel arrived. The coffee had long since been drunk by then. When the three plates sent first were empty, the fourth plate arrived after another quarter of an hour.

Delicious food, friendly service, great ambience. Unfortunately, we weren't received so well. We were asked to go for a walk as the things from eating waffles were still being put away. Despite the fireplace, it was very cold as soon as the door was open.

We were really looking forward to the Christmas buffet in Blankenstein Castle. Unfortunately, our expectations were not fulfilled in everything. The smoked salmon with roasted pieces and the shrimp cocktail were very tasty, while the meat dishes were only mediocre. Even for vegetarians, the selection was rather modest and not really a highlight. Overall, we would rate the overall presentation as a 3+, so ok but not worth repeating for us.

Very tasty waffles in a beautiful setting

In January 2025, six of us attended the knight's dinner at Blankenstein Castle. Normally all six of us would have had to have the same dish, but since we had a vegetarian with us, we asked if an exception could be made and they cooked a dish especially for her without any problems or extra charge. The staff was very nice and polite. The food was delicious and the juggler was also very funny and contributed to the good atmosphere ;-). We were very satisfied and had a really nice and fun evening for six of us. :-)

This is the second time we have taken part in the Christmas buffet here and we are once again absolutely thrilled. The food is wonderful and the staff is just great... The decoration is a dream and the view is simply beautiful... Thank you and we look forward to 2024 We also recommend the BBQ spareribs, which are available all year round. . LG

Were at the knight's dinner The service and ambience were great as was the food But two things didn't work at all The manager of the restaurant told us that another birthday party had booked a medieval artist and our table, which was right next to it, had to pay 10 euros per person for this artist, which is really bad Then we asked if we could eat what was left of our knight's meal with us The answer was only the meat could be taken away on the grounds that it would not be a take-away restaurant and that there would be new laws regarding this. We couldn't quite understand it. In addition, the television, where a fireplace was shown on the screen, was switched off early Furthermore, one of us found out that the boss had shit on the staff. Unfortunately it wasn't that great to see.

The ambience and the food was very good. I found it strange that you can't hang your jacket over chairs and you have to put it on the windowsill. I find it very questionable how leftover food is handled. You can take meat with you and not anything else. It's then thrown away even though you'd rather eat it at home. I have no understanding whatsoever.

All in all a very successful evening. The only thing that wasn't nice of the old lady was to ask for a double tip.

A very nice place if you want to spend a few cozy hours with friends or family. Really worth it.

Beautiful location and super delicious food. How were we today on December 25th? for the Christmas menu on site. Nothing was left to be desired, the staff was very friendly. Thank you, we'll be back!

We celebrated our Christmas party there with a knight's banquet. The quality of the food was very good and the staff was very nice and attentive. Small criticism: When I book a knight's meal in a castle, you don't necessarily expect to sit in a pagoda tent that is moderately heated. You could have saved yourself the additionally booked juggler. Juggle once with 4 balls and a number from the magic box for 10 year olds. Here I know much better players from medieval markets. Unfortunately there were no drink menus on the tables, so neither the selection nor the prices were transparent.

We celebrated our parents' 60th wedding anniversary on Wednesday. We felt welcome and cared for from the first minute. Special requests were addressed without any problems. Our waitress was courteous, quick and very friendly. The food was very good. The salmon and grilled beef melted in your mouth. The juggler was also just great and delighted us with a colorful program of magic, singing, juggling and celebrated our anniversaries. Overall, a very successful evening that we will not forget and will definitely repeat.

We had the pleasure of spending a very nice time at this place. The service was extremely friendly and professional, the food was excellent and deserves +5 stars. The atmosphere of the restaurant also left nothing to be desired, although a little of the castle flair was missing. The entire complex is very well maintained and themed. Absolutely recommended!
