Restaurant Fährhaus in Köln

New Year's Eve: including the greeting from the head chef, there were a total of seven courses, all exquisitely and lovingly prepared, except perhaps for the risotto, although that's purely a matter of taste. With a truly excellent wine list, we then happily slid into the new year.

Great location right on the Rhine, the food is very good, the service is friendly and excellent. Highly recommended.

Because of Corona we couldn't go there for a long time, but it's still worth a visit today. The menu, especially in the starters section, has been expanded to include Greek specialties. The waitresses were friendly and attentive, the wines were selected. The view from the terrace of the Rhine and the Cologne skyline is priceless. Corona has been over for a while now, but we still really enjoy being here. Everything is just right, especially the service is warm, regardless of whether you are a regular customer or are here for the first time.

Excellent value for money! The current goose offer with a glass of wine is very reasonably priced, even by Cologne standards. The goose breast was amazing: it practically fell apart on its own – what a delicious meal! The family also had appetizers (octopus rings, baked cheese) as well as steak, Wiener Schnitzel, and a sensational chocolate mousse. Sure, it's not cheap, but worth every penny! Super friendly staff, too! What a lovely evening! In the end, we were just as happy as our bread dip 😊

We were served such a delicious meal right before the kitchen closed. We weren't expecting that at all. Okay, the price is a bit high, so you'd expect something solid. But it tasted absolutely wonderful. 😋🍻

The location and ambiance are first-class, and the evening atmosphere is perfect. Unfortunately, the piece of Wiener Schnitzel (veal) was even thinner than the parking disc from the car... The side dishes were okay, but the schnitzel was more breading than meat...

Very nice restaurant and the ambience was super good. It's a shame that the staff and the menu have unfortunately made the restaurant somewhat questionable. Waiter very confused, forgets orders and who ordered what, unfortunately the menu contains more starters than main courses and no desserts. In addition, the waiting time was far too long and there was no slaz and pepper with the food.

The reservation worked best and quickest. We waited about 60 minutes for the food even though the restaurant wasn't very busy. Some of the food was not served as ordered. Changes would have been possible with a further waiting period, so we did not accept the offer. The entire meal (schnitzel, entrecote, lamb, fish, gratin, potatoes, fries) was more lukewarm than hot. Overall the service seemed overwhelmed. Price-performance ratio wasn't right.

The ferry house is located directly on the banks of the Rhine in Cologne-Rodenkirchen. We visited the restaurant on Easter Sunday without a reservation. The reception and placement were nice and quick. Because there was nothing on the main menu to our liking, we opted for a potpourri of starters. The waiting time was absolutely fine, the quality of the food was between very good and room for improvement. For example, a dressing for the farmer's salad or vinegar and oil would be mandatory in my opinion. If the carpaccio with the halloumi consists of woody slices, it doesn't taste particularly good either. The service makes an effort but even more could be done. For example, simply offer a spoon if the starters are to be eaten by two people. Or you can also implement your own offers directly. With two juice spritzers and two cappuccinos, the final price on the lid is €70.00...that's not cheap. Take a look for yourself when you're there. All in all, I rate the experience four stars.

We were just there and the food was more expensive and wasn't great either. But I don't think it's the food's fault, it's the chef's fault that he didn't have such a good experience cooking the things. It doesn't have to be again, there's better food and better ambience.

With a view of the Rhine, you can watch the hustle and bustle on the banks in the rustic interior or on the terrace outside while enjoying Greek and German delicacies. We were particularly impressed by the rich meze in both quantity and selection. Yummy. The service is also good.

Price/performance is not justified at all. The best part was the bread with olive oil and the music. Definitely not recommended.

Reservations and reception were easy and friendly! Extensive menu (tapas-like varied starters, main dishes with a maritime focus, but also local and regional selections), as well as an extensive menu of high-quality drinks. Four of us each chose a 3-course menu with different dishes, accompanied by an aperitif, Kölsch, excellent wines (with prior advice) and then espresso and digestif. All food and drinks more than satisfied us in terms of quality and quantity. The staff is attentive at all times but not intrusive, provides good advice and is always open to individual requests. Great service! The ambience of the dining room (slightly cold) could perhaps be readjusted, but that may also have been due to the dark, rainy January evening outside. Things certainly look different in summer on the outdoor terrace directly on the Rhine. We will come back! From our point of view is

Nice atmosphere, good food, but in the end something was missing everywhere. Be it the attention of the staff, that the steak was not fried as requested, or that requests were simply forgotten. Definitely not the best for the price, but it has a good foundation.

It was awful. The food was very expensive. 12 tortellini for €18.90 and then not even homemade - finished product and the coq au vin cold, the puree limp. Disaster. Staff ok. But nothing more.

Today we had dinner in the ferry house with three people. The location is really unique, located directly on the Rhine with a view of the panorama of Cologne. BUT: The prices are quite reasonable (large apple spritzer 6.80 euros), probably due to the good location and Rodenkirchen. And the service staff was so listless and unfriendly that even a "thank you" for the tip was no longer possible...

Service and food absolutely perfect, special requests were also fulfilled in a very friendly manner! We particularly recommend the sea bream fillet on tomato as a starter, not dry and excellently seasoned. Various main courses were all very tasty, the liver was simply sensational! Some portion sizes could be a little larger, but overall everything was great!

Disappointment across the board. After several years of abstinence, we visited the Fährhaus for dinner. We first ordered an aperitif and a wine and a Kölsch for the main course. The pasta with chanterelles was rather average with a watery sauce and had to be seasoned with salt and pepper. The pork chop priced at €28 was a surprise (see photo). A mini piece of meat, 1 cm thick, completely fried and bone dry with 2 bacon beans and a dollop of potato gratin. After a quick taste test, the dish went back to the kitchen. The drinks with the main course were now completely forgotten. The bill only came after I remembered. No apologies, no “booze” on the house. Luckily, there are many good restaurants in Rodenkirchen with good service and reasonable prices. We won't bother the ferry house again in the next few years.

The starters could easily be seen as being similar to tappas. There were also some vegetarian items there. The main courses were rather manageable. The staff was nice even when an order went missing (:

The Fährhaus is a nice restaurant in a top location. The staff was extremely friendly and we even got a table quickly without a reservation. However, food isn't really my thing. The bruschetta was more of a cheap small pizza and the linguine, although tasty, had an excessive amount of oil. Overall, in my opinion, the price-performance ratio is not right.

Amazing authentic place you feel you are in New Orleans but they speak German. I love it. The only thing I do not like is that you must have cash. They don't take cards. I really do not like that detail. But what can we do. Cannot have all in life right? 😆

In short: The food, which is unfortunately really overpriced in terms of price-performance ratio, is okay, but the portions don't really fill you up without a starter (and dessert). On the clear cheese plate that we took as a starter, two of the high-priced types of cheese listed were missing or had been replaced by lower-quality cheese. That for €8.50... At around 5:00 p.m., no mousse au chocolat could be served because it wasn't ready yet (original sound: "Maybe it won't be liquid anymore at 6:00 p.m.). The friendly one The waitress, who seemed helpless, tried to sell us the crème brûlée, which was, as expected, average and very sweet for €8. Conclusion: On a completely rainy day of the week, it was nice to sit on the covered and warmed terrace. The prices would have been justified for the ambience and the location, but unfortunately not for the food. We might try again after 6 p.m.

Overall good. Food was really tasty, the view was nice but the service could really be improved! The waitress seemed to have little interest in her work, no smile and everything took a long time even though there was nothing going on. I would be able to give it 4 stars 🌟, but the inadequate service reduces my experience in the ferry house. Nevertheless, 3 points for delicious dishes with a pleasant view.

The Fährhaus in Rodenkirchen impresses with its very good cuisine. The prices are rather high, the service staff is nice, friendly and competent. In terms of ambience, it could be a little better as the Fährhaus is getting old.

We were there for the second time now and what can I say... the waitress recognized us as soon as we came in and even knew our preferences after months. Wiener Schnitzel was just ok. The potato salad isn't really good. The relationship between price and performance is not even close. Nice, there was some olive oil and bread.
