Restaurant Duhner Strandräuber in Cuxhaven

The Duhnen Beachcomber is definitely worth more than one visit. The menu is varied and also offers seasonal dishes. All dishes are freshly prepared, which you can watch thanks to the open kitchen. All the dishes are extremely tasty and more than ample. We ate there six times during our stay in Duhnen and tried many different dishes. The staff is very attentive and friendly and always in good spirits. Even outside of peak season, we would recommend making a reservation. We have been to the Duhnen Beachcomber on several vacations and wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant. We are already looking forward to our next visits.

Very tasty! I had the baked potato with chicken, and the salad was delicious – everything was superb. My husband had the Cuxhaven platter, which was also great. Friendly staff. The burgers looked fantastic too. We'll be back!

This was our first time here and we weren't disappointed. The service was attentive and friendly, the food was delicious, and the price was perfectly reasonable. Definitely recommended.

We were there in July and gave it another chance. The system where the main course is pushed to the back if you have an appetizer is just crap. We had children with us who were really hungry and had to wait forever. We then mentioned it to the kitchen. Since the food isn't great and nothing will change, we won't be visiting this restaurant again.

The atmosphere at the Duhner Strandräuber is very cozy, and the staff was extremely friendly. We were there for lunch with a group of 10 people and received a warm welcome. The food was prepared and served quite quickly, and it tasted excellent. Our two dogs were also welcome and were given a bowl of water right from the start. If we go on holiday to Cuxhaven again, the Strandräuber will definitely be on our to-do list.

The food was average, nothing special. Unfortunately, the fries on the burger didn't come with ketchup or mayo. The older lady behind the counter was very unfriendly. She seemed to be out of her mind.

We were greeted by an unfriendly waiter (Andre), who immediately yelled at us for not remembering the table number casually mentioned at the entrance. I ordered my rump steak medium, and it was almost cooked. My complaint was met with a dismissive response. The fried potatoes were swimming in fat and weren't crispy at all. My girlfriend's chicken curry was generally okay, although the chicken was rather dry, but edible. In summary, you can fill yourself up here, but despite the price, don't expect a flavor explosion.

If you want to eat fish in Duhnen, you can't miss the Strandräuber. Here you'll get generous portions of delicious dishes that always represent good value for money. My recommendation: Pannfisch (pan-fried fish). Very tasty! The staff is friendly and attentive, which is a plus. After the meal, we recommend a nightcap at the "Duhner Strandfeuer" (Duhn Beach Fire). It burns well, tastes delicious, and cleans up after a long day. Due to high demand, reservations are a must if you want to be rewarded with delicious food. Highly recommended.

We were there on a Friday evening and were served immediately. The drinks came right after we ordered, and then we ordered our food. The food arrived after 5-7 minutes and everything was excellent. The only thing that wasn't so great was that the kitchen was open, so everything smelled of food, and the tables for two people were very small and all very close together.

The Cuxhaven fish platter was awful! Everything tasted of grease and the same! The fried potatoes were simply inedible; they were soggy and greasy! When I said this, I was given a shot of schnapps as an apology! It was supposed to be an old apricot! But it tasted like I couldn't describe it! Stay away from such a "restaurant."

I congratulate everyone who ate well here, but unfortunately I cannot agree with their opinions. I was very satisfied with the onion soup, even though it was already heavy. The Cuxhaven fish plate, however, was not satisfactory at all, something I unfortunately only noticed more and more as the meal progressed. The fried potatoes were not crispy, but rather limp. The fish also showed a generous amount of fat, which was also evident from the golden shimmer of the empty plate. When I later mentioned this to the waiter, he seemed overwhelmed and rude and tried to make excuses. My complaint and that of my wife that the boiled potatoes were a bit too salty were ignored. This is not how a visit to a restaurant should be.

I was at this restaurant at dinner time and asked for a table for one person. The server said I could sit wherever I liked, so I chose a table by the window. From there, I had a good view of the guests and the open kitchen and bar. As the staff bustled about, I noticed that there was also an additional floor upstairs. The restaurant was well-filled at the time of my visit, especially with couples and families. I quickly received the menu, from which I chose the Cuxhaven plate with three kinds of fish and fried potatoes. The dish was delivered relatively quickly. It tasted very good. The service staff were eager but not particularly friendly. However, that seems to be typical for Cuxhaven. Overall, I was very satisfied and will visit this restaurant again on my next visit to Cuxhaven.

We had fish, and it was delicious! They're large plates, with two or three portions of fish and a side dish. The meals are reasonably priced, but the drinks are a bit pricey. The atmosphere and service are also good.

The food selection is good, and the staff is very friendly. Unfortunately, they don't have any cocktails. What a pity.

The food was served quickly, and it was easy to choose fried potatoes instead of fries – I appreciated that. Unfortunately, my apple spritzer was mistaken for an Aperol. The food itself was clearly noticeable that much of it came from the freezer. The fried potatoes were quite soggy, the hunter's sauce was unconvincing and also tasted strongly of a convenience store. The schnitzel, on the other hand, was tender and delicious, even though it was probably also frozen. The fish was good and I enjoyed it. Overall, a mixed review: Service was fast and flexible, but there's still a lot of room for improvement in the quality of the food.

I can't recommend this restaurant for the following reasons: Because of the open kitchen, it smells strongly of food preparation. Don't wear clean clothes. The food was served fairly quickly, but it still wasn't really warm. The fries were like those you'd buy from a supermarket. They were very cheap in terms of quality. I would classify it as a tourist-baiting operation. Considering the prices, I wouldn't recommend it.

We spontaneously decided to have a late lunch at the Strandräuber and received friendly and prompt service. The drinks and food arrived unexpectedly quickly. The salad was crisp and fresh, and the fish was also very good. The portions were very generous. I found the prices rather reasonable. We had a seat on the terrace. In retrospect, we might have been better off choosing an inside table, which they had offered us, because unfortunately, immediately after our arrival, several smokers sat down at the neighboring table, and another group of guests were communicating at a volume far above normal. But the Strandräuber can't do anything about that, and it certainly doesn't happen every day. In short, we felt comfortable and would come back even if we didn't live 800 km away.

Standard fare. If you want mayo or ketchup, you get sachets. Burgers are dry. Fries are relatively bland.

Visited on August 31, 2025. 10 adults, 7:30 p.m. Restaurant closes at 9 p.m. Food orders accepted until 8 p.m. The food was okay, nothing special. Reasonably priced. Drinks were unfortunately a bit more expensive. Overall, one had the impression that one was somehow "annoying" at this time of night. Around 8:30 p.m., while we were still enjoying our last drinks, the outdoor chairs and tables were cleared away for the night, and a little later, the side panels were raised. Note: Payment only in cash or by debit card. No credit cards or other debit cards.

Four of us and our dog ate at Strandräuber. The restaurant was very busy. We were welcome with our dog and were given a nice seat. The service was friendly and attentive. We ate fish and meat dishes. There was nothing to complain about the food. It was very tasty and plentiful. The price was perfectly reasonable. The atmosphere was very pleasant. We would gladly return and highly recommend it!

The restaurant is so beautiful, beautifully decorated and the food is beautifully presented. The food tastes good and is really filling and well worth the price. The staff are very friendly. One member of staff in particular caught our attention. My boyfriend and I have been there four times now and the first time he ordered a large orange juice. The man remembered that and then served us again the next time and asked if he wanted another orange juice. He memorized our faces and every time, regardless of whether he served us or not, he greeted us in a friendly manner and asked us politely if we wanted another orange juice. A very, very nice man. I can only recommend the restaurant. 10/10

We had pan-fried fish and a Duhnen beachcomber burger. The burger, especially the patty, bacon, and salad, were good. Unfortunately, the brioche wasn't so good, so almost all of it remained on the plate. The pan-fried fish had more than enough fish on it. Unfortunately, the mustard sauce was a bit bland. It needed a spoonful more mustard, in my opinion. Overall, it was still OK.

We had the Cuxhaven fish platter; everything was delicious and reasonably priced. The fish was fried deliciously, and the fried potatoes were nice and crispy. We had a side salad with it, which was also good. We had nothing to complain about and would gladly come back.

I know this restaurant from my time ago. The last time I was here was 8 years ago. It was a top-notch restaurant. The food, the service, the wait times... everything was top-notch. I was really looking forward to eating here again after such a long time. But we were so disappointed. We had the Cuxhaven fish platter with fried potatoes. Everything was dripping with fat. The bacon cubes in the fried potatoes were burnt. It was practically inedible. Not to mention the extremely long wait before we even got the menu... We were definitely there for the last time. It's a shame the restaurant has declined so much.

Delicious fish dishes, nice staff.

We've been coming to Duhnen for several years now, and I have to say that the Strandräuber has developed very positively. The dishes are delicious and are also prepared with a visual appeal. Very friendly service, who keep an eye on things even when the place is full. We really enjoyed it and will definitely be back next year.

Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. My Jägerschnitzel came with a soggy sauce (with only one mushroom), completely unseasoned, and the fries weren't cooked through. And that was despite the fact the place was almost empty. Never again!

With 4.4 stars on Google, I thought you couldn't go wrong! Unfortunately, you couldn't! I had Holstein-style schnitzel. The schnitzel was dry and tasteless. The fries weren't cooked well. The food was generally lacking in salt. The place wasn't very busy... I think they lived off the passing customers. A real shame!

Very delicious food. I had the North German bruschetta, which I highly recommend, as well as the burgers! The service was friendly, attentive, and really funny. We easily got a table for 9 people at very short notice, and the phone service was just as friendly. Overall, a very pleasant group experience. Finally, nothing to complain about! If I'm ever there again, I'd love to go back! 👍

As in previous years, the Duhner Strandräuber was our favorite restaurant on this vacation, and we were more than satisfied every time. The staff are super friendly, and the food, whether fish or meat, was very fresh and delicious. They also readily accommodated special requests. For us, it's one of the most pleasant restaurants in Cuxhaven.

We wanted to spend a pleasant evening, but it was more of a fast food restaurant with seating. The service was very taciturn and curt. Not unfriendly, but not very hospitable either. The food was rather mediocre: the fried potatoes were far too fatty, the fish was overcooked, and the side salad tasted okay, but had far too many raw onions. My wife's herring dish was okay except for the fried potatoes and the salad (same problem). I doubt the wine was the Pinot Blanc we ordered. And if it was, it was of poor quality. Payment was only possible with a Girocard, not with a current debit card. So it's best to have cash with you.

Friendly staff and delicious food. Overhaul, it's gotten significantly worse. We were at the Strandräuber again on June 25th and were very disappointed. The service was very disinterested, the fish was okay, and the fried potatoes were only lukewarm. Then the kitchen entrance was cleaned with chemicals even though we were sitting nearby. That's how quickly a good reputation can be ruined.

We were full, but we haven't been served such a lackluster meal in a long time. The waiter we had didn't even say a friendly word, let alone a smile. My spritzer was 70% water. A schnitzel costs 18-20 euros, and the salad is extra. This is one of those restaurants you visit once and never go back again.

The food arrived at the table in about seven minutes, which doesn't speak for its fresh preparation. The sauce was definitely a bad pre-made sauce. The fried potatoes were simply reheated in fat, unseasoned, and really bad. Never again! A shame.

The food was good, nothing to complain about, but it was very loud, and even though the Northern Lights are generally rather dry and taciturn, we would have preferred a lot more attention. We sat upstairs, and it seemed disorganized and chaotic.

Anyone who, like us, has been dining at the "Duhner Strandräuber" for several years will remember this restaurant as a good address when it comes to pampering their palate in good, home-style cooking on vacation. But beware!!! There seems to have been a change of ownership here, which is having a noticeable negative impact in many areas, and unfortunately, also on the taste. It was striking that we even managed to get a table at peak dining time at 7:00 p.m., even though we had only requested it that afternoon, but we initially attributed this to the off-season. We ordered salmon with grilled vegetables and a Cuxhaven fish plate. We were a little surprised that the waiter served our food after just five minutes, even though we hadn't yet ordered our drinks. My wife's salmon went straight back to the kitchen because it was a bit reminiscent of sushi. It was completely raw inside!! My fish plate looked like a failed attempt at a simple fish fry. Pieces of fillet slapped together (according to the menu, there should have been three fillets of noble fish...). At first, I only saw two pieces of fish that had "zero" crust and strongly reminded me of boiled fish from a bag. Upon lifting the two pieces of fish, I found a third piece, barely the size of a fish stick. Incidentally, it was the only one that actually looked visibly fried. The fries, like the two upper pieces of fish fillet, were mushy and tasteless. Anyone familiar with the "De Beer" fish restaurant chain in Norddeich and Aurich expects snack quality, but gets far superior quality compared to the "Duhner Strandräuber"! We also ordered a side salad that was so fizzy it made your hair stand on end. The nice gentleman who usually ran the restaurant is no longer there. The kitchen is staffed by absolute novices who have no idea about the art of frying a fish, preparing crispy fries, and serving everything neatly garnished on a plate. In any case, we can no longer recommend this once-good restaurant and will no longer return. Our money is too precious for that... The price can be a little higher if it reflects the quality of the food. But that's exactly not the case here! Recently, the quality has become extremely poor, while the prices remain consistently high! A no-go for us and not worth more than one star.

We thought the fish dishes were delicious. In retrospect, we were almost annoyed that we didn't eat there every night.

We were just happy. The menu is not overloaded, but the dishes are okay. Nice and friendly service, smaller portions also possible. That's why we visited the beach robber three times in one week.

Wir waren spontan abends zum Essen dort. Grundsätzlich nichts auszusetzen, aber es hat uns leider nichts vom Hocker gerissen. Mein „Edel“-Fischteller war leider komplett in Panade. Erwarte ich anders. Das die angepriesene Hollondaise gefehlt hat, war aufgrund der gut gemachten Kartoffeln kein Problem. Das Steak war jedoch richtig gut! Die Preise waren im Durchschnitt trotzdem 10-20% zu viel für das was man bekommen hat. Zum Steak essen zu empfehlen. Fisch und Schnitzel eher weniger

Unfortunately disappointing - not a recommendation We ate at the Strandräuber in Duhnen with 14 people and were unfortunately completely disappointed. The food came remarkably quickly - everything was on the table just 2 minutes after ordering. For us, this is a clear sign that the food wasn't freshly cooked, but rather just warmed up. The overall quality of the food was very poor: everything was extremely fatty, some of the fried potatoes contained black, hard pieces of fat, and the plaice tasted of nothing - except old fat. We would have expected much more from a restaurant on the North Sea. None of us were happy, and we definitely won't be returning.

A middle class restaurant in every respect. Tourist catering without any special ambience, pizzazz or outstanding service. You'll be full, yes, but I can't say that this restaurant will be particularly memorable
