Great food and service in the Die Kantina in the city of Freiburg im Breisgau, just few miles from the Freanch border toward Colmar. The local wine is great. Very typical German Family Restaurant.

Eating is like that. Knöpfle from the bag and butterfly noodle from the package, although an expensive price is charged. Place is beautiful! Glasses piled up on the counter look very unhygienic when walking past to the toilet.

We wanted to eat something there. But unfortunately we weren't allowed into the restaurant but only into the beer garden. Unfortunately we had to sit in the blazing sun without umbrellas. I won't be coming back

Today we went to the cantina again, which we have known for many years. The food was very good. The portions are sufficient, even for really good eaters. But the highlight, apart from the ambience, is the service. There are rarely such loving and friendly people in Freiburg. The Professionalism and commitment to this job, despite a very busy locality, are hard to beat. Please keep it up. Thank you very much and we would love to come back.

Great service and atmosphere, but very average food. Considering the price, I expected it to be much better. If you here to drink beer - that’s fine, if you’re looking for good food - search for other place.

If you want to have a cozy and really tasty meal in Freiburg, I can really recommend 'Die Kantina'. You come in and just feel good. The food menu leaves nothing to be desired. I once tried the homemade tarte flambée with pumpkin. Hmmm...really great! Guys, definitely give it a try! The almost all young staff are also very pleasant and you can tell that the team is well coordinated. Don't read any further...go there!!! 😄

Six of us were there for dinner today. The food was very tasty and the portions were absolutely sufficient. The price is also absolutely reasonable. The large vegetarian selection was particularly well received - even by non-vegetarians! Service was also great. Nice, unobtrusive, but still very attentive at all times, even though at times all the tables were almost full. The ambience is simple, but offers plenty of space. It was relatively loud, but we were still able to have a conversation without any problems even though the dining room was full. There are enough parking spaces and the toilets were clean. All in all, an absolute recommendation!

Highly recommended. This was my second time there within a year and all three people were again very satisfied with the food. Interesting, varied dishes, excellent in taste. We'll go again next year. I strongly recommend making a reservation during a trade fair.

This is the third time that the food was bad.

Yesterday, Saturday, February 25th, at 7:00 p.m., dinner with a group of 10 friends at this restaurant. The first time I visited some time ago, there was only darkness outside, slightly lit by a sad street lamp. But now a new district with modern standards has emerged from this nothingness, and the canteen remains there unchanged, retaining its architectural charm from another era and its special atmosphere. Friendly service from a friendly waitress who served us in a very good mood. We stayed for about three and a half hours and were the last to leave, leaving with an excellent impression. The bill didn't bring any unpleasant surprises either - very reasonable prices for times of crisis.
In summary: Absolutely recommended!

The two of us had dinner here in the evening on January 18, 2025. We had salad with goat's cream cheese and goat's cheese carbonara. We were both more or less disappointed with our food. The taste of the salad or dressing was very bland and boring, the pasta sauce was downright sour and we had half the portion returned. The prices for both the food and the drinks are extremely expensive, so you just expect the food to be of the same quality. The service was average and the atmosphere was okay too. We probably won't come again. Prices: Grape juice spritzer 0.4l 4.90€, salad with goat's cream cheese 18.90@

Wir hatten zu Beginn unserer gestrigen Veranstaltung einen sehr freundlichen Empfang mit Glühwein und Glühgin am Lagerfeuer im Garten. Ein schöner Start! Der für uns eingedeckten Tisch für 15 Personen war genau so wie gewünscht, der Service freundlich und sehr aufmerksam, alle 15 Essen kamen zeitgleich und es hat uns allen sehr gut geschmeckt. Die Feldsalate vorweg sehr gut, die Fleischgerichte alle á point (Schweinebäckchen sehr zu empfehlen!), die Weine dazu, das Dessert danach, … alles in allem ausgezeichnet. Jeder Teller war leer :-) Ein großes Kompliment an die Küche! Wir kommen wieder. Danke für diesen kulinarischen und so schönen Abend bei euch!

A few days ago I was able to celebrate my birthday in the art barn and it was great! From communication during the reservation to the offer to the celebration, everything went smoothly and there was always quick response to any questions. The food, drinks, location and especially the staff were impeccable. I would celebrate there again at any time or just go there for dinner.

Went on saturday 21st December around 9pm. Only 2 left dishes were available (2 salads and flammkuchen). Although the place was almost empty, we waited for 20+ minutes for 4 easy drinks order (juice, beer, wein). There was always a forgotten dish - we had to remind the waitress about it. The reason that really convinced me to take the time and write this review is the veeeryyyy bad tables. We all hurt our knees in those solid hard tables which just have poor design. They are fit for 4 people but the table feet are plced exactly where you place your knees. 3 out of 4 people we left with blue knees. So yeah, pretty terrible experience.

Wonderful food! There are very classic but also unusual dishes. Our whole group was more than happy with the amazing food and we will definitely be back.

The best thing about the restaurant is, without a doubt, the service. Professional and friendly. Especially Nani, an Italian waitress whose name I don't remember and another waitress who speaks perfect Spanish. They turn dinner into a “sehr gemütlich” experience.

Very nice restaurant on the outskirts of Freiburg. There is good German, regional cuisine. There is also a very well-chosen drinks menu with a wide selection of different wines. The prices are very fair. Service friendly and quick. We were there without a reservation and were lucky to get a table, so make sure to reserve. Highly recommended.

Very good restaurant with great food in a Mediterranean atmosphere. In summer there is a lovely large outdoor area with swings and a sandpit for children. Dishes are very good. The schnitzel is particularly recommended. Good value for money. Quiet location

We celebrated our wedding in the cantina on November 8th, 2024. The rooms are very nice, the adjoining room we rented was really quaint and very nice. The food was very tasty and really top quality, service was excellent and always there when you needed something. It was a lovely evening all around. We had dinner in “Die Kantina” on a Sunday evening. The dining room was a bit too cold for my taste for an evening in November. The door was open and so a constant procession passed our table. The food was okay. I wasn't asked about the doneness of the meat. That's why I went with Medium, but unfortunately it was a bit too much for me. Luckily it wasn't too tough. The lamb's lettuce was good. However, the sauce could have used a little more dignity. The dessert was very tasty. Creme Brulee 🥰 not too sweet! Very good! The waitresses were very friendly, a bit confused towards the end :) but that was nice 🤗

Been going here for 10 years & it's gotten worse each time. With a meal and drink costing just under €45 per person, we were seriously charged for an extra glass of tap water in the summer, which was ordered in addition to the drinks. Seriously, it was charged! Once I ordered steak to take away and after 40 minutes of waiting it was brought out to me without a bag even though I had my hands full with strollers etc. After asking, I finally received a paper bag 10 MINUTES later. Back yesterday, lamb's lettuce to take away. I felt like I was on a hidden camera! Ordered salad inside and was told it would take 10 minutes. Came in after 15, only about 5 tables were occupied. Two lamb's lettuces go past me and out to the tables. I was completely ignored by all 3 employees for 5 minutes until the new/young one was the only one who noticed me, one was eating behind the counter and the middle-aged one with the birthmark on her face completely IGNORED ME. My salad is still not ready either. I get a disparaging look from the elderly female waitress who ignored my request and my hello when I ordered. At some point the waiting and ignoring went on for so long that I became impatient and ran towards my colleague who was looking for something in front of the kitchen, then the middle-aged woman made a huge fuss. I then said again that I had been waiting for a lamb's lettuce to take away for almost half an hour and she then became very rude and annoyed with me. Finally, my lamb's lettuce finally arrived with OLD, not fresh croutons and bacon, which I then ate at home and was annoyed about almost 14 euros lost, a bad salad with ancient croutons that tasted rancid and about 30 lost minutes and a lot of Galama. I've heard from a lot of people that the service is terrible, especially when it comes to older colleagues. This time it was also the food and I definitely won't come here again! I've spent a lot of money here over the years and that's just because they're always open. I definitely won't set foot in here again! Then I'd rather order somewhere else and it will probably arrive fresher. No thanks!!!!!!

You can eat very well here, the quality is quite high but somehow nothing stands out. The burger and the schnitzel are particularly recommended. But you should also try the desserts and home-made lemonades.

We have been eating there for years in the summer or when guests come to visit. The dishes on the menu always taste good. In the evenings we were often served by a really great waitress who had been working there for years. But when it comes to dishes from the lunch table, for example, the chef seems overwhelmed and the staff can't handle criticism, or the waiter was very overstimulated.

The reservation came 35 minutes late and our group would have gotten the table, but then they arrived and the table was taken away from us. In a normal restaurant a reservation doesn't arrive after 15 minutes. Really a disgrace!

Called yesterday and was there at lunchtime with 18 people: very fast service, super nice service and delicious food. Absolutely and 100% recommended!!!

You would not expect this fantastic Mexican restaurant in this area. Great service (you feel heartily welcome), great atmosphere and - the best - great food. Try the Surf & Turf Tortilla Salad plus a glass of 19 Crimes red wine.

The service staff tried very hard, the ambience is nice but too loud. The food tasted good but for €19 the portion was a joke, so I left the restaurant hungry, which has never happened to me before

Unfortunately, the food was nothing: cordon bleu was not cooked through and tasteless, brägele was also unseasoned. Half went back. Only the service was very friendly. Unfortunately for us, the first and last visit was a shame.

Das Personal sehr sehr nett. Wir hatten nichts reserviert und konnten "nur" am Tresen sitzen. Würden aber hier so herzlich bedient, was mittlerweile wirklich selten ist.

Food here is great, no contest; the place is rather casual/fancy, the place is busy, so staff are always in a hurry, which stresses them out and makes them less likely to be patient with difficult guests. I'd recommend booking and ordering in advance as to have that sorted out and enjoy your food at leisure.

Everyone really enjoyed the food and we had no complaints about the mixed drinks either

Never again! We've been here a few times and each time we've had to wait a long time for our food. The last visit was too much. We had to alert the waiter three times that we still didn't get our food. When we were frustrated and wanted to leave after 2 hours, the food finally arrived (schnitzel and Badener Trio). It was unseasoned and tasted of nothing. The long waiting time and the bad food ruined our evening.

We would rather not come back. The food: Unfortunately I didn't like the schnitzel with fried potatoes at all, the schnitzel was weak and a bit tough, the fried potatoes were mostly still hard and not sufficiently fried for my taste. The staff made an effort, but I believe that they are more student assistants than trained for the job. Unfortunately I had to get up twice and see the staff. First, because we needed salt and sauces (to add flavor to the food) and again because the mayonnaise bottle I specifically asked for was empty. I would also have been happy if my dog ​​had been offered some water. Of course, the restaurant can't do anything about the very loud noise of the guests, but unfortunately we couldn't have a conversation at room volume. All in all, it was unfortunately a letdown for us this evening. However, I don't want to deduct many stars straight away, as our evening was of course only a snapshot.

Das einzige Mädel in der Schicht. An dieser Stelle, ein ganz großes Kompliment. Das ist außergewöhnlich und macht viel Freude hier Gast zu sein. Das Mittagessen war sehr gut . Wir kommen seit vielen Jahren hier her, und wie man sieht, werden wir immer wieder aufs Neue begeistert . Danke , ganz besonders für den super Service.

On the tracks under palm trees. 35th wedding anniversary, we wanted to end it especially in the cantina. The white wine from the well-known winemaker in the region came in the chiller, very attentively at 28 degrees in the evening. I had a salad plate with grilled chicken. 👍I haven't eaten so deliciously in a long time. Hats off. You can notice the handwriting of the kitchen staff. Even the salad dressing tasted delicious and was well measured. At the counter, the employee sang along to the music. That's when you notice the passion for work. We'd love to come cycling again. Sat outside in the beer garden. Very nice atmosphere. The food was very nice, in my opinion a bit expensive, a burger €18.90. The staff could have asked again if you wanted something to drink and always had to draw our attention to us, even though we were there on a Tuesday and not on the weekend. But I would recommend the restaurant because of the location and the fine food.

The food was delicious. However, at 10 p.m. the chairs at all tables were put up and the bill was brought to “compliment” us. Opening time is until 11 p.m. and we didn't make a reservation until 9 p.m. due to a long drive. The wave at the end of the day was probably more important than good customer service. I would therefore not come back again.

We ate outside. The food (burgers, salad, schnitzel) was excellent. The staff is attentive and courteous. The dog was immediately provided with water. The ambience is cozy and atmospheric. Worst service we have ever experienced. We didn't even get to eat. We called at lunchtime today and wanted to reserve a table, but we were told to just come and they wouldn't reserve. When we arrived, all tables were reserved except the ones in the blazing sun. Then we were asked if we had reserved. I said I called, then he said yes, that was for me (just ridiculous and unprofessional) and it was probably not the right job for him. When I brought it up and said I would like to sit in the shade, the waiter told us we didn't have to eat with them. So we left again and will never come back here.

Geschäftlich hat es uns in diesen Biergarten gezogen. Nicht weit hiervon hatten wir unser Hotel in einem aus dem Boden gestampften Neubaugebiet bezogen. Durch Zufall morgens mit dem Auto an diesem Biergarten vorbeigefahren.. ein altes über 100 Jahre altes Gebäude gehört. betritt man den Biergarten, fühlt man sich wie in einer alten tollen neuen Zeit. Angefangen beim Personal so freundlich. So nett habe ich seit Jahren nicht erlebt, mit welchem Elan die jungen Darm die Getränke aufnehmen das Essen servieren. Chapeau kann ich nur sagen, und ich gehe 2-3 mal in der Woche in irgendeinem Restaurant in Deutschland essen. Wichtig im Biergarten ist die Auswahl an Getränken, aufgrund des sehr warmen Wetters zogen wir Radler vor, serviert im 0,5 l Gebinde kühl lecker klasse Dazu bestellten wir Schnitzel mit Pommes und Salat . Das Schnitzel hatte die XX XXL Größe ohne Pommes hätte es auch gereicht. Nach dem Schnitzel war man satt schmeckte toll es war lecker einfach nur super Ich kann viele schlechte Bewertungen hier nicht nachvollziehen. Wenn ich keinen Tisch bekommen habe oder telefonisch irgendwas abgesagt wurde dann gehört das auch nicht rein weil ich soll ja hier das Restaurant werden und nicht die Umstände herum Also ich kann es wirklich nur empfehlen. Die beste Zeit war bei uns 18:00 Uhr. Ab 19:00 Uhr wurde es merklich voll im Biergarten und das an einem Mittwoch . Wir kommen definitiv weder die Gäste hatten alle Spaß wie gesagt das Personal super motiviert und freundlich. Ich hoffe es bleibt so, wenn wir in einem Jahr wiederkommen.

I don't understand the good reviews. My food was terrible, worst schnitzel I ever had, the meat tasted bad and the salad had many leafs that were rotten. Service was average at best. On top of that they charge almost 3 euro for a glass of tap water. And when we went to pay they they had the audacity to ask for a tip!
