Restaurant Cox in Hamburg

The food is truly good—French, haute cuisine, and highly recommended for its taste. Unfortunately, the evening was still difficult to enjoy: the noise level in the restaurant was enormous, and the acoustics were terrible. I could barely understand my companion at the table for two; we practically had to shout at each other. This restaurant is unfortunately not suitable for people who appreciate a bit of peace and quiet or are sensitive to noise.

We are a rather clumsy and chaotic group - 2 adults, a toddler and the dog. The team was very patient and friendly with us, attentive and super helpful. Food was great - vegetarian and mild flavour options available for the kid. Wine recommended was perfect, see the picture.

Once again, it was really good. Highly recommended in St. Georg. A super delicious menu every time, friendly service, and a lovely atmosphere. Don't forget to make a reservation!

Excellent, uncompromising cuisine in a classic yet unpretentious atmosphere. What impressed us most, however, was the service. A lady who could personally define the word "social competence" cared for our nine-year-old daughter so touchingly that, among other things, she personally went into the kitchen to chop raw vegetables for her – twice. Such care and genuine humanity, despite a full house on a Saturday night, are rare. That seems to be the general tone here, too, as we observed. Truly remarkable. Thank you!

How fortunate that places like Cox exist. A uniquely reliable, unpretentious service in a French atmosphere. A menu that's always spoiled for choice—in other words, you could order anything, and it'll always be delicious.

The style of a French bistro and restaurant has been well implemented. A small menu is served at lunch, and a more extensive menu is offered in the evenings. There are always unique, interesting combinations. The chef is a co-owner, which ensures consistently high quality. The service is also always friendly and professional, with little turnover – a good sign. It took a while, but finally, guests no longer have to search for an ATM, which made spontaneous visits or bringing others difficult. My tongue loves the Cox – time and time again.

A very small menu that changes weekly. The food was excellent. The service was very friendly and prompt. The seating was very pleasant. And at the end of the meal, you get an excellent espresso.

Nice restaurant in a nice area of Hamburg. Some interest food selection and they also serve seasonal dishes. Friendly and helpful staff that makes dining there even more enjoyable. Gets really busy and reservations definitely recommended.

After this wonderful evening yesterday, you obviously deserve 5 stars. One star for the interesting, at times exciting menu. One star for the kitchen and the food, which was incredibly good. Two stars for the fantastic, friendly, professional, competent, and calm service despite the large number of guests. And one star for your dessert expert, who conjured up arguably the best Café Gourmand (he called it a variation). We'd love to come back soon!!!

First things first: The food is high-quality. The wine selection is OK. Personally, I find the ambiance there, due to its construction, much too loud. There are now enough ways to make a room's noise disappear into the walls. You just have to want it. I was somewhat disappointed by the staff on the evening of May 13, 2025. Attentive, but not intrusive, I've learned. Unfortunately, my impression was different. For a zero-star restaurant in this price range, you can expect more. Perhaps the expansion hasn't done the COX any good. In conclusion, it's certainly a great place for long-time St. Georgians to meet their neighbors or business associates, but as a returning visitor or newcomer, you won't receive a very warm welcome there, in my opinion.

Nice harmonious restaurant. I liked the service, very relaxed and yet competent. The food was great, even with the smaller selection everyone found something and everyone was really satisfied.

The service was really excellent – ​​super nice and attentive. Our drinks were brought quickly and the waitress was very friendly. That definitely contributed to the pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food wasn't quite as convincing. I was particularly disappointed with the “Pot au Feu” – unfortunately it was pretty tasteless and didn’t meet my expectations. This definitely could have used more spice and flavor. Another point that struck me negatively was the women's toilets. Unfortunately, they smelled unpleasant, which didn't really contribute to a positive overall impression.

Wir waren zur Nachfeier eines Geburtstages mit fünf Personen im Cox. Es fiel gleich auf, dass bereits kurz nach Öffnung um 18 Uhr am Sonnabend das Restaurant gut gefüllt war - zahlreiche Theaterbesucher machen hier vor der Vorstellung einen Besuch. Besonders auffällig auch der zahlenmäßig gut besetzte Service, der durch Geschwindigkeit und Freundlichkeit zu beeindrucken wußte. Die Karte bot gute Auswahl, die Vorspeisen standen schnell auf dem Tisch und wußten wie die folgenden Hauptgänge und Desserts zu gefallen. Mit Gläschen Cremant am Start, drei Flaschen Wein, Wasser und Kaffee am Schluss standen 570€ zu Buch - angemessen. Einziger Wermutstropfen ist der Geräuschpegel, da die Tisch doch recht eng gestellt sind. Wir kommen trotzdem wieder.

Today, 13 of us had lunch at the Cox Restaurant. Our server was very friendly and competent. She patiently attended to all our requests and also looked after us well in between. The menu, available from 12 to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays, consists of a lunch menu, a daily special, and a choice of dessert. All the dishes sounded interesting. I chose the venison frikadelle. The dish and its accompanying side dishes were delicious. My friends had the baked plaice curry tempura, and they also ordered the kale. Everyone thought the dishes were delicious. For dessert, we had a hazelnut cake with dried fruit compote and blood orange sorbet or vanilla ice cream. Everyone also loved the dessert. We would love to come back and thank you for this experience.

Lovely place with good food over the standard but nothing I would remember

I had dinner at Cox Restaurant today. A quality on all levels that is second to none. Constantly changing dishes, a lot of culinary craftsmanship brought to the point. Cheers for that. Fantastic restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Every time I am impressed by the quality of the food. You can expect very fine home cooking, anything but conventional! It is particularly recommended to dine at lunchtime, where there are daily changing dishes at a reasonable price. It's worth making a reservation.

Wir hatten einen wundervollen Abend, der Service war ausgezeichnet. Mona war schnell, aufmerksam und freundlich. Die glasierten Scheiben vom Ferkelbauch und das Lammfilet fanden wir besonders gelungen. Bei unserem nächsten Aufenthalt in Hamburg kommen wir gewiss wieder.

The Cox impresses with a stylish ambience and excellent cuisine. The veal fillet in particular was a highlight: perfectly cooked and a real pleasure in combination with the wonderfully coordinated side dishes. The selection of non-alcoholic wines is also remarkable - the non-alcoholic Riesling was particularly tasty for me. The only point of criticism: Unfortunately, the restaurant does not accept Visa cards - a surprise and difficult to understand for 2024. When asked, it was said that there has been no contract with Visa for 31 years. In times when card payments are standard, this should urgently be reconsidered. Overall, a recommendable restaurant with great food and fine service - if the payment options were expanded in a timely manner, there would be nothing to complain about.

Var på Cox i forbindelse med en hyggeweekend i Hamborg. Stemningen på Cox er ganske dejlig, personalet venligt og hjælpsomt, menuen begrænset (dejligt) og med et fornuftigt vinkort. Vi var fire personer til aftensmad. To voksne, samt søn og kæreste - begge 20 år. Vi fik alle forskellige forretter og tre forskellige hovedretter. Alt relativt hurtigt serveret, indbydende serveringer og ganske pæne portioner. Og ikke mindst - velsmagende hele vejen rundt. Alle var godt tilfredse..... Samlet pris incl. en fornuftig flaske hvidvin, vand og en enkelt sodavand - ca. 220 EUR. Ikke helt skævt! Eneste lille irritationsmoment var den ellers søde tjener der skulle afregne. Meget påtrængende omkring drikkepenge og med hovedet helt nede i kortterminalen da vi skulle indtaste beløb. Det kan gøres bedre og mere diskret. Men det skal nu ikke afholde os fra at komme forbi en anden gang :-)

La comida es excelente aquí! Tuve dos aperitivos - burrata con tomates y carpaccio de res. Ambos eran increíbles. A menudo tomo carpaccio de res cuando salgo a cenar. Lo uso como medida de lo buena que es la comida. Este es con mucho el mejor carpaccio de ternera que he probado. Estaba cubierto con sorbete, lo que lo hacía muy especial. El personal aquí es muy agradable. Parece que la mayoría de los clientes aquí son locales y no turistas.

Dieses Restaurant liegt im Stadtteil St. Georg unweit vom Hauptbahnhof. Nach Reservierung hatten wir gegen 19:00 Uhr noch die freie Auswahl für einen Tisch. Die Speisekarte ist sehr übersichtlich. Es werden 2 Fisch- und 2 Fleischgerichte angeboten. Wir bestellten Ravioli (18 €) und Rinderrückensteak mit Piementos und dicken Pommes Frites (33,50 €). Das Fleischgewicht lag bei ca. 100-120 Gramm. Es war zäh und voller Sehnen. Der Preis war inakzeptabel hoch. Die Präsentation war Durchschnitt. Die Ravioli waren okay. Das Mineralwasser wird offen in einer Karaffe ausgeschenkt. Für 0,2 l werden 2,50 € berechnet. Demzufolge kostet 1 Liter Wasser hier 12,50 €. Das Bier der Marke Jever Fun wird mit 4 € berechnet. Im Supermarkt wird die Flasche mit weniger als 1 € verkauft. Die Mitarbeiterin fragte mich nach meiner Zufriedenheit. Ich antwortete, dass die Menge und Qualität vom Fleisch schlecht war. Von ihr gab es dazu keine Antwort und keine Kompensation. Insgesamt war der Service unaufmerksam und wenig bemüht.

It is a cosy restaurant. We booked a table in advance: it was a good decision as it became quite full later on. The staff is rather disorganised, chaotic, so it took some time to attract waiter’s attention to make our order. The bread was fresh and served with butter. The taste was good. We ordered ravioli with spinach and ricotta. It was served on the broth with mushrooms and topped with Parmesan (why?). The taste of broth was good, ravioli itself average. Total rating: nothing special. Priced 18.- euro We ordered rump steak. Charged 32,- it was served with chips and some vegetables. It was just a disaster. The feeling of chewing a dole of a rubber boot. Too tough. Why to offer such meal (meat quality) in such a fine restaurant. We were disappointed. Water in a carafe 200 ml charged 2.5 euro about. Boh! Bad value for money. Too expensive for what you get.

Wir waren im COX in Hamburg, um den Geburtstag meines Ehemanns zu feiern. Leider begann der Abend mit einer Enttäuschung: Uns wurde mitgeteilt, dass angeblich das Restaurant angerufen und wir die Reservierung auf fünf Personen reduziert hätten. Das stimmte jedoch nicht, sodass wir schließlich mit acht Personen an einem sehr engen Tisch saßen. Trotz dieses Missverständnisses war das Essen, wie bei unseren früheren Besuchen, ausgezeichnet. Ich genoss den Pulpo und die Maishuhnbrust, beides war äußerst lecker und perfekt zubereitet. Das Niveau der Küche ist stets sehr hoch und hat uns auch dieses Mal nicht enttäuscht.

Vor 2 Jahren schon sehr gut. Heute mit unserem schwerkranken Sohn hier. Er wollte keine eigene Vorspeise, sondern meine probieren. Sie servierten ihm eine eigene Miniportion der sehr guten Fischsuppe. Dann bekam er plötzlich einen Krampfanfall. Das gesamte Team sehr professionell und emphatisch. Nur halbe Rechnung gestellt. Taxi besorgt, Wein und Wasser :-) mitgegeben. Extrem gut in extremer Situation. Danke!

This is a fantastic place! This was the best restaurant in two days in Hamburg. There were a lot of visitors but the quality of the food was excellent. The atmosphere was very pleasant. The service was wonderful. We'll definitely be back.

My favorite restaurant in Hamburg next to the Nile. Super tasty, real French bistro feeling, decent price-performance ratio. You have to book my favorite seat at the front of the window facing the Lange Reihe well in advance. Today, when my ladies decided that for calorie reasons they would rather try my caramelized cream puff than order their own, the waitress brought me three cream puffs on a plate. Of course I'll come back here again and again!

Wie immer eine phantastische Erfahrung im Cox. Anfänglich muss man die neuen Gäste angesichts der eher kargen Einrichtung noch motivieren, spätestens aber nach der Vorspeise und ab 19:30 erledigt sich das. Die raffinierten Gerichte in Kombination mit dem handfesten, humorvollen, sehr aufmerksamen und tollen Service überzeugen immer wieder.

Det var 2.gang vi besøgte stedet. Denne gang var gæstfriheden ikke lige så varm som sidt. Tjeneren var meget hurtig til at ville rydde af, også inden vi begge var færdige med maden. Lyttede ikke ordentligt efter bestillinger,så der var ventetid på den ene kaffe og dessert- drink. Er drikkepenge forventelige når servicen halter? Ikke i vores optik. Maden var god og vi prøver igen. Næste år i håbet om at i dag var en off-day.

A great discovery, we visited the restaurant almost by chance. We haven't experienced such great service in a very long time. All colleagues are extremely attentive, friendly, warm and open to conversation despite the full house. The food was very good, when one of us didn't order a starter, a small free (!) soup was still brought so that the other didn't have to eat alone. We've never experienced anything like this before. The Cox was the highlight of our trip to Hamburg, which was actually dedicated to Caspar-David Friedrich. In addition to very friendly service, a tasteful ambience and excellent cuisine (beef broth/lamb shoulder/parfait), we also had pole position next to the counter. The evening was rounded off with a Pinot Gris and a Pinot Noir from Baden from Holger Koch. We thank you very much again!

Service was quick and attentive. Unfortunately we weren't allowed in beforehand and would be let in at 6 p.m. sharp. Very unfortunate. Food was tasty but portions were very small. That's probably the way it should be in fine dining. The only thing that bothered me was the small table, the wobbly chair, the high noise level and the really unpleasant smell coming from the toilets.

We visited the restaurant on site after making a reservation. The arrangement of the tables and the noise level are unreasonable. Tables that are so close together only lead to the assumption that it's all about maximizing profits. You have to listen to the guests at the neighboring tables and they also hear what you have to tell your partner. You're in close contact, so to speak. Likewise with the service staff, who hardly have a chance of not touching the table or the guest or getting too close. Due to this arrangement, the noise level is so high that a normal conversation is only possible with a raised voice. Relaxed is really quite different. We then deliberately avoided dessert and a digestif. The service, on the other hand, is very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. However, the positive properties are very negatively influenced by the things mentioned above, so we will refrain from further visits, as the price-performance ratio would then no longer be described as good. If other people enjoy dining in noise and confinement, that's fine. If we're going to spend a little more money on wine and food, then do it somewhere where you don't have to shout at each other and where things are relaxed.

The Cox is a nice restaurant in a central location with a great ambience and high quality dishes. My companion and I were at one Friday evening there, we had previously reserved. The restaurant was at full capacity, every table was occupied. For our taste, you sit very close to other guests and it is therefore tight. Nevertheless, it was completely fine as the other guests were pleasant. Due to the high utilization, the service was a little faster. Nevertheless, overall we were completely satisfied, the atmosphere is nice and invites you to linger. There were two of us and we shared a main course as a starter: Ravioli with truffled cream spinach, 3/5 Somehow the dish was missing that certain something. The truffle note was barely noticeable. For the main course we had the zander fillet and the duck. Both dishes were very consistent and tasty. 5/5 For dessert we had the Opfenschlüpfer with sour cream ice cream. 5/5 The ice cream tasted very refreshing. We also had open red wines. These are generously served in 0.2. We liked it, only deducted because of the starter and the limited space.

Leider hat bei allem Positiven der Geruch der Toiletten, der bis in den Gastraum die Treppe hochzog meine Nase beleidigt. Ich hoffe, diesem Problem kann bald Abhilfe geschafft werden.

Ich habe einen Gutschein für das Restaurant geschenkt bekommen. Wir haben unter der Woche einen Termin gemacht, da am Wochenende nur Samstag auf ist. Wir waren zu dritt und alle haben Entenkeule mit Klößen und Rotkohl bestellt. Das Essen war sehr lecker und die Portion war in Ordnung. Preislich eher etwas zu teuer für das was man bekommt. Für 3 Personen haben wir einen kleinen Tisch bekommen was sehr eng für uns war. Ich konnte mit Visa Karte nicht bezahlen - obwohl alle andere Zalungsarten möglich waren. Auf meine Nachfrage warum, kam die Antwort - kostet Geld... Für uns war das Restaurant zu klein, zu laut und bisschen zu teuer für das was man bekommt.

Hyggelig restaurant - rigtig god mad (velsmagende), OK vinkort - men alt for meget larm. Det undrer, at akustikken på mange restauranter ikke bliver forbedret, og denne var desværre ingen undtagelse. Når det er sagt, så en god oplevelse med rigtig god betjening. Deres retter med fisk var rigtig gode.

Das Cox ist eine echte Gourmet Institution in Hamburg in super Lage für den weiteren Abend. Irgendwie liegt „Herbies Geist“ immer noch etwas über diesem tollen Ort. Auch wenn Holger und Tilo mit Ihrem Dream Team den schönen Raum mittlerweile vollends ausfüllen und prägen. Seit vielen Jahren komme ich immer wieder hier her und es ist immer wieder super lecker, viele neue Gerichte, ein dauerhaftes mega nettes und zuvorkommendes Stammteam im Service, ein ganz besonderer Moment. Cox halt. Bleibt bitte so. Der French Bistro Style mit lecker Drinks und Weinkarte lockt ein vielseitiges gemischtes sehr freundliches Publikum an. Der Gruss aus der Küche war - zur Überraschung vegetarisch - und ganz und gar wundervoll. Weiter ging es mit raffinierter Salatvariation und dann zur französischen Fischsuppe. Gruss in die Küche, die war stark, genauso wie die Sauce Rouille. Der Hauptgang hat uns alle überzeugt. Die Weinkarte ist fein sortiert und lecker abgestimmt. Desserts seit Jahren immer wieder der Knaller. Bis bald in der Langen Reihe!

Ich würde den Style französisch einfach bezeichnen. Uns hat’s sehr gut gefallen. Vielleicht alles ein wenig zu eng. Aber das gehört hier dazu und gerade der super Service hat es geschafft galant dadurch zu navigieren. Das Essen war vorzüglich. Gerne wieder.

Was soll man sagen? Von der Vorspeise, über den Hauptgang hin zu den Getränke einfach perfekt. Der Service ist super. Was man wissen muss ist, dass MasterCard und Visa nicht akzeptiert werden, sondern Bargeld, EC Karte und American Express.

Guter, freundlicher Service und leckeres Essen. Aber der Geräuschpegel ist eine absolute Zumutung. Man kann sich nur anschreiben, um sich zu unterhalten und das tun natürlich auch alle anderen. Bezahlung nur mit ec und American express ist auch ein bisschen wenig. Aber sonst, alles gut.

Gutes, leckeres Essen. Herzlicher Service. Gemütliches Ambiente mit schöner Patina.

Das Essen ist fantastisch! Wenn auch zum gehobenen preislichen Niveau, aber jeden Euro wert. Die Bedienung ist authentisch Hanseatisch und freundlich. Nur ist die Geräuschkulisse etwas anstrengend. Eindeutig mein Lieblingsrestaurant!

Wir waren das erste Mal in Hamburg und sind zufällig im Cox eingekehrt. Das Personal war überaus freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen war absolut erstklassig und die Weinauswahl sehr gut. Wir waren sehr zufrieden. Die Desserts waren ebenfalls Spitze.

Das Cox im Hamburger Stadtteil St. Georg hat ein angenehmes Ambiente. Das Personal ist ausgesprochen freundlich. Die Weinkarte ist klein, aber fein. Die Mittagskarte ist leider sehr eingeschränkt, wobei zu allem Überfluss auch noch die vegetarischen Gerichte überwiegen. Wer wie ich gerne ein Stück Fleisch isst, kommt im Cox nicht auf seine Kosten. Die Preise zum Mittagstisch sind moderat.

Das Essen schwankt immer wieder ein bisschen zwischen außergewöhnlich und gut. Die Fischsuppe war etwas enttäuschend, der Nachtisch ein Gedicht....

Ich hatte kürzlich mit meinem Partner das Vergnügen, dass Restaurant Cox in der Langen Reihe/Greifswalder Str. in Hamburg, genauer gesagt in St. Goerge, zu besuchen. Und ich bzw. wir müssen sagen, es war ein absolutes kulinarische Highlight. Das Essen im Restaurant war traumhaft gut. Das Personal war überaus freundlich, aufmerksam und zuvorkommenden. Alles in allem können wir das Cox weiterempfehlen. Wir werden den definitiv wiederkommen, denn es hat uns begeistert.

Wir waren mit 6 Personen zum Abendessen im Cox. Der Tisch war sehr ansprechend eingedeckt. Das Personal äußerst kompetent. 6 Vorspeisen, Hauptspeisen im Kopf, ohne etwas aufzuschreiben, findet man auch nur noch selten. Die jungen Damen des Personals waren immer zu einem Spaß aufgelegt. Somit hatten wir einen unvergeßlichen Abend im Cox. Und über das erstklassige Essen und die perfekte Weinauswahl müssen wir gar nicht erst reden, einfach nur gut.

A fantastic restaurant with great service, excellent food, and setting. Each dish on the menu has personality and demonstrates a mastery of bistro-cuisine. From a diverse range of wines and juices, through to creative dishes such as the boar sausages, this restaurant caused all 6 members of my group to absolutely clean our plates. The waitresses were excellent and made the whole experience smooth, accommodating easily for English speakers as well. A lovely experience and I look forward to visiting again.

Wir haben einen Familienabend sehr genossen. Der Service war unbeschreiblich aufmerksam, herzlich und toll. Das Essen war auch fantastisch.
