Bullerei in Hamburg

I made a last-minute reservation and was surprised to get a table. Since we arrived by car, I was pleasantly surprised to find ample parking in the immediate vicinity. The relaxed industrial ambiance immediately puts you at ease. Fun details, like a converted shopping cart, reflect the creativity and unconventional vibe. The service is extremely attentive – my grandma would have said "on the ball" 😉 , as well as relaxed and entertaining. Despite the venue being full, there was no wait at all! The menu is wonderfully clear, so I expected fresh ingredients. I was not disappointed. As a welcome from the kitchen, there was rustic bread in a carefully designed bag with a tomato spread. I got the crispy crust and was glad my teeth were still fully intact. I wasn't so enthusiastic about the spread. It lacked a bit of zing. But I thought it was a nice touch. The main course followed: the three dumplings on spinach were slightly dry and a touch too firm, but very delicately seasoned. I particularly enjoyed the spinach and beetroot dumplings. The delicate sauce foam and the steamed spinach were also perfectly seasoned and rounded off the dish. I found the cucumber salad very well seasoned – not too acidic and not too sweet. The fresh dill really came through. I ordered dessert: Chock Bäm… a very nice variation with popcorn ice cream, a kind of chocolate tart, some passion fruit, and a wonderfully unsweet chocolate sauce. A light crunch from a kind of chocolate caramel lattice, topped with a small herb that added a hint of licorice. A well-rounded composition, which I finished with an espresso. However, it was a touch too roasted for my liking. Overall, I really enjoyed the evening. The value for money is excellent. We would gladly come back.

Cool location! We went there spontaneously one evening and were lucky to get a table! We especially loved the bread bag – something different, and the bread was delicious! The food was very tasty! Great service, a nice young man named Jannik (we think). We were very satisfied and will definitely come back!

Difficult to judge, more style than substance. I got a table immediately for lunch and the service was very quick at first. The food was okay, but the portion was quite small; I wouldn't go there again.

We had to wait quite a while for our reserved table, were simply left standing in the entrance, and received a rather unfriendly greeting. The food was okay, but the service was unfortunately lacking – it was missing that certain something. For the prices, I expect more. It's a shame when restaurants no longer consider a welcoming atmosphere and good service essential.

The service, the atmosphere, and especially the food are absolutely top-notch. I'm happy to pay the price for it every time. Whenever I'm in Hamburg, I definitely make sure to visit Bullerei at least once.

A very enjoyable evening at Bullerei. The kitchen clearly focuses on product quality: the shrimp with dipping bread were excellent, the large steak was cooked to perfection with beautiful fat and delicious roasted flavors, and the side dishes were perfectly seasoned. The service was attentive and present, but not intrusive. I liked the ambiance: an open, lively space with good lighting and lots of thoughtful details. My only personal complaint was that the music was a touch too loud; otherwise, it would have been 5/5. Regarding value for money: the price is reasonable for what the restaurant offers (product quality, cooking, presentation, and setting). Of course, you can get a more substantial meal elsewhere, but here you're consciously paying for quality and a unique concept. That's precisely why it's a very good overall experience.

Was there for a work event in the privately hired room behind the main restaurant. We were well.looked after, fed brilliantly and the atmosphere was superb. They looked after us very well. The meals were great and it was quiet enough to have a conversation easily.

And last but not least, the boss, Tim Mälzer, and Samy Deluxe were just three tables away in the restaurant. In short, love it.

I wished I would have been more adventurous. My selection was from the daily (or weekly) special was still great though. I highly recommend to visit the place. It'll be a great experience. I was in Hamburg for one night on a last-minute trip and was able to visit the Bullerei. The reservation was super easy online, and even my special request, "I'd like to sit at the bar," was honored. The friendly young man who was in charge of reception that evening escorted me to my table and, despite the incredibly busy schedule, even prepared a few things. Great! I was immediately given the menu and asked for my drink order; and what can I say: The Negroni was one of the best I've ever had! For my starter, I had the onsen egg, and I was absolutely thrilled! A sensational taste experience! Intense but not overwhelming flavor nuances meet the perfect consistency. Kudos to the kitchen staff! The main course was the chicken fricassee, and what can I say? I was actually very, very skeptical about whether it would live up to my expectations—because I have sentimental memories of this dish. Much like the critic in the Disney film "Ratatouille," I was immediately swept back to the comforting memories of my childhood. This is exactly what a chicken fricassee should taste like! Succulent, sloppy, delicious... and the spaetzle were also cooked to perfection! And yes, it's not as easy as it sounds. I do have one small criticism, though – I didn't understand the bread in the bag. The taste was very neutral, and yes, it was warm, but I wouldn't be surprised if I had returned more than three-quarters of the contents. The eggnog, however, was just as good as it was described! I'd love to come back to the Bullerei... and bring a few people along for this delicious experience. They have to enjoy the Bullerei experience too!

We were there for lunch and both ordered a smashed cheeseburger. No problem stopping by for lunch without a reservation. What can I say? It was really delicious, the burger with the cheese was simply amazing, and the value for money was simply fantastic. Fast and incredibly friendly service. We'll be back next time, we'll come in the evening.

Great restaurant, I've been there twice now. The first time I had the 4-course bacon menu, and the main course was so good that I ordered it again. Not because I was still hungry, but because it tasted so good. Last time I had the entrecôte, which was also top-notch. I would have liked to see the chef, but I wouldn't have known what they said anyway. Great evening, great team.

Four of us went to the deli for lunch. We walked in, were seated, and immediately felt at home in the wonderful atmosphere! The lunch menu is manageable—but absolutely sufficient for lunch. We ordered fast food of the highest quality. The service was super friendly. Full of energy and very satisfied with the location, we were given a very warm farewell! Dinner at the Bullerei is on our agenda for our next visit to Hamburg!

Despite having a reservation, I had to wait 30 minutes. The food was good, but the overall impression was too focused on hype rather than a pleasant evening. I'll go somewhere else, unfortunately. The service doesn't equal the quality of the food. I ask for improvements in the seating arrangements when making reservations! Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is only acceptable. During our trip to Hamburg, we got a table with Mr. Mälzer and his team. After a 10-minute wait despite having a reservation, we were finally seated. The food was fantastic, and the wait was well worth it, with a very good aperitif to make up for it.

This is our third time here; the first two were excellent, so we definitely wanted to return to the Bullerei on this Hamburg trip. Unfortunately, we didn't sit in the main restaurant this time, where the atmosphere is much more comfortable. What really stood out, however, were the over-salted side dishes (mashed potatoes, vegetable side dish, French fries). The meat was excellent, but I was very disappointed that even after pointing out the over-salted side dish to my 5-year-old daughter, they didn't offer a free replacement – ​​I'm used to it differently in restaurants. The service was otherwise very good.

I was absolutely surprised, as I hadn't looked at any photos (other than the menu) beforehand. I specified €100 because we tried a lot. Four starters, two main courses, one dessert, as well as a good bottle of wine and two Aperols. Everything was absolutely delicious, even if Tim Melzer didn't make it himself 🫣. I would have loved to see him, though; he's the only chef (after my son) I've ever had a chat with. I think from what you read and hear about him, he's still down-to-earth.

There were four of us at the Bullerei – two adults and two children – and we were absolutely thrilled! The service was outstanding: attentive, warm, and incredibly child-friendly – ​​something you rarely experience. The food was also excellent, a delight from the starter to the dessert. Update: The last lunch at Bistro Deli was pasta with seafood and a side salad. The dish was listed under the main courses and was priced accordingly. However, a portion of an appetizer was brought to the table. Guys, that's unacceptable! No matter where I go for lunch, I expect to be full after a main course with a side salad. It can't be that I have to leave the house hungry for work at a price of €25, can it? I was disappointed once again and won't be coming back. Went to Bistro Deli for lunch today. Unfortunately, we discovered that the quality and value for money have declined considerably, which I find very unfortunate. We were there for lunch. Super friendly and authentic staff. Fast and competent. The ambiance was artistic, cozy, simple, yet inviting. We sat in the front, as apparently the back area opens in the evening. The chef himself was also there, checking on things in the kitchen. Very pleasant. The food and drinks were perfect for the price. The food was also perfectly prepared and well-seasoned. We'll definitely be back. Even later in the evening.

BULLEREI, TIM MÄLZER: Delicious, well-seasoned, unusual food, served outside during the day, and in the evening in a very sophisticated, whimsical atmosphere with witty decor! The staff is very friendly!

Unfortunately, the experience here was not what we expected. First, it took a very long time for us to get our menus. I (a vegetarian) had chosen the ravioli and 10 minutes later the server came and said they were out. I find that very sad considering it was a Saturday evening when there would be a lot of people. But I have to say, the server was very nice and offered me a few alternatives. We had to wait an hour for the food and starters were forgotten and the service was not that attentive. However, the forgotten starters were on the house. Unfortunately, it was very loud and it was difficult to have a conversation. We had expected more, especially as we had traveled a long way.

We were guests at the Bullerei with our entrepreneurs' group (12 people) and ate à la carte – everyone could choose freely. The food was excellent overall, everyone was satisfied, and the service was attentive and very friendly. One thing unfortunately somewhat soured the evening for me personally: My chicken fricassee was very oversalted – so much so that even my neighbors immediately confirmed it. I calmly pointed it out, and the dish was immediately remade – the second version was perfectly seasoned, truly excellent. What irritated me, however, was that the waiter told me at one point, "The chef tasted it and thinks it's completely fine." That was unnecessary and simply left me with a bad feeling at the time. I didn't want to argue, I just wanted to politely point out the point. It's a shame, because otherwise everything was excellent – ​​the ambiance, quality, atmosphere, and organization ran smoothly. We meet monthly in different restaurants, and the Bullerei was a very good choice overall. We wish the team all the best – maybe next time everything will work out perfectly.

We were at the Bullerei with a somewhat larger group. We received a warm welcome, and the service was excellent throughout. The ambiance is a matter of taste; the music was perhaps a bit too loud for conversation. The absolute negative point, unfortunately, was the food. Some of the ravioli were very oversalted and the portions were meager for the price. The meat was probably better, but unfortunately, none of us were truly impressed. The bread to start with was very tasty, and the starters were probably more of a highlight than the main courses. Perhaps the chefs were just having a bad day, but I probably won't be coming back.

We had reserved a table at the Bullerei and were shown to the bistro. Upon request, we were told: "In the evening, everything is Bullerei." After some discussion and a bit of an extra wait, we were finally given a table in the main room, which, of course, offers a much better atmosphere! The service was prompt and friendly, and the warmed sourdough bread (with olive oil) that was immediately brought was practically the highlight of the evening. The tartar was good, but the bread that came with it was not. The shrimp were large and OK, but drowned in a garlic oil sauce that was definitely too much of a good thing. The Iberico Cordon Bleu was breaded, so-so, the filling was also "so-so," and the brown sauce didn't go with it at all—and it didn't taste good either. The two Helbings afterward unfortunately couldn't save the evening, which is a shame 🙁‼️

It was my second time there, and it was another lovely evening with a truly amazing meal. The staff (we had Polly on our side) were super friendly and competent, and it was a real treat.

A truly wonderful restaurant with great decor and good music. The food, however, was a huge disappointment. The prawns were swimming in a much too rich, oily sauce, which also contained slightly charred elements and was tasteless. The Iberico steak was well-battered but barely salted, had a bland cheese filling, and sat in a flavorless brown sauce. The salad, tartar, and sourdough bread were very good, but that wasn't enough. A few years ago, we had a delicious shoulder of lamb here. Now, that's probably something we can only dream about.

The ambiance and atmosphere weren't the same as in the Bullerei itself. In addition, an extremely bright light shone directly into my face the entire evening – truly unpleasant and not at all well-thought-out. The food was overall very tasty, especially the steak tartare, which was excellent. Unfortunately, I was served fish twice, even though I had explicitly stated that I don't eat fish and can't tolerate it. They asked for wine, but the overall impression still wasn't quite right. I would like to give a special mention to the waiter – he was very friendly and attentive, despite his mistakes. It's a shame, because a few years ago I had one of my best dinners ever at the Bullerei. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case this time.

The service was perfect again, unobtrusively attentive but never intrusive. We found the atmosphere unique, and the noise level was such that it was easy to have a good conversation. Mr. Mälzer was also there and signed my favorite cookbook according to my wishes. Many thanks to Mr. Mälzer and his wonderful team for this wonderful evening; we will definitely be back.

Simply love it. We've been here a few times now. Most recently, with seven people on a Saturday evening. Even though we had only reserved for five, it took an excellent espresso martini before we could get to our table. The service was really excellent, despite many single-person tables. There's always a little time for a few friendly conversations, which makes you feel very welcome and at home even though the place is packed. The staff are professional; you can tell that the team works well together and works together. The mustard egg was incredibly delicious. The tartar was unfortunately too cold in the middle, but so what...it warms up if you flatten it :) The T-bone steak was perfect, and the dessert—spaghetti ice cream with whipped cream UNDER the ice cream, as it should be—was perfect until midnight and paid around €115 per person for 3-4 courses, cocktails, wine, and dessert, which is absolutely perfect given the ambiance and service. We'll be back in December.

The lunch menu puts you in a good mood, with good quality and fair prices.

We had pre-booked and were given a table for two in a slightly private side room. In retrospect, the main room would have been too loud for us. The service was very good and attentive. We had the surprise menu. Everything was delicious and explained to us as we were served. Because the wait for the main course took longer than expected, we were even given a small glass of homemade eggnog to savour.

We've never enjoyed such a wonderful evening. Thanks to Polli (I hope that's spelled correctly xD) for the service, and thanks to the kitchen for such an excellent meal.

We had a birthday dinner and ordered a la carte. The portion was very big so we couldn't even eat up. The stake was perfectly prepared and roasted vegetables were also 10/10. The service was also very attentive and gave me two shots of Eierlikör in the end.

You can spend a pleasant evening there, but you'll also have to dig a little deeper into your wallet than is reasonable. The meat is of excellent quality, but it's cooked in a lot of butter - you can taste it. The same goes for the potato gratin: potatoes with butter - that's it! We were in Hamburg over the weekend. Of course, you have to go to the Bullerei at Mälzer. We were full of anticipation and reserved a table for two at 9 p.m. Right from the start, we were told several dishes were out. Unfortunately, I really wanted to try one of the dishes, but it was sold out. We had salads and pasta. The taste was very good and very nicely presented. But the portions were very small, especially the pasta. Four small ravioli for just under €30. We had to ask for bread separately. Overall, it was okay; we don't need to go there again.

A must-try when in Hamburg! All dishes are of the highest quality and created with love and imagination. Plus, the service is impeccable (a huge THANK YOU again to Daniel D. 🤩). It was an absolute highlight for the six of us! Even though Tim Mälzer was only there as a papier-mâché 😉

We stumbled upon the Bullerei by chance. We received a very warm and friendly welcome. We immediately felt at home. So we decided to stay and eat there. A very nice young man named Oskar served us. We were so impressed by his service and his colleague that we decided we'd definitely go there again. Although we drove two and a half hours, the visit was definitely worth it.

Highly recommended, the food is absolutely TOP, service is really attentive and quick, good wine selection, starter and main course cooked to perfection, highly recommended!

Sensational!! We're Tim's fans and traveled from Switzerland to Hamburg especially for the Bullerei to celebrate his birthday there. The service, ambiance, and food were simply amazing! We'll definitely be back... It's a shame Tim wasn't there 😢😂

The location is a 10/10; no other place in all of Hamburg has as much style and charm as the Bullerei. The service and friendliness of the waiters have unfortunately declined considerably. The waiters used to be really great, very attentive, and always with a dry northern German sense of humor. Unfortunately, the food took a long time. The steak was good as always, but the veal cutlet was not very good and had a lot of coriander on top (it wasn't on the menu). We'll still come back because we simply like the place, but the price/performance ratio isn't quite right anymore.

We made a reservation at the Bullerei and unfortunately ended up at the Dehli, at what we would call the "cat table," sloping down in the corner. That's how we were served, or not. This was definitely due to a lack of staff. Our waitress tried very hard, but there were simply far too many tables. If the "Bullerei" is overbooked, perhaps they should let them know... We were at the Fischerei and we ordered the surprise fish menu, which, to our surprise, included beef as the main course. Without any explanation or reason, it was good, but if you ordered fish, well, okay. The first two fish courses were delicious, dessert was a bit unspectacular, and we had to wait a long time for the spoon even though the dessert was already there. We weren't even asked about coffee. Summary Unfortunately disappointing compared to our first visit a few years ago, where everything was perfect, from start to finish.

This was our first time at the Bullerei and we were absolutely thrilled! The surprise menu was varied and left nothing to be desired – every course was a hit. The fries were simply the best we've ever eaten. We'd especially like to highlight the staff: super attentive, friendly, and always there to help. You simply feel welcome here. In summary: An all-around wonderful experience – we'll definitely be back.

We had lunch at the deli – I had the karaage fried chicken, my husband had the mackerel bowl. The chicken and the sauce were very good... I didn't like the sushi rice and kimchi as much. The mackerel bowl was good, but not a big deal, and unfortunately, it was a bit too small. The fries I ordered with it were my highlight... they were really, really good. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating.

What about "closes at 11 p.m." Today—September 13, 2025—there's NOTHING, it's a private event. Tim Mälzer doesn't think it's necessary to inform his guests on the website. Travel and overnight stays are for the record! 👏. So beware! It's best to call 📞 in advance!!

I've truly never eaten so well. The best quality meat and fish with such finely seasoned, sophisticated side dishes, everything soooo delicious. And that includes the "simple" bread. The service was personal, almost familial, everything was explained superbly, and the courses came at a good interval. A limoncello for €11 might seem expensive, but it's homemade and truly worth the price. The overall price-performance ratio is just right. For such a great meal, I'd rather eat twice less "cheap" and go back to the Bullerei.

Went to the Bullerwi today. Everything was top-notch. The food and service couldn't be surpassed. Thank you so much for the wonderful evening. Thank you so much for making us and our dog so welcome. When we're in Hamburg, since we're from Switzerland, we'll definitely be back.

What else can I say? The food is delicious and the drinks taste great, except for the mistake with the Küstennebel 25. I drink that beer at home, too, and the mescal is addictive. That's why I, too, was surprised when I got the bill. But it was worth every cent for one of the most fun evenings. Our service was polite, fast, and very good. Little mishaps are part of life, and you shouldn't overstate them. We were there during the fishing season, and we'd love to come back during the Bullerei season.

You have to have been there, even if the boss isn't there.

Everything was great, but the fans on the walls are unpleasant for people who can't stand drafts. Please indicate when booking that you would like a spot with less draft.

Great! A somewhat different restaurant experience, just the menu alone! We received a warm welcome, had a nice table, and a prompt server. The food was delicious, and the wine was fantastic too. Decorated with attention to detail, the Bullerei is truly worth a visit; you can definitely treat yourself...
