Restaurant & Café Muschelsucher in Norddorf auf Amrum

So stelle ich mir Inselessen vor! Superfreundliche Servicekräfte das Essen ist grandios zu einem guten und realistischen Preis! Wir hatten die Fischplatte für 2 das Essen hat vollkommen ausgereicht, und wir sind glücklich, hier wieder eingekehrt zu sein.

Wir waren anlässlich eines Tagesbesuches in Norddorf und landeten. Die Bedienung schien uns etwas genervt gewesen zu sein, aber nicht unfreundlich. Das Essen (Muscheln und Rotbarschfilet) waren in Ordnung, der warme Kartoffelsalat war ziemlich nüchtern. Beide Gerichte waren anscheinend mit der selben Senfsauce serviert worden. Unter dem Strich war es kein Reinfall, aber wir haben auch schon besser gegessen. Nächstes mal probieren wir ein anderes Restaurant in Norddorf.

Wir hatten Scholle, diese war auf der zweiten Seite leider verbrannt. Auch war die Scholle mit Kräutern verfeinert, die leider dem Geschmack einer Scholle sehr störten. Die menge an Bratkartoffeln war auch sehr übersichtlich.

Die blonde Kellnerin war sehr sympathisch 😇und hat trotz des vielen Trubels alles sehr gut gehandelt. Essen war spitze, ein sehr schöner Ort um guten Fisch zu essen 👍

Wir haben nur einen kleinen Drink zu uns genommen, daher keine Bewertung für das essen. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und zügig.

Wir sind spontan hier Essen gegangen. Die Begrüßung war schon so herzlich und freundlich, das wir direkt bleiben wollten. Die überaus nette Bedienung war erst ganz alleine und hatte den Laden dennoch mit einem Lächeln auf den Lippen im Griff. Wir haben das Rumpsteak und das Chicken Masala bestellt. Dazu die Hausgemachte Limonade. Absolut empfehlenswert! So lecker. Zum Abschluss gab es einen Friesengeist auf traditionelle Art serviert. Hier stimmt einfach alles. Auch wenn man etwas Wartezeit mitbringen sollte, es wird sich absolut lohnen. Danke das wir da sein und dies alles erleben durften.

Wer auf der Nordseeinsel frischen Fisch sucht, sollte den Muschelsucher lieber meiden. Viele der auf der Karte als "frischer Fisch" angebotenen Gerichte entpuppten sich de facto als Tiefkühlware, was an einem solchen Standort schlicht inakzeptabel ist. Selbst die Fischbrötchen sind für die aufgerufenen Preise eher beschämend: ein matschiges, lieblos wirkendes Brötchen, das weder von der Konsistenz noch vom Geschmack überzeugt. Die Pommes waren bei drei Versuchen jedes Mal mehlig und offensichtlich zu früh aus der Fritteuse genommen, also innen noch nicht richtig durch und ohne jede Knusprigkeit. Insgesamt wird hier ein Qualitätsanspruch suggeriert, den Küche und Produkte nicht im Ansatz einlösen. Für die Preise und die Lage auf einer Nordseeinsel darf man deutlich mehr Frische, Sorgfalt und handwerkliche Qualität erwarten.

Das Restaurant überzeugt mit einer heimeligen Atmosphäre und aufmerksamen Bedienungen. Die Portionen sind angemessen, das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis stimmig. Auch die Sauberkeit, insbesondere in den sanitären Anlagen, ist positiv hervorzuheben. Insgesamt ein rundum gelungener Besuch.

Das Abendessen war insgesamt ein sehr schönes Erlebnis. Das Lokal ist gemütlich eingerichtet mit sehr alten, aber wunderschönen Bildern. Die Bedienung war überaus freundlich und wir fühlten uns willkommen, was ich in anderen Restaurants auf der Insel vermisst habe. Erwarten Sie keine Haute Cuisine, aber das Essen war wirklich gut und dem Preis angemessen (wobei meins etwas zu salzig war). Ich kann dieses Restaurant wärmstens empfehlen.

We got a lovely window seat without a reservation. The service was attentive, quick, and very friendly. The plaice (FA) was absolutely perfectly cooked and delicious, and the price was reasonable. We'd gladly come back again.

"Die Muschelsucher" has become our favorite restaurant over the past seven years, visiting it several times a year and even choosing it for a family dinner. The dishes (plaice, redfish, cod, herring, pasta, steak, or beans with bacon-wrapped pork medallions) are consistently delicious; the atmosphere in the bright restaurant with its stylish ambiance appeals to us greatly, and above all, the friendly service is very attentive. It's also touching to see how lovingly children are treated.

Unfortunately, we didn't manage to try everything on the menu. But all the dishes we ate were divine and highly recommended. Whether it was the plaice, the fish ragout, the layered fish with savoy cabbage, the zander fillet on black noodles, the fantastic plum and red wine dessert, the red fruit compote, or the chocolate tart... Go there and try it for yourself, you won't regret it. Susanne is a very friendly waitress, and whether it's food or drinks, everything is served fresh and friendly. The ambiance is typically Frisian and captivates with its rustic furniture and attractive decor. Thumbs up for the Muschelsucher (mussel seeker)! Thanks for the lovely evenings, we'll be back. Our best restaurant. The service, chef, and staff are always friendly and polite. They always have a smile on their faces.

We were there for the first time. The fish sandwich with fresh meatballs wasn't that good. Unfortunately, it was a factory-made meatball (it wasn't described as such) that had just been heated up. The cocktail sauce wasn't really suitable either. The sandwich was tasteless and sticky. It looked nice, but unfortunately, the taste wasn't that great. The service was friendly, but there was a hint of aloofness, as I, as an adult, don't want to be called a mouse, sweetie, or anything like that. When serving, there was a smell as if the lady had drunk the night before and had a few too many drinks.

In 2024, I would have given it 5 stars. In 2025, unfortunately, only 3. The fish soup gave us diarrhea once, and vomiting once. It tasted good, but the after-effects were quite embarrassing. It definitely wasn't the main courses—we changed them after the first visit. However, even those didn't taste as good as in 2024. The salad was very green: lots of lettuce with two halved tomatoes, two thin slices of cucumber, and one piece of bell pepper. Having one server for all the guests is tough. The prices are also steep. It's no longer our favorite restaurant.

We just wanted a cup of coffee and a cake. The ambiance is quite nice. BUT: At first, we were ignored for quite a while at the entrance, where it says you have to wait to be seated. Both servers walked past us several times without greeting us. The restaurant and its terrace were only a third full, and there were significantly more free seats than occupied ones. After what felt like an eternity, we were finally informed that we could choose our own table. At this table, we were ignored again for ages before we finally received our menu. It took a long time again for someone to come and take our order. The coffee and cake arrived after about 15 minutes. The coffee was still lukewarm, but you had to hunt for the fruit on the overly sweet cake... We got up to pay after another half hour, as no one came to our table despite our repeated requests that we would like to pay. All in all, we had to spend more than 1.5 hours there. Once and never again! Furthermore, the owner seems to be incapable of taking criticism, as he reacts insulted (and sometimes even irrelevantly) to every negative review here. I'm already curious to see what he'll write about this one...😆.

We spontaneously stopped in for lunch today. The service was very friendly and communicative. The food (Frisian omelet and herring with onion compote) was freshly prepared and beautifully presented. The taste was excellent and the price was reasonable. 100% recommendation

Always worth a visit; we haven't been disappointed so far. Unfortunately, we had to wait quite a long time last time for both the drinks and the food. We've never experienced that before, but the restaurant was very busy that evening. A reservation is definitely recommended for the evening. There are also meat, pasta, and vegetarian options – so there's something for almost every taste. If you're looking for sweets and desserts: cakes, homemade waffles, ice cream – it's all there, ensuring you'll still have room in your stomach for a crab sandwich. Much of the food tastes very decent, sometimes even really good. However, those looking for a culinary sensation might be disappointed – it's solid, without the over-the-top gourmet experience. Service & Waiting Times The staff is friendly and courteous. However, if it's busy, you'll have to allow yourself some time. Ordering, waiting, and food delivery – it can all take a while, but it's also freshly prepared. Everyone knows: vacation also means "no rushing." Price & Value The prices are – as is almost expected on Amrum – a bit higher. For some dishes or portions, guests find them smaller than expected. However, when you consider that the ingredients are often fresh and many are regionally sourced, the price is put into perspective. For Families & Guests with Time Children's menu, play area, ice cream, terrace – the Muschelsucher is definitely family-friendly. If you want a relaxed meal, conversation with your children, or simply want to watch the sunset over the pedestrian zone, this is the place for you. Those who eat in a hurry or want to eat "quickly" might be frustrated. Conclusion: If you're on Amrum and want to be pampered—but without the gourmet pomp and circumstance of a celebrity chef spectacle—then the Muschelsucher is a top choice. It's like a good fish sandwich: no eye candy, but solid, delicious, with the scent of the sea and friendly people—and exactly what you need sometimes. ⭐⭐⭐☆ (3.5-4 stars, depending on how generous you are with wait times and price ratings)

We've been coming to Amrum for three years, and the Muschelsucher has now become our regular! Incredibly friendly service and super delicious food! Sure, the price increase for the products is noticeable here, but the food is fresh and homemade! This time, we also had to wait longer because another competent server is missing, but you just have to find one! Our children really enjoy coming here, and the play area and books are a great way to pass the time! Reservations are definitely recommended. We're looking forward to our next visit! Today we finished our meal here again. I had the rump steak wrapped in fig mustard, Gorgonzola, and bacon, and it was the best rump steak I've ever eaten! Plus, the lovely ambiance and incredibly friendly service...a perfect evening outside in the storm and rain! We'll miss you! Hopefully, see you soon!

The fish ragout is sensational!!!!

We ate here with our family and three (young) children. We all enjoyed the food immensely, and the service was fantastic. Children are welcome here. There are great kids' dishes alongside fantastic adult dishes. Very tasty.

In the middle of Norddorf, top food, friendly service, highly recommended

We made a reservation at 7:30 p.m. We got our food at 9 p.m. After repeatedly asking, we were given more salt. The fried potatoes and rump steak were lukewarm. But since we were hungry, we tried to at least fill ourselves up. All in all, we won't be visiting this restaurant again and won't recommend it to anyone. Owner's response: "Well, you have to write down everything, not just half. You reserved a table at 7:30 p.m. And as you probably noticed, the restaurant was FULL, and you weren't the only ones who had to wait in a FULL restaurant. But we don't need guests like you!" Not open to criticism!

Super delicious food. Everything freshly prepared. The service was very attentive and friendly. The plaice and rump steak were simply fantastic. We'll be back.👍

Unfortunately, despite the positive announcements, we were somewhat disappointed. We're aware of the price increases in restaurants: The €29 plaice didn't even come with a leaf of greens; the €9 standard kids' schnitzel with fries had €0.50 added each for ketchup and mayo, and the €26 ragu was a pure cream/frozen adventure. However, the very child-friendly service and the pleasant restaurant get five stars from us. Unfortunately, it wasn't good value for money for us :-(

Das Lokal ist ein bisschen klassisch-kitschig eingerichtet und die Karte ist etwas altbacken in Glassichtfolie eingepackt. Die Bedienung war zu uns zwar sehr nett, aber bis wir die Bestellung aufgeben konnten, hat es etwas länger gedauert. Die Küche bietet klassische Fischgerichte und für die Kleinen eine extra Kinderspeisekarte mit sechs verschiedenen Gerichten. Geschmacklich war alles in Ordnung, die Preise waren allerdings überzogen. Dazu kam, dass beim Zander für 30€ noch bei der Menge der Nudeln gespart wurde, da werden wohl die wenigsten von satt.

Restaurant Visit at the "Muschelsucher" in Norddorf – A Balanced Experience During a week-long stay in Norddorf, we visited the "Muschelsucher" restaurant twice for dinner. Reservation: We were advised to make reservations 1-2 days in advance – presumably to allow for advance planning regarding kitchen capacity and product availability. Even though the restaurant wasn't fully booked during our stay, the early reservation didn't pose a disadvantage for us. Arrival and Seating: Upon arrival, we were asked to wait briefly in the entrance area while our reservation was verified. The wait was about 3 to 5 minutes. We were then assigned a table in the rear of the restaurant, presumably with consideration for our child and his access to the play area. However, the proximity to the restrooms led to increased foot traffic, which somewhat compromised comfort. Ambience: The decor has a subtle maritime feel and exudes a simple, clean atmosphere. Overall, the ambiance is appealing, albeit without any particularly striking design elements. Service: The service was extremely friendly and courteous. Since the server was apparently alone on both evenings, there were occasional long waits – especially when ordering, serving drinks, and paying. Apart from that, the service was polite, attentive, and professional. Food: The dishes we ordered – a fish dish and a vegetarian dish – impressed with their freshness, flavor, and generous portions. The appetizers were served at a reasonable interval from the main course and were also of high quality. Particularly noteworthy is the separate children's menu with age-appropriate selections, which also ensured our child didn't miss out on culinary delights (wink). Value for Money: For two main courses, two appetizers, and one children's dish, the total came to just under €100. Given the island location (Amrum) and the quality offered, this price level seems reasonable. Guest profile: The restaurant overall gives a rather upscale impression. Families with several small children might – subjectively speaking – feel a bit out of place. Conclusion: Despite minor limitations in service and seating, the "Muschelsucher" impresses with friendly service, delicious food, and a sophisticated ambiance. A visit is highly recommended for couples and families with one child.

Very quiet location with plenty of outdoor seating. Friendly service. Drinks arrived quickly. We didn't have to wait long for the food. The meat (medium rare) was cooked to perfection, the fried potatoes with bacon bits were perfectly seared, and the onions were cooked to a buttery softness. A successful meal. Top

Yes, I was always greeted very pleasantly. The food was consistently impeccable and very tasty. The mussels were a particular delicacy, with a light spice and creamy sauce that made me enjoy licking them up with the baguette.

I've known this restaurant for at least 15 years. In all these years the quality has remained fantastic and extremely tasty in every area. I spend two weeks every year on Amrum and have eaten here many, many times. Everything is just perfect: the cozy atmosphere, the friendliness and of course the really delicious 😋 food. Sometimes you may wait a little longer for your food, but we are on vacation after all! But you are rewarded with freshly prepared food that doesn't come warmed up from the microwave. I have always been alone on Amrum over the past few years, and that includes eating. I have never found the wait unpleasant or exceptionally long.

I was there on July 1, 2025, and was looking forward to: mussels. I ordered mussels and got "lousy" mussels. The mussels themselves tasted good, though no different from frozen ones. What I absolutely disliked was the sauce: far too spicy and far too much. You really become a mussel hunter trying to find something in the "mud." I mentioned it, and they wanted to pass it on to the kitchen. Hopefully. I'll enjoy it at other local restaurants soon. Also: I had to wait 35 minutes for my drink.... My review of the ambiance: only mediocre (outside). Weeds are growing, especially on the windbreak wall. Apparently, no one is looking there. All the tables outside were marked "reserved," even though they weren't. This unsettles guests.

An eternity of waiting for a few portions of ice cream, cake, coffee, and hot chocolate. It can happen. After all, 20% of the seats were occupied. So, it's absolutely over capacity. But then forgetting half of your order is annoying.

This restaurant deserves the name “best restaurant in Amrum”. It combines high-quality cuisine with a family-friendly atmosphere, which is very rare! A separate play area for the little ones, a window to the kitchen, great furnishings and very friendly service. The fish platter for 2 is highly recommended. Price performance is absolutely right here

Baked fish was okay for the price (€6.50), but nothing more. It could also have been frozen... I wouldn't recommend the fried fish given the many other options on the island. Employees were friendly. I can't say anything about the offering as we had the fried fish to go.

We have been coming to Muschelsucher for many years and have always had great and warm service, great food at fair prices and are happy to come back again and again. You can feel very comfortable here.

I guess I was unlucky and ate there when it wasn't yellow mussels in white wine sauce 🫠 but in curry sauce 🤑 that was on the menu. Curry is great, mussels are great but the combination makes you cry. Everything else (fish, drinks, service with an original Frisian toast to the fishing spirit) 1a 🙂

A nice restaurant in the middle of Norddorf. Parking possible at the restaurant which is great. The food was very good, but not completely warm. The ambience was cute, really nice to sit. However, it actually took far too long. We were there for 2.5 hours and had only finished the starter and main course. This meant we skipped dessert. The service is generally good, but it needs to be a little faster.

Absolutely thrilled with the delicious food, I wrote the review right after the plate was empty. Always been here for 13 years. Never went in, partly put off by the price. But people. It's absolutely worth it! Good portions, absolutely fantastic quality. We'll be back! The friendly service tops it all off! Keep it up

We were so impressed on our first visit that we reserved a table for a second evening. Both fish and meat dishes were excellent, the only service (staff shortage like everywhere else) was super friendly despite her enormous workload, and the prices were appropriate for the quality of the food. Be sure to reserve a table!

It was delicious and at the end we felt invited to share a wonderful piece of cake after the generous meal. Our little one was busy in the play area with other children... it was nice with you.

...exactly the way I like it: ambience thrown together, service very nice, very attentive and cordial and not at a loss for an explanation if the coffee machine breaks down. On the second visit we ate very tasty plaice.

Experience in external sales After buying two portions of fries, chicken and fish nuggets and a fish roll for the island-appropriate but still steep price of €23, my friendly request for a little more garlic sauce (the dollop of sauce dispensed was on a bowl of fries - as soon as the sauce had completely run over it, you could see the bottom of the bowl like a flowery coffee) was met with the answer "you have to pay for that". After the employee, when asked in surprise, was almost ready to add some of the obviously very expensive sauce, the boss came in the background and instructed the young lady that "he had to pay for it, after all it was garlic sauce". We declared the fight to obtain more sauce over and dedicated ourselves to eating the food. To eat: Low chip shop level - edible - everything from the frozen section, fried. We waited a good 20 minutes for this. Conclusion: Even if you can charge high prices due to your island location and don't necessarily have to be friendly, you should always think about how you would like to be treated in your daily interactions. This behavior has nothing in common with gastronomic professionalism. P.S.: We can confirm the negative experiences described in the other reviews regarding friendliness and waiting times (exorbitant) from visits in recent years. This was our last experience with the clam hunter. With this in mind, 'All the best' - perhaps there is a last bit of insight available and you can take a moment to think about the relevant feedback.

I'm always open and honest... we ate fish soup. It was the worst fish soup we have ever eaten. A few pieces of fish with a few vegetables and hot water poured over them, this was also confirmed by a look into the kitchen. Service left something to be desired, no goodbyes. I can't imagine that the other dishes are as tasty as written in the reviews. The attempt to get a fish sandwich outside failed because of the waiting time of around 10 minutes, even though there were no other guests there. We will give this restaurant a wide berth.

The mussels in the white wine broth were amazing 😍 Ate mussels in the traditional way for the first time. Simply enjoyed it and the price was completely reasonable and the staff were very personable and friendly. Highly recommended. 🥰

We come to Amrum regularly. A must is a meal at the Shell Seeker. We were there at the beginning of September this year. Unfortunately only twice. The food is always super delicious. We recommend the mussel pan. A special thanks goes to Susanne. Super friendly, despite a lot of stress. We'll be back next year!

Incredibly nice staff, delicious fish sandwiches and delicious soft ice cream.

My daughter and I ate here for my birthday. My daughter had the children's rice pudding, which she found filling and delicious. I had the menu with rump steak (medium) and potatoes, which I really enjoyed. The waiting time for the food to arrive is absolutely legitimate and the waitress is a hit, absolutely friendly, accommodating and also takes the time to provide service. Gladly again!

We were a family of four for dinner in high season. The atmosphere is nice and we had a table in the restaurant. Unfortunately the Amrum herring stew was out, so we switched to the fish ragout. That was good and plentiful. The housewife-style matjes weren't really to our liking; a lot of cream, little taste. The dressings for the salads were delicious. The salad itself, however, was rather poor in composition. Overall, everything is priced in the middle to upper segment. Service ok, reservation essential. You can go there for a while and come back full.

Currently one of the restaurants with the best value for money in Norddorf. The prices are high like all other restaurants. However, the portions are so large that you will feel full. The dishes can be classified as home-style.

The food and location are good, although a bit overpriced, but the condescending manner that was shown to us and the table next door makes us not want to come back. It's a shame, last year was very good.
