Restaurant & Café Altstadt in Plau am See

We went there for dinner with eight people (we had a table reservation). The menu looked promising with some unusual dishes, but unfortunately, we weren't given much time to choose. We ordered and were then rudely told how to order properly. I ordered a Würzfleisch (spiced meat) and a Bauernfrühstück (farmer's breakfast). The Würzfleisch arrived promptly from the microwave, and the Bauernfrühstück was oversalted. My child's meal didn't include cucumber, lettuce, or tomato, and the croquettes tasted a bit odd. The Mecklenburger Rollebraten (roast pork) and the omelet were very good. We were rushed through our entire party (arriving, sitting down, ordering, eating, and paying) within an hour. We felt like we were intruding, as the staff at the next table were taking their time and even asked if we wanted anything else. It was rather disappointing. Furthermore, they don't accept card payments, which wasn't mentioned when we made the reservation. They did offer us an instant bank transfer, but we won't be going back anytime soon! I wouldn't recommend it.

We visited this restaurant last Saturday with friends and our children, and it was a wonderful visit all around! Upon arrival, we received a warm welcome and immediately felt welcome. Since we didn't have our children's play backpack with us, the staff was so attentive and immediately brought us something to paint and even a box of wooden blocks to keep the children occupied. That was truly thoughtful. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. The mooncake, in particular, is highly recommended; just as delicious as many others have already described in their reviews. If we're in the area again, we'll definitely be happy to come back. A place you can truly recommend with a clear conscience! Thank you

A very cozy restaurant with friendly service, and the traditional German cuisine (Sauerbraten & Steak au Four) was delicious. You'll need a bit of luck, though, because if everyone eats, everyone eats. 😉

When we were there, we ordered a waffle with strawberries and no cream, and ice cream instead. We discussed everything with the waitress and were given two plates of waffles (with cherries and cream instead of strawberries) and ice cream. We were a bit surprised, but were certain we had ordered and communicated correctly. At the end, the bill came, which was way too high and screamed rip-off. Instead of one waffle, we were charged for two and a half waffles, plus ice cream for €7, cherries, and cream. In the end, it came to €19.50 instead of the stated €7.50 on the menu. And all this just because we split it between two plates?

We were at Cafe Altstadt today. The ambiance looked very inviting, and the many good reviews had piqued our interest. The two of us ordered one waffle with strawberries and one ice cream without whipped cream (total, not per person; we also said we wanted to share). Since they only had soft serve, they wanted to bring it separately. We waited for our food and got two waffles with cherry whipped cream and one soft serve each. So, a completely wrong order!! Unfortunately, we were so good-natured and didn't complain, and the waffle was quite tasty, and the soft serve was just regular soft serve. But the real nerve was the bill. We were charged for two half waffles (€5.80 each) + two soft serve ice creams. We paid over €20 with a hot drink. The waitress probably thought it would be easy to rip off two tourists, and she succeeded. If I were you, I'd be very cautious about this place and would like to point you to the many other great cafés that also exist in Plau am See. Have a nice vacation!

Great food! But the older waitress is a bit strange! Some food comes quickly and other guests are forgotten! We had the impression that the service is based on mood! It's good that we were served well!😊

I was in Plau for a health cure, and whenever I'm there, I have to go at least once. This time, I even managed to go twice! It was delicious, as always, and I'll definitely be back in two years.

Well, I have to say, the service in the restaurant took some getting used to. It was 7 p.m. and we were told the shooting would be at 8 p.m. But we got the OK from the kitchen that there would be something left to eat, as it should be, and it was good (thanks to the chef and cook). The atmosphere was great, very nicely decorated. It might not be to everyone's taste, but I thought it was great. Unfortunately, the opening until 8 p.m. during the holiday season—well, that's something we should reconsider. Otherwise, everything was good.

A quick stop at the Altstadt Café again today! Wow—such delicious cakes, and everything's homemade. We'll be back again 😃😃😃

Rarely have I given such a well-deserved 5 stars. The vegetables with the zander were a dream, super fresh and delicious. And the zander was just as perfect.

An absolutely likeable owner who is passionate about bringing people together and conjuring up delicious culinary dishes on the table. We felt so comfortable and had a great evening. What a great restaurant with a humorous owner. We felt incredibly comfortable. The menu was manageable, but that's exactly how it should be. The food was delicious, the prices were completely reasonable and the service was great. I actually didn't want poppy seed cake because I was full from the main course, but when I saw it I just had to try it. He was a delight. A very clear recommendation 😀

We were 10 people and received a very warm welcome. Very nice boss with quick sayings and a very nice rustic atmosphere. Food was great, definitely try the poppy seed cake 😉, that's actually true. Super friendly service. It only takes a few minutes to pour beer, as it should. The food was absolutely delicious. It couldn't be better. The Mecklenburg rib roast and the pike-perch fillet were absolutely fantastic.

Sure, it's easy to get a table in a hurry during the off-season... but during the season, it's a bit more difficult, as not only was the food great, but the owner was also super friendly. I had the herring, which I highly recommend, and my friend had the sauerbraten 👌 The price/performance ratio is right.

During our visit to Plau am See we were looking for a cozy restaurant and found it in the Altstadt café and restaurant. This charming, family-run restaurant absolutely delighted us with its hospitality and delicious food. Although the restaurant was busy that day and a festive table was even prepared for a birthday, we received a very warm welcome and a nice table was promptly found for us and our two dogs. This pet-friendly atmosphere is truly remarkable! Our four-legged friends were even allowed to sit on the windowsill. The owner of the restaurant is incredibly friendly and accommodating. You can immediately feel that she carries out her work with passion and attaches great importance to the well-being of her guests. The menu is clear, but everything is freshly prepared and incredibly tasty. We were more than convinced by the quality and taste of the food. The portions were plentiful. The homemade cakes also looked incredibly delicious. During our stay we were able to watch the birthday table being prepared for the celebration and one delicious cake after another being brought to the table. The guests were obviously enthusiastic and the atmosphere was very warm. The next time we are in Plau am See, we will definitely stop here again. Everything is just right here: the friendly service, the delicious food, the cozy atmosphere and the great hospitality for people and dogs. An absolute highlight for anyone who appreciates good food and top service!

Wir wollten Kaffee und Kuchen an einem Sonntagnachmittag im Februar. Da in Plau in der Wintersaison nur wenige gastronomische Einrichtungen geöffnet haben, sind wir in das Café Altstadt gegangen. Nur zwei weitere Tische waren besetzt, insgesamt herrschte eine ruhige angenehme Atmosphäre. Leider gab es NUR Mohnkuchen und die Küche war nicht in der Lage, Waffeln (diese stehen als Mohnwaffeln auf der Karte) ohne Mohn herzustellen. Sehr schade, denn nicht jeder mag Mohn. Dazu gab es den schlechtesten Latte Macchiato, den ich seit Jahren getrunken habe. Eine hellbraune Flüssigkeit in einem kleinen Glas ohne zu erkennende Milch und auch noch zusammengefallener Schaum für stolze 4,50€ !!! Der Café- Besuch war ein Reinfall. Die Küche dieser Einrichtung sollte sich den Dienstleistungsgedanken der Gastronomie bewusst machen.

There aren't many restaurants left in Plau am See where you can eat so well. That's a real shame for a place on the lake

I went there yesterday afternoon and was impressed by the atmosphere from the first moment. The food and drinks were beyond complaint. I particularly liked the Silesian poppy seed cake. Simply impeccable. The prices are more than reasonable. I'd love to come back. It's a shame I can't give more stars. I would give 10 stars. Keep it up people! 👍 👍 👍 👍

The welcome was, as always, very warm. We eat there every now and then when we visit family. Good German home cooking. Freshly cooked! Super tasty! Highly recommended.

Hello dear friends of good taste and soft ice cream! Unfortunately I can't write about the food there because we had mostly already eaten before or the restaurant was closed. But I've been there a few times for soft serve ice cream. Perhaps the best soft ice cream in Plau! Why? On the one hand, because the boss (I assume) was very nice. Secondly, because the soft ice cream is in... Unlike others in the area it was relatively well chilled and didn't look too collapsed! Thirdly, it was really tasty, regardless of whether it was vanilla or vanilla/chocolate. Last but not least, the large portion was also relatively large compared to others! Therefore: When it comes to soft ice cream, my favorite!

Service was ok, nice and friendly. The map is manageable, but I don't think that's a bad thing because I assumed it was homemade. Unfortunately, the mushrooms for the omelet with mushrooms and schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce were canned. A small schnitzel with very, very few fries was quite overpriced for being really small.

Auf der Heimreise mal einen Kaffee. Also der warme Mohnkuchen ist vom Feinsten. Und das zur Waffel ein zweiter Teller gereicht wird zum Naschen zu zweit kennt man eher aus dem Ausland. Der Himbeerkuchen lecker. Alles eine runde Sache und prima Service.

We come to the Altstadt restaurant at least once every Plau holiday. It is very rustically furnished, you are always served politely and the food tastes great! 😊😊👍 Small note: The boss always makes sure to fill all the seats so that, if possible, no one has to be sent away. So you are often not “among yourself” at the table. It doesn't bother us at all - it often leads to nice conversations.

On March 30, 2024 we were in this rustically furnished restaurant again. The menu is clear, the dishes offered there include: Beef roulade, roast ribs, cod fillet and poppy seed cake were very tasty. The service is friendly and responds flexibly to menu requests. Price/performance is also right!

The food was tasty, but we can't recommend it. Despite there being fewer guests, almost all tables were covered with dirty dishes and the service didn't mind. The smell in the dining room wasn't very appetizing either.

If you want to eat like your mother eats, this is the place for you. We were holiday guests over New Year's Eve and also ate in the cafe. From the roulade to the omelet to the sauerbraten, everything is great! And I found the poppy seed cake excellent in its lightness. The boss was very warm to us.

Die Freundlichkeit der Bedienung war ne Katastrophe! Man fragt was und wird belehrt - sorry, aber Unfreundlichkeit hat einen Namen: den der Bedienung!!! Das Ambiente war super, allerdings vom Service abhängig! Bei den Waffeln sollte man dazuschreiben das dort Mohn drin ist!

Sehr hochpreisiges Café. Man kann vielleicht im Urlaub mal dort essen gehen. Wir waren mit einer Gruppe von 15 Personen da. Haben fast 500 (!) € bezahlt. 9,80 € für eine Tasse Gulaschsuppe und die belegten Brötchen waren auch nicht der Knaller.

Es war eine Freude, wie uns die Frau Wirtin, eine 8 Personen starke Gruppe, in mehreren Altersgruppen, betreut hat. Chapeau! Vielen Dank! Das Restaurant ist zu empfehlen. PPH.

Ein ganz uriges Restaurant,mit vielen alten Gegenständen, sehr schön anzusehen. Das Essen war sehr gut. Kann man guten Gewissen weiterempfehlen.

Das Essen ist sehr lecker, aber die Portionen (Mattjes und Gulaschsuppe) sind für die aufgerufenen Preise deutlich zu klein. Oder die Preise sind deutlich zu hoch für das Essen. Richtig übel stößt aber der "Service" auf. Unsere Bedienung, wahrscheinlich die Chefin, ist an Arroganz und Übellaunigkeit kaum zu überbieten. Sie glaubt alles und jeden kommentieren zu müssen, ob der Gast das will oder nicht. Das geht gar nicht. Wir waren zum ersten und auch zum letzten Mal Gast. Sicher gibt es in Plau am See aug Restaurants in denen man freundlich, ohne ruppige Kommentare, bedient wird.

Bei einem spontanen Besuch wurden wir freundlich und zuvorkommend begrüßt und es wurde noch Platz für uns vier Personen geschaffen. Das Essen war bei unterschiedlichen Bestellungen eine große Überraschung. Es schmeckte alles hervorragend. Selten haben wir so gut gegessen. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Das Bauernfrühstück war ok, das Ambiente ziemlich altbacken, die Preise waren ganz schön hoch, ist eben eine Ferienregion.

Während unseres Müritzurlaubs besuchten wir heute Plau am See. Bevor wir abends zurückfuhren, wollten wir noch etwas zu Abend essen. Beim Bummel durch die schöne Altstadt stießen wir eher zufällig auf diese gastliche Stätte. Erst erschien es uns vorrangig ein Café zu sein, aber schnell konnten wir uns davon überzeugen, dass hier auch ein hervorragendes Essen zubereitet und serviert wird! Die Speisekarte ist nur kurz, aber die angebotenen Speisen hatten eine hervorragende Qualität, sowohl vom Geschmack, als auch der Präsentation. Es ist gute Hausmannskost ohne viel Schnickschnack, aber gut und preiswert! Auch die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Dieses Restaurant kann man wirklich empfehlen!

Das Essen hat hervorragend geschmeckt. Der Service war so ganz freundlich, bis auf die ältere Dame. Da haben andere Kunden, für mich gefühlt, unpassende Sprüche abbekommen.

Das Essen war recht gut. Die Speisekartenpreise auf der Website stimmen leider gar nicht mehr. Das Zanderfilet kostet mittlerweile über 23€ und auch die anderen Gerichte sind 3-4€ teurer. Gerade wenn die Urlaubskasse nicht so üppig gefüllt ist, ist das schon sehr ärgerlich. Und auch hatten wir das Gefühl, dass es an Kinderfreundlichkeit etwas mangelte, was wir an ein paar unangebrachten Äußerungen des Servicepersonals merkten. Für Leute ohne Kinder sicherlich zu empfehlen, für Familien mit kleinen Kindern eher nicht. Schade…

Es hat uns dort wirklich sehr gut gefallen. Das Ambiente ist eigen und rustikal, aber auch sehr gemütlich. Die Bedienung war wirklich freundlich. Am wichtigsten war aber das Essen und das hat uns durch die Bank wirklich gut geschmeckt. Der Rippenbraten war wirklich super und hat mich unweigerlich an gute alte Hausmannskost erinnert, und das meine ich durchwegs als Kompliment. Auch der Brathering hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Für die kleinste wurde ohne Nachfrage direkt ein "Räuberteller" hingestellt. Auch beim Preis /Leistungsverhältnis kann man nicht meckern. Den angepriesenen Mohnkuchen hätten wir auch sehr gerne bestellt, aber der war leider aus. Beim nächsten Besuch in Plau am See, gehen wir dort auf jeden Fall wieder hin.

Wir waren heute sogar 2x in diesem wunderschönen Restaurant. Am Nachmittag zum Eis essen und am Abend zum Abendessen. Das Essen war super lecker und zum Nachtisch dann noch der absolut leckere Mohnkuchen. Preis- Leistung definitiv in Ordnung. Wir wurden sehr lieb und zuvorkommend behandelt und werden bestimmt wiederkommen.

Zur Mittagszeit eingekehrt, ein uriges Restaurant, gegessen wie bei Muttern. Das ,mit Hühnerragout gefüllte,Omlett und Brathering mit Bratkartoffeln und Salat. Beides sehr lecker 😋. Freundlicher Service und die Preise absolut moderat.Sehr zu empfehlen

Jedes Gericht ist hervorragend. Wer gute Zutaten verwendet, bringt gutes Essen auf den Tisch. Wer dann noch Kochen kann, bringt erstklassiges Essen auf den Tisch. Einer der besten Adressen in Plau. Update: Ostern 2023 - Das Wildgulasch war zum wiederholten Male ausgezeichnet!
