Very friendly service, delicious beer – but the bread with the "Obazta with house bread" was absolutely terrible – dry and hard, probably already sliced ​​the day before. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this restaurant.

Small but excellent. I had beer goulash with spaetzle. The meat was very tender and the sauce was exceptionally good. The service was very friendly. When you make a reservation, the appointment is immediately confirmed, and they threaten a €20 penalty per person for no-shows. This isn't sustainable and isn't exactly polite. Therefore, one star deducted. Now you can judge for yourselves.

Nice place with very friendly service. We only stopped in for a drink—a delicious beer and a refreshing white wine spritzer—so we can't rate the food. However, the dishes on the menu sounded very appealing, and who knows—we might try the food next time we visit 😉

We were there a few months ago and sat outside because it was very warm. We all wanted the beer goulash, but one of us preferred dumplings instead of spaetzle. The waitress didn't really understand, since the dumplings go with the mushroom ragout and not with the beer-flavored meat. We tried several times to explain that he wanted dumplings with the beer-flavored meat, not spaetzle, because he just doesn't like spaetzle that much. Then he said they wouldn't go with it. And we went on to explain that he would like dumplings with it, please. The very confusing answer was that that wasn't possible because the dumplings go with the mushroom ragout and would otherwise be cold. But dumplings are actually left to simmer in a separate pot from the start. We didn't understand the problem. So you just wait a little longer for the food to arrive, until the dumplings are warm, and then heat up the beer goulash. Our companion settled for mashed potatoes as a substitute. In the restaurant industry, however, you have to be flexible enough to accommodate customer requests, and the request to replace the spaetzle with dumplings wasn't an insurmountable challenge. Even though it was delicious, the price was quite high for the small portion you got. The faucet in the toilets wouldn't stop running after washing your hands and definitely needs to be repaired. We'd better look for something else next time we visit the city. Customer requests seem to be out of place here, or rather, they cause confusion.

Beautiful beer garden and rustic restaurant, were there for dinner, the ordered food was on the table after 6 minutes, the pulled roast pork was a very small portion, mashed potatoes were only slightly lukewarm, as were the Nuremberg sausages with sauerkraut cold, the dessert apple strudel with an indefinable yellow sauce and a couple of splashes of chocolate sauce without cream, also only lukewarm, everything that was served was ready-made food from Metro or Selgros, nothing home-cooked, you won't find any locals going out to eat here, it's a tourist pub with a lot of traffic and you get the feeling that the table is quickly cleared so that it can be used again later. Service was quick and friendly. Typical Franconian cuisine could not be better, it's a shame.

We ended up here as tourists, visiting the Imperial Castle, and I found it creepy. We arrived on a warm day with our dog, sat down on the terrace, and were handed a completely outdated menu. No greeting, no word. We then decided to go inside because the terrace was very crowded. We just wanted something to drink. The dog was thirsty, too. So I asked the waiter for a small bowl of water for him. "Nothing," was the reply. I'm rarely speechless, but this was one of those moments that left me speechless. I had just bought a coffee cup at the market. I unpacked it and used it to get water for him from the ladies' restroom. The two beers were fine. The atmosphere was uncomfortable and unkempt (cobwebs, dirty curtains, the tealight holder on the table, etc.). It's actually a place with a lot of potential that's not being utilized. I'm a restaurateur myself, and I can't understand why. The restroom itself was clean, but the surrounding area (floor, windows, etc.) was also dirty. A place that makes money off tourists. Nothing more. Not recommended.

The food was okay. However, I found the portion size of the pulled roast pork inappropriate compared to, say, the shoulder of pork or schnitzel. While not bad in terms of taste, it was unfortunately not filling as it was much too small. The Kaiserschmarrn also arrived suspiciously quickly and couldn't save the day. Our two servers were super friendly but unfortunately just as inattentive, so there was no service to speak of unless you wanted to constantly draw attention to yourself for every little thing. Using your cell phone or taking a break seemed more interesting – which doesn't bother me in itself, as long as the service is still good. I had previously submitted a question about the menu using the form on the website – and received no response there either. A bit disappointing. Addendum: A week after asking, I finally received a response and discovered that the restaurant gave me incorrect information. Due to my current pregnancy, I wanted to know if a dish contained alcohol. I was told no. Now I've learned that it apparently did contain alcohol. Unfortunately, I have to deduct another star for the incorrect information - that's really unacceptable.

As a local, I can't give this a good review. The shoulder of pork was from lunch and had been reheated the night before. The sauce was thick, and it wasn't a dark beer sauce. The meat was lukewarm and already a bit firm; the shoulder of pork should have fallen off the bone. Unfortunately, I don't recommend it.

We went exclusively to try the smoked beer (Schlenkerla Rauchbier). It was a surprising experience.

Anyone who just wants a drink on a Sunday (because the posted drinks menu offered interesting beers that weren't available elsewhere in Nuremberg) and dares to show up at the "Gast"haus about 45 minutes before closing will have climbed the hill and then the stairs for nothing. They'll be told that they've closed early and that they should find another place in the city center that's open for service. That's exactly the kind of service I'd like...

Excellent food, several beer options. The bathroom isn't as clean as other restaurants in the area. Excellent service. The menu has some translation issues into English... It's best to use your phone's translator if you don't speak German.

Happened upon this place on my way out of the Burg. Not overly crowded for lunch. Not too noisy either. Less expensive than many places I've eaten in other cities. Good food. Not too big like many mom and pop places. I'd eat here again.

The sausages are very good. Our waiter was very accommodating and friendly. The location is terrific, just below the castle.

Here, expectations of what an "asparagus salad" should look like were very different. What was served was 300g of whole white asparagus, garnished with onions and chives. There was no dressing, in my opinion. (I ate three-quarters of it because I was hungry and only mentioned when being served that I didn't think it was asparagus salad.) The waiter didn't comment further; I paid and left. (Shandy and salad €19.30.)

Second time here. Okay, the food could have been a bit warmer, but it was already quite humid. My goulash was unfortunately a bit dry, but still good. The Schäufala (a kind of pork belly) is always recommended here, along with a red beer on tap. Service was quick and friendly. Our teenager's special requests were also accommodated.

A very good restaurant in the centre of Nuremberg. I liked that it was quiet but I think it can get very busy. I felt cosy there, a really good place to get your buddies out for a drink or for food. We got the Nuremberg sausages with potato salad, and also a portion of Cheese Spätzle. Very good. Just a bit salt for my buds, as I don't add it anymore to food, but I would say a well balanced value price. And the staff was very friendly. Thank you!

Our family really enjoyed dining at Burgwächter during our stay in Nuremberg. They serve delicious traditional Franconian cuisine, and the outdoor seating added to the great atmosphere. The service was very courteous and welcoming. We ate at several restaurants during our week in Nuremberg and Munich, and I have to say—their sauerkraut was my favorite! The beef goulash was hearty and full of flavor, and the pork shoulder was cooked to perfection. A wonderful spot for a memorable and satisfying meal!

Stopped in for a quick drink and meal and went with the beef goulash, spatzle and hefeweizen. The food was delicious as was the beer, also was nosy and looking at other dishes and they looked great. I dont see how you could get a bad meal here.

A unique location right next to the castle, so reservations are recommended. We visited spontaneously and had to wait for a seat, which wasn't a problem for us since we were heading to the castle first.

We went to this restaurant to eat their famous cutlet. When they came to take the order they told us that the cutlets were finished (it was 8 pm on a Saturday night). We reluctantly ordered other things, as well as wine. After 10 minutes they came to tell us that the wine was finished too! We said goodbye and left. Terrible experience from all points of view.

I feel like I've been here 5-6 times and it always works. Great service and uncomplicated service from a young lady. The food is always great. We cheated once years ago, which I won't repeat in Nuremberg if Nuremberg then goes to the castle guard.

Excellent Bratwurst sausages and potato salad - I was so tempted to get more sausages when I was done! The staff are very friendly and it is the closest restaurant to the castle. Reasonable prices considering how the restaurant was in such a prime location and the food was delicious.

I can recommend this place. Small guest room with a nice view over parts of Nuremberg. Some places also outside. We sat inside and were greeted very friendly by a young woman. We were able to place our order quickly and the small child at the table was treated very kindly. This also got its food before us so it didn't have to wait. The “big meal” came shortly afterwards and was really tasty, the Schäufele was very tender and easy to eat, the sauerkraut was slightly sweet and also tasty. The vegetarian dish, dumplings with mushrooms, was a pleasant size and well seasoned. Everything was beautifully and locally prepared. Children are treated kindly and there are some children's meals. Little castle guards are probably excited about the location right next to the castle. It wasn't loud in the restaurant and it was easy to have a conversation. Absolutely ok in terms of price. Excellent service should be mentioned again at the end.

The best thing is the situation, impeccable place. The service a little forced. Very basic food, fries, sausages...and high prices, but this is normal in Germany, in general they should improve what they offer in restaurants and lower prices. Difficult but I have to say it.

Very cozy restaurant, pleasant service and luxurious food. I had probably the best goulash in my life, which was like a poem for my taste buds. If I had to eat only one meal for the rest of my life, this goulash would certainly be among my favorites that I would consider. My brother ordered a belly with cabbage and a dumpling. The dumpling was great, the cabbage had an exquisitely balanced taste between sweet and sour, and the belly was 300g, with a luxuriously baked skin and the meat was completely falling apart as it was tender. Just writing this makes me hungry again 😁

My visit wasn't planned. I was at the castle and happened to come across this restaurant. Since I hadn’t had breakfast, I decided to have lunch here. The food was amazing – the crispy skin and tender meat were perfectly cooked, making it a truly satisfying meal. The portion was huge though,that I couldn't finish it.

We all loved what we ordered. Kiddos ordered schnitzel junior platters and a side of cheese spätzel. Adults ordered bratwurst platters. Sauerkraut and kartoffelsalat were excellent. Danke schön.

A very nice atmosphere at the foot of the castle, very nice and comfortably furnished and a careful and attentive staff. We were lucky without a reservation and both the food and the draft beers were simply delicious. Third time there, and definitely not the last!

This place is awesome! we ducked in from the cold weather after visiting the nearby castle. Despite being right next to a major tourist attraction, the price are normal and its good value for the size of the potion (the roast pork shoulder is MASSIVE!) Genuine , friendly service, great food and a relaxing place to have lunch or dinner.

We are a Spanish couple, we came on a Sunday to visit the castle and based on the reviews on Google Maps we ended up at this wonderful restaurant. We wanted to try traditional German cuisine, and we totally got it right. We ordered the house dish (pork knuckle) which was for dipping and soaking kilos of bread. We also ordered the braised sausages with onion (not bad), and a pretzel with cheese, very good. I recommend that you come. The restaurant is full of local people, that's always a good sign.

There is no roast pork or Schäuferle on offer on Saturday evening (they are still on the menu). Not a word about it when entering the restaurant. Only when you want to order the food after the drinks. In the restaurant, cables, light bulbs and cobwebs hang from the ceiling and also the wall. The lady at the tap looks annoyed. The service was outstanding—friendly and attentive from start to finish. They even offered a beer tasting to help me choose the right one. The architecture is also worth noting, reflecting the traditional Nuremberg style, and there’s a terrace with a view of the castle and city. Though it was too windy and cold to sit outside, the indoor setting was cozy and inviting. Prices are fair, and the location is ideal if you’re visiting the castle and surrounding area. I would return to Nuremberg just to dine here again. 5/5!
