I feel like I've been here 5-6 times and it always works. Great service and uncomplicated service from a young lady. The food is always great. We cheated once years ago, which I won't repeat in Nuremberg if Nuremberg then goes to the castle guard.

Everything is truly excellent and the price is truly one of the lowest in Nuremberg, the sausages melt in your mouth, the turkey cutlet is super good and the beer is the best

Excellent Bratwurst sausages and potato salad - I was so tempted to get more sausages when I was done! The staff are very friendly and it is the closest restaurant to the castle. Reasonable prices considering how the restaurant was in such a prime location and the food was delicious.

I can recommend this place. Small guest room with a nice view over parts of Nuremberg. Some places also outside. We sat inside and were greeted very friendly by a young woman. We were able to place our order quickly and the small child at the table was treated very kindly. This also got its food before us so it didn't have to wait. The “big meal” came shortly afterwards and was really tasty, the Schäufele was very tender and easy to eat, the sauerkraut was slightly sweet and also tasty. The vegetarian dish, dumplings with mushrooms, was a pleasant size and well seasoned. Everything was beautifully and locally prepared. Children are treated kindly and there are some children's meals. Little castle guards are probably excited about the location right next to the castle. It wasn't loud in the restaurant and it was easy to have a conversation. Absolutely ok in terms of price. Excellent service should be mentioned again at the end.

The best thing is the situation, impeccable place. The service a little forced. Very basic food, fries, sausages...and high prices, but this is normal in Germany, in general they should improve what they offer in restaurants and lower prices. Difficult but I have to say it.

Enjoyed great service for 5 days in a row, experienced a wonderful and very tasty selection of different local dishes and all of this in a rustic, old-fashioned and very pleasant atmosphere.

Terribly delicious food, I was able to enjoy the kitchen's offerings and the extremely friendly and warm service for 5 evenings! If you weren't here, it's your own fault or something with the gall 😉

Very cozy restaurant, pleasant service and luxurious food. I had probably the best goulash in my life, which was like a poem for my taste buds. If I had to eat only one meal for the rest of my life, this goulash would certainly be among my favorites that I would consider. My brother ordered a belly with cabbage and a dumpling. The dumpling was great, the cabbage had an exquisitely balanced taste between sweet and sour, and the belly was 300g, with a luxuriously baked skin and the meat was completely falling apart as it was tender. Just writing this makes me hungry again 😁

My visit wasn't planned. I was at the castle and happened to come across this restaurant. Since I hadn’t had breakfast, I decided to have lunch here. The food was amazing – the crispy skin and tender meat were perfectly cooked, making it a truly satisfying meal. The portion was huge though,that I couldn't finish it.

Perhaps because I visited during a busy period, it seemed cold to Asians. The waiter was strict and sad towards us.

We ordered a dish that usually consists of filet of meat with beer sauce and potatoes, they brought mashed potatoes with shredded meat, nothing to see, and such a small quantity that our jaws dropped. Expensive and for tourists, since it is attached to the castle.

Traditional german restaurant. Very cozy with great atmosphere and excellent food. A bit small but this gives the charm and comfort of the place. It is located right below the castle Kaiserburg and it is a great spot to have a beer and delicious local food after sites seeing. I recommend

We all loved what we ordered. Kiddos ordered schnitzel junior platters and a side of cheese spätzel. Adults ordered bratwurst platters. Sauerkraut and kartoffelsalat were excellent. Danke schön.

Restaurant under Nuremberg Castle 🍴 The signature pork shoulder is braised very tender and grilled very crispy. The crispy skin is super fragrant, super oily and super delicious! ! ! Super delicious when eaten with sauerkraut🤤 I ordered another Nuremberg sausage. It was grilled and delicious. Extremely delicious 🤤 If you are here for the first time, try the pork shoulder. You won’t be disappointed.

A very nice atmosphere at the foot of the castle, very nice and comfortably furnished and a careful and attentive staff. We were lucky without a reservation and both the food and the draft beers were simply delicious. Third time there, and definitely not the last!

This place is awesome! we ducked in from the cold weather after visiting the nearby castle. Despite being right next to a major tourist attraction, the price are normal and its good value for the size of the potion (the roast pork shoulder is MASSIVE!) Genuine , friendly service, great food and a relaxing place to have lunch or dinner.

We are a Spanish couple, we came on a Sunday to visit the castle and based on the reviews on Google Maps we ended up at this wonderful restaurant. We wanted to try traditional German cuisine, and we totally got it right. We ordered the house dish (pork knuckle) which was for dipping and soaking kilos of bread. We also ordered the braised sausages with onion (not bad), and a pretzel with cheese, very good. I recommend that you come. The restaurant is full of local people, that's always a good sign.

There is no roast pork or Schäuferle on offer on Saturday evening (they are still on the menu). Not a word about it when entering the restaurant. Only when you want to order the food after the drinks. In the restaurant, cables, light bulbs and cobwebs hang from the ceiling and also the wall. The lady at the tap looks annoyed. Only the service at the table does a good job.

Traditional German Restaurant in Nuremberg This charming restaurant is perfectly located next to the famous Nuremberg Castle, adding to its enchanting atmosphere. I tried the local dish Schäufele, a special pork cut cooked for three hours, tender like butter, and paired it with a slightly smoky dark beer. It’s easily one of the best meals I’ve had in Germany. The service was outstanding—friendly and attentive from start to finish. They even offered a beer tasting to help me choose the right one. The architecture is also worth noting, reflecting the traditional Nuremberg style, and there’s a terrace with a view of the castle and city. Though it was too windy and cold to sit outside, the indoor setting was cozy and inviting. Prices are fair, and the location is ideal if you’re visiting the castle and surrounding area. I would return to Nuremberg just to dine here again. 5/5!

Directly on the castle wall in a rustic atmosphere. The service is very attentive and friendly despite the high number of visitors. The prices are reasonable and the food is very tasty. We'll be back 🙂.

Certainly a tourist place, but the bearded sausages with cabbage were good, the prices were still reasonable and the service was friendly and quick. The red beer is tasty.

The location was right in front of Nuremberg Castle, the food was delicious, they were friendly, the prices were good, and everything was good. The sausages were delicious, and it was better than the famous restaurant located a little below.

The location is great because you can take a break right there after the castle. The prices are fair. The food was a bit too salty (we all had the same dish and all agreed). The waitress doesn't care.

Anyone who has only ever known Nuremberg bratwursts from the supermarket will have their eyes opened here. Words can hardly describe what is conjured up here from simple sausages. And the sauerkraut with it is simply sensational! The food is only surpassed by the friendliness of the staff. If you are in Nuremberg, you have to go to the castle guard!

A huge plus is that you can fill up even with a small portion, the sausages are very juicy and tasty, the sour mashed potatoes are also very juicy and very tasty, and they gave all this free mustard in a bag And all this for 10 € and it was worth it, if I were to visit Nuremberg again I would come to this restaurant❤️‍🔥

So etwas ist mir noch in keinem Restaurant passiert. Ich habe mich nach langem Suchen für „Burgwächter“ entschieden und über die Homepage für 4 Personen (unser Gast, eine ältere Dame aus dem Gegend von der Bodensee, mein geistig behinderter Sohn, mein Partner und ich) einen Tisch für Sonntagabend reserviert. Ich habe per Email auch von der Chefin die Bestätigung bekommen. Unser Termin war um 18:30 Uhr, aber wir waren schon etwa um 17:45 Uhr da und fragten höflich, ob wir schon jetzt etwas zum Trinken bekommen könnten und danach Essen bestellen würden. Von der Kellnerin (leider ohne Namensschild) kam Antwort: „Ich habe keine Reservierung bekommen, aber Sie können egal wo sitzen, es gibt genug freie Plätze.“!!! 😵 Ihr war es auch egal, als ich meine Email-Antwort vorzeigen wollte. Na gut, wir haben unsere Getränke bestellt. Dann sagte sie uns, daß wir unser Essen nur bis zur 18:30 Uhr (welche ja unsere Reservierungszeit war) bestellen können, weil die Küche schließt. Obwohl auf der Homepage steht: Sonntags warme Küche bis 20 Uhr. Wir fühlten uns wie „im falschen Film“ und wollten schon weggehen, dann aber gedacht, daß wir evtl wo anders nichts mehr bekommen werden, und trotzdem geblieben. Wir bestellten Nürnberger Bratwurst Trilogie für 2 Personen, Schäufele und Käsespätzle. Wie von Zauberhand kam das alles in etwa 5(!) Minuten, daher kann man vermuten, daß es nicht frisch zubereitet war, sonst aufgewärmt. Mein Schäufele war etwas trocken und ein bisschen angebrannt, aber die Portion war groß genug und ich habe noch halbes davon mitgenommen. Anderen hat ihr Essen gepasst. Die Essenskarten sahen aus, ob wären sie 20 Jahre alt. Nach einem sehr schönen Tag in Nürnberg war dieses Restaurant leider eine Enttäuschung! Und ich habe mich vorher schon ein paar Wochen auf ein Schäufele gefreut… Ich habe danach per Email die Chefin um eine Erklärung gebeten, aber keine Antwort bekommen.

Very bad experience When I ordered, I said I wanted a Schäufele and was served Wiener Schnitzel. After confirming with the clerk, he told me categorically that this was Schäufele. I even showed him the correct picture of Schäufele, and he told me that it was another dish on the menu. It made me very confused When I checked out, I realized that this was not a Schäufele at all, and the Wiener Schnitzel was very ordinary and made me tired of eating it. I didn’t come all the way here just to eat some Wiener Schäufele. I don’t understand at all why the waiter doesn’t admit that they served the wrong meal, and also deceives the customer by saying that this is the correct name of the meal, and that it is because of language problems. In my opinion, it is just sophistry and fear of trouble. I clearly showed Schäufele's photo. The clerk was telling lies. Pay attention to the waiter wearing glasses. He may deceive you. In addition, the business hours are not at all 22 o'clock as written on Google Map. The waiters started to rush people around after 20 o'clock. Please put the correct information. The only advantage is that it is very close to the castle and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery, but I really do not recommend this restaurant. The clerk was very arrogant. It was the first time in Europe that I encountered such an exaggerated thing in a year.

The meat dishes are excellent, unfortunately this does not apply to the vegetarian dishes. The celery schnitzel and the baked brie were inedible, the salad that came with it had numerous brown spots and was generally not fresh. The dressing isn't good either. Unfortunately for vegetarians we only recommend the fries, which are really very tasty. The service staff is friendly and on the ball, but didn't want to know why all of the vegetarian dishes had been returned. What I would like to give credit to the service is that we still got our reserved table, even though we were 30 minutes late due to traffic. When we called again about this, we were told that it wasn't a problem and that the table would still be reserved for us.

Ristorante carino sotto il castello. Mangiato le tipiche salsicce di Norimerga e Schäufele in Dunkelbier-Sauce, il tutto accompagnato da birra locale. Peccato che al tavolo vicino al nostro c'era un signore che ci ha rovinato la cena fumando per quasi un'ora un sigaro.

Unfortunately, that was a bad recommendation from friends...we were there during the week. I had made a reservation, but I could have saved the reservation since there wasn't really much going on. The selection of different dishes is really manageable and small, unfortunately my food was very salty and that of the others was mediocre. As a little consolation for the over-salted food, we were given a short meal on the house, which was again a nice gesture. The location of the restaurant is really nice, you have a nice elevated view over Nuremberg, the staff was also friendly and quick to serve and clear away, but since the food wasn't convincing, we probably won't come back. You can definitely recommend it for a beer on the terrace, but nothing more.

The waitress got me 2 out of 3 things wrong, I was also rather disappointed with the taste, but the prices are okay. It's also quite nice to sit there.

Just the most rude reception at any restaurant we have had . We were running late because the town traffic was terrible and our taxi was not able to move . We rang and said we would be late . On arrival were told the booking was cancelled. Not because they were busy just because we were late . I have to say on arrival the cancellation was an absolute relief. The restaurant is damp and smells of old oil . Please do yourself a favour and avoid this .

Food looked awful but we didn’t even get to eat as they gave our reservation away with a snarky smile as we were a few minutes late even though there were spare tables. A dusty, damp and sweaty feel to the restaurant knocked home the fact this is most likely a tourist trap. I say most likely because we didn’t even get seated! I booked the restaurant (more of a pub) for 8pm but due to the traffic from the convention in town we were 13 mins late. Despite me phoning while in the taxi at 7.55 saying we were going to be 15 mins, an absolute horrible and sassy waiter cancelled our booking in front of us since we were a couple minutes late. After seeing multiple empty table, he refused to even serve us and then essentially told us he didn’t want us there because we were late. We went down the road and a lovely Italian restaurant called Muro, who accepted us despite being full - that’s a true restaurant

What an apalling rude restaurant. We travelled from the train station, got stuck in traffic, phoned them to say we are running 10 minutes late. Got there 5 minutes after that and the smirking “staff” member said they had cancelled our booking while there were empty tables. We actually thought “staff” was joking…oh dear but no …they actually wouldn’t serve us! Classic. Well smirking staff if I can put just one set of people off going to your drab tourist trap restaurant it will be worthit, saving them the cost of a cab and effort visiting. Save your hard earned money and go somewhere else. Nuremberg is absolutely lovely and everything else, everybody and other restaurants have been brilliant. This toxic place is an exception doesn’t deserve your money. Move on.

Great place, great food and great beer)

The atmosphere is good, there are flowers falling while eating, and the service is also very good. There is a QR code on the menu cover. You can read the English menu. The beer is delicious and the pork knuckle is delicious, but you will definitely get tired of eating it alone. It is a good place The resting place is right at the entrance of the castle.

I can't comment on the food yet, but the conditions, the atmosphere and especially the friendly and customer-oriented service deserve 5 stars. Should not be missing on a beer tour dedicated to the castle.

Just had a drink here after climbing to the castle. Service was great.

Big loser. The children ordered a children's steak with fries. The fries smelled of burnt oil, the schnitzel had a strong taste of rancid oil, the meat smelled, it was strongly stale... I had a wurst with sauerkraut, quite ok, I just had to change the bread for the old, hard and moldy one they brought me . The beer goulash was ok. Overall thumbs down.

Very nice German food. They do not offer 200 dishes, but about 20. What they offer has class and looks great. I had mushrooms with Semmelknödel. Great! The waiters are nice and professional. A lot of beers to try from. Prices are moderate. I was surprised. This place is the heart of Nürnberg. Nice walk from there up the castle. Enjoy the view across okd town.
