Overall, the knight's meal was a nice experience, but leaves room for improvement in some aspects. The medieval atmosphere was successful and the concept of all dishes being served to the entire group at the same time worked well. Each person was able to take something from the food, which was served separately on a plate. However, we found the limited "cutlery" options to be inconvenient: each person only had a cutting board and a knife, and this continued throughout the evening. Since you had to eat food with your hands, frequent hand washing was unavoidable. This was rather complicated, especially with dishes like lamb's lettuce or coleslaw. A particularly disturbing point was the dessert. The apple fritters were served on a shared plate and everyone had to take them with their knife/hands and eat them on their own wooden board. Since there was already meat on the board or the previously served dishes had been eaten and meat juice had accumulated, this was neither appetizing nor pleasant. Also a bit disturbing was the group of men behind us, who were very loud throughout the evening. Unfortunately, this put a damper on the mood at our table, although it is clear that the restaurant cannot do anything about it. The atmosphere and communal experience were quite nice. Overall, it was an “okay” experience, which might be more suitable for fans of rustic events.

This old-world restaurant oozes with charm. We sat upstairs in the Alte Küch'n part. Our waiter, and all the waitstaff, were very friendly. The service was excellent. The food came quickly despite the dining room being completely full. Portions and prices were reasonable. They accommodated a potato dumpling substitution for each of us. We chose potato pancakes and potato salad. We both had a marinated beef dish that was good, but the apple strudel was the star of the show! Next time, I would split the entrée instead of the strudel! 😂

Quaint restaurant with very good food. I had a beef roulade with dumpling and an extra small mixed salad. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Reservation recommended. Gladly again !

A place with a lot of people, the treatment towards us was also great. We ate very well.

Food was very good. Unfortunately the waitresses are a bit off track. We went to the company Christmas dinner and when we asked the waitress twice about the reservation, we were told twice that there was no reservation for our company. That wasn't true, the colleagues were already sitting in their reserved seats that couldn't be seen from the entrance and us latecomers had to wait 20 minutes in front of the restaurant until colleagues went looking.

The place is so crowded that there is no place to eat. The potato dumplings are tasty. The meat dishes only come with vegetables at an additional charge.. Oh well....

Excellent food & good wine in a medieval looking basement!

Food is really good and service is very nice and friendly. They let us sit and specified that we needed to leave in 45 minutes but the service was speedy so perfect in the end. Reconmended for nice meal.

The food is great, the music is medieval and very animated, the atmosphere is very rustic and authentic. My colleagues and I really enjoyed it here. We want to come back and would recommend it to everyone!

The restaurant is located near the Nuremberg Imperial Castle. There is the option to eat from a menu (on the ground floor) or to take part in a special meal, such as a knight's meal (in the basement). I was there as part of a Christmas party and can therefore only judge the food a la carte. The service was always friendly despite the restaurant being fully booked. Our seats at the table were very narrow (even though two people in our group didn't come) and the chairs were very close together. The menu mainly features regional dishes and potato pancakes (backers) in various variations. As a vegetarian, I was actually able to choose from about 2 vegetarian main courses (backers or couscous). I paid just under €18 for the portion of backers with porcini mushrooms. The taste of the food was okay, but I wouldn't come back specifically for that.

Everything was TOP... the food was great but the best thing was the incredibly friendly and relaxed staff and the ambience. Very happy again.

I was thrilled and when you have so much fun you unfortunately don't take any pictures but I can only say that it was simply an experience to come here and above all it was my first knight's dinner and company Christmas party! Great entertainment from the people with bard singing, we all had fun and you can tell that it was created with passion and dedication - it's just great!

We were guests at Ritter Essen with a group of around 60 people. Despite the full adjoining rooms, the service was fantastically attentive, friendly and relaxed. The meal was sumptuous and the cellar beer is to die for.

The onion roast is incredible. The meat was prepared like a steak, onion was cut into the juice and fried onions were added over the meat. I can only recommend it.

We were in the Alte Küchn with a group of 14 people. The furnishings/decoration are special, but that's a matter of taste. I found it very quaint. We looked at the basement below, which is of course great and you really feel like you've been transported back in time. The food was okay. Nothing more, but nothing less either. We ordered across the menu. The kitchen is partly integrated into the guest room. It's nice to be able to watch. Stupid when you sit in front of it. Service constantly goes between the narrow tables, waste heat etc. Our waitress Alissa was professional and nice, but by no means hospitable. She was good at upselling (a side salad here, sauerkraut there, etc.). That makes the boss happy. However, if you didn't order anything with it, you would casually comment on it with "well, then not" and roll your eyes. The cellar beer is super tasty. Selling 3 liter columns is more suitable for Mallorca or a bowling alley. In my opinion this should be saved. At the end I told the waitress that I would like to take another bottle of the schnapps on offer. Here she was very friendly again and I was allowed to taste it for free. But then there was the issue of upselling again. Overall, you can tell that the store will be full every evening due to its location. There is no need to convince the guest to come back. I wouldn't have to go there again, but I wouldn't talk anyone out of it either. Certainly a great experience for foreign tourists.

Great atmosphere in the Ritterkeller, quite rustic. Unfortunately the food was just okay. Rehschäufele was a bit dry. Apparently the Franconian Schäufele would have been the better choice. Service was nice, but unfortunately understaffed.

This place doesn't need to be advertised much anymore; On a Monday evening outside the peak season, guests almost begged for a table. We only got a seat at the bar without a reservation, which was fine for us. Great ambience, good food, not exactly cheap, but that's clear, in the middle of Nuremberg's old town. Despite the stress, the friendly and attentive waiter from Verona still had time for a quick chat and drew our attention to the beautiful restaurant in the vaulted cellar. Gladly again! (then WITH reservation)

We were recommended to try the knight's meal and were not disappointed. Delicious welcome mead that could have been more. We made the mistake of eating too much of the bread with the sauce, and then there were 5-6 more courses. But we managed it and we were extremely full after eating. The taste was really good, but I was still missing that certain something for the 5 star. Great ambience with entertainment. You don't find it every day. Nice experience.

Great place to drink and enjoy the atmosphere, but I wouldn't go back for the food alone. For allergy sufferers, vegetarians and those who don't eat pork, there is an alternative if you have reported it in advance. Would definitely go again with my group.

Every time I come to Nuremberg it is a fixed stop because it is a very characteristic place in the basement of the old city, near the castle. A must for one of the best keller-biers in the city. Fabulous schäufele and schweinebraten and shame about the slightly grumpy waiter.

We sat in the "old kitchen", i.e. upstairs. The service was very attentive, the atmosphere was “rustic” and the food (Franconian sauerbraten) was plentiful, tasty and therefore highly recommended.

Very nicely furnished inn, with great service and a varied menu from international dishes to Franconian Schäuferle. It tasted very good! Prices okay.

We were there for dinner at the beginning of September, but had reserved beforehand. On the one hand, a very nice atmosphere and on the other hand, we enjoyed the food. Although we waited a few times for the follow-up drink, the lady in service was alone and really did her best. We would come back if we were in Nuremberg again.

It's not that special taste. Very ordinary. However, the service of the employees is very good. I wonder how many years it has been since I came here. It was the worst. The food tasted bad and the employees were cheap. I felt bad. Has the owner changed? I won't use it next time.

This is described quite simply: historical vaulted cellar with a great atmosphere. The service was completely friendly and accommodating, dressed in dirndl or lederhosen. The cuisine is very quick, super tasty and very high quality, in keeping with the overall historical impression. The prices are not too high and are certainly justified. The whole thing is not an insider tip. Just going and eating is not possible. Reservations should be made weeks in advance.... Thanks for the great evening.

We were a larger group and were allowed to sit at the bottom. There was an irresistibly perverse air in the room. There's already mold growing on the wall at the back left, I don't want to know what it looks like behind the wood paneling. The toilets are at the top of the ground floor, i.e. h. everyone inevitably uses the railings with their "knight hands". I can only advise against this restaurant.

Il locale è su due piani e sono due ristoranti differenti ma con lo stesso nome una vecchia cucina e una alta cucina. Questo solo per far capire la ns esperienza. Abbiamo prenotato due settimane prima e quando siamo arrivati nessuno aveva la ns prenotazione. Siamo stati rimbalzati e non considerati per 30 minuti , fino a quando è arrivato un altro gruppo nella stessa condizione , e ci hanno messo in un tavolo attaccato alla scale e attaccato ad un altro tavolo di persone. Io locale è molto scenografico e i piatti tipici molto buoni. Il resto è la solita inaccoglienza tedesca. Se volete dargli fastidio andate a mangiare.

The food is good and the service is a bit chaotic but committed. The location is beautiful and the cellar is an eye-catcher. However, I find it cheeky that they sell the 0.4 beer for the price of a 0.5 beer. This puts the whole restaurant in a bad light.

Ambience and service top. Schäufele was tough and firm. Sauce was watery, chanterelles with grilled vegetables were ok, although the vegetables were more steamed than grilled. The four people at the next table didn't seem to enjoy it either. We know that better.

Ordered Fanta and got bitter lemon 2. 3 tables arrived after us and received their food much earlier 3. the table next to us ordered at the same time and our food came when the others were finished 4. a simple sauce was messed up! Not well seasoned or anything 5. Schäufele suckling pig was not thoroughly cooked and with raw meat that was not even remotely edible. 6. an entire order was completely forgotten and while 5 were eating, one sat next to them and was allowed to enjoy watching 7. after the 6th meal came where 4 out of 6 were finished, the meat wasn't even close to being at the right cooking level instead of medium, it arrived at us very very bloody. Tried to do well but 8. An apple strudel was offered and a mousse au chocolat. At first it was said apple strudel but then changed again to the chocolate. 9. we got the apple strudel which was very very hot which meant you burned your face! 10. the owner's insight that they had screwed up was almost unintentional and it was said that they couldn't even accommodate us at that price because the exchange of point 5 and the attempted reparation were sufficient enough! And you couldn't do anything more. 11. The waiter was very relaxed with the wine and even gave a few customers a nightcap to say goodbye. Maybe less alcohol at work then you would get more done and maybe even do it right! Conclusion A visit to Nuremberg's old town is only worth it if you probably only visit the restaurant when there is nothing going on there so that you don't waste it! And the waiter sober. Thanks for the unrewarding experience of German cuisine

We took advantage of the beautiful afternoon to go to the old town festival in Nbg. We stopped at “Alte Küchen”. I have never experienced a waitress finishing work before we had eaten, collecting everything, but promising that we would still get the food. Then two waiters ran around wildly and disoriented. When I saw that it was our food I raised my hand. Looking skeptical, he gave it to us anyway. I had a portion of radish that had no salt on it. I asked the waiter for salt. Unfortunately I had to eat my radish raw. Without salt. The sauerkraut in our second meal was only slightly lukewarm. It's a shame, we had hoped for more

Food was eaten incorrectly, one of our meals came 30 minutes later than all the others because it was forgotten. This rump steak was completely raw. Our piglet Schäufle was also raw, so we got a replacement. In total we waited 1 1/2 hours for our food. At the end you just felt uncomfortable and unfortunately you hardly gained any insight. Unfortunately no longer worth a visit!

Speechless! We've never been treated so disrespectfully before, in a restaurant that actually seemed promising at first glance. After we politely asked for a table for two and the waitress responded to this request in a snotty and cheeky manner saying that she had said that the table was free, we sat down. Since today is Saturday, we just wanted to be sure and it's appropriate to do so before sitting down. We were presented with the card and less than 5 minutes later a group of 4 people arrived who seemed to be more interested in entertaining than us. We were then made to get up and sit on a folding table next to it, with only one chair being brought to us. We then got up and left because we won't let ourselves be treated like dirt. The tone of the service was harsh and unpleasant. If you could give 0 stars, that would be a fair rating.

Non-German-speaking guests, beware! Four of us ordered one pancake, one starter sausage platter, and one pork shoulder. The waitress misunderstood our order and brought us four portions of sausages instead of one (the menu stated the price per portion, but a minimum order of two portions, which was very misleading), so we were forced to buy three extra portions of sausages. Then she served us four portions of pork shoulder, even though we only ordered one. The waitress insisted that each of us had ordered a portion, rather than us sharing one among the four of us. When we ordered, we clearly stated that we wanted one portion to share among the four of us, not one portion per person. The waitress either had poor English skills, lacked common sense, or was deliberately trying to sell us more food by misunderstanding our order. If we hadn't argued, we would have been forced to pay for three extra main courses, resulting in wasted food. It was an extremely unpleasant experience. What's good，the manager is very understanding, after we complained he immediately refund us the tip and whis us for a good trip.

A really great restaurant with a great ambience, friendly staff and the food is amazing! There is a two-star deduction for service because when the waiter finished work and brought the interim bill, we as a group were allowed to calculate the money we each had to pay ourselves. When we worked it out, he just dutifully conceded. 👎 The next thing came straight after when we were told we had to leave straight away as our seats were reserved for other guests. But we weren't told in the reservation confirmation or directly in the restaurant that our places were limited in time, something like that just doesn't work. The whole situation was saved by asking us to go into the basement of the bar and waiting for us there with other seats and a compensatory liqueur. All in all, a great day/evening in a highly recommended restaurant! The service was also top, except for two things that hopefully won't be repeated.
