Pleasant service, delicious pancakes with Nuremberg sausages, delicious pork shoulder

We had made a reservation for a medieval banquet.

We had an excellent meal here. The Franconian appetizer platter for two, along with the Obazda cheese spread and the Schäufele (pork shoulder), were fantastic! We'd love to come back again if we're ever in Nuremberg again.

Found it on a whim and found it to be good. The pork shoulder was very good, the ham hock wasn't perfect in terms of crust, but the criticism was received very well. Service was quick and very friendly. Price-performance ratio was also good. Would gladly come again.

Nice atmosphere in this pub/restaurant. I really enjoyed the beef in wine sauce with some potato dumpling and cranberry sauce. The staff is very friendly (speaks perfectly English as well), wears traditional Bavarian cloths and the young guy who work here is cute as hell 🤭l

Hmm... I went to eat sheuipele. They asked me to hurry up because the kitchen was closing, so I quickly picked out my food and ordered. But it came out in about 15 minutes. It seemed like they just reheated the food. The sausages and potato pancakes were lukewarm and not very good. The sheuipele was a bit salty and lukewarm. The potato dumplings were completely chewy and tasteless. It was a waste of money. ㅠ The staff wasn't very friendly either. I came here because they said the place next door was fully booked, but I was disappointed and just left.

The place itself is very cool, but the service left us guessing. I just hope our waiter was new and genuinely didn't know what he was doing. The menus we got were in German, so we just asked for potato pancakes and potato salad. Since they didn’t serve pancakes, we settled on potato salad. It was late, and we didn’t want a full meal. We also ordered some beers and coffee with apple strudel. After a little while, the waiter brought the beers and coffees at the same time and told us they were out of strudel, then left. Well, we wouldn’t have ordered coffee if we had known they didn’t have strudel—let alone having the coffees served at the same time as the beer. We also never got our potato salad. The waiter never came back to ask if everything was okay, and we didn’t feel like looking for him. We drank our beer and coffee and asked for the check. When we looked at it, we saw they had charged us for the potato salad, so I told the waiter he hadn’t served it. He looked confused, like, “What do you mean I didn’t serve it?” Then he disappeared and came back with an adjusted check and a smile on his face—no apology, nothing. At that point we paid, wished him well, and left. On our trip to Germany, we went to a lot of restaurants and always noticed how impeccable the service was. This place, however, was on a totally different level.

We went to the knights feast. Our family had an incredible time. It was a three hour feast/show.

I took part in a corporate event held in the restaurant’s wine cellar — the theme was a “medieval banquet.” The concept sounded fun until we realized forks were banned, and even the salad had to be eaten with a knife. Let’s just say the authenticity was impressive, if not exactly convenient. The food was fine, though nothing to write home about, and the service wasn’t exactly warm. A jester in full period costume sang cheerful Franconian tunes, adding to the atmosphere. For anyone who’s never been to Nuremberg, it could be quite an experience — but honestly not more than once!

The atmosphere, interior, and food were all great. Friendly staff. Delicious food. The onion soup was really good, and the other meats and potato pancakes were also delicious. The beer they recommended was refreshing. I went before dinner time, but luckily I was able to sit down right away. When I left, the place was packed!

We had the medieval banquet. It was fun and well-presented. A true themed dining experience. We didn't like the beer. Neither the Kellerbier nor the Pilsner. A shame. The service was very friendly and pleasant. Overall, quite expensive.

One authentic gem in the centre of Nuremberg. We ordered the mixed plate for 4 people with our friends plus 2 other main dishes and we absolutely recommend it. The food was amazingly tasty and very generous in quantity. Our waitress also was very good in the service!

Traditional Franconian restaurant. High prices, but also very good quality. The only significant drawback I can mention is the lack of freedom of movement at the table due to the tables being set too close together. A table reserved for 14 people only comfortably seats 10.

After a stopover in Nuremberg, we were craving traditional German cuisine, so we went to this restaurant. We were very pleasantly surprised. Ambiance: The restaurant is beautifully designed – a blend of rustic style and a very clean, well-maintained feel. The open kitchen creates a pleasant atmosphere. One small point to note: the chairs are relatively straight and high, which took some getting used to at first. Overall, though, it's a very comfortable setting. Service: The service was exceptionally friendly. All the staff seemed organized, attentive, and pleasant. The entire process was seamless, and the food arrived at our table very quickly. Food: There were four of us, and we ordered several dishes. I personally had the Franconian Schäufele (pork shoulder). The dish was delicious, exactly what I was looking for and what had been recommended to me. For just under €20, it was absolutely fantastic. The other dishes also received positive reviews. One peppercorn sauce had a few too many peppercorns, which is perfectly normal – you just have to like pepper. I tried it and thought it was good. The veal Wiener Schnitzel was also very tasty, although the breading was a bit soft. I would have preferred a bit more texture. Overall, though, it was still a good dish. Value for money: Absolutely fair for the quality, portion size, and quick service. The Schäufele (pork shoulder) in particular is a real highlight for the price. Conclusion: A very pleasant restaurant with delicious food, friendly service, and a lovely atmosphere. Apart from two minor issues (very straight chairs and a slightly soft breading on the schnitzel), everything was truly excellent. Highly recommended – we would definitely come back.

We were absolutely thrilled! The service was top-notch; they went above and beyond to accommodate our requests. The atmosphere was amazing. We were treated to everything we could have imagined for a medieval feast. Thank you! And yes, around 50 euros per person for the meal might sound like a lot at first. But the quantity and quality were superb. We were all more than satisfied, and every course was delicious. Add to that the singing and storytelling – it really couldn't have been better. Bright, rustic restaurant. We were upstairs and had the sauerbraten and beef roulade. The food was okay—solid and appropriate for the price. The sauces were generally a bit too thin, but the dumpling was very good. The roulade meat was a little dry. The service was very friendly and efficient. It suited us.

Amazing old castle dungeon feel. Servers are lively and full of fun. The German food is not for me! The potato comes like a stress ball, spongy and bouncy. Weird.

It was quite delicious both argentina meat and soups (pumpkin and french style onion) Keller bier is strictly recommended for starter and toilets are spotless, incredibly clean. After castle marathon it was a gift from heaven. You need to make reservations if possible

We were there today for a knight's banquet. A wonderful evening with excellent entertainment and delicious food. The service was first-class. One of Nuremberg's authentic, old-fashioned restaurants. At first we had to wait in line, but after half an hour—around 8:00 p.m.—we were lucky enough to get a small table for two. The waiters were rushing around frantically, serving many hungry customers, but they were still friendly and attentive. The food is expensive and delicious. It's worth stopping by and trying it, but be prepared for the crowds!

We ate at the tent at the Alt Stadt Fest. Food was just as good as the restaurant in the old town. Had sausages (of course) and onion bread/cake. Food was delicious and the servers are all friendly and attentive. Have been here many times since 2015.

It is one of the best places I have eaten so far, and not only in Germany. The menu is made up of traditional recipes, with local specialties, the ambiance is fabulous, the team is very welcoming. We have returned and I would return anytime to have a good meal in this restaurant.

The knight's banquet is a multi-course meal with musical accompaniment. It sounds nice at first. It helps to know that it's going to be incredibly loud. People are drinking as much as they can, and things get louder accordingly. The accompanying singing was funny at first, and we joined in. Eventually, however, the lyrics became increasingly offensive, even disgustingly vulgar. Even the young guys at the next table found it unpleasant. The food was mostly good, but we would definitely never come back.

Everything was great! However, you can't sit in the basement if you want to eat à la carte – this information should be provided when making your reservation. Nevertheless, we had a lovely evening; the food was delicious and the staff very friendly and welcoming.

Very busy and a bit touristy (staff all in Bavarian clothes and lots of random meat cleavers hanging from the ceiling) but still very good food. Very meat-oriented but we had the prawn starter, potato pancakes with salmon and grilled char all of which were very flavoursome. Portions are very generous too.

Anyone in Nuremberg craving authentic Franconian cuisine with knuckle of pork, schnitzel, and delicious drinks should definitely visit this restaurant. A place to enjoy and linger – highly recommended!

I've been going to Alte Küche'n for almost 30 years. The last four years have been spent with my wife. We're from Mönchengladbach, and whenever we went to Austria, we'd always stop there and were extremely satisfied. But not this time. We had made a reservation months ago. The warmth and cordiality that characterized the restaurant was missing. We were given a tiny table in a corner directly under a speaker. The music was too loud, and we weren't allowed to change tables. The friendliness and warmth of the service from previous years were no longer there. The chanterelle soup we ordered was bitter and unfortunately tasteless. But that's a matter of taste. The circumstances surrounding it were, unfortunately, a disaster for us. We paid and left.

Definitely an experience! We made a reservation for 7:30 PM, which is pretty much peak time, so we had to wait a bit before we could place our order.

The authentic German atmosphere was immediately apparent upon entering. Ordered a draft beer, which was quite good. Appetizer salad It seemed to be bok choy. This was my first time having such a salad. It's rare, but not bad. German Pork Knuckle The portion was incredibly huge. It was a bit too big. The softball was a mixture of millet and potato. It had a somewhat sticky texture and a unique flavor. I heard it's a unique German dish. The pork knuckle was very tender and the portion was large. It can get a bit greasy at the end. It's perfect for two people. Paired with a draft beer, it was a good way to cut through the greasiness. Dessert: Apple pie. This dish is rare in Taiwan. It was quite delicious when grilled. But it came after the main ingredient, the pork knuckle, so it was hard to fully appreciate it. The portion was quite large. Overall, I was very impressed with this restaurant.

Despite the hustle and bustle of a Saturday night, everyone was friendly. It's a good idea to make a reservation in advance, as many were turned away.

Because the waiter forgot to pass on the order, we had to wait a long time for our food. He promised us a shot of schnapps, but then didn't bring it. The long wait was worth it, though; the food was excellent!

Came for the Keller but it was closed. We still enjoyed the dinner. The setting inside was great but we preferred the outside patio. The staff’s service was excellent and speak good English. We ordered the sausage with potatoes pancakes, roast pork leg, apple strudel, medicine and burgeist schnapps, keller aperitif and beer.

Review for "Alte Küchn" - The cellar seems to be closed on Mondays, which was a bit of a shame. The food is really delicious and the staff was attentive. It's a very small restaurant with little space between adjacent tables. The table placement is a bit awkward, or too cramped. Google Maps lists a different opening time (5:00 PM) than the website (5:30 PM). This could be corrected.

We had an excellent experience at this rather popular Bavarian restaurant in the heart of Nuremburg. They have a few specialities including potato pancakes with different toppings. Great place to visit while on a walking tour of historic Nuremburg. Highly recommend!

A quaint restaurant with a very picturesque and welcoming interior, but we dined outside...and in the dark! We had to ask for the outside lights, and the waitress even seemed surprised: she brought us three candles... The food was good, but everything was served at once, from appetizers to soups to main courses, so we struggled to find a table. Then, no one showed up for 40 minutes, and we poked our heads inside because we wanted to order dessert: we were told it wasn't possible because the kitchen was closed! I insisted, and the waitress took our orders, serving us apple fritters that weren't particularly fresh, but, most importantly, a potato pancake with Nutella that was inedible, smelling of fish. They'd probably run out of the dessert version and "fished it out" from the ones they used for appetizers, accompanied by salmon...we got a little upset at that, but, as always, the waitress seemed surprised.

Terrible food, clearly prepared in advance, with chewy meat and very dry potato dumplings. If you go to Nuremberg, look elsewhere. On a positive note, the waiters speak very good English.

We were coming every year since 2020. Usually around 10pm. Food always been amazing. This time we arrived after 9pm and been refused food. They said kitchen closed for the day even though the place closing midnight.

Perfectly located in the old town and close to the castle. Very friendly service and the food was excellent (the quality justifies the price).

The Wiener Schnitzel was inedible. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. I've never had such a bad meal in a restaurant.

The word Camembert is an AOC (Protected Designation of Origin) as well as an AOP (Protected Designation of Origin)... Calling a disgusting cheese on a dish "Camembert" is simply a crime. Also, the order is lost! Cooked salmon and smoked salmon are not the same thing... A word of warning to tourists: avoid... it's a trap. The only thing is the friendly atmosphere, even the waiters are annoying 😓. I'm passionate about food, and if I say all this, it's because it's justified!!! For the record, I speak German, French, and English... Camembert is a French cheese!!! Complaining about customers who don't order regional dishes when taking an order and making comments? I ended my stay in Berlin, where I enjoyed it more, and certainly didn't feel like a fool. I'll delete my review, only when they admit that Camembert is a French cheese. If your server can't take an order, then you have a problem! I'm used to great restaurants, like... not to mention, Le Craft, L'Auberge de l'ill, etc., since there are so many of them. A sincere apology, and I'll delete it.

We went there as a family for dinner on a Sunday, and it was fantastic. Two young men were working there who were super friendly and dedicated, creating a great atmosphere. Even special requests were no problem; we were thrilled! The staff, the food, and the atmosphere were top-notch!

A boy greets us rudely because we don't speak German well, being Italian. It's 34 degrees Celsius in Nuremberg tonight. They don't even have a fan! We're sweating. We ordered a pork knuckle and Nuremberg sausages. Really nothing special.

We were there today. The service was abysmal. After 10 minutes, the waitress silently handed us our menus without a word. Another 10 minutes passed, and then we were able to order. Our food arrived within 5 minutes, before our drinks. This suggests that quantity takes precedence over quality. The food was okay, but not outstanding. My husband (a normal eater) had the shoulder of pork. He wasn't satisfied. An older man kept luring new customers into the restaurant, even though the waitress was already completely overwhelmed. This suggests that the service focus is more on quantity than quality. The empty plates with leftover food from other guests sat on the unoccupied tables for ages, not very appetizing. We also had to move from outside to inside because a swarm of flies was circling our food. But the restaurant can't do anything about that (apart from the leftover food on the already empty tables, which allowed flies to swarm there). We won't be coming here again. Very disappointing.
