The good: The food was delicious. Price-performance was also ok. It was a shame that a young man on staff was probably having a bad day: According to the sign, you should wait at the front so you can be seated. So we waited, the young man from the staff looked at us questioningly: "Food?" was his only greeting. So we sat down somewhere outside after he gave us a hand signal to choose freely. He passed the drinks across half the table disinterestedly without looking at the person and expected, without saying anything, that the drink would be accepted with a long arm. You don't want a red carpet, you really don't, but respect and friendliness are a two-way street. First time we left a restaurant/cafe without leaving a tip. It's a shame if something like that is the lasting impression.

Das Mittagessen SCHARLES eine Art großer Kartoffelpuffer war ausgezeichnet. Ich stellte den Aschenbecher von unseren Tisch auf den freien Nachbartisch. Als sich dort Kunden setzten, stellte der Kellner diesen wieder auf unseren Tisch und sagte: Der bleibt jetzt hier stehen! Allgemein kann man sagen, dass bei der Freundlichkeit noch Luft nach oben ist.

We were there on Saturday lunchtime. Small lunch menu and small menu with chanterelle dishes. We once had the salad with fried chanterelles and once the large schnitzel with chanterelle cream sauce and bread dumplings... Both very, very delicately seasoned, enough sauce for the dumplings, enough vinigrette for the salad. Mushrooms cleaned very well... We were very satisfied. Staff very friendly and very attentive. In our opinion, very good value for money. Thank you very much.

Apparently reservations mean nothing here, there is simply no place available outside if you have made a reservation. The menu is very limited and the food is plain and average. Nothing special or unusual about it and certainly not worth more than 2/3 stars.

Simply great food in a historic location. Nice waitresses - maybe also tell the younger staff that even when you're serving, you briefly greet new customers in the waiting area and ask for a moment's patience. Then it's perfect 💕

The schnitzels were good, large portions of fries were average. The prices were reasonable. What I unfortunately noticed negatively was that our 0.7l Gerolsteiner sparkling water bottle was served cold but when it was opened there was no usual hissing noise and the seal was already broken. It was the same with the bottles at the neighboring tables. At the end of the meal, heavy limescale stains formed in the glasses, which is actually not common with mineral water.

Actually it wasn't tasty. I had Semmelknödel in Pfifferlingrahmsauce, I asked for an extra piece of bacon to be fried (because I didn't want to be completely vegetarian), for 10 small pieces of bacon (and probably proportionally less Chanterelles), they asked 3 euros extra, which was ridiculous. I got half I left it because it was just not tasty and way too greasy. The small salad beforehand was ok. My partner had a very ordinary schnitzel with fries, nothing special. A real schnitzel (made from veal) is not on the menu here. With 1 beer each, we spent 59 euros; that wasn't worth it.

What food ⭐️ If you like schnitzel, I can warmly recommend Alt Bernkastel, so good. You can choose a small or large portion. I chose pepper sauce, which I did not regret, it was so good.

Unfortunately I can't agree with the good reviews. The schnitzel was pounded so thin that it could have passed for cold cuts. There was a maximum of one small mushroom in the mushroom sauce. The rest was cream and spices. Small special requests such as ice in the drink or mayonnaise with the fries were not fulfilled. The side salad was not served at all.

Why does a schnitzel have to be chewy and deep-fried... And always with fries. The salad sailed in sour dressing. I know that you can do better!!! Practice!

Without a reservation it is hardly possible to get a place, but on the second attempt it worked. The staff and food convinced us. We were able to reserve a place for two days later. We were very satisfied again on this day. I highly recommend it.

Looking for a late lunch on a wet day this place was warm and welcoming with a cosy dark interior. We had a Goulasch Soup and Flammkuchen and both were very good at a reasonable price.

We had several schnitzels in different variations, both pork and poultry, and many glasses of wine. The service was very friendly, the food was excellent and the portions were fair. The wine was great too.

June 2024: After we explored Bernkastel-Kues on foot, we felt hungry and thirsty. We chose this restaurant based on Google reviews. And what should I write. The food was excellent. What's great is that there are small and large portions to choose from! The employee was very friendly, patient and quick. Because we had very good weather we were able to sit outside. The Google rating is correct and we recommend the restaurant.

This year we were once again impressed by the very good cuisine and the friendly staff. To illustrate: Last year we ate Schorles here 6 times in one week, this year unfortunately we were only able to enjoy it three times. As always with great pleasure.

The restaurant is located in the upper part of Bernkastel. It is very small, but has a terrace on the street (pedestrian zone). The service is very friendly. The food is very good, with large portions at a reasonable price.

Food is delicious, service seems unmotivated and not really friendly. Despite the free tables, sitting outside was apparently not possible due to the weather. Five minutes later, new guests were sitting outside and then ordering food. You didn't really feel welcome. It's a shame actually

The wine was very tasty. Unfortunately the food didn't taste good at all. I ordered a potato casserole with bacon and ham. A casserole was served that contained so much bacon and cooked ham that the whole casserole was more like a ham casserole with the occasional potato. Even if it was perhaps well-intentioned, I found this dish simply inedible and also overly salty. A pity! I answered truthfully when the service asked whether it was tasty. After all, the waitress wanted to convey the verdict to the kitchen. But there was no discount or compensation.

The restaurant is located in the middle of the beautiful old town of Bernkastel Kues. We went there spontaneously and wanted to have a drink there. When we got hungry, the very friendly waitress asked us again in the kitchen if we could get anything else and we actually received a delicious snack. We were very happy about that and we were happy. Otherwise you can get all sorts of delicious dishes there at good prices.

We visited this restaurant because of the good reviews. Reservations were made weeks in advance!!! We were seated in the restaurant in sunny, warm weather. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to sit outside. We were told that there were no seats available even though there was the possibility of putting tables together. Unfortunately, the service left something to be desired here, as questions were also answered incorrectly. The meal was okay. The price-performance ratio was also okay.

We went to the restaurant with 4 people on a Saturday evening with a pre-booking. Very friendly, courteous service staff. The chosen dishes, winemaker's steak and cordon bleu, were very tasty. The restaurant was very well attended. A reservation is therefore recommended in any case. We'd love to come back!!

Let me tell you this… Service is great, food not so much. We ordered potato soup, Spargel Schnitzel and a Camembert salad. Keep in mind this place has great reviews. Well… The soup was plain and simple, nothing you would expect from a restaurant with the BEST reviews in town. The Schnitzel? That’s a different story. Way overpriced for a terrible cut of pork at 31,50. Meat was pretty much non existent and when we found it, it was grey. Spargel? Could have been out of a can just like the sauce. Potatoes? Underboiled with not even a pinch of salt on them. The salad though? It was good. Great flavors and a very nice touch with the walnuts on top of the cheese. So if you think about going there maybe you should think twice. Bon Apettit!

We've never been here and then you search around on Google and we found this. Friendly service where at one point they forgot something (sausages for the soup). They still brought this. That soup, by the way, was really tasty and you taste the right things in it. We of course opted for the schnitzel as a main course (with camembert) and it was exactly what you want it to be. The fries were crispy and delicious. I really can't fault this. We chose the small one and we didn't finish it. What I personally found strange was the closing time of 9pm on a Friday evening. We wanted to go even further with dessert, coffee and a degustation. I have to say that they asked for it at 9:20 PM (coffee, dessert) but you don't do that anymore when you see that they are closing. That's a shame for us. In summary: had a very nice experience here. Definitely recommended. There is a very extensive menu, especially in terms of drinks. Be sure to drop by because you won't leave hungry (or thirsty)👍
