Residenz Cafe & Restaurant in Weimar

Different... That's probably a fitting word for many things about this (I'm anticipating this), in a negative sense, unforgettable visit. What was "different"? We entered the restaurant in a good mood. At the end of a seating area, we spotted a free table (there were a few others, but this one seemed reasonably charming). We noticed a "reserved" sign, but considering the more than 100 minutes until the specified time, we sat down in good spirits. A few minutes later, the waitress came to our table with a shake of her head and, visibly annoyed, removed the two (old-fashioned) folded napkins. I tried to cheer up and made a (funny) remark. "We're out by the time Gudrun arrives." Unfortunately, this led to the opposite reaction from the already somewhat elderly waitress. Without offering a menu, she waited wordlessly, apparently for our order. After a brief hesitation, we placed it. Several clearly annoyed "Excuse me?" interrupted them. Finally, she turned around without a word and disappeared. We remained, shaking our heads, searching for words, and unsure whether we were even welcome. Our daughter's hot chocolate was "served" quickly, wordlessly, and almost reluctantly. Without any reference to our hot drinks, the waitress disappeared again. When our drinks were being served some time later, I asked the lady if we had done something wrong. The words addressed to us that stuck with me were, for example, "Impossible..., simply not possible..., outrageous..., you don't do something like that..., in 40 years of catering..." She didn't understand why we were so upset; we had already had our drinks, the seat we apparently wanted so badly, and we should be happy now. She didn't have time to deal with us any further... A "Welcome to Europe!" ended the conversation, and she left without further comment. The idea that people want to feel comfortable and relaxed, and not just sip a carelessly slapped-down hot drink, apparently didn't exist in the minds of this aging waitress in this equally aging establishment. So, what did she think we did "differently" than permitted? We sat down without being asked, ignored the fact that we had a reservation, and perhaps didn't adapt appropriately to the expectations of the waitress (or perhaps even the hotel) with our appearance (I was wearing a cap, sneakers, and cargo pants, which clearly didn't conform to the dress code of other people there) and our expression (my slightly flippant remark at the time of the reservation). In other words, we were "different." The end... is actually the beginning of another bad chapter of our visit to the Residenz. We felt so uncomfortable that we couldn't finish our drinks. We stood up without taking a sip, and I went to pay (an order is an order, and my daughter had half a hot chocolate). At first, I was left standing there for a few minutes, and my question about the bill was met with the lady's comment, "Is that so bad?" The request for a manager actually led to a significant change in the waitress's demeanor. We had everything we wanted, it was quick, and so on. She wanted to "invite" us drinks, which I actually found almost too much to bear. My attempts to explain why this situation was so negative for us were interrupted three times with an annoyed "Pardon?" as before, only to then leave me mid-sentence, turn away, and finish something with her colleague. No sign of a "May I interrupt for a moment, this is very urgent..." or any similar explanation. Apparently, you have to be at the level of a "Round Table" member or show up and act on a suitable day (the onion festival would have been so exhausting, but it had already been over for almost three days) to experience the feeling of hospitality here.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Resi. The romantic breakfast was very generous and delicious, and we have to say a huge thank you to the super friendly service. We would love to come back.

This is a delightful place for a late lunch. The cafe itself is large and spacious with a superb vibe: Ladies having tea and some pretty serious chess in progress. The food was fresh, excellent and well cooked. I asked for some accommodations to my dietary needs and these were met with pleasure. The service was friendly and I felt thoroughly welcomed. Although I did not have the cakes they looked very inviting! Afterwards I had a walk in the spectacular Park An Der Lim just down the road from the cafe. A wonderful afternoon. Vielen Dank Residenz!

The food was very good: freshly cooked food on my plate. The coffee afterward wasn't perfect, but it was definitely tasty. The atmosphere inside was really cute and cozy, with a small separate café. I'll be back.

I have to say, I'm truly amazed at how friendly the service can be in such a beautiful place like this. It wasn't just the service that won me over, but also the selection of outstanding delicacies. We had breakfast there, and it was simply wonderful. We received a warm welcome and were immediately assigned a table. There were no long waits, and the cozy ambiance gives the restaurant that certain something that makes it completely convincing.

The cakes and tortes didn't seem fresh or homemade, more like they'd thawed, and some were quite sweet. The Federweißer and onion cake were delicious. The coffee was good. The restrooms were without paper or tea towels. The service was friendly, but a bit overwhelmed. There were four of us, and we wouldn't come back.

As a guest you are ignored, even a cappuccino seems to be a challenge and on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. there is hardly any cake selection left

An exceptionally good café & restaurant in Weimar! Everything is just right here: delicious, fresh vegan food; a historic ambiance; and hospitable and professional staff! Our waitresses Sabine and Nica, along with Kevin at the bar, provided us with a wonderful evening of fine dining, with attentive service and warmth. We immediately felt at home. Once again, a big compliment to the kitchen for the tasteful, stylish vegan offerings! 5 stars, highly recommended

We were on a nostalgic trip; little has changed inside from 30 years ago! We always had breakfast for lovers! Despite everything, we have to criticize the breakfast. Four really small rolls are simply not enough; you have to reorder. Otherwise, almost €40 is a lot! But you don't do it that often!

Ordered Aperol and iced coffee. They forgot to bring groceries. I asked for them, and the answer was unfriendly. Iced coffee without cream, waffle cone carelessly placed on the plate. The ice cream had thick, frozen pieces of water. The atmosphere was OK, close to the main road.

I didn't eat anything. Unfortunately, I waited 30 minutes for service. And it wasn't very busy either inside or outside.

Espresso not for espresso lovers. Dark roast, rather burnt. Service is okay, but could be friendlier.

The deciding factor for our visit was the vegan breakfast selection. We enjoyed everything very much, and the view of the castle was beautiful. We only ordered an extra roll. Otherwise, we would have had too much topping. The tofu scramble could have been a bit more flavorful. The signature kala namak salt was missing, but there was a bit of an unpleasant amount of turmeric.

A very cozy atmosphere and a beautiful view of the city palace. Our waitress, Sabine, was so welcoming and, even though it was very busy, she served every guest with the same friendliness. We felt very comfortable at breakfast, which consisted of fresh, warm, baked rolls and croissants. Thank you so much. We'd love to come back. :-)

We were seated for almost 30 minutes before our order was taken. After waiting for almost an hour, we decided not to eat. Other customers who arrived after us received their food much sooner. After we finished our drinks and went to pay, we were met with a "Oh, nooooo." Only recommended if you have enough time.

We went to the Resi again today for Sunday breakfast. It was a delight. A great breakfast selection; we watched the Sunday hustle and bustle from the terrace; and enjoyed the food. We'll definitely be back. A big thank you goes to the service. We haven't been treated so warmly and attentively in a restaurant for a long time. The Resi is definitely recommended for a visit to Weimar.

It's hard to believe: such a warm welcome when we arrived and attentive service, it's truly remarkable! We immediately felt at home! We sat on the terrace on a hot summer day. Despite the heat and the busyness, we were warmly welcomed, and our dog was offered water. Drinks and food were served promptly and were delicious. Gluten-free dishes were no problem. We felt completely at home. Thank you! The restaurant also made a good impression inside – decorated in an old-fashioned coffee house style.

We came for lunch, which was very good value for money, and were lucky enough to be served and advised by Sabine, who has many years of experience in the restaurant industry, which is unfortunately a rarity these days. Highly recommended 🩵

The food tasted good, but the service was abysmal. First, we had to wait half an hour before we could order. After our order was finally placed, sausage, cheese, and salmon were beautifully presented, but the rolls took a while to arrive. After several requests and being fobbed off by the waiter, we were finally able to get our rolls and eggs after 20 minutes. However, the salmon, sausage, and cheese suffered in the blazing sun. On top of that, the blond waiter was very unfriendly. What a shame.

Very, very poor service. We were neither greeted nor bid farewell at our birthday breakfast. Arrogant, almost aggressive, and unkempt service. Disinterested and completely unmotivated. Dishes weren't cleared, not a single kind word—let alone a smile. A real shame for this beautiful, historic restaurant on Ilmpark.

Terrible welcome, 30 minutes to get a beer, unpleasant waiter but not only to us (the ladies at the table next to us seemed outraged), then you have to get up to go and pay the bill (they don't bring it to you!) and wait again for the information to pass through 3 people so that things can be done... We thought maybe we would eat something here, but we quickly moved on. Avoid...

We stumbled upon this café in Weimar by chance during a rainy break on our motorcycle, and what luck! We stopped by for breakfast and were absolutely thrilled. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the prices are absolutely fair, and the portions are perfect. What really made the visit special, though, was the service. The lady who served us was so warm and charming that she gave the whole place a very special character. Her manner simply made everything taste even better. A clear recommendation – we'll definitely be back!

A good place, historic like everything in this city. The service was good. The person who served us was a bit serious but correct. The food wasn't bad, although I expected a richer side dish. I didn't like the taste or consistency of the mashed potatoes; it was undercooked. What I loved was the tomato soup; it was delicious. The place is very pretty, and they gave us a private room for everyone, which was very nice.

For many years, I've enjoyed the "Resi" on my visits to Weimar. Always friendly, always very attentive, excellent service, truly delicious food and drinks, great coffee... Perfect location!

The location is nice, but I found the vegan options very limited. A small portion of red cabbage with two potato dumplings for €15 was too much for me and unfortunately didn't fill me up. It was tasty, but a plant-based protein side dish was missing.

We were there for a family celebration with over 20 people, and everything went smoothly and in a good mood. We loved that they also offered vegan and gluten-free cakes, something that most cafes haven't yet embraced these days. Thank you for the lovely afternoon.

Friendly service and nice ambience

My dad, partner, and I were so impressed with our visits (May 26-28) that we came here for breakfast and lunch three days in a row. The food was always very good and fresh, and the staff were very attentive and friendly. Especially the lady with glasses and a barrette in her hair. She was so wonderful and made us feel like they were happy to be there and to serve us. We'll be back next time we visit Weimar!

Ridiculous... It's completely overpriced and the quality is terrible. We had the vegetarian "breakfast for lovers." So, of course, we didn't get the ham, bacon, or cooked ham, and instead got cheese. They charged an extra €10 for that, which is outrageous. Who even calculates these prices?! The staff were unfriendly, and the restrooms are disgusting! Not recommended!

We celebrated a family celebration in the Green Salon of the Residenzcafe with afternoon coffee and an evening banquet with 14 participants. The preparation with the management about the process and the menu went great. Whatever came out of the kitchen was the first choice. The waiters were guest-oriented, competent and friendly. Reservation was possible without any problems. I reserved by email. Inquiries and changes were also confirmed by email after a telephone conversation. That speaks for professionalism. This was confirmed during the welcome and escort into the Goethe room. Here we ended my birthday with a delicious breakfast. A festively set table rounded off the delicious breakfast. Leckeres Frühstück, große Auswahl, auch das vegane Frühstück war ausgezeichnet, sogar für die sonst gerne Fleischesser Fraktion der Familie. Das Frühstück war sehr abwechslungsreich und reichhaltig, Getränke sehr lecker. Der Service super freundlich und schnell. Schade, dass wir das Café erst am letzten Tag unseres Aufenthaltes kennengelernt haben.

The restaurant is easily accessible in the center of the beautiful city of Weimar and has a long tradition. The service was excellent, the food was very tasty. There is nothing to complain about.

Wir kennen das Resi nun seit 20 Jahren, und leider hat sich die Qualität kontinuierlich verschlechtert - inzwischen soweit, dass das Frühstück, dass wir dort in dieser Woche aßen, uns nicht nur den Tag, sondern auch den Magen verdarb. Bestellt haben wir das sog. Fitness-Frühstück (Brötchen, Joghurt mit Früchten), Mini-Pancakes und eine heiße Schokolade. Kurz gesagt: Qualität durchweg unterirdisch und Service schlecht, keine gute Kombination. Qualität: Weizenbrötchen (viel Luft, wenig darin), flüssiger Honig als Aufstrich, das Joghurt mit Sprühsahne versüßt, die Früchte aus der Dose, die Mini-Pancakes cross gebraten (= trocken statt fluffig). Service: kurz angebunden und schlecht organisiert - z.B. kam zuerst der Brötchenkorb und 15 (!) Min. später das restliche Fitness-Frühstück und weitere 30 (!) Minuten später die Mini-Pancakes. Schade - keine Empfehlung mehr.

On Sunday, April 13th, 2025, we were looking forward to visiting the Residenz Restaurant again for a long time. The terrace was only occupied by a few guests. The waiter, tall and slim with light blonde hair, kept looking in the direction of our table, but unfortunately we were simply ignored! After 25' we were greeted with just one word: MAP??? As he ordered, he turned away to wipe down the neighboring table. I had to place my order at the next table. The waitress certainly doesn't talk too much, is unfriendly and creates anything but a feel-good atmosphere. He doesn't advise the guests, but takes the order as they walk past and seems annoyed. One gets the impression that this grumpy person has probably chosen the wrong profession. Through his apathy and apathy he creates a cold, unfriendly atmosphere. As a service worker, you should be able to respond to guests and have a healthy dose of politeness. What a shame! The Resi was always a good address.

We went there for breakfast specifically because of the vegan scrambled eggs. Nice atmosphere and very attentive service. The food was good and beautifully prepared, if you are relaxed and not stressed about time it is a nice stay. We would come back.

Am Sonntag, den 13.04.25 haben wir uns seid langem mal wieder auf einen Besuch im Residenz Restaurant gefreut. Die Terrasse war nur mit wenigen Gästen besetzt. Der Kellner groß, schlank mit hellblonden Haaren , schaute zwar immer wieder in die Richtung unseres Tisches, aber leider wurden wir schlicht und einfach ignoriert! Nach 25' wurden wir nur mit einem Wort begrüßt: KARTE??? Bei der Bestellung wendete er sich ab, um den Nachbartisch abzuwischen. Ich musste meine Bestellung zum Nachbartisch aufgegeben. Die Bedienung redet mit Sicherheit nicht zu viel, ist unfreundlich und schafft alles andere als eine Wohlfühlatmosphäre. Er berät die Gäste nicht, sondern nimmt die Bestellung im vorbeigehen auf und wirkt dabei genervt. Man hat den Eindruck, das dieser grantige Mensch wohl den falschen Beruf gewählt hat. Er schafft durch seine Apathie und Teilnahmslosigkeit eine kühle, unfreundliche Atmosphäre. Als Servicektaft sollte man auf Gäste eingehen können und eine gesunde Portion an Höflichkeit mitbringen. Sehr schade! Das Resi war immer eine gute Adresse.

We've known Resi for 20 years now, and unfortunately the quality has continually deteriorated - to the point that the breakfast we ate there this week not only spoiled our day, but also our stomachs. We ordered the so-called fitness breakfast (rolls, yoghurt with fruit), mini pancakes and hot chocolate. In short: Quality is consistently subpar and service is poor, not a good combination. Quality: wheat rolls (lots of air, little in them), liquid honey as a spread, the yoghurt sweetened with spray cream, the canned fruit, the mini pancakes cross-fried (= dry instead of fluffy). Service: short and poorly organized - e.g. the basket of bread rolls came first and 15 (!) minutes later the rest of the fitness breakfast and another 30 (!) minutes later the mini pancakes. Too bad - no more recommendation.

We started today with friends at Resi. The selected "breakfast for lovers" with Prosecco and orange juice was lovingly prepared, varied and thrilled us. We were also served, almost looked after, by a super friendly waitress. Thank you!

We went there twice during our vacation, for lunch and breakfast. Really delicious vegan food! Super nice service, there were pens and painting supplies for the Lütten and a large selection of Pixi books.

Used to be a nice café with good food and coffee. Well, yes. Been here again after a long absence and what can I say?: That was the last time. It's a mishmash of service. Some nice and some annoying. We ordered two things (tea and cocoa). Half was forgotten. After an extreme failure, that was it. Too bad. Hopefully things will get better soon.

Wenn es möglich wäre, würden wir mehr als fünf Sterne vergeben für das hervorragende Frühstück, mit dem wir heute, kurz nach 08.00 Uhr, im Resi starten durften. Nebem dem wunderschönen und gemütlichen Ambiente sowie der Frühstücksauswahl, die keine Wünsche offen lässt, ist jedoch herzuheben , dass wir vom Serveceteam mit grosser Herzlichkeit empfangen und insbesondere von der für unseren Tisch zuständigen Mitarbeiterin liebevoll umsorgt wurden. Besser konnte man den Tag nicht beginnen. Vielen Dank dafür!

Four of us ate at Resi and were served excellently. The food was fantastic, something we didn't know from Resi. We will come back. Definitely recommended, please keep it up. We also knew the Resi differently in the past.

Neujahr 2025 Wir sind eine sehr entspannte lustige Truppe aber dieser Besuch zu Neujahr 2025 war der Gipfel. Kellnerin war dermaßen unfreundlich unprofessionell lustlos dann sollte man sich eine andere Arbeit suchen dahin zieht es uns nicht mehr.

Cake was very tasty. The rest inedible. Unfortunately it's a bit old. The waitress (older woman with blonde hair) was extremely rude and disrespectful. Especially towards POC’s. No recommendation!

The food was cold, carelessly prepared, the duck breast was well done. Everything warmed up. There shouldn't be a trained chef in the kitchen, but rather a warm-up assistant. We're never going there again. It's a shame, because it used to be good there.

Had lunch and coffee here and was fantastic. Very busy but staff were very attentive and quick to ask if all was ok whilst we wait for food to arrive. Nice atmosphere with great view of Schloss so well worth dropping in.

Wir verbrachten heute einen erschütternden Abend im Resi. Von der eins gehobenen Gastronomie ist nichts mehr übrig. Das Essen lauwarm, auf zwei Limo danach mussten wir eine halbe Stunde warten, die Minze auf der Zitronen-Ingwer-Limo war vergammelt. Zwei ältere Herrschaften verließen geraume Zeit nach ihrer Ankunft verärgert das Lokal, weil niemand Notiz von ihnen genommen hatte, eine Dame am Nachbartisch bekam das falsche Essen, etwas weiter entfernt rüpelte eine Bedienung Gäste an, die sich offenbar beschwert hatten. Ein Blick in andere Bewertungen der jüngsten Zeit bestätigt das desaströse Bild, das sich uns bietet. Sehr schade und hoffentlich ändert sich das irgendwann wieder, denn das Lokal gehörte lange Zeit zu den gastronomischen Glanzlichtern in Weimar.
