Unfortunately, we can't comment on the food. However, we were served and advised very friendly by a waitress. She even told us a bit about the history of the restaurant and Aachen. She also gave us a short tour of the wonderful restaurant. Everything is just right here. First-class gastronomy!

Shortly after we ordered our food, the patio filled with people from a company drinks party. These people didn't sit at a table, but all stood around ours. The staff didn't see the problem. We did.

An absolute highlight of Aachen's city center! All categories are worthy of 5 stars. The food was wonderful and the prices were extremely reasonable. There's even a good selection for vegans – which is contemporary, but unfortunately not yet a given. The service was extremely attentive and friendly. Finally, the incomparable ambiance: a wonderful symbiosis of modern, high-quality interpretation of the furnishings in a historic setting. The "real highlight," however, is the terrace with its solid wooden furniture (equipped with really pretty and comfortable cushions), which offers a view across the Katschhof to our beautiful Oechsen Cathedral. This ambiance on a sunny day turning into evening is truly a revelation, combined with good food and excellent service. I'm more enthusiastic than I have been in a long time. ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much!

We stopped at the inn twice for lunch, each time just for a few Kölsch beers. The second time, we tried the traditional dish "Himmel un Äd" (Heaven and the Sky) – very well prepared and very tasty. We were particularly impressed by the service: attentive, friendly, and quick. Overall, an authentic, pleasant place for a Kölsch and the traditional dishes.

What a fantastic evening we had! Spontaneously made room in a special place in the restaurant and provided a beautiful decoration when they learned that it was our wedding day. The food was delicious and staff more than friendly.

Schnitzel at the normal price and half portion? Why not? Cucumbers on the menu and offered in homeopathic cans? Who needs vegetables anyway? Tip? You don't have to announce it, the waiter will remember it anyway ;-)

Were on the outside terrace today. The food was very good - Jägerschnitzel - (although the ketchup never arrived), but the service was subpar: 3 people who were not coordinated and you waited forever. Many also left after a period of waiting. It's a shame, but things have to work better for a place like this.

After our civil wedding, we invited people to a champagne reception on the terrace of the Ratskeller. We and our guests were totally thrilled. We were not only treated to a beautiful view of Aachen Cathedral, but also to delicious appetizers and refreshing drinks. The service was very organized and quick, so that the quite large party (approx. 120-140 people) was quickly provided with drinks and food. Even during the celebration, the service staff were very attentive, courteous and friendly! We would like to thank the whole team very much for the wonderful welcome and the great service!

We had reserved a table on Easter Monday and were looking forward to the special something of the Ratskeller. But a complete change of concept has taken place! Instead of upscale cuisine and ambience, now Postwagen menu, so more home-style, hearty and little things. I really don't have to come here for schnitzel and heaven and heaven and ääd, but the price is high, which is a shame! The Aachen Sauerbraten was partly not tender but dry, the roast beef was rather rare instead of medium, it was easy to chew... All in all we were very disappointed. :-(

Good food, definitely worth the price but not cheap. Exemplary service, not intrusive but not neglectful either. With the window open we can even see the cathedral, we'll be happy to come back.

We initially reserved a table for 2 for April 6th, 2025 at the beginning of March. The reservation was then canceled without replacement on March 24th, 2025! We then booked a new date (online via the reservation portal). The date, which was also confirmed to us in writing, was for today, April 13th, 2025. Now we are standing here on time in front of the closed doors, no one can be reached by phone, according to the exit the restaurant is now closed on Sundays. It's a real shame, you can't rely on it here! No food, no service, no ambience.

Despite a reservation, we had to wait 2.5 hours for the food with 10 people this afternoon because the order didn't arrive in the kitchen. Despite repeated inquiries, the team only noticed this when we were the last table occupied. A little compensation for the long waiting time would have been appropriate. That was our first and last visit

When we entered the restaurant, the counter waiter greeted us and said it would take a moment. No problem. We stood there for probably 5 minutes until she told her colleague, “Can you see what they want”. He received us and referred us to another colleague. He finally welcomed us and offered us a seat. Just sitting down he asked us what we wanted to drink. We weren't ready yet, so he said he'd come back later. Later was easily 10-15 minutes later, the cards had been put away for a long time so we were ready. There was also a condition going around, it obviously had nothing to do with it, but it ignored us. The gentleman then came back and took the order. Appetizer came before drinks came. When the drinks arrived, the condition apologized and said she hadn't received/seen our receipt (new system). Main course took a little longer. 1/2 pound of asparagus was ordered with schnitzel and hollondaise sauce. There were no less than 3 stalks of asparagus! Embarrassing for the price of over 30 euros. In general the food was too salty for me. The aioli for the starter was too sour. We were finished for a long time until someone finally cleared away again. During the meal he asked my partner if it tasted good. Not me and not when clearing away either. We paid directly but still gave a tip. When we left, we were ignored despite a loud "bye" (on our part). You can probably wish you a nice evening, even if you're busy at the bar. All in all, not a recommendation and not a great experience. There are better restaurants in Aachen.

A truly historic place! The Aachen Ratskeller is located in the basement of the town hall, which was built in the 14th century on the foundations of Charlemagne's former imperial palace. The Gothic cellar originally served as a storage room for food and as a wine cellar. For the first time as a public restaurant with a historical flair and home-style cuisine The Ratskeller was opened in 1951. The location in the historic center of Aachen was ideal! Over the last 7 decades, the design and culinary recipe of the restaurant has changed with the change of ownership, but it still retains the historical character of a vaulted cellar with medieval charm. After a lengthy closure, the Ratskeller reopened under the name “Ratskeller Aachen - Restaurant & Bar” in October 2022. In keeping with the tradition of the Ratskeller with its thick vaulted walls, the atmosphere remains historical, but there is now an interesting mix of stylish lighting and modern interior design in the medieval vault, which I think is very successful. The modern concept also fits in, which has a modern bistro kitchen with regional products and a wide selection of drinks, as well as a cocktail bar. There is plenty of space with many cozy niches for an intimate, atmospheric dinner for two, but also larger tables for groups. In the warm season you can also enjoy outside on the Katschhof with a view of Aachen Cathedral. If you are looking for excellent cuisine in a historic, but also contemporary, cozy atmosphere and very good and friendly service in the beautiful center of Aachen, you have come to the right place! It is advisable to reserve seats as the restaurant is very popular with Aachen residents, students and tourists.

Restaurant located just below the town hall (Rathaus). It's very cozy. It seems very expensive at first glance, but there are options for all budgets, which pleasantly surprised me. The food is very good. I chose the Snitchel. The bathroom is very spacious and even has a small waiting room with seats and everything. The service in general was very friendly, attentive and efficient, although there was one small detail that I didn't like very much... One waitress in particular, who had not served us during dinner, came at the end of the meal to offer us coffee and dessert (we had already ordered a coffee from her partner, the rest of us didn't want anything else) and she made me a little uncomfortable because she kept touching my shoulder. I don't like being touched by people I don't know at all, as if we had trust, and I got a little overwhelmed, to be honest. Otherwise, everything is correct.

We visited the Ratskeller in Aachen with two children and a teenager. Everyone was extremely enthusiastic. The dishes were plentiful and tasted delicious. We were served by a very friendly waiter who was funny yet unobtrusive. An unforgettable evening!

Super Essen, nettes Ambiente, aber... leider waren die Kellern nicht in der Lage uns zu "versorgen". Nach der Vorspeise dauerte der Hauptgang über 40 Minuten. Getränke wurden gar keine mehr angeboten, so dass wir über 1 1/2 Stunden auf dem Trockenen saßen. Versuche den Kellner herbei zu winken wurden ignoriert. Bei der Preisklasse hatten wir uns mehr erwartet.

Happy Boxing Day! It was our first time in the Ratskeller and we will be back. We had a lovely evening and the food was very tasty. The wild mixing of the courses from the vegetarian and meat/fish menu was no problem. However, the service didn't seem to be quite there that evening - the neighboring table received a greeting from the kitchen before the first course, we only received a greeting from the kitchen when we asked about/during the first course. We also had to ask for bread (it was stocked up for that, but it seemed to have been forgotten), it wasn't a big deal, but at the price level it would be nice if it could work itself out. We were seated very nicely, but there was a lot of noise at the bar (dishes, cutlery, water tanks), which didn't do justice to the atmosphere. All in all, a lovely, delicious evening that we will remember fondly.

We were there for the Christmas menu. Nice atmosphere, great menu with surprises - every course had a modern twist, very accommodating staff. Absolutely recommended!

The food is average, nothing great nothing bad. It used to be yet much better. The kitchen staff is overwhelmed. Somehow the neigbhoring tables were served with their main courses much earlier and faster although the people arrived much after us. Our main course arrived 70 minutes after we finished the starter. A two-course menu took more than 3 hours. We skipped the dessert after being in the restaurant from 19:00 to 23:00. We were exhausted from the massive wait time between 2 courses. When our group hosted wanted to pay by card the payemt transaction would not work although the card was fine before and after the dinner. The main waiter turned the card several times ostentaciously in front of our group as if the card was possibly fake. Doing this, in particular to a person of color, was much inappropriate and left a bad aftertaste.

I think the price and performance are appropriate here. The menu is manageable, classic dishes refined with that certain something. I consider the menu to be particularly recommendable. I just think the little courses in between are nice! I like the wine selection. During the meal I wished someone from the service had come to our table every now and then. I'm also happy when my wardrobe is taken away from me - but also when I don't have to look for my jacket myself after dinner. There is still room for improvement.

Wir waren mit sechs Erwachsenen und vier Kindern am 2. Adventswochenende zum Abendessen dort. Es hat sich wirklich sehr gelohnt! Die Atmosphäre im alten Gemäuer passte gut zum Weihnachtsmarkterlebnis, das Essen war hervorragend, die Speisekarte angenehm überschaubar. Aber besonders hervorzuheben ist der Service: die Kinder durften etwas von der „Postwagen“-Speisekarte auswählen, meine Glutenunverträglichkeit wurde mit größter Sorgfalt beachtet, und unser Kellner war überaus aufmerksam, charmant, humorvoll, einfühlsam und herzlich. Wir haben uns richtig verwöhnt gefühlt – vielen Dank dafür!

Wir haben zwei Karten fürs Krimi Diner geschenkt bekommen, am 4.12 war die Veranstaltung. Ich kann leider nichts gutes berichten ,Zu viele Tische alles sehr beengt, Kellner total überfordert. Als es dann endlich losging war das Essen nur lauwarm. Die Schauspielerinnen waren bemüht... Wir sind dann vor dem Nachtisch gegangen

Wir waren mit einer Gruppe von fast 100 Personen zum drei-Gang Menü im beeindruckenden Kellergewölbe. Das Essen war hervorragend und der Service sehr aufmerksam.

Man könnte sich nur wünschen, ein solches Lokal in der eigenen Region zu haben. So was, wie im Ratskeller in Aachen ,haben wir schon lange nicht mehr erlebt. Super freundliches und lustiges Pesonal, ein Koch, der sehr genau weiß, was er tut und eine Kombination von Speisen auswählt und mit viel gutem Geschmack versieht und ein Chef, der auf alle Wünsche seiner Gäste, so gut es geht, eingeht! Einfach jeden Euro wert ! Danke für den schönen Abend !

Had a reservation in the mail van, but was accidentally forgotten. That's why we were allowed to eat in the Ratskeller with the menu from the Postwagen. It was great and super tasty. Espresso, dessert and a glass of wine on the house. Service like this is exceptional.

A very nice location, especially the outdoor terrace. The food and wine are always high quality and very tasty. You also pay for this and the mostly great service. An upscale restaurant in a nice atmosphere, with an appropriate price-performance ratio. Until a few weeks ago, the menu was a bit more extensive, so that you had a small selection of starters, entrees, main courses and desserts. So you could always vary things over several visits (we are returning visitors), which we really liked. The menu has apparently been “changed” for a few weeks now. There is only one vegetarian and one fish/meat menu, each with up to 5 courses. The courses can also be ordered individually, but that's about it. If you come to eat several times within 4-6 weeks and can only choose from these two menus, we find that very little and also disappointing for a restaurant in this upscale category. This very limited menu is a big step backwards; regular visits are no longer worthwhile. Even if it tastes very good and everything around it is also true.

I celebrated our first wedding anniversary with my husband in the Ratskeller. The ambience was extraordinary. The employees were attentive and very accommodating - Charlotte in particular was very, very polite. She gave us a great cocktail, a good mood and a great time. We had the vegan 5-course menu. Nice, more exclusive restaurant. When visiting with large groups, the acoustics in the vault are unfortunately extreme - hence the deduction for the ambience.

Very nice restaurant in the very centre of Aachen. Food is very good and the people are very friendly and helpful. Only small complaint is the noise management in then lower part. Because of the structure of the basement, it can be a bit noisy when there are many people eating and talking.

The Ratskeller in Aachen is always a good choice! We recently celebrated our wedding there and we loved it. On the one hand, the food (3-course dinner, appetizers at the reception) was excellent. But what I would like to emphasize above all is the great service! All the employees are very friendly, attentive and do a great job. No matter how busy it was, you could always ask anyone if you had any questions and it would be taken care of. This made it very relaxing for us and our guests and we felt very comfortable. I couldn't have wished our celebration there was better :)

Great atmosphere, but unfortunately I had a large piece of hard plastic wrap under my mashed potatoes. The head waiter's reaction was simply to take away the plastic wrap on a plate. There was neither an apology nor a new meal. The whole thing is so off topic that I have no words to express my astonishment and that of my companions. I really can't recommend this place to anyone.

La Ternera blanca asada con café, vainilla y pimienta, zanahorias glaseadas, patatas y mousse de ajo silvestre me gustó. El Salmón con corteza de ajo salvaje y hierbas, espárragos verdes, muselina de patata y limón, beurre blanc y caviar de salmón tenía buen sabor, aunquepersonalmente me gusta el salmón menos hecho. La Tarta de queso con crema de limón, crumble de limón, almendras tostadas y helado de chocolate belga, No me convenció, demasiada mezcolanza que no suma entre sí. The historic center is located on the ground floor of the Town Hall itself, an unbeatable location. Updated Aachen cuisine, good product, pleasant atmosphere and good service. Very delicious white asparagus, green asparagus, garlic mayonnaise, radish and quail egg. 〰️ What good asparagus there is in this area. I liked the roasted white beef with coffee, vanilla and pepper, glazed carrots, potatoes and wild garlic mousse. The Salmon with wild garlic and herb crust, green asparagus, potato and lemon mousseline, beurre blanc and salmon caviar tasted good, although I personally like my salmon less done. The Cheesecake with lemon cream, lemon crumble, toasted almonds and Belgian chocolate ice cream, did not convince me, too much of a mixture that does not add up to each other. High CPR, for example, bottle of water cost €7.5

Pocos camareros hablaban inglés, lo que dificultaba la comunicación a pesar de que hablo alemán. Nos apresuraron a ordenar en lugar de darnos un poco de tiempo para disfrutar de nuestra bebida. Pedimos el aperitivo de pan/paté et al seguido de sopa de patata. Pedimos que trajeran la sopa después de que hubiéramos terminado con nuestro primer aperitivo. La sopa apareció 1 minuto después. Y fue enviado de vuelta. Cuando volvió a llegar era más crema que patata. No lo comí porque la comida extremadamente cremosa me molesta el estómago. No había un solo plato alemán en el menú principal. Las selecciones fueron muy limitadas. Finalmente Al camarero se le ocurrió un menú secundario que Incluido schnitzel de salchicha con salsa de setas. Pedí que fuera salsa de lado y col roja. 45 minutos después llegó el schnitzel El schnitzel estaba duro y muy marrón, obviamente demasiado cocido. Sólo podíamos comer unos bocados. La salsa de setas (con pocas setas) tenía la misma salsa crema Como la sopa de patatas. La col roja, sin embargo, Estuvo bien. We once went to a crime dinner event in the Ratskeller and were totally thrilled. The separate area in the vaulted cellar is absolutely beautiful and overall the restaurant seemed very well maintained and of high quality. The food is similar to that in a brewery, rather hearty, but very, very tasty if you like this cuisine. We had goose leg with dumplings and remember it fondly. The service was also excellent. Small disadvantage: All the good things are reflected in the price, but it's absolutely worth it.

We spent a very nice evening in the Ratskeller. We were also able to try the new cocktails and were really excited about the Gin Basil and also the non-alcoholic mocktail. We also received a very tasty greeting from the kitchen. We remember the evening very fondly because both the staff and the food were great.

This was our last diner in Aachen. We just stepped in without a reservation. Despite the fully booked tables, we were welcomed. While awaiting for a table, nice cocktails was made. After drinking the cocktails we were escorted to the table they prepared for us. We have had a 3 course meal. The table service was very pleasant. We were there with about 12-15 people and had ordered a 3-course menu. Well, what can I say, the food wasn't bad, just the portions were a little too small to fill us up, and we had to wait an incredibly long time for the other courses Wait, it seemed to us like they were deliberately pushing it back so they could sell more drinks. We won't come back again.

Amazing food and friendly staff. Every dish was special, the staff pay much attention to the customer. We had a little delay in getting the appetizer and they offer two desserts. Special mention for the surprise cocktail prepared by the kind Chalette ;)

Visit the restaurant alone but the staff was very friendly, especially thanks to the bartender Charlotte that made the communication very easy. The chef made an amazing kalbtartar and Weiss spargus to dessert grappa from the region an espresso. Thanks to all staff!

Dear Ratskeller, we were guests from Hanover in Aachen from March 26th to March 28th. We were happy to have you take care of us on Tuesday evening. The recommended menu for my wife and I, as well as the pheasant breast for our daughter, were excellent. The service was attentive, funny and competent but never intrusive. We believe this restaurant shares its kitchen and staff with the Postwagen, where we tried to eat first but with no success as we were “forgotten” upstairs… We then decided to try Ratskeller, as the menu was appealing and the other restaurants nearby seemed to offer mainly fast-food. The food was overall very good, although I wasn’t too fond of the pheasant (but the poached pear and oysters as entrées were both good, and the cod as well). The only problem was, again, the service. The restaurant didn’t seem very big, and although we saw at least 5 people working there (including the same lady that was at the other restaurant), everything took a long time (just bringing the menu and taking our order took around 30 minutes, and when we finished ordering our dinner, we were asked if we wanted the wine list, even though the very last thing we asked for was a bottle of a Chardonnay… 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ oh, and the bottle didn’t come, just a glass, but that’s ok). We also noticed that some other people that were already there seemed to wait a long time for their dishes as well. The staff was friendly and they spoke English and French, which was a plus, but the service was a little underwhelming especially since we were already hungry from our wait at the Postwagen. I would still recommend this restaurant and prefer to give it the benefit of doubt.

Beautiful ambience with excellent cuisine. Even vegan dishes are served lovingly and with a perfect taste composition. A pure taste explosion for both the eye (flower decoration!) and the palate. The service staff are professional, attentive and committed. There is a good wind blowing here - you can tell that straight away.

Wir haben hier Krimidinner (mit Das Kriminaldinner) gespielt. Das Essen für uns und die Gäste war überragend gut: phantasievoll, mit Liebe zum Detail, sowohl für's Auge als auch für den Gaumen. Man merkt wie viel Sorgfalt in jedem einzelnen Gericht steckte, obwohl jeweils über 60 Essen gleichzeitig hinaus gehen mussten. Dekoriert mit Blüten, Kräutern, feinste Gewürzabmischung mit hochwertigen Gewürzen und geschmacklich immer eine vollendete Komposition. Auch der Service und die Serviceleitung wären perfekt. Freundlich, zugewandt, persönlich engagiert. Direkt beim Reinkommen haben wir gemerkt, dass hier alle engagiert und gerne arbeiten. Alle haben ihr Bestes gegeben, und das mit bester Stimmung. Einfach hervorragend.

A restaurant in a unique setting. Very friendly welcome. The tables are well spaced and not very noisy. Reasonable price. Dishes with sought-after flavors. Impeccable sanitary facilities. The map could be more extensive.

Very exclusive and excellent cuisine.

Mehr als 100 Plätze und kein Gast. Trostlos am Mittag um 1300 Uhr. Im Postwagen waren im Oberen Stockwerk ca 20 Gäste dafür wurde im Erdgeschoss auch nach 20 Minuten Wartezeit nicht bedient.

We were well served. Food was really delicious. Can really recommend the dishes in the photos. Super nice if you have a special evening to celebrate.

Trevlig Restaurang med super go vällagad mat...men innan maten kommer!!!!...... behöver har tålamod . Jag väntade 50min. på min varmrätt.

Wir waren zu einem Event dort in einem separaten Raum. Sehr gemütlich, guter Service...aber das Essen! Hatte "Hähnchenbrustfilet" bestellt, was kam, war ein halbrohes Etwas, was ich natürlich reklamierte. Es dauerte ewig, zurück kam eine reduzierte Portion Geflügel, die jetzt zu erkennen war: das Schultergelenk eines Hähnchens mit herausragendem Knochen!! Ich wollte keinen Aufstand, deshalb reklamierte ich nicht noch einmal. Im Gegensatz zum Hauptgericht war das Dessert (lt. allgemeiner Meinung am Tisch viel zu süß) sehr üppig. Schade.....

Tolles Gewölbe, das Essen kann der Location leider nicht gerecht werden.

Uriges Restaurant mit Gewölbe, ob Stuhl oder Bank: Sehr angenehme Sitzplätze. Freundliche und geduldige Bedienung, sehr schön zusammengestellte und schmackhafte Gerichte. Sehr gut: Der Kellner hat sich die Gerichte der einzelnen Gäste merken können! Gruß aus der Küche sowie kleines Zwischensorbet sorgte für angenehme Überraschung.

Heel fijne ervaring! Vriendelijke bediening, lekker en verfijnd gegeten, en hondje kreeg een kommetje water. Correcte prijs. Doe zo verder!
