We stayed at Hotel Freund for two nights and were so disappointed that we left a night early. The spa facilities, which we had booked separately, were completely booked out, without any prior notice. The room was large, but neither particularly attractive nor high-quality. You could see the exposed wiring in the bathroom ceiling, which looked cheap and neglected. The way we were treated was especially unpleasant. The manager came to our table during lunch in the hotel restaurant and accused us of smoking in the room in front of other guests, even though we only smoked on the balcony, where an ashtray was provided. This situation was extremely uncomfortable for us, and we found it very disrespectful. All in all, we did not feel well treated and cannot recommend Hotel Freund.

I was staying at this hotel for business and therefore didn't use the spa or other leisure facilities. My room had a single bed, but the bathroom was very small. Overall, the hotel is clearly showing its age – the bathrooms, in particular, are in dire need of renovation, and a fresh coat of paint would benefit the hotel. The carpets in the hallways also look old and worn. The rooms are also very noisy – you can hear the alarm clock or the TV from the next room in the morning. It was fine for a business overnight stay, but I wouldn't book this hotel for leisure.

The missing star for service is due to the poor service at the bar, which makes you feel very lonely. Overall, we really enjoyed it; it was great value for money.

Unfortunately, we have to agree with the negative reviews. Our expectations for our relaxing short break were unfortunately not met. For just under €250 per night including half board, we're used to a different standard. - The rooms are dated and in need of renovation. - The regular evening buffet unfortunately didn't meet our expectations and was okay. - The vegan evening menu option was really not good; the food was very simple, and one evening the food was returned. They should consider a cooking class and not offer a vegan alternative. The spa is positive; it's spacious and inviting for a sauna. The service staff is mixed. They ranged from service-oriented and friendly to grumpy, "please don't approach them." For us, the value for money here was not right.

We definitely wouldn't stay in that room again. Overall, it was a three-day stay, which for us was meant to be rest and relaxation – and that was generally quite good here. The price for the room, however, is a real disappointment, regardless of the fact that it was just the two of us and therefore only used part of the room. We went by the online photos, which unfortunately bore little resemblance to reality. The sauna facilities are small, but perfectly fine for the duration of our stay. The staff and kitchen deserve a huge compliment – ​​consistently friendly and attentive, and the food was truly excellent. If it weren't for the room, which, to be honest, annoyed us and significantly spoiled the overall impression, we would recommend the hotel. But over €760 for two nights (including half board) – with a bathroom you can barely turn around in if you're wearing size 12 shoes – that's simply unacceptable. Especially since the room price on Booking was even higher for breakfast only.

Hello everyone, I'll try to keep my reviews brief. The buffet at €49 per person is far too expensive, the food wasn't good and poorly presented. Furthermore, the service at the buffet was poor. There were no alternatives; if you're staying overnight you have to book the buffet. The breakfast was good, but unfortunately you don't get a friendly good morning anymore, and for a 4-star hotel there wasn't even salmon for breakfast. I also think the staff are only there to make money, which is very uncaring. This is the case in many areas of the hotel, whether it's room cleaning or the restaurant. For a 4-star hotel, I expect more cleanliness and a love of work. In conclusion, I was at the Hotel Freund 15 years ago, back then everything was a bit smaller and nicer, it was clean and the staff were friendly, you felt very comfortable and the food was excellent. Today I think that the Hotel Freund has lost its heart, the price-performance ratio is no longer right. For the money we spent there, there are much better hotels. Sorry.

I had to cut short my short vacation because the conditions were unbearable. The room smelled very pungently of chemical air fresheners, the walls were sloppy and painted in garish, unpleasant colors, the walls were so thin it felt like you were sitting in your neighbor's room, cleanliness left a lot to be desired, the TV remote was broken, and the Wi-Fi kept crashing. The showerhead in the bathroom was very basic, and the water pressure was poor. The hallways, and especially the carpet in the winding hotel, were very worn and, like the entire hotel, seemed outdated and poorly maintained. The hotel is not wheelchair accessible; you have to lug your luggage up several steps. Some of the staff speak German so poorly that they are incomprehensible. My meal in the hotel's restaurant consisted of simple convenience products with flavor enhancers, etc. The flowers in the boxes in front of the restaurant windows were dried out. The pool smelled musty in one corner, and the spa area was generally very unkempt. The Finnish indoor sauna was extremely small, and the loungers were too narrow. The advertised massage and wellness treatments were unavailable for the entire duration of my stay! Other hotel guests reported to me that they also found the sign stating that there were currently no rooms available for the entire week of their stay. Overall, a horror trip that I strongly advise against! Maximum 1 star. I'm surprised that the hotel manager was so diligent in commenting on the reviews and even granted refunds. I asked for a meeting with him on the day of my early departure, got an appointment, arrived on time, but Mr. Weiss wasn't there. Half an hour later, I met him, and he promised me a partial refund of my travel expenses. Later, I received an email with a voucher for the chain, which was also less than the promised refund amount. My reply went unanswered. If a hotel guest complains about a service as unreasonable and not as expected, and the decision-maker also promises a refund, the contractual partner should adhere to that promise. Further points that confirm to me that this hotel, at least in part, is not customer-oriented. Hospitality? Not a trace.

I had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Freund. The morning started with aquafit with Susanne. Her positive attitude got the day off to a great start. Finding a spot in the wellness area was never a problem. Water and tea were always available. I was able to relax in the quiet room; the flooring alone is amazing. A very pleasant, comfortable atmosphere. All the staff were very friendly. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Yoga in the afternoon... very soothing. Both ladies were very knowledgeable. I'll be back for the yoga classes alone. It was a fantastic time. Thank you!

At that price, I find a room that smells of sewage and has no air conditioning in 36-degree heat a disgrace. Everything seems to be geared toward profit maximization. A buffet costs 49 euros and there's no alternative. It means pay or drive half an hour, because you're in the middle of nowhere. A rip-off concept.

The hotel truly offers everything your heart desires! The spa area is fantastic, with six saunas and two pools, as well as plenty of loungers, so there's something for everyone. However, you should book treatments well in advance to secure appointments! The spa area also offers free snacks, and water dispensers are available throughout the hotel. I had a comfortable premium single room with plenty of space and a private balcony. I booked half board and was completely thrilled with the dinner. The buffet is generous and varied, the dessert selection is enormous, and everything is delicious. The breakfast is also varied, and allergy-friendly options are catered for. The area is beautiful and perfect for exploring on your own. Perhaps the only negative is that breakfast is limited to 10 a.m. on weekdays, and you should definitely arrive before 8:30 a.m. for dinner to enjoy the full selection. Additionally, the hotel is very winding and resembles a labyrinth, where you can get lost from time to time and have to climb a few stairs, so it's not entirely wheelchair accessible 😅 However, it's well-signposted, and the staff are happy to help you find rooms, saunas, and other amenities. The area is very quiet, which is great, but the nearest supermarket is also quite far away. It's definitely a good idea to have a vehicle. In short: I returned from the short trip completely refreshed and full of motivation.

The evening buffet could be more varied. Unfortunately, some of the staff aren't exactly overly friendly. Overall, it's OK.

Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The wellness/spa area is very nice and spacious, and the surroundings are also inviting for relaxation. However, the dinner buffet unfortunately didn't live up to our expectations for this hotel category, especially the vegetarian option: very dry pasta gratin, dry salmon, over-salted vegetables... Unfortunately, the value for money here isn't good.

We were there with our family over the weekend and unfortunately have to say that expectations and reality diverged dramatically. Rooms weren't available at 3 p.m. as advertised, but at 4:30 p.m. The toilet in one of the rooms wasn't cleaned (we'll spare you a photo). The booking confirmation explicitly asked about any food intolerances. There were buffets both evenings. The first evening was a barbecue outside. Nicely done. The buffet consisted of meat (well-done, thin beef steaks, pork belly, Krakow sausage) and, for vegetarians, only mushrooms and shrimp. Vegans were left empty-handed. Salads and side dishes lacked any creativity, and the staff weren't very motivated. No fries or spaghetti for small children. "You have to complain to reception." They tried hard but couldn't make a decision or influence the decision. The buffet the next evening included roast beef (which was OK), bami goreng, and seafood risotto. Again, no fish. Dips for bread and lemon cake for dessert were only available to those who arrived by 7:30 p.m. The buffet itself, however, was available until 9:30 p.m. However, home-style fare isn't enough for a 4****S category. The breakfast buffet was the best and appropriate for the rating. The deluxe rooms were at best standard (regulating the water temperature was a matter of luck). Only the spa area was very nice. Unfortunately, despite the self-service buffet, it wasn't possible to eat outside on the terrace on this glorious summer evening. We finally received a bottle of wine in each room, as well as a discount on the room rate and the dog fee of €25 (!) per night. This wouldn't have been necessary if, for just under €4,000 for four rooms with half board and two nights, you had received what you'd expect from a 4****S category hotel in a region surrounded by nothing but meadows and fields. The family's wish was to rekindle the memories of the hotel's past, from when we knew it before it was sold to Lohbeck. And it could have become an annual tradition. A missed opportunity.

The hotel is located in a quiet location in Oberorke, a small town. The hotel offers a lovely spa with an indoor and outdoor pool. The bathrobes are faded, shrunken, and awful. The room itself was clean, but a bit dated, but the beds were very comfortable. We've experienced much better breakfast and dinner at other 4-star hotels. The dinner buffet is rather simple. There is ample parking at the hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

We stayed here for three nights and really enjoyed our stay. The wellness area is fantastic. There are two large pools, several saunas, a steam room, and even couples' relaxation rooms. I've never been to a wellness hotel with a map because there's so much variety. The fitness room was also great with very modern equipment. The food definitely deserves special mention. There's a wide selection at both dinner and breakfast, and everything was delicious. Even as a vegetarian, you can eat your fill here. We also like that the bathrobes provided by the hotel are all different colors. This way, there's no risk of confusion, and not everyone is wearing white bathrobes, as is usual. Since there are so many relaxation areas here, guests are spread out well, and you can relax. Furthermore, the service staff is very accommodating and friendly. We were more negatively affected by other guests. Unusually for a wellness hotel, there are many families with children here. The children constantly jump into the pool and run around, even though this isn't allowed. A sign right by the pool indicates this, but people don't seem to care. Furthermore, the rooms are unfortunately very noisy.

A beautiful hotel. Lovingly designed. We had a large, spacious room with a balcony. The sauna area was clean and tidy. There were plenty of places to relax and unwind. The full-body massage we booked was excellent. Dinner and breakfast were buffet-style, and we didn't miss a thing. Overall, a successful weekend.

It was a lovely and relaxing holiday. A very quiet and idyllic area. It was good value for money. We would come again.

The hotel is beautifully situated and invites you to relax. The wellness area is inviting. The saunas are beautifully designed, although some are in need of minor repairs. The pools are well-maintained and clean. The rooms are decent but showing their age. The bathroom is functional. The shower has no water pressure, and you have to wait 10-20 minutes for warm water to come out of the calcified showerhead. Room service is inattentive and seems overwhelmed. The treatment options are well-chosen and very relaxing. The restaurant is cozy, and the food is delicious. The service here is very attentive and friendly. Overall, I had a pleasant and relaxing stay at your hotel.

A very nice hotel with extremely friendly staff. Great spa and wellness area. At dinner, I had the feeling the service was a bit understaffed. But where isn't that these days? My single room was very nice, and the cleanliness throughout the hotel was top-notch! The water takes a long time to heat up in the shower, but there are worse things. The fantastic beautician, Dr. Chang, and yoga instructor Nelly deserve special mention. (5 stars+)☺️

We had a truly wonderful short break! The room was beautifully bright and spacious, with a balcony offering a beautiful view. The furniture and bathroom amenities weren't the newest, but everything was clean and functional. The TV was quite small, but we hardly used it anyway, as we spent most of our time in the wellness area. The saunas, pools, and relaxation rooms are fantastic. The service was friendly and attentive, but seemed a bit overcrowded at dinner, so we had to wait quite a while for our food and drinks. The wait was worth it; all the dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. We came home completely relaxed and look forward to our next visit!

Hello, We were your guests and enjoyed our stay. Since we only booked three nights, the food was fine for us despite the limited menu selection. Breakfast was plentiful and had a good selection. Unfortunately, the hotel seems to be lacking staff, as the rooms are very poorly cleaned. Dust bunnies under the bed, the tiles in the shower have a beautiful patina, and everything else hasn't been thoroughly cleaned in a long time. We also found the carpeting in the hallways unpleasant. The hotel should take the reviews seriously, as the four-star rating is currently unjustified. Despite everything, we enjoyed our stay and were very satisfied with the sauna area and the pool. We can therefore imagine coming back. Best regards

We like to take a wellness weekend every now and then. Unfortunately, we didn't like the Hotel Freund at all and won't be coming back 🤷

We spent one night at this hotel and were overall disappointed. The rooms were noticeably dated – there were numerous dust balls under the bed, which was supposedly freshly cleaned. The bathroom didn't have a working extractor, and the entire room was very noisy. The wellness area was fine, but it was unhygienic that used cups were simply rinsed and then stacked wet inside one another. The food was of acceptable quality, but the ambiance left a lot to be desired: no candles, no flowers, neither inside nor outside – overall, everything seemed very unloved and lacked a discernible decorative concept. For a supposedly 4-star hotel, the value for money was by no means justified. We regularly stay in hotels of this or higher category – but we have never had such a disappointing experience.

The room had some dusty spots. It was also extremely dated. The food at the buffet tasted like frozen food. The relaxation factor was, of course, zero...

We stayed at the Hotel Freund with our entire family for two nights. Unfortunately, I can't confirm the 4+ star rating. Some of the rooms had various defects (sewer smell, dirty, broken furniture). The à la carte selection consisted of three main courses, two starters, and two desserts. It was very unpleasant for my guests. We had to wait a very long time for service in the wellness area. However, the prices quoted for food and drinks made the hotel more than overpriced. They were calling for 5 stars, which is a shame. Improvements need to be made everywhere.

I don't understand the negative reviews. Apart from a few minor issues, everything was very good. The breakfast buffet was excellent, the dinner was very good, and the staff were very friendly and always approachable. The hotel is very secluded, but we were helped immediately upon request. We are very satisfied.

Very nice hotel with a great sauna area and heated outdoor pool. Half board is highly recommended. The menus served are very creatively prepared and absolutely delicious. The rooms are nicely furnished, but unfortunately a bit noisy. We also noticed that the doors in the hallways slam extremely loudly. The environment is not particularly exciting, but after a few kilometers by car you reach the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park. We'll definitely come back.

We were day guests and had a lovely stay in the spa area. One star deducted because the saunas were only heated up from midday, even though the area opens at 10 a.m. The breakfast was very plentiful, fresh and sufficient.

We took advantage of a very good offer and therefore paid far less than the usual price. So the plv was ok for us. The impression was clouded by housekeeping. Windows in most areas of the house were rather dirty, our room was not clean, a lot of dust in the bathroom too, stained sheets. There is a 4-course menu, the main course can be chosen in three types: fish, meat, veggi. Then dessert or cheese. It sounds straightforward, but the kitchen implements it brilliantly. There is a need for training in service regarding the menu.

We were greeted warmly at the reception, which left a positive first impression. The hotel may look a little old from the outside, but the inside impresses with its modern and attractive design. Particularly noteworthy is the excellent breakfast, which impresses with its variety and quality. The outdoor areas invite you to relax and offer a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy your stay in peace. However, an unexpected experience marred our arrival: we got stuck in the elevator and found that neither the alarm nor our call to reception elicited an immediate response. After about 20 minutes I unlocked the door and luckily we were able to exit the elevator on the first floor without any problem. Despite this incident, we really enjoyed our stay overall. A nice hotel with a lot of potential - if the service in emergencies were a little better organized, it would be highly recommended.

We were recently guests at the Hotel Freund for two nights and would not book another holiday there. From our perspective, a completely different type of hotel (and hotel room) was advertised than what we actually encountered. The "luxury" double room was noisy and far from any luxury in every respect. The “view” paid for was limited to a view of a parking lot and a field. The room itself was clean, but the mattresses were very worn out. The sports facilities consisted of a windowless, careless fitness room - the wellness area was ok, but the saunas were really very small and manageable - there was little sense of "4 star plus" here either. The dinner was discussed in many other reviews - and I can only underline the reviews three times: we were unpleasantly surprised by the service, ambience and the quality of the food in relation to the price paid. There was NO ALTERNATIVE to the 4 course menu - our main course (one fish, one meat) was only lukewarm. The second evening we ate outside the house in a restaurant (but had to drive 20 minutes). All in all, we didn't agree with the price paid for the service we received. For us, the room prices and the overall ambience were not in good proportion to the service received.

We were there at the weekend for a spontaneous wellness weekend. Overall the hotel is okay, but you shouldn't expect too much. What was booked was: 2 nights, double room deluxe (according to the hotel the best double room it has to offer), including half board. 1. Hotel/Room: The hotel is quite large, lots of rooms, quite winding, but at first it makes a good impression. When we booked, we initially wanted the junior suite - but then decided against it because the suite doesn't have a TV on the bed. There would only have been one by the small seating area. So we decided on a deluxe double room. To be fair, the rooms are no longer renovated as stated on the website. Our room was quite shabby, had some dents and damage and had a few really critical points: a TV on the wall that was much too small; a wallpapered shower in which, unfortunately, the wallpaper is already tarnished and moldy; Mattress was quite worn out. (See also pictures). However, the room was very clean! No complaints about that :) 2. Food/Board The food overall was ok. The breakfast buffet was actually very good. We also had a buffet on both evenings. On the first evening you have to say that the price-performance ratio was not right. The evening meal costs €56. The selection of dishes on offer was not high enough. Not a classic meat dish, otherwise rather "simple" dishes. The quality of the products was good! But at that price you have to eat a lot to get the value for money. The second evening was better. Roast beef and sea bass as main courses were pretty close to what you would expect for the price. 3. Service Well...good old service. I have no idea whether our expectations are too high... a few examples: The first evening the hot water in our room didn't work. A call to the reception resulted in the following statement: "I no longer have a technician in the house, go take a shower in the wellness area" - THAT WON'T WORK AT ALL. That's not how you treat paying guests in a 4 star hotel! Ultimately it was due to the hot water inlets being turned off! Why were they closed...? Unfortunately, the next day there was no message from the hotel about a room change or a technician. We hadn't informed you that it was possible! The hotel has a games room for children, including a table tennis table. The room itself is really bland, dark and not pretty. But well... unfortunately we couldn't find a table tennis ball and asked at reception. The fact that we weren't laughed at was everything. But I think that if you have a table tennis table, you should offer suitable equipment, preferably for a deposit. Overall, the staff was very young, mostly tried hard, and as I said, some of them were really unfriendly. But professional hospitality and the guest is king was missing. 4. Wellness area The wellness area itself is attractively designed. A nice selection of saunas, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, many treatments can be booked. We were there right after breakfast. It was pleasantly quiet, we were able to use all the saunas (after finding out the start times) and everything was clean and pretty. BUT: we really had to keep up with the information about when which saunas would start! Why isn't something like this displayed in the wellness area? / Unfortunately the free selection of teas was not filled. There was only black tea. / The wellness bistro was closed at 1 p.m. That's why you were allowed to go to a normal restaurant in a bathrobe. But it was too cold there for a leisurely lunch and the selection of dishes wasn't suitable for a wellness day. / It was far too crowded in the afternoon. Overcrowded saunas, a full pool area, and screaming children with water wings (I like children, but relaxation is something different for me - but that's certainly a topic for discussion ;) ) Overall: 3 out of 5 stars :)

The hotel is very remote, but is ideal for hiking, horse riding and cycling. The interior urgently needs to be modernized. The carpets no longer give the impression of being clean and the furnishings are very old-fashioned. Orientation is really difficult in this large hotel and the various rooms, such as the yoga room and massage rooms, can only be found by asking and walking around several times. Better signage or a short explanation when checking in would be very appropriate. The rooms are very large and clean, there is nothing to complain about here. The wellness area could also be more modern and a little better maintained, in the afternoon there was almost no space left on the loungers but you can still relax quite well. There is a very good breakfast buffet and helpful service staff both in the morning and evening. Unfortunately, the food in the evening was a bit disappointing and overpriced. There was very little choice in the form of a menu and hardly anything for vegetarians as a main course. The yoga courses and the friendly service in the evening were very positive. Overall it was a relaxing and pleasant weekend but unfortunately the price-performance ratio in this hotel is not right.

My wife and I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. We were initially worried about the previous reviews, but we absolutely cannot understand them. We received a very friendly welcome. Our room was ready and clean earlier. The food tasted very good. What we also liked about it is that if you don't like something from the 4-course menu, you can simply deselect it in advance, which avoids wasting food unnecessarily. Despite a later request for wellness treatments, they successfully tried to fulfill our wishes and then carried them out very professionally. The spa area is very well equipped and clean. There is a large selection of saunas. And 2 nice pools, one inside and one outside. We definitely won't have been there for the last time.

This is about service. We were recurring guests for a long time before the Corona period.... Then in 2020 I received vouchers worth €1,350. These were then forgotten for private reasons and also Corona. Now we wanted to redeem them...., just the brief note: We have been sold: are no longer valid. TEXT to Lohbeck Privatholtels Ladies and Gentlemen It's about vouchers that were purchased for the Hotel Freund in Oberorke in 2020 or were given as a gift! In total there are three vouchers worth €1,350! These were issued in September 2020! After that there was Corona, and unfortunately these were forgotten! After remembering this now, we called Oberorke today and asked whether these were still valid?? We were informed that these vouchers are no longer valid because there has been a change of operator! We find that unfortunate, and overall not fair! It would be a shame if you lost a long-standing guest! Thank you for your attention.

The rooms are very dirty and old. Despite moving to a new room. This was also dirty. The dinner is not 4 star food. There are old seat cushions to lie on in the spa area. A disaster and worth a maximum of 2 stars.

First of all I have to say that the food and the wellness area were good. But the service has been really bad. No new towels at the paw station. No new towels in the sauna area from 5 p.m. Some saunas open from 5:00 p.m. Partially still closed at midday at 12:00 p.m. Outdoor swimming pool not open. Everything was only partially resolved after several calls from several guests. Coffee bar in the wellness area permanently closed. And that over Christmas. Savings are probably being made at the wrong end here. We were guests over Christmas in 2022 and everything was perfect. This time the disappointment was even greater. It's a shame for such a nice hotel. We also wanted to book rooms with 5 men for a motorcycle tour in the summer. But even after 2 months we didn't receive an answer. When we asked, we were told. That was the last time!

We were there as a family of 3 for 5 wonderful days and it was a special experience. We were immediately welcomed with open arms and the service was simply great. Wellness area was really great, lots of different saunas, 2 pools, the wellness treatments were a dream, breakfast and dinner were super delicious and plentiful, since we were there on Christmas Eve there was an excellent 5-course menu, like the other days over Christmas, the employees were delicious are very friendly and eager to fulfill every wish of the guest... For us it was a wonderful and enjoyable time in Oberorke. Oh yes, before I forget, we went horseback riding too. Totally cool :-)

Unfortunately, the charm of the old days under the Freund family seems to have been lost. The rooms are getting old and very noisy. In our case (0 degrees outside temperature) the heating was on low and the window was tilted, so we froze for the first few hours. It was also too cold for us to feel comfortable in the restaurant. The staff in the restaurant sometimes speak and understand German poorly, so there were misunderstandings. The dinner (menu) was really not great. The wellness area is also getting old, hardly any staff and a very loud (probably exhaust) system that rattles all the time. Ugly grandma deck chair cushions could be replaced. What is particularly missing is a certain warmth and attention to guests. Nothing came of it for us at all. That would be bearable and okay for a cheap 3-star hotel with a sauna in the village. But the price level at Freund is high and then it just doesn't fit anymore. So either: prices go down significantly or quality and investments go up. We've been here a few times but won't be back unless the reviews get better.

The rooms are a good size, and the minibar and safe are also available. The taste of the furnishings is debatable. . We didn't book half board, the prices to dine at the hotel are exorbitantly high and certainly not worth the money. Unfortunately there is no option to dine a la carte. A big drawback! The breakfast buffet is ok, but not outstanding for a 4*s hotel. The service is uncoordinated, haphazard and there was neither a good morning nor a friendly smile... The wellness area - well, there is a need for action. Towels, soap, water, tea should be replenished regularly. The staff did not inspect the sauna areas. Let alone paying attention to cleanliness, especially in the toilets. The sauna area is advertised with textiles everywhere, except in the saunas themselves. Uh, I don't want to come out of the sauna and get dressed straight away... the nude area is basically non-existent. That's no fun. Please check the loungers and their cushions regularly to ensure they are functioning properly and the cushions are clean. Nobody wants old, greasy cushions and pillows... and before the lights go out in the sauna, at 9:45 p.m., please check beforehand whether there are any people in it Guests are...

I really liked the service and wellness offerings. However, the rooms are very noisy. I found that unpleasant and disturbing. I could hear the conversations in the next room and only sleep when the neighboring rooms also quieted down. Unfortunately, this sometimes only happened well after midnight. The evening menu didn't always have a completely vegetarian option, which is what I would have expected at a wellness hotel.

+ Service and rooms okay. A very nice lady at the reception radiates warmth! Bravo. For the rest: friendly MA. Unfortunately the beds were worn out. We had a tea maker and a refrigerator. We also had a balcony! - Choice of food wasn't for us, I still got my children's spaghetti, bravo! :) ++ We really liked the sauna, swimming pools and Hatha yoga course. I can highly recommend yoga. + Due to the location, hiking tours are suitable; these are signposted or you can use an outdoor app. - Only in Vöhl is there a supermarket for everyday items. There are one or two restaurants in Vöhl, but not that recommended and extremely overpriced. -> A visit to Edersee, Korbach or the castle is recommended. :D

If there is something to complain about then it is the long time between the 4 courses at dinner, up to 2 hours with children is simply too long! Then the drinks that aren’t charged aren’t necessarily helpful either 😉 Everything else is great and highly recommended! We'll definitely come back.

We have been coming regularly for 15 years, most recently under the leadership of Ms. Freund. Now after three years we were there again for 5 nights. Rooms are getting older and older. Noticeably too few staff, so that many things that used to be standard no longer exist (service savings area, scope and type of applications). Room 417 had some minor damage or missing functions. Unfortunately, the personal and warm spirit of the Freund family and the staff at the time are completely missing. The outside saunas didn't work and were significantly cooler. It is unclear whether it is defective or reduced operation for cost reasons. In the Sals/Saline sauna, the salt stones above the heat source were missing. Exception: the food. We had the menu 5 times and were really excited! Unfortunately, like almost every hotel, the hotel has too many radio stations in the hotel and too high a radiation load, which makes most people happy without knowing their effect. The result is no real relaxation, lots of people constantly looking at their cell phones and harming themselves and others. Brave new world. We will take another look, but expect an increase again.

We went to the hotel for the day spa, including breakfast. The breakfast was fantastic and left nothing to be desired. Then we went to the spa. This is also nice and clean and we felt comfortable. The saunas are also very nice. However, there are a few small drawbacks. 10 euros for a borrowed bathrobe is quite a lot. The indoor pool is supposed to be 30 degrees, that may be true, but we think it's not enough for a spa. If you don't move, it will quickly get cold. I don't even want to talk about the much cooler all-season outdoor pool. Especially since there is no whirlpool for people like us who just want to lounge in the warm water in the spa and don't want to do any laps. What was really unpleasant was that the bar was closed. According to house guests, it wasn't just on that day either. So you had to walk through the entire hotel for a coffee and then sit in your bathrobe in the normal hotel restaurant among fully clothed dining guests. This is more than unworthy of a 4-star superior hotel, and I think there should be enough other solutions despite the lack of staff. Basically it was a successful day with a few blemishes.

We wanted to redeem a 200 euro voucher that we bought from the friend family at the time, but unfortunately this voucher was no longer accepted! This is of course very customer-unfriendly for such a well-known hotel! The employee on the phone politely pointed out to me that she was only passing on management's instructions and that unfortunately she couldn't do anything else. Very very disappointing...

I stayed with my granddaughters (7+10) for 2 nights. At the beginning of September at the Hotel Freund and we are completely thrilled. The receptionist welcomed us very friendly. The family room was a highlight, the sleeping accommodations were separated by a sliding door, separate shower and toilet, refrigerator, safe, huge balcony with a great view, lots of towels, bathrobes, spotlessly clean. A 20-minute massage per person was included. The 3 massages could easily be combined for me because the children didn't want a massage, so I spent a whole hour with Dr. Chang got it, which was great. The indoor pool could be used until 10 p.m., so we were able to have a lot of fun in it after the good evening buffet. Breakfast buffet varied, something for everyone. Very friendly staff. We booked a horse ride after breakfast on both days. The riding stable owner, Ms. Eckel, provided us with exactly the right horses for a fantastic ride into the terrain, just the 3 of us plus the riding instructor. The children were thrilled. Thanks to the sunny weather, we were also able to make extensive use of the outdoor pool. Another highlight was the bird of prey free flight show in the wildlife park at Edersee, about 30 minutes from the hotel. Good parking options at the hotel. The children immediately wanted to extend their stay.

A good hotel, but unfortunately the service, communication, facilities and cuisine did not meet the expectations suggested by the pictures and price. Beautifully landscaped.

Great rooms, very large, the service is very good and always there for you because the place is very quiet, hardly any cars drive there.

The hotel in Oberorke is very nicely located, but is already a bit old, which you notice, for example, when you want to go out onto the terrace. The terrace door doesn't open well. The staff is very nice, but makes a lot of mistakes. Room service also leaves a lot to be desired. The swimming pool and sauna area are not cleaned properly. Everything is great. The kitchen could be better. The exterior facade has a lot of wood, and you can tell that it hasn't been painted in a long time. All in all, if the kitchen was improved and some things were repaired and painted this would be a top hotel

Nice hotel in a quiet location, unfortunately not handicapped accessible, there are elevators, but unfortunately they don't lead to the rooms or the spa or pool, you have to walk up stairs. The dinner took some getting used to. This hotel doesn't deserve 4 stars, at most 3. We won't be coming back

Very nice hotel in Oberorke with its own riding stable, a very large spa area with 6 saunas, swimming pool and an additional heated pool. The whole thing is located in a large, lovingly designed complex. Our half board included an excellent breakfast buffet and the 4 course menu was very tasty. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the only small drawback was the sometimes very poor internet. From here you can go on beautiful hikes or bike rides.

Quiet hotel and delicious food. Booked 4 days up and away + massages. 3 nights arrival and departure days makes 4. Okay, but then asking for another €25 for the sauna on the 4th day isn't that great. My massages were scheduled for the day of departure, at breakfast time and check out time. Wonderful relaxation and pure stress. There are thermal baths that are 200x better and cost less, which is why they only get 1 star. Top Wellness 2023? I can't see anything. Infusions only worked very rarely or not at all. You simply expect more. Receptionist doesn't make any effort to please guests. Just taking more money out of your pocket. There will never be 1000x better hotels for that money again. I said goodbye and the lady just said goodbye.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed with our stay at the Hotel Freund. We were looking forward to a relaxing weekend in a spa hotel and were prepared to pay a correspondingly high price for it. But unfortunately our expectations were not met. Overall, the hotel looks very old, and the rooms are by no means of the standard that you would expect from a 4-star hotel - more like a 2-star level. The cleanliness also left a lot to be desired (see photos). When we arrived we found an empty jam jar on the balcony, which indicates that it had been superficially cleaned. I don't want to blame the cleaners here as they probably have a lot of rooms to finish in a short period of time. If this is the case, the hotel should invest in more staff to ensure quality. The restaurant was also a disappointment. Most of the food was frozen food, which is absolutely unacceptable for a hotel in this price range. We don't have overly high standards, but at this price the food should be freshly prepared. We can get reheated frozen food at home much cheaper. Unfortunately, the quality of the rooms and the disappointing restaurant led to a very bad atmosphere during our stay. Unfortunately, the weekend that was supposed to be a place to relax was ruined. Ultimately we felt more comfortable at home than in this hotel. In summary, the hotel is way overpriced for what it offers - I wouldn't even pay half the price for it. The only plus point is the hotel's idyllic location. Unfortunately, that won't motivate us to come back.

Positive: We were at Hotel Freund for the second time and once again had an incredibly great time! - the staff does a great job and is very friendly (big praise to the ladies in service!) - the food, whether breakfast or dinner, is always great. I love the pancakes in the morning with vanilla sauce and applesauce and the fresh baguette in the evening (big compliments to the kitchen!) The selection in the evening is also very good and very tasty. We therefore always take half board. - the spa area is very large and the saunas are nice and hot. When you lie in the sun at the outdoor pool, your mind catapults you to the south - Everything is green all around - you can go on great bike tours and hikes - the drink prices are a little higher, but OK - lots of free parking spaces - very comfortable beds and pillows - Free water and tea in the spa area, very dog-friendly (restaurant area for dogs, paw station, many dog ​​walking options in front of the house) Negative: Now that's complaining at a high level, because the positive aspects far outweigh the negatives! - the indoor pool could be a little cleaner - I would like to see paper waste reduced for things like a TV guide or the daily morning post. There are definitely more sustainable solutions these days!

The two of us spent 2 nights here over the weekend in a double room (Classic) and were mostly very enthusiastic about the hotel. Our room was exceptionally spacious and tastefully decorated and very clean. The balcony was also big enough for 2. Only the bathroom with shower was very small, but still offered a surprising amount of storage space for cosmetics and towels. The spa area offers a lot of variety with various saunas, indoor and outdoor pools. There are a lot of loungers available everywhere, so you can still find enough free places even in the afternoon. The outdoor pool was very pleasantly heated. We had booked half board and were overall very satisfied with the selection and quality of the food at the respective buffets. However, you should know that dinner costs €49 and the buffet selection is rather limited - although of very high quality. Unfortunately, we find some of the drinks prices to be borderline, which leads to a star deduction. There are only a few open wines where each glass costs €10.50, as does an aperitif such as Aperol Spritz or Hugo at €10.80 each. I'm definitely not a savings bank face and I'm happy to spend 8 euros on a glass of wine with dinner when I'm on holiday, but such exorbitant prices don't meet with acceptance for me. The prices for draft beer (there are different types such as country beer), however, were almost cheap in comparison. Overall, we had a wonderful wellness weekend in a hotel that left nothing to be desired and offered all-round good service. The staff everywhere was also very friendly. We would recommend the hotel and come back!

Stayed at the Hotel Freund for 3 nights over Pentecost, we arrived 2 hours early, there was a young woman at the reception. The welcome was anything but friendly, we then drove to Frankenberg. The second attempt was greeted by a competent woman. Top welcome. Room (classic room) great mattresses super hard!!spacious new furniture. Indoor pool is a good size, if the hotel is busy there are not enough loungers, the outdoor pool is great and there are a lot of loungers outside. Bad indoor saunas (right next to the indoor pool) no relaxation because of the noise from the indoor pool. Outdoor sauna is great!!! Breakfast is always good and sufficient, but I only know Seco on Sundays and Mondays differently from 3 star plus hotels and always Seco. Evening buffet, soups great, starter buffet 3 stars mediocre, main course buffet Saturday ok, Sunday also ok, but Monday everything was empty too early, replenishment with a lot of delay. Dessert buffet on Saturday was great with lots of cream, Sunday yogurt in a glass with 2 pistachios sweet colored Schäuble, Monday the shot chocolate putting in a glass like diarrhea, lemon cream tasted good but consistency also diarrhea. Service staff mainly Korean or something like that incompetent very poorly trained white wine spritzer large order 0.2 get bill 9.40 euros 3/4 water 1/4 wine.

We spent a few days at the Hotel Freund and were really positively surprised after reading some negative reviews here on Google. Per: - varied buffet (also for vegetarians) - beautiful and quiet surroundings, but you're lost without a car - very clean hotel - fantastic spa!!! (here you can really relax and switch off) - Bathrobe and sauna towels available in the room - large rooms (with large balcony) - Service in the restaurant was very nice Cons: - Cocktails are expensive - Service didn't really "introduce" us when we checked in... we looked at everything ourselves and found out where what was - uncomfortable bed We would love to come back here to switch off and relax!

The hotel is really great and you are in the middle of the countryside! The perfect little wellness break. There are 4 saunas (one of which is “only” about 55°), a steam bath, a laconium and indoor and outdoor pools. Our highlight was the diving pool, which was designed like a small pond. We only discovered the “Ruhe&Zeit” room on the last day, otherwise we would have been there to read from the start. That carpet there is simply unique and the loungers are so comfortable! The food was also a highlight. There was a really good buffet both in the morning and in the evening with a huge selection and even as a vegetarian you won't miss out here. We had a classic room; which had everything you needed. It may not have been the most modern equipment, but we felt comfortable. You can also book riding lessons at your own stud farm. You first ride through the hall and get a bit of instruction on the basics, then you can ride out as a group. If you are already fitter on the horse, you can ride out earlier. The groups are sorted according to “ability”. Was really nice at the hotel friend!

Ideally, this is a destination to relax. The rooms are very friendly and dog welcoming (we have two). Would definitely go there again but not for a weekend only....

Not recommended. The service was bad, we had to look for the sauna towels ourselves, and there were no sauna bags, even though they were announced. The buffet was unsuitable for vegetarians and there was no main course for vegetarians one evening. In addition, nothing was labeled and sometimes there was alcohol on the food unannounced. The drink prices are extremely high and there was an error on almost every one of our bills. The staff often couldn't speak German.

The house is clearly showing its age. The range and quality of the food were mediocre. The service is NOT to be described as such, one should rather speak of self-service. In detail: The room was large with a balcony and looked like it had been recently painted. Everything seemed carelessly thrown together. There were nails in the walls for three pictures, these had been painted over, but there wasn't a single picture hanging in the entire room, the walls were bare. The passage to the bathroom was closed with a glass door, which - for whatever reason - was painted on the inside in a shade of gray. The bathroom was equipped with a sink, toilet and a rounded shower. Every square centimeter was used here, it was tight. The shower enclosure was pretty run down. The cleanliness of the shower was poor. The seals in the bathroom were clearly no longer intact, and during my two-day stay a total of six silverfish were spotted and killed. In the dining room we eat in two shifts in the evening, from 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Unfortunately we had to wait more than 10 minutes on both days before we could order drinks. At breakfast we had to look for cutlery and sugar. In the afternoon we had to place our order inside the house on the terrace and pay there too, the cake and drinks were brought out. Conclusion: The supposedly “cheap” offer turned out to be a failure. The house did NOT meet the expectations of a hotel of this category.

The Hotel Freund back then was great. But now you can no longer recommend this hotel! I let you know in advance that I needed a room where no animals stayed overnight. According to the homepage, this is differentiated. At the reception I was told that there would be no such distinction. In my opinion, information in advance would have been necessary! But nothing like that happened. As an allergy sufferer, this is an imposition! Dinner was a disaster. Frozen vegetables, canned mushrooms. Everything just tasted like nothing! The service in the restaurant didn't speak any German. In the wellness area the towels were no longer refilled from the afternoon onwards. The piles of towels kept getting bigger. Nobody even went around there checking on everything. No service! The positive: clean rooms and a good breakfast. Luckily I only booked one night.

I've been to Hotel Freund a few times and was very satisfied. Unfortunately not this time. Increased prices for worse service, not so good food and friendliness that leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately it's a bit outdated and there's no effort to keep everything in good condition. It used to be highly recommended, but unfortunately not anymore.

Very nice rooms, great spa area and good breakfast!! Unfortunately I wasn't happy with the dinner. The hotel states that the kitchen caters for allergies. Although lactose intolerance was communicated very early on, I was able to find exactly 1 dish at the buffet. Very disappointing for the price.

We've eaten there several times. Very tasty every time. Two weeks ago we went there for coffee. The cake was very tasty and my fiancé's strawberry cup also looked very tasty. We sat outside and everything was beautifully planted. I can't say anything about the rooms yet. But we will stay there in August and take part in the barbecue. This is offered there every Friday. Either as a single price per person or for an overnight stay with half board. We will also be celebrating our wedding there at the beginning of June next year. This will then take place in the celebration barn. The personnel is very friendly and courteous. Update: we were there for 3 days. The room was very nice and clean. Bathroom clean and sufficient. Mattresses very comfortable and also the pillows. Have never slept so well in a hotel as I did there. Staff very friendly and accommodating. The bar is also really nice and the cocktails are really tasty. We had half board. Evening buffet was really great. Food very tasty and something for everyone. Breakfast top. Everything fresh. We are looking forward to celebrating our wedding there.

Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The SPA area is large and beautiful. Breakfast is standard. It is best to book wellness treatments 4 weeks in advance.

Now back home. The fifth time at the Hotel Freund and it was perfect as always. Every moment is a pleasure. No matter whether it's rooms, food or the beautiful spa and wellness area. It's always like a second home. Particularly worth mentioning is the friendliness of the service team. Above all, Ms. Blam and Achmed. We are already looking forward to July 5th.

The price-performance ratio is not right at all. Positive: Large room and bathroom. Nice large SPA area. Negative: Hotel service and in the restaurant very much in need of improvement. Eating in the daytime restaurant and in the evening at the buffet without any culinary taste; at most on the level of canteen food at a high price. The hotel does not correspond to a 4 star superior or first class hotel. Savings are being made everywhere. This hotel is no longer an option for us.

The room wasn't ready at 3 p.m. The room facing the courtyard is unbearable because of the noise from the kitchen ventilation, despite the window being closed. This runs all night long. The heating in the room cannot be regulated either. After the first night the room was changed. Now everything is OK.

Wir waren im Januar in dem Hotel, wo wir schon Stammgäste sind. Wir kennen es noch, als es noch ein Familienbetrieb war und waren immer sehr gerne dort. Leider wurden wir, wie andere Gäste auch, diesmal ziemlich enttäuscht. Es fing schon mit dem Check-in an. Normalerweise sind wir ein "Schön, dass Sie wieder da sind" oder "Hatten Sie eine gute Anreise" gewöhnt, diesmal aber: nichts. Ich würde nicht sagen, dass die Dame unhöflich war, aber eben nicht sehr Gast-zugewandt. Wir waren früh losgefahren und gegen Mittag da, da wir wussten, dass man schon in den Wellnessbereich kann, auch, wenn das Zimmer noch nicht fertig ist. Das Zimmer war auch noch nicht fertig (hatten wir ja mit gerechnet), aber auf die Frage, ob wir schon eine Saunatasche bekommen könnten, hieß es, nein, erst ab 14 Uhr. Da wir keine 2 Stunden im Restaurantbereich ausharren wollten, machten wir einen kurzen Ausflug und waren dann kurz vor 3 wieder da. Zu dem Zeitpunkt war auch die Chefin da, bot uns ein Willkommensgetränk an und begrüßte uns herzlich. Das Zimmer war aus der günstigsten Kategorie und gehört zu den eher altmodischen, aber das war uns bewusst, da wir das Hotel ja schon kennen. Erfreulicherweise war das Zimmer aber teilweise renoviert worden. Hartboden statt Teppich und ein frischer Anstrich (der leider von keinem Fachmann ausgeführt wurde, die Abschlüsse an den Ecken und der Decke waren mehr als unsauber gearbeitet) sowie neue Sessel und Gardinen. Bad und Zimmer sauber! Also starteten wir mit der Saunatasche in den Wellnessbereich. Die Auswahl an Saunen ist nach wie vor gut (90°, 80°, 70° und 50°). Leider hingen im Hotel bzw. im Wellnessbereich unterschiedliche Aufgusspläne aus, was zu Verwirrung führte, welche Düfte an dem Tag nun eingesetzt werden. Leider war die Frage irrelevant, da zwar ein Eimer in den Aufgusssaunen stand, aber jeweils ohne Aufgussmittel. Während des Tages wurde auch leider das Handtuch-Depot mit frischen Saunatüchern nicht wieder aufgefüllt, man musste also sehr auf sein eines achten.Mein Freund musste für neue Handtücher bis zur Rezeption = durch das gesamte Hotel laufen und bekam dann nur die eigentlich zu kleinen Duschhandtücher. Versorgt wird man im Wellnessbereich mit Wasser aus einer Zapfanlage, 2 Karaffen Edelsteinwasser (kann man machen, muss man aber nicht, da es allenfalls eine Bakterienschleuder ist, aber wenn einer dran glaubt, jedem Tierchen sein Pläsierchen) sowie ein Samowar mit Tee. Früher (d.h. noch im Sommer 23) gab es 5 oder 6 verschiedene Dosen mit Tee, diesmal gab es nur 2 Sorten und am nächsten Tag gar keine. Genauso wenig gab es leider auch am 2. Tag keine neuen Handtücher (erst am späten Nachmittag, wenn der Wellnesstag langsam rum geht) und auch keine Becher, weder für Wasser noch für Tee. Das ist ein Unding, da so die Saunen nicht wirklich nutzbar waren, da man dafür ja Handtücher, die groß genug sind, braucht und auch unbedingt die Möglichkeit haben muss, etwas zu trinken. Zudem fehlten schon vormittags in den Toiletten im Wellnessbereich Seife und Klopapier. Der Außenpool war erfreulicherweise gut geheizt, allerdings dann von 12-16 Uhr geschlossen? Das Frühstück ist nach wie vor gut und lecker mit viel Auswahl. Das Abendessen kannten wir bisher nur als Menu, diesmal gab es das nur als Buffett (wir hatten HP gebucht). Das Essen sehr lecker, aber am 2. Abend die vegetarische Variante einfallslos &dazu noch kalt geworden! Die Serviceleitung top, manche Hilfen unaufmerksam & überfordert, aber alle nett. Ich kann den überall vorherrschenden Personalmangel und die daraus resultierenden Nöte durchaus verstehen, aber es braucht dringend einen Verantwortlichen im Spabereich! Keine Getränke, Handtücher und Klopapier sind ein No Go! Es muss dringend eine Liste mit kleinen Reparaturen/Renovierungen abgearbeitet werden, sonst verliert das schnuckelige Wellnesshotel vollends den Anschluss an die Konkurrenz! Vor allem bei den Preisen, die mittlerweile aufgerufen werden. Da sollte z.B. ein kostenloser Mittagssnack wie anderenorts enthalten sein. Diesmal also mehr Stress als Erholung, schade!

Bevor das Hotel verkauft wurde war ich schon einmal zu Gast und muss nun feststellen das die Rezessionen die hier geschrieben wurden tatsächlich zu treffen. Ich war zwischen den Jahren 23/24 zu Gast mit meiner Freundin. In der Tat ist hier einiges was den 4* nicht mehr gerecht wird. Check in war ok, folgen Sie der gelben Linie, so hieß es vor 3 Jahren auch schon mal. Der Teppich ist in der Tat abgenutzt und der Weg zum Zimmer gleicht eher einem Irrgarten. Das Zimmer war ok, allerdings war der Fernseher so angebracht das man ihn nur von einem zweier Sitz sehen konnte. Vom Bett aus nicht möglich! Die Minibar war leer, auch am 2.Tag wurde er diesern aufgefüllt. Die kleine Mineralwasserflasche war wohl kostenlos wurde aber am 2. Tag nicht ersetzt. Frühstück war für meine Begriffe ok, obwohl es keine 4 Sterne Frühstück ist! Das Abendessen ist jeweils um 18 und 20 Uhr was man am Vortag anmelden muss. Die Auswahl des Büffet ist sehr dürftig und der Preis pro Person um die 49.- Euro Alles im allem enttäuschend, weil das was man dafür bekommt steht einfach nicht im Verhältnis. Im SPA Bereich war ich gar nicht, weil in dieser Etage ein derartiger Chlorgeruch einem den Atem nahm, meine Begleitung konnte diesen starken Chlorgeruch nicht nicht ertragen, also war dieser Bereich für uns nicht nutzbar. Schade aber dieses Haus hat an Qualität so abgenommen das ich nun keinen weiteren Aufenthalt mehr dort sein werde, da gibt es für fast 700 Euro 2 Personen 2 Tage glaube ich bessere Hotels die angeboten werden.

Als Stammgast bin ich jetzt enttäuscht, dass der Pool wesentlich zu kalt ist. Dadurch nicht nutzbar. Niemand ist im Wasser. Das muss sofort avgestellt werden.
