Otto's Burger - Grindelhof in Hamburg

We are burger lovers and we thought we were heading to Otto’s. Instead, the management has changed into “Rulf’s” and it’s honestly a shame they can sell such food and call it “burger”. I had a veggie one, the patty was thin like a fried zucchini slice, tasteless and to compensate the lack of taste they added a ton of sauce. The ranch sauce for the fries didn’t taste like ranch and ingredients were missing from the burger. Really not a place to go back to until they learn how to cook.

We waited a total of over an hour for our food after our order got "lost" during a server shift change. Although they offered a verbal apology, I still expected more—no discount, nothing at all. I don't think we'll be back.

Since we had already eaten at Otto's about three years ago and everything was great the last time, we were looking forward to a great burger, but were unfortunately very disappointed. The positives: the servers were very friendly, the waffle fries tasted great, and everything else was relatively quick. Now for the not-so-good part: the burger patty was cooked perfectly. The burger itself was bland and unfortunately very "sloppy." The homemade iced teas used to be super delicious, but now they taste like water with a bit of flavor. The price-performance ratio wasn't right for us anymore, as it used to be so great. We sat outside, and the benches and tables were so sticky and smeared with sauce residue that none of the staff even thought to wipe them down. It's just a shame; it used to be a great burger place.

One last visit to Otto's Burger on Grindel before the rebranding! The food was, as always, delicious and arrived very quickly. I was particularly struck by the consistently high quality: The fries and onion rings were perfectly crispy, and the burger was juicy and tasted simply amazing. Everything was truly top-notch, even if the price is quite high. Nevertheless, the visit is worth it, as the burgers are in a class of their own. I'm curious to see what happens under the new name, but this last visit was a fitting farewell to a small Hamburg original.

The burgers were great. The service was poor. The prices tended to be a bit high for my liking. What's really cheeky is that when you pay by card, they immediately suggest a 10% tip. That's just plain cheeky, especially given the poor service.

We had a wonderful meal here, with delicious burgers. As a vegetarian, I was thrilled that every burger was vegetarian and many were vegan! Delicious waffle fries and a friendly waitress. Highly recommended!

I had the Smash burger, which was incredible. I highly recommend it. The peanut butter and honey mayonnaise was also amazing. I opted for sweet potato fries, which were a great accompaniment.

Good but lacking in tangy pickles. Seems like a talented burger chef that’s given up. It’s cool everything is veggie unless you ask for beef.

I had the Oklahoma Smash burger, which was cooked well but not dry. My wife had the Otto burger, which was frankly dry. The Smash is definitely better. It's filled with sauce and has soft bread. Fries are advertised as extra. You also get to choose your toppings. I didn't like the burger on the kids' menu; it was a meatball sandwich and, frankly, a poor meatball. I wouldn't say it's the best burger I've ever had, but it's a tasty option.

Loved the plantbased menu! It also tasted good, the waiters were nice and the atmosphere was pretty good, only a little too crowded for the space to our taste :)

We came because of the good reviews and were surprised that the food wasn't very good. But I'll start with the positives: very friendly service, the food arrived reasonably quickly, free water as much as you want, and a nice atmosphere. The food was unfortunately a negative. I had a vegan chicken burger, and the patty was incredibly thin, so it was essentially just breading, like a greasy shoe sole. The sauce dripped out, but the bun was good. My husband had a beef patty. They asked if it was medium or well done. He ordered medium, and it was cooked all the way through. To be honest, how could it be medium when it's as thin as a McDonald's patty? The fries were average, quite few, and too expensive. The chipotle sauce was great and spicy. All in all, compared to so many burger competitors, it wasn't satisfactory, but just okay, and definitely too expensive.

Despite a NeoTaste voucher, we spent just under €20 for two. The food was truly subpar. The service is nothing to complain about. Everyone was nice, polite, and the food arrived quickly. But it wasn't up to the standard of a restaurant. Overall, though, it's a very cramped, compact basement where they serve bad burgers with no character. €14 for a standard burger without a side is simply disappointing. For that money, I'd rather stand in line at Burger Heros and order the Double Smash menu, and buy dessert with the remaining €3 I had left. €14 for just a burger with no side and okay service is only a one-time visit. Worth a visit for anyone with a €5 voucher if they want something understated.

Incredibly unfriendly (almost aggressive) service staff. Picked up a burger. It was supposed to take 10 minutes. Asked about it after 35 minutes. Response: "Cry quietly, bro!" Do you want your xxxx money back? We're a xxxxx burger shop." When I pointed out that I didn't want to be harassed, but just wanted my food, the man behind the bar became even more abusive. To spare my daughter further embarrassment, I dropped out of the "discussion." The colleague then laughed maliciously at me. Never experienced that before. Never again. Lost regular customers.

There is no better vegan/vegetarian burger than at Ottos Burger.

You have to pay for ketchup!? I still cannot believe you have to pay 1€ por ketchup or mayo in a burger place… I would probably understand that other sauces cost, but not these. The burger was ok in taste, quite small for the price. I paid 25€ for a burger, sweet potato fries, and a beer, with tip. Service was fast and the personnel kind.

They have a wide range of vegan burgers and best milkshakes. Vegan lovers must visit this chain of restaurants

I found the meat a bit dry, otherwise it was ok but it doesn't have to be back any time soon

I was there last week and it was very nice. Service, food etc! Today April 26, 25 at 5:00 p.m. I was there again and there were only 5 tables and the service employee wasn't outside for 10 minutes... Very slow etc! I'm gone again! Please be more attentive

We arrived at the restaurant shortly after 9 a.m. and were really looking forward to a burger at Otto's. Unfortunately, we were then told that the kitchen was already closed (?). I don't understand such a reasoning. Either it's open until regular hours, or they have to adjust their opening hours during the week...

I always think it's good and always plan it into my visit to Hamburg

I had high expectations for Otto’s Burger, but unfortunately, my visit fell short in several areas. The overall experience was underwhelming, and there’s definitely room for improvement across the board. Starting with the food: the burger arrived looking mashed and poorly assembled, which affected both presentation and texture. While the patty had potential, the overall execution made it difficult to enjoy. The sweet potato fries, which I was particularly looking forward to, were far too salty—overpowering any natural flavor they might have had. Service was another letdown. Staff were slow to respond, and it was difficult to get attention even when the restaurant wasn’t overly crowded. This lack of attentiveness took away from the overall dining experience. As for the atmosphere, it was fairly average—nothing particularly memorable or inviting. It had the casual burger joint vibe, but without much personality or comfort. Overall, Otto’s Burger didn’t live up to the hype. With improvements in food preparation, seasoning, and more responsive service, it could be a much better spot. For now, though, it’s a miss.

Food as always, service great, unfortunately we waited 25 minutes for a pickup. It can happen, but information in advance or an apology would have been appropriate.

The unfriendly staff I have ever experienced in a restaurant!!! The food was mediocre to bad. The portions are extremely small, but the prices are high. The fries were very bland and boring, the burger was mehhh. The waiters don't know thank you, welcome, please or goodbye. They didn't even say thank you for the tip. 0/10.

One of the best burger shops in Hamburg. Burger, location, team, everything is great! Great store! P.S. But there's still the matter of the rosemary fries. Rosemary, you are missed! Addendum: Fritz Kola has now been replaced by Coca Cola. Another minus point. What a shame! But the burgers are still very, very tasty!

We ate here today and found the food and service very mediocre. However, the restaurant is in a very nice and quiet area. You can certainly eat worse elsewhere, but we won't be coming back.

Otto's burgers are really great. Extremely tasty, all vegetarian in the basic version, but also available with meat. The fries were great, and the homemade lemonade was very refreshing!

Perfect place for a relaxing evening with friends! We absolutely loved Otto's Burger! I went there with friends and had a fantastic time. The atmosphere is cozy and modern, with a great mix of urban flair and Hamburg charm. The burgers? Simply heavenly! Each of us had a different burger, and we agreed that the quality of the ingredients and the perfect preparation were outstanding. The “cheeseburger” with the homemade brioche bun and the juicy meat was a particular highlight. We were also impressed by the vegetarian and vegan options - finally a burger shop that really offers something for everyone! The side dishes were also great. The crispy sweet potato fries with truffle mayo and the homemade lemonade topped it off. The service was also super friendly, attentive and fast, despite the store being busy. We really enjoyed being there and will definitely be back. Otto's Burger is a must for burger lovers in Hamburg!

I enjoyed my burger, the waffle fries are what Chick-fil-A dream of being - crispy and crunchy with the right amount of tender. The coleslaw was lovely. The tomato ketchup had a strong tomato paste flavor. I enjoyed my shandy, and when I needed it adjusted, they gladly obliged. The mint-ginger tea was nice but I'd consider it flavored water, not tea as the base flavor of water was strong Service was good and timely. I'd go back.

One word: DELICIOUS. Prices a bit high, but it’s so worth it. They are extremely fast with preparing orders and the staff is so lovely. I love going there!

I loved my burger and cocktails - spicy and delicious.. But sadly my friend was not a fan of their classic burger. He found it overcooked and chewy

The waiter comes and ask if everything is fine, I ask to confirm if the sauce I order is truly what I got, he sassily replies he doesn’t make them and walks away. So what’s the point of asking if everything is fine. Really killed the mood. Dogs are allowed!

Super nice atmosphere with seating inside and outside. The service was great. All burgers are generally vegetarian, but can be ordered with a meat patty at no extra charge. The lattice chips were great, as were the burgers. We had a burger with a meat patty and one with a vegetarian patty - both were delicious. :) Parking spaces are available nearby (with parking ticket).

Incredibly great! My very first visit and I know I will definitely come back. Incredibly great and delicious food (for me the best burger I've ever had). The prices are also reasonable for the quality you get. Service was very, very friendly and quick. So: I think I fancy the waitress 🤣🤣

The burger was extremely tight. The outside sitting area was very nice to sit in the sun with some friends and enjoy a beer. It was almost a five star experience, but I maybe would’ve preferred some more seasoning on the fries or at least for them to have offered extra seasoning And I know that I didn’t ask, but yeah is my review so whatever

A great Hamburg chain that basically offers its burgers as vegetarian options. The shop is beautifully located on Grindlhof and has plenty of seating outside and inside. To eat we had the very tasty Chikken César salad and the solid “Fly Like a River” burger. Which was good but didn't have that certain something. The waffle fries are great Delicious and crispy. The wine also tastes good. Atmosphere in The store is pleasant and cozy thanks to the dark ambience with the lights. Service was very friendly and great! Payment by card and cash possible.

Service was quick and friendly. They got a couple beer orders wrong but were a good sport about it. Burger was good but nothing groundbreaking. Their pouting was my star of the night though.

Small, nice burger joint with friendly young staff. People also ask whether the burgers should be made with real meat or a vegetarian version. Same for the chicken. We enjoyed it. Personally, I prefer the fries without salt. They were pretty heavily salted. But I didn't think to say that I wanted them without salt.
