Oswald Alte Liebe GmbH in Timmendorfer Strand

We went to the Oswald restaurant today and unfortunately the overall visit was rather disappointing. A table reservation (up to 6 people) is generally not possible, which is impractical - especially in a busy place like Timmendorfer Strand. The service didn't seem very professional: the waiters talked loudly among themselves, often using expressions like "Digga" or "Dude", which spoiled the overall impression. One of the waiters also smelled strongly of a very strong deodorant. We also noticed a few negative things in the kitchen: the chefs wore jeans and sneakers and listened to loud music that didn't fit with the ambience of the dining room. Unfortunately, it doesn't help if you constantly open and close the kitchen door. The taste of the pizza was okay - the edge was nice and crispy, but the tomato sauce was watery, which meant the base was completely soggy and the salami was unfortunately quite tasteless. Some of the dishes were also chipped and looked unkempt. Overall, the visit had more of the character of a leisure activity than a professionally run catering business. I'll also add a menu since it isn't available anywhere online. By the way, you can also pay with a credit card, but there is no information about this anywhere.

Modern decor, delicious food and good portions

Delicious pizza. But somehow the final visual icing on the cake was missing. Overall quite expensive, especially the drinks.

The four of us ate outside for coffee and cake. The restaurant was not particularly busy at the time, 2 other tables were occupied. The restaurant is centrally located in the pedestrian zone of Timmendorf. The outdoor area was separated and covered with glass panes, and it was also heated with radiant heaters - which was almost too warm during our visit with the high outside temperatures. Smoking is allowed in the restaurant's outdoor area, but unfortunately the smell of smoke accumulated through the glass panes and the roof and didn't seem to go away. The service seemed listless, but completed its tasks reliably. The cappuccino and latte macchiato served were okay, but not appropriate for the price. The cakes (pump cake and apple crumble cake) tasted like they came from the Rewe freezer shelf. The small Caesar salad consisted of 5 lettuce leaves, 2 small tomatoes, grated parmesan, dressing and a slice of bread, which was also a bit disappointing. We ended up paying almost €40 for 4 coffees, 2 pieces of cake and a very small Caesar salad. It's inexplicable to me where all the good reviews here come from, perhaps from earlier, better times. In its current state, in which it probably serves frozen products, this place is more reminiscent of a listlessly run tourist trap.

The food was okay and there is nothing to complain about. Otherwise you feel like a foreign body in this restaurant. What would you like to drink, what would you like to eat and how would you like to pay? Otherwise the customer service/customer contact is nil in this place. No need to repeat.

Very tasty, Italian to perfection. The buffalo mozzarella pizza was perfect and tasted amazing. The salmon was on point and the rosemary potatoes were perfect. For dessert we had homemade panna cotta and tiramisu! Indescribably delicious and more than reasonably priced. Happy again and recommended to everyone. Price performance absolutely right!

The three of us were there for lunch – and we absolutely loved it! The restaurant impresses with a modern, inviting atmosphere in which you immediately feel welcome. The service was very friendly, attentive and at the same time pleasantly unobtrusive. My personal highlight was the herring fillet “Hausfrauenstyle” – wonderfully tender, with a wonderfully seasoned sauce, simply delicious! My husband loved his juicy burger, and our son still raves about the freshly baked pizza bread. A great place for a relaxed family meal with really good food. We'll definitely be back!

I was in the house for the first time today. It's unbelievable what the chef conjures up in the kitchen... pure magic, it was so delicious. A restaurant that everyone who likes perfectly prepared food should go to. The service was great, not intrusive, but always at the table without being asked when needed. Gladly again at any time 👍🏼

"Oswald's old love" is really a little insider tip in Timmendorfer Strand! The food was delicious, you can simply taste that it was cooked with fresh ingredients and heart. The tarte flambée was particularly amazing! The atmosphere is really cozy and the staff is super friendly and attentive, you immediately feel at home. Whether you just want to drink something or eat properly, everything fits here. I'll definitely come back!

I was there today with my girlfriend and what can I say, just WOW! As soon as we entered we were warmly welcomed by the employees, really friendly and attentive. But the absolute highlight was the food, simply delicious and made with love. We felt comfortable and will definitely come back. Absolute recommendation!!!🥰🥰🥰

Absolute recommendation from me! We come here on every Timmendorf trip. Even when it was still called Oswald's Alte Liebe, it was a must to eat here on the first day. Even after the change of ownership and the renovation, everything is great. As always, the staff is on the ball and the menu is very appealing.

We ate there a few times on vacation. It really is incredibly delicious. The rump steak was spot on and my tagliatelle with salmon was simply divine. Guests' wishes are taken into account and the staff is very friendly. The outdoor area is beautifully designed. We will definitely come back

The Oswald Restaurant is a very special place for me! As soon as you enter, you can feel the warmth of the team - hospitality really comes to life here. The staff are not only attentive, but also radiate a warmth that makes the evening even better. And then the food - wow... Especially the pizza and the pasta are a real masterpiece, fresh ingredients and prepared with so much love that you can taste it in every bite. I always feel welcome and comfortable here. Dear friends of good food, the Oswald is your new temple. The chef knows how to surprise with great culinary art at fair prices. Be it the truly Italian pizza with a gentle tomato sauce, be it the carbonara with real bacon and according to the original recipe (no cream!), a gorgonzola sauce to die for or any kind of meat that gets full points for cooking and seasoning. In addition, a very friendly, busy and unobtrusive staff with an eye for the right moment and the great ambience... a place to enjoy and feel good. The new team since March 2025 has turned the dusty predecessor into a really great location. We'll definitely be back. 6 out of 5 points!

A short trip to Timmendorfer Strand. We ended up here in Oswald by chance. With a super friendly welcome, we immediately felt at home. The staff was super friendly and very attentive. A very nice atmosphere and incredibly delicious food. We would come here again at any time.

We had lunch here today (09/07/24) before the concert. Very nice, friendly and fast staff! Great ambience outside and the food was so delicious. The tagliatelle with salmon and spinach immediately impressed with its taste. The meat dish too. We'll definitely be back. “Oswald – old love” = terrific

Nice and cozy little restaurant. We were there for lunch and had a burger and the pork medallions. The meal was excellent. The service was also great. Very polite and accommodating. We were turned away at the door earlier without words, but instead with a shaking head. Later we heard “It’s too full”, but the guests in front of us were offered a place at the bar which we would have accepted at first. The blonde waiter just seemed negative and unmotivated. I strongly recommend training for the gentleman to learn how to greet and interact with guests. Service is something else. This restaurant is not recommended.

My husband and I have been there for a long time Were there every day for almost three weeks in 2018 and then in the years after that every now and then in the summer except for last year and also very late this year. First of all, the service. It's still great, so I give it full stars. The food has deteriorated a lot. My husband's burger didn't taste as great as usual and my shrimp pan had no taste apart from the salad dressing, which was very good. The ambience outside was much better before with the windbreak walls and the upper terrace.

Absolute recommendation! We didn't eat so well in any other restaurant during our vacation on Timmendorfer Strand. Unusual creations (pasta with pumpkin/gorgonzola sauce and prawns), great service and praise to the chef! We'll definitely be back!!!

If you are looking for price / performance you can only recommend the Oswald! The pasta is very tasty and great price. Portion size good. The service is quick and attentive. Technically good. Therefore 4 stars Ambience is not really my thing. It's significantly better than Filou but nothing spectacular. The heaters are practical and the blankets are comfortable. All around a good stay! If you are looking for an inexpensive way to eat on Timmendorfer Strand! I recommend it

Went there in the early evening and were lucky enough to get a seat on the outside terrace. Food was excellent, as was the service. Terrace invites you to linger. Staff super friendly and attentive.

update from October 14, 2024: Been there for the fifth time today. delicious. very attentive and friendly staff. gladly again. been there four times; last on July 23, 2021. The service is on point, very nice and attentive. All in all, a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant is also ideal for families with small children ("baby chairs" are available). The food was always excellent and really tasty. Quantity and quality match the price. The best thing, however, is that the bar serves Veltins and Grevensteiners. 😁 cheers

Were there 3 times during our vacation! Everything just fits here! Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff with that certain touch that makes you feel right at home and the food is consistently great! The menu is small, but that's a good thing and there's something for everyone! The portion size is always enough and the prices are reasonable! We'll definitely be back! Ps: the garlic bread is amazing 😋 Update 05/24: unfortunately there was a change of ownership. The map from back then no longer exists. Food is ok, but prices have skyrocketed. Completely new staff. All the charm of “old Oswald” is somehow gone. Actually it's not right to continue the name.

Spontaneous visit to Oswald on a Saturday evening at prime time. Admittedly a bit skeptical, as it's in a very prominent location (you'd be forgiven for guessing that it's a tourist nap). But nothing there! We got a very nice table outside. The service was quick and impeccable, the food (pasta and salad) came quickly, the portions were generous and it tasted excellent. The excellent house-style salad and raspberry dressing deserves special mention. I'll try to imitate this at home ;-). What I saw on other plates also looked extremely tasty and the other guests around me also all seemed satisfied. We'd love to come back, thank you very much!

We were there two evenings in a row. Very friendly and courteous service, the team there was always friendly and always willing to have fun. The food was very tasty, very tasty and eaten very quickly.

Unfortunately we were disappointed with our visit. If the drinks come after the meal, that says a lot about the dishes. And that's exactly how it was, the Bolognese came after what felt like 5 minutes so it wasn't freshly prepared. Tasteless and watery. The prices are only justified by the location and not for the quality of the food. It's a shame given the expensive prices. Unfortunately we don't recommend it.

The food was so delicious that I forgot to take a photo and it was already devoured. We had the burger and the penne gorgonzola. That's how it has to be. Nothing more can be said about it. But the cherry on top was the creme brulee. Not too sweet.. just perfect. I didn't want to eat the whole thing alone. And then I couldn't stop spooning. (Luckily there is a photo of this) The service is very friendly, very competent and knows what they are doing. Could hardly be done better. The Pinot Gris was also very tasty. We were completely satisfied and can wholeheartedly recommend this store. :) Thank you for the lovely experience. Keep it up :) ❤️ The location is of course more than perfect. Close to the beach, with a terrace and enough space to be by yourself. You have a nice time here. We also parked right around the corner. But maybe that was also luck 🤷🏽‍♀️😅

Horrifying!!!!!! After two years, this year we were back in Timmendorf on vacation like we have been for the last eight years. Whenever we stayed here, we visited the restaurant “Oswalds Alte Liebe” almost every evening and were always very enthusiastic about the food and the hospitality. This time we unfortunately had to realize that there was a change of ownership. We noticed this as soon as we entered the restaurant due to the waiter's impersonal and arrogant seating assignment. The menu has now been significantly reduced, which in itself should offer the possibility of preparing the lesser dishes in a reasonable and acceptable quality. We ordered four dishes and unfortunately they were prepared at the lowest canteen level. We will not eat at this restaurant again. There are excellent alternatives in Timmendorf where the food and service are worth the money. It's a shame, we mourn Oswald's old love...

We sat down for a quick lunch today. Our waiter was very attentive and looked after us very well. The food was very tasty and very plentiful. All in all, very satisfied and very comfortable. We'll definitely come back

Very tasty food and friendly staff.

We had lunch at Oswald. €15.90 for a salad (in the lunch special!) with a few scampis, I would have expected more for the price. My partner had a Caesars salad for €14.90, which wasn't much more filling. Since there was only a small piece of bread, we asked for extra bread. Each of us was only brought one more piece, not a bread basket or anything else, which you always get from the start elsewhere. The stalk was used in the salad and one leaf was already brown (see photos). The white wine tasted like apple juice. But the service was nice. And we could sit outside in the sun! (The ambience inside was ok... You could certainly do a lot more with it...) The big shock came with the bill: €55 for two people for lunch!!! The “apple juice wine” cost €8.90!!! A bottle of water (yes, WATER!) cost €8.40!! In Hamburg you can get a whole red curry dish, full of vegetables, for €9 (60 cents more than a water here). 55 € and neither of us were full. We will definitely not be coming back and would not recommend it.

We ate there twice during our vacation with four people. The food was very good, the staff was friendly. The prices are high, but you are in the middle of the tourist center.

The two of us had dinner in this restaurant in the evening and it was really delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and on a hot day we were lucky to find a shady spot. The staff was extremely attentive and prompt, which made the evening even more enjoyable. That's why we give it a full 5 stars. A small note: reservations are not possible here, but that wasn't a problem for us - we quickly got a place.

We've been coming to Oswald for almost a decade. Unfortunately, the restaurant has lost some of its charm over this time. There used to be a bar and an old tree on the outside terrace, which gave it a certain extra something. Unfortunately, these can no longer be found. The food (for us burgers with hard patties and a few fries) is unfortunately absolutely run of the mill for the price quoted. We also don't like the fact that the food appears at the table after just a few minutes, which has a certain check-in character. The only thing that remains positive is the service. We won't be coming back again.

We were there for lunch today. The two waiters were very friendly and attentive. We were informed about the selection of children's menus and were offered a high chair for our toddler right at the beginning. We enjoyed the food very much.

Hello, I had dinner there today with my wife and son. We both ordered the pan fish. As a starter they had bruschetta which was quite good for my wife, I had carpaccio. There was a lot of rocket and very little carpaccio, much better and more for the price. We ordered fried fish with fried potatoes. Oddly enough, it came with bacon, but there wasn't a word about it on the menu. When we asked the waiter about it he acted very smug, no. Word of sorry and said is written on it. I let him read it himself. Then he looked strange and let it go back. Was made again but this time small normal potatoes were cooked whole. Fried potatoes don't work without bacon. Apparently everything is pre-produced. The fried fish with 3 fillets turned out to be a complete failure. These 3 fillets were so small, unbelievable. Still €30 per portion. A total of €100 left there. Was maybe worth half. Never go there again. Are often in Timmendorf. Not again, there are a thousand times better ones.

Today we were at Oswald for the first time with our friends and the children. We were initially skeptical due to the very mixed reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and sufficient for everyone. This applies to both the Caesar salad from lunch and the burger. The price level corresponds to the location on the beach promenade. The service is particularly noteworthy. The staff were very nice to our children and fulfilled all special requests without hesitation. We can recommend the Oswald.

We have enjoyed coming here for several years, so far... Today we were there again: There is hardly any offer for children anymore. A significantly smaller menu. Prices increased very significantly while at the same time reducing the size on the plate. We had Oswald's Trio (I've had it more often in recent years). The quality of the food leaves little to be desired, only the quantity is a joke. Due to a lack of options, the children opted for the “original” Wiener Schnitzel. The animal could suffer a post-mortem. Completely fried with bone-hard breading. The whole thing is not a bargain at €26.90 and can be found much better in Timmendorf. The service was friendly as always, but the whole team seems to have changed.

Once upon a time there was Oswald's Alte Liebe... for 7 years it was THE restaurant in Timmendorf for my family! Friendly, almost family-like with attentive staff. Unfortunately, the “remake” only left a copy of it. Unfortunately, the reduced menu does not result in higher quality food. When told that the food should be gluten-free, the salad comes with bread and onions that have been sliced ​​thin. The staff seems overwhelmed and doesn't even show up at the table after the food has been handed over. It's a shame how “optimization” can backfire!
