Very tasty food, incredibly nice service and great ambience. In the summer it's nice to sit outside and there are enough parking spaces within walking distance. The prices are almost too cheap :-)

The lunch menu is highly recommended. It is incredibly tasty and has something for every taste. I really enjoy coming here. The waiter is always up for a laugh and a schnapps. If you want to experience real Asian cuisine for a very good price, this is the right place for you.

Ordinary Asian cuisine, tasteless and certainly not Thai. Although the staff is pleasant, they do not serve what you order. Not at all up to Thai or Laocian cuisine.

Absolute recommendation! When you read about a firework of flavors in some reviews, I often asked myself what that was supposed to be. You can definitely experience this at Orchid 👍👏🎆😋. The dishes are very tasty, whether curries, Laotian soup or the starter plate, taste like a feast or fireworks. The staff is very nice and quick, the atmosphere is very pleasant, thank you for that! Determination date September 27, 2023 Facts/reason for the complaint During the inspection, a pest infestation in the form of live and dead cockroaches as well as hygiene violations in the operating rooms were discovered. Dead cockroaches were found in the kitchen below the dishwasher, under the work table and behind the free-standing refrigerator. A live cockroach was spotted on the floor in the mobile saladette area. Due to the conditions found, there was a risk of food contamination. Again...

What speaks in favor of the restaurant is the phenomenal price-performance ratio: sweet and sour duck for just under €11, everything else at €9-10. Portions are filling and taste good. Not great, but it lacks spice and some subtlety here and there, but good enough to make you feel happy that you were there. Service is outstanding; The service is friendly and humorous and works quickly. We always knew we saw each other. I was also happy to dine at a Thai restaurant that wasn't decorated all over with kitschy statues. The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated. I would probably go somewhere else for a special meal. But for a relaxed lunch with friends, the orchid would definitely be the right choice.

We were there spontaneously on a Saturday evening and luckily got a spot. We let them know that we didn't have long and would get our food very quickly. It was very tasty and fresh, large portion at very fair prices. And the service was super friendly. We'd love to come back.

If Asian, then orchid! When I want to remember my travels in Southeast Asia with culinary delights in my heart and stomach, my husband and I always go to Orchid. Everything is just right here: the ambience, the extremely friendly boss and his staff, the menu as well as the taste and quality. Tried through Freiburg once and chose the Orchid as my local pub. The food is simply delicious, original and high quality. Regardless of whether we are in the mood for Thai, Laotian or Vietnamese, we will fully satisfy our taste buds in the orchid. The innkeeper always finds time for a few kind words and since I'm currently pregnant, he always brings me a few gummy bears for dessert with kind words. My parents are now regular customers too, which is why the four of us like to eat here again and again. Thumbs up!

The food was top and for me one of the best Thai dishes I have ever eaten. The boss himself was top. Very good mood, lots of humor and attentive. It was great to get to know this person. You had a look into the kitchen and could see that it was very clean. We were there on a Tuesday and had originally planned to go somewhere else the following day. After the first visit it was immediately clear that we would go again the following day. Please please stay like this! Since I travel a lot for work, see a lot and grew up in the catering industry myself, I only have one thing to say: One of the best places I've ever had the pleasure of visiting.

Wir haben unsere Weihnachtsfeier mit 13 Personen dort gefeiert, der Service war top, sehr freundliches Personal. Das Essen war einfach nur MEGA, von der Suppe, über Salat und Fingerfood zum Hauptgang war alles einfach nur richtig köstlich. Alle waren ganz begeistert, wir gehen auf jeden Fall wieder hin.

Best Asian in Freiburg! The food, ambience, host and team are excellent. The restaurants Chada Thai & Mai Garden have long been disproportionately expensive, and the Rose has unfortunately lost a lot of quality. The Orchid is in a prime location, with beautiful outdoor space/terrace and wonderful interior. I have traveled to many countries in Southeast Asia with my husband since 2007 and am very familiar with the cuisine. Here the selection of dishes, as well as the fresh, crunchy ingredients as well as the preparation and serving are like in Asia. If you sit at the counter, you can watch the preparation from there in the open kitchen. Everything is very hygienic here. The innkeeper's wife conjures up great dishes and the innkeeper is personable, humorous, very generous and, if he has time, as it is almost always full house here, he is happy to sit down at the table for a quick chat. Absolute regular restaurant for my family and my parents. No longer an insider tip.

Food was ok, quick preparation. However, the service wasn't very good, plates weren't cleared, there were only small drinks and you had to ask several times for more. The bill was wrong (pasta was charged twice).

Wir hatten das Vergnügen im Oktober 2023 dort gegessen zu haben und waren einfach begeistert. Durch die Bank weg sehr freundliche, schnelle und hilfsbereite Service-Mitarbeiter. Eine feine Speisekarte die nicht überfrachtet wirkt und lediglich 2 Rotweine und wenige Weißweine die dafür sowohl bei mir und meiner Frau absolut überzeugend waren. Der Weißwein gut gekühlt der Rotwein gut gewählt und mit wunderbarem Aroma für diese Preisklasse. Zu den Preisen später ohnehin mehr… das Essen (bei mir Nummer 7 mit Ente, bei meiner Frau Nummer 20 ) war absolut hervorragend. Der Reis gut klebend mit frischem klaren Aroma, das Gemüse im Essen absolut frisch, knackig bissest und mit den Gewürzen hervorragend abgestimmt. Frischer Fenchel zusammen mit frischem Thai-Basilikum, dazu wenig aber wunderbar aromatische Sauce und eine Ente die einfach nur perfekt geraten war. Nichts schwammiges oder fettiges, kross gebraten mit frischem Fleischgeschmack und da ich es extra scharf bestellt habe mit 2 frischen Vogelaugen Peperoni die frisch aufgeschnitten im Essen mit gekocht wurden. Ganz wunderbar. Auch das Essen meiner Frau war perfekt mit frischesten Zutaten und der Preis war in Anbetracht der gebotenen Qualität mega günstig. Die Einrichtung ist klar, die Tische sauber, wenig Klimbim und angenehm zum Sitzen im Innenbereich. Da es jahreszeitlich abends schon kühl ist, war der Aussenbereich geschlossen sah aber einladend aus. Ich wünsche den Inhabern und Mitarbeitern dass sie diese Liebe zum Essen und zum Job aufrechterhalten können und wir kommen gerne wieder vorbei, wenn uns die Wege mal wieder nach Freiburg führen. Aus meiner Sicht eine echte Empfehlung. Danke für den netten Abend dort.

As an Asian i say with confidence against all the euro-centric reviews here that the pad thai and curry I tasted are not authentic at all. Each dish was cooked to stereotypical "perfection". For example the pad thai was too oily, probably what people would think is authentic for a stir fry. Also it's hard to believe my pad thai was spicier than my red curry but it was

Ein Besuch in der Orchidee ist immer eine Freude, sehr leckeres Essen, schneller und freundlicher Service. Im Sommer ist es einfach herrlich in dem kleinen Vorgarten draußen zu sitzen. Mittlerweile haben wir uns schon gut durch die Speisekarte gegessen und es ist wirklich alles zu empfehlen, bzw. Für jeden Geschmack ist etwas dabei. Toller Laden und das Preis-leistungsverhältnis ist ebenfalls sehr gut. Wer asiatische Küche liebt, sollte mal in der Orchidee vorbeischauen!

Also leider kann ich das Restaurant nicht empfehlen. Das Essen schmeckt so übertrieben nach Glutamat und fertig pulver, dass mir der Appetit verging. Preise sind okay, Staff recht freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Ambiente ist echt schön, innen wie außen. Sehr schade, dass das Essen echt unterirdisch ist!

Der rote Curry mit Huhn war schmackhaft, hatte frisches, gutes Gemüse, war aber etwas versalzen. Portion eher klein. Aber bei einem Preis von EUR 7 kann man nichts sagen. Freundliches Personal. Schönes Lokal. Toiletten sehr sauber und vollständig ausgestattet.

Ein Gehaimtipp, dieses kleine aber stylisch eingerichtete Restaurant ist für mich ein Geheimtipp. Ich kenne mich in Freiburg i.Br. nicht wirklich aus, habe aber bei unseren Besuchen schon einige vielversprechende Restaurants in der Stadt (über Mund-zu-Mund Propaganda) kennengelernt. In die Thai-Orchidee bin ich eines Tages einfach hineingegangen, ohne je vorher davon gehört zu haben. Einfach wegen der guten Lage und weil es von aussen so schön aussieht. Ich kenne viele gute asiatische Restaurants aus der Schweiz (Zürich, Basel). Die Thai-Orchidee in Freiburg werde ich aber in Erinnerung behalten, denn wir haben dort sehr gut und authentisch gegessen. Auch der Service war sehr angenehm und professionell freundlich. Besondere Empfehlung das laotische Menü Nr. 1.

Es gibt etliche asiattische Restaurants in Freiburg. Das Thai Orchidee gehöhrt definitiv zu den oberen 10%. Schon das Thai-(Isan)-Rose war ein Geheimtipp für leckere thailändische und vietnamesische Gerichte, welche immer frisch zubereitet waren. Das Thai Orchidee ist nicht nur moderner und schöner eingerichtet, auch die Küche setzt nochmals einen obendrauf. Wiederholungsgefahr 100%.

We loved the setting and the service was good albeit slow, maybe due to staff shortages. We had the appetizer platter for two (12.90 Euros), and then each ordered the same dish, a mix of vegetables with a little pineapple, with chicken. The main dish was terribly salty. Main dishes include rice, unlike in the San Francisco Bay Area where you have to pay extra. The manu didn't include the classic cashew chicken.

Waren schon öfters dort essen und wurden noch nie enttäuscht. Dieses Mal war es auch wieder so unfassbar köstlich, dass es einmal Zeit für eine Bewertung wurde. Das Essen ist mega lecker, frisch und allerfeinst zubereitet. Der Service ist unaufgeregt und sehr herzlich. Hier stimmt einfach alles. Preisleistung ist ebenfalls TOP. Ganz klare Empfehlung!!!

Ein von innen sehr modernes vietnamesisches / thailändisches Restaurant. Die Produkte sind frisch und lecker zubereitet. Einen Abzug gibt es, aber das ist Geschmacksache, dass die Saucen zum Teil sehr nach Fisch schmecken (ist wohl original in Thailand).

Unsere Gerichte waren sehr lecker, das Personal super freundlich - insgesamt ein tolles Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.

premier essai après avoir été déçue chez Rose et alors là, on s'est régalés ! A chaque fois que nous allions nous à Fribourg, on y dîne ou déjeune ou on emporte. Portions très correctes, goût authentique, joliment servi et on peut avoir épicé ou pas. Je recommande, c'est le meilleur Thaï de la ville, prix corrects et sans snobisme.

Etwas abseits, im Quartier Zähringer, befindet sich dieses ausgezeichnete Restaurant. Scheint neu renoviert und eingerichtet worden sein. Die Bedienung lebt die asiatische Gastfreundschaft und der Koch versteht sein Handwerk. Für mich ein Muss, wer die asiatische Küche liebt!!!! R. R.

My Linh und ihr Mann sind tolle Gastgeber. Meine Familie und ich hatten einen sehr leckeres Abendessen - authentische Thai-Vietnamesische Küche. Das Pärchen hat das Restaurant mit eigenen Händen renoviert... angenehme und moderne Atmosphäre. Gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis und sehr gute Cocktails (hier „Schlummis“ genannt).

Die Orchidee ist der Nachfolger der legendären "Thai Isan Rose". Nach aufwändiger Renovierung des Gastraumes und der sanitären Einrichtungen ist das Restaurant vor einigen Monaten neu eröffnet worden. Der sehr freundliche aufmerksame Service und die frisch zubereitenden Gerichte lassen den Besuch jedes mal zum Erlebnis werden. Besonders schön finde ich, dass beim Bestellen auch auf individuelle Wünsche eingegangen wird und auch gerne bei der Auswahl kompetente Hilfe gegeben wird. Für mich "der beste Thai" der Gegend.
