Oosten in Frankfurt am Main

I had reserved a table at Oosten for a business lunch with a larger group (reservations for groups of 8 or more can be made by email). The restaurant is beautifully situated at the old East Harbor, with a view of the Main River. The entire group praised the ambiance – modern yet cozy. Despite the restaurant being fully booked (during a trade fair), the service was quick and very friendly. Regarding the food: The menu is relatively short, but there's something for everyone. I would describe the cuisine as European, offering everything from braised ox cheeks to tuna steak to pumpkin gnocchi. The portions are generous; you'll definitely leave satisfied. I highly recommend it, especially in the summer. Perhaps one potential drawback for those with mobility issues: the restrooms are located in the basement and are not easily accessible for people with mobility problems.

We were unlucky and several steaks were raw. They were replaced, however, and were fine afterward. But nothing special either. The service was extremely friendly and attentive, with good tips.

We discovered the restaurant by chance, and it offers both outdoor and indoor seating. Since it was raining during our visit, we sat inside. The welcome was friendly, and we were shown to our seats. We were briefly forgotten, but that wasn't a problem—overall, the staff was very accommodating. The menu is attractively presented and offers a wide selection of international dishes, including vegan options, so we had no problem finding something to suit us. The food was truly delicious, and the latte macchiato was incredibly tasty. However, the prices are on the higher end. The restrooms in the basement are somewhat unusual. They are narrow and made of aluminum or stainless steel, which seems a bit out of place given the otherwise upscale ambiance of the restaurant. There's also a restroom attendant, which is rather unusual for a restaurant of this type. Overall, the restaurant is highly recommended, especially for the friendly staff, the delicious food, and the delicious latte macchiato.

Truly exceptionally friendly service!

I celebrated my birthday here with 17 people, and we were all thrilled. It's truly unusual to experience such outstanding service with so many guests. The entire team was very friendly and attentive ☺️

The prices are a bit higher, but the quality and service are absolutely top-notch. It's a very quiet location with a beautiful view – ideal for relaxing. Very good coffee and no sloppy coffee!

At Wasserhaus, I had to wait 20 minutes for a takeaway currywurst and fries. I only got curry sauce after requesting it. Only then did I notice that a 10% tip had apparently been preselected when paying. If it were just a mistake, everything would be fine, but all of this together is simply unprofessional.

We wanted to have something to eat here at 9:30 PM on a Saturday evening. Our order was more or less taken by a very arrogant and snooty-seeming waiter. Two minutes later, another waiter came and said the kitchen was already closed... Why didn't they just say that? The ambiance and location are actually really nice... but the service and friendliness are unfortunately lacking...

Atmosphere is great! Right next to the river, with a great view. Food is good, however I got a few fish bones, which always ruins the experience. The service has lots to improve, it is friendly, but extremely slow.

The food at this restaurant isn't particularly varied and probably not for those with a very large appetite, but the location is truly beautiful – with a fantastic view of the Main River. Unfortunately, the service from a female server wasn't quite as warm, even though she seemed experienced. On the other hand, the male server, who also spoke English, was very friendly and attentive – that definitely enhanced the experience. The view is definitely worth a visit! I think the prices are a bit high considering the food selection.

A Frankfurt institution right on the Main River. Correction: In the kiosk area, drinks are served from cans into disposable cups. It's a shame that restaurateurs still dare to do something like this in an environmentally friendly way these days. There are good, sustainable solutions available.

We sat inside, but unfortunately, the place wasn't particularly inviting. We only received cutlery after requesting it, and changes to the meal were handled with unnecessarily fuss. However, the food itself was excellent and truly delicious.

€4 for a 0.2 Coke and main courses starting at €24, with 5 out of 8 main courses over €30, is outrageous even by Frankfurt standards. The price level here is simply too high (and yes, even for Frankfurt).

A great place to start an evening in Frankfurt. A nice selection of food and drinks, attentive service, and a lovely ambiance. The view from the rooftop terrace is spectacular!

I really liked the atmosphere at Neu-Isenburg Central Station. Beautifully decorated and a perfect place to unwind. The service was very attentive and friendly. We were there half an hour after 5 p.m. and it was very quiet. The restrooms are black but clean. You can only pay by card here.

The ambiance on the Main River is excellent. The food and service are very good. The tuna steak and its side dishes are simply delicious and tasty. I would make a few minor reservations regarding the seating. For me, maneuvering the chair or bench to sit down or stand up was a bit awkward (as I have a walking disability). But it was a successful evening in a cozy atmosphere.

I spontaneously reserved a table with my dog ​​so I could hear the HR Symphony Orchestra from the terrace. I received a very warm welcome, and they took great care of me and my dog. The evening was fantastic – I definitely recommend it and the waiters were fantastic ;-)

Really good. We went to Oosten again, and it was very good. The service was outstanding and the food was excellent. We had a table reservation, which probably makes sense in good weather. Everything costs a bit more at Oosten, but given the quality and service, and of course the location, it's absolutely worth it. We'll be back.

Before the Europa Open Air concert began, we ate on the terrace overlooking the banks of the Main River. The food was appetizingly presented and simply delicious. Janne and her teammates, with their wit, effervescence, and humor, kept our table and the neighboring table in a great mood. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Oosten, and later the view over Frankfurt from the Skyline Bar.

The 3 stars because they've drastically raised their prices and there's not really a huge selection. Last year it was much more affordable. The food they offer tastes very good, though. Not for those on a tight budget. The seating also leaves a lot to be desired for this price range.

A very nice place to watch the sunset over Frankfurt from the rooftop terrace. The service is very pleasant and friendly, but unfortunately, the quality of the drinks doesn't quite live up to expectations. It was my first visit, but certainly not my last. The white wine spritzer was very cold, but it had a "weird" aftertaste, perhaps due to the ice cubes.

Oosten – Realwirtschaft am Main (Restaurant) – 3.5/5 Location: Great on the Main River with a skyline view. Cuisine: Antipasti vegetables served ice-cold; three prawns in olive oil with dried herbs – okay, but unspectacular; aioli feels like refined mayo. Main course "Steak & Fries": Steak cooked to perfection, fries simple frozen goods – average overall. Conclusion: A solid 3.5/5 for the food; the prime location saves it a bit, but nothing more. Oosten Rooftop – 6/5 The atmosphere and view are outstanding – a perfect spot for a sundowner, pure Frankfurt feeling. Everything is just right here.

Six of us went to Oosten for lunch and received a very friendly welcome. Since we were short on time, only two of us ordered food. The perhaps lower sales, which we expected, weren't noticeable; the service was very friendly and even brought our meals forward due to a lack of time. And the food was excellent; one of my favorite tomato sauces. We'll be back!

We were there in a large group for breakfast/brunch. After about 35 minutes, half of us had our food, the rest was forgotten and only noticed 30 minutes later, and it took another 20 minutes until we got it. Some of the food was so spicy that it was uneatable, but there was no mention of spicy on the menu (food was exchanged free of charge). A waitress offered everyone a cake/coffee or something similar of their choice at the end as compensation. We paid approximately €75 for breakfast for two people.

Loved it. The receptionist was very friendly and funny despite it being a very busy evening. We waited for 15 mins since we didn't have reservations, but this was easily bridged with a short walk along the bank of the river. The waiter was equally friendly and helpful, despite being busy. He immediately helped a friend's dog with some water. The food - tuna, roast beef, etc - was excellent. So was the coffee. We loved the outdoor summer night along the river. Wonderful. PS: Parking was challenging. Our friend finally found a spot in the garage of a nearby hotel.

I went with my friend for my birthday. The blonde waitress was extremely rude, didn't even give us a napkin, told us to go to the restroom, and told us to get up and sit here. Furthermore, there was a hurricane from the wind, and we went inside because the umbrellas were blown away and dangerous. The same woman placed the same dirty drinks in them without even showing us to our table and left. The service was 0, and we were treated poorly. The food was good, but it was a complete mess. It was a disappointment because they treated us so badly that the blonde lady made it very uncomfortable. That's why I'm not recommending this place. It was delicious, but we couldn't enjoy it because of her attitude. She gave us the same dirty drinks she picked her place to sit in, even though she knew there was an extra situation because of the wind. And it was my birthday. I'm really disappointed, never go back to that place again.

A restaurant and beer house located on the riverside. The rooftop is for bar use only and the first floor is for dining. It is a bit pricey, but the atmosphere is good and the food is great. I recommend the lamb chop.

Unfortunately, something has changed (for the worse). We've been to this restaurant for brunch several times over the past few years and have always been very satisfied. Unfortunately, our visit last Sunday was a huge disappointment. We don't know if the management has changed, but the difference from before was clearly noticeable. The bread served was clearly old and not fresh (rubbery). We sent it back. The "Osteen" dish came with avocado, with most of the slices blackened – we returned this dish as well. Furthermore, the plate was poorly presented, with a jumble of ingredients and half-burnt potatoes. The "Continental" dish, which cost €20, wasn't even remotely worth the price: four thin slices of salami and ham, a bit of cheese of questionable quality – more supermarket discount store quality than mid-range brunch. Even the coffee, unfortunately, wasn't good – and that in a city like Frankfurt, where there are many cafés serving excellent coffee. The only positive thing? The pancakes – they were delicious, but served with very little fruit and a dollop of yogurt. It's a shame, because we really liked this place. But recently, the quality has dropped drastically, while the prices have risen. We hope this is just a temporary phase – but for now, we won't be returning.

Beautiful location, but the owners aren't fully exploiting their potential, and unfortunately, today (July 13, 2025) I had a gastronomic horror experience (see below). I haven't been to Oosten in a long time and was looking forward to a visit with friends; but what I saw was nothing but disappointing. The management doesn't seem to understand their work. The "Weingarten" on the ground floor doesn't deserve its name if you can't even order wine. Sweet cider with spritz wasn't available (what, no Sprite or Fanta there?!) And that in Frankfurt?! The decor was makeshift, lacking in charm, and right on the banks of the Main River. The chairs didn't even have cushions. It's self-service, card payments only (okay), and the tips are preset on the display. What's the use of tips when you're self-service? Just pay your staff at the self-service counter. I left a little cash in a paper cup as a tip. The restrooms were a horror cabinet. Dirty, no toilet paper, no soap, paper towels only in the front area. Later, we sat upstairs, and the €14 cocktails were more lame than trendy. Snacks were nonexistent. The female waitress with an English accent was very nice, though. The worst part, though, was: we witnessed a heated argument between two bartenders at the back of the "Weingarten." They stood face to face, shouting insults, and the black-haired bartender grabbed his colleague by the neck. After that, the argument shifted, and we couldn't see anything anymore. A few minutes later, we saw the black-haired bartender being enraged and apparently allowed to leave his workplace forever. He looked pissed off... Conclusion: great location on the banks of the Main, service unworthy, they could do much better! Oosten lost me as a customer.

We've known for years that the service at Oosten isn't optimal, as we've been going there for brunch on and off for a long time. The worsening of already poor service really doesn't have to happen. Today, four of us went there for brunch. The service was truly terrible. Regardless of what you were doing, you constantly had to get the waiters' attention. They would have preferred that you just sit, say nothing, and leave without eating or drinking. It starts with the reception, where you wait, even though there's only one person in charge and the terrace is half empty. Sitting at the table, we have to make ourselves known after about 15 minutes to order. And that's when the disaster begins: a full half hour until the drinks arrive. Of course, we had to ask at some point. Then, eventually, the food arrives. The poached eggs with fried potatoes: cold, of course (we ate them without saying anything). We ordered two apple juices, but only got one apple spritzer, and we noted this. At the end of the meal, we ordered two espressos, which were also forgotten and finally arrived after 15 minutes of repeated insistence. The same thing happened again for the bill: three times we asked for it. You just want to go out for a nice Sunday brunch and you leave in a bad mood and with your money wasted. The only pleasant thing at the end was to witness a waitress getting upset while talking to her colleague and pointing her hand at us several times. I hope it was to draw attention to us and the poor service, but I'm not entirely sure. A strange experience. Certainly the last one, because no one there will feel responsible anyway.

The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and the service was top-notch from start to finish. And the food? Easily some of the best I’ve had — every dish was delicious. Solid snack experience. This small snack bar pleasantly surprised me. The food was freshly prepared and tasted good – the sandwich in particular was delicious and filling. The selection is simple but sufficient for a quick snack. The service was friendly and efficient, which made the visit pleasant. Terrible service – rude and unprofessional waiter I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. There was a sign at the front, so I went in and politely asked if the restaurant was open to the public, in case it was hosting a private event. The waiter didn’t even answer the question properly or make us feel welcome. Instead, he rudely said, “No, we are just chilling here,” without offering any clarification. It seemed like the restaurant was open, but he couldn’t or wouldn’t explain whether it was only open for a private event or also to the public. He appeared unable to understand or respond to a simple question in basic English. The entire interaction made us feel unwelcome, as if he didn’t want us there at all. His attitude was extremely unprofessional and impolite. A restaurant should show basic courtesy and be able to communicate with potential guests. This experience was completely unacceptable.

The view is great, but you wait half an hour before you're served, and then another half hour before you can pay. The restrooms are a disaster!

We had a large group of around 35 people. A breakfast buffet was organized in advance, and drinks were brought by our personal waitress, "Shugi." The quality of the food was top-notch. The selection was also great. They even offered seconds of pancakes. We would especially like to mention "Shugi." She served us all alone, was really quick but always friendly, and didn't make any mistakes when taking our orders. That was truly an outstanding job! The ambiance was also great. It was hot, but that was due to the 35 degrees of sunshine. We also particularly liked the floral decorations. It would be nice to know where they came from. We would love to come back!

The Oosten is unique in its location. We've known this "real economy" since it opened. The varied breakfast is unparalleled, and the view of Frankfurt's skyline from the roof terrace is unique. I've even held a private family celebration there on the first floor, and the guests are still talking about it today. The changing evening menu: You can almost always find something you fancy. The regular service staff is extremely friendly. All in all, my absolute recommendation. We missed no other restaurant more during the lockdown than the Oosten. I would like to update my review because the Oosten has changed ownership. The quality hasn't suffered; there are more options; only the breakfast menu has been slightly shortened.
