Omars in Augsburg

Today, on the recommendation of friends, we ordered from Omar's for the first time (takeout due to COVID-19). We are absolutely thrilled! The dishes are prepared to a high standard, are authentic, and very deliciously seasoned – like an experienced Afghan grandmother would make :) The lamb was truly tender and well-cooked, perfectly paired with saffron rice, orange peel, and pistachios. My boyfriend is a fan of the Ashak dumplings, and I'm now a fan of Bolani dumplings. I will definitely order them again next time. The owner is very friendly. He gave us good advice and gave us a salad and dessert on top. Great food! A great addition to Augsburg. Addendum: I originally gave it 5 stars. Unfortunately, I later discovered that the prices were higher than stated on the menu. Each dish was simply rounded up. This shouldn't happen, so unfortunately, it's deducting two stars. (We also tipped.)

We personally weren't impressed by the food. This may be because it wasn't quite to our taste. The price/performance ratio wasn't quite right.

I ordered via Boxbote, but the delivery was unfortunately incomplete, which I could have easily remedied thanks to a follow-up delivery. However, the rice smelled very strongly of animal fat, probably goat, which I find unacceptable for a vegetarian order. I'd rather order Sangam in the future.

Great restaurant, nothing comparable in Augsburg! Thanks for the friendly service and the delicious food... it saved our evening!

Excellent! We ordered stuffed dumplings and marinated chicken fillet with rice there this evening and were delighted with the flavor and the special spices. The host was very nice and even gave us dessert. Highly recommended! We're already looking forward to the restaurants reopening so we can eat there!

We recently ordered here via delivery service because COVID-19 doesn't allow us to eat in. We had high expectations for the food, as the prices are quite high. Unfortunately, the food arrived half an hour late and cold... maybe not Omar's fault! But after opening the food boxes, it was a complete disappointment, even visually. After consuming eggplant swimming in grease and dry meat, the mood was not great. Only the okra was convincing. I hope we were just unlucky. However, the price-performance ratio wasn't right that evening. Sorry

We've now made it to Omar's Afghan Kitchen, next to the theater. For our appetizer, we shared "borani kadu" = braised pumpkin wedges with quark (=chakka) and naan bread. Yes, I realized again that I'm not a fan of cilantro 😑. The bread tasted like stale flatbread from a Turkish bakery. For the main course, we chose something we wanted: rice with saffron rice, almonds, pistachios, and orange peel (="Nerendj Palau") with three meatballs (="korma kofta") and one with eggplant goulash (= ("borani banajan"). I enjoyed my main course quite a bit, but my companion wasn't so keen on the spices in the meatballs. She also thought the minced meat was grilled/fried and not cooked in a sauce, and was therefore disappointed. The rice is served separately from the sauces. For the vegetarians 🌱: there are also sauces with pumpkin, eggplant, potatoes, okra, or spinach. There are also grilled specialties 🥩 on the menu. We'll try those next time. Unfortunately, the sauce dishes on the menu only use colloquial Afghan terms, so you don't know what they are. actually exist. The friendly waiter explains these without being asked. He was very nice overall, as if he'd just left "waiter school" 😆. He came to the table several times and asked if everything was okay and how we were enjoying our food. Since we were the only guests, there was time for a chat. He said the menu wasn't complete yet; some Afghan dishes, drinks, desserts, and teas would be added later, which is why there's no menu on the website. But I took the liberty of taking a photo of it outside beforehand ☺️. The ambience is clean, simple, and spacious, and apart from a few pictures, there's nothing Afghan/Oriental in the furnishings or decor. The separate adjoining room in the winter garden is decorated in white/light wood and we actually liked it even better. It's nice... that there's another Afghan/Persian restaurant in Augsburg with exactly this Persian rice.

Super freundliche und zuvorkommende Bedienung, das Essen ist einmalig und es herrscht ein tolles Ambiente. Gerne wieder!

Extrem leckeres Essen und hervorragender Service. Portionen dürften etwas größer sein. (typisch afganisch ist das Preis Leistungsverhältnis leider nicht). Trotzdem 5 Puntke weils einfach echt mega lecker ist und der junge Mann sehr zuvorkommend und herzlich bedient.

Aufmerksamer, höflicher Service. Geschmacklich hervorragend! Einen Stern Abzug gibt es für das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis. 16,60 Euro für eine normale Portion Reis, bei dem die laut Karte angekündigten Pistazien und Mandeln nur in homöopathischen Dosen vorhanden waren (also quasi gar nicht), plus eine Mini-Portion Soße mit 2 Würfelchen Fleisch plus eine Mini-Portion Salat sind leider absolut nicht angemessen.

War heute mit Freunden dort, SEHR lecker, Service und Chef aufmerksam und freundlich. Bewertung 7 von 5 möglichen Sternen. Werde sicher wieder kommen.
