OJIGI - Japanese Restaurant Mannheim in Mannheim

Very good food and a pleasant atmosphere. I was there three days in a row during Animagic 2023. Simply fantastic! Addendum: I also ate there at Animagic 2025, and it was still incredibly delicious. Here are a few photos from 2025, too. I highly recommend the restaurant; I always enjoy going there when I visit Mannheim!

Very very tasty food, exceptionally beautiful ambience

There were three of us here at 6 p.m. on a Wednesday. A lot of people arrived in the evening. A very nice and elegant restaurant. The food was very high quality and delicious. The starter for two, king and queen menus for two, and dessert for two were more than enough for three people. We will come here again. You immediately feel at home, and everyone was very polite and friendly. Truly professional. Thank you very much!

The "good" first: -The homemade drinks were delicious -My food was okay -The ambiance was quite nice. Now the bad: -The service. We had to wait 20 minutes for our reserved table and only got it because we asked the staff ourselves if one was available. Then we had to wait another 20 minutes for our order to be taken. The appetizers arrived after another 20 minutes. We had to wait over 2.5 hours for the main course. The empty glasses and dishes from the appetizer weren't cleared away until over an hour later, and that was only because we had to ask the waiter about it. We sat right in front of the counter, and the staff constantly walked past us but never tried to serve us. -The food. Some of it was okay, some of it absolutely not. Another person at my table had a chicken that wasn't cooked all the way through. Another person's beef was overcooked. It was tough as leather and very difficult, if not impossible, to chew or swallow. -The price. The price is definitely too high for the quality of the food and service. Even though it's in the city center, the price/performance ratio was and is unacceptable. Example: €5.50 for a 0.2L Coke. -The noise level. The music was too loud, which meant everyone in the restaurant had to talk very loudly, making it difficult to have a conversation. Perhaps they could turn the music down or install more sound absorbers so that you don't have to drown out everyone else in the restaurant to be able to talk to yourself at your own table. -Another person at my table saw a mouse in the restaurant. According to the waiter, this is normal in Mannheim and doesn't pose a hygiene problem. The waiter did buy us a round of drinks as an apology for the long wait, but that didn't make up for the wasted time.

Unfortunately, it was a very unpleasant visit for me. First, you come in. You wait a while until someone comes. Several employees walk past you and ignore you. The table was reserved for 8 p.m., but after a long wait, you were seated on a bench and given a completely broken and dirty menu. The entrance area smelled of garbage, sewage, or something like that. My mood was already at an all-time low. About 10 minutes later, we were seated at a table. So, we couldn't get to our table at the time of reservation! When we finally sat down at our table, we were surrounded by other tables (cafeteria atmosphere). The table layout was not as shown in the photos! Everything was extremely cramped and loud. The noise level was almost unbearable for me. The service also took an extremely long time. One waitress in particular stood out for her unfriendly manner. There was another waitress who was Asian. She was very friendly. The wait for the food was quite long (about 45 minutes for four sushi rolls), which was truly a challenge in this atmosphere. There was also a slight draft at my seat the entire time, which also contributed to the unpleasant feeling. There was also a mouse running around on the floor. I'm not sure if it was just lost or already lives in this restaurant. Perhaps it just wanted to stop by for a moment. I don't want to make any false assumptions. The sushi tasted quite good, but I've had better sushi in Mannheim for less money. There was also a bit less fish in and on the rolls than I'd expect. Especially for this price, it was shockingly small. Unfortunately, the sushi rolls weren't very well prepared either, as they easily collapsed when using chopsticks. This wasn't due to the customer's clumsiness. I've eaten a lot of sushi in Japan! Why so many customers in a Japanese restaurant have forks and knives on their tables remains a mystery to me. However, that seems to be standard equipment in this restaurant. In summary, the evening at this restaurant was truly unpleasant. I definitely won't be coming back. Afterwards, we ate our fill at a pide restaurant near the town hall, where service and quality are still important. PS: If you state on the first page of the menu that the cuisine is Japanese, maybe you should leave it at that. As a small example: summer rolls are a Vietnamese dish. The way they serve them at this restaurant, they call them Asian fusion cuisine.

The prices were a little on the higher side, but the food was just as delicious as it is in Japan. The interior of the restaurant has subdued lighting, creating a perfect atmosphere for a date. The female staff member was very attentive and kind throughout our meal, making for a pleasant dining experience.

We spontaneously visited this restaurant last night. We were simply thrilled by the service, the waitresses, and the food. It was a real pleasure to dine there. Thank you so much to the entire team for enchanting us. Many thanks from the piano table (the birthday table).

I found this restaurant while on my trip to mannheim and the place is just amazing..one of the best Asian summer rolls and coconut curry with tofu i ever had it.. must must go and check out their amazing taste

We had dinner on Saturday, July 19, 2025, and were all thrilled with the quality of the food. We've never had such good sushi, but the lamb, seafood curry, and ocean carpaccio were also simply fantastic. We're from Stuttgart, but we'll be back when the occasion warrants. The service and ambiance were also excellent.

The food was amazing. Awesome atmosphere and very nicely decorated. I can definitely recommend this place! The shabu shabu was really delicious and great to share with 2-3 people.

Excellent food. A bit too dark for me personally. The rest of the food was simply top-notch. The evening was marred by some very strange guests. The location, the staff, and the food were wonderful. We had sushi, which was excellent. For us personally, it was something completely new. Big compliments to the kitchen.

I called spontaneously about hotpot. Normally, you have to make a reservation the day before, but they arranged it so that I could have it on the same day. The hotpot was more than enough for two people. It was delicious, and the broth was also very good. The service was excellent, super friendly, and helpful. We'll be back and, above all, we'll be happy to serve it.☺️

I had sushi at Ojigi in Mannheim and it was absolutely outstanding. Each piece was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was calm and elegant, perfect for a relaxed dinner.

I went to this Japanese restaurant yesterday – and it was simply fantastic! The sushi was incredibly delicious and beautifully presented. I especially liked the non-alcoholic lemonade I ordered – super refreshing! The service was friendly and attentive, the food came quickly, and everything went smoothly. The atmosphere was really pleasant, and the restaurant's design is beautiful – stylish and with great attention to detail. I'd definitely love to come back!

I've been there several times now and am generally satisfied. It's a bit more expensive, but you get a correspondingly high quality. I'm deducting one star because the service has been a bit unfriendly and discouraging a few times, but otherwise, I highly recommend Ojigi.

Considering the relatively high prices, I would have preferred a bit more perfectionism. A heavily used menu that was not only impractical but also falling apart. The prospect of a falling-apart seating area in the passageway was a bit run-down. Drinks that didn't taste well-rounded. The food itself, however, was very tasty, creatively prepared, and well-seasoned. And, with the exception of the billing process, the service was friendly and attentive.

I went to this restaurant with my boyfriend yesterday for my birthday. He had made a reservation in advance by phone and mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday. The employee on the phone (presumably a Japanese waiter) was very friendly and even said with a cheerful "birthdayyy" that he would note it down. However, when we got there, they didn't even ask for our name, and unfortunately, there was no sign of a birthday greeting or a small gift. My boyfriend then asked the waiters in charge (who were probably not the same ones as on the phone), but they simply said that they don't do things like that here. It's a shame – especially in an upscale restaurant where you pay €140 for two people and a cocktail costs €14, you would have expected at least a simple "Congratulations" or a small token of appreciation. It's not about something grand, but about appreciation – especially when it was specifically mentioned beforehand. What made it even more disappointing: The restaurant was barely full, and there were about three waiters working – so there was no stress, no rush. My boyfriend even got up during the evening and personally reminded one of the waiters, who also served us the entire evening, that it was my birthday. So he definitely knew about it – and yet there was no "Happy birthday" or any other small gesture. There was simply no reaction at all. The food itself was truly delicious, very high quality, and top-notch in its flavor. Unfortunately, the service left a negative aftertaste in this regard and somewhat dampened the special atmosphere we had hoped for. In conclusion: Excellent food, but the service could have been better – especially when it came to handling special occasions.

Food was delicious, price-performance ratio was ok

Unfortunately, it wasn't a successful visit. The wait times were consistently far too long – from receiving the menu to the serving of the food. A real annoyance: There was bird droppings on the outside of my water bottle. The server wiped it away, but simply said it "wasn't in the water" – that was unprofessional. My order wasn't understood correctly either (I ordered medium water, received a classic), and the service generally seemed rather overwhelmed. The quality of the food was okay, but not convincing given the really high prices. The value for money just isn't there. Overall: not a place I would visit again.

My partner and I went out to eat with the expectation of high-quality sushi. Unfortunately, the sushi was just ordinary, like any other restaurant. The price is completely unjustified. €40 for 10 small sushi pieces with salmon... Furthermore, one of us didn't get our food until 25 minutes after the other had already been served, so we could all watch each other eat. The udon noodles were inedible, underseasoned, and the vegetables undercooked. The warm udon noodles were only half-decent. Overall: overpriced and not recommended...

Unfortunately, my visit to this restaurant was a disappointment. The prices are extremely high; if you really want to be full, you should expect to pay at least €100 per person. The sushi tasted nothing special, comparable to what you'd get at many other restaurants. What bothered me most was that my friend's food didn't arrive until 25 minutes after mine. I could have easily finished my portion several times in that time. Charging €40 for 10 pieces of sushi is pretty steep, especially when you're hungry and just want to eat well. Although the restaurant was recommended to me, it was my first and last visit. I think charging that much for a bit of decoration on your plate is simply excessive.

Not recommended! A real disappointment! Hair in the food, unfriendly management who don't complain about inedible dishes. Instead of an apology, they cheekily present you with the full bill.

Huge resto, sushi, grill, tapas Japanese cuisine in Mannheim since 2021, very nice resto in the passage and has also been delivered with Lieferando for about a week.

One simple word: excellent! I have never had such good sushi. The cooked dishes were delicious. The homemade drinks surprised us because they were delicious. The atmosphere in the room was very refined. For some, the dishes may seem expensive, but for the quality of food and service, it's worth it!

Now Cola 0.2 for €5.50 is usury!!! Chairs very dirty, general dust everywhere. Better go to a sushi place. The prices here are too expensive for seniors

As a family, we have been going to the restaurant regularly since it opened. It's my personal favorite. The service is excellent and you always get your ordered food very quickly. We haven't had a single time where we've asked ourselves where our food is. My personal favorite is the salmon tartare. I can really only recommend it as a starter. There wasn't anything else that I didn't like. In addition, the food is always beautifully presented. I actually don't have anything negative to say about it. The price is really worth it!

Chic modern restaurant, a little more expensive, the quality and taste of the food and drinks, but definitely worth it. But the service needs to be worked on. Despite the many service staff, you had to practically beg for attention, despite the fact that everyone had enough time to talk to each other, and it felt like there was no one who was specifically responsible for the area. Only the younger Japanese waiter was very attentive here. Maybe it was because people had the impression that I as an individual (tourist) didn't make that much sales, but you could have guessed the opposite when I placed my first order.

Beautiful shop and the food is extremely tasty, great quality, everything from sushi to medium-cooked duck is top notch. It's a little more expensive but justified.

We ate vegan on site with vegetables and tofu. Everything was freshly prepared with a slight spiciness. It was lunchtime and it was well attended. Since we ordered a starter, we didn't have to wait long for our main course. The price/performance ratio was also very, very humane. We paid around €40 for three courses with drinks. The service was quick, very satisfactory and very attentive. We felt very comfortable.

There were two of us there. I had ordered a starter plate for two people and a soup in advance. The soup was incredibly tasty... I can only recommend it! The appetizer platter was also quite good with lots of different things. My main course was the grill plate for one person. Visually very beautifully presented and also very good in taste. You could clearly taste the freshness and quality. Unfortunately we didn't like it. Was dessert for two people. It was beautifully prepared, but it's not just the eye that eats it. Unfortunately the taste wasn't to our liking. In summary: - Soup TOP! - Starter TOP! - Main course TOP! - Dessert is much better! Would definitely come again.

Whenever I'm in Mannheim, I can't miss a visit to this restaurant. The prices aren't exactly cheap, but you get top quality. The menu is innovative. The tuna steak on the hot stone is particularly recommended. Sushi is also super tasty. When ordering, please always be careful not to order too many starters. The portions are large and you can definitely share something. I've already experienced that too. There were three of us and we ordered a sushi platter for two people as a starter and then the tuna steak for the main course. That was too much. The appetizer platter was huge. It's better to order individual things as a starter and share them. This is just a tip. The service is good, but above all the ambience and quality of the food are convincing. This is really great. I'm always there when I'm in Mannheim. Try it yourself. It's worth it

The restaurant is nicely decorated, sometimes overly kitschy. We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary, unfortunately it didn't live up to our expectations. At first the waiter was very friendly, later he stopped caring about us. For the starter, the scallops were raw, not fried at all and therefore went back, which meant we couldn't eat the starters together. My husband didn't order mashed potatoes with the duck rice, but came back with mashed potatoes. The waiter apologized and said he would bring the rice straight away, which again took 5 minutes. So the main course is not together again. After that, no one cared about us anymore, no question about whether we wanted dessert or more drinks. So we wanted to pay, which took another 20 minutes. There were many young couples around us who ate so quickly that there was constant coming and going. When I made the reservation, I had asked for a nice table with justification, but it was uncomfortable. Someone had written "Ideal for a first date", perhaps if you wanted to brag about the high price. The food, on the 2nd attempt, was good, but not oh wow. And why mashed potatoes everywhere, it's not on the menu in Japan. We tried the restaurant, it was okay, but there will be no return

Wonderful sushi and more. Great restaurant.

New Year's Eve buffet for 100 euros per person. Music and drinks were promised. The drinks ultimately had to be paid for extra under flimsy explanations: “they had communicated this incorrectly”. The meal wasn't worth 38 euros. Every second-rate Chinese delivers such a buffet of comparable quality for a third of the asking price. We were there twice today: for the first and for the last time.

A restaurant where form and environment are more important than taste

Food was great everytime we went there. Even tho the stuff could be more friendly. Atmosphere is so beautiful and perfect for a date.

Very tasty food. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients. Very friendly and helpful staff. Except for the pictures hanging on the walls, we found the atmosphere inviting.

The service and restaurant management were very guest-oriented and accommodating. Questions about dishes and dietary regulations (halal, vegan, vegetarian) were answered confidently and taken seriously. The tuna steak was delicious and the dessert à a chef was also recommended. All this quality comes at a price, but it seems fair.

Top fine dining. Super tasty and great to look at. Very relaxed atmosphere. With relaxing music. Very clean toilets! The 3 hour layover flew by. I haven't had such a relaxed and delicious meal in a long time. TOP RECOMMENDATION!!!

A perfect evening! It was our first time here and we chose the menu created by the chef. From starter to dessert it was a great taste experience and a complete success. The drinks were great too! Also a super nice, attentive service - we will definitely come back!

The quality of the food was good and the taste was also very tasty, but the grill plate for 2 people was far too little for 99 euros. I was hoping for something different. My daughter's menu had 4 courses and each course tasted very good. As far as service is concerned, we expected something different in this price category. Far too few waitresses given the size of the restaurant. Our waitress wasn't attentive, she wasn't asked if anything else was wanted, I then had to tell her to clean the table, my daughter had to wait a long time for her drink, the waitresses were a bit stressed and short. Given the prices and the philosophy of life stated on the menu, I would have expected a little more. One waitress had very long, white-painted nails, which is not possible in the catering industry, at least in the upscale catering industry.

Had a team dinner here. The food was top notch and the service was also quite good. Specifically one of the staff Tamia was very sweet and she was friendly enough to converse in English and ready to help for our queries. Tldr: I was quite happy with the overall experience here.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for their anniversary. Food was very tasty BUT… a young waiter with braces was great, very nice and attentive, but between courses another waiter simply put his used cutlery from my friend's plate back on the table, saying he should use it for the next one Keep gear. I really wouldn't have expected that we wouldn't get any fresh cutlery in such an expensive restaurant 😳 not at all! If you leave dirty cutlery on a plate and the waiter takes the plate but puts the dirty cutlery back on the table 😳 that's really a no go! And secondly, what really disappointed us was that my friend wrote when we made the reservation that he would have liked to have our table beautifully decorated because it was a special day for us, and would also have liked to pay more for it, but unfortunately he didn't we didn't get anything and it was just ignored. So it's a shame because the food was really great, but because of these circumstances we're not going there anymore.

This place is exepensiv yes but, it is worth the price. The Sushi and Ice cream are divine. If you have cash to splash, it is certainly worth the visit. I would give it 3 Michelin stars if I could 😂

Ordered a plate of “a little bit of everything” for business. Starter was salted edamame. The main course was a 2.5m long wooden platter with three richly filled plates. From sushi, to fish fillet, at least 2 different types of steak, perfectly medium fried, baked oysters (not normally a fan, but they were awesome), to also tender lamb chops and giant prawns. It was plentiful and everything was incredibly tasty. Dessert was again three plates, mochi served on ice cubes, fresh fruit and lychee ice cream.
