When you walk up the stairs, you feel like you're at sea because the building is so crooked. Amazing! The food was very good, highly recommended.

A charming restaurant with a true Hamburg atmosphere. The somewhat quirky building itself is worth a visit. The food was incredibly good, and no one left a single scrap. There were four of us, including two vegans. We had roast pork with nuts, kale, and Labskaus (a traditional North German dish). The service was exceptionally friendly, and reservations are definitely necessary. I highly recommend this wonderful evening. Go and enjoy the fantastic food and atmosphere!

Great German food and lovely staff - recommende!

I had a fishburger, even the gluten-free version (without bread) was excellent. My wife had a dish with pork and spinach, I can't remember the name, but it was delicious except for the spinach part. The building itself is really steep, we even had trouble keeping my daughter in her wooden high chair, but it was a fun experience.

My first visit with a friend. We reserved a table in advance, which worked perfectly. The response was very friendly. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy. The staff is warm and welcoming, and everyone who works there, including those in the kitchen, is very friendly! The food is amazing! I had a warm Hamburger Rundstück (a type of open-faced sandwich). It was so delicious. It brought back memories of my childhood at Grandma's. Perfectly seasoned. The Rundstück was topped with mustard and sliced ​​pickles, as well as a generous amount of meat. Then it was smothered in gravy. Just right. Not too much, not too little. It came with braised potatoes and a fresh salad. There was so much food that I had to take a bite back. The quality of the ingredients was excellent. The Labskaus (a traditional North German dish) also looked delicious and tasted wonderful. Love is evident throughout the restaurant, and it's truly appreciated by the guests. Thank you for being there!

I visited again recently, this time due to a recent trip to Hamburg. The service was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, as was the homemade lemonade. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the food cools down very quickly, probably because the restaurant is quite small and gets cold rapidly as soon as the door is opened, especially due to the old windows. Despite this, a visit is an exceptional experience and definitely recommended!

Excellent food and a small but excellent menu. Everything was freshly prepared, tasted fantastic, and cooked to perfection. You can immediately tell that the food is prepared with love. Despite our somewhat limited time due to the theater afterwards, everything ran completely smoothly. We felt very comfortable and will definitely come back!

Truly great experience! Awesome food, fun service and staffing and stunning location. We had a dinner for 4. Location is a little tight and narrow due to the age but efficient and nothing wrong with sitting a little more close for a couple hours. Food is amazing we have had curly kale for appetizers with sausage and bacon. Main dish was “Braten auf Brötchen“(Hamburger Rundstück) also super delicious. The side salad was the best: have never had a curly kale salad and that delicious. All 4 of us loved it. Staffing is great, fun to talk to, a little nordish stubborn 😅🤣 It’s a 10 minute walk behind the Spiegel (magazine) building. Would recommend to walk there and park a little farther away. The building itself is stunning. Tilted to the side, it makes you feel weird being inside. They managed to keep the insides straight though, … not all but most… watch the video of the unbalanced table 😅 Come here you will love it and tell everyone a great restaurant story.

Iconic, a bit unusual. Reservations are a must. The service is incredibly friendly and the food is beautifully presented. Unconventional home-style cooking in a great atmosphere. Somewhere between fine dining and home cooking. Definitely not light fare. The flavor profile is more suited to people over 40.

This is a true culinary highlight in Hamburg, served in an authentic setting. We had kale with all the trimmings, and it tasted absolutely fantastic, just like my mother's cooking. I've never experienced such great service and a wonderful atmosphere anywhere else, and those three lovely hours will stay with me for a long time. Reservations are a must, as it's always very popular, and rightly so.

Absolutely fantastic! Rustic, full of character, and kale with everything Grandma used to make: hearty and robust. Less fuss, more deliciousness.

In a word: Delicious. The fish and chips and the kale were fantastic. I was lucky to get in without a reservation, although it was around 5 pm.

November 25th: 5*: Friday evening without a reservation and we actually got a table for an hour. The food was fantastic, and the highlight was the kale salad with pears and walnuts ❤️ Always highly recommended and a cult favorite for 100 years...

That's really weird! I wouldn't have guessed it, but the house is actually crooked; you sit at a 7-degree angle! Funny and very friendly service. Tip for next time: order the tasting portions.

A cult classic! The staff is a perfect fit for the canteen. The food is typical Hamburg fare. A must-visit when in town. A visit is definitely planned. Tip for train enthusiasts: you can get a great view of the approach to the main train station.

We went there spontaneously for lunch and although they were fully booked the made it work and gave us a table! Food was amazing! We had the Labskaus and a Knusterbrot! Fresh and very tasty! Atmosphere is very cozy! Definitely a must when in Hamburg!

Quaint, a classic. It still has that cult status from back when the trendy harbor town was still a long way off. The building is quite crooked from flooding, and so is the floor inside 😀 even with just one beer, you're still a bit wobbly. The structural engineer always comes after the flood. The last time was around 2021/2022. The kale was okay. Not exactly an experience that would make you want to go back again and again. Good beer selection. Small tables downstairs for a maximum of 4 people. Reservations recommended. The Oberhafen canteen also caters for parties of up to 25 people.

We happened to be passing by and spontaneously decided to go in, but unfortunately we couldn't get a table. The small, quaint canteen was very busy, but that's okay, we live in Hamburg and will reserve a table by phone soon. We're already looking forward to it.

Typical and emblematic restaurant of Hamburg 🇩🇪🍽️. You will discover traditional dishes, including the famous sausage and a burger inspired by the original recipe 🍔. The place is worth the detour: the house is so leaning that you almost lose your balance 😅! Local atmosphere, pleasant service, prices a little high but justified by the unique experience 👌.

It was great here... For the great service: It never rains in Hamburg! It's like liquid sunshine! And we have the most beautiful gray skies in the world in Hamburg!

You don't need alcohol to get swayed by the inclination; the location and ambiance are unique; the decor on the upper floor was definitely different in the dockworkers' days, and the warm hamburger bun, the mother of all burgers, is still there. A must-see.

Very good food (had a vegetarian option), but the service was mixed: One waiter was super friendly and accommodating, while another colleague made some 'funny' comments after I declined alcohol or asked to see the menu again to choose another drink. After I ordered a non-alcoholic wheat beer, there was another 'funny' comment ("And you needed a menu for that?!") – and all this in front of nine colleagues. There's still room for improvement.

What a great restaurant! North German "schnack" (slang) that you should be able to handle, but everything was very nice. The restaurant looks quaint and has very limited space. Advance reservations are recommended. We arrived without one and still got a table. The service is quick, and drinks and food are on the table in no time. The meal (3x Labskaus) and 3 half-boards cost €86. Therefore, not 5 stars. We found the prices a bit too high.

Very cool location!! Worth a visit. It's best to call ahead to reserve a table and make a reservation, though. The food looked great and arrived quickly, but the taste didn't completely blow me away. I prefer my food crispy...both the fried fish and the frikadella were a bit mushy.

Great and friendly service! We felt very comfortable. You can't get in here without a reservation. The food was very tasty, but the value for money (especially the portion size of the main courses) wasn't right. This needs to be improved. Otherwise, a clear recommendation!

You rarely experience such treatment of guests – but unfortunately, it was the case in this restaurant. I dropped by spontaneously and wanted to eat here for the first time, alone. There were no free tables on the ground floor, except for a tiny 50x50 cm table, which was right in the corner. From there, you had exactly two "views": one wall or the other wall. This was the exact table I was offered. When I asked for a seat at a free table – by the window, for 4-6 people – I was told it was a staff table. When I asked for a seat on the first floor, where there are several tables, I was told they were reserved. In short: either this 50x50 cm corner table or "can't help you." It wouldn't have taken me more than 30 minutes to eat anyway, and it was only 2:00 p.m. I suspect the reservations were meant for the evening. This kind of "hospitality" is, in my opinion, an absolute no-go. I don't think anyone in my situation would want to be treated like that. To me, it sounded like another way of saying, "You're not welcome here." So, good luck with that kind of hospitality and service in the restaurant business.

Small, cozy restaurant The glasses don't tip over

The ambiance is actually nice. Unfortunately, the food wasn't really filling. We also had to sit outside, even though we had a reservation. That shouldn't have happened.

Is the location unique...YES? Is it particularly recommended? No. It's just a crooked house, you can go there once, but are the prices necessary because of that? Probably a NO. I think the small menu is a bit of a shame, but the prices are pretty outrageous. However, the owner makes the best of it, he knows how to do it, and for that he deserves a thumbs up, he is a businessman through and through. Despite everything, I would recommend to anyone looking for something special in Hamburg to get on the ferry to the other side of the Landungsbrücken, grab something tasty and enjoy the view.

Pretty weird here... A traditional restaurant with good Hamburg cuisine. The small menu includes classics like Labskaus and herring, meatballs, fish, and burgers. Northern German beers fresh from the tap and traditional spirits at fair prices. Authentic service rounds out the evening. It's definitely worth trying.

How weird is that!? A unique location – crooked and lopsided – with the finest Labskaus and "Rundstück" (a kind of meat dish). Excellent service, who – at least during our visit – even transported food and drinks to the first floor without incident! A top-notch service!

On June 7, 2025, we had lunch at this quaint, small, and somewhat quirky restaurant. A quick tip in advance: Please make sure you reserve a table, as the restaurant doesn't have many. After a short walk from the subway, we could already see the Oberhafen-Kantine from afar. Upon arrival, we were first asked if we had reserved a table. We confirmed this and were shown to our table. The staff were super friendly and cheerful, despite the restaurant being full inside and out. For dinner, we had the Oberhafen-Kantine evening meal for two, with a variety of small dishes. The food was excellent, and I would order it again and again.

The location near the train station is a bit odd. But the staff is on the ball and extremely friendly. We had a delicious vegan meal.

Fast service and the Labskaus was top

Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the food! It was far too expensive, and the portions were small! The place is very special and quaint! They could do more with it!

I went home a little poorer but still very hungry. The slope apparently affects the prices but not the quality. The staff was good. Reservations are recommended.

The Oberhafenkantine is one of the last remaining "Kaffeeklappen" (coffee stalls) – 19th-century restaurants where dockworkers could get cheap coffee, food, and other non-alcoholic beverages. It's a "historic" establishment, which certainly contributes to the charm of this restaurant. The dining room is not only crooked and lopsided, but also extremely narrow – in a group, you literally sit shoulder to shoulder, and if someone wants to use the restroom – which is located outside – the whole group has to move out of the way. This "ambiance" certainly contributes to the charm of the Oberhafenkantine for many visitors, but it also means that you have little chance of getting a seat without a reservation. The food is Hamburg cuisine – here you'll find classics like Labskaus, etc. The food is very good, but the portions were unfortunately too small. The group had a pre-ordered menu with salads, Labskaus, roast pork, roast potatoes, fish, pearl barley, and red fruit compote. The dishes were very tasty, but seemed very limited. We had reserved for 11 people and ended up being a party of 9. There were exactly 11 slices of roast pork, and the roast potatoes and Labskaus weren't really all you could eat; you had to share to make sure everyone got a bite. Without the – admittedly really delicious – homemade bread, not everyone would have been satisfied. All in all, a recommendation for the rustic ambiance and delicious food – if you're willing to sit close together in crooked rooms, for which you have to make a reservation. The portions, however, could be larger.

Interesting place, but unfortunately, the staff was strange. Despite several free tables, we were told there was no room for the two of us—everything was reserved. After about a 45-minute stroll through the neighboring Oberhafen area, we passed by the restaurant again... about 80% of the tables were free. Absolutely not!

We had a reservation, and everything went smoothly. It wasn't busy, but you could tell the very friendly service was reaching its limits. The food was well presented, but there was far too little. The much-praised meatball was tiny and neither of us was cooked properly. The value for money here is absolutely terrible. As described in one review, it's not just a tourist trap. The prices don't match the portions, especially for the classics. It would be so easy to add a surcharge for an extra meatball to the menu. What a shame... we were really looking forward to it and were disappointed.

One wonders how long this building will last, as crooked as it is. You can sit inside and outside, but seating is limited, so it's best to make a reservation if you're planning on dining with a group. The prices aren't exactly cheap (e.g., fried fish with potato salad costs €22.50), but the quality is good.

The food was very well prepared and of good quality. The service was attentive and friendly. Unfortunately, no good beer, only the big-batch Dr. Oetker swill (Jever, Hovels, Allgäuer Brauhaus, M&O, etc.), hence only three stars. Unfortunately, the cheap beer doesn't match the otherwise excellent product quality at all.
