The food was very good, both the steak and the vegetarian feta. Overall, good and fast service. Highly recommended.

Very friendly and helpful staff and delicious food

Had a traditional meal, and since it was a side street away from the Alster, it was well located and quieter. The inn is interestingly old-fashioned, but decorated in a very cool way. The food was surprisingly good. Would go out to eat again. We paid around €55 for two people with a starter and drinks. But we were also well full.

Although the atmosphere is rustic, the sewer smell drowns out everything, the food is overpriced, the quality is not great, and the wine is not recommended!

The restaurant is very large and spacious. We had two lovely service staff who asked several times if everything was OK. While the two were busy, the barman also ventured out from behind the bar and spoke to people. I felt very comfortable. The food was very tasty and inexpensive. The furnishings are rather rustic and therefore create a nice atmosphere of a long-established inn. There is a large selection, especially for fish and meat lovers. The selection for vegetarians was also okay. All in all we had a great stay.

We were back in this nice inn today. A very open-minded waitress and great food again. Today the tribal food was fricassee with peas and asparagus with a choice of rice, potatoes or penne. We were back after a long time. A quaint, original restaurant right on the Alster, affectionately known as "Grandma's," located right next to the Europapassage. The menu is homely and the food is delicious. The beer is tasty, and the place invites you to linger. A small criticism of the food was initially taken lightly by the service, but after discussion, the solution wasn't entirely satisfactory. We will be back, nonetheless.

An absolute insider tip! Originally decorated shop with quick and really friendly service. We had a great time and heard a few Hamburg stories. Also probably one of the very few restaurants that still offer Labskaus (the really recommended one, don't be put off!!).

My German-born wife had called and booked a table a few days before. When we got there they just pointed to a table pushed into a corner without even greeting us. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to get the worst table if you book in advance. We didn't complain as we thought it would be full later. It didn't happen. We ordered ¨Sauerfleisch hausgemacht, mit Remouladensauce, dazu Bratkartoffeln". A dish we often and happily eat when we are in northern Germany. To lighten it all up, we ordered "Tomatensalat mit Zwiebeln und Schnittlauch". The portions were huge but the quality was low. The meat didn't taste much and was far too cold and compact. Almost hard to cut. The only positive was that the jelly was quite good. Normally it is good to have a little jelly on the Bratkatoffeln but not on this potato. Only the potato slices that were on top were soft. The tomato sauce was not good at all. The tomatoes that were covered in the pesto were not eaten . Now we just wanted to finish and go but we took home made Rote Grütze it was my birthday after all. Rote Grütze was the best of the whole meal, although my wife suspects that "hausgemacht" meant that they mixed ready-made Rote Grütze powder with frozen berries. It was a dinner we will remember for a long time, but unfortunately for the wrong reason. We visit northern Germany several times and Hamburg once a year but this is not a place we return to.

Simply our best meal in Hamburg. Fantastic menu, great beer and a nice whisky to finish. The creme of lobster soup was absolutely delicious. Thank you to all the staff who made sure that we had a lovely time. We'll be back for sure!

The dinner was delicious, but there were problems with the billing. I made a reservation for 28 people, but unfortunately my colleague couldn't have dinner with us. The restaurant billed for 28 people. That wasn't a good experience.

Was there on a Saturday without a reservation. I got a table from the friendly staff after a short wait. I had an onion soup as a starter and the grilled game platter as a main course, which is not on the menu. Stand on the exhibitor at the entrance. It was delicious and I would go there again to eat again another season.

We always enjoy coming here, nice restaurant in the middle of the city. Original furnishings made to look old. The service is very friendly, sometimes it takes a while to get something to eat... but it's not a bad thing. The food is "home-style" and if you want to eat something hearty in the city without having to take out a small loan, you've come to the right place.

Traditional German cuisine. The look is also traditional. Service smiling and helpful. It was my first time eating labskaus and I can really recommend it to this place. Wide selection of dishes and good German beers.

Very warm welcome and hearty meal

What can I write, we've been thrilled for years and have been going there once a month for years. The chef and crew are outstanding which means food is very good. There is weekly lunch and a special menu, in addition to the normal menu, the special menu is changed approximately every 4 weeks. But you also have to mention the condition: always, really always, nice and friendly, quick and quick and attentive, no matter how full the inn is, you hardly find anything like that these days. Just go, it's worth it. Reservations are really necessary, especially on weekends. Parking spaces available in the Europapassage, or use public transport.

Very tasty food at reasonable prices is available here. The ambience is also stylish and antique, which I liked. Our waitress was very friendly, quick and obviously well trained. The only thing that wasn't so pleasant was that there was a bit of a smell of sanitary facilities in the entire restaurant.

This is a typical German restaurant. The meat is delicious, and the fish, pasta, and potato dishes served on the side are also very delicious. Typically, the seats are a bit narrow.

The two of us spontaneously went to the “Gasthaus an der Alster” and didn’t have a reservation. First we were greeted unpleasantly by a waitress named Martina with the words “Everything is full, no chance, please get out again”. Such negative energy can ruin the whole evening. But luckily the wonderful Sarah came into play! She took care of us immediately and seated us at the bar. With a lot of kindness and commitment, she asked other guests to slide a little to make a little space for us. Your helpfulness and positive charisma really saved our evening! The food was also very tasty and Sarah looked after us excellently. Many thanks to them for the great service!

We were at the Gasthaus an der Alster on Saturday with a reservation at 5 p.m. with 10 people. The city center was the busiest I've ever seen it, and people were lining up at the inn. Of course the restaurant was full too! Nevertheless, the staff radiated such a pleasant calm and friendliness. As always, we were warmly welcomed. The drinks and the food came quickly and we enjoyed it. Every time we are so happy that we can stay seated for a long time after eating. Thank you very much for this lovely evening! Our colleague meeting will also take place next year in the Gasthaus an der Alster.

We were lucky to get a table, the attentive ladies from the service even fulfilled special requests when choosing the dishes despite the many guests, but 5 stars for that 😊 The food didn't blow us away, however: little taste/spice and average overall.

Our visit to the inn on the Alster wasn't particularly special. The service seemed overwhelmed and immediately annoyed when we had special requests. The food was also mixed. The meat was overcooked and lacked seasoning. We won't be coming back as we weren't happy with the evening overall.

My insider tip! If you want to eat very tasty, home-style food at acceptable prices and don't want to leave the table hungry, this is a perfect address! The team is always so nice and always tries to spontaneously find a place for two, even without a reservation. Unreservedly recommended. Anytime gladly!!!

We didn't make a reservation and barely got a table for two. Service was friendly, very quick and good. Food arrived on the table super quickly, indicating that it was all well prepared (or frozen). Ambience nice but not special. We would go again if we are nearby.

The waitresses were very friendly and they were able to quickly find us a place for two people, even without a reservation. Unfortunately, the zander and the Amrumer grill plate weren't that great. The fish were all fried very dry and the presentation on the plate was rather poor. However, other dishes looked much better. Grandma's dark beer was good and we would stop by again for the meat dishes and give the place a try. As of today, I really can't recommend the two fish dishes.

It was a great dinner. We were 4 adults and 3 children. The rump steak, the schnitzel and the knuckle were “on the point” and the food was at the table super quickly. The service was very friendly and attentive and we were there spontaneously without a reservation. Great - always happy. A great German restaurant with German cuisine and a great price-performance ratio in all areas.

Als ich mit meiner Frau vor etwa 15 Jahren dieses Lokal zufällig in Hamburg entdeckt habe, dachten wir, es sei ein echter Geheimtipp! Da es auch heute immer noch dort ist, ist das sicherlich nicht so. Auf jeden Fall gehört ein Besuch dort für uns zu jedem Hamburgbesuch, wie der Kiez, der Fischmarkt oder das Portugieserviertel. Während unseres viertägigen Aufenthalts in Deutschlands zweitgrößter Stadt waren wir dort zweimal zum Mittagessen eingekehrt. Die Speisen auf der Karte sind klassische, norddeutsche Küche gepaart mit einigen Schnitzel und Steakgerichten. Ich hatte den klassischen Seemannslabskaus und muss sagen, ich hatte noch nie einen besseren Teller! Nirgends! Beim zweiten Besuch wählte ich die klassische Grillhaxe vom Schwein und kann nur sagen, sie war perfekt zubereitet und kann sogar mit der beim "alten Fritz" in Rostock mithalten und allein das will schon was heißen. Das Personal arbeitet sehr zügig, ist freundlich und immer hilfsbereit. Das Ambiente ist an uriger Gemütlichkeit kaum zu übertreffen. Wer in diesem Lokal einkehrt, wird es sicherlich nicht bereuen. Versprochen!
