O Farol in Hamburg

Very good food, the atmosphere was okay, but it really deserves 6 stars. They have very good gluten-free options. They catered specifically to celiac disease, and we were extremely satisfied. We wanted to add dates wrapped in bacon to the dish, but were even informed that the deep fryer was also contaminated with other non-gluten-free foods.

So, about the ambiance... If you're expecting high-gloss and fancy, you'll be disappointed... if you appreciate delicious food, you'll be in good hands here... O Farol is always our first choice. And if we spontaneously go there and it's full, we'll switch to one of the other restaurants... but there's a reason we keep going back.

I was there with my girlfriend yesterday. A really nice, clean place, super friendly service, first-class advice, and the food (prawns) was absolutely delicious. The price is very reasonable. I went there with a walker, and it wasn't a problem at all. We will definitely be back. Thank you so much for everything.

Highly recommended. Fast service. We had tuna steak and chicken in a clay pot. Both were excellent. The atmosphere was loud but reminiscent of local Portuguese restaurants. Fair prices and good value for money. We'll be back next time we're in Hamburg.

A very large selection of typical Portuguese dishes. The prawns in a clay pot and the grilled sardines were a delight.

We were very impressed; the fish soup and bacon-wrapped wolffish rolls were simply delicious. The tapas were also delicious, like the bacon-wrapped dates and chicken breast with sauce! We'd love to eat there more often, but we're only in Hamburg for a few days :)

Recommended restaurant in Hamburg's Portuguese Quarter. Nice ambiance in two dining rooms, separated from the entrance area. The service was friendly and quick. Bread with a dip was served as a welcome gift from the kitchen. The bread was fresh, and the dip was delicious. For starters, we had a fish soup, which was a good size for the price and very tasty. The shrimp, which were a bit more expensive, were also a good starter. For main courses, we had a tuna steak and a beef skewer. Both were excellent, very good quality, and very tasty. The vegetables were also fresh and crispy. My only minor criticism was the fried potatoes, which were a bit undercooked. Not bad, but the flavor wasn't my thing. Overall, though, a great experience, hence full stars.

Pedimos la brocheta de ternera, cocinada media ++ — claramente una solicitud muy ambiciosa. Leider ganz schlecht! Wir hatten je ein Gericht. Beide Gerichte waren ungenügend z.B. war das Tunfischsteak höchstwahrscheinlich tiefgefroren und megaschlecht verarbeitet, das Gemüse dampfgegart ohne Geschmack und die Kartoffeln - naja die haben’s dann auch nicht mehr rausgerissen… es ging zurück. Ich hab wirklich noch nie so schlechtes Essen gegessen - sorry.

Delicious food, cozy atmosphere!

If the best thing is the fried potatoes, something is wrong, without a doubt. I like to spend money on good quality, but the fish connoisseur has come to the wrong place here. The fish and the frozen mixed vegetables tasted identical. You could have at least spiced it up with butter and fresh parsley, but you don't even bother. As a Hamburger I should have known better, it was the first and last spontaneous visit. The fish plate was tasteless, the mussels were the smallest and most stunted I've ever seen. My advice is not to offer any, because the tourists will be happy about it.

We had lunch here on Saturday, it is very cozy and inviting. The service staff is very nice and attentive. The food was very tasty and plentiful and there was also a delicious wine that rounded off the meal. This location is recommended. We'd love to come back.

I had dinner there with a friend today. Unfortunately, it wasn't until after I drank my Lilet that I noticed that there was a moldy raspberry in it. The waitress didn't understand when I explained it to her and called another waiter to whom I explained it again. After that, no one served us anymore. I find this experience very disappointing.

The meat was still raw inside and otherwise the food was average at best. Unfortunately, over time you have to eat on your neck and other guests are also seated at the table without being asked. Prices are fair. The tapas, the fish platter and the dish of the day (monkfish in brandy cream sauce) were really good. Service is also very nice.

We were there yesterday with friends and wanted to have lunch. The food was good indeed, but when I asked the waiter where the bathroom is and he pointed at the tree and told me “for you it is there”. I am not sure if that was supposed to be funny.

Great Portuguese, delicious food 😋, very nice staff 🫶, we felt very comfortable.

Unfortunately I have to say that I didn't like some things. First of all, while we were eating, the waitress said he had to move our table otherwise he wouldn't come over. I also didn't like the food, the crab sauce didn't go well with it at all. It seemed to me like mass processing.

We were there once in 2023 and ate there on two evenings because it tasted so good. Unfortunately we (3 people) were disappointed with the food today. The service wasn't particularly cooperative either. Too bad.

I landed here at lunchtime on my 2-day trip to Hamburg. "Dreierlei from Fisch" was excellent and so plentiful that I had to forgo both the potatoes and the vegetables that were served. Super tasty!

Lovely Portuguese restaurant near the waterfront of Hamburg and in the cult neighbourhood of St Pauli. The place is in an area full of Portuguese restaurants that make you feel far away from Hamburg as you turn around the corner. The service was clearly the highlight of the place. Familiar, close, attentive and friendly service made our experience much much pleasant. They spoke English, Portuguese, German and Spanish. Food was very good, tasty and portions were right. They offer a very wide selection of fish based dishes. I ordered the dorada with potatoes and my girlfriend ordered gambas al ajillo, which I would recommend. We went a bit late so they were out of a few options (I was really rotting for bacallau). The price was right considering it is Hamburg and very similar to the other places we passed by. I definitely recommend this place for its closeness and the fish based options.

We had a reservation at your restaurant this evening. In the morning we spoke to a super nice employee who persuaded us to reserve a table for the evening. When we arrived in the evening, the staff was extremely stressed and not attentive. The meal took a very long time, and even though we specifically asked not to have peppers and onions in the dish, our order was still served with these vegetables. This was particularly disappointing because I can't stand it. The quality of the food also left something to be desired and did not meet our expectations. Overall, we didn't feel well looked after as guests and would have liked a more pleasant experience.

I cannot understand the numerous positive reviews. First: You should urgently revise the menu you posted online. Prices have risen significantly. Then I don't understand why about 80% of the main courses are in pepper sauce? There is no such thing in Portugal. I ordered salmon. One and a half (!) boiled potatoes and two small sad grilled pieces of salmon. Add 1 broccoli floret, 1 cauliflower floret, 4 pieces of carrots and a few beans (all unseasoned and essentially raw). We sat almost alone in the restaurant (left part). After we received the main course, there was no service. Sitting in front of empty glasses. Nobody asked if we wanted something more to drink or dessert. I don't know that from Portugal either. So I don't have to give myself that a second time.

We have been coming to O Farol on our many visits to Hamburg for many years and have always really enjoyed the food and ambience. Unfortunately, the quality and especially the taste has declined significantly in the last few months. For example, on our last visit the vegetables tasted bland and the fish was at a fry shop level. Overall, the food was edible, but nothing more. Too bad 😪. Unfortunately there is no longer any Sagres beer, only Superbock.

Wir entschieden uns mit unseren Freunden mal etwas anderes zu versuchen und die portugiesische Küche auszuprobieren. Das Restaurant war auch spät abends gut besucht, weswegen wir uns sicher fühlten eine gute Entscheidung getroffen zu haben. Wie sich später rausstellte, sollten wir uns hierbei geirrt haben. Unsere Bestellungen wurden zwar schnell aufgenommen, jedoch schien das Personal sehr gestresst zu sein was sich auch auf uns auswirkte. Die Vorspeise die wir bestellt haben waren sehr verheißungsvoll weswegen wir uns sehr auf unseren Hauptgang freuten. Als dieser dann kam war die Enttäuschung groß. Das Steak was ich bestellt hatte war leider durchgebraten und jegliche Form von Gewürzen wurden bei allen 4 Hauptgängen vermisst. Die Größe der Portionen ließ bei meinen Freunden auch eher zu wünschen übrig. Ein mickriges ebenfalls ungewürztes Stück Lachs bzw. 3 Gambas gepaart mit 3 halben Kartoffeln und einer wässrigen (nicht) Pfeffersauce für ungefähr 20 Euro, ließen uns enttäuscht zurück. Bei passender Qualität ist nichts an diesen Preisen auszusetzen, jedoch war diese leider nicht vorhanden. Vom Service war nach abholen der nicht geleerten Teller auch nichts mehr zu hören. Keine Frage nach mehr Getränken oder Dessert. Alles in allem leider eine enttäuschende Erfahrung.

The atmosphere was stressful, a lot of noise from the kitchen...we were never asked if we liked the food and nobody came to ask if we would like a dessert or something more to drink. The food was disappointing to say the least. I ordered a salmon with peppersauce. The portion was ridiculously small in a very big plate. The salmon was dry and the sauce tasted nothing. It was served with literally three bites of potatoe. The rice was overcooked and also tasteless. When you pay more than 20€ per person you expect at least something good even if the portion was so small. The sallads they brought on the side were swimming in vinegar. Generally bad service and overpriced tasteless food. Do not recommend. Not a good representation of Portuguese cuisine.
