N.i.L. barvital in Kiel

I actually like NIL because of the fresh food, the friendly service, and the warm outdoor seating. But I was annoyed recently. An acquaintance was charged €5 for a takeaway container, even though she had spent over €60. Considering the price increases, I find that downright outrageous, especially in expensive restaurants. They cite sustainability as the reason, but apparently throwing away food is okay. And no, not every adult wants to run around with Tupperware containers like a kindergartener, just in case.

I had the mushroom risotto with lamb – highly recommended. The risotto was creamy, the mushrooms perfectly cooked, and the meat incredibly tender. You can simply taste that everything is freshly cooked. The owner treated my friend to a tiramisu for her birthday. A very thoughtful touch and a wonderful atmosphere, always a pleasure.

We always enjoy coming to Nil because you can relax comfortably and indulge in culinary delights. The outdoor area is inviting even in bad weather, and the interior is also beautifully decorated. The service is usually good, but there are a few employees who don't quite have the hang of things. These are often very young people who still need to gain a bit more experience to become great. ❤️

Awesome!!!!! We are thrilled... The selection of dishes is indescribably large. It's hard to decide... each one sounds better than the last. The taste was absolutely stunning. All the dishes we ordered were amazing.

We're here today for Oktoberfest. The atmosphere is great, and the Bavarian menu is only missing the Obazta beer. Schnapps is also on the house. The food here is always good, and I can recommend the place without hesitation.

As residents living behind the N.I.L., it's really becoming unbearable: At 11:30 p.m., chairs are still being pushed across the square, and at 6 a.m. in the morning, too. On top of that, guests are sitting in the aisles where they're supposed to walk through – and yet they still yell at you if you try to pass through. About the restaurant: The food is really delicious, but quite expensive, hence only 4 stars. The service is abysmal: We were sitting in the blazing sun and asked if the sunshade could be lowered. We were immediately told it couldn't be lowered – and the sound was terrible. Less than 20 minutes later, the manager came, and suddenly it worked?! The service and ambiance desperately need work. And the least we could do would be to show at least a little consideration for the residents – for example, by not constantly dragging the chairs across the floor. Oh yes, and what many people probably forget: You are very much being watched by the people who sit there every day – and yes, they talk about you. ;)

I had the peanut chicken – simply delicious! The sauce was perfectly balanced, and the meat was tender and juicy. The service was outstanding: super attentive, friendly, and fast. Even with a large group, no one had to wait long; everything ran smoothly. A restaurant that impresses not only with its food, but also with its hospitality. Always happy to return – highly recommended!

Two of us were there for breakfast. We sat on the terrace and had scrambled eggs with vegetables...very tasty and plentiful. Our waitress was attentive and very friendly.

More a place to be seen than for good food. The quality of the food varies greatly from visit to visit; sometimes the pasta is softly cooked, sometimes it's almost raw. The advice regarding wine pairing is also rather random and inappropriate. The menu's variety is a positive.

The price/performance ratio is truly excellent, even if it seems expensive at first glance. The quality and quantity definitely justify the prices. The staff is always friendly and service is very quick. I've been coming here for at least 10 years.

The two of us went there for breakfast. Firstly, I think the €1.90 surcharge for a café crema instead of a regular coffee is excessive... I haven't experienced that anywhere else. Secondly, it was a shame that the bakery rolls were obviously reheated from the day before, making them difficult to cut and the crusts very hard. That somewhat spoiled what was otherwise a very delicious breakfast. The menu generally offers a varied selection, with something for everyone. The service was very friendly and attentive.

Salmon cheese pasta, so much fish, so happy!! The beef is full of Asian flavor, the bean sprouts are fresh and tender, surprise!! Why did I not come to eat it until today😭

The drinks were great and the service was friendly, but the scrambled eggs were swimming in oil, and the cauliflower with hummus looked old and was very salty. When we pointed out the shortcomings, the waitress said she understood, as you could see the oil, but we still had to pay the full price, and there was no apology or anything like that. It's a shame. I'd still come back just for the drinks.

Ambience – see and be seen – if you like being able to people-watch from the street and be stared at yourself – this is the place for you. Service is friendly and polite, but unobtrusive. The food 🥴 the scrambled eggs were swimming in grease, the cauliflower with hummus was oversalted - no discount or free drink – N.i.L., you're out!

The food is absolutely top-notch. It tastes really good. Unfortunately, I have to withdraw my 5 stars after the latest price increase. €6.20 for a beer is simply too much. The food is still okay, as the pasta portions are at least really large. Unfortunately, I won't be coming here as often anymore. It's a real shame.

I often go to NiL for breakfast – it's a chilled spot, the kitchen is open, and everyone who works there is really friendly. The French breakfast is my go-to; the croissants with strawberry jam are my favorite. The café, in particular, has been really nice lately. I like the whole vibe even more since the new decor.

I spontaneously went to Nil with my girls last Friday – and it was such a lovely evening. People everywhere, a great atmosphere, and suddenly a guy with an electric guitar came onto the terrace and started playing?! We hadn't expected anything, and it only made the evening even more beautiful. I think it's really nice that Nil is always coming up with new, out-of-the-ordinary events. We were there for hours, drinking, laughing, and listening to the live music. One of those evenings that happens spontaneously and that you remember for a long time.

You notice immediately: Everything here is fresh and homemade, nothing off the shelf. The food from the seasonal menu is also impressive. We tried the breads at the weekend, and they were really good. Nothing compared to what you might get elsewhere. And with a cold Veltins, it doesn't get much better than that. A "delicious beer" in the sun and honest quality without any frills. That's exactly how it should be.

The food was very tasty, but there was a lot of it. The coffee is more suitable for older people.

We spent a weekend in Kiel and happened to be there last Saturday when an Italian evening was taking place. The weather was great, and overall, this evening was the perfect end to our short vacation. We received a warm welcome, Italian garlands were hanging everywhere, we were able to sit outside after a maximum of four minutes of waiting. The manager (?) was very friendly, and the music was really well chosen. The highlight, however, was the food: burrata with roasted tomatoes, followed by pasta from a Parmesan loaf—and my highlight: truffles on the side, which we were allowed to try on their own. Just like that. No fuss, but with a lot of flavor. Lübeck could really learn a thing or two from such events; you can see how much love goes into every detail. We had so much fun and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I'm sure we'll definitely take another trip to Kiel and then to the Nile this summer!

NIL offers food with extremely poor value for money. The service is extremely rude and greedy. Not worth a visit! Although the Caesar salad was delicious, I don't recommend it.

Delicious breakfast, very nice service

I love the fresh salads and the freshly squeezed juices every day. 
You choose a base and can then put together your own side dish from different categories (vegetarian / vegan / or with fish or meat). The different side dishes are well thought out and really generous. I usually have a juice with it - sometimes with orange and carrot, sometimes with beetroot. My favorite is the dawn or energy boost! Especially on warm days, there is nothing better for me than sitting outside on the piazza with a friend and having a snack - with a fresh salad and an ice-cold juice (or Aperol). Keep it up!!

I love how the N.i.L. reinvented again and again. After the Aperol Hour there is now the so-called “Déjà-vu moment”, i.e. still drinks for 5€. Especially now, when many things have become more expensive, a campaign like this is simply worth its weight in gold. Especially for us students (and everyone else who doesn't always have a lot of money at our disposal) it's a really nice way to continue toasting with friends in the sun. I think it's really cool to see how the NIL doesn't stand still and rest on the fact that things are going well, but always come up with new ideas, such as the events with live DJ. 

I usually rarely write reviews, but I had to get this out of the way - for me you are one of the most likeable restaurants in Kiel: warm, creative and made with a lot of love. You feel welcome at any time.

I was at Café Nil in Kiel and was thrilled! The staff was incredibly polite and attentive. As soon as we entered we were offered a high chair for our toddler, which I really appreciated. The friendliness and courtesy of the team were truly outstanding. The location of the café in the middle of the city is also a big plus. A small drawback, however, is the parking situation - it can be difficult to find a parking space in the area and you should allow a little more time to look for a parking space. If you like it a little quieter, you might be a little disappointed here. When it's full, the noise level is very high. The food was delicious and the prices are OK.

The April menu in the N.i.L. it just worked really well again. I had the beetroot carpaccio with goat cheese cream, lamb's lettuce, walnuts and balsamic vinegar - super fresh, delicately seasoned and beautifully presented. What I like about N.i.L. I guess: it just never stops. The season tickets change regularly, there are always new ideas on the menu or at the bar, and yet the relaxed, familiar vibe remains. You can tell that there are people behind it who really want to develop themselves further. For me one of the best places in Kiel – not just for eating, but also for arriving.

Lively and busy place on a weekday dinner time. We got a table inside by luck. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The selection of pasta is wide. The pasta could be cooked more consistently though.

The food has lost sophistication and freshness. The vegetables were no longer crunchy (they used to be) and coriander couldn't be found... The toilet is a hygienic disgrace!!!

Always well attended, but we still spontaneously found places outside. We were there in the evening and had a salad. This one was really very good. I will definitely go back when I'm in Kiel again. Staff is friendly and quick. There were blankets on the chairs and the patio heaters were turned on. In terms of price it was completely okay.

I am particularly enthusiastic about the many vegetarian and vegan options, which have been constantly developed over the last few years and are prepared with a noticeable amount of love. My favorite are the fresh salads – the different combinations and toppings mean it never gets boring. The homemade pasta is also really good - I love the tagliatelle with sheep's cheese. You can tell that the kitchen team is always coming up with something new, and you can taste it in the changing specialties. The service is warm, you immediately feel welcome. When I'm in Kiel, a visit to the N.i.L. planned for me.

Super delicious food and a varied weekly menu. I always enjoy coming to N.i.L.! The mussels in white wine stock and the daily specials are particularly real highlights. There are also great wines and changing homemade lemonade. The atmosphere is relaxed, the team is friendly. Absolute recommendation!

Very cozy bar with delicious, lovingly prepared food and drinks. In the cold season there are also patio heaters on the outdoor terrace. The service is very friendly. The bathroom is very clean. Gladly again!

We ordered the pampering breakfast and the vegetarian version with a smoothie. Each breakfast offers a sufficient selection of ingredients such as cheese, sausage, jam, cream cheese and yoghurt with fruit and scrambled eggs at the pampering breakfast. Even though everything was tasty overall and the service was also very good, I think the prices are a bit too high. At least when it comes to choosing coffee, you shouldn't charge an additional €1.80. I'd love to come back, but not as often as in the past. The only reason is that the price limit was unfortunately slightly exceeded.

The NIL Restaurant in Kiel is simply great! I've been a regular here since day one, and the NIL has been around for a long time. I used to live in Kiel and every time I visit from Berlin I have to eat here. My absolute favorite dish is the tagliatelle with salmon, shrimp, snow peas and the delicious curry-orange-coconut sauce. A real highlight for every palate! You can feel the attention to detail in every moment. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff is always friendly and attentive. I can only warmly recommend it!

We had the pleasure of visiting the restaurant for the second time and were once again given an extremely friendly welcome by Andrea. The restaurant is absolutely recommended: from the inviting atmosphere to the great location to the first-class quality, everything is just right. We'll be back!

I had breakfast there with a friend. There are various breakfast options to choose from. Everything was very rich and tasty. Everything was lovingly prepared. We were both very impressed. It was a nice day to sit outside. There is a large awning there so we had enough shade. It was really great. The service was very attentive but not intrusive. We felt very comfortable.

A summery atmosphere invites you to linger. There was also Caesar salad with goat's cream cheese and avocado wedges as a topping. Very tasty and absolutely recommended. However, the limit has been reached in terms of price. Well, unfortunately quality comes at a cost and that's why it's 5 stars overall. Keep it up❤️🌻

Nice bar in the middle of Kiel. You eat and sit well. Kaiserschmarrn...Well, Kiel is not Lech. Pasta with beef Dijon is great. Just like the salad with Asian chicken.

We were there for lunch. The service is very, very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious, only one leaf of the rocket was yellow and it didn't look that great. But otherwise everything was fine. We will certainly come back.

Large mixed breakfast selection, there are coffee alternatives for a small surcharge. We had the classic and the Mediterranean breakfast. For the amount of bread/rolls there could be a little more butter. The egg salad and strawberry jam are very tasty. The service staff were very courteous and friendly. Because of the nice weather we were able to sit outside. We were also lucky enough to get a parking space almost in front of the door. All in all very recommendable.

Were there as a couple on the Spanish evening. It was packed but the food was still very well prepared, now a favorite restaurant for us!

Today we were at the N.I.L. on the occasion of Holstein Kiel's promotion parade. Even though the store was packed, the service team remained extremely friendly and made every effort to serve all guests promptly. The food was great and there is a great crémant here.

Wir gehen schon seit 3 Jahren ins Nil..am Anfang öfter aber durch meine Krankheit weniger..wir haben uns bis jetzt immer sehr wohl gefühlt..das Essen ist richtig lecker und auch sonst waren wir immer gerne da..bis auf neulich..das betrifft nicht alle Bedienungen..da haben wir 20 min gewartet und die Bedienung ..ein sehr junges Mädchen mit langem Haar..ging überall zu jedem hin nur nicht zu uns..da haben wir das Nil verlassen zu Recht denn wir hatten das Gefühl die wollte uns nicht bedienen was sie auch später selbst zugegeben hat..wenn Andrea da ist wird kontrolliert und da passiert sowas nicht..diesmal war sie nicht da..hab dann geschrieben in einem Beitrag unter der Webseite 1.Mai zu finden..dass wir demnächst gerne mal Bedient werden möchten und damit war die Sache von uns aus erledigt..darauf hin schreibt das junge Madl die uns nicht bedient hatte wir sollen mit Ihr auf eine Augenhöhe stehen und zu Recht hätte Sie uns nicht bedient..das ist das allerletzte ..ich bin Gast und lass Geld da und somit finanziere ich Ihr Job mit...Ich hab Sie nicht beleidigt villt konnte die Kellnerin die Wahrheit nicht ab..aber die Bewertungen hier bestätigen das ..wenn das so perfekt wäre dann würden keine negativen Berwertungen abgegeben..Man sollte das kleine Madl mal zeigen wo Sie steht..für mich und mein Mann wars das und wir sind nicht die einzigen .

Food is always really, really tasty! The service is always super friendly and very accommodating! It's just that the clientele is sometimes really unpleasant.

A ladle of coconut-lemon soup and 3 slices of baguette for 7.90 euros... I was just disappointed on Thursday lunchtime. How can you present a soup so carelessly? There was just as little to it in terms of taste as it was visually - see photo. Really a shame.

We were lucky that we got a place with 6 people, but that was only because 2 men moved when asked by the service, thank you again. On the whole everything was okay, but there is still room for improvement when it comes to the composition of the individual breakfast range, that is my opinion. I would also think it would be better if you got two small cafés instead of the big one, because the café is cold when breakfast comes. We will definitely repeat the whole thing again.

I like Nile, but I think the menu could have more options since it's basically just pasta. In addition, the food is without salt every time... but oh well

Ein wunderschöner Abend im Advent leckerer Punsch mit einer Bratwurst machten mir den Aufenthalt mal wieder zu einem schönen Erlebnis..danke dass es euch gibt

Heute superlecker gegessen, hab den Eindruck, die Qualität ist wieder angehoben. Sehr angetan!

Wir haben uns Seitan Curry und Gelbes Curry bestellt und einen Caesar Salad mit Hähnchen. Zu den Currys muss ich leider sagen dass es sehr wenig war für jeweils 15 Euro, geschmacklich aber gut. Es wurde auf sehr flachen länglichen Tellern serviert, das sieht zwar gut aus aber ist natürlich von der Befüllung her minimal, nicht wie bei einem tiefen Teller zb. Das Essen blieb durch die grosse Fläche auch nicht lange warm. Wir orderten noch Reis dazu, uns wurde gesagt Reis gehört nicht dazu... wir wollten aber gerne welchen, der dann für uns zwei in einer echt kleinen Portion gebracht wurde die wir anschließend auch bezahlen mussten mit 3 Euro. Der Salat unserer Freundin war okay, das Fleisch hatte leider kaum Geschmack. Der Ingwer Minz Tee ist auch geschmacklich nicht toll, halt bischen Ingwer, heisses Wasser drauf, 4,20 Euro... naja wenn er lecker gewesen wäre wärs noch okay. Wir waren insgesamt nicht so zufrieden.
