We had a delicious meal... the atmosphere was great and the staff was super friendly.

The food was served very unappetizingly in metal bowls that looked like kidney dishes from an operating room. The portions were far too small, and the quality of the fish was poor (fish fingers stuck together). The toilets were dirty, and no one seemed to care. I witnessed several people complaining to the staff about the food and drinks.

What a shame, we were really looking forward to fish and chips, but were so disappointed. If I want fish fingers, I'll order them. But such a tiny portion in a tin bowl? For €21.90? Never again!

This was our third visit to this wonderful restaurant – and each time we're thrilled! The moment you step inside, you receive a warm welcome and immediately feel at home. The atmosphere is pleasant, inviting, and full of attention to detail – you can tell that the people who run this place are truly passionate. The food is simply outstanding! Every course is a small work of art, prepared with fresh ingredients, perfect seasoning, and great care. You can taste that quality and enjoyment are paramount here. Whether it's the appetizer, main course, or dessert – everything was absolutely perfect. The service also deserves high praise: attentive, friendly, unobtrusive, yet always there when you need something. You feel completely pampered without it feeling forced. In short: This restaurant truly leaves nothing to be desired. Everything is just right – from the first moment to the last bite. We'll definitely be back and would gladly give it more stars than are allowed, if we could.

Simply a very good restaurant. Whether inside in bad weather or outside in good weather, it's always worth a visit. Whether fish, meat, or vegetarian dishes, there's something for everyone. The farmer's breakfast is especially recommended. The service is always very friendly and helpful. From the terrace, you have a beautiful view over the fjord and the marina. In spring and autumn, the terrace is unfortunately in the shade of the old Olympic Center in the evenings. It can be a bit chilly there, even though the sun is shining.

Last weekend we were in Kiel and made a reservation at 'El Mövenschiss'. The restaurant is beautifully located... with a view of the harbor. The ambiance is 'Nordic,' cozy. The staff were extremely accommodating, friendly, and always professional. The food was EXCELLENT. The homemade lemonade is also highly recommended. The space is perfect for parties and larger groups. We'll be back... guaranteed!

The name says it all! We were initially greeted by a dirty outdoor ambiance...half-empty beer bottles were lying around everywhere, and the wait staff walked past them countless times, but no one seemed to mind. Some of the plants hung desolately and withered in their old pots. The outdoor area looked unkempt and in need of a pressure washer and an upgrade! The tables were dirty and covered in drink stains, and our table wasn't cleaned by the staff during our visit—which we would have expected, at least. The food was overpriced for its poor quality and served with ready-made sauces. We expected much better from a restaurant located on the water in Schilksee. Once and never again! In our opinion, an overpriced snack bar!

The cucumber potato salad was substandard, as was the fried fish. They should be paying compensation instead of paying a high price. Not recommended.

That was nothing! No comparison to the quality of previous years! Disappointing food for a lot of money! The only good thing is the location and the view. But I could just as easily sit on the beach in Schilksee or on the steps in front of the restaurant with tapas from the discount store, which taste better, and a glass of wine I brought with me. This restaurant definitely saw us! What a shame!

Very tasty food right at the Olympic harbor.

Four years ago, I gave it a full 5 stars, but after our last visit, I have to change my review. Unfortunately, the quality has steadily declined over the past few years. Surf & Turf for €47 with such cold and soggy fries is not commensurate with the price of a self-service restaurant. The €12 surcharge alone for the shrimp skewer, which consists of half a dozen small shrimp and is comparable to a product from the frozen section of any local supermarket, is hefty, to say the least. I ordered medium raw and got something between medium and well-done. The halibut was of similar quality. It's a shame, the view over the harbor is great, and we've been eating there every year since then while passing through, but we'll look for something else.

Service is unfriendly, wrong food is delivered, there's no flexibility, long lines for self-service in a restaurant!!, and when you graciously get your turn, your order time has expired, and the reception is unfriendly. Apparently, the otherwise good restaurant is overwhelmed in terms of organization and service in good weather.

A complaint was made about a dish because it was not prepared with chicken breast as described on the menu, but with other parts of the chicken (as was revealed upon inquiry). A subsequent adjustment in the kitchen did not result in any improvement. My guest did not eat the dish. I informed the server that this dish was not ordered and that it should not be charged in full under any circumstances. The server offered to take care of it, but nothing happened. In the end, the full price was charged, and unfortunately, I paid in full. There was no apology, nor was there a farewell.

We come here often and are always impressed by the excellent food and top-notch service!

Always a good choice. Especially if you like fish, this is the place to be. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality is completely justified. The air inside can be a bit stuffy at times, so the quiet location is perfect for sitting outside in good weather.

Nothing special. Due to the idiosyncratic service concept (guests order their own food, bring their own drinks to their table, and then receive their food via pager), the system unfortunately remains more memorable than the food. One really wonders who came up with this idea and, above all, why. There wasn't much less staff than in comparable restaurants. Eaten: Wiener schnitzel with fried potatoes and an appetizer. Everything was delivered at the same time, also a price to pay for this service concept. The presentation was very unusual, but the taste unfortunately didn't live up to the visual promise. Location with huge potential. The staff was friendly (of course, they did the work themselves). The price/performance ratio isn't right.

Wir waren jahrelang sehr zufrieden mit dem El Mövenschiss. Die Besuche in den letzten Monaten haben aber gezeigt, dass hier in vielerlei Hinsicht gespart wird, und zwar zulasten der Gäste. Angefangen bei der Qualität und Quantität der Speisen bis hin zum Service. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist leider aus den Fugen geraten. Und wenn dann endlich der Tisch abgeräumt wird und erstmals die (gelangweilt geäußerte) Frage kommt, ob es denn geschmeckt habe, erfolgt auch keine wünschenswerte Reaktion. In unserem letzten Fall haben wir bei 3 von 4 Gerichten die Qualität (Pommes waren hell / wabbelig / fast roh, das Fleisch schien alt zu sein, die Currywurst offenbar vorgegart und aufgewärmt u.ä.) bemängelt. Als Reaktion kam nur ein gemurmeltes „Das tut mir Leid.“. Sorry, aber es ging der Dane am … vorbei. Wir fühlten uns nicht ernstgenommen und somit als Gast nicht willkommen. Sehr schade, denn das war mal komplett anders. Da wir nun mehrfach enttäuscht das Lokal verlassen haben, werden wir als ehemalige Stammkunden das Restaurant nicht mehr besuchen.

Disappointing Visit to El Mövenschiss – Proximity to the Beach Isn't Enough My visit to El Mövenschiss today, near the beach, was unfortunately a disappointment, especially considering the restaurant's beautiful location. With the wonderful weather, we naturally wanted to sit outside, but were confronted with a concept that resembled a beach hut more than a restaurant. Ordering drinks and food is done from a small container, and the drinks must then be carried to the table. You also have to either take the menus yourself or read them from the attached cards. And cutlery? You also bring that to the table yourself. This caused unnecessary difficulties, especially for older guests. I observed several seniors having trouble carrying their trays, and unfortunately, one gentleman even broke his entire tray of drinks. The scattered glass was unfortunately not removed promptly, which posed a real safety risk given the many barefoot beachgoers walking directly from the beach. I felt compelled to alert other guests to the danger, which at least received confirmation from the staff member in the container. After ordering and independently transporting the drinks, guests were asked to place a tracker on a sticker on the table so that the food could be brought to them. This procedure was also incomprehensible to many guests and led to confusion. Also completely missing was salt and pepper at the table. There were only two tiny napkins, the kind you normally only find at a snack bar. All of this might be acceptable if the prices were adjusted accordingly. But you pay the same prices as in a restaurant, but receive no table service at all. The value for money is, in my opinion, completely unjustified, and you feel like a second-class guest. This experience was further reinforced when I went to the restroom and was asked if I was even a guest of the restaurant. I found the menu to be very straightforward. We ordered herring and fried fish. The presentation of the dishes took some getting used to, and the taste was merely okay. Fortunately, the fried potatoes with the herring were well prepared—crispy but not greasy. Unfortunately, the potato salad with the fried fish was very sour and heavy with mustard, which wasn't to my taste at all. The portions were rather small in my opinion. All in all, despite its good location, El Mövenschiss offers a disappointing concept that fails to impress with either its service or its outstanding food. We definitely won't be back.

Everything was great. But we're confused that we can't tip. The system works well. But where's the money for tips for the great staff? Do something about it. I've worked in service myself for 25 years. It's completely wrong not to tip.

Definitely recommended! We hadn't even considered this restaurant. I was given a gift voucher, and that's how we ended up here. We used the evening as the start of our vacation, and it couldn't have been better. We were lucky enough to make a last-minute reservation. We received a very warm welcome, and the food was of excellent quality! The only downside was the tables being so close together. Nevertheless, we felt comfortable and had an excellent meal. Thank you very much, and we look forward to our next visit.

The food there was really amazing, also wheelchair accessible and very nice atmosphere, friendly service, you also get T-shirts and glasses as a souvenir, so to speak, I highly recommend it.

No greeting from the waitress, a curry that doesn't deserve the name, with woody asparagus and mint garnish, weak in seasoning, very plain in flavor, not worth a single euro. The entire building is built in the bunker gray of the early 70s. I'm amazed; advertising for customers seems unnecessary given the quality of the food. For me, not again.

We've always enjoyed coming here. In the summer, it's lovely to sit on the terrace and enjoy the view over the marina. Yes, eating out is unfortunately more expensive these days. The quality of the dishes is excellent, but unfortunately, we weren't full. The portions are really too small for the price, hence one star deducted! The service is consistently excellent, and the staff are incredibly friendly!

It was really nice, but my noodles were really bad

No recommendation - Why? The price-performance ratio is absolutely not right... Unfortunately. The place and the restaurant itself are in a great location with a large parking lot nearby. The name is catchy and absolutely fitting for the region. The service... Somehow extremely slow and completely out of touch... It also gives you a strange feeling when ordering... As if it's not necessary here and the guests just come by themselves. (This is a general statement; the younger colleagues were super on their toes.) The glasses... were visibly in the dishwasher a lot, and the food was completely overpriced for the quality served. No recommendation + no further visits here.

We had the pleasure of eating there last Saturday! Given the reviews, we had high hopes and actually assumed we wouldn't be disappointed.! While we weren't disappointed, we were quickly disillusioned. The ambiance is reminiscent of a fast-food restaurant, or rather, of the "Nordsee" chain. We (4 people) got a table in the back, and the atmosphere was more like a quick bite to eat and then leave! From crooked old Kiel Week pictures, old furniture, and wobbly chairs, it was all there. Oh, and let's not forget the broken glasses either; it was pure fast food.! So if the atmosphere isn't right (or so we thought), then the food must be amazing, but that was also the wrong assumption; disillusionment set in very quickly. I had a salmon burger with fries, which was rather poorly prepared; the fries, the burger, and the taste were just OK, not a real treat. My companions each had a fish plate with mustard sauce, which was a bit different. It looked good, but the taste was only just OK. Unfortunately, the food was only warm and, with unidentifiable fried strips (maybe onions), it wasn't really a highlight. What was a highlight, however, was the price! I find 4 dishes and 4 drinks (2x Spezi, 1x Alster, 1x Aperol Spritz) for over 120 euros at snack bar level quite a bit; you can expect a bit more! BOTTOM LINE: Yes, you can eat there, but you don't have to. Others can do it better for the prices, so I can't recommend it. The view of the beach isn't enough. Especially when the seating arrangement is such that only two people look at the beach and the other two at an empty buffet. The service was good and attentive, but couldn't make up for the food and ambiance.

We were in Schilksee again yesterday and were able to sit outside on the terrace at El Mövenschiss in good weather. We ordered the tapas platter, which was also very good. The prices have gone up here as well. On our last visit, the platter was significantly cheaper. The ambiance is very nice, and the service was also attentive. Highly recommended, hence the full star rating.

Die Erdbeerschnitte war eine Enttäuschung. Grundlage ein einfacher Kuchen, darauf eine Puddingauflage, die stark nach Zitrone schmeckte. Das Ganze war belegt mit mittelgroßen, geviertelten Erdbeeren in zwei locker gelegten Reihen. Vom Platz her wären vier Reihen möglich gewesen. Darüber eine dicke Schicht rote Gelatinenmasse. Das Stück war ein normal großes Stück vom Backblech. Die „Erdbeere“Schnitte schmeckte nur nach gesüßter Zitrone. In jeder Filiale einer Großbäckerei ist das besser zu kaufen. Dazu ein ordentlicher Milchkaffee und ein halber Liter „Mineralwasser“ ohne Kohlensäure aus einer Karaffe - kleinere Menge gibt es nicht. Vermutlich also Leitungswasser. (Vermutung) Das macht zusammen 13,50€!

We had a great confirmation ceremony there. The preliminary discussions and arrangements were reliable, the service was great and the food (buffet) was first class! Clear recommendation!

I was there for Easter brunch. The selection was okay, but unfortunately too small for the price. There was a constant long line at the buffet so there was always a wait. Unfortunately, the room from the buffet was really small, so everything was very tight. The service was still quite good, but sometimes you had to wait longer. All in all, the visit was okay, but I wouldn't go there again.

Bin vor zwei Jahren mit der Familie hier gewesen und haben sehr gut gegessen. Mein letzter Besuch war in Bezug auf das Essen enttäuschend. Das Essen war fast kalt, offenbar Convenience-Food, der Fisch schmeckte " mehlig". Auch das Essen meiner Begleiter war geschmacklich zu bemängeln. Die "Etappen" in denen das Essen fertig wurde, war an den "Temperaturzonen" auf dem Teller feststellbar. Das Essen war unterdurchschnittlich, der Service nett und gut, wie man es vom Möwenschiss kennt.

The fish dishes chosen were excellently prepared. The selection of drinks (hot and cold) is also satisfactory. A special compliment to the waiter, who is very attentive and accommodating! 1. Review Only recommended. Even on the busy New Year's Eve, the staff remained calm and did a great job! The food and drink menu is very balanced. The taste is also excellent.

Wir waren Sonnabend in dem Lokal, welches sehr gut besucht war und deshalb etwas unruhig wirkte. Insgesamt war der Service sehr gut, was dem (zu) vielen Personal zu verdanken war. Das Essen war ebenfalls sehr gut. Leider bin ich als normaler "Esser" trotz Vorspeise nicht satt geworden. Aus diesem Grund finde ich den Preis von ca. 29 Euro für ein kleines Stück Kabeljau und etwas Kartoffelstampf einfach zu hoch.

Legga Backfüsch. We were there at lunchtime. There are changing lunch offers. The plated dishes looked great and since we are coming back we will gradually eat our way through the menu. Beautiful decor, nice service that fulfills every wish and a great atmosphere, including a view of the Kiel Fjord. Top recommendation.

There is no alternative in Schilksee and Kiel. For food or just a drink. But always with tapas... Unfortunately there is no network there. Walls too thick.

It took a while for the food to arrive. But it was delicious.

Cozy restaurant right by the sea. We weren't that hungry, so we only shared one dish, the kale with sausage and smoked pork and potatoes. It was delicious and the portion was very generous, as were the drinks. The people in service were very friendly, relaxed and just pleasant. Would definitely come here again and try more next time I'm in Kiel.

Was a great restaurant with delicious food. Labskaus is often not very good. It was a pleasure here. The hot brownie with tonka bean ice cream was also great. And the concept with the seagull shit can be recognized in many details. Absolute recommendation!

The bit of breakfast was ok, unfortunately it had nothing to do with “Advent breakfast”. Simple run-of-the-mill breakfast. Scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. By 10:14 a.m. most of the things were no longer there and could therefore not be refilled, complete planning failure. The service was absolutely subpar, two waitresses who were totally inattentive. The younger of the two women was only busy flirting with the cook and, above all, constantly busy with her smartphone. I have no idea why watching Reels and writing WhatsApp was so important, then she shouldn't have signed up for the shift. For such a huge sum of over €25 you could have expected a lot more. And the fact that everything was constantly empty and wasn't filled up put the (disappointing) crown on the whole thing. Atmosphere like in a GDR canteen... We definitely won't be coming back, it's a shame about all the money and time wasted.

El Mövenschiss is a real highlight in Schilksee! The creative mix of maritime atmosphere, warm service and a unique menu makes this place something very special. The dishes are not only delicious, but also prepared with great attention to detail - from the fresh ingredients to the original presentation. The fish dishes and the homemade specials in particular are an absolute must. Plus a cool drink with a view of the sea - it couldn't be better! I'll definitely come back. Clear recommendation for anyone who wants to enjoy good food in a great atmosphere!

There were four of us there in December. Unfortunately, my panfish wasn't tasty, the vegetables were indefinable. The price-performance ratio wasn't right! We were regulars and very disappointed

Very good, always worth a visit.

Unfortunately very disappointed again. Fried potatoes for the butt were not freshly fried, but old and full of fat and kept lukewarm. The bacon sticks with the beet puree were warm cubes of bacon that were just limp but not fried (missed). The smoked pork with the far too sweet kale was a hard, fatty, par-cooked slice from the neck. The roasted potatoes, which were specially ordered without much sugar, were buried under a thick layer of sugar. They wanted to forward our complaint to the kitchen. Unfortunately there was no further reaction afterwards. We used to enjoy going to El Möwenschiss. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has plummeted in tandem with the sharply increased prices. For us it was the last time, as you eat better in most canteens.

Saturday, late afternoon, in November. Without reservation 2 people. Very friendly greeting/reception at the entrance. We can only judge what we ate and that was A1. Labskaus and ribeye. Plus a glass of rosé and red wine. The only thing that went with dessert was an espresso, unfortunately, the dessert menu read great/sweet. There is nothing to complain about with the food, nor with the service staff, and the chefs know their craft. We're happy to pay for good quality (Germans always like to complain about the price, it's their own fault.) And since we are also German and you want to know the fly in the ointment: There were cobwebs hanging on the wall lamps 😄 And if the plates were preheated, that would be ok. I have to admit that I was a bit taken aback by the name of this restaurant. While researching it I didn’t really find it too appealing. Still, when we first went there, the food was excellent. They have classic fare like the fantastic Labskaus as well as more fancy options. So we kept coming back. This is a spot that fills up rapidly on weekends, so if you know that you want to come here it’s best to reserve a table. Otherwise you might get turned away. In summer, outdoor seating is available. In winter, you can cozy up inside. If you need cellphone reception: this is a bunker. If you are too far away from the windows you will not have a signal.

There were four of us who had Labskaus, curry, venison burgers and panfish - everything was absolutely delicious! The service was also great. We'll be back!

Today we went to our favorite restaurant for a long time. Lack of time has been the reason so far. 😌 We always look forward to the ambience, the super friendly team, the latte macchiato, the coffee and the beautiful view of the fjord/Baltic Sea. We are glad that the team creates such a pleasant and calm atmosphere. For once, we didn't sit in our usual spot, by the window with the high tables, today. Always delicious, very friendly staff, always happy again

We are really mussel connoisseurs and have eaten mussels in various countries and restaurants. Unfortunately, these didn't taste fresh and when we opened the pot at the table, we smelled a suspicious smell. It's a shame, especially given the top view, location and the excellent ambience. The preparation seemed to be flawless, only the mussels were no longer as fresh as we knew or expected.

The food was good, the service too, overall there is still room for improvement.

Pretty and simply furnished with a fantastic view. We were there for the breakfast buffet. The selection extends to various cheese, fish and cold cuts with some antipasti, fruit, vegan and other salads, cereals, coffee, juice and water. At the end there are waffles (in small bites) and a dessert cream. Everything tasted good and was of good quality. There is a deduction for service and food because the service only asked for drinks once at the beginning and then no more. We would have liked to have a glass of champagne later, but somehow that didn't happen. It was also a shame that the roast beef was gone very quickly, and we couldn't treat ourselves to the waffles, which were also gone quickly. I expect a quicker replenishment. But otherwise everything was very pleasant and we would be happy to come back.
