Mutzenbacher in Berlin

From a trendy bar to a tourist bar, but only if you come early. On Thursday at 9 p.m. in the middle of Berlin I was rudely sent away. “The kitchen is already closed.” In any case, the visitor from Switzerland had a good laugh. In the middle of the nightlife district in the cosmopolitan city of Berlin, the unfriendly temporary worker sends you away again. As a regular from the very beginning, you can of course run down a traditional restaurant.

Shit service and that for a relatively easy task...

Solid food, cheese spaetzle were a bit soft and bland.

Very nice restaurant with great food and drinks. A small selection but everything was very tasty! The only downside is that you may have to forego stylish glasses because there don't seem to be enough of all types available. But it didn't bother us at all and the service was first class! We would love to come back! (group from Munich)

The food was really delicious, especially the spinach dumplings. However, service was not that great, we easily waited an hour for our dessert even though we ordered it with the meal.

Small room, service staff friendly, hot chocolate was cold and without cream (ordered), cranberries were missing from 2 schnitzels, Kaiserschmarrn was delicious and very powerful.

I am a neighbor of the neighborhood and I still remember when they opened the business, I think it was about 7 or 8 years ago. I have been many times over the years and I haven't been in a while. I went last week and I think it has changed owners, I have seen different workers and they have changed the menu a little. The food has gotten worse but it's okay, still. But the service is bad, just bad. It would be good service at the burgermeister or any hipster place in Neukolln but I'm not going to pay 27e for a plate of food with such bad service, I'm sorry. It seems to me that the price does not match the food nor of course the service. I'm sorry but last time...

We were on the way to a wonderful concert evening and wanted to have something delicious for dinner. Our choice fell on the Mutzenbacher. Our choice was a direct hit. The service staff was very nice and accommodating. The meal, a veal schnitzel with fries - was perfect! We felt very comfortable and will come back - promised!

Unfortunately I can't rate the food. After 15 minutes in the almost empty restaurant and repeated eye contact with the waitress (who didn't greet me either), I still didn't get a menu and left. Looks like the restaurant doesn't need any guests.

Overall, not enough quality and service On Saturday evening, the small, cramped shop in the trendy Simon-Dach Kiez is full, busy and loud. Our table near the door is very drafty and cold and the people, some of whom wait longer for their table at the entrance, are almost standing on our feet. In the end we only had two Franziskaner wheat beer and two Wiener schnitzels. The order took a bit because the service was pretty busy with the store full. Accordingly, the service wasn't particularly attentive. The quality of the Wiener Schnitzel was really not good. The meat was partly tough and fibrous and about 1/3 of the schnitzel was just breading without meat. The breading itself and side dish were ok, but nothing special. Overall, in my opinion, unfortunately not recommended if you want to eat a good Wiener Schnitzel in Berlin.

Quaint Austrian restaurant in the trendy area. Food is highly recommended, whether Kaiserschmarrn, dumplings or schnitzel. Everything is great in terms of quantity and quality. Also the prices are still normal. The furnishings take some getting used to, the toilets are very simple and are more reminiscent of a construction site toilet with a curtain. The service is friendly. All in all, recommended.

We have been to the Mutzenbacher several times in the past, but the owner seems to have changed and with it the staff, who are unfortunately very unfriendly and poorly trained. We were ignored for half an hour after we asked twice if we could at least order drinks. Before we were allowed to order after more than 30 minutes, we were shown a new seat because there was probably a large reservation. Then the wrong food was brought. After asking twice, this was still not addressed and was ignored. The restaurant manager tries hard, but his staff is unfriendly and unmotivated. We can definitely confirm the comments about overbooking, bad air due to the smell of food, too many people in the room. Unfortunately we won't be coming back for a while. Maybe the team needs to reorganize first.

Food was incredibly good! Full recommendation! The new waiters who caused some chaos were also so nice and handled it so well that it was great!

Cozy, lively, good Austrian restaurant in the Simon-Dach-Kiez. Service very competent, friendly and careful. Food good. The Wiener Schnitzel was nice and thin, well fried and crispy! The Kaiserschmarn is delicious. It is very plentiful and in the end it took a while to prepare! Overall a great visit, but reservations recommended! Card payment no problem.

PRO: Spontaneously got two seats without reservation, service very friendly, atmosphere cozy CONTRA: Very manageable portions at high (inflated) prices, "nothing" special - not even for the "attentive eye", wobbly seating, no hanging options for jackets, "Hinterland" very rubbish & dingy... Unfortunately not worth another visit!!

Nice, but just too crowded in the run-up to Christmas.

We had made reservations for a Christmas party for 14 people. We were told on site that the reservation had been cancelled. Nobody could tell us who or when. The staff tried hard and, after a long time back and forth, set up a table for us. In a more than overcrowded room, another table was placed next to a row of tables. Despite our best efforts, it was impossible for all of us to sit there. There were fewer places than people. In addition, someone had to sit in the aisle near the kitchen and someone had to sit in the aisle to the toilet. Both suboptimal. There was no air in the room and it was very loud. You barely understood your own words. We then decided to leave the restaurant. Therefore I can't rate the food.

We made a reservation for 4 people with the expectation of eating their famous schnitzel. Upon our arrival we were informed by the manager that there was no table available for us even though he saw our reservation on his phone. We insisted on getting a table, he told us to wait until a table is free and after 30-40 minutes we got one at the corner of the restaurant . The place was overcrowded, we didnt even get some water and when the time came for us to order, we were told that there is no schnitzel. It is clear that the personnel is not enough and that the manager puts as many tables as possible to get more money, sacrificing the experience of the customer. It is a shame for a well decorated restaurant to provide such poor service.

Since the old regular waiter is no longer there, things have been going haywire in the shop. As a North Tyrolean, I like to go there with my wife from time to time, but that's history now. We want and expect to be served by appropriately trained staff with a certain demeanor that we know from home, and not by over-planned or crazy hippies who can't remember two drinks, let alone are familiar with the processes in the restaurant. In addition, now an average of €80 for two people on top, but with all my love you don't even pay that in Austria, my friend, and the service is just right! His work colleagues must have made the old waiter so upset because he was always complaining for the last few months before he quit. My condolences to the shop but it had something on it. We are now going to Prenzlberg to the Austrian restaurant, I can only recommend it!!!

Amazing Austurian experience with great stuff.

Unfortunately, the first impression is bad. The entrance door is very dirty (half an hour after opening), the toilet and everything that goes with it are in a miserable condition, a quick look through a slightly open curtain into a chaotic and dirty storage room continues the impression that the menus are messed up. Service, cutlery, plates and presentation of the food really do not correspond to the high prices. Some of the dishes were even broken in some places. Unfortunately, the food itself was only slightly better. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed here and the prices are really out of proportion.

Unfortunately very chaotic, far too crowded and too loud, orders were forgotten several times. Unfortunately, the price/performance ratio for the food isn't right either. Not again :(

The quality of the food was very good. Unfortunately, the ambience fell short of expectations. The restaurant was overbooked, the noise was almost unbearable, and the waiting times were very long. It was incomprehensible that delivery services whose drivers were queued in the entrance area were also being served at the same time.

I was recommended this place some time ago. Had been once. Schnitzel was ok, environment was ok. Today we made a reservation, showed up on time and there was not table. The waiters did their best to stall us, while being passive-aggressive. When confronted they would say they’d be overbooked and kept shifting the responsibility form one to each other and ultimately to a “chef”. It took them 30min to sit us in a table and we had to wait another 25mim to order. We tried to order schnitzel, they didn’t have anymore. We left already around 9:30pm. It was very hard to find another place in the area, since most restaurants close around this time. I’m never coming back.

NEVER EVER GO THERE. I could give 0 Stars I would do it. We booked for 4 people. They let us wait for 15 minutes to tell us that there's no table for us and the chef is responsible (lol). We waited 45 minutes without water even and after 1 hour they told us there's not even schnitzel ,which is why we went there. Worst place in Friedrichshain!

We had reserved a table for seven people, which was already occupied when we arrived. The other guests were then moved, but in principle such situations should not be necessary. The operators seem to want to generate maximum profit from the area with minimal effort. The room is extremely crampedly furnished and was unacceptably full, with the effects of complete overheating and a noise level that made it impossible to have a conversation except with the person directly sitting next to you. It also seems to be saved on the staff, because this did not make the impression of being professionally trained. The toilets (only one for men and women) are also impossible: very run-down, with sliding doors that are still loose on their hinges, cannot be closed properly and an empty soap dispenser. The food was partly good, apart from the aqueous spaetzle, but unfortunately the side dishes were only delayed. The beer was warm, you had to open the wine bottle yourself. After a certain time we were told that our stay had expired and we had to leave the restaurant. I can't accept an argument that this is a rustic, authentic restaurant. Because the high prices that are quoted here should lead to the expectation of a corresponding standard. The operators probably rely on tourists as walk-in customers, in whom there is supposedly no effort to invest. For us it was the last visit to this snack bar.

Nice quaint restaurant. Almost nothing is the same. Very nice and friendly service. Price performance is already very high.

After 1 hour we were told to leave the shop because our table would soon be reserved again, even though a beer and dessert had been ordered. The dessert was then given to us to-go, but by the time someone picked it up, our dessert was cold too. There wasn't a fork to eat it on the go... our neighboring tables were also thrown out... all in all the service was terrible. The atmosphere is far too loud and cramped and the food is very tasty, but also very expensive. 30 euros for a schnitzel with fries 🫠 which you don't even have enough time to finish... In the end, a very disappointing experience. We won't come back 😡 and we can't recommend it to anyone...

Was totally full! Luckily we reserved a table! Otherwise, no complaints!

I was there with a group of 6 people at 6:30 p.m. Our table was not prepared. You have over-reserved yourself. But we quickly got a place. The service, when it was there, was very friendly. You could still tell that she was stressed. Unfortunately, they forgot to deliver our main course for an hour because they didn't clear away the starter and so didn't let the kitchen know. The schnitzel was more breading than meat. I can't recommend it. The conclusion I would give is: try hard. I keep my fingers crossed that you get better. The concept is fundamentally not bad. Unfortunately you won't see me again anytime soon.

The food was very tasty and met expectations. The Kaiserschmarrens was great and tasty. Otherwise, a clear recommendation if you ever happen to be in Berlin. Very good cuisine with something different like kebab or currywurst with fries or burgers.

We had made reservations in advance for a very large group and had already selected our menus. We were greeted with extremely bad "jokes" that almost caused me to leave immediately. Drinks were forgotten and had to be ordered several times. There wasn't enough room for everyone and we were supposed to slide together, but we were almost sitting on the lap of the person next to us. The chestnut soup was unseasoned and the foam on top was gray. Gray on brown doesn't look appetizing and was returned uneaten. The cannelloni was just as unseasoned and extra al dente, i.e. chewy. The dessert for the vegan menu was changed spontaneously and instead of vegan Schmarrn there was a (non-) baked apple. It was extremely loud inside. The music was particularly loud in the back corner. I can't recommend going. Maybe it's more pleasant for meat eaters, but then please don't offer anything vegetarian/vegan if you can't make it taste halfway. And please do not agree to large groups.

The food was really very tasty. Unfortunately, the ambience was not convincing at all. We sat at a table in the middle of the room and had to scream at each other the whole evening because it was unbearably loud in the restaurant. We then ordered a dessert, which we waited for at least half an hour. After we asked several times and it still didn't come, we decided against it because conversation was no longer possible after a group of 20 men were still sitting in the store.

Brilliant schnitzels 10/10, I recommend the plain schnitzel, without sauce (the sauce is good, but bitter), the set includes cranberries and lemon, which is a great combination. Plus beer, EUR 4.80 for 0.5l. Really good food!!!!!

Great vibe, friendly service, amazing Wiener Schnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn to die for! This restaurant is perfect for bigger groups, because it has long tables. My friends and I will definitely be back!

It is an absolute nuisance that a Stiegl sign adorns the entrance to your restaurant and thereby raises expectations that are subsequently disappointed. On the first visit there was no sign of Stiegl, and on the second visit we were only offered bottled goods - a far cry from what such a sign promises. This not only looks unprofessional, but also leaves a bad aftertaste. Please take down the sign if you cannot meet the associated requirements. It's just sad.

Very good Austrian restaurant with an excellent selection and quality. An absolute recommendation is the Kaiserschmarrn! It can more than keep up with its Austrian and Bavarian siblings. Service super friendly and quick. Card payment is possible here, which is rather an exception in this corner of Berlin. Unfortunately it was a bit crowded. You should therefore reserve seats in advance. Small deduction in the B grade because the restaurant with so many people was poorly ventilated at some point. Otherwise everything is great!

The only positive thing was that the service was friendly overall, but that was it. There were three of us and we waited almost half an hour until we could order drinks and food. The beer was lukewarm and one glass was dirty or there were herbs floating in the beer. After the tables around us had all received their food, 2 of the 3 ordered dishes arrived at some point. The spinach dumplings were good, the veal schnitzel was okay, the fried potato soup - which only came after two people had already eaten it - was unfortunately completely tasteless. We then canceled the Kaiserschmarren because we didn't feel like waiting any longer. All in all, the evening was a failure - unfortunately.

Unfortunately, cheese spaetzle was very bland, and the schnitzel no longer had potato and cucumber salad, only cucumber salad. We therefore ordered fries as a side dish instead, and in the end the schnitzel without potato salad was charged the same price as with potato salad + the fries, ketchup and mayo were each charged separately. Apple spritzer was very watery and also had ice cubes in it. Service was difficult to get and overall it was really too expensive. Price performance is not right, we won't go there again.

First of all, the food was very tasty.. small, cute restaurant. Unfortunately, I have to say that after 90 minutes you are asked to leave again because the table has already been reserved again. It's not possible at all. You advertise that your food is freshly prepared and takes time. Unfortunately, that doesn't fit together. 2 hours is a reasonable amount of time that you should give your guests. And if I open the restaurant at 5 p.m. and don't have gin with it, that's also a no go

Came here for my birthday with a big group of 17 people. They managed a table for all of us after reservation and welcomed us warmly. Service was attentive and efficient despite the big table and food was amazing. I really enjoy the Schnitzel and Käse Spätzle! Overall a great experience🤩 thanks again to the team, will come back!

Als wir um 18.30h kamen Ware der Laden gut gefüllt. Leider hatte man unsere zwar auf dem Zettel, jedoch keinen passenden Tisch frei. Erst wurden andere Gäste umgesetzt, dann nach einiger Zeit wir ebenfalls. Karten bekamen wir nur auf Nachfrage und bis die Bestellung aufgenommen wurde dauerte es ebenfalls ca. 30min. Leider wurden wir dann erstmal vergessen und unsere Essen bekamen wir nach mehr als einer Stunde. Kaum waren wir fertig wurde wir gebeten zu gehen, da jede Reservierung nur auf 1.5 Std ausgelegt ist. 1.5Std würde auch reichen, wenn man sein Essen bekommen. So kam es echt unfreundlich rüber. Der Vollständigkeitshalber sei erwähnt, dass das Essen gut war, auch wenn es um 18.30h kein Brot und andere Sachen nicht mehr gab. Schnitzel Essen kam man wo anders auch gut und bekommt wahrscheinlich besseren Service.

Good food, a bit on the pricey side.

The famous Schnitzelpuff, amazing food, clear traditional cuisine, and good Salzburg beer. The ambience is rustic, nostalgic... the dining room is small, narrow and it's damn loud, you sit on hard wooden benches close to each other, you have to like that... but the house is really cult.

We've had this restaurant on our list for a long time and were excited to finally try it out today. Unfortunately we were disappointed. It may be that the kitchen was having a bad day, but both the potatoes in the potato and cucumber salad and the celery schnitzel were partly raw or not on point. What was particularly noticeable was that one of the celery schnitzels was very well done and tasty - that made the difference even more noticeable. Unfortunately, we also didn't think the price of the dish was reasonable, with a single dumpling for €12. In comparable restaurants in Berlin you can often get two to three dumplings for the price. All in all, unfortunately not what we had hoped for.

The food was delicious, but the service and overall experience was horrible! We had a reservation but were seated at a table in a tiny corner which did not even had a cloth. The one room is tiny and was completely packed. It took more than 50 minutes for our food to arrive, and the waiter had to ask multiple times what we ordered. After taking our order, which for some reason was not possible via the iPad, the waiter changed our table number and told us to remember it for them. The stiegl beer is officially sold in 0.33 bottles, but they also sell 0.5 cups, which they mix from several bottles and other cups. Seriously? Why don't you use the 0.5 bottles that you do have? The Käsespätzle were absolutely delicious. Luckily, we got a fresh serving and not the one that we watched waiting at the counter for more than 30 minutes to be delivered. The staff seemed very much overwhelmed and they were all interfering with each other at the bar. In fact, they said that they had admitted to many people for the evening. I am sorry, but this is not my fault. Overall, we were very disappointed and won't recommend nor visit the place ever again.

Quaintly furnished, but could do with a renovation. Service very friendly and quick. The schnitzel was good, but in our opinion the breading was a bit bland and could have been a little crispier. The potato and cucumber salad was very good. It was spicy and everything still had a good bite.

Lots of improvement to do: - loud agressive music while trying to eat in peace - green salade taste like they forgot to wash it - serving cheap lidl products at extremely high prices - sauerkraut tastes like eas bought in a big bucket and heated. - schnitzel crust is not crunchy rather moist. - schnitzel served without the berry jam Either improve ur product quality or lower ur prices.

The goat cheese salad was a dream

The restaurant was packed. Reservation makes sense. Clear map. I chose meat similar to Leberkäs, but breaded. Plus warm potato salad. For dessert I had the Kleiner Kaiserschmarrn. I didn't know the way it was made in Austria. The finished baked parts with raisins and almonds were very good. Unfortunately the middle was too squishy, ​​which I didn't like at all and was therefore very powerful. Service was good. Drinks ok. What bothers me about the ambience is the old furniture thrown together. Which I'm sure others like, but unfortunately I don't. Still worth recommending.

I had a craving for schnitzel on Sunday evening and ordered the Wiener Schnitzel, Käsespätzle and Kaiserschmarrn. Everything was so delicious, I'm happy to pay for it. Very friendly service, pleasant atmosphere. The quality of the food was rather mediocre: there was nothing wrong with the breaded celery schnitzels - especially because cranberries were served with them. The homemade vegetable soup with semolina dumplings was nicely served in a small soup pot with semolina dumplings. The ingredients for the potato and cucumber salad were fresh - but the salad, which was a bit too sour and too runny, didn't taste particularly good. What should be highlighted positively is that the team employee responded positively to the criticism of the vegetable broth. That was three years ago. Maybe the situation has improved now.

Food was great, although not exactly cheap. We couldn't get 2 food orders. Stable burnt down, so no fried chicken salad... Juice goulash from... Whiskey from... Unfortunately, the Mutzenbacher has a new owner. You notice this both in the food (decreasing quality) but especially in the service! Here one star is still far too many. I don't know how many times the waiter walked past our table without taking further orders. Tables also remained uncleared and new customers were sent away anyway. It's a shame about this institution, but I won't visit it again.

The food was great! Unfortunately, it didn't seem like the staff particularly enjoyed their work or were interested in customer concerns. It was all a bit lackluster. The table directly by the door is not recommended in the cold season as it gets very drafty whenever the door is open and above seems to be the only window for ventilation. So there's still a bit of room for improvement here, but it's definitely worth it for the food!

One star for the tasty schnitzel, the service shouldn't be called service. The Kaiserschmarrn is simply a complete disaster. Atmosphere uncomfortable and tired. Yes, we are in hip Friedrichshain, but with the prices you should at least make a little effort.

Excellent food, the staff changes often but is always friendly. The restaurant is located in lively Friedrichshain, if you like quiet in the evening... That's the wrong place :) it's sociable and lively!

Holleridudödeldi...😁, if you like good food, if you like hospitality, if you like fun and good mood - this is the place for you👍🏼... There were four of us and we were hungry. The selection is good, as are the prices. Highly recommended is the Tyrolean sausage salad as a starter or the Kaiserschmarrn (which you can also try to eat as a main course😉)... The Wienerschnitzel is airy, the breading is light and the veal meat is very well prepared. Served with slightly warmed potato and cucumber salad which was extremely tasty. My wife was able to enjoy a juice goulash which she really enjoyed. Our companion enjoyed spinach dumplings and the delicious fried chicken salad. The crowning achievement is and was, as many have often mentioned here, the Kaiserschmarrn....an impossibly large portion that you can't manage on your own, so that everyone at the table got a delicious dessert...😋. .. The ambience is due to the trendy district and has its character - you like it or you don't like it... We would like to thank you again for the hospitality and will definitely pass on a recommendation.

Mutzenbacher - the schnitzel puff - is a good place to go for lovers of Austrian cuisine. The restaurant is located near Warschauer Straße. The schnitzels are sufficient, reasonably priced and also delicious. The store isn't particularly big, but that's exactly what gives it its charm. The mashed potatoes are only recommended as a side dish! The service is attentive, quick and well structured. At the end there is a “nightcap” on the house. It's a pleasure :)

Excellent cuisine, friendly team

I don't quite understand the concept - rustic furnishings, but modern house, techno music, that doesn't fit together in my opinion. The service leaves a lot to be desired, the staff is neither qualified nor capable of criticism. For me, the Wiener Schnitzel is actually just a breading - look at the photo and you'll know what I mean. Half is hollow, it just looks big. The meat is also very tough and that with a “veal schnitzel”??? The fries weren't crispy enough, so they were also a letdown. If you like Austrian cuisine, you're in good hands here. The Kaiserschmarrn was absolutely amazing. Caramelized with almonds, cream mixed with cranberries, delicious applesauce and plum roast - simply delicious!!!

Omg the best service at Berlin and food great

I ate there yesterday with my family, to be honest the service was nice and OK, but to be honest we didn't like the food at all, the schnitzel was very tough and we personally didn't like it that much. And at the end there was literally the receipt, 106 euros for 2 schnitzels, 2 children's schnitzels, 4 fries, 4 drinks and 1 salad. My husband and I really had to swallow because we were told at the beginning that the fries and the schnitzel counted as one menu, but that wasn't the case. Honestly for this price we could have eaten something a thousand times better somewhere else - I've eaten better for less money. All I can say is it's not worth it. I don't understand why the store has so many stars, maybe a lot of people eat there after parties and then think it tastes good. I can only advise you against it

Great restaurant! Very kind waiter knowing that we came for dinner around 9:45 p.m. (quite late for Berlin). The dishes are delicious and original. We enjoyed ourselves.

The Wienerschnitzel was nothing special, the cucumber potato salad was a tragedy, everything was very salty and the wine was German. too warm, the menu didn't work. For me, the Mutzenbacher is a classic tourist check-in point in which, as is so often the case in F-hain, the price-performance ratio is simply not right. My wife felt the same way. What a shame! The schnitzel is a real schnitzel. This is rare in Berlin. And it tastes good. It was perhaps a little small and the presentation a little bland. The service colleagues are friendly and do a good job. What even the best waiter is powerless against is the crowd of people who push past you while you're eating, including the occasional bullying junkie, because you're sitting in a popular tourist hotspot. And the wobbly chairs made us worried about breaking in while eating. I tried three different ones. Conclusion: Great shop, but unfortunately not in my top 3 for schnitzel in Berlin.
