The ambiance is very authentic, and the food seems to be as well. It's not really my kind of cuisine, so I'd only give it 4 stars personally, but my colleagues seemed to enjoy it! However, I find the prices a bit steep, hence the deduction. The desserts are all highly recommended, though – absolutely delicious!

The rather small restaurant was packed, the efficient waiters and waitresses were on the ball, and the food was exceptionally delicious. There was absolutely nothing to complain about. Kudos and hats off! I'll be back.

Tried the Spinatknödel, was absolutely amazing

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it here...very small room...we had a reservation for 16 people...arrived on time...the team was overwhelmed...the table wasn't prepared, some of us had to sit separately...just for the reservation, ugh. The staff seemed overwhelmed. The room's decor took some getting used to. The benches were hard, and cushions weren't available everywhere. There was thick dust on the lamps, and dust bunnies clinging to the ceiling light. A cleaning would be a good idea. The food was very expensive. For example, a bread plate with small slices of bread, some quark, and herb butter cost €5.00. The bread wasn't fresh. Dishes weren't cleared away; we had to point it out. The toilet was also unusual. The trash can was overturned, and the door didn't close properly. I'm giving the food one star because the Kaiserschmarrn was really delicious, but also quite expensive. So, it wasn't good value for money. The waitress was very nice, which is why I'm giving it one star. I don't understand what people find great about it. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

We decided to hold our Christmas party there, and I was particularly excited. For our starter, we had the sausage salad, which looked fantastic and arrived quickly from the kitchen, but it was too vinegary for my taste. The accompanying bread roll was excellent. For my main course, I had the meatloaf with potato salad. The breaded meatloaf was really interesting and very good. The potatoes were cooked perfectly, but again, there was too much vinegar for my liking. It was served with sweet and regular mustard, the regular of which tasted a bit musty. The chef can't be blamed for that, but it's normal with some mustards (mostly the ones in tubs); you either love it or hate it. The sweet mustard was perfectly normal, but great. However, I wasn't impressed with the service. The food was served, and then you sat there wondering if you were going to have to eat everything with your fingers. There were 15 people and no cutlery. In the end, you had to find your own cutlery from the items at the entrance, where it seemed like everyone was grabbing them. It was served with sweet and regular mustard, and the regular mustard had a slightly musty taste. At the time, there were only three people serving, which is understandable with nearly 50 guests, but their attentiveness was practically nonexistent. By far the worst experience I've ever had. It got to the point where people preferred to walk to the corner store across the street and buy their beer or other drinks there. Breaks are important, but when guests are waiting inside for drinks and cutlery while the staff are busy smoking, I don't know who's doing anything wrong. After the meal, I waited for the waitstaff again and ordered another drink, because no one comes on their own. But when no one came after 20 minutes, I gathered my things and went to pay, because again, no one approaches you. Of course, no tip. All in all, the price was okay, the quality adequate, but the service, in my opinion, was a disaster. But it started badly right at the entrance. I had a reservation for 7:30, arrived on time, and was asked to wait outside because there were no tables available. Of course, it's fun at 0 degrees. I'll never come back!

Easy online reservation. Very friendly service. Cozy, simple restaurant. Space is limited. Unfortunately, the Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) were rather mushy and tasteless. Like many restaurants, they also use time slots. We weren't aware of this beforehand. So we only had 90 minutes for drinks, main course, and dessert. A shame, as the atmosphere was otherwise pleasant. Payment is accepted by card and cash.

This is terrible for Wolt's delivery service; they don't respect the courier and don't ask why they're there, so the service is unfortunately poor. I hope they don't ignore their delivery customers

The Schnitzel had a perfect paniert! The meat itself lacked a little bit of taste. The Kaiserschmarrn was really delicious. Service is good and cozy small environment.

It's really lovely... Unfortunately, the tables were hopelessly overbooked, and we only had two hours for our Christmas party before we had to leave. Hence, only three stars for service. Everything else was great 👍

We had a truly wonderful evening. The service was so friendly and efficient, you almost felt like they could read our minds. The veal schnitzel was divine, golden brown on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth tender on the inside, and the side dishes were equally delicious. The drinks were also excellent and always arrived promptly. The restaurant is small and incredibly cozy. This means it can get a bit noisy at times, but that's part of its charm. For this neighborhood, the prices are surprisingly affordable, which is almost unexpected given the quality. If you're looking for a truly excellent Wiener Schnitzel, this is the place to go. We'll definitely be back!

Unfortunately, the online ordering process isn't as good as it looks in the photos: the cheese dumplings are missing onions, and the Kaiserschmarrn is missing applesauce and plum compote.

I've never experienced a restaurant visit quite like this: Despite having a reservation, we had to wait outside in the cold for 30 minutes until a table became available – but then they promised us complimentary dessert (more on that later). The first round of beer arrived – warm. When we asked about it, we were told they couldn't keep up with refilling the bottles. Right. The food arrived; one person found a large piece of plastic packaging among their dumplings, another's goose was below average. My schnitzel was actually quite good. Then, when we ordered dessert, came the final disappointment of the evening: The kitchen had closed early and without warning due to the chef being overworked. I feel sorry for everyone who has to work there, but that was truly awful. I'm giving it two stars because of the schnitzel.

When I inquired about a reservation for the same evening, a woman answered the phone and burst out laughing. I probably shouldn't go there in the future, but good luck with that kind of hospitality!

I made a reservation for 8 people, but we ended up being 11. It was impossible to change the reservation through Google, so I called the person who told me on the phone that it wasn't a problem, that they had checked our request for 11 people, would confirm it, and cancel the one for 8. The result: They canceled our reservation for 11 people by email the day before and kept the one for 8. Of course, we can't go now. I find it unacceptable that they didn't even bother to call! It's Saturday, and now it's difficult to find a restaurant for 11 people. Thanks a lot, the customer service is terrible!

Went there yesterday with friends. The verdict: The veal schnitzel was cold. The breading had completely fallen off. No more cold Stiegel beer at 4:00 PM. The restaurant is in a very run-down state. The whole place was covered in cobwebs. The staff seemed overwhelmed. The restroom was typical for the area: smeared and dirty. We won't be going back. Very overpriced.

The food was absolutely outstanding, every dish full of flavor and beautifully presented. You can tell the chef really cares about quality. The only downside was the service, which was a bit slow at times. Still, totally worth the wait for such delicious food.

We had high hopes for this place because my wife and I live nearby, but I was so disappointed by the quality of the schnitzel. The pastry fell apart from the meat, the meat had no flavor, and the price was a total rip-off! I did like the atmosphere, though. It's a shame they only served bottled beer in a supposedly "family-friendly" and "traditional" place. Never again!

Anyone who takes their schnitzel apart and examines it is beyond help. Highly recommended! And be sure to order Kaiserschmarrn for dessert!

I'm having a hard time giving Mutzenbacher a good review. The service was initially friendly, but slow and not very Austrian. Beer was only available from bottles – all without foam. Then came the veal schnitzel: three original veal schnitzels, two with about 80% meat content, one with only 60% (in terms of diameter). The rest: breading, breading, breading. However, the service reacted very professionally and brought a small replacement piece with the comment: "Unfortunately, that happens sometimes." Nevertheless: For almost €30, I expect buttery soft meat – this was borderline. Unfortunately, many of the reviews here tell the same story. The potato and cucumber salad was very good. Pepper and salt were also missing from all tables. The cheese spaetzle alone certainly justified the asking price. Hence three stars, otherwise it would have been a maximum of two. The Kaiserschmarrn: well caramelized, but compact and lacking in fluffiness. The ambiance? Something between a simple pub and an Austrian decor mix, a bit worn, but later, as it filled up, quite pleasant. There were four of us and we paid around €180. What we were offered was worth at most half that. A questionable evening from a culinary perspective – saved by our guests. My final tip: Just buy a better product and spend a euro more, learn how to make Kaiserschmarrn properly, and it would definitely get four stars.

The restaurant says "Schnitzelpuff" and that's exactly what the schnitzel was like. You cut into it, and it goes "puff." After an hour, we were escorted out of the restaurant so the table could be reassigned. We had a reservation, by the way.

Formerly called a schnitzel puff. A seemingly large schnitzel arrives. I place the knife on it—it puffs, and half of it is air under the sauce, the other half is a tough piece of meat... After an hour, we were asked to pay, as the next guests were already waiting. We had a reservation. The ambiance was very nice.

A truly fantastic restaurant! We can't recommend a specific dish: simply because everything tastes incredibly delicious. You can tell that the food is cooked with love. The staff is very friendly and creates a pleasant atmosphere every time. Since we discovered the place, we've been coming here regularly. Our personal favorite: the Käsespätzle, simply divine! If you like good Austrian cuisine, this is the place for you.

It's a shame. The service is good again (even if parts of the food were initially forgotten and then brought back much later), but what happened to the food?! The schnitzel used to be good, but now it's just dry and bland, and the fries are too salty. The beetroot dumplings were also tasteless and were lukewarm at best. That also explains why the usually full place was extremely empty. We always enjoyed going there, even when the service was occasionally just awful. But the value for money is no longer good at all. Unfortunately, I no longer recommend it.

We made a reservation for August 19th and went. There were three of us sitting outside. We ate veal schnitzel, chicken schnitzel, and salad. The food was really delicious and the service was top-notch and very friendly. The place itself was very cozy. I highly recommend it.

The place is unkempt, with thick cobwebs on the ceiling, among other things. It took a very long time to place our order, and our drinks didn't arrive for almost an hour. The food, however, arrived relatively quickly shortly afterward. We then had to wait another 20 minutes for the bill. The staff were very overwhelmed with serving a large group at the same time. Several items on the menu were unavailable or no longer available in sufficient quantities. For example, the bread turned out to be extremely dry, and the spread was rock-hard. The other main courses were okay, but nothing special. Finally, a waiter accidentally poured beer on one of our jackets. All of these things can happen, but overall, it wasn't a good evening and I wouldn't recommend it.

I ordered from Lieferando today. Unfortunately, the food ran out, which can happen. After calling the restaurant, they didn't apologize at all. Absolutely no-go and not customer-focused. That's how you lose a customer.

We ordered the ribs and pork and goulash for two. We also received some very good pasta or gnocchi and mashed potatoes. The quality far exceeded our expectations. Perhaps even a single dish for two to share would be enough with a few starters.

Food is good but I think they were understaffed that day so you can see them stressing and messing things up like forgetting to bring out the food, charging wrong items to the table, forgetting the drinks

I can only agree with the previous reviewer...unfortunately, the schnitzel was very small, extremely thin, and the side dishes weren't at all convincing. The service was also almost nonexistent. I'd give it 3 stars for the taste of the schnitzel, but I'd turn a blind eye. At that price, I wouldn't recommend it.

Cannot recommend. None of the staff could speak English. They didn't even understand when we said "table for 4 people". After that it took a long time before we got the menus. We ended up going to the bar and asking if we were supposed to order there or if they were going to bring menus. Then they brought menus to the table. We ordered four beers (got warm glasses straight from the dishwasher). Ordered in German/English based on the menu but they barely understood. Despite this they asked if we wanted to order dessert(??) at the same time as we ordered the main course. During the long wait for the food we lit our own candle on the table even though everyone else had candles on the table. The food was just okay. When we got the food we ordered 4 new beers. We never got these. We paid and left dissatisfied.

28 July, 2025. Great Austrian food in a fun Berlin Groove (Kiez) location. Had a supernice young lady for the service. Exceptional Saftgulasch, Wiener Schnitzel and Marillenknödel for a reasonable budget.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the last time I felt so ripped off. Even though there were only two tables occupied in the entire restaurant when we arrived, the waiter ignored us for 15 minutes and only brought us the menus after I approached him directly to be served. Another 20 minutes passed and I had to go back into the restaurant to tell the waiter that we would now like our order taken. The schnitzel for 27 euros looked very appealing, but consisted almost entirely of breadcrumbs; you could only finally get meat 3 cm from the edge in. The salad was tasty, but also not much. Since we were still hungry after the small portion, we ordered Kaiserschmarrn, which took another 35 minutes to arrive. In the entire time we were there, the waiter never asked us once if we wanted anything else or how we liked it. We also had to go back inside to pay because the waiter simply didn't come to our table.

We received very friendly service. Unfortunately, the starters and main course arrived together.

The best veal schnitzel in a long time. Tonight was perfect; the schnitzel side dishes and the Kaiserschmarrn couldn't have been better. The latter was unbeatably good! I've rarely eaten such good Kaiserschmarrn!! Hopefully it stays this way 😉.

I definitely do NOT recommend this restaurant. The Viennese veal schnitzel with potato salad and cucumbers was of poor quality, and the small portion was completely overpriced for the price (almost €30). At first glance, the schnitzel appears to be a normal size. Unfortunately, upon cutting into it, we discovered that the edges were just 3-4 cm thick and breaded. Then came the meat, which was perfectly thin but far too dry. It felt like a rip-off. The small portion of potato and cucumber salad was mushy. The radish garnish was visibly dried out. The service was extremely inattentive and slow, even though the restaurant was only about a quarter full at the time of our visit. We waited 45 minutes for our food. The outside of the table was sticky and hadn't been wiped down after the previous guests. Conclusion: We will definitely never eat here again.

Oh, we came here because the reviews were good. But that was not our experience. We waited an unreasonable long time for the food. We moved for the food. It came. We got a bad schnapps as compensation. The food was really not worth the money. There must be better places in this big, beautiful and wonderful city.

But is it a restaurant or a public toilet? There was a constant coming and going of girls who came in, only to go to the bathroom paying a tip. It is not very nice to eat and have this scene. The meat was half of the cutlet, it was just breading. Waiting for an hour and a half with an empty place for a cutlet. Even the potato salad could have been a little richer. I really do not understand how you can manage a place like this. I can say instead that kaiserschmatter was very good. Finally, the last unpleasant thing the naked woman on a crucifix I do not understand the point, you have freedom of thought but you could also offend.

We ate there for the first time yesterday. The restaurant itself was very nicely done, but very cramped, and when it's full, it's not cozy. We both ordered the Wiener Schnitzel. When it arrived, it looked really good. But it only looked good...the meat was tough, which suggests it had been cut incorrectly. It was almost impossible to cut or chew. The biggest joke, though, was...under the breading, the veal schnitzel was only a third the size. The meat became so small that we only ate the breading. We complained. After all, you pay €27.50! We then each got a second Wiener Schnitzel on the house. Well, it was a little better, but the same problem...the breading was twice as big as the meat. So, we won't go there again. In the end, we paid €74 and were very disappointed. The service was good. At least they offered us a second schnitzel right away. But from their reaction, it was clear they'd had this problem before. Their response was: "...it's completely normal for it to shrink...it loses water..." The service responded well and did their best in the situation. Hence the 4 stars.

It used to be a favorite restaurant with the very best service and excellent cuisine. People were happy to pay more. Last week's visit was unfortunately extremely disappointing. The place was only half full at most. It took 15 minutes for the first service encounter. The service was more reminiscent of a student cafeteria. The food is tasty, but a bit overpriced, and the overall impression is unfortunately no longer up to scratch. The staff, while friendly, are clearly overwhelmed and not properly trained in the restaurant industry (especially not in that price range). This really spoils the overall experience. After returning as long-time guests for a special occasion, another visit is out of the question for now. Too bad, we thought Mutzenbacher was still a safe bet.

Very tasty asparagus and Wienerschnitzel, relaxed, friendly atmosphere on wooden tables. For some people it could be crowded at times and missing a proper ventilation with fresh air, but we were fine. Definitely recommended.

We've been ordering here for years when we want to treat ourselves (the prices are a bit higher) because the food actually tastes very good. Today, however, we were extremely disappointed: The cheese spaetzle were not only completely unseasoned, they had the consistency of porridge. The celery schnitzels were dry and the potato and cucumber salad was completely missing. That means for €18.50 we got 5 dry breaded celery slices... At least the Kaiserschmarn reached us as expected. In our opinion, for the price level of this restaurant, the quality of the food should be at least consistently average, but never worse than commercial kitchen quality. Sorry Mutzenbacher, but that was an underwhelming disappointment!

For your information, you can get Beelitz asparagus here! Even if it's not cheap, the taste is impressive! If you still have room in your stomach, treat yourself to the Kaiserschmarren!

Can't recommend the restaurant. Completely overpriced and the food wasn't good. Asparagus soup was too salty, potato cucumber salad was sour and there was way too much vinegar. Schnitzel and fries were totally dry. Better go somewhere else.

Quickly have a schnitzel with potato and cucumber salad or butter spaetzle and a wheat yeast. Perfect. The prices are salty but the schnitzel is definitely fried in clarified butter. It's best to place drinks in one order, otherwise you'll get a bad look. ;-). Otherwise everything was great and I'll be back.

Unfortunately we can't really recommend the restaurant. Food was okay, but the restaurant is extremely crowded. There were 6 of us and we were moved twice within 2 hours because larger and larger groups were announced. That shows really bad organization. Eat in peace? None! There was no beer on tap and only one type of beer that was already chilled. The selection was correspondingly small or non-existent. The waiter also has the food on the menu e.g. T. not recommended and unfortunately also commented on how much you had achieved ("for a woman you've really eaten a lot")... I found that very offensive, even if he was actually nice. All in all we found it absolutely disappointing and will definitely not be coming back. It's a real shame because the location and ambience are really great.

Several years ago "Mutzi" was my first choice if I wanted to eat well, in a nice atmosphere, chat with cool people and also drink Schnapss which I won't forget for the rest of my life (if I remember correctly it was strong alcohol in a glass + a slice of dried speck + fresh horseradish: drinking system like tequila) I was there for the first time since then just today. The decor is almost unchanged: I love it. Kitsch is my middle name. As for the food: I ordered a classic: Veal Schnitzel accompanied by potato and cucumber salad. The schnitzel was smaller than it used to be (and more expensive) and the salad in laboratory quantities. As for the salad no objections (crisp, juicy, correct) but the Schnitzel: if not for the river flowing nearby I would have died of over-salting. I understand that after weekend parties the kitchen may have dulled taste buds, but that's the amount of salt it takes in throughout the week. Nevertheless: probably because of my sentiment for the place, I recommend it. Maybe not on Sunday

That was a very nice evening. At first I thought that the space right next to the counter wasn't right, but over the course of the evening we were served drinks by all the wait staff. From a trendy bar to a tourist bar, but only if you come early. On Thursday at 9 p.m. in the middle of Berlin I was rudely sent away. “The kitchen is already closed.” In any case, the visitor from Switzerland had a good laugh. In the middle of the nightlife district in the cosmopolitan city of Berlin, the unfriendly temporary worker sends you away again. As a regular from the very beginning, you can of course run down a traditional restaurant.

Very nice restaurant with great food and drinks. A small selection but everything was very tasty! The only downside is that you may have to forego stylish glasses because there don't seem to be enough of all types available. But it didn't bother us at all and the service was first class! I am a neighbor of the neighborhood and I still remember when they opened the business, I think it was about 7 or 8 years ago. I have been many times over the years and I haven't been in a while. I went last week and I think it has changed owners, I have seen different workers and they have changed the menu a little. The food has gotten worse but it's okay, still. But the service is bad, just bad. It would be good service at the burgermeister or any hipster place in Neukolln but I'm not going to pay 27e for a plate of food with such bad service, I'm sorry. It seems to me that the price does not match the food nor of course the service. I'm sorry but last time...

We were on the way to a wonderful concert evening and wanted to have something delicious for dinner. Our choice fell on the Mutzenbacher. Our choice was a direct hit. The service staff was very nice and accommodating. The meal, a veal schnitzel with fries - was perfect! We felt very comfortable and will come back - promised!

Unfortunately I can't rate the food. After 15 minutes in the almost empty restaurant and repeated eye contact with the waitress (who didn't greet me either), I still didn't get a menu and left. Looks like the restaurant doesn't need any guests.

Overall, not enough quality and service On Saturday evening, the small, cramped shop in the trendy Simon-Dach Kiez is full, busy and loud. Our table near the door is very drafty and cold and the people, some of whom wait longer for their table at the entrance, are almost standing on our feet. In the end we only had two Franziskaner wheat beer and two Wiener schnitzels. The order took a bit because the service was pretty busy with the store full. Accordingly, the service wasn't particularly attentive. The quality of the Wiener Schnitzel was really not good. The meat was partly tough and fibrous and about 1/3 of the schnitzel was just breading without meat. The breading itself and side dish were ok, but nothing special. Overall, in my opinion, unfortunately not recommended if you want to eat a good Wiener Schnitzel in Berlin.

Quaint Austrian restaurant in the trendy area. Food is highly recommended, whether Kaiserschmarrn, dumplings or schnitzel. Everything is great in terms of quantity and quality. Also the prices are still normal. The furnishings take some getting used to, the toilets are very simple and are more reminiscent of a construction site toilet with a curtain. The service is friendly. All in all, recommended.

Food was incredibly good! Full recommendation! The new waiters who caused some chaos were also so nice and handled it so well that it was great!

We have been to the Mutzenbacher several times in the past, but the owner seems to have changed and with it the staff, who are unfortunately very unfriendly and poorly trained. We were ignored for half an hour after we asked twice if we could at least order drinks. Before we were allowed to order after more than 30 minutes, we were shown a new seat because there was probably a large reservation. Then the wrong food was brought. After asking twice, this was still not addressed and was ignored. The restaurant manager tries hard, but his staff is unfriendly and unmotivated. We can definitely confirm the comments about overbooking, bad air due to the smell of food, too many people in the room. Unfortunately we won't be coming back for a while. Maybe the team needs to reorganize first.
