The food is okay so far, but not a special experience either. You can spend a cozy evening here as the atmosphere is very cozy and the shop is always full. You should therefore make a reservation urgently. The waiters are friendly, but I personally found the head waiter a bit stressful. Overall, I think the restaurant is a bit expensive for what it offers.

I enjoy eating here very often with family and friends. The food is really great. However, the service has now become very, very unfriendly. As an Austrian/Viennese, I'm used to grumbling, but yesterday it was just too much. The waitress was consistently unfriendly, but the waiter who didn't actually serve us wasn't much better either. What a shame!

I ordered a deep fried veal with picked cucumbers. They were very tasty. The staff member was friendly and helped me choose this dish. Austrian food is a must-try

Best Wiener schnitzel in Berlin but it comes with the rudest waiter ( we have ever encountered ) that spoils the meal. We have visited many times and will never return while this waiter is in attendance. The two ladies who serve are the total opposite, they are very kind and helpful. Hopefully the man in question is sacked.

If you appreciate Austrian cuisine, you definitely have to try Alt Wien. And please don't always just eat Wiener Schnitzel. This is of course nothing to sneeze at. We had delicious warm boiled beef with fresh horseradish, then curd cheese dumplings and a WS. People know their craft. For dessert we had three kinds of parfait with apple strudel. Also very tasty. Order a table.

The food was really great! I had a veal wiener schnitzel which was cooked perfectly and served with a delicious potato salad. Unfortunately we had to wait 40 minutes for the main course because the service had forgotten our starter. When the waiter finally came, he put us under pressure and explained that it was now our decision: either the food would be thrown away or we would eat the main course first and the starter afterwards. Of course we decided on the main course, but we were a bit confused. Unfortunately there was no apology. Later we wanted to order another bottle of water, but had to wait 15 minutes and even ask again. Little by little we felt like we were no longer welcome. The wait for the bill also dragged on and we had to wait 15 minutes. When we then asked for a receipt, the service employee reacted with a dirty look, threw the receipt on the table without a word and moved on. At that moment we were all shocked and didn't know what was going on. When paying, we consciously decided not to tip because we didn't feel comfortable throughout the evening and felt that we were treated poorly by the service. But the employee didn't want to accept even that and asked us to give a tip. However, we stuck to our decision. It's a real shame because we really enjoyed the food. But this service employee completely ruined our Sunday evening in this restaurant. The only positive aspect of this encounter? We will definitely not forget this evening, even if for the wrong reasons.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We recently had the pleasure of dining at Gasthaus Alt Wien and can say that our visit was a complete success. An important note in advance: Since the restaurant is very popular and often busy, you should definitely make a reservation in good time. If you would like to stay longer than two hours, you should request this in advance. Unfortunately we hadn't done this in advance, but the friendly staff still allowed us to stay seated a little longer. This courteous service was the first plus point of our evening. The interior design is wonderfully rustic and exudes a cozy Viennese flair in which you immediately feel welcome. The waitress was extremely attentive and took care of our wishes with remarkable care. Since the restaurant was full that evening, we were even given a “tactical recommendation” to avoid having to wait 45 minutes for our food. We thought it was great that the team took an active role in making our evening as enjoyable as possible. During our visit we chose Viennese classics that turned out to be real culinary delights. The schnitzel came in perfect breading and was accompanied by a wonderfully seasoned potato and cucumber salad. The roast pork with bread dumplings and sauerkraut, which was beautifully tender and spicy, was also impressive. The crowning finale was the Kaiserschmarren, which was a complete delight with its fluffy consistency and typical sweetness. Overall, the Gasthaus Alt Wien completely impressed us with its harmonious ambience, attentive service and excellent dishes. We can only warmly recommend a visit there and are already looking forward to the next time.

Highest and best schnitzel density in the city. Tried and tested and consistent quality in the neighborhood for almost 15 years. In any case, reservations should be made and in the cold season the thick coats make it a bit cozy at the back of the wardrobe.

it's one of our favorite dishes when it comes to Wiener Schnitzel, the quality of this dish is amazing and be sure to order the whole set with cranberries and potato salad! Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff!

Lovely little authentic place, food and drink were fabulous however the portions are HUGE we ordered tne schnitzel and we would have struggled to eat 1 between the 2 of us let alone a serving each. Service was lovely Only dropped 1 star as I don't like food waste and there wasn't really an atmosphere

I was there with family for Christmas dinner. Food and service were very good. Waiter was friendly and attentive. Despite the full hut! The portions are a bit too big. Especially with Wiener Schnitzel. There is no more room for an appetizer. But Kaiserschmarrn always works. Delicious. We were satisfied. I'll be back.

Good food, the goulash was very tasty, although I would have liked some vegetables with it. The schnitzel was huge, but I personally thought there was too much breading on a super thin piece of meat. The cucumber salad was very fresh and tasty.

We spontaneously ate at this restaurant and were lucky to get a table. A reservation seems necessary to me. We had the onion roast and two 1/4 goose with red and green cabbage, and two Kaiserschmarrn for dessert. The food was very tasty and the service was good.

In general the food was very tasty, there were good portions and a large selection. The service was very friendly but everything could have been a little quicker. The atmosphere was nice too, we sat comfortably by the window. But I think the food was a little overpriced in a few places. I think €25 for a spinach feta strudel is too expensive.

The reservation is only valid for 1.5 hours. Before you even take off your jacket, you are told this. The service man forgot to order our food. We actually had to wait over an hour for our food because he simply forgot it. After we had another 20 minutes to eat, the dishes were taken away from us - as soon as we had put the fork down - and an EC device was placed on the table. When I asked to at least drink my water in peace - I paid EUR 6.90 for the bottle! - was said “No, the others are already waiting” from the presumed owner. When I said that we were waiting an hour for the food he just said "What should I do? It's full". When I told him that we had been forgotten, we were asked to sit at the bar. I find it outrageous and disrespectful to act like this. The food is okay, but nothing special. The guests at 8 p.m. could have easily been seated at the bar for a drink until we finished our drinks. We couldn't have had dessert either because the service man messed up our order and so we had to eat faster anyway. I wonder if my plate would have been taken away if I hadn't finished eating yet. A real disgrace and absolutely not recommended due to a lack of manners. But no matter what - the store is running!

This is a very pleasant restaurant with excellent Austrian food and drink, just like when I lived in Vienna. The problem is the attitude of the proprietor - I booked online and received a confirmation that we had a table for two hours, from 6.30-8.30. On entering, we were informed that we had from 6.30 - 8pm, which was a very peculiar way of greeting a guest. At 7.45 we were told that we had to vacate the table as the next guests had arrived, so we moved to the bar where there was a ‘reserved’ notice! Honestly, it would have been better if the restaurant had not accepted the reservation, but it shows where their priorities lie.

Chance hit while looking for a good Austrian restaurant half an hour away. Were a rehearsal dinner for a birthday group. Reservation recommended, it was quick and easy online. Menu very good. Food looks and tastes great, no frills, one of the best Viennese schnitzels in a long time, visually an eye-catcher. Price-performance ratio is definitely right here. We look forward to our next pre-booked visit to Old Vienna. December 2024, multiple repeat offender, after dinner there are beautiful shops nearby that invite you to take a stroll.

If you go there, you probably shouldn't make a reservation right at 6 p.m. (i.e. not right at the start of opening time). 1. You actually stand in front of the door in the cold until 5:59 p.m. and 59 seconds, even though everything seemed to be ready inside. Unpleasant. 2. You wait a very long time for the food to arrive (1 hour) because all the tables were occupied right from the start (and unfortunately also for the drinks). However, this shouldn't come as a surprise to the staff and they could certainly be better prepared. There was enough time to prepare... see 1. On the subject of ambience... it was really loud when we visited. Among other things, because families let their children run around in the restaurant. Maybe it was due to the “early” reservation (6 p.m.). And of course also the long waiting time, because after an hour it's hard to keep your 3 - 6 year old kids under control. It would also be nice if you received an unsolicited invoice that lists all the orders so that you can see the final amount without asking. But one thing has to be said... the food was great. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The three of us ate there. The waiter was a bit stressed as there were a lot of people in the restaurant and we had to wait rather long as our order had somehow been lost or forgotten. The interior is more reminiscent of an East German wannabe chic dive than the charm of a Viennese restaurant and the service was unfortunately not that friendly. Maybe they know that they sell the best Wiener Schnitzel in Berlin and think that's part of the Viennese charm.

We had no reservation, came there at 19.30, the restaurant was half full, but we were refused to be served since the kitchen was at its limit. No more guests! Very strange, not even a suggestion to take a beer and wait.

We had a reservation for a large group and called over an hour in advance to notify the restaurant of a time change and that fewer guests would be attending. From that first phone call, the staff was unfriendly, but we accepted it as our mistake and moved on. When we arrived, we were not greeted and felt uncomfortable right away as the staff made it clear they were annoyed by the change in plans. We requested an English menu since not everyone spoke German, but the waiter rudely told us there wasn't one and showed visible irritation. We decided to manage with the German menu, but the tone of service was already sour. When it came time to order drinks, the waiter was dismissive and rude, acting as if we were inconveniencing him with our choices. During the meal, two of our guests were delayed due to work and couldn’t make it. The waiter, instead of understanding, started shouting that the situation was "unacceptable," making us feel even worse about something beyond our control. This level of unprofessionalism was shocking. By the end of the meal, we were eager to leave. One of our group paid by card and chose not to leave a tip, which, given the appalling service, was completely justified. At this point, the waiter became even more aggressive, shouting at us and calling over another staff member to intimidate us into tipping. It was an unacceptable, bullying tactic that left us speechless. A tip is meant to reward good service, not something to be demanded through harassment. The behavior of the staff was appalling, and there are plenty of other places in town where you'll be treated with respect—avoid this restaurant at all costs.

The welcome in this restaurant was very cold, without a smile or real courtesy. On the other hand, the food was good. However, at the end of the service, not tipping due to the disappointing service, we were confronted VERY aggressively by a blonde waitress. She insisted that tipping is for cooks and that, unlike in France, it is necessary to tip in Europe. I would like to point out that we do not live in France. So we then offered to leave a tip, but the waitress refused, showing a lack of professionalism for the cooks. If she had expressed this in a more respectful way, everyone would have been satisfied. It's a shame that this person's attitude could harm the restaurant's reputation and customer satisfaction.

I had the pleasure of visiting an Austrian restaurant in the heart of Berlin Prenzlauer Berg and it was an absolute highlight! As soon as I entered the restaurant I immediately felt transported to Austria. The ambience was authentic, cozy and radiated that alpine charm that is otherwise only known from the mountains. I ordered the cheese spaetzle, and what can I say – they were simply incredibly tasty! The cheese was melted just right, nice and hearty and the portion was more than generous. If you're hungry, you'll definitely get full here! There was also a wonderfully fruity fruit schnapps that went perfectly with the hearty meal. At the end, of course, the Kaiserschmarrn couldn't be missed - and it was really to die for! Fluffy, sweet and with just the right amount of powdered sugar and garnish. An absolute must! I can highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for authentic Austrian cuisine and cosiness. A little piece of Austria in the middle of Berlin!

I can't tell you about the food but the behavior of the staff was so cold & unwelcoming that we decided to leave before we order. We entered the restaurant based off their good reviews, they asked if we had a reservation we said not (since we are tourists and unfamiliar witht their reservation culture)... they looked at us with such cold vibe until a guy from behind the bar told us to wait for a few moments... finally the waitress came & seated us inside with so much attitude.,.: there was no english on the menu and as American tourists we don't know any german... we spent a couple of minutes trying to figure out the menu that nobody came by to us to say hi.:: the waitress was so cold & stressed out about taking care of others who looked more like her and not like us I guess? I just did not wanna stay there any longer at the dark corner of their restaurant where so many more spots was Still open... we tried the thai food on thr side of the street and that dining experience was absolutely pleasant and amazing!! Go read my review for that place. Preeda on the other side of the street has the best thai food!!!!

We came here spontaneously and without a reservation. We were lucky and got two places. Better make a reservation, my recommendation! The food tasted excellent. The “Extended” coffee was pretty strong. However, that is a matter of taste. The service was quick and friendly. You can sit in the inn or outside.

If you are looking for a real Viennese, then you have come to the right place.

If you want to wait an hour for a schnitzel and are treated badly because you didn't make a reservation even though 8 tables inside were empty for 2 hours, and if you want to pay €30 per schnitzel, this is the place for you. Wearing tinted glasses doesn't make you a good waiter.

For me the best Wiener Schnitzel in the city. But all other dishes are also highly recommended. A very authentic Austrian restaurant. I love coming to the Gasthaus Alt Wien for good food.

Went here to eat on a recommendation because of the Wiener Schnitzel. The reservation was necessary and worked great online. The meal itself (Vienna schnitzel with warm potato salad and a bowl of cucumber salad) was reasonably priced at just under €28. There is also a lady version for €5 less. The schnitzel was great, the potato salad was unfortunately very onion-heavy with plenty of onions in the salad and then onions as a topping. The cucumber salad was very refreshing and was delivered in a separate bowl so that it didn't ruin the great breading of the schnitzel. Excellent! However, we found the service - or the one waiter who served us - really bad. A very intrusive person who repeatedly came very close to us. Really uncomfortably close, even if you knew each other too close. Unfortunately, that ruined the mood a bit because we were always very un-relaxed when that waiter came over. So overall it's ok, but we won't be coming back.

We ate here on the recommendation from a friend. The schnitzel was absolutely delicious (and huge). We also had a tasty salad. Unfortunately when we got the bill, we were disappointed in the supplementary charges. We asked for tap water and were strongly discouraged by the server due to the taste. We agreed to bottled water and were shocked to see it on the bill for €7 - nearly 2x what most restaurants charge. We also planned to split the schnitzel and were offered separate plates for €1, but it was actually €1,50 - a small difference but annoying. We also were charged €2 extra for cranberries which is reasonable, but again we didn’t know. Overall, I would recommend the food but the overall experience just felt like a money grab.

It was my second time in Alt Wien and it was perfect all round. The service was good and the food was perfect! The map is not particularly large, but it shows all the Austrian highlights! The Wiener Schnitzel is great 👍
