Café Restaurant Jolesch in Berlin

Not cheap, but delicious. Kaiserschmarrn is amazing!

We had this restaurant recommended to us by a friend and it did not disappoint! We went here for our son's birthday dinner as a treat. A beautiful interior run by a friendly and helpful staff who served us an amazing meal. The traditional schnitzel was perfectly prepared and the vegetarian special, a Rote Beet Knündel, was marvelous. Light, airy, and flavorful. Highly recommend for a special night out.

The food and service were simply fantastic. But the atmosphere was too crowded for me. There was barely any room to move around beside the tables.

First impression. A very friendly man (at a counter) greeted us right at the entrance and asked for our reservation. He asked one of the waitresses to escort us to our table. So far, so good. The counter seemed a bit excessive to me. It was "right in the middle" of the aisle between other tables (a matter of taste). We received our menus and hadn't even looked at them for three minutes when the waitress came over and asked if we already knew what we wanted to order for drinks. She kindly gave us more time. Although the service wasn't unfriendly, we didn't feel welcome (friendly, but not warm). We then ordered everything together, drinks and food. The drinks were served, and what felt like 10 minutes later, the food arrived. We were all very surprised and surprised, but not in a good way. In a restaurant like this, at such a fast-food pace? We ordered a variety of things: 2 Wiener Schnitzel, 1 Cordon Bleu of Apple Pork, and (for me) Alt Wiener Zwiebelrostbraten (Old Viennese roast beef with onions). The latter tasted very good overall (meat and sauce). The onions weren't particularly crispy. My companions didn't like the Wiener Schnitzel so much. The breading was too thick. They found it "okay" in terms of taste. They weren't impressed with the Cordon Bleu either. It was also too thick and tasted nothing special. We were surprised that you had to order the side dishes separately. Given the prices, we hadn't expected it. I also found the wine prices quite high (e.g., 0.1 L for €8 and 0.2 L for €13?). I thought the ambiance was very nice. It was loud, but you could still have a good conversation. Will I go to Jolesch again? Certainly not. There are other Austrian restaurants in the city that offer much better value. I'm willing to pay more at a restaurant (which I'm happy to do occasionally), but I also want to feel at the end of the evening that it was worth it. PS: Kaiserschmarrn for €16?

Unfortunately, I can't recommend it. I ordered a Cordon Bleu. It had less cheese. No ham. It was a small and cheap side dish. For €33, it's too little.

This is probably the best gluten-free Kaiserschmarrn in Berlin. It couldn't be any better. The gluten-free schnitzel is also excellent! Thank you for the gluten-free option. A true addition to Berlin's culinary scene. We'll be back again and again. Best regards

Perfect, very fine food, great attentive service

Solid quality, great service. Seriously though, the vegan schnitzel was about a quarter of the size of the meat options and not much cheaper. I know I know, why go there and have vegan schnitzel? I challenge that perspective, if you’re going to offer vegan imitations and charge similar prices, then at least make it worthwhile in terms of value proposition and portion size. I felt a bit fleeced.

Very delicious and has been for decades 😃

The food is truly wonderful. What I particularly like about the restaurant is that the acoustics are absolutely outstanding. You can have a great conversation, even with eight people at a table, because there's virtually no echo in the restaurant.

Small but nice with a super good wine selection

Quite good food, very friendly service, but sometimes just not good value for money. Austrian restaurants of comparable quality in the city, for example, serve Wiener Schnitzel for the same price, including the side dishes. Here, you'll pay an additional €6 for a small bowl of cucumber salad. If you also want potato salad or fried potatoes, you'll pay a whopping €40 for your schnitzel. That's not right.

Very tasty, especially the menu for 2 was great!

A beautiful restaurant with very well-kept and traditional decor. There's plenty of dark green, but also gold. The staff is warm and dedicated. The Austrian food is authentic and sumptuous, served quickly. Wiener Schnitzel is just as much a part of the menu as Kaiserschmarrn and delicious fruit brandies.

We had a good time. We made the last stop during our long holiday in Europe!!

Servus! We did not expect such a great Austrian food and wine experience (quality, ambiance, friendly and timely service) last night! Excellent food and a nice selection of wines were making the “Schnitzel” (there are more options on the menu) a blast. Will go again when coming back to Berlin!

The service was very friendly. The Kaiserschmarrn was delicious. But for €34 (!) for a schnitzel with a side dish, I would have preferred significantly more meat and less breading.

Very delicious cuisine with an eye for detail. The cooking here is truly professional and done with love. Of course, that comes at a price. I highly recommend the Kaiserschmarrn.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Wiener Schnitzel with cranberries and potato salad. The Kaiserschmarrn is also incredibly delicious. Making a reservation is highly recommended, as word has spread among tourists as well.

Great restaurant with lovely tafelspitz, schnitzel and some of the best Kaiserschmarrn and apfelstrudel I’ve tried. However, when paying the bill, the waiter guilt tripped me into tipping by saying “you forgot to add a tip” which is absolutely not done and ruined the experience for us. You’ve taken advantage of peoples awkwardness and politeness. The service was not the best and somewhat slow, if it was any better I would’ve absolutely tipped on my own accord.

I celebrated my birthday here with 15 people – and it was simply perfect! Even beforehand, communication with the team was uncomplicated and very friendly. The food was a real highlight!! Many thanks to the entire team for this unforgettable evening – we felt completely at home. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back!

Very good schnitzel and good gluten-free options

Jolesch is always a safe bet, but unfortunately, its prices have now reached a higher level. Service is fast, friendly, and on the ball. The food is good, but not sensational.

I haven't had better food in a long time! We tasted all the typical Austrian dishes in the group - Schnitzel vom Kalb, Schnittel Wiener Art, Spetzle and finally Kaiserschmarn. I eat these dishes quite often and I liked them the most in this restaurant! Great job! Excellent! In addition - very pleasant service, interesting surroundings, the possibility of sitting inside and on the street in front of the restaurant.

We luckily came across the "Jolesch" restaurant through a Bon Bon voucher and reserved a table there. We made our visit yesterday and were very surprised at how people can still treat restaurant patrons in these challenging times. From the very first moment, the head waiter and his staff attended to us very attentively and friendly and provided excellent advice on all matters (seating, drinks, food, etc.). If the dishes were too rich, two plates and cutlery were brought for a meal, which we could then share. The ordered dishes were prepared to the highest quality and very tasty. The selection of drinks was almost overwhelming, and the drinks we ordered were delicious. We haven't experienced anything like this in a long time. Therefore, a heartfelt thank you to the restaurant staff and especially to the head waiter on duty, Mr. Malche.

A very good restaurant with some very friendly service. I had the tasting menu, the tastiest being the vegan option and the Kaiserschmarrn. Unfortunately, two waiters weren't in a great mood. My criticism of more sugar-free drinks was dismissed with the simple remark, "We didn't like it." The food was of a high standard, but unfortunately, the goulash was a bit lacking.

We came for the schnitzels, and they were excellent! Both the Wiener Schnitzel vom Kalb and the Schnitzel "Wiener Art." But the Portobello Schnitzel was incredibly delicious. The desserts are unparalleled: the Wiener Apfelstrudel was warm and crispy, and the Kaiserschmarrn was fantastic! But above all, it was so large: four of us could eat it! Excellent service, quiet and beautiful restaurant inside. Served quickly. Not cheap, but excellent quality.

Great Austrian food; we tried their Schnitzel and Goulash which was absolutely delicious with a big portion. The chocolate soufflé was also very tasty, although the apple strudel was a bit over stuffed but still very tasty. The interesting part was where my husband and I entered with a flower bouquet and there was a vase ready on our table before we even notice (it was so surprising that at first I thought it was tap water haha), very considerate and thoughtful. The only negative point was that it looked like they were understaffed with only two personnel and they didn’t check on us for our next orders on time and we were so tired at the end. But one of them was very polite and friendly The rest of our experience was totally positive :) Indoors was very peaceful and quiet with a very romantic atmosphere and beautiful decorations, very authentic Totally recommended if you’re looking for a good Austrian dish in Berlin

Try the schnitzel with cheese spaetzle and an austrian pinot noir!

People go to Jolesch for the schnitzel. It's supposed to be the best in Berlin. It's been five years since I was there; I used to go there often and enjoy it, including for lunch, but that's no longer available. Instead, they now only offer schnitzel as a kit. Plain, without anything, for €28. What used to be on the plate now costs extra: €6.50 for fried potatoes, €6.50 for cucumber salad (cucumber and yogurt), €2 for cranberries, no capers, no anchovies. I like the place, but €43 for a schnitzel is too much for me; you can get it just as good (!!!) elsewhere. Too bad. Goodbye.

Don’t go here if you aren’t white 🙃 My German friend called beforehand to ask if they had a table for one, to which they responded that reservations were not necessary and I could come whenever. When I arrived I was ignored for 10 minutes - fine if it’s busy. A waiter eventually came over and only acknowledged the (white) couple behind me. The waiter then asked if I had reserved to which I replied no. She said there were no tables. I then referenced the phone call. She rolled her eyes and took me to a table. I was again made to wait while the waiters took orders from other tables who had arrived after me. I wondered if this was because I was a tourist, but upon observing the other (white) tourists it was quite clear that I was only being treated this way because I didn’t look like them. I was barely finished eating when another waiter grabbed my plate and asked if I wanted dessert. I said no as I still had wine in my glass. I wasn’t in the mood to stay after my treatment thus far. Upon paying he made a big deal of saying “enjoy OUR city”. Schnitzel was fine, nothing to write home about - but I’ve never been treated so appallingly at a restaurant because of my race. It’s 2025, do better.

Super-friendly service, excellent food, and a lovely, charming city location. I had the best Wiener Schnitzel ever and the most delicious Kaiserschmarrn. Excellent value for money!

Classic Austrian food done extremely well. The staff are helpful, friendly and very professional. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable. It's always a pleasure, my only wish is that I could visit more often.

Food, in this case not schnitzel but cheese spaetzle and Kaiserschmarren. The cheese spaetzle weren't good at all... drowned in cheese mush and baked, my goodness, and the Kaiserschmarren was dry, and the roasted pancakes were good. But the prices are just too high for vegetarian Austrian food.

Solid restaurant serving Austrian cuisine. A good atmosphere, professional service. In keeping with the general trend, prices have increased and portions have shrunk somewhat. It's a shame, really, because Jolesch is certainly better than its competitors, but so exceptional that you'd be willing to pay any price, or not.

We had a reservation for two people for our 5th anniversary on June 3, 2025, at 7:30 PM (it was noted in the reservation). On the terrace, there is a beautiful side on the left with new and comfortable tables and chairs (and evening sun), and a right side with less comfortable chairs and tables. Unfortunately, the staff could only offer us a table on the ugly and dark side, even though we had reserved two weeks in advance. We then canceled the reservation. What a shame!

Nice restaurant in Kreuzberg. I really liked the vegan tempeh option. The asparagus was good, but somehow this dish was missing some taste. Kaiserschmarn (ordered a half portion) was really good, as well as the drinks.

We ate outside and enjoyed that a lot. The service was also quite good. The food was well done, but not next level. The schnitzel was extremely well cooked as was the white asparagus, but the dish didn't quit sing. The spaetzle and the asian-influenced salad were again well done. The house gruner veltliner was a bit meh and didn't give me that gv taste. The highlight of the meal, however, was the absolutely mind-melting Kaiserschmarrn, which might be one of the best desserts I've ever had. Solid food, very good service, nice outside dinning.

One of the best meals we have had in Berlin and the best schnitzel we have ever had. I truly cannot recommend this restaurant more, not only was the food absolutely incredible the staff were equally amazing. We attended with a large group and we were not native speaking German, staff were so accommodating and lovely we really had the best time there and the food was absolutely delicious.

Very good restaurant with Austrian cuisine and selected wines. The service staff is courteous and attentive. However, you need to reserve a table well in advance as the restaurant is popular.

Visit on Good Friday, April 18, 25. The reservation was made digitally without any problems. The question was asked again via Quandoo the evening before. We had a quiet corner spot in the large room. The service was excellent professional. We were given enough time to order. The preparation time was good and not too long. We had roast beef, Wiener schnitzel and vegetarian portobello. Roast roast and the mushroom portobello were found to be very good. The quality of the meat in the Wiener Schnitzel was great, but unfortunately there was too much breading for us. The side dishes for the Wiener Schnitzel had to be paid extra. The potato salad was brilliantly good. In terms of costs, Kreuzberg is moderately more expensive than comparable restaurants. Also good restaurants. Cashless payment possible with manual tip entry. That was positive for us. The prices for drinks were ok

Mesas ocupadas fuera debido al clima cálido, pero elegí estar dentro donde el comedor estaba casi lleno. El clásico schnitzel Wiener y los espárragos blancos de temporada eran geniales. ¡No olvides que sus especialidades son austriacas, no alemanas!

The food was very tasty, I especially enjoyed the schnitzel. The space at the back of the restaurant was also great for our group. It was great to have a conversation. Unfortunately the wine wasn't my thing because I unfortunately overlooked the fact that it was a natural wine. Please point this out to customers when they order something like this. Thanks to a customer who couldn't read exactly after a long day at work 😁

Absolutely seamless reservations, the staff is totally relaxed, the service is super friendly, unobtrusive yet completely attentive, the ambiance is incredibly beautiful, and the food – absolutely amazing. By far the best schnitzel ever, and the Kaiserschmarrn and apricot dumplings were simply out of this world. We're still raving about them. Thank you so much for this unforgettable experience. The food was really a disaster! The schnitzel was floating in fat on the plate and was not eaten. The waitress was very friendly and took the schnitzel back without discussion. The second was completely over salted. And that for EUR 37.00. The beer was lukewarm.

I can only advise against online wine trading. 03/10/2025 Ordered wine worth €141. 03/18 asked when delivery could be expected. No answer. 03/22 asked again - answer that they would get in touch on March 24th. On March 24th no answer again. Then on March 25th the money was refunded - without comment, without apology... great shop! Thanks for nothing!

We are now regularly there, including with the children. Simply super friendly, the food is even better than when we ordered, and we were already in love. All in all just great! Unfortunately, until now we have only ever ordered from Jolesch, but since the lockdown we have been a loyal customer. The schnitzel is the best in Berlin so far, so delicious even after 20 minutes of delivery! And our favorite, the Kaiserschmarrn with plums. Can't wait to dine there, it must be incredibly tasty if it tastes so good at home

A very pleasant restaurant with nice service, the portions are huge, so we had half of them packed home.

We just went for a plate of Kaiserschmarrn and it was a delight! Soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The plum sauce was also great with it. The people here are also very warm. Would recommend making a reservation as the restaurant gets filled up quite soon.

For me, as an Italian, a great experience. Very nice place, good food (not very good), fast and friendly service.

We were guests here this evening. The first impression is of course elegant, unfortunately it falls apart when you take a closer look. It starts with the service, which was apparently extremely focused on getting us out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. So it took less than 3 minutes after receiving the card to ask what you wanted to eat. Our order was on the table within 5 minutes. It wasn't until later that I realized why things happened so quickly for us and not for others. The wine list is large - but there was no wine advice and so we got a €40 bottle that costs eight euros on the normal market. So good margin. Here, too, we felt extremely rushed because the wine was being poured almost every minute so that the bottle ran out quickly. After a while a very large group of guests came and were seated at a large table behind us and then we realized why we were being pushed so hard. So there weren't enough tables for the group and it was probably speculated that they could add our table. Overall, very disappointing - the volume increased with the group to train station level. The food was okay but not appropriate for the price, the service was as described, poorly informed and rather stressful. Conclusion: a lot of intentions and not a lot of skills - you can certainly eat better in Berlin.

Abbiamo scelto questo ristorante perché volevamo mangiare una snitzelt fatta bene e ho letto che era uno dei ristoranti consigliati. Bene, posso dire che oltre ad aver mangiato un ottima carne, la location è davvero carina. Anche la gente sembrava molto per bene, non è uno dei classici ristoranti per turisti. Inoltre la piacevole sorpresa è il proprietario italiano, con cui abbiamo potuto scambiare 2 parole. Unica nota dolente , non meno importante è che nel menu c'era scritto il prezzo di 28 € per il piatto ordinato , nello scontrino era 34€ oltre che , credo erroneamente, anziché scontrinare 2 piatti ne sono stati caricati 3! Abbiamo subito reclamato e ci hanno stornato la cifra dovuta. Quindi magari fate attenzione , ripeto spero e credo non sia stato fatto per speculare! Non credo ne abbiano bisogno. Consiglio al proprietario di istallare qualche pannello fonoassorbente alle pareti o al tetto , perché quando il locale è pieno c'è tanto brusio! Per il resto lo consiglio vivamente alle persone che cercano ristoranti in cui si mangia di qualità e non siano turistici!

Overated restaurant... waiters are overworked... this restaurant, which was charming, is a victim of its own success. Really disappointing schnitzel (28,50€)are not minute cooked and we must pay 8.50€ for a simple side.

Amazing place with kind of fusion German cusine. You can feel climat and eat amazing food and drink good wines from region( wine from Bugrenland is amazing!). Place have climat inside. During winter fireplace is open! I recommend!!!

Gute österreichische Küche, a bisserl zu schnell serviert; leider hohe Geräuschkulisse; insgesamt aber ein zufriedenstellender Abend; super dass es eine Rampe gab, mit der ich als Rollstuhlfahrer bequem in das Restaurant gelangen konnte.

Nice restaurant, had reserved a table. Unfortunately "our" table was without a tablecloth. Very nice welcome and very good service. The boiled beef bouillon was actually very good, just a little too salty, but still excellent. Wiener Schnitzel was world class, (Borcherts is a joke), Cordon Blue was great, great cheese and ham. Great Austrian potato salad, perfect cucumber salad. We'll be back with anticipation :-)

I am very happy to have been here. The ambience was excellent as was the staff. The food was good, a bit too much rocket in the salad for my taste and the meat could have been more tough. Cocktail was 4/5. I would definitely like to come back.

Lovely, cosy restaurant with great service and amazing food. I don’t understand the negative reviews regarding the Vegan Schnitzel, as I found it really delicious!

So I imagined the Austrian ambience and service to be different. Small Kietz restaurant, certainly with good food, but tables are too close together, resulting in a very loud atmosphere, cloakroom in the toilet, not recommended, service strained and after paying in cash, with a good tip, would have liked a thank you with a small smile, with the higher ones prices, I was happy. Hello...I know differently.

We ordered goose here. Not only was the food beautifully packaged, it was easy to transport and tasted excellent! The portions were very large and everything was included at a fair price. The waiters were super nice when we picked us up and bought us a coffee. Really great! Thank you!

Courteous service and good schnitzel, but a bit thin and a bit expensive at €28 (without side dish). A small bowl of fried potatoes costs €6. The main hall gets quite loud when the narrow seating is full. Many details that are otherwise less experienced are taken into account here.

We celebrated our 30th birthday at Jolesch with 25 people. The team was very nice and flexible with appointment changes and prepared the rented wine bar very nicely. The service was extremely nice and professional and the food was excellent. One of our absolute favorite restaurants in Berlin!
