The best Japanese food I ate in Germany!

Unfortunately the last time we were there it wasn't good at all. Very unfortunate. The spinach was drowned in the sesame sauce. The NasuDengaku was actually good, but also had too much sweetness. The miso soup was good. The agedashidofu was good, but the vegetables (spinach or pak choy) that came with it weren't right. The tempura also had weaknesses: the broccoli - generally not a good choice for tempura - had too much batter. Surimi tempura - why? Ebi was too exhausted. The Tentsuyu was very watery and hot with foam on top. A small amount of Oroshi was already in Tentsuyu. Finally we had nigiri. Visually very beautiful and with a large amount of fish. Unfortunately, the rice was a bit too sour and the taste was not balanced. Hamachi was still the best fish - despite the fishy aftertaste. Salmon was ok. The Akami was completely tasteless and very soft and seemed like it had been farmed. The Ootoro was the worst with a slightly rancid fatty note and stringy.

Eating in Mitani is like returning to Japan, it is not cheap but it is a very reasonable price, in few places you can find otoro at an affordable price. Food with authentic Japanese flavor. The adorable boss! Very good service. We will return for sure!

This should be the last time I come to Mitani in Munich to enjoy Japanese food. In my opinion the food is the best Japanese food in Munich. I have been here countless times and am a loyal customer. But this time the boss's attitude was a bit shocking Since the weather is likely to be hot, there will be a lot of flies flying around the store when the door is open. As we were eating the sushi, we suddenly noticed a dying fly falling down and we couldn't stop it. We asked the chef if we could swap the remaining four sushi rolls. The boss looked serious and very sternly made the following arguments: First of all, the flies are nature, it's not a big deal. Flies are always harmless. Secondly, there were no flies when he prepared the food, so he has no responsibility. When we finally insisted on asking him how to deal with it, he also swapped the remaining sushi, but he said: What if flies are eaten in the following dishes? It seems to relieve him of responsibility when flies later appear in the courts.

Nice staffs, sashimi mix not really impress, but tempura mix really good, highly recommend, unagi nigiri good.

Even if the boss is always in a somewhat grumpy mood, the food tastes excellent and (even though I can't compare it well) it feels really Japanese. A lot of Japanese people also eat there regularly. In general, the small shop is always completely full.

We all ordered the menu for one and were surprised at how generous the portions were. We started with a delicious miso soup. Then there was a starter in a small bowl with boiled/braised fish, meat and vegetables. Then we continued with two large karaage (fried chicken pieces). These were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Then came the tempura with various vegetables, shrimp and even surimi. I particularly enjoyed the tempura and had the same quality as what I was able to try in Japan. It was airy and crispy (but of course a bit oily, it is fried after all). Afterwards we were already quite full, but of course we still ate the sushi that came next. There was free nigiri and 6 maki per person. As a wonderful conclusion there was a delicious, homemade matcha ice cream with black sesame. We had a lovely evening and really enjoyed the food. The portions are really generous - so you should be hungry enough when ordering a menu.

Small, fine and authentic Japanese restaurant with always attentive service.

The area around the restaurant is a no-parking zone for non-residents, and if you go beyond that area, you won't be able to find a parking spot on the street. The sushi I had as a lunch box was delicious, so I went to see it, but there was no parking, so I just walked around the area and returned home.

We had heard good things but Mitani is decidedly mediocre. When we arrived (with a reservation) the man behind the sushi bar--presumably the namesake owner--grunted at us wordlessly, gestured vaguely towards a table, and went back to what he was doing. Service was extremely slow: 20 minutes just to get a drink, then another 20 to order food. We would have ordered another round or two of drinks, but the waitress never bothered to come by again. Food was fine, but nothing at all special, especially for the price. We had to ask for the check three times over the course of half an hour. There are plenty of great Japanese restaurants in Munich--skip this one.

This is a very good Japanese restaurant, all the waiters are well trained, and the sushi tastes authentic, just like what I ate in Tokyo. I will definitely come back.

It was a nice experience. We went with some colleagues and had the back room for ourselves. The food was very nice and the portions were huge, I ordered a menu 1 and I wasn't able to finish it all. The service was somewhat slow but the restaurant was quite packed so, is understandable.

It was subtle. I had eaten at many Japanese restaurants in Munich, and I came to Mitani's as it was my last restaurant. Once, I was turned away along with the person I was lining up with, so I thought I would never come again, so it ended up being the last time. Matsuhisa's sushi is the best. What about tempura? Not much different from other stores. The fried chicken is delicious, Strong seasoning. The miso soup doesn't have a good dashi stock. It's not a store like the reviews say. Also, the shopkeeper? I don't know if How about cooking while drinking beer? It is better not to expect soup stock in Germany, This store was the same. Also, I drank an espresso at the end. It was a thin espresso that was closer to my ILLY coffee. I guess it can't be helped because it's a Japanese restaurant. I will never go again. I am writing this review out of anger, so there is no mistake in the content. His arrogant attitude remains the same. By the way, this review is from 2020. *My account was hijacked six months ago.

Not so big venue, but, oh my gosh, the quality of the food is amazing! It's what you would expect from japanese tradition, here it comes with unique twists. You can be fulfilled with a selection of the excellent starter courses, or you can dive into heavenly smooth, silky, tasty Sushi, which melt on your tongue. Service is also very nice, friendly and looking after you as a valued guest. Reservations heavily recommended, it can get quite busy in the evening. Get your loved ones and enjoy the treat! 🫶

Wer mal original Japanisch essen will und keine AsiaKette besuchen möchte, ist hier richtig aufgehoben. Ich war nun mehr als 7mal zu Besuch und jedes Mal war leckerer als zuvor. Kein Wunder, dass dieser kleine schnuckelige Laden auch von vielen Einheimischen besucht wird, da alles handgemacht originell zubereitet wird! Ein MUSS für jeden, der Japanische Küche gern mag!!

Das wohl authentischste japanische Restaurant, das ich in München bisher gefunden habe. Es waren viele Japaner da, was immer ein gutes Zeichen ist, und auch das Ambiente beförderte mich direkt in ein süßes kleines Restaurant in Tokyo. Das Karaage war himmlisch, ebenso das Agedashi Tofu; beim Weißkohlsalat mit Sesam haben sie es aber etwas arg gut gemeint (der war riesig! :D), das Matchaeis war auch lecker. Das Personal war freundlich und höflich, aber vielleicht ein wenig überlastet. Eine Reservierung ist notwendig. Ich komme gern wieder!

Karaage and Fried Eggplant was bombastic. 2. Service: Service was very professional and nice. 3. Atmosphere: Very classic and authentic Japanese interior. The room is really intimate and quiet so you were able to talk, but still a vibe. There were no tables outside, which gave it a unique vibe. -> all in all very nice restaurant and very affordable for the quality of the food. We will be back.

Ich war zwar noch nicht in Japan, aber so stelle ich es mir vor! Perfektion, Gastfreundlichkeit und tolle Kultur. Essen ist Kultur und das war im Mitani wie ein kleiner Urlaub in Japan. Einfach toll.👍👌

Das Essen ist nicht schlecht aber auch nicht besonders gut. Die meisten Vorspeisen sind frittiert daher fühlt man sich danach schon satt und irgendwie ungesund. Die Auswahl der Speisen ist sehr überschaubar. Gastfreundlichkeit wird leider auch nicht groß geschrieben (v.a. der Chef ) daher ein weiterer Punkt Abzug. Ich habe mir definitiv mehr von dem Restaurant erhofft.

Amazing experience, it can be really full so it’s a good idea to make a reservation earlier in order to find a place, the food was excellent, traditional and authentic! The girl who attend us was really nice and tried to create the best experience for us. But it might be need more help in that restaurant for that poor girl, she was the only waitress.

Seafood used for sashimi was not fresh; sushi looked messy (no idea why there were heaps of parsil next to it), and tasted mostly of mayonnaise, and tempura was fried in old oil. Friendly waitress but food made us shudder!

Wir waren schon zweimal da, das zweitemal mit einer japanischen Freundin, die das Essen ebenso gut fand wie wir selbst - und die Preise sind für das teure München und japansiches Essen moderat!

Die Qualität des Fisches (speziell Thunfisch) war nicht überragend. Das Sashimi war so dick geschnitten, dass man es kaum essen konnte. Wir gehen sehr gerne Sushi essen und geben hierfür auch gerne mehr Geld aus, wenn die Qualität stimmt. Das Mitani hat uns hierfür jedoch das letzte Mal gesehen. Die warmen Speisen sahen gut aus, ebenso war das Ambiente nett. Jedoch stimmt das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis überhaupt nicht, dazu kommt dann leider noch mangelhafter Service. Es war leider eine herbe Enttäuschung!

Man fühlt sich dort ziemlich wie vor Ort in Japan. Der hohe Anteil an japanischen Gästen spricht dafür, dass diese das wohl so ähnlich sehen ;-)

Ich kenne kein anderes Lokal, in dem ich mich so gut entspannen, lachen und zugleich hervorragend essen kann. In der Regel bestelle ich das Menü Nr. 1, nachdem es mehrere untschiedlicher Speisen bei einem ausgezeichneten Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis umfasst und zudem im Lauf der Zeit immer wieder etwas variiert wird. Als kleiner Malus soll nicht unerwähnt bleiben, dass bedauerlicherweise der preiswerte frei- und samstägliche Mittagstisch abgeschafft wurde. Mir selbst hat dies den Zugang zur japanischen Küche jenseits von Sushi ermöglicht, weshalb ich es traurig finde, dass es diese Möglichkeit nun nicht mehr gibt.

現地在住の日本人同僚に、連れて行ってもらいました。(計3名) 予約を取っておかないと、なかなか行けないくらい、にぎわって いるお店だそうです。 平日の夜8時でしたが、満席でした。 ほぼ2週間海外出張にでていたものとしては、ここでしっかりした日本食食べれるのは、非常にうれしかった。 おいしい、ほんとの日本食、お寿司をたべることができます。 ビール、お寿司盛り合わせ、みそ汁を一人ずつたのんで、から揚げなどをシェアして、一人40EUR程度。

日本人料理長がやっているのもあり、日本食の味は確かなものと思いました。刺身、寿司ネタ的にはドイツ内陸部なので白身があまり 無いのは仕方ないのかも。価格もまぁドイツでなら良心的なのかも

Simply go there and it. It's a reasonable place with fantastic food and a delicious Mido Soup. The Interieur is nicer than the exterior - don't let yourself fool you.

Shabu shabu ist ein japanisches Brühfondue. Geschmeckt hat es. Aber ich hätte mir irgendwie noch etwas Anleitung gewünscht. Zum Beispiel wussten wir nicht ob man die Brühe am Schluss trinkt?! Es gab hierzu nämlich keine Schale. Der Topf stand in der Mitte des Tischs und man legte das Gemüse selbst nach. Die Dippsoße wurde zusammen mit Meerrettich verrührt. Das Fleisch war ausreichend. Ich hätte mir mehr Pilze gewünscht ( es gab nur einen Shitake). Der Service war nicht immer aufmerksam und sprach nur englisch. Das Sushi am Nebentisch hat mich im Nachhinein mehr gereizt. Ich komme wieder, aber dann für Sushi.

Familie Mitani stellt wahrscheinlich das beste japanische Restaurant. Man sollte sich nicht auf das Sushi fokussieren. Die anderen traditionellen Gerichte sind mindestens genauso gut, einfach sensationell

I have eaten here before and liked the food. However, it is impossible to come without a reservation and making a reservation is extremely difficult. This is not because the restaurant is exceptional but more because no one ever seems to answer the phone and service at the restaurant is ridiculously slow. Such a pity for s place with good food; however, the meal is not worth the inconvenience.

I was here for a business dinner, luckily had booked a table well in advance otherwise it would have been very difficult to find a place in the small room. The food is good, a quality sashimi at a bit high price, but anyway in the menu there are cheaper alternatives. What I have found definitely poor, is the choice of desserts limited to ice-cream only. At the table we waited at least 10 minutes before someone from the staff approached. The atmosphere, as well as the certainly improvable reception are not typically Japanese, furthermore the service personnel speaks little and badly both English and German.

50 mins - no exaggeration - is a long time to wait between sitting down and getting a drink. The staff where overwhelmed by the number of customers and service was extremely slow. Some of the dishes we ordered were simply forgotten. It was that slow that by that stage we were happy to leave without having to eat them.

Mitani certainly has good Japanese food but what they ought to improve is their customer service. From decreasing their lunch service to just dinner service would probably allow them to have a more friendly service but this is not the case. Ordering anything takes forever and if you end up ordering something wrong by mistake and want something else instead, the owner speaks to you in a rude way insisting that it's your fault so they won't make any amends. This will be my last time coming to this place for a meal after 10 years of tolerating bad service. I think other Japanese restaurants are worth a lot more than having to put up with rude and unfriendly service. I do not mind paying for my mistake for the food, but what I do mind is to be told off. It's was supposed to be a nice Mother's Day meal which you (old man behind the sushi bar) completely spoilt it for me and my son.

1st - make reservation (place is small and there is almost no chance to get a table without reservation) 2nd - try soup (personally I don't like soups but I was "forced" to try it and it was worth it) 3rd - we ate a lot.. around two hours. all portions are small (consider this when ordering). so if you are really hungry there is no problem to spent 50eur per person and still wont be full 4th - try Japanese beer :) 5th - service is slow but when food comes its not important

If you fancy real Japanese food, that's the place to go, just look at the customers eating there...more than 50% is probably japanese which is a good sign if you want authentic food. Now make sure to reserve as it fills up very quickly...and be curious on Japanese food before getting there as you can easily get lost among all the meals proposed

This is one of the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Munich, but the service is lousy. The chef in the counter was yelling at the waitress while the waitresses looked frightened. You don't expect this in an expensive restaurant.

Their lunch menu is a killer in terms of price and taste! For only 8€ you will get a set of miso soup, salad and a bowl rice with chicken/ meat or noodle soup. You can hardly get this anywhere in Germany, especially in Munich, for an original Japanese meal. I chose Torikara set menu, which is the fried chicken set menu. It's well portioned; not the discounted portion just because of the cheap price. The lunch menu is not available everyday, though. Be sure to check when they are open for lunch. And when they open, expect to see a long queue. So, be there early ca. 15 mins before they start, or you may end up getting no table.

Mitani is a small place (better make reservations) close to Rosenheimer Platz. The selection of dishes is excellent and goes beyond the usual Sushi and Sashimi. And in multiple visits I never got disappointed by the taste and freshness of anything I ordered. Service is friendly and fairly efficient. Mitani has become my go-to Japanese place in Munich and I can recommend it highely

We went for lunch to Mitani and followed the advice of a friend to be there 20 min before the opening. When we arrived, people already have been queuing. So when you are a bigger party you should be quite early, as they don't take reservations for lunch. The lunch choice is quite limited - around 4 menu dishes and 2 daily offers - but it was very tasty, freshly prepared and the price was more than reasonable. We want to come again, but next time we want to try the dinner.
