Marktkauf Restaurant in Münster

All the shelves are full, but when asked if they could open more than three checkouts on a Friday afternoon, the response is a rude, "If you tell us where we can get the staff..." It must be awful working here.

We went shopping at Marktkauf on May 7, 2025 around 2:55 p.m. The store was busy, but only one checkout was open. When I asked politely whether it was still possible to open a cash register, I received a very rude and stroppy answer from an employee (dark hair, braids, glasses, old). Something like that doesn't work at all. With so many customers, it should go without saying that you should plan on having enough staff - and above all, have employees at the checkout who treat customers in a friendly and respectful manner. Very disappointing!

Very spacious. Good range, just like EDEKA. There are often waiting times at the checkouts.

Update 04/26/25 Today we were shopping at the market again for a long time and unfortunately we found that it had gotten even worse. The empties reception area was completely filthy, there were dried drink residues on the floor, everything was sticky and there were broken pieces of glass in every corner. When we mentioned it at the information desk, we met an employee who clearly hadn't been told about it for the first time and had already completely resigned. We were so disgusted that we went somewhere else to shop. -------------------- A huge market purchase where you can get everything, but when it comes to things that perish quickly, you have to pay attention to the expiry date for each item. We have often found things that are already expired or only have a very short shelf life. And when you ask the employees at the information desk about it, they react rudely. Update 09/25/23 Today we were once again annoyed about the cleanliness of the empties area, which is regularly very dirty, the floor is so sticky that you can hardly walk, just disgusting. Such an experience completely ruins your upcoming purchase. When we mentioned this to the information desk or the deputy store manager, the only excuse that came up was that we were the store in Münster that would take back the most empties, that may well be the case, but anyone who takes back a lot of empties will probably also sell a lot and earn a lot of money with it and then it's probably not too much to ask that the area in front of the machines is kept clean on a regular basis. Or do they not keep the areas behind the meat counter clean because there is a lot going on there? For us it is clear that we are looking for other shopping options because we feel increasingly uncomfortable and not taken seriously in the market, so you can also get rid of your loyal regular customers.

If you want to show contempt to customers... then exactly like that. It's Friday afternoon, 2:00 p.m. and there is exactly one cash register open. Instead of the service you would expect for the Marktkauf surcharge, there are only two options: Generalversachtskassen (SB), or Generalversacht shopping carts. This means that each item must be weighed and you can only pack your purchase once each item has been weighed and then paid for. Of course, for a bottle of wine, another overwhelmed person has to come running in who is supposed to manage a total of 6-8 self-service cash registers. The loss of time is immense and shopping is extremely cumbersome. If you don't trust your customers at self-service, then you have to open cash registers. If you want to see how self-service shopping is done properly, then I recommend shopping at the market in Gievenbeck. I visited this branch on Loddenheide for the last time today. I just feel like I'm being ripped off.

Today was great. Super friendly advice in the electrical department.

On the Tuesday after Easter ONE of 15 cash registers opened, huge queue with fully packed trolleys. NO additional checkout will be opened upon request. Still ok at the discounter, but a disgrace in the most expensive supermarket in Münster. By the way: The hygienic condition of the shopping carts is disgusting. My groceries are in there!

Personally, the store tends to be too big and confusing for me. But it's well stocked, the staff is friendly and there are plenty of cash registers.

Good for shopping, lots of parking

Almost perfect for me. You can get almost anything here at any time and we don't buy weekly groceries here, just something special. And you can rely on the store. One star is deducted for the lack of signage from the parking lot: where do you drive in and where do you get out? There is no sign or arrow in the store itself. I now know my way around there, but at the beginning I went to the car wash instead of the exit; I had to constantly ask inside where I could find things and where the cash registers were. And as a digital native, I didn't check the smart shopping cart or the self-service checkout 😃 if you know how to do it, everything is good - very good in fact. But honestly - a little more support is fine.

I've had enough now, I'm avoiding the store. Worst box office staff in all of Münster. Really a shame but obviously wrong management. It works better everywhere. Bye

I just bought a box of spring rolls for ~€5.50 at this noodles shop in Marktkauf. In the picture you could see five pieces, but there were three inside. I'm really not squeamish about something like that, but when I opened the box I was amazed. Once and never again. P.S. They don't taste particularly good either

High-quality sales culture, well-organized, customer-friendly, huge variety, motivated and helpful employees, plenty of covered parking spaces, easy to reach, additional service providers in the entrance area complement the best shopping opportunity for everyday things in life. Every purchase will motivate you to come back.

Great selection and friendly and competent staff

Charging stations for electric cars available. Fresh counter for cheese, meat and fish. Groceries and household supplies. Self-service baked goods. Always good prices and always low prices. Bring a little more time at the checkouts on the weekend. Not so easy to reach by public transport.

Slipped from 5 to a maximum of 2 stars. At prime time, a maximum of 3 cash registers were open and then half of the self-service cash registers were closed. But what's even worse is that you constantly find expired goods on the shelves, you have to check the best before date for each item. Too bad.

On a Thursday evening, a single checkout + 2SB checkouts opened. Complete catastrophe.

Good day, I was just shopping with you. Once again queues up to the second row of aisles. Customers were already shouting at each other at the self-service checkouts, a single cashier at 8 self-service checkouts, the red lights were constantly flashing. The icing on the cake: I grabbed a Milka chocolate milk from the promotion stand, drank it when I survived the purchase, had a sour aftertaste - look at the date - it's been up for a solid THREE WEEKS!!!! Now I'm going to have diarrhea to thank you!!! We leave around 1000 euros with you every month, it's getting worse and worse! We regularly have expired food in our hands and are completely stressed at the self-service checkout. We will soon only be ordering from Picnic because a purchase from you will eventually end in a stroke at the checkout! Please dispose of the expired Milka milk before more customers consume spoiled milk in good faith. Great market purchase with great offers and great service.

On a normal Friday afternoon, there were lines all the way through the store at the checkouts. Without exaggeration, there were at least 20 customers at each checkout and 3 of at least 10 checkouts were open. And it wasn't close to Christmas or anything. Really bad.

This store won't get my money anymore. Queues throughout the store, and not for the first time! Then finally set up more or just self-scanning cash registers. It is no longer reasonable that you expect customers, most of whom are seniors, to do something like this. Open at least 1 extra checkout of the few that are open for old people, or does someone have to fall over first?????!!!!!

There are specialist staff here who deserve their name

There are finally more fresh sausage items available at the fresh food counter with storage form 3, which is why the number of stars has now increased to 3. I think you know when I'll give you even more stars ;-) (can you at least make a small selection in 5?) I would also like to thank the always friendly staff again! We would love to come to you! I've been surprised the last few times that there are no Bauernliebe products at the fresh counter. Especially in this day and age, you should think about switching the entire fresh counter offering to farmers or organic food. Some products will be thrown out, but in the end the customer will buy what is presented! In the spirit of sustainability, the choice of products for our children and the healthy life of agriculture, I hope that I/WE are heard.. p.s. The prices are only slightly more expensive, so the majority of customers wouldn't even notice! Dare!

Gigantic. Actually, EVERYTHING you can imagine.

Rarely have I been in such a poorly organized store. The baking counter feels like it only has 2 tongs, although it feels like there are 10 holders for tongs. Blue airwaves always feel empty. G&G Cola Zero also always empty and Kneipp products e.g. also. You know that if something is empty you should reorder it? For some products it really feels like it takes weeks for supplies to arrive. Apart from that, with these bottomless prices you can get out of the store with half a bankruptcy case. Absolutely ridiculous.

Hey, so far every stupid paper bag I've bought there has torn on the way out.

Parking can be very annoying during normal shopping times. Especially when people start to park "wildly", for example in driveways... parking bays are relatively narrow There are now some bicycle parking spaces There has been less re-sorting of goods. "Full-range store" which sometimes leads to narrower aisles for deliveries of seasonal products. The checkout area is difficult to see as soon as it gets a little fuller, queues are not always visible... Employees from great to not working at all

It was hell today...I've been a customer for years, but today (Saturday November 30th) I have to question your business policy...5 cash registers + self-service cash register and the one at the drinks market...what's wrong with you? I was so naive and went to the self-service checkout. 30 minutes until I was allowed to pay and 4 error messages that required staffing is absolutely damaging to business. As a CUSTOMER, A RECOMMENDATION….sells the Sch….self-service cash registers and tries to get MA from the proceeds for Saturday. You have the license to print money...

Crowded aisles and on a Saturday from 15 to 3 cash registers open. After standing in line at the checkout for a really long time, you were told that you were at the wrong checkout, either because there were too many products or because the products had to be weighed. Top shop, not.

Basically: large, clean, modern market with a relatively good selection. Food area comparatively small. Self-check-out has now finally arrived in this country, but this market purchase, in contrast to the one in Gievenbeck, has opted for the worst possible system. Either scan every item at the self-service, hope that the scales cooperate, need some kind of activation three times and are reprimanded by the staff, or you grab the "smart" shopping cart, scan it while shopping and wait what feels like ages for each product to be installed Scale registered. However, you cannot pay at the self-service checkout, as is usual elsewhere, but you have to go to a separate checkout that is operated by the person who also has to check all 8 self-service checkouts. This can then build up and the time advantage is practically zero. (Although there are often so few conventional checkouts open that the queues extend behind the drugstore, where the already narrow aisles are then completely blocked) What's really annoying, however, is that some beverages with a deposit (in this case Spanish beer) are still available after months Assortment cannot be recognized by the machine. You would think that you could then simply ring the bell outside the market and return the box manually: far from it! You can then go to the market for information, where, depending on the employee's mood, you can leave the box somewhere and get paid out coins. Edit: This has now been changed to ring the bell again in order to then receive other empties in exchange, which you have to push into the machine. Why just....? All in all, unfortunately not a recommendation.

Some employees, especially those at the checkout, should receive a course in politeness. If you ask something politely, you expect a polite answer. If you don't want to work with other people, you should look for another job. Products and prices are generally okay, you can find almost everything.

First, the goods weren't labeled, then all the price information devices were broken, the staff was unfriendly when asked, you had to go to the checkout with the items to ask and then bring back the items you didn't choose. Not good advertising for market purchases.

I bought alcohol here with a colleague for €300, drank around €100 of it over the weekend and the cashier was super friendly. 10/10 I like huge stores like this and I miss Real every day

It takes a long time to find your products; goods from different brands are often in different locations. The customer is unsettled because he cannot estimate the full potential of this market. The offer isn't bad, but you don't feel like spending hours in this market; shopping simply takes too long.

Customers who are prepared to travel long distances in the store will find a particularly deep and wide range of products here. What is particularly noteworthy is the very well-organized organic department and the large selection of vegan products of all kinds. The embedded shops such as a bakery, pharmacy, bistro and an ATM complete the offer. There is a packing station outside and the option to charge e-bike batteries. Technically equipped with so-called “smart shoppers” and state-of-the-art cash registers for self-scanning, I still don’t understand what’s “smart” about the fact that I have to select each leek stick individually from a menu and insert it if I don’t I first want to find a team member who can fix the error for me. In addition, there is only one checkout for all Smartshoppers, where the queue is correspondingly long. The only other thing to criticize is the very sparse bicycle parking spaces.

Nobody wants to make money here given the number of cash registers open. The self-checkout area is also a disaster. If possible, I'll go somewhere else.

One of the best, if not the best, shopping market in Münster that I know.

You actually get everything you need there.

Free parking. Everything you need.

Large selection, it is practical that the deposit machine takes almost all deposit bottles, saving you additional trips. The fresh meat counter is well stocked and the sellers provide good advice. If you want to do all your shopping at once, you can do so very well here, but you have to expect a higher budget than at a discounter. Most of the employees are friendly. The checkout area can cause misunderstandings if you queue at a checkout that appears to be open but is then closed. I stood in line for about 5 minutes when the cashier said, "You there! - I'm not cashing you out anymore." It should be clear for the benefit of employees and customers that they should not queue at closed checkouts (e.g. green light = open, red light = closed). If the checkout employee reacts in such an unfriendly way because he has had a stressful day, the customer will no longer enjoy shopping there.

Here you can forget about going shopping on Friday and Saturday. The store is well positioned, but unfortunately only 2 checkouts are open and the wait time is over half an hour. Anyone who makes the service plan or recruits should be terminated

Best market in all of North Rhine-Westphalia

Very good fresh counter (sausage/meat). Assortment very large, sometimes too large. Overall very large market. Could be modernized. But I'm satisfied.

The self-checkout clerk was very unfriendly

Very varied and large. The main problem is that you have to wait a long time at the checkout, to buy frozen products you better not do it.

Huge, but extremely narrow aisles in the food area. The arrangement of the goods is completely different than in other supermarkets and therefore the market is extremely confusing. Because drinks (apart from wine and champagne - for whatever reason) are separated from each other by the complete, oversized range of non-food items, there is definitely no market for people with walking difficulties or those with children... The staff reacted when asked where an item was desired is very irritated and unfriendly - which in turn irritated me due to the idiosyncratic sorting in the market. The parking lot is also quite confusing.

I was there today at the information desk because of my shopping basket (handle broke) that I bought there in March. I didn't have a receipt with me and couldn't find it at home. I thought they'd recognize it and help me!!! Butrrrr the interest in the information was so humiliated that I felt stupid! One calls the other and in the end an employee came who wanted to make it clear to me that nothing is possible without a receipt because the manufacturer also needs a document as proof! I told the employee that I could also buy a new one and show her the bong as proof.... she laughed and said yes, they could have done that?! It's not right to be honest then? Or was this whole show because I was wearing a headscarf? In the end, the lady told me that she had only been working there for 6 weeks and therefore didn't have much to say :))) . I'm so disappointed why, why, why? My shopping basket cost €18 is not the world but despite everything, not being taken seriously is hard!! I was there every week and from today on I didn't buy anything there anymore!

Totally confusing and endless queues at the checkout

I have been shopping here regularly for years and am very satisfied with what is on offer. Mr. Pri**s from the technology department got my old smartphone (also from here) back into shape for me."Thank you very much." There is a star deduction for not enough seating. Many customers are not good walkers and don't want to "have to" buy something to eat when they just need a moment to take a breather. The cash registers are also chronically understaffed, which regularly leads to problems with Tk-ware. Innovation is appropriate here, ladies and gentlemen. Sales are also generated through customer friendliness and convenience. P.S. I'm looking forward to the new catalogue. Today is not every day. See you next week - no question. Update 2.8.24 I forgot my shoulder bag while repacking yesterday. All papers, money, cards, cell phone and keys gone. Scared on the bus. The police quickly helped. You can get pretty much everything here, pleasant shopping atmosphere, clean, only a few checkouts open. The waiting time is therefore far too long. It's not nice when the prices in the cash registers are not updated.

Very large, clean and well-arranged supermarket. Very large selection of non-food items and groceries. It feels like the market in Münster with the largest selection of vegan substitute products. There are also some branded products at permanently low prices that differ greatly from the competition. I think it's really good! Keep it up!

CAUTION! the pfand machines will scam you Good as it has a lot of options and variety, though can be expensive and the store layout is a bit awkward Edit: reduced to 1 star because the pfand machines are broken and are saying plastic bottles that I PAID 25c for are only worth 8c. I was shorted over 2€ because of this scam. There is no way to recall the bottles since they are stored immediately and I couldn't even call someone for help. They robbed me all because their machines are broken! What an absolute joke!

With a discussion from the boss we have to get people to go to the checkout themselves, so on Saturday there is only a normal checkout and then there is a trainee standing there alone. We had to wait for over half an hour, which is impossible
