I come here regularly in the fall/winter and always have a really good time. The food tastes amazing and warms you up nicely. Everything is incredibly fresh. You choose the things you want from the fridge. There are many vegan options, including various vegetables, mushrooms, noodles, and many different types of tofu. Then they weigh it, and you pay by weight. Two broths (mushroom and tomato) are vegan. You can add your own toppings, such as chili, chili oil, coriander, and other things that not everyone wants in their standard meal. The service is friendly and helpful. The seating is quite comfortable, but it's really cramped, so you always want to leave quickly after eating. Sometimes it's super crowded, so you have to wait a bit. This tends to happen during peak times. It's usually busy at lunchtime, even on weekends.

A pleasant surprise. I was very skeptical, but since a friend raved about it and the place was really busy, I thought, let's try it... you don't want to die stupid. I'm not really a soup fan ("You can just have tea there...") but: wow! Good sign: lots of Asians were there! The special thing is that you pick the ingredients yourself from a refrigerated shelf, put everything in a bowl, and the bowl is weighed. Tip for thrifty shoppers: Get dry noodles. Lighter. Then choose the broth and spice level, and you're done. Five minutes later, the buzzer rings. The selection of ingredients is enormous. Lots of vegetables, meat, scampi, and even fried eggs. The ambiance... typical Asian fast-food restaurant. I'll definitely go back!

Great concept, fresh ingredients, delicious. Unfortunately, some options contain peanuts (unsuitable for allergy sufferers), but other options are available and well labeled. The labels on the self-service aisle are a bit confusing.

Very original and tastes just like it does in China, only the meat is not as fresh as it used to be

The small, vegan-friendly restaurant seats about twenty customers so go early to avoid crowds (reservation not possible). It allows you to select materials like fresh vegetables, tofu, noodles, frozen meat slices and the cooking takes no more than 20min. Their mini self-service bar offers peanut butter, spring onion, garlic, sesame seed, fresh coriander etc. Another plus point is their good service. They would patiently explain how it works.

Love this place, very solid soup that you can create on your own

Unfortunately, the waiters didn't take us seriously. We had to wait 40 minutes to order, and then we got food we hadn't ordered. Unfortunately, it was very annoying. The soups were delicious, though.

Mala Town is simply awesome! The best thing here is that you can put together your own soup. From the broth to the noodles to the toppings, everything can be chosen individually. It's really fun to try out the ingredients and in the end you have a soup that really suits your taste. Super fresh, spicy and simply cool. An absolute insider tip for everyone who loves Asian cuisine and wants to try something new.

decent food, broth could be richer, nice service

It was quite full when i was there, but thats not a problem. The food was okay. But that may just not suit my taste. The server, in black with glasses seemed visibly annoyed. However we stayed calm and friendly. I had more the feeling that he only did it because he needed to. The way the talked to costumers is quite rude. It could be that he had a bad day or smt but this is sadly the last time we're visiting.

It's different from other Malatang. The soup here is not spicy, only the oil floating on it is spicy. The soup is relatively thin, not thick. The overall selection of dishes is a bit limited, and most of them are vegetarian. The shrimp is frozen, and it is the kind of frozen shrimp with a high water content, so it accounts for a lot of weight.

Great concept and great taste. The only drawback is the waiting times around lunchtime - on average you wait around 40 minutes for your meal to be ready after you hand in your ingredients. If you eat on site, you also have to wait for a seat before you can get started. Processes urgently need to be optimized here, especially given the location in the business district with a lot of lunchtime business. The potential for 5 stars is there, the demand is apparently right :) Update May 2, 2025: You have now gotten the processes under control very well, waiting times are now absolutely acceptable! My favorite place to go for the lunch break.

The concept is quite good but it is really hard to estimate how much a bowl should be filled with. The overall price was very expensive 20-25e for our bowls and the taste was not up to the price in our opinions.

A great ramen snack experience. You grab a plastic bowl and choose your soup ingredients from the large refrigerated display case, which are then priced by weight, then you choose a basic broth and take toppings and sauces (to pimp the broth even further). Then, when the beeper beeps, you get a great, huge ramen soup at a great price, unbeatable...

The tomato soup base I asked for was not spicy and was quite good. There is just no milk tea, which is a pity.

You should definitely plan some time there. We were there on a Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. and had to wait in line for about 20 minutes until we got a table and our food. But that was completely okay. Only if you are pressed for time might a visit be a bit risky. You can choose the ingredients yourself. The selection is a little smaller than in other branches. But you still have enough choices even as a vegetarian. Unfortunately there are only two vegan broths, which is a shame, but I found the tomato broth really tasty, so I still give it five stars because the things they have are still really strong. The tomato broth tastes fresh and of good quality and you can conjure up your own version of the soup using the spices and toppings, depending on whether you are more in the mood for something spicy. Will definitely come back again.

I chose the classic spicy soup base, and it was really not ok...except for the thick layer of spicy oil that brought a spicy sensation, the soup base was not fragrant at all, and the taste was neither salty nor bland? The ingredients feel like they are just cooked, and there is no way to taste the level of Malatang. I randomly ordered a kind of milk tea. The tea seemed to have been left for a long time. Although I didn't expect the milk tea to have a milky aroma, the tea flavor made it harder to swallow. If you want to eat delicious Malatang in Germany, I recommend going to Kasrur!

Hello, thank you for giving me a decent meal here. This is actually the first time I’ve ever written a review about something. Today, I was served by a young man wearing glasses and dressed in black. I don’t speak German or Chinese, so we communicated in English. I remember clearly saying that I could only handle a little bit of spice, so I ordered the “Pilzen” option from the menu, since I didn’t see any chili icon next to it. Unfortunately, I received a bowl of noodles that was quite spicy. When I went to pick it up, I was a bit shocked, but I still smiled and enjoyed the whole bowl along with a bubble tea that came without any toppings (which was probably my fault for not making it clear that it doesn’t include peals). I’ve been in his shoes for many years — working in a country that’s not my home. Now, I’m in a position where I pay people like him their wages. I understand how hard and challenging each role can be. But I think I’d be very sad if someone at one of my shops treated an Asian guest the way he did. Even though opening a restaurant is, of course, for making money, I believe the owner always hopes that customers will receive the best service and a warm, welcoming attitude. I truly hope that when Asian guests come to this place — even if they struggle with ordering — they will still leave with a big, happy smile. Wishing you all the best in your business.

One of the best chinese cuisine i tried in Germany!

Super delicious food! It's not that nice to sit inside, but when the weather's nice, you can sit outside. It's very vegan and veggie-friendly. Be aware that you tend to overindulge, so it's best to come back later!

We ate here at weekend lunchtime. No need for table reservation. It’s easy to find a seat. The food choice is standard of a mala town shop and the soup there is nice, too. Price-wise it’s quite reasonable, the restaurant is also clean, food quickly served, staff friendly. The restaurant itself was a bit cold that day. Maybe there was something with the heater. It would have been a perfect stay if the room was warmer. Unfortunately, they didn’t have bubble tea that day. You could still find one at the harbour if you crave for it.

Too expensive for an okay taste. Udon noodles were underwhelming. The broth and the ingredients were good. Not worth the money. No vegan options avaible.

The shop is rather small and inconspicuous, but very cozy. Almost always full of guests, you often have to wait a few minutes, but it's definitely worth it. A real pearl in Hamburg. Self-service, a large selection of vegetables and other delicacies, followed by a soup of your choice. Just really so delicious! Consistently good quality!

The food is amazing, the service is fast but sometimes the atmosphere can be overwhelming with all the people looking for tables to sit and eat around you when it gets busy. But it is definitely worth it to go and eat there.

Great. At a reasonable price, you can choose from a large selection of fresh ingredients. Super delicious, I will definitely come here again. Chili specialty with level of spiciness 2 was easy to eat for me, spicy, but also good to eat in quantity. My tolerance for spiciness is relatively high for Germany.

Even though I'm Asian, I don't feel good about having my order taken in Chinese as soon as I see the lady... All the other male employees were friendly! The store is small, but it has a variety of ingredients, and the taste and cleanliness are all good. It was a shame that the soup was not a beef bone-based soup, but it was not a drinkable soup, but even with sehr sharf, it wasn't too spicy and it was delicious! It cost about 18 euros, but I was so full that I left it alone ㅜㅜ The glass noodles multiplied infinitely.

The restaurant is located near the Gänsemarkt. It's a Chinese restaurant. Here you can enjoy delicious noodle soups. I call it “pick what you want in you noodlesoup”. Here you get a bowl in which you can collect all the delicacies that you would like to have in your noodle soup. Then you go to the checkout and have the “toppings” weighed. Then you choose a soup base. Personally, I think the mushroom soup is great. You can also choose without soup, then everything is prepared with a creamy peanut sauce. While you wait for your food, you can mix up your own sauce at the sauce bar. There are also garlic, coriander, chilli (fresh), sesame and leek, among other things, if you want to spice up your soup. I think the concept is great because there is guaranteed to be something for everyone because you basically choose your own food and how much you want to eat. It is one of my highlights of restaurants for 2024. You can either go here with friends or alone. In summer you can also sit outside. I can highly recommend this store. And will go here again and again.

It's quite outrageous. I was about to go in at half past two, and saw two employees already standing there, holding a basin and starting to carefully select their lunch. Then I would like to ask why it is open until 2:30? I asked if the business is closed? The short man wearing glasses and a headband used his eyes to scan people from their feet up and said, "Business is closed." Having eyes doesn't mean you can look at people from the bottom up. Don’t you recruit employees without training?

Best Vietnamese soup - fresh and delicious!!!

Love how you can put everything you want in there, you could make it vegan if you want to. The prices are very justified and i love the system of weighing it to pay. i've had the very spicy chilli option, which to me was still pretty bearable, so perfect! The extra garlic is perfect too!! Already went several times and it was always worth it!!

I've eaten here many times in a short space of time and have never been disappointed. The price is absolutely right (I always have a lot of greens, various mushrooms, lots of tofu strips, beef and 2 portions of pasta and it always comes to around €11-13). The ingredients are fresh, the soup has a nice, strong taste and the portions are very large. The employees are also very nice and helpful. 😊 We were very satisfied and will come more often! The only thing I don't like is the music being a bit too loud, but that's my personal preference 😅

I have visited this restaurant many times and my colleague is also a big fan of the food there. That's why I wanted to give her a voucher for her birthday, but unfortunately the restaurant doesn't offer this service. I was quite disappointed by this and wish that a better service could be offered.

The food was very tasty. The self-service shelf is clear and self-explanatory. The employees are very friendly. I would only be careful with the chilli specialty, as the spiciness is a bit spicy for the Western European palate despite the 3-level system, but otherwise the visit was a complete success, I would happily do it again.

The third time I came here, the boys and girls were very nice. The spicy mixture was a bit greasy the first two times, but this time the bone soup was very satisfying! The music is also very classic. The food is delicious! The price-performance ratio is probably the best in Hamburg. The smaller bowls cost €5.72 and €6.12, the large one cost €18.00. The latter contained 3 different noodles and prawns, which justifies the price. I'll definitely come back because the drinks are also very refreshing and authentic.

Great concept, you can put together your soup according to your own wishes and pay according to weight. We were there in the evening on a Sunday and had to wait 15 minutes to get a seat by the window, which was quite tight. Some ingredients were already empty or almost empty. Soup and bubble tea took about 15 minutes to finish. There is a free sauce station where you can create your own dip. The soup came hot and tasted very tasty.

If you have no idea about Asian food (or ingredients), you will definitely be overwhelmed. But if you like it authentic, you'll get your money's worth! You put together the ingredients yourself and choose a broth, although all but bone broth have an additional charge of €1. Not exactly cheap anyway, around €14 will fill you up, but most of them were more than that. What's cool is the wide selection of ingredients and of course the free display with added seasonings such as peanuts, sesame, garlic, etc., which you can help yourself to as you like. The staff is friendly. When it's full, everything takes a while, but within limits. The shop is cute, but you can't really sit comfortably. If it weren't so expensive, I would come very often!
