Lucy Abyssinia in Düsseldorf

We've wanted to come here forever, but it never worked out, and now we're glad we finally made it! We received a very friendly welcome and were accompanied throughout the evening. The food was absolutely outstanding. The injera flatbreads and the pastes, the vegetables and the tender meat and the wonderful spices, the "little coffee ceremony"—wow! A regular at the next table said that after her first visit to Lucy A., she became addicted to this food. We completely understand and are already looking forward to eating here again. We'll definitely bring friends and family and highly recommend the restaurant...

We visited yesterday for the first time and therefore needed some help choosing the dishes. We received excellent advice (a tasting plate with one meat and one vegetarian) and were not disappointed. The lamb was fantastic. 3 quick tips: cutlery on request (not typical), mild dishes can also be a bit hotter 😉, and please don't be put off by the rustic interior. It's definitely worth a visit.

Super delicious! This is our favorite restaurant for Eritrean cuisine in Düsseldorf.

We stumbled upon the restaurant quite by chance; we were there as a couple with our two dogs after a strenuous day at the trade fair. We received a very warm welcome and were able to choose a quiet table with enough space for the dogs. When ordering, the owner gave us some tips, as we were still very inexperienced with Ethiopian food. This was very helpful, especially regarding the spiciness. After ordering drinks, we were also given water for the dogs, which was very thoughtful. The food took a while to arrive, but it was really delicious. Besides the food, we especially enjoyed the atmosphere. Unfortunately, we don't live nearby, otherwise we would certainly be here often.

Very delicious food and an exotic yet intimate atmosphere. It's fun to eat with your hands, although you can also ask for cutlery. The restaurant is vegan-friendly, and the owners are very friendly. We were there on a Friday evening, and a reservation wasn't necessary.

I learned that the restaurant reopened after a long time due to water damage. This gave me the opportunity to be impressed by some good foreign cuisine with my aunt, who is visiting from Rostock. Fortunately, the food was just as good as the last time I ate there. I highly recommend the Zelzel Tibs. Roasted beef strips in an incredibly delicious bed of brown sauce. It's great that you're reopening and offering an Ethiopian experience with your restaurant, from the Ethiopian coffee ceremony to what feels like a museum visit through your interior, to the amazing food. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the food, but I can at least attach a picture of the beautifully presented coffee. It's great that you're back. We ate there in my hometown of Gerresheim and found it completely lacking in love. The food was as if it had been thrown onto the plate. Nothing special in terms of taste (all three different dishes). Given how quickly it was served, I'd assume it was frozen. No alcohol license, so only water, soda... but no beer. Mmm, well-intentioned, but I'd give it 6. For our part, we'll go back to our German/Turkish/Italian restaurants. If I get hit with a shitstorm now, I don't care. I've seen a lot of the world and have eaten well everywhere, but sorry, the food doesn't live up to the reviews. I wish the team at Lucy Abyssinia Restaurant all the best and hope to be pleasantly surprised someday!

A large sign recently went up on the door, advertising fresh cakes, churros, yogurts, etc. every day. I went there specifically on June 1st (Sunday), but there was nothing. The staff said they don't serve those items on weekends. Anyway, you should be able to rely on the announcements, especially when they're advertising it so heavily. I would have gladly saved myself the trip.

Today was my first time having Ethiopian food, and I was thrilled. Incredibly delicious, with wonderful spices, and everything freshly prepared by the chef. The service is friendly and you just feel at home! We'd love to come back and highly recommend it!

We ate very tasty and authentic food at Lucy Abyssinia and shared various dishes as a mixed platter with injera flatbread. The food was sometimes quite spicy, but very tasty and varied. There are also many vegetarian options and special dishes for children. The injera here is quite mild and the food fills you up well. You eat with your hands and use the bread as cutlery. The Ethiopian tea and coffee are also very tasty and recommended. There are toys for children and you can sit comfortably and relaxed. You should also take your time and simply enjoy the special atmosphere.

I am very excited! The food was very tasty. I only recently discovered the restaurant by chance, even though it's been around for thirteen years and I've always gone for Ethiopian food somewhere else. A little advertising wouldn't have hurt. Long story short. I lived in Ethiopia for three years. This restaurant definitely makes the food authentic and tasty. If you haven't been here yet, it's your own fault. Condition was also very nice. Authentic Ethiopian food in Düsseldorf!

Well, Ethiopian food is not to everyone's taste. What we were offered here was authentic Ethiopian cuisine with a variety of interesting dishes that you don't have on your plate every day. The choice wasn't easy, so it's good that there is a "sample plate". You can choose the level of spiciness, so sensitive stomachs are also taken into account here. The food was incredibly tasty. You just have to like the owner, he is super friendly, calm and happy to explain the dishes. The ambience could be a bit more “Ethiopian” for me, but the place still has style. The prices are reasonable, not cheap, but not out of the ordinary either. As a tip: definitely try the Ethiopian coffee ceremony, I personally have never enjoyed such a chocolaty, full-bodied coffee. It's nice that breakfast (hopefully soon also on weekends) and lunch are also offered. If you want to try something different than the usual cuisine... definitely come here. We will definitely be visiting here more often from now on.

You wait a little longer for the food, but everything is fresh and it's really worth it. Today we were at Lucy Abyssinia for the first time and for the first time ever eating Ethiopian food. We are really excited. The boss is really very nice and is happy to explain the different dishes. His tip with the mixed platter was exactly right, so we were able to get a good impression and overview of the dishes. Everything is really delicious. It is eaten with the fingers. Unusual for us Europeans but part of the experience. It's generally comfortable, but it also slows you down. We will definitely come back.

We always go to Lucy Abyssinia with a large group of friends and were there straight away on the day it reopened. If you have a lot of time, like we always do, then this is one of the best restaurants with great authentic Ethiopian dishes! Also highly recommended for vegans :) The owner puts a lot of passion into the restaurant and is very friendly. We'll definitely come back more often!

We were in this restaurant 4 years ago when it was at a different location. At that time we were already enthusiastic about the food and the nice service, so we decided to come to Düsseldorf again for the restaurant. Again we weren't disappointed. The food was undoubtedly freshly prepared and was delicious! The reason the restaurant couldn't open for a year was probably because there was major water damage that needed to be repaired.

Excellent food and friendly staff. We have often traveled to Düsseldorf specifically for this restaurant, even though we live a little further away, so we can definitely recommend it. There is also a large selection of vegan dishes. Everything is also very reasonably priced.

The restaurant is closed and the door is locked with tape. The website no longer exists either. I reported the restaurant as closed, but some moderator seemed to think they knew better.

The ambience is different and unusual. But it is pleasant. The staff is very friendly and jokes. The only downside was the speed. But the food was overwhelming. Each dish has its own special flavors that were completely unknown to me before. The visit was an explosion of all senses for me.

I have often eaten East African (Ethiopian/Eritrean) food and found it particularly tasty here. We've been there twice now and both times I had the Beyaynetu, the mixed vegan tasting plate with injera - highly recommended! My companion also tried other dishes and was also thrilled. There are a few vegan and vegetarian dishes and there are plans to add more. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and, above all, very friendly and personable service. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos (completely untypical for vegans), but the hunger at the sight of the food was simply greater 😅. But you will find enough of it here or will (possibly) make up for it on your next visit ;)

Waren heute das erste Mal dort. Hatten eine Probierplatte für drei Personen die sehr liebevoll angerichtet war und wirklich hervorragend schmeckte. Das Ambiente war toll und auch der Service war klasse und man hat sich viel Zeit für uns genommen. Der abschließende Kaffee mitsamt Weihrauch-Zeremonie machte das Erlebnis komplett! Absolut empfehlenswert wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Ich bin seit 10 Jahren Stammgast und habe schon so ziemlich jeden, den ich kenne und der mich je in Düsseldorf besucht hat, in dieses Restaurant ausgeführt. Bisher waren alles sehr angetan und positiv überrascht. :) Es ist landestypisch eingerichtet, der Inhaber ist tiefenentspannt und das Essen ist für mich einfach Weltklasse. Ich empfehle eine vegetarische oder nicht-vegetarische Probierplatte, damit es nicht zu eintönig wird (es schmeckt zwar alles super lecker, aber manchmal ist etwas Abwechslung ratsam). :) Ich liebe Lucy Abyssinia und hoffe, dass es das Restaurant noch lange Zeit geben wird.

A very nice dining experience. We ordered the mixed plates and enjoyed trying a variety of different dishes. Some spicy, some mild but all very tasty. Service was friendly but a bit slow even though the restaurant was quiet, but we weren’t in a hurry and enjoyed the music and atmosphere.

Tolles Lokal mit einem super lieben humorvollen Gastgeber, der alles erklärt und einem z.B. zeigt wie man traditionell in Äthiopien isst. Und das ist Äthiopien pur. Alle Zutaten kommen von dort und die Rezepte sind original - einfach großartig! Wäre Stuttgart nicht soweit weg-wir waren regelmäßig da!

Das Essen war okay. Aber lange warten und Kellner arbeit allein.
