L'Osteria in Potsdam

You can eat good pizza here – thin, well-baked, huge, and very tasty. The pasta dishes are good too.

Today I made a short visit to Potsdam and got hungry for lunch. Lo and behold, there was a pizzeria, so I went in and ordered. What arrived was unbelievable – a huge pizza, absolutely delicious. If you're ever really hungry, this is the place to go. The staff was quick and friendly. We enjoyed it and will definitely come back.

Last night, a group of eight of us ate here after luckily reserving a table in advance. The food was fantastic. The pizza was one of the best and biggest I've had in a long time. The other pizza eaters agreed. The pasta dishes were also good. The service was impeccable. The only downside to this restaurant is the noise level. It's noisy simply because of its size and the number of guests. On top of that, the loud music makes conversation difficult and quite tiring. It doesn't matter where you sit; we've eaten at L'Osteria Potsdam several times, and it's always noisy. It would be great if a solution could be found for this...

We spontaneously decided to order a panna cotta just before closing time. The atmosphere is friendly, and the service is attentive. The panna cotta was excellent. We'll be back.

The four of us wanted to eat outside in the sunshine and about 14 degrees Celsius (57 degrees Fahrenheit). Tables were set up, and menus were on them. After about 15 minutes, without any attention, one of us went inside. "No service outside. You have to come in to order. We don't bring food out." Okay. We didn't want to eat pizza at a takeaway anyway, so we went inside. Another 15 minutes passed at the table without any attention from the three servers. When we said, "We'd like to order some food," the only response was, "Yes, someone will be right there." After another 10 minutes, a young woman shuffled over to us, typing on her phone, and looked at us questioningly. No friendly gesture or expression. We took our order. The food arrived relatively quickly and without any comment. Now for the positives. The food was great. The pizza was huge, the lasagna tasty, and the salad crisp. We paid using the QR code on the table so as not to charge the woman any more. Conclusion: probably no further visits anytime soon.

One of the best pizzas I've had here in Potsdam. The vegan version is highly recommended, and there's a wide selection of vegetarian options. I also highly recommend the option of choosing two different halves. You can also get a really large pizza, which is almost enough for two meals. It's also a very nice restaurant.

Very nice, but usually quite loud. This time, however, it was quiet, and we were there quite early for dinner, around 5 p.m.

So, in general, it's really nice here. The staff is dedicated and tries to get everything done quickly. This evening, we sat at a small round table with four people, so the huge, delicious pizzas were peeking over everything. Not ideal for eating. The volume of the music and the customers was quite loud, but you have to be able to tolerate it. 🙂 So, all in all, we would come back, but then we'd like to sit at a larger table and perhaps at a different time.

Popped in for a coffee and a chat but we ended up having pizza for lunch, too. Food freshly made to order was delicious. Restaurant is situated by the canal, so views are not too bad.

Unfortunately, there were a few things that somewhat dampened the visit: With an outside temperature of around 10°C, the doors were constantly open, and the ceiling fan was running, creating an unpleasant draft in the front area. Other guests also noticed this. The appetizer took quite a while to arrive, which delayed the entire process. In total, we sat for about two hours from the appetizer to dessert, which was a bit too long for my taste. The service at the end was also disappointing: Our dessert order was overlooked several times, and when we were finally noticed, it was even incorrect at first. Overall, though, a restaurant with great food and a beautiful location – if the service and organization run a little better on our next visit, it will certainly be a real highlight.

Nice and clean atmosphere. The pizzas are huge and delicious, so you should definitely come hungry. 😀. Unfortunately, the artichokes tasted strongly of metal, which probably has something to do with the storage conditions, but all in all, I can recommend the restaurant.

This wasn't our first time here, and we'll definitely be back. The pizzas are huge, with no loss of quality or flavor. Perfect for sharing, too. The service is usually good—but as always, there are good days and bad.

Inviting ambiance, tables for four were too small for the huge pizzas, which were delicious; the place was very crowded (reservations strongly recommended) and the music was too loud, resulting in a very high noise level; one drink was wrong...

A very unpleasant restaurant visit on October 7, 2025. The restaurant benefits from its beautiful location on the Havel River and is generally very busy. Therefore, it's certainly a good idea to make a reservation in advance. But why a "table manager" isn't able to provide three people with a table at 5:45 PM for a period of about an hour where they can eat the three large pizzas in a reasonably decent manner on a "normal" Tuesday, even with a high percentage of reservations for later in the evening, is beyond me, especially since almost 80% of the tables were unoccupied at the time. And the reservations don't all come at the same time. Aside from the truly unfriendly manner of the table manager on October 7, 2025, his willingness to even engage in conversation was definitely not customer-friendly, rather condescending, which contributed to an overall tense atmosphere in the restaurant, which the staff also had to bear the brunt of—all in all, a distinctly unpleasant atmosphere in the restaurant! The absolute inflexibility of the "table allocator," his poor planning skills, and his inappropriate demeanor will contribute to not visiting this restaurant again, let alone recommending it to others.

Food: Great pizzas, various pasta dishes were only lukewarm, hence 3 out of 5. Atmosphere: Table was super large for 10. Unfortunately, the noise level was very high. The women's restroom was absolutely terrible! One of the three was available, but it was completely filthy. The second restroom was dark and locked. The third restroom was open, but without lighting. Service: Ordered at 7 p.m., table wasn't free until around 7:10 p.m. The waiter was great, and the food arrived quickly.

We took a day trip to Potsdam and as we were walking to town from the train, I noticed a pretty café by the river and decided that would be a great place for lunch after some sightseeing. We came back for lunch and were happy to share a very tasty pizza and dine wine. For a picturesque lunch, can't beat the spot on a sunny day.

An unfriendly receptionist refused to allow us to serve an unreserved table for a quick drink break outside in the heat of a long sightseeing tour of Potsdam, which was still available an hour later. Even my request for a reservation for a time 45 minutes later was ignored.

A complete disappointment! Went to the restaurant yesterday – and honestly, that was probably the first and last time. Self-service only outside due to a storm warning – okay, I can understand that. But the way the whole thing was implemented was just sad. We did get proper glasses for our drinks, which was at least a small saving grace. But the food? Just pizza boxes and cheap plastic cutlery! When I asked if they could at least get regular metal cutlery, I got a curt "No, that's not possible." That's completely incomprehensible to me. If you can hand out glasses, you can surely provide cutlery. Honestly: That's not how you treat guests. You don't feel welcome, more like you're at just any roadside snack bar – and at restaurant prices, no less. I'm sorry, but that's how you lose customers and (rightly!) get bad reviews.

Until last week, I gave this place a 4-star rating. I'm afraid I have to retract that. I was here for dinner on September 5th and 6th, 2025. 2 visits, 2 disappointments. On September 5th. I had to learn that "All dishes are freshly prepared 'à la mamma' in our visible kitchen" isn't true. My lasagna was frozen and only partially reheated, still ice cold inside. After a complaint, it was remade, but I couldn't eat until after my companion. Same problem, but for a different reason, the following day: I had to wait over 60 (sixty) minutes for my pizza. Of course, my companion had already finished eating long ago. Drinks (aperitif/beer) were served at the same time. The result: The beer was warm by the time the aperitif was finished. Refills weren't provided. You have to do that yourself at the table using a QR code. The problems were addressed on site, and a dessert was served "to make up for it." Regardless, both evenings were an irreversible annoyance.

Reserved at short notice for a large group, quick and friendly service, huge pizza, everything delicious, highly recommended!

We wanted to sit at one table as a group of 10 people and tried to put a table for 6 and a table for 4 together. This was refused and stopped in a very rude and customer-unfriendly manner. We decided to leave. This is completely unacceptable when it comes to treating guests.

Very tasty pizzas, thin crust, well-topped, but overly large! It's best to mention when ordering that you want them pre-sliced, otherwise it's impossible to handle at the table as the pizza extends far beyond the plate. Most people take part of their pizza home, which is why they hand out a lot of boxes, creating unnecessary waste. The service, however, is excellent, very friendly, and competent! The music in the restaurant itself is too loud, which makes everyone speak even louder... It's almost impossible to sit comfortably and have a conversation here.

UPDATE: After a long time of disappointment, I was there again for a business lunch. Immediately after opening at 11:30 a.m., entry and seating allocation was uncomplicated and the food was absolutely on point! What could be improved, however, is the service after opening. Having to wait 10 minutes to place your order is always difficult to reconcile with break times at lunchtime. I would like more attentive service here. In other restaurants with lunch, when I'm allocated a seat, I'm asked straight away whether I know what I want and this is often the case. Asking whether you should have a drink before ordering food also helps to bridge the waiting time. In order to pay, we had to wait another 10 minutes for a service person.

This Italian restaurant is located by the river. The menu offers a good selection (mainly antipasti, pizza, and pasta). The pizzas are very large (about 45 cm), and one is enough for two (you can also order two halves with different toppings for the price of the more expensive pizza). There is almost nothing authentically Italian about this place, and certainly not the unfriendly waiters who have served us. Have they ever been to Italy? Coffee was average, not particularly good. But expensive. Tables are organized like in the East German days: "Table reserved." The waiter assigns the tables. The memory card was sticky. I couldn't judge whether this is a general and permanent condition. At least this waiter spoke very limited German. Orders could only be taken to a very limited extent due to his limited language skills. The waiter also had no idea about the business. Requests for special offers were either incorrectly answered or not answered at all. This, in turn, had nothing to do with his language skills. Tips, cash accepted - thank you. Only after an explicit request was the change returned by him. Conclusion: Location is good. I can't recommend the rest. My companion and I know exactly where we won't go again. I would like to thank the manager for a very quick and professional response. It gives hope for the place. We'll see what the future holds. Perhaps I'll give it another chance somewhere further away.

Looking for a place where you can eat more than just cake, I ended up here. All the seats had reservation signs, a quarter of them occupied. A huge table, you'd be seated. A hint of the GDR. "Take a free table," they told me at first, but as soon as I sat down, they quickly adjusted: "Only the small tables!" I ordered an appetizer and a meal, which arrived and tasted halfway decent. I ordered the bill, added a friendly tip, and tried to pay with a €100 bill. "Can't change, you can pay by card." A twenty and a fifty were missing. Hmm. I said no. "Then we'll wait." "That might take a while," said the waiter, "most people pay by card." Aha. That was 15 minutes ago, we're curious...
